a panel redraw from amazing spider-man #332. the dad instincts were already kicking in even before carnage. i wish i had time for more detail but i'm almost late for work(again)
end of the unicorn progress.. i discovered that restarting the recording when i started on lineart didn’t make a whole new video, it actually included all the stuff i recorded from the very beginning (cutting out the hours of tedious horse jaw & teeth referencing).
i’m going to put a flashing images warning on this because i did not realise that my workflow of turning my thumbnail sketch layer on and off like that would end up looking so jarring when recorded & sped up
this was a drawing that i never had any real vision for, as you can tell from all the tangents and different effects i tried throughout the whole process. i didn’t know what it was going to look like, what colours i would use, or what was going to end up in the bg. i had to stop myself from going on and on adding more and more effects because the one sort of inspiration i had was old sci-fi novel covers from the 60s and 70s, paintings of alien worlds with those big empty gradient skies in the bg, and i felt that going on and throwing more details in would take away from that
So I had recently found out it was my online friend’s Birthday soon (because I had asked why they put “gonna eat a huge 🍑 of cake” as their status)
And I had instantly known at that moment, that I was gonna wrestle my art block in a WWE Match, and push myself out of my comfort zone by becoming a digital artist.
I have drawn some digital art in the past, but I have never ever been satisfied with its looks, nor did I even finish them — so i’m really happy with how this turned out.
And Happy Early Birthday @peachburger 🥳🎉 HOPE YOU ENJOY THE GIFT!! 💝
BONUS:
This took me 5 hours, 15 minutes, and 35 seconds — which is honestly surprising giving the fact that the last time I drew semi-realism art, it took 24 hours and was never taken out of the to be continued bin again.
In real life though — it took me 3 days to finish since I started at August 2 and ended on August 4.
Ever since I saw mamagi's adventures with rinne, I've been thinking abt Hiiro showing her around the es. He brings her to the es cafeteria like, "ma, this is where we eat!! :D" and he introduces her to omurice (now Aira has TWO amagis obsessed with it), he shows her the outdoor stages like, "ma, this is where we perform!! You should watch our live next week!! :D" shows her around StarPro, "ma, this is where I work! :D" introduces her to alkaloid and his co-workers. Ooof. Hiiro sunshine baby, I just think he'd be so happy and excited showing mamagi around
It's funny you say that 'cause I actually was thinking of drawing Hiiro out to lunch with his mom and he gets her to try omurice so how dare you read into my mind like that (/lh)
Or she's like "Hey Niki hon, Hiiro said something about um? Omurice?"
Niki: ....Yeah that checks out give me a sec
But he absolutely would do that, he's just so excited to show her all the things he's learned !! He and Rinne (and probably Niki) take her out to a bunch of cafes and shops and stuff and it's just mother-sons bonding time
I didn't expect to like. Keep drawing so much Mamagi content but when I originally made it, it was more of a "she's magically back from the dead" kind of thing which is why Rinne was so much closer to her 'cause he'd remember her better since she passed when Hiiro was young (and why I've just been mostly drawing her and Rinne)
Now that I have acted on my god complex as an artist and rewritten the narrative for funsies, I think it's more like he's attached to her 'cause A- she was the only person who really loved them back home and B- he didn't get to spend a lot of time with her because of village chief training
That got sad um. Here's Mamagi at her son's lives--
