Civilian AU where Soap is a Firefighter (specifically Paramedic) and Ghost is the culinary teacher at a local university.
This has been stewing in my brain for months. I will probably talk more about it.
Meet cute where someone fucks up with oil and Soap treats Ghost’s burns. Aggressive, awkward flirting ensuing with Soap assuming Ghost thinks he’s unqualified and Ghost assuming Soap thinks he’s an asshole.
Soap coming back to give a safety and first-aid demonstration and the two of them going to ask for a date at the same time. Dates ensuing, Ghost teaching Soap to cook, you get the idea.
Some additional tid-bits:
Price is the fire captain and saw a young, delinquent Soap with a penchant for accidental fire-starting and went “Is anyone gonna parent that?” and didn’t wait for an answer.
Soap initially tried for just standard Firefighting, but one close call to many and Price told him to either pick something safer or quit. It was a low point, they both regret things they said. But Soap went back to the academy, and things mended.
Ghost and Price both still served, actually meeting briefly. Ghost quit with complete plans of just wasting away in a flat but started baking as a hobby. Push come to shove somehow he’s a beloved professor/local cryptid. Go figure.
Gaz is one of the Lit professors at the university. Ghost sat in on one of his lectures one day and Gaz never let him get away. They watch trashy TV every Saturday and grade/plan things together. Ghost gets to listen to Gaz rip things to shreds, and Gaz gets to eat what Ghost cooks. They’re buds, they would also kill someone for the other (can you sense the GhostGazSoap seeds i’m planting).
I know it might seem like a stretch to assume this was intentional.
However, I do find it interesting that this score plays while Mike reunites with El at the airport in 4x02, only for it to cut out instantly afterwards as Mike is reuniting with Will.
And in the scene in 2x01, outside of the middle school, Mike is annoyed with the other three over their interest in Max. This same score then creeps in as the boys look at each other, before they start running curiously towards whatever Max threw in the garbage, and with Mike running after them. While the score continues, Mike waves along with the other boys as a few girls walk passed them.
Basically the only parallel I can find between these two scenes is Mike waving awkwardly at girls…
pokemon theory i just thought of: new pokemon appear in the pokemon universe when they're designed in this one. they're created ex nilho but they have retroactive realness; they weren't here yesterday, but today they've always existed.
pokemon researchers have had to suss this out on their own over decades, and it's a really unpopular theory, made worse by the fact that no one can come up with a better one. from their perspective pokemon generate spontaneously but in both chronological directions, and the similarities of many pokemon seem to be detived from a conscious and creative understanding of the world--their world, though? what other world could there be?. there are ice cream pokemon and pokeball pokemon and sword pokemon and trash bag pokemon.
there are so many pokemon with both wings and a beak. is this like swords? is there an ur-flying type that this class evokes? there are so many canine pokemon. but what is a canine? is there such a thing? there's only one set of sword pokemon, right. one tea-set line. is *feline* a coherent category? would the ur-feline have two legs or four? why do so many pokemon have humanlike bodyplans-- but then again, why so few?
pichu has always been the prior form of pikachu. why didn't it get counted in order? why do we call it that instead of saying pikachu is the middle evolution of the pichu line? why can so many trainers remember finding this out well into their journeys? why didn't ash start with one?
this is why pokemon researchers do a lot of labwork, drink heavily, and use ten year olds for field research. you can't have an existential crisis if you don't even know what time is yet.
i always roll my eyes a little bit when someone openly looks down on people who are religious/spiritual. ur telling me youve never made a wish before?? never sent a little prayer out into the universe???? get real
the thing is there's like, a point of oversaturation for everything, and it's why so many things get dropped after a few minutes. and we act like millennials or gen z kids "have short attention spans" but... that's not quite it. it's more like - we did like it. you just ruined it.
capitalism sees product A having moderate success, and then everything has to come out with their "own version" of product A (which is often exactly the same). and they dump extreme amounts of money and environmental waste into each horrible simulacrum they trot out each season.
now it's not just tiktokkers making videos; it's that instagram and even fucking tumblr both think you want live feeds and video-first programming. and it helps them, because videos are easier to sneak native ads into. the books coming out all have to have 78 buzzwords in them for SEO, or otherwise they don't get published. they are making a live-action remake of moana. i haven't googled it, but there's probably another marvel or starwars something coming out, no matter when you're reading this post.
and we are like "hi, this clone of project A completely misses the point of the original. it is soulless and colorless and miserable." and the company nods and says "yes totally. here is a different clone, but special." and we look at clone 2 and we say "nope, this one is still flat and bad, y'all" and they're like "no, totally, we hear you," and then they make another clone but this time it's, like, a joyless prequel. and by the time they've successfully rolled out "clone 89", the market is incredibly oversaturated, and the consumer is blamed because the company isn't turning a profit.
and like - take even something digital like the tumblr "live streaming" function i just mentioned. that has to take up server space and some amount of carbon footprint; just so this brokenass blue hellsite can roll out a feature that literally none of its userbase actually wants. the thing that's the kicker here: even something that doesn't have a physical production plant still impacts the environment.
and it all just feels like it's rolling out of control because like, you watch companies pour hundreds of thousands of dollars into a remake of a remake of something nobody wants anymore and you're like, not able to afford eggs anymore. and you tell the company that really what you want is a good story about survival and they say "okay so you mean a YA white protagonist has some kind of 'spicy' love triangle" and you're like - hey man i think you're misunderstanding the point of storytelling but they've already printed 76 versions of "city of blood and magic" and "queen of diamond rule" and spent literally millions of dollars on the movie "Candy Crush Killer: Coming to Eat You".
it's like being stuck in a room with a clown that keeps telling the same joke over and over but it's worse every time. and that would be fine but he keeps fucking charging you 6.99. and you keep being like "no, i know it made me laugh the first time, but that's because it was different and new" and the clown is just aggressively sitting there saying "well! plenty of people like my jokes! the reason you're bored of this is because maybe there's something wrong with you!"
The other demontober with @ullbors! This time clubs! In Swedish, the word for clubs is also slang for cash, so I wanted to make business demons. They end up selling sparkling water because I love it but literally every single one of my friends thinks I pay for water that hurts.
photobashed on a photo i took yesterday (which is to say i just painted over all the stuff that reveals my location and then put a Girl in there))
this is my first original drawing in a while !! since i've been prioritizing art classes and i'm working on making more art that's eligible for awards in The Real World and trying to improve my portfolio, i've learned that original art is kinda more fun than fanart for me right now LOL so i might be making more original stuff in 2024
i've also really wanted to lean into making my work more Moe. i like moe. i want more moe in my life
you can't tell me this isn't simon when you two are out somewhere in public that's loud like a bar or even just an event and you're reaching up to whisper in his ear. his body will lean into yours so his ear is as close as possible to your lips. eyes stare ahead watches the surrounding area as he listens and registers every word you say and regardless how loud it is, he manages to hear everything you are saying or asking him .
and especially when there's other people around he will reach for your wrist, hand grasping just tightly enough to have a secure hold on you. gives you a gentle squeeze of reassurance to indicate he can hear you. also wants to keep you close incase someone bumps into you or attempts to squeeze past the two of you, his large frame a wall. his thumb brushes the back of your hand while you speak, soft hums of agreement and acknowledgment come from him as well. and when you finish talking, he'll turn his head to look at you. eyes stare up at him like he's the only person in the room, and at least in your direct view, he is.
his hand gives your wrist another reassuring squeeze before his face comes closer to yours, lips grazing briefly in a teasing manner before he gives you a kiss. and you can't help but grin into the kiss, palm spreading open and relaxing against his firm shoulder. "'jus wanna go home now," he murmurs, pulling back at placing a kiss on your forehead.
