Although the jar in today’s image cracked as it was heated in the firing it is still held together by fire and ash. There is a fierceness to the fragility. The cracks in it speak a sharp language but are vocalizing with a soft voice. I think part of my job is to emphasize that this is compelling. When I put the foot-long Philodendron Monstera leaves, reminiscent of Matisse-esque cutouts, into the cracked vase it takes on even more focus and significance.
I remember as an undergrad my teacher at the time was trying to get me to be a better craftsperson. They felt my trimming was too messy,   especially when I often left bits of clay inside the foot. One day someone brought several Sung dynasty Chinese bowls into school. We sat in an office admiring the feeling and touch of the bowls. I began to pick at a bit of trimmed clay that was stuck inside the foot of the antique bowl. I was admonished for doing so because that clay spoke of those Chinese potters. Later I wondered if I left a bit of clay inside the foot of a bowl why didn’t that speak of my hand and my moment in time.

Submissives' Autonomy in Relationship Endings
Lenard Cohen once sang, "Hey, that's no way to say goodbye," lamenting a failed relationship, and Paul Simon suggested, "Hop on the bus, Gus." Relationships, whether exciting or otherwise, are not all destined to be everlasting. While there are valuable lessons and personal growth in every relationship, life inevitably involves experiences of being both the one ending a relationship and the one being ended. With this in mind, let's explore a peculiar theory circulating in the lifestyle.
Some individuals in the D/S community propagate the notion that only the dominant holds the power to end a relationship. This belief is often expressed through a submissive 'asking to be released,' with the dominant having the authority to decline. Unfortunately, some dominants subscribe to the idea that a submissive possesses no voice, no vote, no rationale, and regrettably, no means to conclude or exit a D/S partnership.
Let's entertain the idea that this theory holds. In such a scenario, a dominant's life would be remarkably uncomplicated once a submissive offers their submission. There would be no need to invest in the relationship, no concerns about fostering closeness each day, and forget about earning their submission daily. Understanding what makes the submissive happy becomes irrelevant. No heart-to-heart talks are required, and on a bad day, ordering the submissive around suffices, back to the kitchen to make nachos and fetch beer because the game is starting. A dominant could comfortably relax on the couch in sexy sweatpants, issuing orders without a care in the world because the submissive cannot leave. The ability to dismiss a submissive at will would be a dominant's ultimate power move. And if one grows weary of Suzie Submissive's salmon, just send them packing; Nathan Newbie and their lifetime supply of Nutella are ready to step in.
As I write this, a thought occurs, this fictional dominant would probably know and use my favorite “Southern” word, sensuous, as in "since-u-was making nachos, gemme a beer." No, it is not a statement about dominants; it is just a whimsical observation inspired by the example.
Another consideration arises: what happens when a switch and a submissive or two switches are in a relationship? Some days they can break up, and other days they cannot. That would undoubtedly lead to a confusing breakup scenario.
In reality, relationships demand effort, extensively so, from both dominants and submissives. Finding that perfect, lifelong connection involves good old-fashioned trial and error. A dominant can recognize that a relationship is not the right fit and gracefully exit, just as a submissive can realize 'it is not you, it is me' while making a graceful exit. A submissive holds the right to end a relationship at any time and for any reason, just as a dominant does. One's role in the lifestyle does not dictate who holds the authority to initiate a breakup, the reasons behind it, or when it may occur. If you find yourself in a submissive role, resist being sold this notion; understand that if you are unhappy in a relationship, you have the right to free yourself, communicate your feelings, and terminate the relationship.

tagged by @steampunkforever and @psygull to share some albums i've been listening to lately. im sorry this took SO long omg
The Idiot by Iggy Pop: the secret 4th album in the Berlin trilogy thanks to Bowie’s very hands on and fairly overbearing approach to producing :P.  really cool atmospheric synths in this one, and what Iggy does contribute is a sense of inebriated desperation, slurring his words over the thumping mechanical backing tracks. it’s a mix of style and grit that works, Nightclubbing and Dum Dum Boys being practically enjoyable cultivations of bad vibes
Station to Station by David Bowie: this album is just a ton of fun. I know it has a reputation as the dark Bowie album, but that’s largely undeserved, especially next to albums like Lodger and Blackstar.  I’ve listened to the title track a thousand times and I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of the way it builds, adding layers of sound for three minutes before Bowie’s vocals cut it to introduce the thin white duke, singing about returning to throw darts in lovers eyes in a tall room overlooking the sea. it’s much more camp than genuinely sinister, especially once the duke starts singing about being in love.  most of the album is blue eyed soul, which I don’t usually care that much for, but it’s done well enough that it wins be over. TVC15, an upbeat number about a magical television that ate the narrators girlfriend, is also particularly memorable.
New Skin for the Old Ceremony by Lenard Cohen: I’m not usually into music that's as spiritual as his stuff, but I’ve been getting into Lenard Cohen anyway because 1.my boyfriend adores him and 2. he’s just that good. It’ll probably be a while till I’ve got devolved thoughts on the lyrics in this album, but I definitely enjoy them a lot already
The United States of America self-titled: I’ve got such a soft spot the analogue sound of early electronica and this mixes that with influences from the era’s in-vogue psychedelic rock. delightfully experimental, the results aren’t always fantastic, but they are very often interesting. Also, sometimes they are fantastic! The Garden of Earthly Delights is actually probably one of my favorite songs of all time
From The Fires by Greta Van Fleet: this one sounds like it should be quintessential dad rock but was released in 2017.. it’s a bit more simple than what I’m used to (I know that sounds pretentious I’m sorry) which takes some getting used to, but it’s soaring electric guitar and falsetto vocals make it great background noise for some of the physically strenuous work I’ve had to do this week
Dreaming With Alice by Mark Fry: another album that feels temporally displaced! this one only by a few years rather than decades, with it’s gentle descriptions of butterflies & flowers & happiness and soft, also pop-ish, psych folk instrumentals it seems to speak to a time and place when hippiedom was on the rise and hope was in the air. in actuality it was largely created in 70s Italy, against the backdrop of the years of lead. the album has gained a cult following, but honestly I think it deserves to be widely listened to, it’s absolutely beautiful. The title is a reference to Alice in Wonderland, and I think there’s a tendency nowadays to dismiss psychedelic takes on Alice In Wonderland as edgy garbage but that really couldn’t be further than accurate here
White Light/White Heat by The Velvet Underground: I’m finally listening to tvu beyond their first album.. it only took me about a year to get around to doing so. I really enjoy this album’s rough edges, which come off as a deliberate artistic choice and I was surprised to find out was actually accidental.  John Cale and Lou Reed swapping vocals back and forth, often mid sentence, over ghastly surgical noises in Lady Godiva’s Operation is a personal highlight
Acquiring the Taste by Gentle Giant: I always feel like I enjoy gentle giant in theory more than in execution. maybe because that while their music is good, it can be a bit boring to listen to if you aren’t devoting most of your attention to it. it’s certainly an ambitious album with a lot going on, and knows it, inside the vinyl the band printed that “It is our goal to expand the frontiers of contemporary popular music at the risk of being very unpopular. We have recorded each composition with the one thought – that it should be unique, adventurous and fascinating.  It has taken every shred of our combined musical and technical knowledge to achieve this.” but do they achieve their lofty goals? maybe. not much. but enough that it’s worth checking out, if exactly not writing home about
The Use Of Ashes by Pearls Before Swine: a not very folky acid folk album, and probably my favorite of the group’s. Very melancholy, very pretty, very very good. there’s a song here that Elton John stole! definitely deserves more attention here but I’m really running out of steam so I’m just going to skip to tagging people.

Rules: Put 5 songs that just make you feel out of this world with a short explanation. It could be your comfort songs, your favorite ones, anything that makes you feel things! And then tag your friends!
I saw @hughstheforcelou do this and it looked like fun
1.
I love this song. Jensen's voice is so soothing in it. It's calmed me down and prevented me from having a panic attack before, plus the lyrics are amazing and I definitely relate to being the willow " her faith and love is better on sunny days"
2.
This is my all time favorite song (and the Lenard Cohen version). I remember a kid from my highschool singing this in the talent show and it's stuck with me and I've loved it sense.
3.
I actually met Abbi when she was part of the worship band at one of the collegiate ministry retreats ( I was in a private Christian school) and have followed her career. This is like my anthem.
4.
Cause I got to have Disney on here! This song is inspirational and always puts me in a good mood.
5.
This song is pretty much a whole movie in one song. Everytime I listen to it the movie plays in my head...plus who wasn't wanted to get revenge on someone who hurt them or a friend when no one else will do anything about their actions.

A Submissive Does Not Need Permission To End A Relationship
Lenard Cohen famously crooned “Hey, that’s no way to say goodbye” as he lamented a failed relationship and Paul Simon suggested  “Hop on the bus, Gus” and while there is no good way to go about ending, exciting, or maybe you prefer to say excusing yourself, relationships are not all meant to be forever. Yes, there are lessons to learn and personal growth from every relationship but at some point in life, we are all going to be dumped and be the dumpee and with that in mind, I want to talk about one of the cockamamie theories some people in the lifestyle have. This bit of balderdash is only the dominant can end a relationship often expressed by a submissive ‘asking to be released’ to which the d-type declines and some dominants believe that a submissive has no voice, no vote, no reason, and sadly no way to conclude or exit a D/S partnership.
Let us suppose for a minute that this farcical malarkey was twue, how easy would a dominant’s life be once a submissive offered their submission. No need to invest in the relationship, who cares about working on growing closer each day, completely forget about having to earn their submission daily, it does not matter what makes your submissive smile/happy, never a need to have a hard heart to heart talk and when your submissive has a bad day, why give a hoot, just order them back into the kitchen to make your nachos and fetch beer because the game is about to start! Just put on your sexy sweatpants, plop that dominant ass on the couch and order your submissive to and fro with never a worry in the world because they cannot leave. Just sit back and roar because you are a dom. Here is the best part, if or when you get tired of Suzie Submissive’s salmon, just send her packing because you have Natasha Newbie and her lifetime supply of Nutella ready to take her place.
A shiny thing moment as I write this, I think this fictional dumbinant would probably know and use my favorite redneck word, The word is sensuous, as in “since-u-was making nachos, gemme a beer”. No, Tumblr troll, I am not saying dumbinants are rednecks but the example I wrote made me think of this “hillbilly” word.
I have another shiny thing moment if this ‘rule’ was indeed gospel, what happens when a switch and a submissive or two switches are in a relationship? Some days they can break up and other days they could not? I bet that would be one confusing breakup.
It is just simple, relationships take work (a lot of work) from both d and s-types. There is no way to find that perfect and lifelong relationship without some good old fashioned trial and error. A dominant can come to realize that a relationship is not the right fit and ‘excuse themselves’ just as easily as a submissive can realize ‘it’s not you, it’s me’ while exiting stage right. A submissive does have the right to end a relationship at any time and for any reason, just as a dominant can. A person’s role in the lifestyle does not dictate who can break up with whom, the reason, or when it can happen. If a person is submissive, please do not allow yourself to be sold this malarkey and know that if you are unhappy in a relationship for any reason, s-types do have the right to drop off that key set yourself free, express it is not them but you, or however you wish to communicate things because an s-type has every right to terminate a relationship.
As with all of my writings, please see this disclaimer.

I have a theoretical question for you that one of my friends on FB posted, from what little I understand of things being make kosher I would think yes. But I also only know a little bit so was curious if you had different thoughts on it. If I use a replicator to make shrimp alfredo (the most non kosher dish I can think of off the top of my head), and then zombie Lenard Cohen wants to use it to make matzo ball soup, does the replicator need to be made kosher before he does it?
Replicated meats are kosher by default, IMO, in the same way that vegan meat substitutes can't be not kosher. They're not actually meat from a non-kosher animal; no animal meeting the definition of "not kosher" died for that food.
So your alfredo is kosher, too. Also, seafood and cheese are fine together.
