Finally well rested after my trip to oberhausen for my first concert ever ! I'm so glad dir en grey was my first concert experience I was unsure about a lot of things but it was absolutely amazing
#will NEVER get over having heard oboro live that is burnt into my soul now#I tried to focus on all of them at once but lets be honest i was staring at shinya for a good 70% of the time#i love this man. unbothered. in his lane. focused. flourishing.#and even tho it was just two days i had a lot of fun in oberhausen 😄 i have my eyes set on it now cuz westfield centro has a karaca#and i am all about kitchenware

when this tour started, harry and i were still brand new, this was a new world for me and one thing i was sure about is that i want to be by his side for every minute of it.
now that it’s coming to an end, i can’t help but feel incredible proud of the man that i get to call my fiancé and the one i’m going to spend the rest of my life with.

28/3/2024 Oberhausen, turbinenhalle
GIG REVIEW, DIR EN GREY mode of withering to death.
Since the m&g was at 6 and the gig didn’t start till 8 it was a bit of a long wait.
Luckily they started right on time!
It was just surreal to see them again and so up close, RAHHH. Shinay wore a white dress jacket and black trousers. Kaoru wore a beautiful 3 piece. He later took off the jacket so we could see the waistcoat and billowy shirt underneath better. Die wore his black dress/leather shorts combo with a red and black thing over it for most of the show. Toshiya wore his sparkly black dress with the leather boots, gosh, so pretty!! And Kyo was in his black adidas tracksuit. Tshirt underneath and a necklace over it. He wore 2 rings on his left hand, pinky and middle fingers, I think. He wore a white/blind contact lens in his left eye and his right was normal. Had the bald head with the extensions on it and the make up he did for most of the shows. Ah speaking of make up- Kaoru had two little vampire fangs drawn on him!! It was so cute.
I don’t know the exact setlist. I’m sure someone has already posted it but I think it was the same for the other Withering shows. It was just amazing to hear these song live and the music was good and Kyo was audible and RAAHH it was just so, so fucking good.
They seemed really energetic and especially during Jesus Christ R ���n R Kyo was interacting with the crowd a lot. He took out his earpiece to listen to us sing and also shouted ‘Sing!’ at us at the ominous communication part. AHHH. It was amazing! I think I spotted the tiniest crack of a smile on Kyo’s face.
The others switched places during playing which was very nice! They just all seemed to be in good spirits. I also saw Kaoru singing along with a few songs and so did Die and idk why but it just made me immensely happy.
I’ve worn blind/white eye lenses before and you can’t see much out of them so Kyo only had 1 good eye during the show. He had moments of looking into the crowd but I noticed he spend a lot of time singing with his eyes almost closed for a good while. I can relate, I couldn’t help from closing my eyes from time to time to just feel the music, even though I didn’t want to miss a second of it. He also danced to a few songs, and after having seen them live for quite some years, to me it felt like he generally had a good time and good live. His voice was also SO good, gosh. How that man has grown (figuratively, bwhaha).
They ended with Akoru no oka (my heart) and it was quiet a moment before Kyo just said BYE BYE in the mic and left the stage. Shinya threw his drumsticks and the other 3 stayed a little longer to throw their water bottles and plectrums. Kaoru threw one of his weirdly on the otherside where we were standing and I think it bounces off the barricade or something!? But it made him burst out in laughter and that was so nice to see ;o;
Die nearly killed someone with his bottle throw LOL, and after that we gathered ourselves and it was time to get ready to leave and head back home. I just felt filled with joy, and still do the morning after. So happy I decided to go and also finally chance the meet and greet.

I've realised why I, as an immigrant, never met Lithuanians who hate me for being an immigrant. Like, my mom is an immigrant twice as well, so I've been taught since childhood that no one likes immigrants, and no matter how hard you try, you'll never become "our guy." It is just natural for people to hate other people. Especially foreigners. Especially when they possibly "live on our taxes", "take our free job vacancies" etc. etc. I didn't expect much when I came to Lithuania, I just hoped people would not organize harassment of me for being Ukrainian like they do with Jews in Harvard University nowadays, or stab me to death like they did to those two poor young basketball players in Oberhausen.
Reality turned out to be much better than that. Now I think, it is for several reasons:
Language barrier
The fact that I never highlight my nationality
My genuine love for Lithuania and its people. Yes, even when they are not cheerful, not smiley and behave a bit rude. Let's say, a lady wants to tell me that Ukrainians are all ugly, unfashionable and uneducated and that I will never become a true Lithuanian. Would she really do that if she sees me, who has starry eyes and who constantly rambles about how cool Lithuania is and how much I like Lithuanian culture. A lot of people hate other people, but very few people are able to hate those who genuinely like them. Psychology factor, lol. This lady would probably feel too embarrassed, confused or even ashamed to tell me such things, even if her opinion about Ukrainians does not change, because in this case, it seems that I am more patriotic than her, a true Lithuanian.

DADDY DAAÉ’S GRAVE (when did he actually live?)

The list is not complete, but shows some main tendences. I have previously referred to “the timeline issue”. The years in the libretto didn’t quite line up from the beginning, and every later change, rewritten lyric, and alternate stagings has added to the confusion.
Most replica graves seems to agree that Daddy Daaé died in 1870, alternately in 1872. But his birth year varies quite a bit, from 1817 to 1821 to 1827 to 1841. I don’t know the reason for why the birthyear varies. And to add to that, they never even did any grave in original Stockholm and Copenhagen, and Broadway currently only writes “DAAÉ” without any years listed. What is interesting is that Maria Bjørnson, when asked in a Q&A at the official site many years ago, answered this:
Q: How were the dates on Daaé’s tombstone determined?
A: From the book (I.E. Leroux)
The general consensus is that POTO takes place c. 1881, due to various elements described in Gaston Leroux’s novel. Originally the year given in printed sources spanned from 1861 (original LP) to 1871 (Hamburg and Vienna) to 1881 (George Perry) - which in turn pushed the year of the auction scene from 1905 (original) to 1911 (most versions). For the 2004 movie the main story is set to c. 1870 and the auction to 1919. But then how does that add up with Love Never Dies taking place in 1907? And how does Daddy Daaé’s grave line up with Christine living from 1854-1917, according to the 2004 movie? No wonder current synopsises lot more vague about it, mentioning something about the late 19th century.
As I see it, the original plan was probably to place the story c. 1870 or a bit later. The costume design, especially the bustle dresses for the ladies, appears rather mid-1870s in style. Then there’s the alternate WYWSHA lyric mentioning “Three long years I’ve knelt in silence...”. If we combine that with the grave’s death year 1870 or 1872, it would place the story in 1873 or 1875. That said, the timeline has been pushed in all directions, and the specific WYWSHA verse seems to be the exception rather than the rule. They soon also landed on 1881 for the main year, which is fairly in sync with Leroux. In recent years the dresses has been “bustled up” for a rounder 1880s look as well.
In short, it seems whatever headcanon you may have is a good headcanon! But the above list shows variations in the gravestones, and after all I am here for the nerdy details...
