#Legally Registered UK License

Can I ask why no shipping to the UK and Germany?
Yes; let me get you the run-down
tldr; I am one person and the sheer process of making sure I am compliant with those international laws + continuing to report my compliance is simply too much in a cost/benefit analysis
when I looked into the UK's VAT system, I got to account creation and could go no further, because it required a UK address; I may need to talk to a US-based agent who will be able to patch me through. I tried emailing the UK VAT help email but received the reply of I needed a UK address. This would also mean more accounts on more things + more to remember to report, for a small portion of what would make up my shop income.
VerpackG in Germany is a great effort for sustainable packaging; however, I would need to sign my business into the LUCID Packaging Register, and obtain a Packaging License which I would need to buy. I would need to calculate my annual packaging quantities (which sounds like inventory but for packaging material), and also license my packaging through a recycling system authorized by Germany.
I'm very sorry that a lot of small businesses are now unable to mail to those countries (legally); the complexity of the system is out of our hands.
+ I will not make an account on Etsy (who remits VAT for you) due to their predatory profit margins
Going through the inventory & tax process in the US is quite enough already; if they want me to register for VAT the ghost of the queen can come across the ocean and do it herself.

A Breakdown Of Jess's Management Company
The company that Jess brags about owning (when it comes to talent management) is based out of the UK. There is no business listed under Jess Moloney's name if you look it up in California. Nothing is called Jess Moloney Management or any business run by someone with that name.
In the state of California to be a talent manager or agent you do need to be registered with the state and you need to get a license.
->Source<-
This already raises a lot of questions. How is her business which is only based in the UK valid for her to work with American clients? I'm not saying it's impossible but I am saying that for her to be legally operating as a talent manager as she claims she'd also need a license in the state she practices and I'm sure she doesn't just automatically get one because she owns a business in the UK.
Since Jess does not currently own Jess Moloney Management in the United States it's questionable how she's also operating a business managing talent in the United States and doing it legally.
If you try to look her or her company up in California to see if she has a license you will get no results there either:
->Look Yourself<-
From this we can conclude one of several things:
She's operating illegally
She's using a different name to operate
She's lying about having clients
Knowing this information alone, it seems impossible that Jess has clients that she's actively managing and if she is she's not doing it legally. I suppose it's possible that somehow she found a loophole and signed these people under whatever license she has in the UK. This would be a way to get around having a license to operate in California but I'm also going to guess it's not legal to do that since the laws of an entirely different country wouldn't apply there, and as I said, this is a state by state thing so that makes it even less likely.
How can she be managing any United States based talent under the guidelines of a UK business? Unless she's only handling clients from the UK (which she definitely isn't if she is managing people like Renell and Quil) then she's not doing it on the up and up. It makes me question how she ever did it in the first place. Another place she operates out of is New York but if you look it up, you will find you also need a license to operate as a talent manager there.
->Source<-
Tumblr media
If you look her company up in New York it doesn't come up either. Which means she didn't get a license to work there either.
I'm not a lawyer nor do I know all of the details of this but I can say one would think that she can't just operate as a talent manager free and easy because she owns a talent agency in another country. As I said, these types of businesses are rife with legal contracts where money is exchanged.
All of this seemingly makes it impossible for Jess to legitimately be running the business she claims to be running in a way that is on the books. It's possible that it's all under the table and she has connections somehow so through networking she gets her "clients" some sort of work and they pay her under the table for the service or she bills it as something else like "freelance".
Seeing as how she definitely doesn't have the license she would need to operate in either state as a talent manager (unless she's using a different name or company that she's not disclosed which is possible but unlikely, seeing as how she says it's been the same business for 9 years she can't mean another one).
What does everyone else think because this isn't looking very good for the people who defend her and say this must be her job when all the signs point to it not being possible for her to have this job, at least not legally.

Asst'd skunk facts because I always want to tag ramble whenever I reblog skunks
They're legal to keep in a number of states as well as Canada and the UK! With license or without, depending on location. Registered breeders and everything are out there.
Many pet skunks get an elective surgery to remove the stink gland, although this is illegal in the UK and considered similar to declawing in that it removes a natural behavior purely for human convenience. You can also just not terrorize a skunk, and then it won't spray
Spraying is a last-resort weapon for skunks; it usually takes a few days for enough fluid to build up in the stink glands again
They have an unusually low level of fear because they've got very few predators on account of the aforementioned stink glands. Certain birds of prey can't smell their fluid, but everyone else with a nose...Although they are a significant rabies vector, it's not strange to see them not very fearful of humans in the same way it's strange to see a bat or a fox or a rabbit not showing much fear of humans. If you've seen a video of a skunk nosing up to a human and then walking away, that's not bizarre behavior (also they're crepuscular, not purely nocturnal!)
The primary barrier to them being legal pets in the US is the lack of an official rabies vaccine more than anything else. I've heard that a feline rabies vaccine functions perfectly for them, but isn't currently federally recognized in the US (this is also a very off-the-books "I've heard...") because testing would be very expensive for little profit
Pet skunks tend to get fat easily because the cheapest/easiest thing to give them is cat food, which is very high-calorie...and skunks are gorge eaters. Since they're scavengers their instinct is to eat fucking everything they can whenever they can
On the scale of exotic pets my completely amateur asshole opinion is...not the worst you could do, honestly. They're not an already-domesticated species like cats/dogs, but it's also not the kind of thing like a mountain lion or a wolf where 'dude that is literally just a wild fucking animal in your house.'
I don't get vaguely concerned when I see a skunk tiktok like I do when I see, idk, people snuggling with tiger cubs or some awful Dodo video. Although animal abuse is always out there, their pop culture bad reputation actually protects them a little bit in this sense; very few people want to keep a pet skunk for clout, where zillions of people want to keep a wolfdog for clout.
(of course, the ethics of keeping an exotic pet are questionable for a number of other reasons such as vet availability, but like I said--on the scale.)

How to be a US Pharmacist if you’re a Philippine Registered Pharmacist.
Tumblr media
(Overview of the process ⬆️)
Maraming nagtatanong sa page ko kung paano daw maging US Pharmacist as a Filipino Pharmacist. Kaya, I'll just create a one big post about it. Oo nga pala, it's really hard to get a work visa/sponsorship from the US kung foreign pharmacist ka.
So, kung wala kang way na makapunta ng US to legally work (like a petition, etc) it'll be difficult (Unlike sa mga nurses). I'm no visa expert and won't be able to answer any at all.
but if you're already in the US (as a citizen/permanent resident) and you have a BS Pharmacy degree from the Philippines, here's for you!
First, let's talk about qualifications:
1. You have to be a licensed pharmacist in your home country first. kailangan, board passer ka muna sa Philippines. HINDI REQUIRED ang ANY work experience to qualify for the exam.
2. Your education should be a MINIMUM of 5- years if you graduated after Jan 1, 2003. Kapag 4 years lang natapos, you'll have to go back to school for another year (CLINICAL PHARMACY) or PharmD (plus 2 years). NO EXCEPTIONS. again, di naman mandatory ang pharmD. Okay na yung clinical pharmacy. Also, Not MS/PhD kasi i-evaluate siya case by case and hindi guaranteed to qualify.
Pero kung grumaduate ka before ng Jan 1, 2003, you can take the exam with a 4-year degree as long as you passed the other requirements like TOEFL, good standing w/ your license sa PH, etc.
After meeting the education requirements, no need to study again in the US.
For me, I graduated sa CEU-Manila noong 2015. Kulang yung 4- years na degree ko kaya I went back to school noong 2020-2021 (Clinical pharmacy). I'll link below my experience a full-time student sa Philippines while also working full-time in Texas.
Let's talk about the exams you need to take:
1. TOEFL (ENGLISH TEST) - there are minimum scores you need to achieve. Kahit offered ang TOEFL sa Philippines, it's only acceptable by the US kapag tinake mo siya mismo sa US territories or parts of Canada. You can take this exam with a US tourist visa. TOEFL ha, not IELTS. You can take this anytime kasi 2 years naman ang validity niya.
2. FPGEE (Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Equivalency Exam). Itong exam na ito ay para sa mga Pharmacists educated outside of the USA. Kahit sa Philippines ka grumaduate, or UK, or Canada, Australia, SAME EXAM for EVERYONE. You need to pass this exam in order for you to INTERN sa desired state mo. This exam is usually administered ONCE A YEAR DURING FALL. You can take this exam with a tourist visa. Btw, it is important to say na kahit na qualified ka na to take the FPGEE, it doesn't guarantee your US tourist visa acceptance. kaya plan accordingly.
question about how to apply? please join the PH FPGEE support group. I already posted the detailed instructions on how to file your application. here's the link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/filipinofpgeesupport/
Next step is INTERNSHIP. Once you passed TOEFL and FPGEE you're given an FPGEC certification which is a requirement for foreign pharmacists to start Internship! With internship, US tourist visa is not allowed anymore. You need to have a work visa na. Yung required hours ay depende sa state kung saan ka mag-wwork. Example sa California ay 1500 hours. Sa Texas ay 1740 hours. CHECK your RESPECTIVE state's Board of Pharmacy.
3. NAPLEX (North American Pharmacist Licensure Examination). Ito pa lang mismo ang US Pharmacy Boards. I've shared to you my experience when I took it. Ito yung exam na tinatake ng mga FPGEE passers after internship and PharmD graduates ng US. Please see my posts about sa details ng exam and my experiences. I'll link them below.
4. The last exam is MPJE/CPJE. Multistate Pharmacy Jurisprudence Examination® aka the LAW EXAM. Kahit naipasa mo yung NAPLEX pero hindi yung MPJE, you won't be able to practice as a US Pharmacist. This is a very tricky exam and it should not be taken lightly.
after you take these exams + Internships, you're now a US Pharmacists!! Good luck everyone and I encourage you to read the official BULLETINS only from the NABP site. Sila lang ang naglalabas ng official requirements and wag maniwala sa mga sabi-sabi.
If you have any questions except VISA, feel free to message me as I have taken all the exams na. I'm here to help yo Pero before you ask anything, please read this "frequently asked questions": https://theilustrado.com/faqforcc Any repeating questions won't be answered kasi nakalagay naman na diyan. 🙂

Reason Why Your Personal Licence Can be Suspended
Yes, a Personal Licence can be suspended or revoked if any of the offences are committed by the licence holder. The Licensing Act 2003 has a complete list of these offences that can lead to suspension of your licence. It guarantees that the licence holder is an accountable, law-abiding citizen.
A Personal Licence ensures that its holder is competent enough to operate or oversee a company that provides or sells alcohol in a professional way. If licence holders don’t follow the rules or expectations, their licence can be suspended or revoked.
Personal Licence holders risk having their licences cancelled for up to six months if it’s found that they are not adhering to the requirements.
What Happens If a Personal Licence Gets Suspended or Revoked?
A Personal Licence can get suspended or revoked for up to six months, which means the business will face a loss of 6 months. Moreover, the staff won’t be employeed or get paid during this time period. This will lead to damage to the owner’s reputation for customers and staff. Once the Personal Licence gets suspended or revoked, the holder will have to re-apply for it, which means paying additional costs.
How Can You Lose Your Alcohol Licence in the UK
You can lose your Alcohol Licence in the UK if you:
fail to meet the requirements you stated you met on your application.
used false documentation or an alias.
allowed another person to use your licence to engage in licensable behaviour and receive a sentence or disposal for a relevant offence.
the date your sentence restrictions end puts you in the “Automatic Refusal” category of the licence criteria.
are not authorised to work in the United Kingdom (unless you are a director of a UK-registered company).
violate the licensing requirements.
are not considered a fit and proper person to hold a licence if you violate any of the licence conditions, including any additional conditions imposed on your licence.
fail to complete the required training.
receive a sentence or disposition for a relevant offence, and the date your sentence restrictions end puts you in the “Consider Additional Factors” category of our licence criteria.
are not qualified to have a licence.
Lost, Stolen or Damaged Personal Alcohol Licence
Under section 126 of the Licensing Act 2003, if you lose your Personal Alcohol Licence or it gets stolen, you must inform the Licensing Authority. You must complete the application form and send it to the Licensing Authority. With the application, you must pay a fee of £10.50 in the form of a cash, cheque, or postal order. You can also make credit/debit card payments over the telephone.
If your Personal Licence gets damaged, you can send the old licence with the ID card and paper copy to the Licensing Authority. Then you will receive new licence documents from the authority.
Surrender a Personal Alcohol Licence
A Personal Licence doesn’t expire and has a lifetime validity, but the holder can surrender it whenever they want. If a Personal Licence holder decides to surrender the licence, they must inform the Licensing Authority in a proper way.
To surrender your Personal Licence, you must:
Complete the application form.
Send your Personal Licence with the ID card and paper copy.
Reasons for Getting Your Licence Suspended
The UK Government may suspend your licence for either one or all of the following reasons.
If they think that you are a danger to everyone’s safety.
If they think that doing so is for the general welfare.

Start a Business in the UK: Essential Steps for Foreigners
Tumblr media
Launching a business in the UK as a foreigner can be an exciting prospect, but it involves some essential steps to ensure a smooth process. Here's a detailed guide to get you started on starting a business in the UK:
1. Determine Your Legal Standing
Visa Requirements: Check if you need a visa to live and work in the UK. Several visa options exist for business purposes, including the UK Expansion Worker Visa, Innovator Founder Visa, and Self-Sponsorship Visa. The UK government website provides a visa checker tool to help you identify the most suitable visa for your specific situation.
2. Secure the Right Visa
Gather Required Documents: Each visa type has specific documentation requirements. These may include a business plan, financial projections, and proof of funds. Research the necessary documents well in advance. Don't underestimate the importance of a comprehensive business plan for starting a business in the UK. Use it to showcase the viability of your business idea to the visa authorities. A well-structured plan that identifies a market gap, demonstrates a strong understanding of your target audience and outlines realistic financial projections will significantly strengthen your visa application.
Visa Application Process: Apply for your chosen visa through the UK Visas and Immigration service. Processing times can vary, so factor this into your planning when starting a business in the UK. Be prepared to provide detailed information about your business idea, funding sources, and any relevant qualifications or experience you possess.
3. Craft a Compelling Business Plan
Market Research: Conduct thorough market research to understand the UK market for your business idea. Analyse your target audience, competitor landscape, and potential challenges. Identify any legal or regulatory hurdles specific to your industry when starting a business in the UK.
Financial Projections: Develop a solid financial plan that outlines your business model, revenue streams, costs, and funding requirements. Consider creating financial forecasts for at least the next three years. This will help you secure funding from investors or banks if needed, and demonstrate the long-term viability of your business when starting a business in the UK.
4. Choose a Business Structure
Sole Trader: The simplest structure, but you have unlimited liability for business debts. This means your personal assets are at risk if the business incurs debts.
Limited Company: A more complex setup process, but offers limited liability protection for owners (directors). Their personal assets are shielded from business debts, offering greater financial security. This is a popular option for many businesses starting up in the UK.
Partnership: For businesses with multiple owners who share profits and liabilities. Partnerships can be complex from a legal and tax standpoint, so consider consulting a professional if you choose this route.
5. Decide on a Business Name and Address
Name Availability: Check for name availability through Companies House, the UK's registrar for companies. Choose a name that is memorable, reflects your brand identity, and adheres to UK naming regulations. This is an important step for starting a business in the UK.
Registered Address: You'll need a UK-registered address for your business. This can be a virtual office or a physical location. Having a registered address establishes a business presence in the UK and is essential for receiving official correspondence.
6. Register with HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC)
HMRC is the UK tax authority. Registering with HMRC allows you to collect taxes like VAT (Value Added Tax) if applicable to your business. Understanding your tax obligations early on will ensure compliance and avoid any penalties further down the line when starting a business in the UK.
7. Additional Considerations
Industry Regulations: Research any specific licenses or permits required for your industry sector. Failing to obtain necessary licenses can lead to fines or even business closure.
Business Bank Account: Open a business bank account to separate your personal and business finances. This will improve transparency and simplify financial management for your business starting up in the UK.
Professional Advice: Consider seeking advice from a business lawyer or accountant familiar with foreign-owned businesses in the UK. Their expertise can navigate complex legal and tax regulations, saving you time and money in the long run when starting a business in the UK.
Resources:
The UK government website offers a wealth of information for starting a business in the UK: https://www.gov.uk/set-up-business
You can also find helpful resources from organizations like the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) https://www.fsb.org.uk/
It is important to note that specific details may vary depending on your business type and visa category. Therefore, it is recommended to conduct thorough research and seek professional help to ensure a successful process.

Binance Cards Will Stop Working on December 20, 2023. What Are the Alternatives?
Binance cards first appeared in 2020 and have been a convenient payment solution for cryptocurrency users. It was easy and convenient to pay for goods with cryptocurrency anywhere the card was accepted—not limited to companies that accepted cryptocurrency directly. This year, Binance faced legal difficulties from the SEC and was unable to renew the program. Binance Visa cards will stop working in the EU and European Economic Area on December 20, 2023.
Tumblr media
Fortunately, there are alternatives. Let's look at three cryptocurrency cards that can continue to be used in 2024.
WinVisa (recommended)
Tumblr media
Available: all over the world
Spending limit: up to $15,000 per day, up to $100,000 per month, up to $500,000 per year
ATM withdrawal limit: up to $10,000 per day, up to $30,000 per month, up to $75,000 per year
The WinVisa card is part of the DarWin ecosystem, known for its line of investment products. This map builds a bridge between the fiat and cryptocurrency economies. Pros: some of the highest limits on the market, favorable terms of use, the ability to use Google Pay and Apple Pay.
The card officially cooperates with Visa and has an official Digital Currency Operator License in the EU, which eliminates the risk of card suspension (as was the case with Binance Visa). Unlike most competitors, who offer their services only within the EEA, WinVisa is ready to deliver the card to almost any country in the world.
Coinbase Card
Tumblr media
Available: EU countries, UK, USA, Canada
Spending limit: $2,500 per day
ATM withdrawal limit: $2,000 per day
The card from Coinbase is the first alternative that comes to mind after the closure of Binance Visa. After all, Binance was the largest cryptocurrency exchange, and Coinbase is immediately second on this list. And yes, indeed, their cards are quite popular and convenient, the exchange has a good reputation, and cooperation with Visa gives access to almost all trading terminals in the world.
However, the disadvantages are high commissions for conversion (2.49%) and regulatory risks. Coinbase is registered in the USA, which means it could also face problems from the SEC, and then they will have to fold their cards after Binance.
Nexo Card
Tumblr media
Available: EU and European Economic Area countries
Spending limit: up to €10,000 per day, up to €60,000 per month
ATM withdrawal limit: up to €2,000 per day, up to €10,000 per month
The Nexo card is touted as the world's first crypto debit/credit card. If you have cryptocurrency on your balance as collateral, the card allows you to use credit funds, thereby avoiding the direct sale of cryptocurrency. Another plus is that there are no usage fees. Issuing a card is free, there are also no monthly or annual fees — only fees for transactions and cash withdrawals.
However, a significant drawback of Nexo is its low limits, especially for cash withdrawals. Some may find these limits sufficient, but many cryptocurrency users are looking for more flexible cards (for example, WinVisa).

Establishing Your Business in the UK: A Comprehensive Guide to Company Registration
The United Kingdom, with its bustling economy and favorable business environment, serves as an attractive destination for entrepreneurs and investors worldwide. The process of registering a company in the UK is relatively straightforward and streamlined, allowing you to quickly establish your presence in this dynamic market.
Tumblr media
Company Registration: The Essentials
Company registration in the UK involves several crucial steps that ensure your business complies with the legal and regulatory requirements. Here's a comprehensive overview of the registration process:
1. Choose a Company Structure:
The first step is to determine the most suitable company structure for your business needs. The two most common options are:
Sole Proprietorship: This is the simplest structure, where the business owner is personally liable for all debts and obligations.
Limited Liability Company (LLC): This structure offers limited liability protection, shielding the owners' personal assets from business debts.
2. Select a Company Name:

Roman Felik : Invest at your own risk!!
Tumblr media
Roman Felik is a millionaire businessman who conned people out of money to live extravagant lives and buy fake IDs to hide his identity. Rural and underprivileged people are usually mesmerized by the stickers that say “registered in the UK” and “soon-to-be listed at Euronext.” There are always a few unsuspecting people eager to part with their money to con artists, hoping to receive huge returns.
There will be zero returns because fraudsters will use the money to fuel, pay off personal debt, and purchase a set of phony IDs to avoid detection. Helix Global Capital, Swisscoin, and now Instime are just a few examples of the amazingly difficult-to-crack Ponzi schemes for the Eastern European government.
Tumblr media
Roman Felik’s Involvement in Helix Capital Scam
By all indications, Helix was a scam. You can discover extracts from the Companies House registry on the “legal information” section of the office’s website. The certificate of formation, which says that it is a private limited liability company (Limited) with the full name Helix Capital Investment LTD, is the document that matters the most to us. The Companies Act of 2006, Article 15, provides that the certificate of formation indicates the nature of the company’s ownership and duty.
The website of this fictitious fund makes it clear that Roman Felik, Dmitry Naguta, and Boghdan Vorontsov allegedly invested clients’ money in a variety of business ventures, and such actions are in line with the definition of collective investment schemes (CIS), a term defined in Article 235 of the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000.
The definition of the phrase “investment firm” states that an organization gathers capital to manage it, generate income, and then provide dividends to its clients.
Tumblr media
Helix Capital Investment LTD would have a license from the FCA and be listed in the register if it were an actual investment fund that legitimately raises capital from the general public to implement investment products. They license the company by issuing a regular registration in the Registry of Legal Entities Company House, which is against the Financial Services Act of 2012. As a result, this business is a pyramid and should be trusted only with investors’ money.
More Details About Roman Felik’s fraudulent investment company
The Ukrainian General Prosecutor’s Office and Security Service obtained enough information in 2016 about the Kyiv Helix Capital branch to carry out the three people’s arrests on charges of significant fraud. Since no “investors” in the Helix fraud ever received any money, the three criminals were, in their views, living the high life.
Thirty bank deposits, seven luxury flats, twelve cars, and four cars each were seized. Yet the case has just been resolved in its entirety now. Although under criminal investigation, Roman Felik, Dmitry Naguta, and Boghdan Vorontsov have continued their swindling and even traveled abroad.
Several criminal and civil cases have been filed against Helix Capital and the three overall. In Ukraine and other nations, Roman Felik, Dmitry Naguta, and Boghdan Vorontsov are suspected of fraud and other crimes. Yet, they are free to carry on with their task of making as much money as possible from the trusting peasants.
Roman Felik and the Instime scam
Roman Felik created Instime, an MLM Ponzi scheme based on Instagram called Instime. In return for spreading the word about the Instime fraud, it offers to increase the blogger’s impact artificially. Roman Felik (Felyk) hired a few local Instagram stars and organized a press campaign to publicize the swindle. No, there will likely be cryptocurrencies and tokens having MLM qualities. High returns and fantastic prospects are promised.
Tumblr media
Roman Felik has many stories to share. In his native Ternopil, he operated an illegal casino. The casino was busted, and the neighborhood criminals lost their winnings. According to the sources, Roman Felik has a debt growing by $10,000 daily. Roman Felik is in debt, not the fictitious investors he conned.
Tumblr media
He owes money to mafia members, and they are not obligations that can just be discharged. He needs to develop new con tricks to keep up with the pile. Helix was widely corrupted. Therefore, he created the Instime affair as a replacement.
Transparency
Today, we received an anonymous offer to delete this article, failing which will have to face ‘Legal Consequences –

COMPLAINT FOR LIBEL AND DEFAMATION
Plaintiff, Roman Felik, brings this complaint against Defendant, for libel and defamation arising from an article titled “Helix Capital to Instime: How Roman Felik Masterminded Investment Frauds”
The next course of action from these people is probably a Fake DMCA attempt. Our official stance is that if you send 1 Fake DMCA against us, we’ll file a counter notice immediately while adding five new articles. It’s not worth it!
Final Thoughts
After an extensive investigation, it has become apparent that Roman Felik has been deceiving millions of people for years, using their hard-earned money to fuel his lavish lifestyle.
The Helix Capital and Instime scams have both been proven to be part of his fraudulent activities, and countless investors have suffered due to his actions. His victims have been left devastated, many having lost their life savings due to his schemes.
Roman Felik’s fraudulent activities have caused untold damage to countless individuals and families. His fall from grace should serve as a warning to others tempted to engage in such dishonest practices and a call to action for the financial industry to protect investors better and prevent fraud.

Medical Cannabis in the UK: A Comprehensive Look for Medical Cannabis Awareness Week
Medical Cannabis Awareness Week 1st - 7th November 2023
Tumblr media
Introduction
Medical Cannabis Awareness Week provides an excellent opportunity to discuss and understand the current situation of medical cannabis in the UK. It's a time to dispel myths, share facts, and explore the potential benefits and challenges associated with its use.
The Legal Landscape
In November 2018, the UK made a landmark decision to reschedule certain cannabis-based products for medicinal use (CBPMs). The move came after mounting evidence of the potential therapeutic benefits of cannabis for conditions such as epilepsy and multiple sclerosis. However, despite this significant legislative shift, access to medical cannabis remains challenging for many patients in the UK.
The process of obtaining medical cannabis in the UK is stringent, necessitating a prescription from a specialist doctor listed on the Specialist Register of the General Medical Council. These prescriptions can only be issued when the patient has a need that cannot be met by licensed medicines and where clear published evidence of benefit exists. Consequently, despite the legal change, the number of prescriptions for medical cannabis remained relatively low.
Furthermore, the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), which provides national guidance and advice to improve health and social care, initially did not recommend CBPMs for several conditions due to a lack of robust clinical trial evidence. However, in August 2019, NICE updated its guidelines to endorse the use of CBPMs for treating two types of severe treatment-resistant epilepsy.
Tumblr media
Accessibility Challenges
One of the major barriers to wider acceptance and use of medical cannabis in the UK is the limited data available regarding its safety and efficacy. Most healthcare professionals agree that more high-quality, large-scale clinical trials are necessary to establish definitive proof of the benefits and potential risks of medical cannabis.
The cost of medical cannabis products is another significant hurdle. Currently, the NHS rarely funds these prescriptions, making them an out-of-pocket expense for patients. The high cost can be prohibitive for many, leading some to turn to illicit sources.
Despite these challenges, there are signs of progress. In March 2021, the National Health Service (NHS) launched a major patient registry to collect data on the use of medical cannabis, aiming to build a solid evidence base. This registry could potentially pave the way for broader acceptance and use of medical cannabis within the UK healthcare system.
Advocacy and Activism
Moreover, several organisations are working tirelessly to improve access to medical cannabis for patients in the UK. They advocate for more research, better education for healthcare professionals about medical cannabis, and policy changes to make these products more affordable and accessible.
Tumblr media
Public opinion is also evolving. A YouGov poll conducted in 2019 showed that 77% of people in the UK support the use of medical cannabis. This widespread public support could be instrumental in driving policy changes and promoting further research into the potential benefits of medical cannabis.
Looking Forward
Looking ahead, there is a clear need for more robust scientific evidence to inform policy and practice around medical cannabis in the UK. There is also a need for ongoing dialogue between policymakers, healthcare professionals, researchers, and patient advocacy groups to ensure that the potential benefits of medical cannabis can be realised while minimising potential harms.
Furthermore, the experiences of other countries that have legalised medical cannabis, such as Canada and Germany, may offer valuable lessons for the UK. By learning from these international examples, the UK can develop a more effective and compassionate approach to medical cannabis.
Conclusion
In conclusion, while the UK has made strides in recognizing the potential therapeutic benefits of medical cannabis, significant challenges remain. The current state of medical cannabis in the UK is one of cautious progress, marked by strict regulations, limited access, and a pressing need for more robust clinical evidence.
During this Medical Cannabis Awareness Week, it's important to continue the conversation about these issues. Increasing awareness and understanding of medical cannabis is crucial for patients, healthcare professionals, policymakers, and the public alike. By continuing to advocate for research, education, and policy reform, we can work towards a future where all those who might benefit from medical cannabis have safe, legal, and affordable access to it.
