Comparing the Adventure Kids with the Survive Kids (Part 1)

(Aka, yet another shmuck making comparisons to Adventure because I’m unoriginal)

Everyone pretty much knows what the parallels are by now, so I’m making this post just to jot down similarities and differences that I find interesting between them. This isn’t to say these characters are all the same or that the Survive cast are supposed to be seen as reflections or copies of the Adventure cast -- this is just for fun :)

I’ve read some beautiful and in-depth analyses of Aoi, Shuuji, Saki, and their Adventure counterparts, as well as how Ryo might factor into the group. I don’t think I can do it any better, so their sections will mostly just consist of regurgitating info that’s already been written by people who already did all the work. Please read those posts by @shihalyfie and @digisurvive (as well as their other posts) if you haven’t already! They’re linked above!!

Before we start, let’s talk about the main contrast overarching all the characters:

Adventure kids were chosen for their heroism to save the world Vs. Survive kids are normal kids chosen to be sacrifices

Before we go into the character pairs themselves, I wanted to talk about this contrast first bc I love it

I LOVEEE seeing all the posts that theorize which Survive kid would have which crest, but I also notice that, with the exception of maybe 1-2 characters, not everyone agrees on who should get each crest

I’m sure the Adventure kids also have moments that embody the crests other than their own (can’t remember any off the top off my head), but I actually like this ambiguity(?) because it shows the difference between why/how the Adventure kids were chosen vs. why/how the Survive kids were chosen

Basically, the Adventure kids were chosen specifically because they had traits that would help them cooperate and fight for good (to save the world even!)

You can see this through their general selflessness and bravery even from Episode 1!

Despite being stranded in a strange world, and then attacked and backed against a cliff by a giant beetle monster, ALL of them are against their new diggle babies risking their lives to protect them and even try to hold them back

Takuma had a similar moment when he first meets Koromon, but none of the other Survive kids do

And that’s because the Survive kids are just normal kids; they're not meant to be heroes, they weren’t “chosen” for a grand purpose -- they were chosen randomly to be sacrificed by a crazy godlike being out of anger and hatred

Because of this, the characters can end up losing their sanity and becoming the worst they can be, or they can somehow fight through all that and come out as incredible people

One of the first things that stood out to me when trying to find The Trope for each of the pairs is how most of them don’t really embody the trope I chose that much. Some of them might not even embody them at all (such as Kaito not being a “rival” in the traditional sense, if any; or Shuuji not being much of a “team dad,” at least not at first) and some might not really be the first trope people think of when they see that character (Koushiro as “the smart guy” vs. “the lancer”).

But I think Takuma and Taichi both embody “The Leader” pretty well, albeit in very different ways. Shihalyfie talks about it best regarding Taichi here and here. Here are some of the similarities and differences I found interesting:

Both are decisive/make good decisions under stress

As the designated “gogglehead protagonist” this is pretty much a given lol

Taichi has always been good at leading the group forward and making (mostly) good decisions while the rest of the group might be too scared, tired, or shocked about their current circumstances to think about moving on

By contrast, Takuma is good at remaining calm under pressure (biggest example is when the school is targeted by Dokugumon, and everyone’s freaking out except for him)

This is especially notable given how early on in the game it is

But his decision-making mainly lies in hearing out what the group believes (as the Survive kids are noticeably more assertive and decisive about how to handle their situation than the Adventure kids) and choosing to best among those options

Basically, Taichi tends to make decisions on his own accord, whereas Takuma (at least at first) usually waits until he’s called upon/becomes the deciding voice before he chooses

That probably has more to do with the group dynamic (Adventure kids were more passive/cooperative vs. Survive kids were more decisive and emotional)

Both help keep the group together

One of the most important aspects of being a leader is being able to keep the group together

It’s part of why Shuuji kept failing; he often disagreed with the group’s majority decisions, and his hostile behavior would push them away

Taichi keeps the group together in a literal sense -- look how quickly they fall apart when he goes back to the real world

The only exception to this is Yamato in the Pinocchimon arc, but that’s mainly because of Yamato’s own issues that he’s been dealing with from the start

By contrast, Takuma is very aware of everyone’s emotional states and keeps the group cooperative and on the same page, but the group doesn’t automatically separate after he’s gone

It’s mostly because they can’t go anywhere because of the fog, but I still feel like they would’ve stayed together if given the choice

I think another interesting contrast is that Taichi considers everyone’s skills and knows how to delegate tasks, whereas Takuma considers everyone’s thoughts and hears out every opinion before making a decision himself

Both have Agumon as their partner

This is kind of hard to explore deeply (at least for me), because the main reason behind Takuma getting Agumon was because Agumon was the most popular choice

More specifically, Habu says that he was the digimon “a wide range of fans will easily accept”

You could say Takuma was meant to be similar -- he’s the type of person who can get along with a wide range of people, both accepting and being accepted by them

Taichi’s Agumon is similarly hard to talk about because he doesn’t really have much of a personality on his own outside of Taichi (but maybe I’m just not getting the cues)

I’ve found a couple of posts about Taichi and Agumon’s partnership here and here, but they don’t say much about Agumon himself other than the fact that he’s often on the same wavelength as Taichi

The best I can glean from this is that Agumon is just a very straightforward digimon; simple, genuine, and not having to be read too deeply to be understood

I suppose you could say it’s the same for Takuma and Taichi, both of whom are fairly straightforward people who don’t really hide how they’re actually feeling

Both are introspective and will reflect when they’ve done something wrong

Takuma’s introspection is very clear (he considers multiple different options before responding to people or making a choice; he’s slow to action early in the game because he’s thinking so much; if someone disagrees with him, he considers their perspective and wonders if he's in the wrong)

Taichi’s is not as prominent in comparison, but he thinks and considers a lot throughout the series

The most notable (to me) is how after every major argument with Yamato, he’ll stop and question whether he’s the one being wrong or if he really is being insensitive vs. practical

When he’s out of his element, he’ll also acquiesce to anyone who knows more (usually Koushiro)

Taichi’s introspection actually surprised me when I watched Adventure for the first time in Japanese (I watched the dub as a kid, but barely remember anything about it)

Taichi tries to power forward on his own without consulting other options Vs. Takuma will hear everyone out and tries to respect everyone’s feelings before deciding

Taichi’s insistence to keep moving has to do with his abundant energy (aka his physical ability to keep going for a long time) as well as a practical need to do what they need to before the enemies can win

Although he can be impulsive and brash, his main focus when barreling forward is practicality -- if they don’t hurry, the enemies might win and they’ll destroy the world

If people are feeling hurt or sad in the process, that’s unfortunate, but the enemies won’t stop just to let them grieve, so they have to keep going

By contrast, Takuma, as stated multiple times above, always respects and considers other people’s emotions (well… unless you choose the dialogue options that don’t)

Takuma himself is a sensitive and emotional person, so he’s also shared the group’s emotional states when things got especially bad (ex. Ryo’s death), but he’s pushing himself because the group needs him

Even when he advises the kids to put their feelings on the back burner, it’s always with empathy, rather than just sheer practicality

Jesus Christ Superstar: Ultimate Edition

this easter It Is Time. using my years of fixation and research i present to you The Best Version of every song from jesus christ superstar, plus commentary. obviously subjective opinion so do feel free to discourse in the tags bc as you may have picked up i enjoy talking about the relative merits of jcs productions. also i might not even stand by this in a week bc i find it hard to keep multiple versions in my head at the same time for comparison and there are so so many versions.

please note that acting, vocal quality, music direction, and where available staging have all been taken into account. act 2 in rb bc of link restrictions.

heaven on their minds - 2012 broadway revival

obviously in terms of pure vocals carl anderson is unbeatable forever, but the staging of the 2012 broadway revival pips it for me. josh young's voice is still gorgeous and the judas/jesus/mary throuple is everything. i love versions where hotm is sung directly To jesus, and i love that in this version jesus actually listen and takes judas' concerns on board. the love and respect between all three of them is palpable and even though it is a serious disagreement, part of that disagreement comes from the fact that they care about each other so much. that's tragedy baby!

special mention to henrike tönnes on the 2022 rob carroll version, i specifically like the Ending of the song for that one. also the sarcastic clap along w the disciples that judas does in the 2013 hungary version.

what's the buzz/ strange thing mystifying - 2018 tv event

annoyingly this isn't on youtube but tbh the staging is nothing mindblowing. i think what's the buzz is a great song for showcasing the usp of each version and in this one i think being able to hear the real crowd actually cheering for jesus (john legend) really adds to the narrative. i also absolutely love brandon victor dixon and as i have said before he would be one of my favourite judases if judas were straight. sara bareilles does a great 'offended' face when he bitches about her lmao.

honourable mention to the 2012 uk arena tour for again showing off the conceit of 'modern day activists' really well in this song, not forgetting of course WOTS THE BUZZ #buzz tweet

then we are decided - 2013 hungary

(starts at about 9:49) obviously not a huge amount of competition for this one, i wish more versions included it bc it's a great song :( anyway i loveee the staging choice to have everyone else freeze-framed on stage with the priests walking among them, and i freaking love this caiaphas. literally inserting it into what's the buzz also works nicely

i do miss kurt yaghjian from the 1973 film tho, forever obsessed with his voice and facial expressions. extra shout out to the striving artists version for simply existing.

everything's alright - 2006 austria

something about the musical direction in 90% of versions of this song goes right through me, like there is always some weird instrument that makes me Cringe. but this version is Nice :) really enjoy how Pissed this judas is. and i love the way the long notes last into the next section of the song. i will say i prefer the alt melody for 'people who are hungry' but you can't have everything

this is a really nice one on the all-female cast recording as well, obviously it's already the most female-heavy song of the show but shoshana bean's judas is particularly good here i think. also of course carl anderson with tears in his eyes grasping ted neely's hands while the music swells is ingrained on my brain for all time.

this jesus must die - 1994 studio cast

this album as a whole is probably my Least Favourite JCS Ever, but i will admit that this song fucks. the haunting eeriness at the beginning. the way it kicks into a funky little syncopated rhythm. the disembodied hosannas. unexpected delight.

2012 uk arena tour is unfortunately disqualified for having possibly the Most antisemitic portrayal of the priests, which is a shame because it's probably my favourite casting. one of my favourite annas portrayals, but in general all of them are distinct and fully embodied which does make that version very fun to watch. i also really enjoy the 2019 castaway productions version for this song, the way they play instruments while they sing like a lil band, and caiaphas' eye make-up is sick. 1973 film is obviously also iconic with the little scaffolding tippy taps, and the way kurt yaghjian sings 'a trick-or-two with lepers'. i love this song sorry.

hosanna - 2017 striving artists

i kind of don't have justification for this one LOL i just like it. i know there are versions that are sung better and really the staging is quite important for this song but idk i just find this version really calming. i don't know if it's the music direction? i don't know enough about music tbh

admittedly this is another one that works really well for the 2018 tv event, but doesn't quite win for me as the crowd don't cheer in all the right places and john legend doesn't react at all to the 'would you DIE for me?' line which is crucial. for good reaction to that line the 2000 film where it elevates the bitchy gay tension in the love triangle really nails it.

simon zealotes - 2011 austria

EASYYY WIN FOR ME this is actually the song that made me want to pick a best version for each one because this version IS so much better than any other one for me. the guitar!!!!!! rob's energy!! the music design for this one really fucks so severely and then there's just rob jumping around hyping up the crowd (there is a film version from 2008 on youtube, but i wanted to capture the music for this one). iconic.

big love also to hungary 2013 for having a simon who's in a wheelchair, particularly notable when it's really the highest energy role in the show. i do enjoy.

poor jerusalem - 2022 rob carroll

i cannot find any information about this album other than what's on spotify but i do enjoy the slight alt melodies in this version and i like his voice.

not a lot to go into for this song really. i like the ben forster version a lot as well, and the 1996 london cast version. 'close your eyes' is a better lyric than 'live a lie'. moving on.

pilate's dream - 2022 all-female cast

may be biased bc I LOVE ORFEH but i just think this version is so gorgeous. i love the little vocal drifts without going too overboard and distracting from the song. the music composition is especially pleasing as well.

there's a lot of honourable mentions i could give here bc i think pilate has so much potential for power and gravitas, but 1973 film, 2012 uk arena tour, 2013 hungary, and east end theatrical ensemble. are also big favs. in terms of staging i love the fact that 2019 castaway productions has jesus himself on stage playing the backing piano like he actually is haunting pilate.

the temple - 1992 australia

australia 1992 habitually has some of the most interesting and creative music direction and this is one of the songs where it particularly pays off. love the whistles. i also like that the second 'get out' is spoken, not screamed. the second half is appropriately creepy with the sustained 'chriiiist'. pretty boring staging but at least the costumes are fun.

i don't know how to love him - east end theatrical ensemble

possibly controversial choice but ugh i love this version i even love how low the sound quality is. like listening to a vinyl. i think her voice is so gorgeous and i love her accent. deeply soothing to listen to. i feel like im in the 70s rn.

i'm also a huge fan of the 1996 london cast recording, joanna ampil has such a sweet voice and the way she emotes so that you can really Hear it works well for this song. special shout out to 2012 uk arena tour which i don't think is a particularly amazing version but we get the absolute gunshow from mel c at the end so we love it.

damned for all time/blood money - 1973 film

CARL!! I feel like 1973 film and 1996 london album are at a disadvantage in this bc they're what i grew up with so i kind of take them for granted but this is undeniably iconic. no one can commit to the tortured soul but belief he's doing the right thing like him. the way he can scream but it still sounds Good. i prefer versions that have annas suggest 'a fee' rather than caiaphas just repeating himself so that's here too. the weird keening way he sings 'on thursday night'. annas dropping the coins just as he reaches for them. UGH so good. a lot less brassy than other versions as well.

this is another song that kinda fucks in every version, but the original 1970 album and the 2018 tv event are particularly good i think. also that one bit in 2012 uk arena tour where annas is like '...... get up off the floor.'

Oh Seungmin

Summary: Your best friend is getting married and you, her maid of honor, have to work with the best man, Seungmin, to help plan their wedding.

An enormous binder filled with wedding ideas that your best friend had been collecting for who knows how long sat on the kitchen table in front of you.

“You know just looking at this binder makes me not want to get married,” you remarked, lifting the top flap and letting it fall closed.

“Oh stop!” your friend smacked you on the shoulder. “Planning a wedding may take a lot of work, but it’s so worth it in the end. Look how beautiful these setups look,” y/f/, tells you opening the binder to a bunch of photos of different wedding venues. A knock on the door broke your attention away from the binder. “That must be Seungmin,” y/f/n says, getting up to answer the door.

Seungmin was the best friend of your best friend’s soon to be husband. The two of you had hung out occasionally, always with the company for your best friends of course. You were friendly with each other though, you both got along well.

“Hey,” Seungmin kindly greets you as he enters the kitchen, taking a seat at the table across from you.

“Hey,” you greeted him back casually.

“That makes me not want to get married,” Sungmin stated, his eyes bulging as he stares at the practically overflowing binder.

“That’s exactly what I said,” you laughed.

“Well aren’t you two just perfect for each other,” y/f/n jokes, retaking their seat at the table. Y/f/n and their fiancé often joke about how you and Seungmin should date. They say how it would be cute. Two pairs of best friends dating one another. You and Seungmin always just brushed it off though. You guys weren’t really that close anyway.

“Ok let’s get planning,” your friend excitedly says, opening the binder.

Today you and Seungmin had an appointment to select the flowers for the wedding. Both of you arrived at the shop and Seungmin held the door open for you to enter.

“Thanks,” you said with a small nod.

“No problem,” he smiled, following in after you.

“Welcome, what brings this love couple here?” An employee brightly asked.

“Oh, we're not a couple. We’re the maid of honor and best man for our friends’ wedding. We’re here to order flowers,” you corrected the employee.

“My apologies. You two just look really good together. We have some catalogs over here for weddings that you can look through,” the employee says, leading over to the catalogs.

After ordering the flowers you and Seungmin had to go double check some things with the venu.

“Seungmin, what do you think is better? The cream tablecloth or the pearl tablecloth?” you asked, holding the tablecloths side by side for comparison.

“Aren’t they both just white?” He questioned looking at the cloths.

“You’re not being useful,” you grumbled, going back to trying to find what color tablecloth is better suited for the wedding.

“I’m sorry. I live in a twelve color crayon box,” Seungmin chuckled out. “Look I know you want everything to be perfect for y/f/n, but who’s really gonna remember the color of the tablecloth?” Seungmin comes to stand beside you, placing a hand on your shoulder.

“You’re right, but I don’t want to let y/f/n down in any way. You saw that wedding binder,” you told him.

“Yeah I did, but you know she wouldn’t have put you in charge if she wasn’t confident that you do a good job,” Seungmin comforts you. His words bring a small smile to your face.

“I think the pearl one is the one,” you said, lifting the pearl tablecloth.

“Then let’s use the pearl one,” he smiles contentedly at you.

You went with Seungmin to get his suit for the wedding. Seungmin claimed that it would be best for you to come with him since he would never understand all the different shade colors that the suits come in or have any clue about what tie he should get.

Your eyes scanned the collection of dress clothes adorning the racks before pulling the suit pieces.

“Here, go try this on,” you told Seungmin, handing him the clothes. A few minutes later Seungmin emerges from the dressing room.

“Your girlfriend has a good eye. That suit looks great on you,” the tailor said as he monitored Seungmin's appearance.

“Thanks. It’s because she lives in a one hundred twenty colored crayon box,” Seungmin tells the tailor.

“Sungmin, here this tie is the same color as my dress,” you informed, walking up to where he stood.

“Do it for me,” he tells you in a lively manner. You pull him a little closer by the lapels of his suit jacket and reach up around his neck, beginning to tie the tie.

“There,” you say once you’re done, moving back to see the full look. Seungmin turns to look at himself in the mirror, but his eyes trail to where you're standing.

“So does this get your stamp of approval then?” he asks you.

“Yes, you look really good,” you told him. Maybe he’s imagining things, but Seungmin swears he sees a faint pink color on your cheeks that wasn’t there before. Seungmin was right, you were indeed blushing. Seeing Seungmin in that suit made you realize just how handsome he was and it had quite the effect on your heart. Spending all this time with Seungmin planning the wedding made you think about all the time your friend talked about how you should date him.

It was a few hours before the wedding and you and Seugmin, but mainly you were scrambling to make sure that everything was perfectly set up.

“Does this centerpiece look like it’s in the middle of the table to you? I think it’s a little too far left,” you question Seungmin.

“You’re doing it again y/n. Calm down, everything looks amazing,” Seungmin tells you. You take a deep breath to try and relax some.

“Ok. I should go get ready then,” you say, looking around once more to double check everything is still in its rightful place.

“Yes, go get ready. I’ll see you when it’s time for the big show,” he tells you playfully.

The ceremony was beautiful. Y/f/n looked like a princess and you don’t think that you’ve ever seen her happier. The same can be said about her now husband. They’re eyes shined and pure joy was on every ounce of their faces. Most importantly you're happy that your best friend found somebody to love and who loved them unconditionally. You may like to play an anti-romantic, but truthfully you wish to find someone to love as much as y/f/n and their husband love each other.

“May I have this dance?” Seungmin asks you, sticking out a hand for you to grab. It was now time for the reception and the newlyweds were having their first dance.

“You may,” you replied, setting your hand in his. Seungmin then guides you over to the dance floor. He placed one hand on your waist and you placed one hand on his shoulder, both of you leaving your other hands interlocked.

“I’d say we did a fairly good job. Don’t you think?” Seungmin takes a look around the room, admiring all the work the both of you did.

“Yeah I’d say so. Y/f/n told me it was everything she imagined and more,” you happily remarked.

“So I guess the pearl tablecloths were the right choice then,” he pokes.

“Do you live in a thirteen color crayon box now?” You poked back.

“I’ve been thinking about upgrading to the twenty-four pack,” he tittered.

“I think that would do you some good,” you responded cheekily. The both of you then laugh lightheartedly. A part of you feels a bit sad that after today you won’t have a reason to see Seungmin so often. Who knew planning a wedding with someone could be so bonding.

“What is it?” he quizzes you upon noticing the slight change in your face.

“I’m gonna miss spending time with you,” you told him honestly.

“Then don’t stop spending time with me,” he states like it was obvious.

“What are you saying?” you question him.

“Look maybe I shouldn’t say this at someone else's wedding, but I think it would be nice if we dated. Like how our friends always joke about,” he confesses.

“I think that would be nice too,” you admitted. Seungmin pulled you closer by your waist and let go of your hand to wrap you up in a hug. You slither your now free hand around his other shoulder to reciprocate the hug. Both of you slowly swaying to the music.

“It only took us getting married for them to finally start dating,” your friend tells her husband when she notices you and seungmin together.

“Guess we should’ve got married sooner,” he joked.

In case things weren’t cliche enough you caught the bouquet of flowers when it came time for the flower toss.

“Guess it’s time to start planning our wedding huh?” Seungmin jests from behind you, whispering into your ear.

“After this one I think I need a year to recover,” you dramatized.

“I can wait. I could use the recovery time too,” he responds, pulling you into his chest. You simply leaned into his embrace enjoying the moment.

Something I haven't done in AGESS, is give y'all some fic updates!!

I'm going in order of what's being worked on the most at the moment!

✵It's Visceral And It's Cruel✵

So I've been working on chapter 5 for the past couple of weeks here and there, but I've really tried to buckle down this week and I'm actually about halfway through it! Since the next couple chapters are already pre-planned out, I've got my list of plot points/scenes that I know need to be included per chapter. This chapter has 6 plot points/scenes and I'm planning on finishing off the 2nd scene and moving on to the 3rd today! Fingers crossed honestly, but Y'ALL I'M SO EXCITED FOR THIS CHAPTER!! A lot is going to happen, and while it won't all be particularly Rhaemond based, I think it'll be super interesting! A lot of things will be set into motion and there's going to be some super tense and interactions between our big name characters!

Release date: TBD (I would LOVEEE to work all through my weekend to get this out by then, but we'll see, I won't promise that now tho)

❤️‍🔥Burnt Over And Over Again❤️‍🔥

OOOOOooooo this fic has a chokehold over me right now!! Likeee, chapter 5 has ALOT planned for it. It's going to be a pretty long one in comparison to the other relatively short chapters! Last chapter had Aemond tracking Rhaena down in Venice and it was so tense and sexual, just imagine that energy multiplied for this next chapter!! The ✨DRAMAAAAA✨ I'd say I'm about a quarter of the way through, there's an argument/conversation they needed to have at the start of this chapter that was really giving me trouble, but once I worked through it, things were flowing a lot easier!

Release date: TBD (there's still a lot left to write, but who knows, maybe the inspiration will hit me this weekend)

So technically this is a pretty direct sequel to Early One Morning, and if you've read that, then this literally takes place that very same morning 😂😂 except it's ✨ Breakfast Time✨ now. I've actually got this entire thing written out, back when Early One Morning was going to be one big one-shot, I'd already written this scene as the next scene after the kids joined Rhaena and Aemond in bed. So technically, all I need to do is spruce it up a little and then edit it and it's done! Thinking about it now, I think I might try and finish this one up as soon as possible so maybe it can go up by Thursday or Friday...maybe even tonight, but we'll see.

How the hell are you supposed to get away from him? You get up from the couch in his driver’s room. “I’m going for a walk,” You tell your brother, Carlos.

“Where?” He asks, always the worrisome brother.

“Behind hospitality, I need to stretch my legs.” You tell him, kissing his cheek before he could protest. Carlos steps out the door behind you, “be back in 15!” He calls to you and you wave him off, skipping down the hallway and out the back doors.

The jog down to the back of Haas hospitality had you exhausted. Why did they have to be so far down?

You glance around for him, your bright red shirt sticking out like a sore thumb in comparison to the white building. His hand on your back startles you, you can smell his cologne before you see him. Mick reaches for your hand, pulling you down through another back pathway, the two of you blocked off by the rows of tyres.

“I missed you,” he whispers, kissing you softly.

Your hand rests on his jaw, kissing him back. “I missed you too.”

“I wanted to ask you if you wanted to come over tonight, maybe spend the night with me?” He asks, looking at you. His blue eyes piercing into you and everything in you wants to say yes but you know you can’t.

“Mick, you know I-” he cuts you off before you can say the words. “I know,” he sighs, kissing you once more.

“I know you love your brother but what the hell? Why won’t he leave you be?”

“You know I’m the youngest and well.. Carlos is just finding it hard to deal with the fact that I've grown up. Plus, you know we shouldn’t even be doing this.” You tell him.

Mick rolls his eyes, “stop telling me that. I love you, y/n, I don’t care what anyone think, especially not your brother.”

“Yeah cause that attitude will definitely get you in his good graces.” You smile at the driver, your arms over his shoulder as you pull him closer. Mick pushes you back against the tyres, his lips finding yours again. It would have gone further had your phone not starting ringing.

Carlos.

“Yeah?” You answer, trying not to sound out of breath.

“Where are you? We're leaving in 5 minutes.” Carlos tells you.

Mick’s lips on your neck, pulling on the neckline of your shirt to kiss along your collarbone, leaving a little mark there.

“I’m coming, be there in 2 minutes.” You hang up on him, pulling Mick up to kiss him again. “Love you,” you mumble against his lips.

“Love you more.” Mick gives your hip a squeeze before letting you go.

Once you return, you find your brother talking to Charles in the lobby. You tell him you’re going to grab your bag and run off to get it. Your cousin, Carlos, was in there, getting the last of his things.

“Hey, he's ready.” You tell him, Carlos nods. “Here,” he hands you his jacket.

You look at him confused, “it’s not cold?”

“No, I know. Just figured you won’t want your brother to see the tyre marks on the back of your shirt.”

Your brows pull together, turning to look back at the shirt in the mirror. Fricking Mick pushes you into slicks, the threads of the tyres leaving a mark on your shirt.

You take the jacket from him, pulling it on. “Thanks,”

“Mhm hm,” Your cousin slings an arm over your shoulder, “better tell him about Mick soon before he figures it out.”

“You know?” You look at him as you two walk out. “He looks at you like he's in love,” the man laughs.

hi i notice you translate sometimes and i was wondering are you korean or are you learning korean? i found this youtube channel that are iu fans and they started to fall in love w/ tae through the behind the scenes from iutv and it made me feel like i was falling in love with him again! lol but they do this segment called learn korean where they watch the videos but also provide context and clarification on words and what they're saying or if the translations are not correct, and i realized that... the korean language has SO many words that describe a specific thing and it makes english so plain and bare in comparison. like there's a word for a smile you have when you're proud of something, but in english we'd just say "he smiled proudly" you know? ugh. i wish i could learn korean but my brain just.. doesn't not compute. and it sucks cause i loveee words! like i love when i find pretty words or descriptions or sayings and i feel like english doesn't give a lot of room for that ;-; its been fun learning new korean words though. like i only know words i hear a lot from members, like "pork belly!" "handsome!" "i dont know!" lmao

No, I'm not korean and I’ve never learnt the language formally ;; I’ve actually answered similar asks previously (1 | 2) but TLDR basically I’ve just been consuming kpop and kdrama for so long that I’ve grown to understand some commonly used phrases and words! So even though I can comprehend it (to a certain extent) via reading or listening, I can’t actually write or speak it well LOL

I think its wonderful how that group of UAENAs made you fall in love with tae all over again hehe I also love that they have a segment like that, they're really doing god's work because those are very informative and helpful for those who'd like to learn the language! Mmm again I need to stress that I'm not a native speaker and I do not have professional proficiency in the language so this is all based on my limited knowledge and own personal opinion! But yeah I think korean is a lot more expressive/descriptive (?) they seem to use a lot of metaphors! I think there are also a lot of nuances...which unfortunately often get lost in translation ;;

I'd say you're on the right track because that was exactly how I started off too! Don't feel defeated just yet okay? Just allow yourself to continue enjoying korean content as you always have, there are lots you can actually pick up without having to feel the dread of learning! You've got this <3

first of all i already said it but i am SO freaking in love with namtar's character design. the practical effects are so, so, so freaking good. the way he walked... literalllyyyy i hate 2 draw comparisons, but i think abt how nowadays so much shit is just cgi'd for the fucking HELL of it like... ough you could NOT get cgi that would be anywhere near as harmonious as this costume was with the actor's performance. that cunt was feeling themselves.

and in general i will say i just. like tbh i knowww ive said it a lot but its so good and refreshing how creative some of the character designs are. theyre freaking weirdoooo. WEIRDOOO. I LOVEEE it. the other little scientist... idid not catch names (thats one thing i will say abt farscape - the names are so hard to get a hang of omg lol..) BUT i liked that design too. smile. aeryn's transition was a bit iffy but HEY. cant win em all

also i love what they did with aeryn this episode also and specifically her repertoire with pilot. they have a really good fucking dynamic, man. best friends despite everything. i am actually really glad i like her bc i WAS worried as... perhaps its a more mdern media lens, but i feel like characters of her background, or her baxkground adjacent, can be done ehrhrm. not very well. but i think.... thus far i really love the way the show does handle lots of little character moments in the episodes.

LIKE THATS!!! Thats what i like!! bc- SORRY, im going 2 use trek as an example bc its a. decent comparison. but u have tng, yah? and its not entirely fair- thats episodic, yknow. but a lot of ehrm the character are extremely static and kinda. shallow in tng. lIKE I LOVEEE them sure and theyre all charismatic but i think with many of them ... ehrm lac depth... and . mm its moreso theyre always there to service individual stories, rather than the story is there to service them. and sooo they have to be a little blank- bc they are basically functions, for individual eps, and sotheyre kinda ? at the whim to change from ep to ep bc of that . and we do get some character eps but due to the nature of the show... u dont get the slow release of development, building them like you do here.

and i loveee that here bc its well doneee it is. smile. the way each of them do get fleshed out in every episode and its at a pretty organic pace like ive been saying. and so i likeee aeryn bc i feel like- i feeeel like i was worried they might go too much, too fast with her and it wouldn't work. but the steadier pace.... again, i really love pretty much all her interactions with pilot. i freaking love pilot man . sorry

also love zhaan ive said i love zhaan i want more zhaan bc her concept is everything to me. grin. had 2 say that too BUT OH

on the topic of aeryn. one thing i kinda wish.... I MEAN THEY WOULDNT. AND IT WOULDDD BE FUCKING WEIRD FOR IT TO JUST HAPPEN IN SOME RANDOM EP. but goddd part of me kinda wishes that there was no hard reset in this ep. or at least aeryn had someee lingering issues from whatever that was bc christ was that fucked up. wha tt he hell giys

speaking of, i also liked the like... non-apology from d'argo. again going back 2 what i said. i think its again... i dont know. it feels all the more... natural 2 me... like he's like "oh i would do that again. for sure." and pilots like "i expected that." i think its again wht i appreciate from farscape... theyve done this a few times where its just... a very measured response from characters instead of just freakingggg... forcing them to grovel, trying to close the episode arc story in a narratively satisfying way...instead its just again like yeahh he isnt fuckin sorryyy man. and its fine. lets play freaking music

also final thought. i insist d'argo should have paws still . like lion paws. anyways

You didn’t know how things ended up like this. Usually, you and Killer had an amazing connection, spent time together and made plans. But somehow, maybe because he got busy with work, Kid inviting him to go out almost every weekend and your own personal life, you and your boyfriend lost the sparkle somehow. Maybe you both needed a time apart? Killer also felt the relationship changing, but the blonde wouldn’t let you go that easily, not without trying one more time.

Killer knew how much you loved aquariums, so on that Saturday afternoon, he messaged you, asking for you to get ready because he’d pick you at your house in a few. Your boyfriend kept the destination a secret, but he promised you’d love it. It took him a few hours to decide between the aquarium or the planetarium, but your boyfriend decided to take you to the last one on the next weekend.

When the man parked in front of the public aquarium, you felt like a little kid in front of a toy store, and the fact Killer actually still remembered this was one of your favorite places to go made your heart full of joy.

As you entered the aquarium, he held your hand, caressing it gently with his thumb, smiling at how happy you were, looking at all the different kinds of fish, sharks and turtles . Killer missed moments like this, moments of pure and genuine happiness, enjoying the small things with no interruptions and just going on cute little dates.

You both stopped to carefully read about each species, giggling when you saw some funny looking fish and telling each other what they reminded you of. It felt like how the relationship used to be. It felt pure, happy and romantic. His arms were around you, or sometimes his fingers were interlocked with yours. The blonde placed kisses on your head while walking… You missed that so much.

You both headed to the souvenirs shop and the blonde was right next to you while you tried to find the perfect plushie.

— We should take the penguin one. — he suggested, taking one of the penguin plushies. In fact, it was very cute.

— I liked. But why the penguin? — you smiled.

— It’s because… — Killer never thought these kinds of words would leave his mouth. He could be vocal about his feelings once in a while, but that comparison wasn’t the most romantic thing, at least, he didn’t think so. — Because I read somewhere that some penguins find one mate for life, right? At least, some of them. And… I promised to love you forever. I don’t know… — he felt embarrassed to say that, would you think it’s cute, at least?

— You did. — his words made your heart feel so happy, so warm. — I think the penguin is just perfect, then.

He nodded, feeling relief to know you didn’t think it was too cheesy of him.

— I’m sorry if I made things feel like they were slowly fading… — Killer’s big hand touched your cheek gently, and you closed your eyes, just feeling his thumb caressing you. — I love you. You know I do, and I always will.

— I love you too, Killer. I was just… Afraid of things not being the same again. I was so afraid I’d lose you somehow.

—You’re not going to lose me. Ever… — he whispered. — I promise you.

After the rough paths, it was nice to know that at least he still felt the same way he did when you both started dating. Killer still had plans, just like you did. The man still loved you like you loved him. You both still wanted to be together forever, or for as long as you could.

You both knew that one date wouldn’t magically fix things, although it helped a lot. It gave you the chance to know that you two were willing to fix things, to make the flame sparkle again. This date was only the beginning, but you felt confident now. After all, Killer never broke his promises.

nana rewatch notes- episode 4

- im actually really enjoying hachi and shoji’s relationship. he was definitely necessary for some of hachi’s growth prior to the series. they also have good chemistry earlier on. they’re cute!

- because of shoji, hachi develops a realistic plan for the near future. this is a good thing! she becomes slightly more responsible from being with shoji, but she’s also only doing this for his sake. what does hachi want to do outside of shoji? it doesnt matter to her.

- i like the transition to nana’s backstory. it also has a complete contrast in tone to hachi’s. mmmmm i love it

- GODD the snowstorm symbolism is so good. as we transition from hachi to nana, nana's first line of narration is "i don't know where i was born" with a shot of a snowy sky. it's also very QUIET. these things together....isolation is the theme

- "right now, i work long hours while polishing the shards of my dream" i just...love that line lol. it's also another contrast to hachi- nana's goal is completely her own HOWEVER,,, nana's dream ends up conflicting with her own emotional desires and needs. (emotional needs that revolve around ren for the most part)

- LOVEEE that nana has groupies lmao

- ren and nana are so hot 😫 they’ve only been on screen for a couple of seconds and i cant take it

- something i never paid attention to is the drastic difference between how hachi and nana interact in FRIENDSHIPS (particularly in their backstories). nana seems so much more casual while hanging out with her band in comparison to hachi’s interactions with junko

- all of nana's friends are men. her only friend in high school was nobu. as we know, hachi had a lot of difficulties with being friends with men

- another note i made is that all of the band members are clearly very fond of nana (each in different ways we realize later on). another contrast to hachi’s friends who begrudgingly take care of her

- this is my first time watching the sub and omg i love nobu’s va in this he sounds so childish but also lax?

- i LOVEEE nana and ren's relationship. the mutual obsession (or more importantly, the DESIRE for mutual obsession) is just...so tasty. also, again, this is a MASSIVE contrast to hachi's experience with love. this is much more intense and a lot less distant

- THE SNOW

- nana and ren walking alone in the snow (and this can also apply to earlier with nobu and yasu) really helps show that these are all loners who have found each other under harsh circumstances

- and through nana's perspective, the snow also represents anxiety of losing sight of those close to her (and of herself). it represents her desire to keep ren close and never let him out of her reach

- was that a subtle throwback? "hey, ren. do you remember? there was a snowstorm the first time we met as well" HOW DID I NEVER CATCH THAT

this is especially good bc when hachi asks nana in her narration if she remembered when they first met, hachi finishes the line "you might think it's silly, i believe that was fate" once again they fail to realize where they are actually similar

- back to snowstorm symbolism- nana and ren met during one. they literally found each other in a cold world and clung together for warmth. this further emphasizes the desire to STAY close and a fear of separation

- nana clarifying that ren is the person that she lost her virginity to, her first and only boyfriend definitely has me thinking about the parallels between ren and hachi. hachi being nana's first girl friend and how her feelings for hachi resemble the same intensity as ren's. its very interesting

- me looking @ nana: i’m just like her (has infatuation issues)

- and it is absolutely no surprise that in the one memory nana has of her mother (the moment she left her) is...IN THE SNOW

- and here we have a SIMILARITY between nana and hachi. nana's feelings for ren are instant. you might even call it love at first sight (hachi would've), but nana doesn't consider this love.

- nana considered her feelings for ren a mixture of jealousy and desire. she wants what he has, but also wants him

- the shot of ren telling nana that he's leaving to tokyo being a simple snowy sky is SO GOOD. nana is being left alone in a blizzard without a person to depend on for warmth.

- [spoiler] (i’ll try to be better at including warnings since i jump around a lot) another hachi and ren parallel is that nana associates both of them with storms at some point. ren is in a snowstorm that she is lost in and where he will eventually leave her. nana describes her love for hachi as a typhoon- something that will lead to eventual disaster, blowing up in her face.

that’s all i got for this episode. i definitely prefer nana’s background eps compared to hachi. that might be because nana is a more upfront narrator (though i’m not sure if that’s true). maybe it’s because what we’re learning about nana is new. i think i’m just obsessed with the weather symbolism.

One sunny afternoon, I encountered this post quoting a positive creators’ comment about Maiko which i’m too lazy to confirm its validity. Seeing its response, I think it is a very apt description of Maiko’s appeal.

Let’s get one thing straight: i loveee the childhood sweetheart trope. Really, it’s my jam. I’ve consumed so many stories of that trope by now from the great to the good to the trash. The trope would generally follow this formula:

Childhood Moment. They don’t necessarily have to have any feelings/affection/love in their childhood, but they would have that meaningful moment(s) with each other that, they may or may not immediately remember but, the narrative will show/tell as important to the love story.

Separation. They will get separated for a period of time because [insert reason].

Reunion. They will get reunited again, and that’s commonly the beginning of their love story.

Love Perseverance. If the story is a happy ending, the couple will weather years of separation, changes, circumstances, and growing up to ultimately complement each other and fall in love. The end.

In a glance, Maiko fits the trope so, *deep breath*

Let’s break down what the quote claims to be the appeal of Maiko.

PART 1: These parts of the quotes are obviously true.

Their childhood history: “They grew up with each other.”

Their separation: “And really horrible stuff happened to Zuko and their country was doing some horrible things.”

Their reunion: “once these external conflicts were out of their way, Zuko and Mai were finally able to really be together.”

VERDICT: they’ve got the basic parts of the trope down. Huzzah!

VERDICT: The quote is wrong to atla canon, lol. It seems the ‘creator’ forgot to show Zuko’s side of the crush.

But don’t fret! like i said, they do not need to have feelings for each other since childhood. What’s more required for a childhood sweetheart story is this…

PART 3: Did they have a meaningful childhood moment that the narrative show/tell as important to their love story?

Evidence of childhood moment:

Is it important to their love story? …well, to be fair, the argument can go both ways.

A. YES, IMPORTANT.

(1) The narrative shows it as Maiko’s origin story. (2) It exists in Zuko’s childhood memory. (3) It’s memorable to viewers. (4) Childhood Maiko do not directly speak to each other/ has disjointed communication and their moment is notably physical, which can be indicative of their grown-up reunion.

B. NO, NOT IMPORTANT.

Firstly, it more so establish that Zuko is self sacrificial and protective, further affirming that his jumping in front of the lightning in finale is more because of his nature than *cough* romance.

Secondly, what we know for sure is that this moment establishes Azula/Ty Lee/Mai/Zuko dynamic, which is more relevant to the foursome’s arc in The Beach episode. In comparison, it is less explicit and less important towards Maiko’s arc or subplot.

VERDICT: …it’s up to you

PART 4: ‘Tis the last part of the quote

“And really horrible stuff happened to Zuko and their country was doing some horrible things. But I think it’s really cool that once these external conflicts were out of their way, Zuko and Mai were finally able to really be together.”

According to the quote, there are 2 external conflicts relevant to their relationship:

1- “HORRIBLE STUFF HAPPENED TO ZUKO.” I think we can all agree that the entirety of book 1 and 2 are all horrible stuff for Zuko. Maiko happens during Zuko’s regression arc in book 3, which is simultaneously the lowest point of his external conflicts and the highest point of his inner turmoil. The fact that Mai and Zuko could so simply be reunited as a couple despite of years of separation and growing up attest that their relationship can stand through time. Therefore, the quote proves true.

2-“THEIR COUNTRY WAS DOING SOME HORRIBLE THINGS.” This is basically the entire atla. But voila, despite everything, they ended up together post battle, aka post external conflicts. Therefore, the quote also proves true.

And yes, they’ve had disagreements on all kinds of matters. Yes, they’ve had their fair share of turbulence, makeups and breakups. But the couple always gets together when conflicts are out of their way.

FINAL VERDICT: Maiko prevails! Mai and Zuko ultimately find their way back to each other. In that sense, Maiko qualifies as a childhood sweetheart trope.

All in all, Maiko’s story embodies the heart of the trope that despite of unfavorable circumstances, despite of separation and changes and growing up, a special kind of childhood love can persevere.

Movie Night

Day 25 is doneee!! And it’s about movie nights!! I love this trope haha! I just loveee the idea of Ladrien and Marichat visits bc they can’t bear to be away from the other! It’s just sooo cute!! Anywho, lemme know what you think <3

Adrien nervously ran a hand through his blonde hair. He peered back at himself in his bathroom mirror anxiously, searching for anything out of place. It was movie night with Ladybug and he needed to look perfect for her. Plagg snickered nearby him and he glared at the kwami. “What’s so funny?” Adrien asked, pursing his lips with annoyance.

“You,” Plagg shot him a smirk. “You’re so worked up and Ladybug isn’t even here yet.”

“Shut up,” he muttered, his lips twisting to the side. Turning back to the mirror one last time, he adjusted his outfit, hoping that he wasn’t missing something. When he was certain that everything was in place, he tossed Plagg a piece of cheese before heading out of the bathroom. Carefully, Adrien scrutinized the snacks on the table, making certain that everything was perfect once again.

It was then that he heard the small tap on the window. His head whipped up excitedly and it was then that he saw Ladybug. She was hanging outside his window with a small, sweet smile on her face. Her hand was up in a wave as her blue eyes twinkled at him in the starlight. Quickly, Adrien gave her a bright grin before opening up the window so that she could come in.

“Hey, Adrien,” Ladybug started, tucking a stray strand of hair back behind her ear. “Are you excited for movie night?”

“Always!” Adrien beamed at her before gesturing to the couch. “Feel free to sit down, of course. I hope I got all of the snacks that we needed.”

Her mouth dropped open as she gaped at the array of food on the table. Turning to him with a pair of wide eyes, she said, “Adrien, you didn’t need to do all of this! Movie night is supposed to be just simple and carefree.”

“I know,” he shifted on his feet. “But I wanted to do something special tonight. Plus, it didn’t take me that long to set up.”

Ladybug’s eyes softened as she looked at him. Quickly, she pressed a kiss to his cheek, murmuring, “Well, regardless, it was very sweet of you to do all of this. Even if it wasn’t necessary.”

A blush spread across his cheeks and Adrien lifted a hand to cup the spot she had just kissed. Beaming at her, he said, “Thanks, Ladybug. I’m really glad you like it.”

“You’re welcome, Adrien. And thank you for setting it all up.” She reached down, taking his hand in hers as she squeezed it lightly. Her smile turned a touch shy as she peeked up into his eyes from beneath her lashes. She really was beautiful.

Adrien intertwined their fingers together before leading her over to the couch. He had already set up the TV to start the movie that they had chosen for tonight. Ladybug sent him a fond look when she noticed and he practically beamed with pride. Whatever little things he could do to keep her happy, he would. She deserved the world.

When they sat down together, he realized something critically important. Ladybug was still holding his hand. Neither of them had let go in the past few minutes. Adrien’s blush turned darker as he stared down at them. How long could they really stay like this for? Daydreams of holding Ladybug’s hand for the rest of time popped into his mind and he squeezed it unconsciously.

Ladybug then looked down at their hands with surprise, quickly removing hers as her face lit up. She turned her gaze away from him as she stared firmly at the TV. “S-sorry,” she murmured, nibbling on her lower lip.

“N-no, don’t be sorry! I didn’t mind at all. Actually, it was kind of nice.” He flushed lightly, wondering why he had said that at all. Ladybug was going to think he was crazy. About to choke out an excuse, Adrien stopped when he saw her expression. She looked shocked but there was a determined glint to her eyes that he typically only saw during a tough akuma attack. With her face a bright red, she reached out, her arm a red blur as she took his hand back in hers.

Ladybug didn’t say anything after that and simply kept her gaze focused on the television in front of them. Adrien felt butterflies soar in his chest as he realized that she had done that on purpose. Ladybug wanted to hold his hand. His lips twitched with pride before he reached for the remote, turning the movie on.

Like most of their movie nights, though, his attention was more focused on the girl sitting next to him than on the TV. She was just so perfect and beautiful. How could he focus on the movie when she was sitting next to him? Everything else just seemed to pale in comparison to the sound of her delightful laughter. If only movie night could last forever. Adrien would kill to spend a lifetime here, just holding onto his lady’s hand as they watched a movie together.

Sneaking a quick peek at her out of the corner of his eye, he stared longingly at her perfect smile. That smile should be on her face every day, especially if he was the cause of it. His chest swelled with pride as he gazed back at her. Maybe Adrien could suggest that they have movie nights more often so that he could see her even more. Patrols, akuma attacks, and the occasional movie just weren’t enough for him.

So focused on Ladybug, he barely noticed when the movie ended and the credits began to play. It was only when she let go of his hand to clap that he realized. Feeling bereft of her warmth, Adrien sighed quietly as he clapped too.

“That was such a good movie, Adrien!” Ladybug turned over to beam at him. “Thank you for picking it out!”

“No problem.” He laughed, rubbing the back of his neck as he grinned at her awkwardly. Well, at least she liked the movie. Maybe he could rewatch it and actually pay attention next time so that he would have more to talk about when he saw her again.

“Ready for the next one?” She nodded excitedly, reaching for a piece of popcorn as she popped it into her mouth.

Adrien gave her an easy smile before putting on the next movie. “Always, Ladybug.”

Leaning back in his seat, he placed his arm over her own seat as he started their next movie. Hopefully, Ladybug would like this one as well. Plus, maybe he could actually pay more attention this time. Either way, he was very content with the idea of spending more time with Ladybug. And maybe, just maybe, he could convince her to stay forever.
