THE DOOR creaked open, startling me. I quickly sat up from my position next to Anthony. Grabbing at my blanket, trying to cover his face, hoping he wouldn't make any noise.
"I forgot to tell you goodnight, so goodnight, also I may not be back until..." Montagu Barnes, my godfather, drew out his words as he looked at the lump of a body under the blanket. "Who is in your bed y/n?"
His voice was stern, causing me to slightly panic. I was quick to look next to me to see if I could try to cover for it by saying it was pillows, or the blanket was bunched. It was very clearly a tall figure and there was no way I was getting passed that.
"No one, Mont, what are you talking about?" I tried my best to sound confused, but there was a panicked look on my face.
"Whose there?" He asked again, his voice in a warning tone.
"Are you sure you don't want to get your eyes checked Barnes?" I joked, moving slightly.
Montagu ignored my comment and walked towards the bed, I shuffled slightly to try to get him to stop, but he was already pulling up the covers by the time I was able to reach his hand. He fully pulled them off to reveal Anthony Lockwood, laying down with wide eyes. He was in a white shirt and sweatpants.
"Oh, hello Inspector Barnes! What a surprise seeing you here!" He sat up and gave him his signature grin.
"What are you doing in y/n's bed, Mr. Lockwood?" He asked, crossing his arms.
"y/n? I don't know who that is," He tried to cover, using his favourite 'never seen them before in my life' lie.
"Get up Lockwood, I am taking you to DEPRAC for trespassing," Montagu pulled him out of bed by his arm and kept a hand on his shoulder.
"Montagu, please, we didn't do anything I swear," I pleaded, now getting out of bed on the opposite side. "Don't lock him up, he didn't do anything."
"You, be quiet, we are talking about this when I get home." He pointed at me and walked out the door with Anthony in his hold.
Anthony looked back and mouthed a sorry before Montagu closed the door behind them. Leaving me to get shake my head in silence. I was quick to decide that I needed to go help Anthony. I put on my normal clothes instead of the pyjamas I was wearing for bed.
As soon as I was ready, I went out the door, to see that they were both already gone. Wasting no time, I gather my things and went I went outside, locking the door behind me. I saw Montagu's car turning the corner by the time I turned around. I was quick to run down the street, following behind. To an odd convince, there is a cab station not far from the house, only a block or two.
Once I was there, I got a cab, asking it to take me to DEPRAC. Once I was there I paid and went inside, saying hi to the normal workers and went straight towards Montague's office.
I didn't knock, I just opened the doors and interrupted a conversation between him and Sergeant Wade. I gave an annoyed look, walking in and crossing my arms.
"Hi Wade," I greeted, ignoring her confused and frustrated stare. "Mont, where did you put Lockwood?"
"I told you, I arrested him for trespassing, now go home, we will discuss this in the morning," He shooed me away.
"No, we are going to discuss this now," I didn't budge when he stood up and stood in front of me.
It wasn't often that we fought, but when we did, it was often loud and harsh. Just like it would be now.
We stood there for a few moments, just staring at each other, wondering who would make the first "attack." It was him. That is what started an hour-long argument between the two of us, which has now led to me on the ground in tears begging for him to let Anthony go.
"Fine! Fine! I will let him go," He finally cracked, which made me smile and jump up.
"Great, let's go get him! Oh and I am staying at his for the night," I looked to see a face about to argue with me again and cut him off. "Don't even try fighting me on this."
"Whatever, let's just go let Lockwood out," He grumbled, taking to the cells.
It was dark down there, quiet given there weren't many people there. We eventually stopped outside of one, where Lockwood sat on his bed. He must have heard us because he looked up and gave Montagu a shit-eating grin and walked towards the bars.
"Good evening Inspector Barnes, I see your y/n here has convinced you to let me out," He gave me a much warmer smile before returning his look to Montagu.
"Don't get too cocky now Lockwood, I can still put you behind these bars," He unlocked the lock and opened the bar door, letting Anthony walk out.
"Don't worry Inspector Barnes, I don't plan on returning anytime soon," He said, now standing next to me.
"Just, keep them safe," he threatened before bidding us goodnight, leaving us to leave for 35 Portland Row.
--
It is now morning, breakfast is on the table thanks to our wonderful chief, George Karim. I was sitting next to Anthony, across from Lucy. We all just got up so we were enjoying the silence.
"Why did you guys get home so late? Also, I thought you were staying at Barnes," Lucy asked, yawning a bit.
"Our plans kind of got ruined when Inspector Barnes caught us and arrested me," Anthony responded, shrugging it off like it was truly, no big deal.
"What the fuck?" George asked, setting down a final plate in front of us, before sitting next to Lucy.
"You got arrested?" Lucy questioned.
We explained the whole story, being sure to leave out the details of why exactly Anthony was in my bed. This left us joking about the whole thing only twenty minutes later, which I am sure will become an ongoing joke in this house. How often can you say that Anthony bloody Lockwood got ARRESTED because your godfather found him your bed? Not many, which makes it one hell of a story.

So, I was driving in the car today and heard "Rude" by Magic! on the radio. And this just popped into my head.
This little story is set post The Empty Grave and contains minor spoilers. It could be for either the book universe or the show universe. It is not necessarily connected to my ongoing series with @practicallyasleep but could be read that way if you so choose.
Enjoy!
------------------------------------
"No. Absolutely not." Montagu Barnes shook his head. How was this even happening?!
"Inspector—" Of course the boy was trying to reason, but there could be none here.
Montagu shook his head again. "Mr. Lockwood, I have let a lot slide when it comes to you, and I have actively covered up more. But this? I cannot and will not condone it."
"It's what we both want!" Lockwood protested.
"Today."
"This isn't going to change," Lockwood insisted. "Lucy and I... Look, I know that we're young, but when you know, you know, and we know, Inspector. In fact, I really only came to you as a courtesy—"
Montagu held up a hand. "Not so fast. As agents, you and Ms. Carlyle are considered wards of DEPRAC, especially in the absence of... any other figure to fill the role. And before you tell me you're eighteen, DEPRAC's guardianship supercedes your—may I say incredibly nascent—adulthood, quite specifically to prevent things like this!"
"Which is why I came prepared." Lockwood indicated his rapier. "As the rules also state, I can challenge you to a duel for Lucy's hand, and you must either accept and fight, or forfeit. So, Inspector Barnes..." Lockwood stood and got ready to draw. "Which will it be?"
------------
Montagu sat bolt upright in his chair. He must have dozed off while filling out paperwork.
Thank God that Lockwood and Carlyle were no longer his problem: they hadn't yet lost their Talent, but with the bulk of the fight having shifted to the Other Side, Lockwood had been serving as a fencing instructor for the last few years, and Carlyle was working at Munro's organization helping agents on their way out find other suitable work, or a path to further education.
They were still young, but not so young that the wedding invitation currently awaiting response on his desk had been as much of a shock as it could have been.
Really, they were suited. Nauseatingly so. (And probably better not to inflict on anyone else, if he was being honest.)
It was a happy ending—beginning—for them, and in a world that had seen far too few of them, well, he wasn't going to miss it.
