#Kaidan would know what to say and wouldn't be afraid to say it

Miles also has to be kind of self-absorbed and overly focused on the mission during me2 but also the thought of him making ramen with Kasumi is cute. Making use of the Normandy's new kitchen.
Ramen because, as Kasumi insists, it's hard to mess up. And Kasumi because she's the only one willing to actually intrude upon Miles' solitude between missions due to a combination of nosiness, irreverence and boredom. (And in turn, it's a relief for once to have someone who's not overly impressed by Commander Shepard, so he eases up and lets her see Miles a bit more.)
Thane ends up their taste tester because he also doesn't sleep much. It turns out pretty good. Better than Rupert's, which Kasumi promises not to tell.

WIP Wednesday
I'm not gonna change things up this time teehee so I tag @totally-not-deacon and @wanders-in-stars
Up in the mountains, snow was a near constant part of life. You learned that the hard way when you had to dig your way out of the inn after two days of it, leaving nearly three feet in its wake for you to trudge through.
"I don't understand why we have to make our way up the mountain in this kind of condition. Surely the Greybeards can wait until after thaw...." Nebarra grumbled, and for once Xelzaz agreed with him.
"Perhaps it would be best for us to wait until some of this has melted...." The argonian replied.
Kaidan snorted, pushing past them. "That's not how Skyrim works. At this altitude the snow won't melt ‘til summer. So either we head out now and take our chances, or we wait several months."
Nebarra balked, Lucien letting out an uncomfortable little laugh.
"And something tells me the Greybeards wouldn't appreciate their summons taking that long. We've already dallied several days," Kaidan continued. "But it's not my place to say what we do here." He turned to look at you, nearly waist deep in snow. "Dragonborn, what say you?"
You looked among your friends, noting the unease in their eyes. "I... I will go. Anyone who wants to stay at the inn for now, I think I have spare coin enough left for a week or so. I won't judge anyone for not accompanying me."
"What, and leave you alone to fend off gods know what on that mountain? Are you serious?" Kaidan scoffed. "No, Dragonborn, I'm afraid you're not rid of me that easily."
"Just... don't lead me to an early grave." Nebarra sighed as he stood by your side.
"As nice as curling up near a warm fire sounds, a burden is made lighter by many hands." Inigo placed his hand on your shoulder.
"Yeah! I am coming too! I want to see the Graybeards." Khash grinned.
Both Lucien and Lucifer agreed as well, and you almost wanted to cry, but that sounded ridiculous and you didn't want Nebarra mocking you all the way up the mountain. "I'm glad you're all here." You gave them all the biggest smile you could, feeling the cold already beginning to dry out your lips.
Kaidan made plowing through the snow seem like easy work, but even just following in his footsteps was an arduous task. And the higher you got, the thinner the air became... forcing you all to make frequent stops. Taking shelter under an overhang, you all carved your way into a relatively cozy spot. The sun was starting to get low, and you weren't sure how much farther you had to go to get the High Hrothgar... the last thing you needed was to lose someone over the edge from an easily avoidable stumble. So, you decided to make a crude shelter, piling up the snow you’d dug out to give you some semblance of a wall as you all huddled together around the small fire you’d made.
It was during second watch that you'd heard it; The muffled shuffling of heavy feet outside.

TESSDE AU (+ Lucia:]) (Lucia part 16)
Kaidan, Taliesin, Inigo, Lyra, and Davidicus all rush in behind Allora, only Davidicus and Lyra recoiling at the sight of their “sister” being hissed and snarled at by a draconic version of Allora.
Lyra: Silvia? What on Nirn are you doing here- how did you get in?
Silvia: *coos, looking far more human than Lucia's vision to Lyra and Davidicus, giving them an apologetic smile* Well, I'd had the urge to come say hello! Can't your dearest Silvia come by once in a while when she's lonely?
Davidicus: *grimaces* Not unannounced, you may not. What were you doing with Lucia?
Silvia: *places a hand to her chest, looking “hurt”* Why, nothing at all! I merely saw her and thought to say hello, and to ask who's she was! I was hurt to think you never mentioned another child, but I see now I was incorrect to assume, haha!
Allora: *sneers, backing away with Lucia to give her to Taliesin* Yeah, that's totally why she was sending me panick messages in fear.
Silvia: Panick messages? I'm afraid I don't quite understand!
Allora: Yeah, and you don't deserve to know. All I know is that she called for me because of you, so I'm only going to ask once: why shouldn't I kill you?
Davidicus: Now, just a moment-
Kaidan: Stuff it. Lucia, you a'right?
Lucia: *trembling as she clings to Taliesin, unable to answer, heart in her throat*
Taliesin: *Angry Father Mode, curling her protectively from view* Cherub, say the word. I will remove these two- if only you save us a portion to maim.
Allora: Gladly.
Lyra: Please- wait. Silvia is certainly not the easiest person to get along with-
Silvia: I'm hurt, dear sister!
Lyra: *narrows her eyes* …But I request any killing to not happen.
Allora: *turns her head to stare dead in to Lyra's eyes, pupils now slits* Look at her. Look at the state she's in. If you want me to believe she didn't do anything to my child, you have about five seconds to tell me. And I mean it.
Lyra: *frowns, looking worriedly at Lucia, who's still shuddering in Taliesin's arms* …
Allora: That's what I thought.
Lucien: *rushes in, bewildered at the state of the door, then his partner, Lucia, and then Silvia; narrowing his eyes at the sight of her* What on Nirn is going on?!
Silvia: *grins wide, too wide in Lucia's vision, chuckling* Well if it isn't the father of the hour! Lucien! You went and had a child and you didn't tell me~? I'm hurt!
Lucien: *out right glaring, moving to stand next to Allora* How did you get in here? Reberio should have stopped you at the gate or notified us.
Silvia: Oh, that Reberio! Getting up there in age, isn't he? Perhaps it's best to let him go at this point- who knows what task he might not accomplish next?
Allora: I know which one you aren't: breathing. Hold still. *flexes her claws*
Silvia: *laughs* And this is who you chose to be the mother of your child? Temper, temper, dear. I've been known to do a great many deal of things. Wouldn't want to hurt you now, would we?
Allora: Taliesin. Get them out of here.
Taliesin: *passes Lucia to Inigo, who runs out immediately, both Kaidan and Taliesin grappling Lyra and Davidicus* Let's go. Now. Do not argue.
Lyra: I-
Davidicus: Lucien-
Lucien: Go. *Sparks flare on his fingertips, staring down Silvia* I've always wanted to do this.
Allora: *grins* Happy to help.
Silvia: Ooh, time for the training wheels to come off then, hm? *Her grin grows impossibly wide, a laugh echoing from the depths of her throat and chest as if she were only built to hold the sound* Very well. Show me what you can do.

No Cure for The Plague (1)
Lucien: So Idgrod wants us to give a letter to this 'Danica Pure-Spring'. The trip from Morthal to Whiterun was surprisingly short!
Kaidan: That's because we cut through the Labyrinthian. It would have taken days longer if we'd decided to go around the mountain.
Inigo: I am going to stink of troll for weeks..
Morana and Xelzaz: *excitedly writing/talking about the troll fat they had gotten*
Morana: I'm going to make Two-Handed potions for Kaidan. He would like that, right?
Xelzaz: It would definitely be beneficial. I'm planning on making some Frenzy poisons.
Morana: I should do Dragon's Tongue with it. Fly Amanita would just give the potion frenzy properties.
Xelzaz: Agreed.
Taliesin: If you two are quite done, we have reached Whiterun.
Morana: So rude, Tally. *a little angry face is written in the bottom corner of her newest page*
Taliesin: Yes, yes. Let's just find this priest and go already. It reeks of dog here.
Kaidan: If I remember correctly, the temple's in the Wind District. This way. *holds the door of the Temple open* After you.
Morana: Thank you.
Kaidan: Of course.
Morana: ...? *looking around at all the sick people lying in their beds.* ... *staggering forward, suddenly feeling nauseous* Oh.. This.. this is a healing temple..
Kaidan: Hm? Morana?
Morana: *falling forward* Shit..
Kaidan: Morana! *he runs forward and catches her before she hits the floor, unconscious* Hey! What happened?!
Soldier: *sitting up in bed* Huh? The pain's gone..
Farmer: My fever! It's been cured!
Taliesin: What?!
Lucien: Morana! What happened to her??
Xelzaz: One of you get a healer! We need to lay her down somewhere that isn't the damned floor!
~
Xelzaz: How is she?
Danica: Stable. I don't know what happened. One moment you say she's fine, but now she's taken on.. the same symptoms as all my patients combined. They all say they've been cured.
Kaidan: How is that possible?
Danica: I'm not sure. Magic is my first guess. I'm going to double check my other patients. You can go in and see her, but be warned that what you see may be the reason she was so insistent on wearing that mask.
Inigo: We understand. Thank you.
~
Morana: *gasps, sitting up quickly in bed* Ow.. Rockjoint..? *reaches up to feel her head, a cold towel falling off of her forehead* Bone Break Fever.. *looks around the room*
Inigo: *Lying asleep sprawled across the foot of the bed, quietly purring*
Lucien: *asleep propped up in a chair, his head bent at a (most likely) uncomfortable angle*
Xelzaz: *sitting with his head down against a table, asleep*
Taliesin: *Leaning against the wall by the door with his eyes closed. He looks relaxed, but is he really asleep?*
Morana: *frowns, looking around at her friends. Night has fallen, and the moonlight illuminates the room* How long was I.. asleep...?
Kaidan: *sitting in a chair next to her bed, his top half laying on the mattress. His hand covers hers gently*
Morana: Shit- *winces, curling in on herself from the pain* Need my potions.. *reaches for where they usually are on her armor, realizes she isn't actually wearing her armor* What?? My mask- I-I'm not wearing my mask-
Kaidan: Mn.. *he shifts, opening his eyes slowly*
Morana: *gasps, raising the blanket so it covers her face*
Kaidan: Morana! You're- what are you doing?
Morana: I-I'm not wearing my mask.
Kaidan: Oh. Er, I-I'm sorry, I should have figured you.. wouldn't want anyone to see. We all.. we were too worried, we came in as soon as Danica told us you were stable.
Morana: So they know?
Kaidan: About what?
Morana: *lowers the blanket, frowning at Kaidan* ... I'm not.. a very attractive person. So many people are afraid of me. *Several scars litter her body, ranging from small cuts on her hands to a large burn on her shoulder and arm, and several heavy flagellation scars on her back. The entire right half of her face is burned.*
Kaidan: You're worried about not being attractive?
Morana: No. Well- yes, but I'm more scared people will see my scars and think different of me.
Kaidan: We don't think different of you. If it helps, I think you're rather.. beautiful.
Morana: Don't lie just to make me feel better.
Kaidan: I'm not! I swear on everything that I am. Your scars tell stories, and while they may be painful ones, it doesn't take away from who you are at all.
Morana: ...
Inigo: Mrrr.. Hm? Morana? *yawns, raising his head to look at her* You are awake! This is very good news. *sits up, kicking the leg of Lucien's chair lightly* Everybody wake up!
Lucien: Wha- WAH! *the chair tilts, and he falls backwards. He grabs the table to try and steady himself*
Xelzaz: Xuth! *the table pulls back, he falls forward and hits his head on his knee* OW! What on earth was that for?!
Taliesin: Haha. That was quite a show.
Xelzaz: Oh shut it.
Morana: Are you guys okay?
Lucien: Quite alright, we.. *blinks, turning his head towards her* ... MORANA!! *jumps out of the chair to stand next to her* Are you alright?! What in the gods' name happened-
Xelzaz: How's your fever?? I tried to give you a cure disease potion but it didn't work-
Inigo: Did you sleep well? You looked very tired, my friend-
Morana: *raising her hand so she could get them to quiet down* I'm hurting a bit too much to write or sign right now, so please bare with me... Um.. *flushes, unfamiliar with the attention* C-Could someone bring me my potions please? The ones in the purple bottles.
Taliesin: Here.
Morana: Thank you.. *she reads the labels on the bottles before drinking two labelled 'Rockjoint' and 'Bone Break Fever'* ... I'll be fine in a few hours.
Inigo: What did you just drink? It smelled very nasty.
Morana: Regular cure disease potions.. don't work on me. I have to make special ones catered to my immune system.
Xelzaz: Alright.. Well now that we know you're okay, would you mind explaining what happened? It frightened us greatly when you suddenly collapsed in the middle of the Temple of Kynareth.
Morana: Kynareth??? Nobody told me it was a Temple of Kynareth.
Kaidan: Why does that matter?
Morana: ... It doesn't. Or- it does matter, but there's a lot to be explained before I can say anymore on that.
Taliesin: We've got all night. And rather eager ears.
Lucien: Are you sure you don't need anything else?
Morana: No, I'll be fine for now.. I suppose I did promise I'd talk about my past.
Kaidan: Only if you feel ready to share, lass. We won't force you.

Get to know me better tag game
Thanks for the tag @mrslyncx! If they're interested, I'm tagging @ashenlavellan and @vorchagirl 😊
youtube
Last song I listened to: Teddy Swims - Lose Control. That song, that man's voice. *chef's kiss* If only Kelly Clarkson would record a version with him - that performance they did together on her show was so good!
Currently reading: The To-Do List by Mike Gayle. I miss my fantasy worlds though, so I'm probably gonna switch to The Last Graduate by Naomi Novik soon.
Currently watching: The Mass Effect Lorecast videos on YouTube. Well, sometimes watching, mostly listening.
Last tv show/ movie: The Marvels. Can I just say that I loved seeing all these kick-ass women in one movie? And Iman Vellani is just a gem. Kamala made me laugh so much. :D
Fave ships: My reintegration into fandom began with Dragon Age and Cullen/fTrevelyan and has further evolved since to include Dorian/mTrevelyan, Alistair/fWarden and Fenris/fHawke. My favorites from Mass Effect are Kaidan/femShep, Thane/femShep, Reyes/fRyder and Jaal/fRyder but now that I've been exposed to more, I and my characters are seeing James Vega and Harry Carlyle in a different light. 😏
Favorite color: Judging by the changes in my interior lately... Soft pink.
Favorite food: I have issues with food. I've always been an incredibly picky eater and even though I'm not afraid anymore to try new things, I never really had a favorite dish. If you asked me what I like to eat? Sandwiches. And potato dishes. 😬
Spicy/sweet/savory? Spicy. I probably wouldn't survive it, but I'd love to do the Hot Ones challenge.
Last thing I googled: "fluff and smut prompts" because I needed a list to post.
Song stuck in my head: I've got two that are currently taking turns driving me nuts: Butter by BTS and Bad Feeling (Oompa Loompa) by Jagwar Twin.

Since she'd met him, Minerva had wondered many times what she'd have done if not for Kaidan. His banter, good humour and his sheer skill in killing her enemies were all good traits to have in a companion, nobody could deny. But what she loved most about him was his complete and utter belief in her, and her abilities, even when she didn't feel it herself.
Especially in the past few days, Minerva had felt a lack of self-confidence that she'd only felt once, in the aftermath of that horrific ritual which led to her becoming estranged from the remnants of her family. She had wondered then if she was doing the right thing, caught in a rut about how she should define as the "right thing".
The right thing for her to do for her family, would've been to stay and continue to be disparaged and abused for the sake of the cultict beliefs they'd forced upon her since birth.
Tumblr media
But the right thing for her, her own head and heart, had been to leave.
It had been the hardest thing to do, to reconcile with herself that it wouldn't be easy but it had to be done. She'd needed to escape the prison that had life had been and that she should've held the same freedom as any other woman in Tamriel.
Kaidan had once asked her if she had any family. Many options had filled her head but the one she settled one had been the truth, that they were far away and weren't on the best of terms. She'd felt a little ungrateful as she'd said it, having just learnt that Kaidan had no family to speak of and that was why he was in Skyrim. He was actively looking for something she'd gladly given up.
Tumblr media
They weren't my family, she told herself now. They stopped being my family the day they decided to never let me speak my mind, the day they tied me down on that altar and decided to destroy whatever good left in me. They tainted me with their dark magic, their impure desires and fooled me into thinking it'd be the right thing for me.
Now, another force, another destiny was being forced onto her.
Tumblr media
It was a moment for contemplation. Was this another outside trying to manipulate her into doing what they wanted, rather than what she wanted?
I need to speak more to the Greybeards, she decided. They need to teach me the full meaning of this title and the full impact on what would happen if I did succeed, or if I failed.
Despite her fears, she knew, deep down that she couldn't not make an attempt to defeat the World Eater. She resented the knowing feeling that she would try her best, or die trying in the attempt.
This was bigger than a mere family argument. This was the entirety of the world at sake here and was she really going to run away just because she was scared?
Kaidan's words filled her mind again, one of the first things he'd ever told her. "Brynjar used to say 'If you're not a little afraid, you're not understanding the situation.'
They were wise words and clearly words that meant a lot to Kaidan if he could quote them so easily. Minerva tried to using the words to teach her about what she was going through.
She was scared, very...which in Brynjar's logic, suggested that she understood how vast the situation she was in.
Tumblr media
It was interesting, how much those words and lining them alongside her own circumstances, that made her feel better. She felt at peace with the fear she felt.
Minerva smiled as she gazed into the flames, still feeling the echo of Kaidan's embrace a few minutes ago. He'd been just as wise when she'd withdrawn from his chest, face messy with tears and eyes red from crying.
"You can't have courage without being afraid" he'd whispered, wiping away her tears with his thumb, the rough calluses feeling like silk to her distress. "Choosing to act in spite of your fear, that's where true courage comes lies, my friend."

"Are you jealous?" "No...Maybe." suggested by @russian-dumpling
pairing: Kaidan Alenko x Rebecca Shepard; set during ME1; word count: 1759
Noveria was cold. There was no doubt about that. It was a planet full of constant snowstorms. Nearly an ice planet.
Just like Hoth, Lieutenant Kaidan Alenko thought, unable to help the Star Wars reference. He glanced up at the thick transparent steel windows above that kept the raging winter storm out and the heat in. At least it was warmer than the Rebel Base…
“Hey, Alenko! You still with us?” Shepard’s voice called from beside him.
He glanced over at his CO noting that Ashley and Garrus had disappeared. “Don't you mean you, ma'am?”
“Oh for crying out loud! Don't ma’am me when we're alone,” she chided, a hand on her hip.
“We're still on the job, Commander.”
“Kaidan, is there a reason you're always so formal?”
“Habit it, ma'am, and it keeps me out of trouble.”
“Trouble? You, Alenko? Never.”
The Lieutenant snorted. “You don't know everything about me, Shepard.”
“Not yet,” the red head smirked with a wink.
***
While waiting to meet up with Gianna Parasini, Shepard unsurprisingly had elected to visit a few of the shops for tech and weapons mods. In truth it was the weapons mods that the Commander was really interested in. She only mentioned the tech mods to entice the Sentinel to tag along. In reality she didn't need to bribe him with anything other than herself.
He knew shortly after the Eden Prime mission that he was in trouble. Romantic entanglements with anyone he served with had always been a no no in his book. Falling for a superior officer was definitely not something he had ever seen himself doing. Yet there it was or rather she was standing outside yet another shop staring at the display in the window.
The Lieutenant was definitely in trouble.
He'd once told her he liked adventurous women. Kaidan would be lying to himself he didn't admit that Shepard fit that description to a tee. And that taste in the opposite sex is what would land him in trouble by the end of their current mission. Especially if the glances she was throwing over her shoulder towards him were any indication of things to come.
And there it was. The flirting grin she'd shoot him when she thought no one was looking. Of course Ashley had caught glimpses of it and teased the fire out of him about it. Despite his misgivings about the feelings he knew he was developing for his CO, Kaidan returned the smile as she motioned for him to join her at the display window. And of course he did.
As the Lieutenant walked over to her, Shepard motioned to a cluster of omni tool mods and one very specific omni tool. His eyes lit up as she casually mentioned, “I can open a line of credit with this store. You know. Get the license for the Normandy’s requisition officer so we can access their inventory anytime we want.”
“Really? Alenko asked excitedly as he looked from the Logic Arrest omni tool to Shepard.
With the amused look on her face he couldn't be sure if she were serious or not. Remembering himself he said, “I shouldn't ask you to use Alliance resources or your Specter status just to get me a new ‘tool.”
“But you didn't ask, Kaidan. I offered,” she corrected as she entered the shop. “Besides they have weapons mods too.”
Alenko cocked an eyebrow as he followed. She was his CO, a fellow officer, a friend. Yet he couldn't help but think she might harbor some feelings beyond all of that for him just as he did for her. Should he say anything? Should he let her make the first move? Should he see how things played out?
He sighed as he watched a salesman approach Shepherd with a broad grin. There were regs against fraternization. They were on a mission to stop a rogue Specter and his synthetic army. There was no place for romance, yet his feelings remained.
In an effort to distract himself, he focused his attention on the Logic Arrest Shepard had pointed out. In truth he did need a new omni tool, especially with the current mission. A part of him however couldn't shake the feeling that if he had said yes just a few minutes ago he'd already have a new ‘tool instead of looking at it in the display.
Kaidan let out a low growl. He should be able to focus on things without his thoughts circling back to Shepard. On a mission, in combat, doing his duties. Those instances were too problematic to allow that. The only acceptable exception was if Shepard was in danger.
But his down time? Sure she was nice to look at, athletic, red hair, nice smile, gorgeous eyes, great personality, honest, compassionate, amazing sense of humor, humble, firm. Anyone would be lucky to be the focus of her attention. Yet in the reflection of the display glass he saw her glancing at him as the salesman went on about various mods for her weapons the other man had were noticed Specter issue.
Apparently her status as a Specter had made the rounds rather quickly. Of course salesman wanted to land a large purchase from her then. Either way the Lieutenant could have sworn he saw the Commander wink at him in the reflection before she turned her attention back to the very friendly salesman.
“I can see the Specters have outfitted their newest agent with the latest weapons. Of course you can never go wrong with modifications,” the blond-haired man said smoothly. “Surely having the best mods on the market would help keep your lovely self safe.
“They certainly wouldn't hurt,” Shepard replied an even tone.
“Well, what is your primary weapon?” the man asked. “Maybe your favorite?”
“Those are two different things,” Shepard smirked with her arms folded across her chest.
“Really? For most customers those are one in the same,” the blond man muttered.
“I'm not most customers,” the Commander assured him confidently.
“I see,” the salesman muttered as he opened his ‘tool, showing the inventory available. “Perhaps something for your assault rifle first. We can't have our first human Specter being mowed down by rogue Geth. Protection is everything especially for a beautiful woman such as yourself.”
Kaidan rolled his eyes at the man's blatant attempt to flirt with the Commander in order to make a sale. Fundamentally the Lieutenant knew why the other man was doing it but that didn't deter the desire to tell the man off for disrespecting his CO. If he was totally honest with himself he had to admit that it wasn't just the man's lack of professionalism that bothered him.
He shifted, resisting the urge to go to Shepard’s aid. If she needed help, she would say so.
“I have plenty of protection already,” Shepard said as she gestured towards him. “My Lieutenant over there is an accomplished soldier and biotic. He's covered my six more times than I can count.”
Kaidan knew he was smirking as he caught her eye in the reflection once again. Whether she had intended to or not she had just padded his ego though he would never admit that. “Biotics will only get you so far,” the salesman muttered, his mood souring much to Alenko's delight.
“Oh but you haven't seen the Lieutenant train with his biotics,” Shepard mused with a big grin. “It's …quite the sight.”
Kaidan knew he was blushing as the salesman said, “I can provide you with top-of-the-line weapons mods. I'm afraid I am not licensed for biotic amps.”
Shepard made a noise of acknowledgement before she said, “You know what? I think I'll take that Logic Arrest in the window…and any mod you have for it.”
“Oh well, what about the weapons mods? Surely you need –“
“I already have the most advanced. Me being a Specter and all. But my Lieutenant needs the best omni tool available,” she insisted as she turned to Kaidan.
“I understand but you are his superior. Doesn't that mean –“
“If you can't sell me what I want, I am sure another shop can,” the Commander interrupted as she walked over to the Lieutenant.
“No. No. I can accommodate that,” the salesman said conceding that his sale to the first human Specter would not be as large as he originally thought.
Kaidan couldn't help the shit-eating grin as the salesman was forced to wait on him instead of Shepard.
***
Half an hour later Kaidan sat on the retaining wall of one of the many reflection pools near the shopping promenade as he fiddled with his new omni tool. They were waiting for Ashley and Garrus to rendezvous with them before taking the next step of their mission. For whatever reason, the Commander had spent her time watching him program his preferences into the new Logic Arrest.
He did his level best to ignore the attention until she said lightly, “Are you jealous?”
The Lieutenant paused in his motions as conflicting emotions demanded his answer one way or another. “No …maybe.”
She crossed her arms as she asked in surprise, “Really, Lieutenant? Of a weapons mod salesman?”
Kaidan knew he was blushing as he glanced at the nearby fountain. Was he that obvious? Was she going to give him a dressing down or just tease the crap out of him? Maybe even enlisting the help of Ashley and Joker?
“Hey, Kaidan?” Shepherds voice call to him as he felt a light pressure on his forearm from her hand. The use of his first caught his attention more than her touch.
He glanced back at her, seeing a tender smile. “I can promise you there is nothing to be jealous of. All my attention is on a certain L2 biotic. You might know him.”
Kaidan smiled as he replied, “Yes ma'am.”
Shepard opened her mouth to say something else when she heard Ashley and Garrus call out to them. She shrugged at him as she turned to greet them but not before she winked at the Lieutenant.
He watched as she walked over to their teammates as he finished setting up his tool. Any doubt he had about being more than comrades-in-arms or friends had evaporated. He was more certain than ever that things between them were more complicated than the mission parameters allowed.
But he didn't care. He was definitely in trouble, but he found himself not giving a damn about that either.
He liked adventurous women, and Shepard was definitely that. And so much more.

OC Interview
Thanks @bardofheartdive and @citadelsushi!  I've been wanting to do this one.  :)
Tagging @maxrev, @practicingproductivity, @not-plaidweave, @thexgrayxlady, and anyone else who wants to do this!
Answering for Nathaly Shepard, circa post-ME2.  She's not one to really open up, so I've answered as if she were talking to herself or someone else she trusts completely.
By FAR my favorite image of her is by @kauriart: https://kauriart.tumblr.com/image/188072982445
But I'm not sure if she'd be cool with me re-posting it, so have a screenshot of exasperated Nathaly (pre-freckle-mod, because all of those are still laying in a giant pile):
Tumblr media
name ➔ Nathaly Zelena Shepard.  Zelena was my grandmother, and Nathaly was my great aunt.  Someone gets tagged with Nathaly every generation, so we were overdue.
are you single ➔ I'm not sure.  I don't feel single, but in strict technical definition, I guess I'm not not single either.
are you happy ➔ I'd like to think I'm getting there. it's been awhile.
are you angry ➔ Yes.  All the time. It's… getting old.  But there's no simple way to move on from things you couldn't control.  Admitting you had no control is almost worse.
are your parents still married ➔ My parents have been married for thirty-five years.
NINE FACTS
birthplace ➔ An Alliance Kodiak, tail number AS7842, en route to Arcturus.  Right between the fire extinguisher and the pressure relief valve if you believe my mother.
hair color ➔ Red.  It's natural.  You'd be shocked how often I'm asked.
eye color ➔ Blue.
birthday ➔ April 11, 2154.
mood ➔ Hell if I know.  I wouldn't turn down a sandwich.
gender ➔ Female
summer or winter ➔ Fuck planets. Fuck seasons.
morning or afternoon ➔ Morning.  Hell, when I was active duty, I got up so early afternoon was basically evening.
EIGHT THINGS ABOUT YOUR LOVE LIFE
are you in love ➔ Yes. Because the universe is a cruel place.
do you believe in love at first sight ➔ I do not.  Like at first sight, sure.  And I'm not talking about lust-- though that happens too.  Sometimes you meet a person and immediately know you'll get along.
who ended your last relationship ➔ It was mutual. Once trust is gone, you don't have a relationship anymore.  All we had was a formal acknowledgement of that fact.
have you ever broken someone’s heart ➔ Yes.  I would've given anything not to.
are you afraid of commitments ➔ Afraid feels too strong. I'm not really compatible with commitment, or putting other people first.  But it doesn’t terrify me.
have you hugged someone within the last week? ➔ {laughs} You know, I have?
have you ever had a secret admirer ➔ Do you know what "secret" means?
have you ever broken your own heart? ➔ More than once.  And more than twice.  Pretty regularly, if we're being honest.
SIX CHOICES
love or lust ➔ Love. Absolutely.  Maybe.  Sex is wonderful and it doesn't hurt as much.  But--- No. Love, definitely.
lemonade or iced tea ➔ Neither tempts me, but if I have to choose, iced tea.
cats or dogs ➔ I've never had a pet. Gut feel says cats, but I'm not familiar with either.
a few best friends or many regular friends ➔ You can't put a price on being understood.  No amount of casual acquaintances fill that void.
wild night out or romantic night in ➔ I've had enough wild nights.  God, I’m old. {sighs}  Make me a drink and let me sleep, and I’m yours forever.
day or night ➔ Day.  Usually.  Night has its charms.
FIVE HAVE YOU EVERS
been caught sneaking out ➔ A lot less frequently than I wasn't caught.
fallen down/up the stairs ➔ I've experienced the occasional localized spatial rearrangement whereby the stairs became proximate to parts of me other than my feet.  It's something quantum, I'm sure.  Commander Shepard isn’t clumsy.
wanted something/someone so badly it hurt? ➔ Sure.  Who hasn't felt that ache? Sometimes feels like I've done nothing for the past year but want things I can't have back.
wanted to disappear ➔ How do you think I wound up at the ass end of the Terminus?  Sometimes the only way to get a moment to yourself is to outright vanish for a little while.
FOUR PREFERENCES
smile or eyes ➔ {glances away and smiles to herself, a little silly} Eyes.
shorter or taller ➔ Not many people are taller, so I can't say I've ever had the pleasure of comparison.
intelligence or attraction ➔ Someone used the term sapiosexual in my presence once and my soul fled my body.  I think by attraction you mean are they hot, but attraction is the sum total of so many things, and the difficult part is that chemistry is different for every person that draws you.
hook-up or relationship ➔ Depends.  You only want relationships with particular people, and if they're not available, a hook-up does just fine.  Better, actually, than a relationship with the wrong person just for the sake of having one.
FAMILY
do you and your family get along ➔ I think sometimes arguing is how we show our love.  Especially between mom and me.  But dad's sometimes worse, because how I live makes him worry, and the way it comes out… I'll take mom's lectures over hurting him like that.
would you say you have a “messed up life” ➔ Yes.  I resent the implication that this is an inherently bad thing, or needs fixing.
have you ever ran away from home ➔ I never really had a home to run away from. Where would I go?  Space?  The Martian planitia?
have you ever gotten kicked out ➔ I sort of got thrown out at eighteen. Thrown directly into the navy, but I was well aware of the alternative.  Hard to blame them, considering.  I was a handful.  Since then? Kicked out of bars, sure.  Got kicked out of a Home Spun once on account of unintentionally shooting up the place.  I'm banned for life.  The duvets of the world miss me desperately.
FRIENDS
do you secretly hate one of your friends ➔ Hate is a strong word.  But sometimes experience binds you more tightly than how much you enjoy someone's company.  Sometimes in a life as weird as the one I've led, it's more important.
do you consider all of your friends good friends ➔ Not all of them.  That said, it's amazing how close the past several years made the those I have left. If I've been lucky in nothing else, I've been lucky in my friends.
who is your best friend ➔ Kaidan.  Before he was anything else, even if he's never anything more again. I don't think I knew what a best friend was before I met him.
who knows everything about you ➔ Kaidan always sees straight through me, and it's damn annoying.  And wonderful, being seen like that.  But mostly annoying.

May As Well Be, Day 25: Disrobed
Tumblr media
Apparently, the concept of trust was not something other species were hesitant to consider. Despite willingly, and repeatedly, traversing the galaxy during wartime to address the concerns of Krogans and Turians had the Asari turning to her small team. Yet they failed to leave important details out of their mission report. The Ardat-Yakshi Monastery on Kallini was a place Tavrien Shepard never hoped to be in again, not even if they survived and it was rebuilt.
It was an empty, dark, place of horrors; footsteps echoed and her heart beat loudly in the silence. Skirmishes here came without warning and against foes so grotesque her mind refused to make the obvious connection between the graceful Asari and the deadly Banshee’s they faced. Her tactics had always left her back somewhat exposed in battle, though her turrets usually held up to the combatants. James drew attention, and used brute strength, Kaidan provided a blanket of support but joined the fray in a way she was surprised at. He’d learned much in their time apart.
In her exhaustion, she’d gotten sloppy and stopped worrying about her six, but close proximity to walls didn’t seem to matter to the Banshee who managed to close the distance on her catching her unaware. Sharp, elongated claws managed to slice through her light armor and the webbing beneath, but she hadn’t had a chance to worry about it until now. When the fight ended and the others were scouting the area, looking for helpful clues, more ammo, anything to point the way.
She slid to the floor, using the nearby wall as support as her shaky legs wobbled, threatening to give out on her. Gloves hit the ground first before she could gingerly assess the damage to her shoulder blade. The wound streaked across in a jagged arc from the curve of her next to the shoulder. Her fingers came away bloody and she cursed. She methodically began to remove the bits of armor she needed to gain access to the area.
“Shepard, what’s wrong?”
“Um, not much...you?”
Kaidan gave her a steely look, frowning down at her, eyebrows drawn in concern, “I can see that. Do you need help?”
A blush crept up her face as she considered the implications of allowing him to touch her again. So far they’d resumed a friendly working relationship, nothing like what they had before, but she respected his need for time and didn’t make any demands of him. She continued to pull bits of armor off, and unzipped the top portion of her under-armor, then struggled to pull her arm out of the sleeve. Pain shot up her neck forcing her to pause her movement, Kaidan made a hum of disapproval as he watched her in silence.
“Alright,” she huffed, “Kaidan, would you please help me patch this up until we get back to the ship.”
He shook his head, but lowered himself to her level, and gently took hold of the collar of her under-armor. "I'll slide this off, you pull your arm through, ok?"
Nodding mutely, she clamped her jaw shut in preparation for the pain. His voice was calm, but his hands shook slightly as he prodded at her exposed shoulder, the only sign of his potential nervousness. He examined, cleaned, performed his duty as field medic with precision then muttered, "Why were you doing this alone? You know you shouldn't sit here exposed like this."
"Well," the considered her words carefully, hoping what she had to say wouldn't cause him upset, "after I woke up, I didn't really have anyone I trusted to see me vulnerable." He paused in his ministrations for a beat, calloused fingertips grazing across her clavicle, before continuing his work. She trembled at the small touch but moved on as if the action didn't affect her, "I was afraid to look vulnerable, like I had to depend on them for anything. So I learned to do a lot on my own, I got pretty good at most things. Then when I finally felt comfortable, the others assumed I was too independent to offer help." She shrugged with the opposite shoulder, "It's become habit I guess."
His voice was gruff when he finally responded, "I'm sorry, Tavrien. I can't imagine what it was like for you." He held out the sleeve of her under-armor indicating she could get her gear back on. Kaidan cleared his throat and stood offering her a hand up, "You aren't with them anymore, next time please get me. I've got your six."
"Thank you, Kaidan."
"This needs to get looked at on the Normandy, but it will do for now."

Day 2. Prompt: Who could ever love you?
Featuring my modern AU Corinne Shepard and Kaidan Alenko. Warnings: douche bag ex, mentions of trauma, I played fast and loose with UCMJ regs but it's an AU so hey! I can.
Corinne nailed the punching bag as the conversation flowed around her.  She was used to the loud crashes and curses of the gym. It didn't break her concentration but then she heard a voice from her past.  One she never wanted to hear again.
“Well, well.  Look at what I find here.  Surrounded by men, again.”  The insinuation was clear.  Shepard held Grunt back with a gentle hand on his arm.  Vega looked ready to tear the guy's head off, but he knew enough to keep his temper in check.
“What the fuck do you want with me?  I thought that night in the hospital would've been enough of a warning to leave me the hell alone.”  Shepard snarled.
“Heard you got out of the military.”
“Heard you got dishonorably kicked out.”  She saw the subtle twitch in his jaw at her smartass remark.  Corinne didn't give a shit. Not after what that jackass did.
“Your fault.”
“Mine!?” Venom dripped from her voice as she took a step towards him.  “You're the one who did what you did.” He smirked, as if he found a weakness.  The door jingles open and Wrex held up a hand to the ones who came in.
“Oh what's the matter?  Can't even say it?” Red flashed in front of her face.  She clenched her fists and struggled to contain the temper.  Kaidan read the room and sent Tanya into the office with Wrex's youngest, Mordin.  The two kids got along well. Kaidan came out of the office to hear Shepard's outburst.
“Oh I'm not afraid.  I lived through that special hell until I got special permission to transfer.  Not everyday I have to wear the shame of my commanding officer knowing what my tits look like.”  She crossed her arms as he smirked. “But, if I remember right. That same commanding officer set you up for that UCMJ action didn't he?  Stripped you of a couple of ranks didn't it?” She tilted her head.
“Oh yeah.  And I got the chance to send your ass to the hospital.”  He stepped up to the ring.
“You deserved it.”
“I deserved it?  You cheated on me and got pissy when I called it quits.  You threatened me and tried to extort me. I lived with the shame of having my nudes distributed to the entire recall roster!”  Shepard kept her voice stable but it was a trial. The memory was enough to unnerve her and bring her right back to that moment.  She'd felt violated and was grateful almost the entire unit had her back. They'd called out the scumbag and the senior NCOs were pissed.  Their wives were pissed on Shepard's behalf, and they'd reached out to her. That had been rare. She didn't usually have much to do with the wives, she didn't have much in common with them.  They'd rallied behind him and jerk face found a chilly reception at different areas on base.
“Well, I told you I was going to do it.”  Corinne's shoulders went still.
“You will never get it.  You're scum, worse than scum.  Pond scum can still serve a purpose.”  She snapped. “You'll die alone, still trapped in what you think of is the good old days.”
“And what?  You'll die happily married?  Who could ever love such a cold fish as you?”  Vega stepped forward along with Grunt. But it was the hand on his shoulder that got scumbag's attention.  He turned and was met with a fist hovering just above his nose. He flinched and stumbled back.
“Get out.”  Kaidan reached down and grabbed his collar.  “And don't come back.”
“And just who are you to tell me what I can and can't do?”  Wrex came out of the office and stood behind Kaidan.
“Because I told him he could.  Come around my gym and cause trouble again and we'll call the cops.”
“Oh and you'll love dealing with them.  The chief is Anderson.”  Shepard waved at him as he glared at her.  Kaidan lifted him and literally tossed him out of the gym, dragging him across the gym floor to do it.
“Ass.”  Shepard breathed a shaky breath before she gave Grunt a small smile.  “Just need a minute.” She saw Kaidan's shadow on the ring and thought about how to explain it.  He simply tugged her up and in for a hug. It nearly broke her calm facade.
“How did you not kill him for what he did?”
“It wouldn't have erased what he did.  My CO did give me an opportunity for some revenge.  I wasn't joking when I said I put him in the hospital.  While I can't usually approve of revenge, I admit it was satisfying.  And I couldn't do much since the UCMJ would've punished me too. But my lawyer was too good to let that happen, I got off with a minor infraction.”  Kaidan sighed and nodded. The rules were a bit old school. “Pretty sure my lawyer had a field day in that courtroom. He chewed them all up and down about consent, distribution, and even managed to tack on a ‘what if a minor saw this?’ spiel to the whole thing.”  She chuckled even as the tears leaked out.
“I left before I found out what happened to him.  Got a compassionate reassignment. This was the first time in almost five years that I've seen him.  Didn't think it would bring me back to the morning after it happened.” That wasn't a memory she enjoyed revisiting.
“Well, he is a liar and lower than dirt.”  Kaidan told her as she curled her fingers at his sides.  Corinne Shepard rarely needed a shoulder, she was tough as nails and could deal with almost anything with snark.  Seeing her this vulnerable hit something in him and he didn't like it. “I wish I could bring him back and hit him.”  Shepard laughed.
“I appreciate the thought.”
“I'm serious Shepard.”  Her lips trembled from the laughter inside.
“I believe you.  If he comes around again I'll let you be my knight in shining armor, deal?”  Shepard grinned as she kissed his cheek. He nodded. A loud sniffle from behind them broke through the tender moment.
“What!?”  Grunt yelled as Vega elbowed him.  “That's so beautiful.”
Shepard buried her face in Kaidan's shoulder and mumbled something.  “What'd she say?” Grunt asked.
“I said I'm gonna kick your ass kid!”  Shepard told him. She stepped back and gave Kaidan a rare soft smile.  His heart kicked up a notch before she whirled on her heel and marched over to Grunt to poke his ribs.
Who could ever love her indeed?  That thought didn't scare him like it usually did.  Instead it brought up ideas that had no business being in his head.  Kaidan shook his head quickly and smiled as he watched Shepard wipe the floor with Grunt in training.

TESSDE AU (+ Taliesin) Continuation from this
Allora: *hums as she finishes checking her bag for all her supplies, stowing it on her waist and thigh again and adjusting her newly acquired Thieves Guild gear- including the hood- and smiles at the Thieves Guild members watching her like a hawk* Thanks for the new clothes! They're pretty comfy. Hopefully no one gets the idea to try and steal them off of me again. Who knows what would happen~? Brynjolf: *sitting off to the side, covered in bruises, a burn on his right hand, a broken left wrist, and a split lip as he's tended to by Rune* ... Allora: So! I'm afraid I'm not so well versed in your trade. Mind letting me know the idiots who tried to buy me? Vex: We're not telling you shit. You should honestly be dead for what you did to Brynjolf-! Brynjolf: Easy, lass. Don't get her started again. We got lucky when we caught her off guard. Allora: Aw! He's learning. *gives a fake giggle, holding her head up on the table with a wide smile* The rest of you should too, if you know what's good for you! Sapphire: *rolls her eyes* Yeah, I bet. Look, you don't scare us, so cut the crap. Allora: *pouts* Oh nyo, I'm nyot scawwy to da big bad thieves? Whatever will I do~? Thrynn: *sneers* Mocking us isn't helping get you any answers. Allora: Being nice didn't stop people from trying to murder me, or prevent you from kidnapping me for gold. Piss off. *flips him off* I'd suggest you hurry up before my guards come. I won't be able to stop them. They're quite bloodthirsty. *grins wide* Delvin: *having been silently watching the entire time, noting the smallest trembling in her hands that she's been actively covering up by moving them around a lot* ...They didn't give us a name. Vex: Delvin! Delvin: Hush. She's an important person, and the people said to make sure she's unharmed. We can't do anything; our hands are tied. They failed to alert us what she could do, so they'll be charged regardless. Allora: *sits up straight, recognizing him as a leader of this group* Finally, someone with sense. My name is Allora White, pleasure to meet you. Delvin: Delvin Mallory. Those people who tried to buy you- they didn't have much of a name. Just asked for the Dragonborn, and well. You're the only one we've heard about. Allora: Any descriptions? Pitch in voice, notable ticks, specifications when asking for me other than to not be harmed? Delvin: One female and two men. The men didn't say anything, just stood there. The woman in particular was looking for you. She also made mention of one of the men that follow you around- big one with a tattoo? Allora: Kaidan... Delvin: That's the one. Said he'd come running to find you once she had you. Don't know what love triangle yer in missy, but I think you'll be all right. Allora: ...How much did she pay you? Delvin: A whoppin' one thousand gold. Pretty price on yer head there, lass. Allora: *reaches into her satchel and tosses a bag of gold onto the table* Two thousand, and you keep me informed on when that woman comes back. And you don't tell her anything about Kaidan. Delvin: *arches a brow, looking at the bag. Nods to Tonilia to grab it and look through it* Deal. Pleasure doing business with you. You sure you don't want this line of work? Seems you'd fit in well enough. Allora: *lets out a laugh as she stands from her seat* Oh I'm far too loud. And I'm a good girl. *throws them a smile as she turns away* I'm off to go find my boys. I'll do my best to keep them off your trail, so long as you keep your end of the deal. Wouldn't want your pretty home in ruins, now would we? Delvin: Rune, lead her outside through the back door. *watches them leave, speaking quietly towards Brynjolf* Damn shame she won't come join us, ey? Brynjolf: *sighing as Rune pulls away from fixing a splint over his wrist to race after Allora* Aye. Tried once before. She's firm in her decisions- and her body. Delvin: *shakes his head as he turns away* You can think of nothing else, can you?

Have some more from Destiny Waits for No One
Up in the mountains, snow was a near constant part of life. You learned that the hard way when you had to dig your way out of the inn after two days of it leaving nearly three feet in its wake for you to trudge through.
At this altitude the snow won't melt until summer.

-15 Years Ago (3)-
Kaidan: *knocking on the door of Merlyn's home* Merlyn! Me and the twins are gonna train together! Do you wanna come with us?
Saviren: *answering the door* Huh? And who the hell are you?
Kaidan: Er, Kaidan, sir. Who are you?
Saviren: I'm that little brat's father. How do you know of her?
Kaidan: I broke her lute on accident a couple of weeks ago. We play together outside sometimes now.
Saviren: I see. And when exactly does she come outside to play?
Kaidan: Um.. Around midday?
Saviren: ... I'm afraid she won't be able to play with you anymore.
Kaidan: Huh? But-
Saviren: *slamming the door in Kaidan's face* MERLYN! Get your sorry ass out of that room right this instant!
Merlyn: F-Father? What-
Saviren: Don't you say a fucking word! Why are the village kids saying you've been playing with them?! I told you that you are forbidden from leaving this house! Ever!
Merlyn: *trembling* I-I'm sorry father! I didn't m-mean-
Saviren: Quit the fucking stuttering! On top of that, the little shit said you had a lute! After I've told you thousands of times that I won't hear that obnoxious noise anymore!
*the sound of a slap can be heard from outside*
Kaidan: Merlyn! *he runs back down the road towards Jorrvaskr* Brynjar! Kodlak! Merlyn's in trouble!
Kodlak: Slow down, lad. What's happened?
Kaidan: I just wanted to ask her to play with me and the others, but her father answered the door. He- He started asking all these questions about her coming outside and then he shut the door and I could hear him yelling at her. It sounded like he was hurting her!
Vilkas: You WHAT?! Kodlak, you have to help her, please!
Kodlak: Alright, everybody stay calm. I'll gather some of the men and get them down there with us. Everything will be alright.
Kaidan: *watching the Companions gather their weapons and leave the mead hall* ... Is it my fault she's hurt?
Brynjar: *patting his head* No, lad, it's not. We'll figure this out, just stay here.
Farkas: ... We should go, too.
Vilkas: They told us to stay put.
Kaidan: But Merlyn's not gonna be able to talk to any of the Companions! She only talks to us!
Vilkas: ...
Farkas: Kaidan, you didn't know about her father, did you?
Kaidan: No! If I had known, then I wouldn't have gone to her house! Or I would have, if only to take her away from there!
Vilkas: He's always been like that. Some sort of noble, so the guards won't touch him. Don't think anyone's seen him in years, though. It was only ever his wife, Glenna.
Farkas: .. I'm going after them.
Vilkas: Farkas!
Farkas: You can sit here and follow the rules all you want, Vilkas, but I'm going to protect my friend!
Kaidan: I'm going too!
Vilkas: Oh for the love of- Wait up!
~
Kodlak: Break the door down if you must.
Brynjar: *swinging his axe at the door handle* ... I think I got it.
Kodlak: Steady yourselves. I can smell blood.
Brynjar: The girl's?
Kodlak: Yes. And another's, it's.. *a woman lies dead on the floor near the door* Glenna!
Brynjar: Gods, what happened?
Kaidan: Brynjar!
Brynjar: Kaidan? Stay back, boy!
Farkas: Merlyn! *running inside*
Vilkas: Didn't you just hear him say stay back?!
Kaidan: Where is she? Merlyn! *he runs through the house, checking every room* Merlyn? Where did you go?
Farkas: Kaidan.. *kneels next to a lute he found under Merlyn's bed* She never leaves without her lute..
Kaidan: She has to be here!
Kodlak: Boys, get out of there!
Brynjar: Kodlak, what if..
Kodlak: Ask the guards if they saw Saviren leave the city, and if there was anything strange about him.
Skjor: They said he left with a big sack on his back.
Kodlak: Send out search parties. He can't have gone far.
Skjor: Kodlak, if he killed his wife, he'll kill the girl. If he hasn't already.
Kodlak: I'd suggest you be quiet before-
Kaidan: She's not dead! There's no way! She was fine until I came!
Brynjar: Don't say it like that, Kaidan.
Kaidan: But it's true! If I hadn't tried to see her she would have been fine! She has to be okay!
Brynjar: *grabbing his shoulders* You are not to blame for this, y'hear? Her father is a horrible man and will get the pain he deserves. Go back to Jorrvaskr with the twins and try to calm down. We'll find her.
Farkas: *holding Merlyn's lute* Kodlak?
Kodlak: Listen to him, you three. Run on home, we'll be back soon.
Vilkas: Come on. *leading Kaidan and Farkas back to the mead hall*
Brynjar: ... I'm of a mind with Skjor. A search may be useless at this point.
Kodlak: We still have to try.
Brynjar: I never said we shouldn't.
Kaidan: *trying to hum the same tune Merlyn did*
