my friend asked me why i don’t write series more often since she likes the lengthy plots. isn’t it obvious? i lose interest, and everyone else does too :x
(i’ll most likely finish the naoya one though since it’s been rotting in my brain for a year almost :p)

You're Beautiful
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mizu x Fem!Reader CW: N/A WC: 1.4k+ A/N: Inspired by the "You're Beautiful" scene from Princess Mononoke. Also uses he/him pronouns throughout the majority of this. Eventually switches over to she/her.
It started with a legend, the legend about someone having the eyes of the purest of blue. So blue that they looked like diamonds, stark like the sky, and cold as ice. Piercing that whenever they glanced your way, it was like icicles being thrown from their eyes and into the hearts of those who dared glance upon them. That their eyes looked like the onryo's. How they looked so full of hate and vengeance. So much hate could be held within their eyes that even those who dare oppose them, were struck down right where they were. There was no such thing as mercy for these demons. These monsters. Or so I thought.
"They say that this man has the eyes of a demon, that he had to wear something to cover them up," a man from my village laughed with the others.
"Did he kill anyone with just one glance?"
"He almost did, but we chased him out before anything major could happen. Thankfully, there was no harm today. But that doesn't mean there won't be any next time."
"I heard he's camping at the outskirts of the village," another man chimed in.
"Maybe we can jump him in the middle of the night. Slit his throat and let him bleed out. The world is better off without the likes of him."
Hearing this made me wonder what was so bad about this man. They were describing what he looked like, but did he do anything wrong? To me, there was no reason to want to kill him. If he was simply just passing through, let him pass through. There will be more issues with him dead than if they just let him live. Or maybe they wanted to let him die. Maybe they wanted to kill him solely because of who he is. I had to put a stop to that. Or at least see who this guy is before I make any assumptions.
Grabbing a few of my things, I walked out of the backside of the village, towards the outskirts of where we were. It was a bit of a walk since our village outskirts were well into the woods. This guy might have walked to the outskirts or has walked further past it. Either way, I was going to find him. I shouldn't have left when it was dark, but if I left when it was light out, I would have been caught and returned back to my parents. Even then, I wanted to get out of there. I wanted to live my own life and not be told how to live it.
Reaching past the outskirts and out of the woods, I was met with a marvelous sight. The coast. The moon light reflected off the dark water and it appeared to be glowing almost. The water looked so calm and as I walked towards the edge of the cliff, I heard a twig snap behind me. Quickly turning, I found someone walking out of the woods and into the clearing. They had a large hat on, navy blue cloak, a scarf tied around their neck, and their head was tilted downwards. Tilting my head to the side, was this the onryo they were talking about? Didn't seem like he was one to me. Slowly lifting his head, there were orange tinted glasses on his face. Squinting slightly, I saw it. The eye shape. They were round. They weren't typical for a Japanese person.
"Are you here to kill me?" he asked, placing his hand on the hilt of his sword.
I raised my hands, showing I was defenseless.
"I am not."
"Were you followed?"
"No."
He turned and scanned the woods for a second before turning to face me once more.
"What are you doing out here?"
"My village talked about this man. About how he could kill someone with just one look from his eyes. Eyes that looked like ice. The purest of blues."
The man was silent. A small gust of wind brushed past us, making his cloak flap in the wind slightly.
"Go home," he said before he turned away, about to walk back into the woods.
"Please," I rushed towards him. "I need to know if you're that--"
I stopped abruptly as he pulled out his sword, the blade nearly a few inches from my nose.
"Go home," he said in a hushed whisper. "Or I will send you home."
"I just want to talk."
"Why?" he glared at me.
Even if I couldn't see his eye color, I could sense this was the man they were talking about. About having blue eyes like an onryo.
"I want to know if those rumors were true."
"True about what?"
"If you do have blue eyes. The eyes of an onryo."
Before I knew it, I was laying on the ground, the tip of the blade against my throat. The man was kneeling beside me, his hand tightly wrapped around the hilt. The lip of the hat was covering his eyes, but it wasn't like I could see his true eye color. The glasses were hiding them.
"Never call me that again," he said every word with venom. "Or else you will be going back to your village dead."
"They'll come and find you if you do that."
"Or, maybe I can kill you here and let your body rot until nothing but your bones are left."
"You wouldn't."
The tip of the blade sunk an inch deeper, still not drawing blood, "Try me."
"Please, I just want to see."
He sighed. Reaching up, he pushed his hat back to where the string was around his neck. Slowly raising his hand, he grabbed his glasses and removed them. Hidden underneath that orange tint were the brightest of blue I have ever seen. They were pure, too. The most pure I have ever witnessed. They were stark and piercing like the ice. It was amazing to see such a pretty color like that. Not only that, this man, he was handsome. But as I looked closer, there was something different about him. He wasn't a man at all, was he?
"You're not a man, are you?"
"How do you know?"
"I can just tell. The forced deeper voice, the shape of your face, how delicate it looks while also being sharp. Your topknot is not sitting confidently on the top of your head like other men. Not to mention when you put your hair up, you deliberately leave the sides long to act as sideburns. Because if you don't, you'll be found out."
"And what if I am a woman? It doesn't change a thing about me. I'm still an onryo," she sneered.
"So what if you are?"
"What if I'm what?"
"What if you are an onryo? They're right. You do have eyes that look like they can pierce through skin. There is emptiness in them. A rage I have never seen before."
I let out a small laugh. This next move might make or break me here. It will determine if this person lets me go with my life.
"You really are an onryo."
The blade pushed deeper to where I felt it penetrate skin, some blood tricking down my neck.
"Enough. Speak anymore about that and I will cut your throat and leave you here."
"But," I said.
The harshness in her eyes started to fade slightly as she waited to listen to the next words I say.
"They're beautiful. You're beautiful."
The hand around the hilt loosened, as well as the pressure. There was a glimmer of hope in her eyes. Like she was finally being understood by someone. Someone she never knew and will most likely never see again, giving her a compliment she probably never received in her life. If I was going to be the first, I was going to be the last.
"I-I--uhm," she shook her head. "Don't think you can try and win me over on this."
"I'm being serious."
"Y-You're not just saying that to get out of this situation?"
"No," I said. "I am speaking the truth. Your eyes are beautiful. You're beautiful."
She pulled back the sword and stood up, stretching her hand out so I could take it. Grabbing it, she pulled me onto my feet.
"T-Thanks," she said, putting her glasses and hat back on.
"What's your name?"
"Mizu," she said.
"Y/N," I said. "And your name is beautiful, too."
A small smile appeared and disappeared as quickly as it came.
"I-I must go now."
"Will you return?" I asked.
"Why?"
"I want to get to know you, Mizu."
"You're better off without knowing who I am," she said and started to walk back into the woods.
"But will I see you again?"
She stopped, her cloak flapping in the wind once more, "I highly doubt it. But it's best you forget about me."
I shook my head, "Who could forget those eyes of yours? Some may say they're empty and full of anger, but I see beauty behind them."
She stood there for a few seconds before she walked off.
"Be safe, Mizu," I called after her.
There was nothing from her, but I stood there, watching her disappear into the shadows of the woods.

“Ready!”
Bakugo was frozen on the inside, would be frozen on the spot if the Director didn’t clear her throat, smiling knowingly at him and then down at you. “Be good for Mr. Bakugo, Puppy... don’t forget your check-in with Hana next week, okay?”
“Okay!” You said again, your voice a cheery octave higher than normal... if you were nervous, you weren’t showing it. Your floppy little ears bounced as you walked hand in hand with Bakugo back to Kirishima’s waiting car, your fluffy tail swishing behind you quicker as you noticed him. “Red!”
“Heya Pup,” Kirishima greeted, stepping out of the car and walking around to open the trunk where your bag was loaded, Bakugo opening the back door for you. “Ready to head home?”
Home. You didn’t know why that word struck you so suddenly, your tail stopping its movement as you looked up at Kirishima and Bakugo... you nodded.
“It’s gonna be okay, Pup,” Kirishima comforted you, a large hand on your shoulder with a gentle pat as he helped you into the car. “Being nervous and getting used to something new can be scary, but you like Bakugo, right?” You nodded... “and you know me and TetsuTetsu are close by, too, and you’ll still have everyone here at the facility to support you.” You just nodded, giving a small, tight smile as you slip into the back seat, Kirishima helping to buckle you in as he and Bakugo get into the front seat. Kirishima smiles at you in the rearview, watching your stick your face out of the window as the wind whips through your hair and cools your face as he drives away. Bakugo watches the way your eyes close in the sideview mirror, a soft look on his face as he sees the way your nose twitches as you sniff and look around the fresh, new scents of the rural area you’re driving through, and then the scents and sounds of the city as you get closer to his apartment. “We’re here!” Kirishima finally says, pulling up to the front of Bakugo’s building, giving Bakugo a quick look that he answers by shaking his head. Kirishima just smiles and pops the trunk as Bakugo opens your door, Kirishima bidding you a quick goodbye and promising to stop by with TetsuTetsu soon after you’re settled in, Bakugo reaching out his hand to take yours again, finding out from earlier it’s something that makes you feel more secure when you’re nervous.
You happily take his hand, his other occupied by your bag of items as he leads you through the doors into the lobby of his building. It’s high-security, sleek, modern, dark marble and low lighting... the peak of single Hero luxury... he couldn’t help but wonder if you liked it or not.
You took the elevator up to the top of the high-rise, Bakugo having an entire half-floor to himself that allowed for as much space and luxury amenities someone like him could need. He entered his door pin, opening the door with a melodic chime as he ushered you inside, slipping his sneakers off as he smiled softly, watching you slip out of your shoes, too. Bakugo gave you a soft, encouraging smile with a motion to continue in... your eyes wide as you slowly walked around his space. A wide-open space with large balcony windows... it looks like there was a cozy space for you to relax outside if you wanted to... the mixture of sleek modern and traditional Japanese motifs was something you had never seen before, but it fit together well. You walked up, slowly touching the shoji wall you had never encountered before, the soft padding sound of your feet as you walked across the sleek, dark laminate flooring.
“Want to go see your room?” Bakugo asked softly, and you turned with a slight smile on your face and nodded, opting to follow behind him quietly as he leads you to his cleaned out office... the spare room was similar in style to the rest of the house, a mixture of sleek modern and traditional, everything was cleared out, and the pull-out bed was setup with soft, freshly washed bedding. “I was thinking tomorrow we can go shopping and pick out some things you need, and you can choose things to decorate and make the space more comfortable for you, too... if you want...” Bakugo’s voice trailed off softly as he looked down at you, and you only nodded, a happy smile on your face as you looked up at him.
“T-That sounds wonderful, thank you... I can... I can clean, or help somehow to pay you back-” Bakugo cut you off immediately.
“No,” he said sternly, but with a soft undertone. “This isn’t something you need to pay me back for, this is me welcoming you into this house, and wanting to give you the right to your own space... no strings attached...” he watched as you marinated on his words before he offered... “want some dinner, Pup?”
You couldn’t help the way you perked up at the idea of food, and Bakugo noticed. He smiled, allowing you a moment to settle with your things and saying you can join him in the kitchen when you’re done. You nodded, pulling out the little bit of clothing and the comfort blanket you’ve had since you were a wee little toddler, setting it up on the bed to put your smell there against the mild, fresh scent of the detergent. You took your folded clothes and set them on one of the empty shelves... you wandered out, the enticing scent of aromatics bringing you closer to the kitchen. Bakugo had already caught you peeking out of your room, opting to not startle you as you decided to come closer and observe him, until you were right beside him and he glanced down at you.
“Do you have any type of food you like, or dislike?” Bakugo asked, and your nose scrunched up.
“Don’t like fish... or seafood... any type, blegh...” Bakugo couldn’t help but shake his head at the little disgusted face you pulled, but nodded, noting that he’d make you something else on the days he opted for a seafood dish. “Everything else okay, spicy is good...” Bakugo puffed up with pride at that last statement, happy he didn’t have to totally give up on his favorite flavor profiles.
“Spicy it is, you want to try some Mapo Tofu (*麻婆豆腐)?” Bakugo asked, arching a brow as he glanced back down at you.
“Never had, but smells good... sure!” You said, and Bakugo couldn’t help but melt over the way your fluffy tail wagged slowly behind you as you watched him chop, slice and stir everything.
“You want to help, hm?” Bakugo asked and you looked up at him with big eyes, wide with excitement.
You nodded excitedly, almost bouncing on the balls of your feet. “R-Really? Yes, please!” Bakugo reached back with a leg, almost effortlessly as he scooted a stool closer for you to stand on, handing you a long handled wooden spoon. “Stir this slowly, keep the sauce moving... we don’t want it to burn, okay?” You couldn’t hold back your excitement as you nodded again, your eyes laser-focused on the simmering sauce as you made a slow, circular stirring motion, watching each time a bit of the sauce stuck to the bottom and you had to scrape and stir some more. Bakugo admired the way you fearlessly went into doing something new... and if you enjoyed cooking this much, he would welcome you into his kitchen and show you everything.
Bakugo was cubing the tofu and watching over you as he felt a nervous, but happy energy bubbling in his stomach... he was happy with how easy you both fell into a little routine in the kitchen, finding common ground to get comfortable together with each other in a new situation. You helped Bakugo with the rest of the dish, him opting to do all the knifework, promising he would get you some practice knives that wouldn’t cut you for you to practice with him later. You both plated your food, and walked over to the living room, him on the couch as you opted to sit, kneeling in front of the coffee table as your nose sniffed at the delicious food, the aroma settling into you as you relaxed.
Bakugo clicked on the television, and glanced down at you, taking a tiny lick of the spicy sauce. “Have any favorite things you like to watch, Pup? A movie or a type of show?” He watched as you thought for a moment, before shrugging.
“I never watched movies or tv much... TetsuTetsu would drag me along to movie nights but I always fell asleep... uhm, the last movie we watched I remember looking nice, and wanted to finish it but I was too sleepy.”
“What movie, Pup?” Bakugo noticed the change in your demeanor, now a little reserved as you thought back to that memory.
“It was called A Whisker Away and although it’s about cats, it looked really nice – can we watch that?” You glanced up at him, afraid he’d laugh at you or say no.
“’Course we can, Pup, let’s put it on...” Bakugo just ignored your nerves, guessing that calling you out on them would only make you retreat inside yourself more... he couldn’t help but notice the way you relaxed when he said yes, taking a spoonful of your food and savoring the flavor in your mouth as you glanced up at the screen with bright, excited eyes. You had both quickly finished your food, you curling up near Bakugo’s feet with your knees brought up to your chest as he stayed on the couch, occasionally glancing down at you to make sure you were okay and before long he noticed you falling asleep... he wanted until you had been asleep for a solid ten minutes before he turned off the movie, and gently picked you up, bringing you to your room and tucking you in. He pulled the covers up toward your chest, and placed the blanket he found on top of the bedding, assuming it was something special to you, right up to your face where you could easily grab it if you needed it for comfort.
Bakugo left the door cracked just in case that made you feel too confined and went to his room, changing into his pajamas before snuggling into his own bed, feeling anxious, but equally happy that this day finally came, and the first few hours of it weren’t awkward or difficult.
˗ˋˏ ♡ ˎˊ˗
You awoke while it was still dark in the apartment, still dark outside, as you panicked for a moment, forgetting where you were as you held your comfort blanket close to you... your comfort blanket? It was put right in front of your face, and now that you thought about it you don’t remember how you got into bed... you sat up, looking around before the sensation of needing the bathroom hit. You climbed out of bed and padded softly to the room next to yours, peeking inside to see Bakugo sleeping peacefully in the dim lighting from his glowing computer screensaver. You quietly backed away, opting for the next door that did turn out to be the bathroom. You used it, and finally after washing your hands stood in front of the sink, staring at yourself in the mirror, splashing water on your face as you looked up, realizing you didn’t put the ear cream on before bed... you actually found it sitting on the counter with your pills as well as a little direction paper written by the hybrid doctor from the facility. You took two tiny pea-sized amounts and rubbed them around the base of your ears, still wincing from the small amount of residual pain as your skin slowly healed itself, little peach fuzz fur popping back where the rubber bands had stripped the hair.
“You okay, Pup?” Bakugo’s deep, sleepy voice startled you and you dropped the tube of cream as you shrieked softly, looking up at him as he knocked softly and then peeked around the open door.
You just nodded, grabbing the dropped tube and putting the cap back on as you looked up at him, smiling sheepishly. “I forgot my ear cream before bed,” you said, and Bakugo just nodded, smiling down at you with half-open eyes.
“M’sorry I forgot to remind you myself, but you seemed to really need your sleep.” Bakugo answered, opening the door all the way. “You sleeping okay?” He asked.
You nodded, opting to leave the bathroom as he followed you back to your room. “I was worried when I woke up, I forgot where I was, but, I’m okay.” You said softly, and Bakugo just nodded, the placid look on his face not giving away the screaming cheers he was having on the inside of his mind.
“When we wake back up at a normal time, want to finish that movie of yours?” Bakugo asked and you jumped up in excitement.
“Yes, please! I fell asleep again...” You grumbled softly as you crawled back into bed, pulling the covers up nearly above your head.
“S’okay, Pup, we can keep re-watching it until we finish it... I’ll see you in a few, yeah?” Bakugo added softly, and you smiled sleepily, a slow nod to your head as you sunk back against the pillow. Bakugo couldn’t help the small sigh of happiness he let out as he watched you sink into comfort. He turned your light back off, leaving the door cracked as he went back into his room, falling asleep with a lighter heart after the interaction.
Upon waking Bakugo felt off... or something felt off as she went to stretch his tired, aching body when he suddenly made contact with something warm, and soft and fluffy? He froze for a moment before he opened his eyes, adjusting to the dim lighting as he looked down and saw you curled up in bed with him, an arm draped over him as you snuggled into his side with your cold little nose pressed into his skin below his armpit. Bakugo didn’t know what to do, between his anxiety and quick-beating heart at this development, and not wanting to startle you, or wake you up, or just move you from this absolutely heart-shattering cute position he found himself fawning over... Bakugo didn’t dare move, at the very least until he heard a soft little noise as you stirred beside him and soon he found himself looking into your eyes. “Heya, Pup...” Bakugo said softly, wanting to tread carefully here. “What’cha doing all snuggled up with me, hm? Was the new room to empty?”
You gave a soft yawn, stretching your limbs out, but keeping the one arm over him as you shook your head slowly. “No, you were crying in your sleep...” you said, a cautious tone to your voice as you continued. “I couldn’t wake you up, and petting you didn’t make it stop like TetsuTetsu used to do to me... but when I applied pressure you calmed down, so I did that for a while and I must’ve fallen asleep, m’sorry...” Bakugo froze... he didn’t realize he was still having nightmares like that, his neighbors hadn’t left any passive aggressive notes about the screaming in the middle of the night in over a month, but apparently he was loud enough to wake you. Bakugo was stunned to silence for a moment before he just smiled down at you, patting your head and gently ruffling your hair with a soft scritch behind your ears.
“Don’t be sorry,” he said softly, yawning and closing his eyes as he pulled you to his side, his arm caging you in. “I appreciate it, Pup, you did a good job protecting me, huh?”
The blush and small puff to your chest didn’t go unnoticed by Bakugo... he’s slowly learning you enjoy praise and being told something you did was the right thing to do... he’d have to make sure he said his praise out loud when you did something good to reinforce that for you. It didn’t take long again for you both to fall asleep side by side, snuggled up and each with your own little smile.
˗ˋˏ ♡ ˎˊ˗
When Bakugo woke up and you weren’t there, he didn’t immediately panic... but when he heard zero noises coming from anywhere in the apartment, he got worried. He quickly got up, making sure you just weren’t on another side of his bed. He walked softly across the hallway to peek into your room and found the bed made and you not in it... he didn’t find you in the kitchen or the living room and the moment almost crossed into panic attack territory, he was going to call Kirishima in .05 seconds when he saw a glint out on the balcony... the sun catching in the silky reflection off your fur in such a way it almost sparkled... you were stretched out on a lounge chair just sunbathing as he walked over, admiring you as he slowly opened the door.
“Mornin’ Pup,” he said, his voice deeper with sleep still. “Do you drink coffee, or tea? Want something?”
“Mmm...” Your little groan made his heartbeat skip a bit, cute as you stretched out your sun-warmed legs and looked up at him from where you rested your head on your arms. “Tea would be really nice...” Your voice was soft, shy, almost afraid to ask for anything but he just smiled and nodded, telling you to head in in five minutes and it should be done. When the time came Bakugo had just poured the hot water over the tea leaves, steeping them and handing the warmed cup off to you carefully. He walked with you slowly to the living room where you both sipped your hot tea, him opting to turn that movie back on for you, and enjoying the way you curled up at his feet... he worried you felt like you couldn’t sit on the couch, but the way you snuggled against his legs, and after he offered you a spot up there, you told him it was sometimes nice to just hunker down on the floor. He didn’t argue, and he enjoyed the way you leaned on him, sipping your tea with your eyes glued to the screen. Finally, as the credits rolled you looked back up at him, your head upside down. “Wow! It was so good!”
Bakugo nodded, having liked the film. “It was really cute, glad you chose that one.” You got a proud look on your face and leant back against him, still glancing up at him.
“What are we doing today?” You asked, a hint of excitement in your voice.
“Was thinking we could go shopping for you, feel up to that?” Bakugo asked, arching a brown down at you as a thoughtful look crossed your face.
“Ah, yes, but...” your words faded into a soft mumble.
“But what, Pup?” Bakugo pushed you a little.
“B...But I don’t feel like... I earned it, or d-deserve it...” You said quietly, looking down and away from him as your shoulders deflated.
Bakugo nudged you with his knee, making you look back up at him with how stern, but still kind, his voice was. “Hey,” he grumbled out. “You don’t have to earn anything like clothes, and things to make your space special... now if you ask for a $15,000.00 yen computer then we’re gonna have to talk about you doing some chores...” Bakugo mumbled, knowing damn well with all the money at his fingertips he would buy you anything you asked for without hesitation, damning the cost. “You are allowed to have things, especially if they’re offered as gifts... now we’re gonna go out with no limit, and you are going to choose things for your room that make you happy, got it?”
You took a moment to answer, a soft look on your face as you just nodded, finally relenting. “O-Okay, I...” you paused for a moment before continuing, looking back up at him. “Thank you, but...” Bakugo waited patiently for you to finish, giving you a reassuring look. “Can you make me a little list of chores anyway? It helps me feel like I’m at least earning something...”
“I can do that, Pup,” Bakugo said, nodding with a small smile as he gave you a pat on the head. “Now come on, let’s get going hm?” ˗ˋˏ ♡ ˎˊ˗
Bakugo watched with an amused look as you slowly made your way around the large department store, still occasionally looking back at him for his approval, which he always gave you, before you chose something and put it in the shopping cart, gently placing things upright and fitting them in like a game of Tetris as you kept your eyes scanning around... you had already shopped five full large bags of clothing, shoes, and toiletries that were in the trunk of the waiting hired car... now you both were wandering a department store for room accessories, and whatever else you’d want. Bakugo found it amusing you always chose a new soft plush toy, or a cute storybook each time you found a new one that caught your eye, and he wasn’t going to say no to you – hell, he had plenty of shelf space.
Bakugo noticed a pattern in what you desired most: soft, fluffy, comforting, neutral colors. Although there were a couple things you picked that leaned toward darker tones, and a couple things that were a baby blush pink... most of what you chose were more neutral earth tones. Bakugo couldn’t help but wonder if those tones naturally drew you in and calmed you down... he should bring up the idea of painting your room.
“Uhm,” your quiet little voice broke through his train of thought as he looked down at you, holding a slightly medium-sized box. “T-This is kind of expensive...”
“What’cha got there, Pup?” Bakugo asked, trying to look past the hands you had clasped around the box. You held the box up, and Bakugo noticed a $5,000.00 yen price tag... for a bubble machine. Bakugo arched a brow as he glanced back at you, your eyes looking big and hopeful as he thought he’d press the issue. “What’cha want with a bubble maker, Pup?”
“I like chasing them, and popping them... and I would only do it out on the balcony...” you said sweetly, pleading with your eyes as he sighed, rubbing the bridge of his nose, noticing the way you started to deflate before he relented.
“In the cart, Pup,” he said with a sigh, and a smile down at you as your tail wagged quickly the moment you got to put the box in the cart. Bakugo couldn’t help but feel a sense of pride at the fact you felt comfortable enough to ask for a splurge item, and soon enough you guys finished up at the store, you slowed down with grabbing things after the bubble machine, but Bakugo made sure to grab anything you lingered on but decided against in the cart when you weren’t looking. He couldn’t wait to see your face when you unpacked everything and found things you thought you didn’t get.
Bakugo opted to have an assistant from the agency drop all the stuff off back at his apartment, while you and him walked around downtown looking for a place to grab something to eat.
“You choose, Pup,” Bakugo said, glancing down at you as you held tightly onto his hand, almost leaning into his side as you looked up and around at everything, and everyone, you passed. “Anywhere that smells or looks good to you?” He watched as you scanned the area around you, eyes lingering on a family-style restaurant (*ファミレス). “Wanna go there?” Bakugo asked and you nodded, your nose sniffing at the air as you tugged on his hand toward the place, and he followed you, allowing you the chance to feel confident enough to lead you both somewhere. When you entered you were greeted and told to sit anywhere you pleased, and soon Bakugo saw your floppy little ears perk up at a particular sound, a sound he was familiar with, too... with a quick scan of the restaurant, Bakugo noticed Kirishima and TetsuTetsu seated in a corner booth, and soon the redhead saw Bakugo and waved them both over.
“Wow, hey Bakugo!” Kirishima greeted, then smiling down at you. “Hey Puppy, you guys out to dinner, hm?” You nodded, still holding onto Bakugo’s hand tightly, which didn’t go unnoticed by Kirishima as he gave Bakugo a mischievous smirk. TetsuTetsu was soon pulling you to the seat next to him, nearly pulling you into his lap as he waved a waiter over, getting you guys some drinks as well as starting an order of more food for everyone...you opting for some tempura vegetables, and a hamburger steak, and Gyūdon. Bakugo watched as TetsuTetsu kind of handled you roughly, but you had a soft smile on your face as you smiled up at him, letting him shove different pieces of food in your mouth as he talked on and on about what he and Kirishima did that day, with you distracted Kirishima took the moment to nudge Bakugo with a smirk.
“She seems to already be comfortable with you,” Kirishima smiled, an arch to his brow suggesting something else.
Bakugo scoffed, nudging the redhead back as he stole a piece of sushi off his plate. “Get that thought out of your head, Shitty Hair,” Bakugo grumbled, a noticeable redness to the tip of his ears. “She’s been really good the last 24 hours, I’m really surprised... we even went shopping today.” Bakugo took another piece of sushi from Kirishima’s plate as the additional food and drink arrived, Bakugo watching you carefully as TetsuTetsu helped you by putting your food closer to where you sat... a small smile on his face as he watched you two together.
“What else?” Kirishima asked, noticing Bakugo avoiding something.
Bakugo scowled, his signature look on his face as his brows pulled together, taking a sip of the saké  Kirishima poured for him. “I guess I’m still having nightmare, just not waking up the neighbors...” Bakugo grumbled, looking away as he drank down the liquid in a smooth gulp. “She came in and tried to do deep pressure therapy in my sleep... I guess it helped.”
“Wow,” Kirishima breathed, a kind smile on his face as he patted Bakugo’s back. “She’s doing a good job already, huh?” Bakugo just nodded, not wanting to drag on this particular conversation as he took another drink, enjoying the food with Kirishima while keeping an eye on you out of the corner of his eye.
Soon enough two hours had passed with you all eating, and Bakugo and Kirishima drinking a little, although Kirishima had stopped an hour ago and stayed to mostly water since he’d be driving. He offered a ride to you both and you took it, he also paid for dinner despite Bakugo’s protests – your own cheeks heating up at the sight of how Kirishima shut Bakugo right up with a quick peck to his lips as he left the table and paid for everything... Bakugo left sitting there with a scowl and a deep red blush on his puffed cheeks.
“C’mon, Pup, let’s go home.” Bakugo said, standing and offering his hand to you as you took it, TetsuTetsu whining and snagging your other hand as you all walked to the front to meet Kirishima as he pulled the car around. Bakugo helped you get situated in the backseat as he sat up front with Kirishima, your eyes drifting to the way Kirishima’s hand kept on Bakugo’s thigh, before TetsuTetsu pulled you into a hug, snuggling you and rubbing his face all over yours while he babbled about how happy he was to see you, and how happy you seemed outside of the facility.
“’Shima, can we have a sleepover, huh?!” TetsuTetsu asked, looking up at his owner through the rearview mirror.
“That depends if Bakugo and Puppy want company, ‘Susu...” Kirishima replied, giving a squeeze to Bakugo’s thigh as the blonde sunk into his seek, mumbling out a, “Yeah, fine, whatever...” and looking out the window. TetsuTetsu cheered, saying how much fun you both would have watching movies, and decorating your new room. You just nodded along, snuggled into your friend’s side as you looked around the window, occasionally peeking over at Bakugo.
˗ˋˏ ♡ ˎˊ˗
Upon arriving back at your and Bakugo’s apartment, TetsuTetsu ran with you to your room, dragging you behind him as he gripped your wrist tightly... more excited to unpack your stuff than you seemed. Kirishima couldn’t hold back the soft laugh as his hybrid dragged you along, his energy never ceasing to surprise him... and soon Kirishima hooked an arm around Bakugo’s waist, pulling the blonde back to him as he kissed the nape of his neck. “You were a little bratty at dinner tonight, Katsuki...” Kirishima almost purred in his ear, the blonde melting into his arms as he sighed.
“M’sorry, was a long day...” Bakugo mumbled, despite having a wonderful day with you it was long, even longer after his fitful sleep, despite your help the second half of the night.
“You gonna make it up to me?” Kirishima asked, turning Bakugo in his arms to pull him to his body, the already hardening bulge in his pants pressing against Bakugo’s own semi-hard cock. “Gonna be good and show me how sorry you are?”
Bakugo looked toward your room, and then back up at Kirishima. “Gotta be quiet though, Red.”
Kirishima smirked down at him, pulling Bakugo’s bottom lip between his sharp teeth as he pulled gently, before releasing the flesh and kissing his lips softly. “Being quiet is up to you, you’re the one who makes such pretty noises for me...”
“Shut it, Red,” Bakugo growled out, opting to head to your room where they both witnessed a large mess of bags, torn containers, and items strewn about. “Hey Pup, you gonna be okay if we go to bed?”
You nodded, smiling as TetsuTetsu began organizing your books on your shelf. “Yeah, are we being too loud?” Bakugo shook his head, smiling at your care.
“Nah, you go ahead and put everything how you want it, just bag up all the trash you have, yeah?”
“Okay!” You replied, your tail wagging happily behind you as you turned back to unpacking the things in the third large bag you guys have ripped open. Bakugo smiled at the sight, happy to see you so comfortable, and happy that you were at ease with a friend nearby to keep you company.
Kirishima was pulling Bakugo back across the hallway, quietly shutting your door as he hooked his arm around the blonde’s waist, shutting his door behind them as he turned the blonde to face him grabbing his face in between his fingers, causing Bakugo’s cheeks and lips to squish as Kirishima looked down at him, leaning in to press a quick kiss to his lips as Bakugo hummed softly, before Kirishima smirked down at him. “Strip,” he said simply, moving to go and stand in front of Bakugo’s bed, taking off his own clothing... standing nude in the room as his well-defined muscles rippled across his body, his large cock semi-erect as he took a seat on Bakugo’s bed, Bakugo, who was slowly stripping and was just down to his black boxer briefs when Kirishima bent a finger at him, beckoning him closer. “Why don’t you kneel for me, Katsu?” Kirishima said, smiling as the blonde fell to his knees with a soft thud in front of him, Bakugo resting his cheek on Kirishima’s thigh as he looked up at him, the tension slowly melting off him as someone else took control, and all he had to do was focus on each task he was given. “You did have a hard day, huh? I’m sorry, Katsu...” Kirishima said, stroking the blonde’s cheek as he pushed his thumb into his mouth, feeling Bakugo’s tongue swirl and suck around the invading digit.
“Yesh...” Bakugo mumbled around Kirishima’s thumb, a pout on his face as his eyebrows knitted together, a scowl still on his face before Kirishima pressed down on his tongue, causing him to gag softly.
“Gonna continue to have that bratty attitude of yours, or are you going to be good?” Kirishima asked, an edge to his voice unlike his normal jovial tone.
“G-Good...” Bakugo mumbled out around his thumb, still sucking on the large digit as Kirishima placed his free hand on the back of Bakugo’s head.
“Then be a good boy for me, and apologize, yeah?” Kirishima asked softly, though his tone held no room for argument... Bakugo just nodded, leaning forward to kiss the angry red tip of Kirishima’s large cock, the precum smearing on Bakugo’s pale pink lips as he did so until he opened his mouth and sucked in the tip, Kirishima sucking in a sharp breath as the blonde took more and more of his length into his mouth. “F-Fuck... ah-hah... you must be really sorry, huh Katsu? Or you had such an overwhelming day you just want to let go, is that it?” Kirishima said softly, petting the blonde’s hair as he smiled down at him with a toothy grin.
Bakugo hummed, but suddenly his practiced movement stopped, Kirishima looking down at him as he saw tears welled up in Bakugo's eyes... saw the fat streaks of salty wetness rolling down his cheeks, his eyes far away and unfocused. Kirishima carefully pulls him off the half of his cock Bakugo had started sucking while Kirishima decided to put a stop to this.
“Red,” Kirishima said with a stern, commanding tone, pulling Bakugo up from the floor and onto the bed with him. Bakugo was still unresponsive, and Kirishima pulled him into his lap... Kirishima, who was probably one of the only men on Earth who could dwarf Bakugo and make him feel small. Kirishima hummed and cooed sweet things into Bakugo’s ears as he slowly coaxed the blonde out of wherever he was stuck mentally. When Kirishima felt Bakugo’s fingers twitch, hand going back to his half-hard cock Kirishima grabbed his wrist and forced Bakugo to look at him.
“Red,” Kirishima said again more sternly. “Scene over, no sex. I’m calling it.” He said with a tone he knew Bakugo wouldn’t argue with, but the stern response made Bakugo flinch, more tears running down his face as Kirishima held him, thumbing away the wetness at his cheeks and kissing his lips softly. “Come back to be, Katsuki,” Kirishima whispered softly, petting Bakugo’s hair and peppering little soft kisses all over from his shoulder, neck, to everywhere on his face and the top of his head.
“M’sorry,” Bakugo finally said, leaning into Kirishima’s side as the redhead pulled him tightly to him, keeping an arm anchored around Bakugo’s body. “M’sorry I’m not like I used to be...” a soft sob shook his body as more tears slipped down his face and Kirishima shushed him, pulling him in tighter.
“I’m not the same, either, Katsuki,” Kirishima said, tucking the blonde beneath his chin as he rested his head above. “We’ve both been through some hard shit, and your trauma is more recent... it’s okay to not be okay, and it’s okay to not be the same, even after you’re done healing...” Kirishima kissed the top of his head. “And you’re not done healing, Katsu... and you don’t have to force yourself to be okay around me, or feel like you need to do all the things we used to do, okay? Not if you don’t want to...”
“I want to,” Bakugo said quickly, a soft blush on his honeyed cheeks. “I just... I don’t always feel okay, and even on a day like today where everything went well... I was happy... w-why do I still feel so bad?” Bakugo growled out, his fists clenching as he ground his teeth together harshly. Kirishima just answered by keeping Bakugo anchored to his own body, holding him tightly in a near-bearhug as he kept Bakugo’s ear against his heart, hoping the steady thumping will calm him down as well.
“You feel bad, even after a good day, because you’re still healing, idiot,” Kirishima admonished Bakugo softly. “Because even though your first day together was a success this is still new, scary territory for you and you’re still frustrated being put on leave and navigating new obstacles you never had to deal with before...” Bakugo’s body started shaking, Kirishima noting quiet sobs wracking his body as he held onto his friend, his lover, tightly to his body. “You’re not used to being dependent on others for anything, Katsuki... and now you’re dependent on Doctors to find solutions to heal the damage done to your body, you’re dependent on the technical abilities of the Hero Support Staff to come up with solutions to protect you and aide you moving forward with any deficits you may have... and now you’re navigating a new relationship with someone who shares in trauma with you and you’re trying to be a good caretaker... that is a lot for anyone to deal with. It’s expected that you’re not dealing with everything perfectly, Katsu...” Kirishima finished and Bakugo clung to him, sobbing softly in silence until the sobs turned to hiccups turned to quiet, gasping little breaths to re-regulate himself.
“T-Thank you, Eji...” Bakugo finally mumbled after minutes of dead silence.
“S’what I’m here for, yeah? I promised you forever, and I meant it.” He said softly, kissing the top of Bakugo’s head.
“Dumb Shitty Hair,” Bakugo grumbled, a blush on the tip of his ears visible. “Can’t just go around saying those kinds of cheesy things.”
Kirishima grinned, wide and mischievous as he began to tickle at all of Bakugo’s known ticklish spots. “Oh yeah, Blasty Boy? Who’s gonna stop me from saying all those things? You?” Bakugo was trying to hold back his laughter, fighting Kirishima off between fits of deep, baritone giggles and gasping for air as his sensitive spots were attacked ruthlessly. Finally, within another minute, Kirishima relented his assault, leaning down to kiss the smiling blonde in his lap on the forehead. “Wanna just cuddle and go to sleep?” He asked, tracing soft patterns across the sharp lines of Bakugo’s angular face.
“Let me go check on them real quick,” Bakugo muttered, really wanting to check in with you and see if you were doing okay still. “They’ve been suspiciously quiet for too long.”
Bakugo got up, pulling on a pair of sweatpants in lieu of just the boxer briefs he wore. He opened the door to a silent apartment, and walked softly across the hall before opening the door. His breath was taken away at the sweet sight... your room was set up with all the stuff you bought today, decorated in a way that almost mimicked a garden with hanging flowers and greenery, and soft silken canopies of fabric strung around with fairy lights... which were all that lit up the room, twinkling above yours and TetsuTetsu’s sleeping forms, you both cuddled together on top of your bedding. Bakugo grabbed an extra blanket from the hallway, draping it over the both of you and patting your head softly, a touch that you lent into even in your sleep with a soft hum. “Night, Pup...” Bakugo said whisper-soft as he smiled down at you.
Bakugo left the fairy lights on, turning off the overhead light to leave you both sleeping in the dim, twinkling lights as he closed the door... walking back across the hall with a content smile and finding Kirishima settled into his bed waiting for him.
“They good?” He asked, looking at the smile on Bakugo’s face.
“Yeah, they cleaned up and everything... they’re sleeping now.” Bakugo said, climbing into the bed where Kirishima held up the covers, snuggling beneath a strong arm as he rests his head on his chest. Kirishima pulled him close and kissed the top of his head again before whispering a soft ‘Good night, Katsu’. Bakugo fell asleep in a warm comfort he missed having, feeling more content than he had in a while.

Perfect Propose: A few final thoughts
There is a melancholy to this series because it’s about a romance but it’s also about breaking out of external and internal barriers holding you back from happiness.
Hiro’s work situation was such an incredible representation of what it feels like to work in a workplace that is out to exploit every second of your time and never thank you for it. I really loved that the show is clear about how people enable their own exploitation in these environments, and how often people don’t leave because they need the idea that their life will be better when they finally do quit, and they’re afraid it isn’t true so they’d rather stay with the devil they know [it's me, I'm people].
Tumblr media
I loved Kai finding his way to Hiro when he was at his lowest, and going from a guy who was afraid to ask for anything or make any kind of mark on Hiro’s life, to putting up a wind chime decoration and building a hydroponic vegetable system and asking Hiro to come home to him every night.
Tumblr media
Kai’s arc wasn’t as strong or as detailed as Hiro’s, but it was important to the story. Kai has always recognized Hiro's kindness in asking for something from Kai rather than offering something to Kai--Kai has always felt useless but Hiro gave him purpose, as a kid and again as an adult. But Kai needed to learn to want things for himself, something Hiro noticed and encouraged him to do. And when Hiro misses their festival date and realized he’d let Kai down, he offers to make it up to him in two ways (committing to the tomato growing, which was a short-term but tangible commitment to Kai, and agreeing to share a bed), which helped bring them closer together and helped Kai get bolder, sending Hiro those images of the food he was missing to help him continue to want to be home.
Tumblr media
Kai got to see Hiro more vulnerable, and feel more wanted, and then got the apology from the old restaurant owner’s son. But when he heard that his presence had held the restaurant owner back from moving in with his son, he took it the wrong way, and defaulted back to thinking he’s a burden who puts the people he loves at risk just by virtue of being there. [There was a kernel of truth in there about how Kai, in making Hiro’s life a little better, also was enabling him to stay longer in that awful job, but he couldn’t see how he was also giving Hiro a reason to quit it.]
Tumblr media
And at the end, when the typical Japanese Run For Your Love failed (which I really enjoyed), the words that got through to Kai were heartbreaking. Hiro doesn’t tell Kai he’s a good presence in his life; he’s already done that and he knows it wouldn’t get through anyway, because he knows Kai. Instead, he reminds Kai that Hiro’s life was already empty and meaningless, so Kai couldn’t possibly make it any worse. He made himself and a relationship with him feel safe. I have been sitting with this all day and it still makes me devastated every time I think about it for more than 30 seconds. Kai made home a place Hiro wanted to be enough that he could actually come home, and Hiro made home safe enough that Kai felt like he could stay there without being afraid he’d ruin it.
Tumblr media
Would I have wanted more of these two together? Absolutely, I could watch Hiro and Kai together for triple this runtime easy. But for me, this show used its time incredibly well and ends in the perfect place. I have enough with what we got to see exactly how they got from where we leave them to how we see them in the show opening credits.
Tumblr media
Enough to know they’re going to be ok.
