I thought a lot about how to start this and none of them were good so, here's this;
Frowny's Thesis on Aiden Clark having Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) based on the DSM-5 criteria, living with people with BPD (hi dad!), being...me!, and general vibes.
What is BPD?
Borderline Personality Disorder is defined by a prolonged disturbance of function marked by depth and variability of mood, pattern of unstable personal relationships, unstable self-image, marked impulsivity, and other symptoms. They can manifest in very different ways (the way it appears between my dad and my grandma for example is not the same), but generally includes this.
1. Fear of Abandonment
Nobody wants to be left behind, that's a given, but for people with BPD this fear can spiral into a paranoid phobia that impacts all their personal relationships. Because BPD is influenced by environmental factors, this often stems from children being abandoned in their youth (ex. My father was the child of a teen pregnancy and his parents couldn't care for him for the first few years of his life, letting him be raised by his grandparents. I also grew up alternatively without my mom and withouty my dad, and once for a time with neither of them)
It's been shown to us before that Aiden's parents are often absent from the house, for even months at a time. He seems very used to this and it's likely he grew up very isolated or passed around between different relatives. And I do think this shows in his attachment style; he is a very clingy and sort of "decides" to hyperfixate on a certain person (Ash *coughs*) in the hopes that they'll become friends, and he does this very quickly. Already so scared of losing Ash on that roof even tho he's only known her for like 3 months at this point. He really can't bear the thought of her not being with him.
On the subject of Ash he's idolized her sooooo bad she's so screwed. Pls the Angelic lighting filter he puts on her?? SHE CANT SAVE YOU AIDEN. YOU HAVE TO DO IT YOURSELF. (But i get it its hard) Ties back into how people with BPD see the world in strict black and white, he can't see Ash's flaws and that's how he defends her so much, she's literally like a savior to him and here comes the disciple complex.
He's been forced to move so many times, he's probably made friends who just couldn't keep up the effort of maintaining a long distance friendship and ghosted him, or even him doing the opposite, pushing people away just to avoid the sting of abandonment again. They can't hurt you if you hurt them first.
2. Unstable self-image.
He bleaches his hair end of story /j
No but really, tell me Aiden doesn't put up a persona- he's gone through the phases from quiet gifted kid to an impulsive extroverted mischievous mess. Don't you just look at him and feel the self-hatred coming off in waves?? Dyeing his hair, getting contacts, the ever present grin that must be painful at this point, it's like he can't...look at himself. Like he doesn't want to look at himself.
He can't even face his own problems; he literally paints a clown face on himself after dying cuz he doesn't want to process his feelings about it lol 🫠
Like genuinely, how exactly does Aiden want to be perceived? What is the point of this facade? For himself? For other people? I think he's just trying to shut away his past and start fresh without having to confront it, but...when the root is rotten, nothing healthy can grow, so he needs to get to the source of his issues.
3. Anger regulation problems
Unpopular opinion probably but he seems so angry to me. It's definitely WAY more present in the early chapters like when he goes tf off on Tyler, he was barely controlling himself there asdfghjkl- but I think it manifests more in him attacking the phantoms, it's obviously an adrenaline thing for him but I think he's taking out a lot of anger at the same time too. Even if some of this anger is coming from a righteous place; the desire to protect his loved ones (which ties into the abandonment too, you are still abandoned even when it wasn't their choice), because peope with BPD see the world as smth very...dangerous, I guess is the word? Even if maybe that doesn't apply to themselves

He's also not above taking his anger out on humans either considering he was about to take Alex's eyes out with that paintbrush and was gonna choke the life outta them-

4. Consistent feelings of sadness/worthlessness.
5. Self-injury, suicidal behaviour, suicidal ideation.
Aiden do be a sadboi even with all the smiley faces on his clothes. I think this is probably smth that was way worse when he was younger that led to that depression where he was locked in his room eating junk food and disassociating, and while he's probably coping with it differently it's still smth he struggles with. I mean shiiiiiit, because of his impulsiveness he does kinda cause problems but God he feels SOOOO goddamn bad about it lahdlsj, he was so guilty about the Ash situation, he probably beat himself up so much about that-
Emotions are very extreme, it's 'similar' to bipolar disorder with manic and depressive episodes, except they happen at a much quicker scale (in the same day for ex.) which seems to me how Aiden only lets himself experience positive emotions even tho he's in a deeply stressful situation (even tho there's good parts too like his friends) because he just can't handle having to fully experience those negative emotions.
Check, check, check! Aiden has zero self preservation instincts, he throws himself off walls, gets up close and personal with phantoms that could easily kill him, actually didn't give a fuck about dying?? Actually ENJOYED IT? But didn't wanna do it again because his Favourite person was worried about him and the absolute high of that feeling completely beat out anything else?? Okay man, we get it, you're living for somebody else at this point-
People with BPD suffer from chronic feelings of emptiness and pain is the best kind of distraction for Aiden (cue: him slamming his forehead on the table because he's bored)
6. Impulsive behaviors (aka a bunch of shit which can be summed up as addictions)
Well, for starters, he's an absolute adrenaline junkie, because he feels so constantly empty Aiden wants something to make him feel alive. And adrenaline is the flawless, biological, factual answer to this. Ergo all his octane hobbies and impulsive behaviors. Ties back into his obsessiveness, which, don't get me wrong this doesn't make him a bad guy or anything, we all get a little obsessed with things sometimes, that's just things humans do- but when you have bpd, it's very...difficult to just STAY happy, like an addiction, when the high wears off, they're empty again.
Maybe a bit of a stretch, but considering all the Ramen packets in his room when he was younger I wouldn't be surprised if he had some sort of ED or binge eats (Same bestie.)
Also for sure a reckless driver I'm 99% sure he crashed all those go-karts he drived before.

I don't really know where I'm going with this. It's hard to live with somebody who has BPD, it's hard to live with it yourself, it's hard to see other people go through it even when it's hurting yourself. I hate pushing people away, but you get so caught up in your own thoughts, and it just...happens...and when it's done...you really regret it, but it's too late...and you just wonder if things are better like this, being alone and not hurting anybody anymore, cuz they're certainly happy on their own
I don't think anybody who has bpd is automatically a bad person, they just have things harder than normal. People with BPD....they can be amazing artists, or good with animals, or really very kind. They have very big hearts, thats why they feel so deeply. And I think Aiden is a good person, because he has so much love to give, but has never been given an outlet to express that properly, but you can see him making great strides in learning how, with the help of his friends 🧡

Please tell me about your Amy Au!!
my au amy is not TOO far off from canon, since im. terrible at plotting and shit lol. no idea what actually makes this a distinct au.
the big distinction between my au amy and canon is actually more in backstory: amy is a hybrid hedgehog-echidna.
hedgehogs and echidnas both had connection to chaos, and to the associated power, the emeralds, etc. when the echidnas started dying off, the hedgehogs did too, and crossbreeding was the most viable option for preserving both species. thus, hybrid hedgehog-echidna. she probably wasn't the only hybrid during the species' decline, but she's the only one to live in the current age.
her biological mother is also knuckles's mother, and they're half siblings because i love the idea of them being related. amy was born on angel island, but moved to a different home on south island as a baby, where she was taken in by a couple from whom she got the surname rose, after a few years of living in an orphanage. no one knew what she was, and she ended up sort of alienated as a result. she had kind of a sad childhood, but she grew around it. she met sonic when she was 8, and his friends shortly thereafter.
she has a particularly good friendship with knuckles, since they both have an inexplicable sort of draw to each other, a sense that they're supposed to be together. knuckles sees amy as a little sister, though he's much more reclusive than, say, sonic, so it's hard to tell he feels that way. when amy joined their cause to fight, it was actually knuckles who helped her harness her strength and train.
she's very powerful particularly due to the inherited strength from the echidnas and the tie to chaos energy from the hedgehogs. (this was inspired by another anon asdfghjkl) along with her sheer strength and her hammer, she's also very intuitive, very good in hand to hand combat despite disliking it, and her strength is relatively balanced through her body meaning she has a pretty fast run too. her skillset is somewhere between pure physical strength and something more mystical. like in sonic 06 she can turn invisible (im no longer questioning why she can do that), she can see things others can't, and she even uses the tarot cards she had as a kid to utilize this ability in a kinda "predicting the future" way. she provides an extra eye. in sonic origins, one of the cutscenes has sonic touch a chaos emerald and get a sort of "vision" of the chaos emeralds being transported to.. west side island iirc? that's what it's like for amy to see things others can't. it's also factored in her intuition, for example, it's her in particular who has this sort of instinct that she has some connection to knuckles they don't really know about which she's had since they met. it's sort of like clairvoyance, and/or a state of heightened intuition, like sally face if you're familiar. except it's more like the vision in sonic origins than sally face because. sally face is a very cryptic game
point is, that idea of clairvoyance sort of factors into the whole invisibility thing, since i have no idea how the invisibility actually works.
im currently playing with the idea of an au from my main au where amy was never moved from angel island as a baby and grew up with knuckles there. i have no idea how this would impact the story, but i think little knuckles and amy would be adorable. i also think it would be an interesting turn for amy to maybe not know she's part hedgehog, and grow up thinking she is or maybe "should be" an echidna like she does in my main au with being a hedgehog as a kid?
amy is highly passionate about just about anything she can be passionate about. she loves her friends, everything she does, and helping those who need her especially. she dresses in a super cutesy style and acts very lovey-dovey. she feels her emotions to an extreme and unlike sonic, knuckles, or shadow, rarely holds herself back from expressing them however she needs to. if i had to pick a theme song for her, i would choose everything at once by lenka.

Okay, so I downloaded the Webtoon app on Sunday, and immediately started reading some that I'd seen around on youtube. Here are some of my thoughts, if you'd be so kind as to read them!
UnOrdinary. This is the comic I started with! And.... it's hella good. Character design, world building, the character development(especially from Isen and Blyke, mwah, good job guys!), the plot! THE POWERS. THE FRIENDSHIPS. THE MYSTERY. ASFGHJKL PLEASE GO READ THIS IT'S SO FUCKING GOOD, I BLEW THROUGH IT IN THREE DAYS DKHASKJNJDSNJFN. John and Sera's friendship is exactly what I want from a boy/girl friendship. While I'd love to see if they go elsewhere in their relationship, I would be perfectly happy if they stayed friends!
Down to Earth is just full of fluff and extra-terrestrial and terrestrial shenanigans and I'm in love. The art is super cute, and I'm dying to know more about Zaida's past gdsvg
Freaking Romance. God. This was a beautiful experience. The art, the story, the plot twists. I really appreciated that no one forced anyone else's hand unless it was a very bad situation, and all were content with their place's in the long run. I would love to see a spinoff series with Aushi! A little adulty tho, so please at least be 16 if you wanna read this.
Not Even Bones. Holy shit. Holy shit holy freaking shit. This was a rollercoaster. AND IT'S ON HIATUS STILL. It's been on hiatus for nearly six months, which is very understandable! My favorite part of this webtoon is the dynamic between Nita and Kovit. Peak dynamic, 10/10 want irl, minus the murdering people. but they've got each other's backs and frhdbsfihigadsfjk I want to give them both the world.
True Beauty. Decided to try a true blue romance story after literal years. I.... I did not expect to be screaming. No joke. This webtoon has made me scream about 4 times today alone, and this is day two of reading it. Suho is my fave because he very much reminds me of my husbando, and I would also like to give him the world. Jugyeong asks the internet for bad advice, but who hasn't? Seojun is a very conflicted hot mess. The premise of the webtoon itself is pretty simple, a plain("ugly") girl got tired of being ignored and put on makeup and now she's pretty and has boys after her pretty frequently. Well, mostly just Suho and Seojun. There are twists, and I'm not quite done with it yet, but overall, I'm finding it surprisingly enjoyable, even if I find some things aggravating. I'm also enjoying the look into another culture!

Ok so I love love the "I was just captured by the bad guys and very harshly uh demanded to sell you out, but I didnt, bc even though I might posture like you’re the scourge of the earth and would gladly see you dead, I in fact, do not want you dead and will therefore not be selling you out and will handle mild -emphasis on mild please do not hurt either of my babies too much- torture instead and oops! look at that, you just overheard this exact exchange where I stand my ground and refuse to betray you, and now you’ve gone feral over your loyalty kink and are spouting promises of never letting go of me, which honestly I cannot bring myself to be mad at."
I love love love the forced bedsharing trope which then leads to accidental cuddling, where one party [caroline] is just very very annoyed that their body sought the warmth of a cockroach fucknugget being [klaus] and the fucknugget party is just very very smug about being the other party's personal space heater, and nuzzles them and cuddles tighter and asdfghjkl I'm getting tingly just thinking about it, and like says w a husky sleepy voice “don't move” and cuddles closer. jfc please I’m a basic bitch with very basic wants.
I absolutely LOVE the "we work on opposite enemy sides, but now we have to band together to defeat one common enemy and honestly I am NOT glad that I constantly wanna throw you against a wall, and not all reasons for said wall-throwing are strictly to inflict violence on you."

And also if I had to give you a clear cut trope to follow, I absolutely LOVE the enemies-to tentative allies-to lovers trope, in which one party is just working really really hard to get to the lovers part, and the other is working really really hard not to get to the lovers part, but caves later on, bc really the fucker grows on you. [Featuring Klaus as the "high key besotted already pursuing Caroline"-person, and Caroline is the "I am very very annoyed w this wooing, but I am more annoyed this wooing is working"-person. And also, I like my Klaus E V I L, But really really really *soft* for Caroline.]
Also if by tropes you meant settings, Like AU's, literally anything works, I have a personal bias for Crime AU's when it comes to enemies to lovers, and Canon is the ultimate enemies to lovers AU, but honestly you can use which ever one you want, I am not entirely sure myself if I have a specific preference here, AH, Fantasy, Supernatural, Scifi, it's all good.
[I however am not extremely fond of Historical Settings]
Again you are not required to follow any of these tropes at all if you don't wish to, I just require you to have a lot of fun writing and love the beauty you write yourself first!

Ok I LOVE me some Kennett [kol + bonnie] but I also LOVEEE kolenzo [Kol and Enzo], I also am extremely just *heart eyes* at Bonenzo [Bonnie + enzo], but I absolutely DIE for Kennettzo [which is OT3 of Kol Bonnie and Enzo]
Kalijah is also a-ok w me, and I feel like I dont have any other side pairings I'd like die to see I guess. If you choose not to go with these side pairings its perfectly alright.

Ok this I can answer without rambling like an idiot, I love love love love :
Bonnie + Caroline [like i love this so much it physically hurts me, they both deserve so so so much better]
Kol + Caroline [I will literally touch a frog, and I have a phobia of frogs, to have one full conversation w these two idiots]

And I think that's about it? mostly I just hate elena stefan damon and hayley and I am not fond of them w anyone, I hate all canon Rebekah relationships, and I dont like seeing Bonnie with anyone other than enzo or kol.
Tropes:
I am totally not fond of the Kill Liz for plot reasons trope, like seriously killing Caroline's mom is not ok w me, but I am totes fine if she's like already dead as part of Caroline's backstory, just don't show me Liz dying in the story as a part of the plot.
Any form of sire-bond-y or like sire-bond adjacent or like any form of deal/bargain/agreement that gives Klaus even a tiniest bit of power over Caroline's free will and choices, is just not for me, like at all, no matter how well it's done, I can't stand it.
not fond of any form of prisoner/hostage tropes, like klaus kidnapping caroline or caroline kidnapping klaus and holding each other hostage and stuff like that.
Death as a plot point doesnt work for me? and really I'd prefer if there were no major character deaths at all.
Friends to lovers trope is not for me, childhood friends to lovers trope is definitely not for me.
I don't like any sort of redemption arc really, anything that starts with Klaus as a “bad” dude and ends with him being a relatively “good” dude is not for me.
Any form of infidelity, like ofc especially in between Klaus and Caroline is just [shudder] hard pass, but like I also hate it when Caroline or Klaus cheat on anybody at all.
Also all the tropes and like themes I'm not comfy w that I mentioned in my original Gift Request still stand.

I hate a woobified Klaus so much, like so much, I hate all TO!Klaus characterizations but this one is the worst, absolutely not here for it, I am not here to feel sorry for this mf I want to feel really deliriously GIDDY at how evil he is and how whipped he is for Caroline, but like concentrating on Klaus's manpain is not something I really wanna read.
Caroline excusing Klaus's bullshit, or like being a push over-y “it's ok, I understand why you did it” person is not for me, bc she never was one to begin w, she never did rationalize or justify Klaus's behaviour, she always held him accountable and told him what a difficult son of a bitch he is every chance she got.
I don't like arcs where Caroline is Klaus's redemption? like Caroline bringing Klaus into the "light" or whatever I am not here for it, like at all, I like Klaus staying evil while being endlessly in love with Caroline, and Caroline being able to be w a man she knows is a selfish evil ruthless grade A asshole, but will literally also choke himself to death for Caroline, cuz the man is whipped as fuck.
I also absolutely am not a fan of arcs where like Caroline remains "pure" or whatever, like that's just not for me, I am totally fine, actually MORE than fine for ruthless Caroline who is willing to do deplorable shit to get to her goal and protect her people, like Caroline being extremely almost evilly pragmatic just gives me a boner, and pretty sure gives Klaus one too. Klaus "protecting" Caroline's so called innocence is uh off putting for me personally. And her remaining this pure white light princess of good and Klaus being attracted to the *good* in her is um, nope.

This has set him back further than when he first started. How’s he supposed to live in the wreckage of his boat, anyway? (I mean he was already sleeping in the water so there’s that...)
Anyway, I loved this episode, it was super intense, so much more than I was expecting, and we got to see more of Magica’s personality and her dynamic with Lena. I think this Magica is a more serious and intense version of the character (which we already figured, from Terra-firmians when she basically said leave Beakley for dead), while still holding her eccentric personality- a hilarious character who actually feels like a threat. I like that. She’s a good villain and I love her, but a good person she is not.
Disappointed in the lack of Donald, but at least he was here at all. *side-eyes other episodes* So overall 9/10. That missing point is Donald.

i'm 1/3 through the new chapter and holy hell. i'm reading slowly because i keep gleefully going over lines that i love. you're so good at writing soft moments between characters that make readers so happy! i'm pausing right now cause i can feel this bridge being built and i feel like it's going to lead to something bad for cal and pea. i definitely see it being fuelled by this reggie friendship and her insecurities about her relationship. scared to finish it but dying over how good the fic is!
