Souta birthday special 2023

On this breezy night 2 days after Christmas. What could a guy like Ouma Souta doing here?

"Found you." A purple haired girl poke him from behind.

"Took you long enough....Harukawa-chan~"

"Get to the point. Why are you asking me to meet you this late at night? Not to mention it's midnight... you're lucky Onii-san and Okaa-san is training right now.." Said the purple haired girl or its no other than Harukawa Keiko.

"Well, I just wanna know how're you doin' after that 'night' y'know? It's pretty traumatic after all, though, my Lil sis would know that better than me." Said Souta while he stares at the river infront of him.

"Really? That's it? I'm doing fine. But if that's really just that then I must leave."

Just as Keiko was about to turn her heels to leave the place, Souta reach her arm.

"Oh-ho, of course it's not just that, young lady~ I need to show you something and I need you to give me your honest answer." Souta said as He reaches his back pocket to grab his phone.

"Make this quick."

"Oh, I will~ here.."

It's photos of headless corpses. Keiko stare at it with a wide eyes for a while before asking.

"This...what is this?!"

"What did you see~?"

"A FCKIN CORPSES WITH NO HEADS!?"

"Bingo! Oh, please do keep your voice down...people are sleeping y'know~"

Keiko stays silent before nodding and took a big breath.

"Some of Mihoko's patients were showing her these pictures and they said that it's their families or friends. They have this terrified looks on their faces. I wanna ask you something if that's okay."

Souta gives Keiko a serious look before she finally nods.

"Alright. What is it that you want to ask me?"

"Who do you think the one who did all of this?" Souta grabs some snow with his hands.

"I...honestly have no idea..." Keiko trembles a bit as she bit her thumb.

"If I have to guess...I'll guess....your sister. Harukawa Mizuki."

Keiko's face turned in to a shock and frustration look.

"Are you serious!? There's no way she'd do that! Yes, she might be sick, but she'd never do that! She's still 10 years old!"

"I've told you it's just a guess."

"R-right..."

"Well, I might be wrong, though. It's just my instinct after all. I have no proof at all."

Keiko stays silent as she hears Souta's explanation.

"Well, I guess that's all. I gave you a fright didn't i?"

Souta shot her a smirk as Keiko looks away.

"No, you're just hallucinating! Anyway, I'll go home. This is pretty useless..."

"Haha, sorry, sorry... I'll treat you some udon tomorrow, alright? Wait, no, technically it's today."

Keiko smiles a bit before hiding it with her hands.

"Thanks, I guess. Bye."

"Bye, bye~"

Just as Souta was about to turn his heel to go home, Keiko reaches the back of his jacket and pull the hem a bit.

"It's your birthday, right? It's only natural for me to give tou a present as a friend...and...take that as a thank you for helping me that time...here.."

Keiko put a small white box in Souta's jacket pocket before ran off. Leaving Souta completely confused.

"Uhm...thanks?"

Little did she know.. she's the first person who say that to him today.

Keiko Yumi

“My, another student… It’s incredibly distressing to me that I have to face more than one student of mine, even more so that the count has gone up to three students. Even facing someone as talented as Yumi-chan would be hard for me to do. Although… Well, just recalling some things, but I can’t help but be a little suspicious of her. Ah, but it’s unimportant detail. I’m sure that Yumi-chan makes for a strong leader. I’d like to warn her though, my brother makes for a very strong yet unpredictable opponent, so be careful.”

Criss Hiromi

“A-Another… I’m starting to sense a theme here. Nevertheless, Hiromi-chan was a delight to have whenever she does show up. Her stories about her adventures are exciting to say the least. Sometimes I like to intersperse my own knowledge on the places she visits, but I feel as though a lot of what I say flies over her head. I don’t want to bore her though. I’d hate it if I lost the opportunity to hear about her adventures with the ghosts and ghouls she encounters in the ruins of civilization long forgotten.”

“Just as I feared. Yoshie-chan makes for student number five in the list of enemy teams, although she already has finished my programs, which makes her a past student of mine. Unlike the other two, Yoshie-chan didn’t particularly stand out. She was studious, completed all her assignments, and attended my lectures without much of a word. It isn’t a bad thing necessarily. But now that I see her in the roster of competitors, I wonder if maybe I should have payed better attention…”

Otaku Corps

“A team of my students is a lot more intimidating for me to face, compared to a team like Sendai where it’s a group of my coworkers. Truthfully, combating your colleagues is a lot easier to do since I know they’re adults fully capable of taking care of themselves. With my students, I can’t help but worry a little for them. As distant as I try to be with the youths, I still fret over them. I hope that my dithering doesn’t put my own team in danger if we ever have to face this team.”

"Argh, is it bad to say that I, unfortunately, know this man? He was the one in charge of making the animations for my manga, Red of the Ambitious, when we decided to make it into an anime. I was already apprehensive about meeting him after seeing his appearance and finding out he was a former Yakuza. But I decided to give him the benefit of a doubt, regardless." Keiko sighs and hits her head.

"Worst mistake of my life. The guy had an awful attitude, and got upset at the smallest thing! He made working together unbearable! If it weren't for the fact that I had already signed a contract with his studio, I would have left the first chance I got! I suppose I shouldn't be surprised that he and Samatoki know each other. Both of them have anger management issues!"

Maki Umemoto

"Professor Umemoto is in the D.R.B.?! ...Wow. First Rosho-sensei, then Ryu-sensei, Takumi-sensei, and Ohara-sensei. Now Umemoto-sensei? Why are all of my teachers suddenly joining the D.R.B.? Is Otome-sama desperate to have more professors rapping? It sure is strange... even stranger knowing that he's the older brother of a former Yakuza!"

"But besides that, I really enjoy Umemoto-sensei's class! He's always eager to answer questions, and doesn't get irritated either. I like having him as a teacher. ...Although, I really wish he would lay off a bit with the speeches about the government. As an official, it makes me a bit... worried and nervous to hear one of my professors talking so violently against Chuohku..."

Shuu Edogawa

"I personally have never met this man, but Criss says she often sees him in different parts of Japan. Apparently, he works as a private investigator, which isn't really surprising considering his style of dress. He should think about dressing more casually. He stands out too much with his trench coat and hat."

山茶花 Zombeez

"I'd say I'm a bit surprised to see another of my teachers in the D.R.B., but after three of them formed a team together, I'd be lying. I am surprised though that he's teaming up with a former Yakuza and a private investigator, though. I have to wonder why Otome-sama allowed them to join. I only hope that Umemoto-sensei won't get himself hurt, especially with how much he rants about the government."

So looking on your website it seems like Ikuhara is the male voice for Zettai Unmei Mokushiroku, is that correct or am i reading your credits wrong?

Nope, you're reading that right! Ikuhara does indeed provide vocals for not only ZUM, but other chorus tracks from the series! There are complete scans of the OSTs in my Utena tunes history website, Audiology of Utena. To give you a breakdown of coolness:

The Student Council Saga's duels credit Suginami Jidou Gasshoudan (a junior choir), Maki Kamiya (who solos the Virtual Star Embryology ED), Kunihiko Ikuhara, and Shinkichi Mitsumune (the BGM composer) as the chorus for these recordings.

The Black Rose Saga's OST 2 is where it gets real wild! Not only are Ikuhara and Mitsumune credited on all the duel chorus tracks, Shingo Kaneko and Toshimichi Otsuki are credited on some: Utopian Past Tense Incantation (Kozue's), Conic Absolute Egg Archibras (Tsuwabuki's), Transparent Period of Adolescence (Keiko's), and Magic Lantern Butterfly Moth 16th Century (Wakaba's.) Kaneko is a storyboard artist and episode director, and Otsuki is a producer. Lol. This absolute party of nerds is also credited for the performance of the two songs from the Sega Saturn video game on OST 3, Herzen's Head and The Inversion of Me and My Room, and they are also the credited group for the Black Rose Saga's version of ZUM.

OST 3 covers the Akio Arc, where the auditory soundscape of the duel choruses shifts away from compositions of J.A. Seazer's work by Shinkichi Mitsumune, and those tracks are instead composed and recorded by Seazer with his own 'Theater Laboratory - Universal Gravitation.' No one else is credited in the chorus for those songs.

tl;dr: Ikuhara, as well as Shinkichi Mitsumune, are in the first two versions of ZUM, as well as the duel choruses for the first and second arc. They are occasionally joined in the second arc by other definite Not Singers from the production team. The Akio Arc and on however are recorded by Seazer with his musical theater group, and don't appear to include Ikuhara and co.

Oh! I didn't expect you to turn it back on me and ask if I had any suggestions... But I actually do!

retrograde brain (why is boredom your fate?) by Firedawn (Serpyre): kyouko/ryouko & super interesting! I really liked their relationship in it, though I will admit it's not the only focus; Junko's sister-relationship with Mukuro gets some focus too. Mukuro might actually be one of my favorite parts aside from the relationship in this one, too; I think the ending is PERFECT as well. Definitely more on the heavy side of things, but a very good read.

I Can't Fix It (is this where i give in?) by TheImmortalFlame: this one features a trans girl!Ouma named Keiko, which might not be everyone's cup of tea, but I definitely liked. It's a lot of AUs in a trench coat, too; most notably despair!Ouma. The ships are Maki/Keiko & Junko/Keiko and is pretty dark/sad but has a happy ending in the end. Love wins!

The Threshold by tsurugikinjo: a Junkan first meeting reimagining (not compliant with DR3), and one of my favorite versions of it. Warning for contemplation of suicide though, nothing happens but there are thoughts.

Mission: Inshoppable by Ripley Scrolls: more Mukuro focused than romance focused, but Komaru goes shopping with Mukuro to try and find something for Syo for her birthday, very cute! Definitely one of the more fluffy ones on this list.

Hopeless Devotion by Snarky_Sociopath: another Junkan reimagining (not complaint with DR3). I would warn that there's background incest between Mukuro and Junko, but the author has said that's only because they are like that in the DR3 canon, and that they aren't trying to romanticize it. It's also not the focus. I definitely understand if anyone wants to skip it because of that, however, as the topic makes me uncomfortable, too. It also focuses on some of the twilight syndrome girls relationships to Mikan in a very enjoyable way, too!

Chiaki Nanami Doesn't Smile by Oceantoast: Enonami with despair!Chiaki; I'm so starved of enonami content that I eat all of these sort of fics up.

Absolutely, Unnaturally, Picture-Perfect by lonely_lowri: a Mahiru character study!!! Less romance focused, but it definitely has Sato/Mahiru & Hiyoko/Mahiru in it.

Her Smile is the Sun by Midnightdemonht: This one is a Junko character study through the eyes of the remnants (not DR3 complaint), so it's not exactly focused on the romances? But they are definitely there.

Everything You've Ever Dreamed by VanadisValentine: NON DESPAIR JUNKAN... it's very sweet. They do a lot of non despair/non abusive Junkan so if that's someone's vibe, I definitely recommend their works!

Write Your Name In Secrets by PekoIsBaby: one of my favorite Celestia/Kyouko fics ever!!! It's plot is pretty darn good, too—I definitely recommend it for anyone who even has a passing interest in these two, it's really good!

Remember by PekoIsBaby: Sakura/Aoi, and my favorite of the pairing I've read. I wasn't immediately sold on the premise of mythical creature au but this one is really, really good. Even if you too aren't immediately sold on the premise, I do recommend reading it anyways because it may just surprise you!

Red Fingernails by PekoIsBaby: Mikan recovering from Junko fic with a bunch of Mikan/girls pairings, aha, though a lot of them are only implied. Ibuki/Mikan is the main ship, if I remember correctly, but there's minor Akane/Mikan & Mahiru/Mikan too. Mikan recovery fic wooo let's go!!!

Sound Bites by starrylitme: Ibuki/Sayaka focus with some Ibuki/Junko, set in the IF-verse. I don't even ship Ibuki/Sayaka but this really made me a lot more interested in them! The way they both relate to music in different ways... very interesting.

Phantasmal Voices by Kayleen756894: ghost!Junko non despair Junkan AU... warning for suicide, but very very good so far! It hasn't updated in a few years, but I'm hoping it will eventually because it's super good.

Pink Heart Flutter by GalaxyAqua: VERY FLUFFY AND CUTE... miu/kaede, just pure fluff.

To Destinations Unknown by GalaxyAqua: a very good NWP post-V3 Miu/Angie AU. Probably my favorite Miu/Angie work out there, tbh.

Burning Your Eyes In The Sun by Jacynon: TENKO/ANGIE MY BELOVED... post-V3 NWP AU, and my favorite Tenko/Angie work I've read. I love Tenko/Angie & I think this work really incapsulates why.

like an island, just me and you by criminalheart: Mikan/Tenko in UTDP & really, really good!!! I loved how it explored Mikan & didn't shy away from her sometimes darker tendencies while still having Tenko be a light in the darkness for her... and it was very sweet, the whole thing.

you and god both got the guns by Jacynon: Tsumugi/Angie & a GREAT exploration of it. Tsumugi-focused.

Better Brighter by starrylitme: NANAMIKI PRE-DESPAIR... I love this one because Mikan is a bit unhinged in it. We need more toxic doomed Yuri nanamiki & I stick by that. This isn't exactly that, but it does scratch the itch somewhat. My favorite Nanamiki story out there!!

a series in poor focus by revolutionator: SATO/MAHIRU MY BELOVED.... probably my favorite Sato/Mahiru works!

Patient Logs by shsldespair: a Mikan-focused recovery fic, with past Junkan. She talks a lot about their relationship & some of the things she says are permanently ingraved in my head... this was written before DR3, I'm pretty sure, so it's not complaint with that.

stillness in woe by sonia (orphan_account): RYOUKO/MIKAN MY BELOVED... plus it's a goddess au which is so cool!!!

Incomplete by GalaxyAqua: Akane/Mikan, and probably the best of the ship I've read! Very good. A little on the sad side, but ultimately hopeful - it's set in a non despair AU.

Liar by monsterkiss: Sayaka/Junko & one of my favorites of the ship! It's from Junko's POV which is cool to see, & canon compliant.

Soft (But Only For Her) by Kayleen756894: a collection of nine abusive Junkan fics, very sweet!!

Those are just some of my favorites! I also didn't include any that I wrote (though you can go looking for them; my account is Buttercup_ghost and I do have a fair amount of them), just ones others wrote. Happy reading!!

The Boy and the Heron was a beautiful closing piece to Mr. Hayao Miyazaki’s thirty-eight-year career in animation with Studio Ghibli. As one of the film studio’s three founders, and undoubtedly one of Japan’s greatest animation directors, Mr. Miyazaki has overseen and worked on fourteen Ghibli films, usually as a director. Some of his classics include Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro and Howl’s Moving Castle.

As someone who has seen Mr. Miyazaki’s movies throughout my entire life, I can say that a commonality shared amongst these classics is the heart and meaning put into each of the movie’s plots. When I was given the opportunity to attend a The Boy and the Heron screening, I was excited to find the heart in the story. From the film’s beginning, it was charming like all Ghibli films, and focused on whimsical themes. However, despite the fantastic elements, the story seemed to hold much more in its meaning.

The plot follows a boy named Manitoba Maki whose widowed father remarries and moves him to the countryside. Once Mahito arrives in his new home, strange occurrences start to happen surrounding a particular grey heron that lurks around the grounds and is well known by the members of the household.

The story takes a mysterious turn when the heron begins to call out to Mahito and attempts to bring him to a mysterious tower on the property. The tower in question was supposedly built by an ancestor of the family, who eventually went mad within its walls. Now, as it falls into further disarray, there is a growing magic inside that leads to a parallel realm. Throughout it await answers to the mysteries of the family, and a journey into accepting the future and its changes.

While discussing the film with my guest at the screening, she pointed out that she interpreted the movie as a metaphor for Mr. Miyazaki’s retirement. There is a plot point of a character asking to pass control of the tower to Mahito, with slight reluctance. However, this character does gain enough faith to put his worries to rest and move on.

This piece of the story bears a resemblance to Mr. Miyazaki’s story, as at the age of 83, he prepares to pass the torch of his career to his son. Whether or not this has any correlation to this theme in the movie is unknown, but it is very plausible at the place that the character – and director – find themselves in at this time.

A touching feeling I felt multiple times throughout my viewing of the film, was the beauty of the animation and charm that so many Ghibli movies deliver. Despite seeing the film in Japanese with subtitles (it is also available dubbed into English), the humor still landed perfectly, and the feelings in each serious moment was reciprocated by the audience. The animated films from this timeless studio have such a way about them that can engage and bring forth feelings from their viewers, no matter where they are in this world. It is a truly beautiful thing to witness art bringing people together.

Jigoku 我的家

The radiation of Sunset shines to Keiko's face. It's 6.45 PM. After school club, seems normal for her right? Yet, she found herself covered in bruises. Her phone buzzing as new notifications of her club teacher searching for her.

In truth, she didn't attend her After School club.

She's busy listening to her classmates rambling about their problem. Her Best friends (Homura and Mihoko) need her for some counseling. And...well...

Let's just say she met her old school "friends." And they began to give her some uh..."greetings".

But even though all of that. Keiko still smiles. The soft dark purple haired still smile despite all of that. Because why?

"It’s much way peaceful than my house..."

Does her parents abuse her? Of course not, they love her. Her siblings? They love her too. Then why?

Is her house really feels like hell to the point that she's standing infront of the river like she does right now?

For some people might said...no.

But for her...it's quiet the opposite.

From her parents divorcing when she just turned 13, her big brother is an alcoholic, her sister is mentally unstable to the point she kills people, her mother relies on her to take care of the family even though, her mother is barely home.

She's given so much responsibilities.

So much that a 14 years old can't handle it much longer.

Her best friends tried to encourage her to stop from her addiction of 自傷. But instead of helping, it became quiet the opposite for her.

She knows. She knows it's wrong. But she just can't stop.

As she walks home, she stares at the bruises she had on her hand.

"What a bad coping mechanism..."

As she opens the door. The first smell of alcohol. Ah, her brother's home.

"Nii-san...have you eat anything?"

She asks. No answer.

Sigh..

She goes upstairs to her room.

Her brother threw a bottle at her. Ah, he's drunk.

Her sister suddenly in a rage and throw a scissors at her door that she luckily closes before she get stabbed.

Ah, she must be in her schizophrenic phase right now.

*tomorrow*

"Hey, Kei? I'm sorry for yesterday...I...threw a bottle...I didn't mean to I swear.." Haruto said as he opens her door.

"Nee-chan...I'm sorry too..."

"Kei, I'm sorry...." Mihoko, her best friend came to visit her.

"Yeah, me too...sorry for troubling you a lot." Homura also came to see her.

Everyone still wait infront of her door. Apologizing as if it would fix everything.

"Get. Out. I don't want to hear your pleas and sorry. I'm tired. I've had enough of you guys throwing your trash at me! Am I only capable as a trash bin for you!? Get. Out. Leave me alone!" With a snap, Keiko shooed them away.

"I'm sorry....I forgive you all...but....I'm really tired right now....please...give me a break..."

They left as they close her bedroom door.

"Why didn't you said so earlier? Why didn't you ask for help?" They might ask.

"I DID, BUT UNFORTUNATELY YOU GUYS JUST DON'T GET IT!" She would say.

My pranks are my way to ask for help..

I hate this house. Why Tou-san take a long time to go home? Why..? Why me? I may be sounds dramatic but who cares!?
