Been a hot minute.
I missed writing and posting fanfics so I made something super short.

In Swap Au the beginning of season 4 is slightly different from the canon one.
Macaque steals the scroll from the underworld and plans to use it to trap Wukong. He keeps it hidden for a while, waiting for the right moment to use it but Mei finds it and opens it by accident, getting her mentor stuck in it.
The young dragon panics and asks Tang for help, hoping that the century-old monk will have some trick up his sleeve to help them.
Alas, the only way to free Macaque is to go in themselves, but not before having warned their friends about what was happening and asking them to keep an eye on the scroll while they are inside of it.
They struggle for a while to find where the shadow demon ended and in the meantime end up reliving a few points of the Journey West.
During their travel a mysterious inky figure has been chasing them, forcing them to retreat always just before they could get them. It's then that Mei and Tang meet Azrue.
The lion acts like he's a redemption villain, trapped in the scroll for his past mistakes that he now regrets and offers the two his help with keeping the inky creature at bay while they look for their friends.
All of that is obviously a rouse and instead of finding and freeing Macaque, they free Azrue's sworn brothers, Peng and Tusk.
But to everyone's surprise, the two sworn brothers don't want to follow Azrue's plan and are actually and are actually really concerned with the lion's obsession with Sun Wukong.
Azrue storms away, taking the scroll with him and the inky creature he had managed to leash under his control.
Next thing the heroes know is that Heaven is at war and the monkey tyrant is winning

it is an age old subject in general in warriors but man cinderheart was so underutilized in so many aspects or at the very least just not done well in what she could have been. Even ignoring the reincarnated from cinderpelt for a moment, just the bit about her and lion mentoring ivy and dove. people's ideas about having cinder mentor dove instead of ivy, how they couldve had some conflict w lion trying to interfere bc she was the third, how ivy could've felt more drive in feeling neglected, more drive to joining the dark forest. And even if it were in canon, I don't think I even remember if cinderheart had a major reaction to knowing that ivy trained in the df??? I dunno. I'm just thinking thoughts

Not to talk about Voltron in 2024 but the best thing was when they played Space DnD and Shiro was a Paladin, and when the game ended he was just like "I wanna be a Paladin again" because. Same. Shiro I love you I miss you and the showrunners did not deserve you.

A red lion with a blue core
...still thinking how the lion switch could have been so good plotwise, but alas, it sure wasn't

for your consideration:
when lance sits down in blue by himself for the very first time, she has a feeling he'd like to listen to some music, and she tunes into the space-radio station she feels best-fits her lovely paladin's vibe at any given moment. lance has never had to ask; he assumes this is just a feature of all the lions.
when they switch, lance is unaccustomed to the deafening silence inside red--she's all crackling flame and machinery and whooshing and dead, empty space. it's crippling, and early-on he works up the courage to ask her if she could by any chance pull up some tunes. red goes "just a second. have to ask." and her consciousness slips from him for a moment before returning, content. "blue says you sing well. we will have music." and then there's the radio, flipping to songs that tend towards a higher bpm because red is a fast-paced gal.
keith on the other hand, after days of singing "flyin' in the red lion" on repeat, asked red if she had any music. she hesitated, sent him a blunt "no." and went quiet on the subject forever.
bonus: across the galaxies there are planets and satellites with a soft spot for earth music and so occasionally ping-ponging around in the universe there will be transmissions of grainy songs from earth that have made it big in space. blue will still let red know when she picks up an earth station so that she can play it for lance and he can feel a little closer to home.
word of keith's tone-deafness has reached black, so "flyin in the black lion" it is. legend has it to this day he still doesn't know about lion radio.

What do you think about the lion swap in VLD?
I think while it had some execution problems (especially with Lance), generally as a whole I liked it. I think this fandom gets way too wrapped up in the first two seasons and got really upset for no reason when things changed, but there's no reason to fundamentally hate the lion swaps.

Oh, how about the trio? Tiger, Lion and Cat! Ivan, Lila and Alix (for some reason I think that they would be best friends)? Feline club, please 🙏🙏
Interesting combo, drew them separately because I didn't wanna think of a pose with three people wanted to show them fully. I struggled with Ivan the most (again lol) but Alix looks SO good.
