I need to stop subjecting myself to people who aren't artists' opinions on ai art because I am going to eat a whole fucking shoe with how absolutely livid I am right now.
Ill just say this, I guess before I explode.
No one. And I mean NO ONE is giving shit to people who want to create those deep fake Garfield memes or silly images of celebrities running from cryptids in the dark. NO ONE IS CARING ABOUT THAT KIND OF UNSERIOUS USAGE!
If your argument for pro-ai includes that type of usage AND you aren't an artist? I will bite your fucking kneecaps.
THE PROBLEM is corporations and individuals who are using ai to scrape and crush other people's HARD WORK HOURS OF EFFORT AND YEARS OF PRACTICE into a single shitty shitty image so they can pretend they're a big great artist or feel special for the attention OR so they can skim a little drop of cash instead of paying someone to do it.
I feel like I'm going fucking insane.
Also people know ai banks aren't static.. right? Like you know that the big ones are scraping every bit they can from the internet every single day. It's not like they've settled on just a years worth of theft. YOU KNOW THIS RIGHT??
ITS A CONSTANT FUCKING STRUGGLE TO KEEP OUR WORK SAFE YOU KNOW THIS RIGHT????

can u explain why AI art is bad without fearmongering, moralizing or bootlicking lol
I'm going to answer in good faith, even though the tone you're using sounds like you're harboring anything but. The issue with AI art isn't specifically inherent to the tools used to produce it, because, ultimately, a tool is merely that: something devoid of will which, in the hands of a human, can produce a specific outcome. It's the human element that taints what we could otherwise enjoy for the unquestioningly fascinating topic that is AI art and, by extension, AI software as a whole.
Now, the problem isn't people, period, but the kind of people that are responsible for giving AI the bad rep it's been getting, along with the intent that goes into both the development of AI tools and the things produced by dint of said tools. I'm talking about the tech bros happily rubbing their hands, waiting to provide business moguls with a brand new means to commodify and mass-produce what artists stake their entire livelihoods upon, because when you have enough zeroes lined up in your bank account, your eyes are utterly blinded to the soul and personality that human beings put into their handiwork, and which a machine won't ever be able to reproduce no matter how much stolen art you feed it. Oh yeah, by the way, that's how AI art tools have been making the rounds: by chewing on thousands upon thousands of stolen pictures made by actual people so that they may learn how to ape someone's style and spit out absolutely soulless derivatives, while the original authors don't see a lick of recognition or monetary retribution for any of it. Do I need to tell you why stealing and parading someone else's art as your own is a terrible, vile thing to do?
But sure, you did ask me to refrain from "fearmongering, moralizing or bootlicking", which I guess I've already done. So since you'd rather I skipped straight to the point in a concise manner, lemme offer some quick examples of why the culture surrounding AI art has already developed into one of the most abysmally disappointing displays of how greed and an utter lack of human decency can ruin something objectively brimming with possibilities:
Less than a week after the sudden death of Korean artist Kim Jung-gi, someone trained an AI model to mimic his artstyle, having the audacity of asking for credits if anyone wished to use it. I sincerely hope I don't have to explain to you why this is a ghoulish example of the kind of tone-deafness sported by tech bros who buy wholesale into the AI art craze.
A piece of AI art was submitted to an art contest and won. The "artist"'s work amounted to little more than picking a series of prompts and letting the machine do the work. It's as much art as googling a smattering of terms and making a collage of pictures taken from Pinterest (and even then, you would have put more work into it than this person did). That they won at all says a whole damn lot about how abysmal the respect given to artists - real artists - nowadays is.
There are a multitude of people out there already selling prints of AI-generated art. I could link some of them here, but honestly, type "ai art prints" on a search engine and you'll get inundated by them. I've seen and personally know artists who have had to undersell their works because commissions were the only thin, frayed string they could hang on in hopes of making it through the week without fucking starving themselves, but here we are: any random asshole can now yell "MASSIVE BREASTS, THIN WAIST, COCKTAIL DRESS, HUGE BADONGAS" at a computer, let it mash together a trillion of other people's hard work, and print it for easy bucks that the actual authors of the basic ingredients of their insipid soup will never, ever see a dime of.
It really bothers me that you mentioned "no bootlicking". Whose fucking boots is this side of the debate supposedly tasting? That of the artists who post every day about how angry, sad and terrified they are by the prospects of what the development of AI art will entail for their livelihood and passion? What kind of gall did your mother birth you with that you have the spiteful spunk to type that word, when you've got shit like an artist who had their sketch stolen while they were drawing it on stream, then fed to an AI and posted by someone passing it off as their own art? How does that not ignite your indignation? "Bootlicking". Like anyone's tongues have been tasting leather but those of the same tech bro chodes who kept trying oh so hard to convince us NFTs were the future while ruining the environment to make the absolute stupidest point ever made in the history of humanity.

Hey Tracy! Have you heard about the new Ai called Sora? Apparently it can now create 2D and 3D animations as well as hyper realistic videos. I’ve been getting into animation and trying to improve my art for years since I was 7, but now seeing that anyone can create animation/works in just a mare seconds by typing in a couple words, it’s such a huge slap in the face to people who actually put the time and effort into their works and it’s so discouraging! And it has me worried about what’s going to happen next for artists and many others, as-well. There’s already generated voices, generated works stolen from actual artists, generated music, and now this! It’s just so scary that it’s coming this far.
Yeah, I've seen it. And yeah, it feels like the universe has taken on a 'fuck you in particular' attitude toward artists the past few years. A lot of damage has already been done, and there are plenty of reasons for concern, but bear in mind that we don't know how this will play out yet. Be astute, be justifiably angry, but don't let despair take over. --------
One would expect that the promo clips that have been dropping lately represent some of the best of the best-looking stuff they've been able to produce. And it's only good-looking on an extremely superficial level. It's still riddled with problems if you spend even a moment observing. And I rather suspect, prior to a whole lot of frustrated iteration, most prompts are still going to get you camera-sickness inducing, wibbly-wobbly nonsense with a side of body horror.
Will the tech ultimately get 'smarter' than that and address the array of typical AI giveaways? Maybe. Probably, even. Does that mean it'll be viable in quite the way it's being marketed, more or less as a human-replacer? Well…
A lot of this is hype, and hype is meant to drive up the perceived value of the tech. Executives will rush to be early adopters without a lot of due diligence or forethought because grabbing it first like a dazzled chimp and holding up like a prize ape-rock makes them look like bleeding-edge tech geniuses in their particular ecosystem. They do this because, in turn, that perceived value may make their company profile and valuations go up too, which makes shareholders short-term happy (the only kind of happy they know). The problem is how much actual functional value will it have? And how long does it last? Much of it is the same routine we were seeing with blockchain a few years ago: number go up. Number go up always! Unrealistic, unsustainable forever-growth must be guaranteed in this economic clime. If you can lay off all of your people and replace them with AI, number goes up big and never stops, right?
I have some doubts. ----------------------
The chips also haven't landed yet with regards to the legality of all of this. Will these adopters ultimately be able to copyright any of this output trained on datasets comprised of stolen work? Can computer-made art even be copyrighted at all? How much of a human touch will be required to make something copyright-able? I don't know yet. Neither do the hype team or the early adopters.
Does that mean the tech will be used but will have to be retrained on the adopter's proprietary data? Yeah, maybe. That'd be a somewhat better outcome, at least. It still means human artists make specific things for the machine to learn from. (Watch out for businesses that use 'ethical' as a buzzword to gloss over how many people they've let go from their jobs, though.)
Will it become industry standard practice to do things this way? Maybe. Will it still require an artist's sensbilities and oversignt to plan and curate and fix the results so that it doesn't come across like pure AI trash? Yeah, I think that's pretty likely.
If it becomes standard practice, will it become samey, and self-referential and ultimately an emblem of doing things the cookie-cutter way instead of enlisting real, human artists? Quite possibly.
If it becomes standard industry practice, will there still be an audience or a demand or a desire for art made by human artists? Yes, almost certainly. With every leap of technology, that has remained the case. ------------------ TL;DR Version:
I'm not saying with any certainty that this AI blitz is a passing fad. I think we're likely to experience a torrential amount of generative art, video, voice, music, programming, and text in the coming years, in fact, and it will probably irrevocably change the layout of the career terrain. But I wouldn't be surprised if it was being overhyped as a business strategy right now. And I don't think the immensity of its volume will ever overcome its inherent emptiness.
What I am certain of is that it will not eliminate the innate human impulse to create. Nor the desire to experience art made by a fellow soul. Keep doing your thing, Anon. It's precious. It's authentic. It will be all the more special because it will have come from you, a human.

🎉I am now taking commissions!🎉
⬇️ Click readmore for more info ⬇️
If you are interested in my art and would like to support me in other ways considering checking out my itch.io and ko-fi pages.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Commission Items Offered:
Icons (25$)
Chibi Fullbody Illustrations (50$)
Sketch Illustrations (45$)
There are base prices (USD) and are not guaranteed final quote prices. Simpler designs may be cheaper while more complicated designs may incur a complexity fee (as will additional characters, etc.) To get a finalized quote please reach out.
Ordering Process:
Shoot me a DM or Ask about commissions. We can discuss what you're interested in getting and come to a conclusion on how to quote. Once we have a quote decided on I'll send a paypal invoice or a kofi item sale listing (I haven't used it yet so I'm excited to try it out), and I'll get started then. I will not start drawing until I have received at least half payment. Turn around time is about 2-7 days give or take how busy I am with work/if the queue is backed up.
Character References:
I do require some form of visual reference for characters, specifically for designing a character. I will accept Picrew mockups, stick figure poses, and pinterest boards as valid references. I will not accept AI generated references. (Not even on any moral ground but just because they're usually way too complicated and nonsensical)
Things I Won't Draw:
NS/FW is on a case by case basis. Some things squick me so I won't draw them, others are fine. I'm okay with most things but please ask first and do not assume an automatic yes.
Furries/Mechas just because I can't guarantee the quality.
Genderbends that are binary-to-binary. I find them reductive and hurtful. (Trans characters are a-okay obviously, I myself am trans)
Group shots of More Than Three characters (up to three is fine), I just don't have the mental fortitude for that many characters interacting. Ordering a bulk order of say, chibis or something is a different matter and is entirely up to discretion.
H*zbin H*tel anything. I'm sorry but they're so fucking ugly.
Things I Will Draw:
Ship art of any nature (OC x OC, OC x Canon, Selfship, etc etc, I'm not here to judge)
Pokemon, MLP, and Sonic style furries.
Design a humanized version/gijinka of a monster/furry/dragon/etc.
Design a DnD character
Any specific pose provided I'm given a reference
💖 Thank you for checking out my comms! 💖
and note: if you think my prices are low please don't comment "you need to raise your prices!!" I am aware they are on the lower end of things. I haven't taken commissions in 2+ years so I'm trying to find my footing. If you feel so strongly that I'm undercharging please commission me and tip what you think brings it up to a "fair" price.

Nearly every single modern computer utilizes cobalt, a mineral whose supply chain is so heavily dominated by slave labor that it's practically impossible to ethically source. Ignoring AI, it is even ethical to do digital art at all? The production of a drawing tablet is not a victimless crime.
I feel you when you want to reduce this to something as simple as a comparison. But bear with me (or alternatively, I put a tl;dr/conclusion at the end).
Much of capitalism is unethical - yes. I agree with this point completely. It's impossible to completely avoid unethical consumption in the world we live in. But it's good to be thoughtful of it and I think businesses and governments responsible for bad practice should be held accountable. Sadly I can't change the world on my own in any meaningful way, but i'll do my part where I can & vote people into power that care about this too.
Taking your comparison for a second, I feel like the art project of that OP was asking a much more direct "I bought cobalt I didn't need and then turned into a children's toy, could this be art?". And my reply was basically yeah sure it could be art, but was it worth it? My point is that I'm not sure on that last part, and leaning towards a 'no'. They specifically sourced it unethically and made that the center piece, which is distinct from the utilitarian nature of consumer electronics we need to get through our lives. Unethical sourcing of art can be a goal or statement (like here cw dead pets) but will then of course still be a part of it. I don't think ethics were considered for the post we're discussing though and it instead only discussed the very unproductive 'is it art' discourse. This, of course, matters about as much as my "dick" being objectively "long" or not.
Maybe getting a little sidetracked, but I also want to mention that cobalt is an extremely useful metal, whereas AI.. well.. i've mentioned the very human cost of mturk and the wholesale theft of the entire internet. There's also:
the power required
the jobs in art it threatens and therefore the skilled labor we stand to lose if we're not careful
the inevitable price hike and betrayal of the public as soon as alternatives are out competed (this will happen)
the risks of biases (racism, ableism, sexism) in an opaque weighted system like AI & the fact we cannot deal with this except for slapping some extra prompts in front
AI poisoning our actual collective knowledge with untrue shit. Recent cases in point being the hilarious fake mouse dick science being published and the ai generated inaccurate servals on google, but there's a lot more going on
the risks of companies and people in power using AI to more efficiently screw everybody over and hide behind 'machine told me so' accountability loopholes
the risks of AI being used in all sorts of malinformed use cases
But what are the gains? What do we stand to win? Call me cynical, but we already had an infinite amount of pictures at our fingertips, as well as all the mediocre writing you could ever want (but actually much better because someone loved writing it). I feel like all these general AI's are good for is filling the pockets of some very rich robber barons and grifters, as well as diluting everything that's beautiful and true in the world.
Quick sidenote - Some specialist AI have genuinely already improved the world, like with medical screenings, but even then it's hard to really call it a win because reverse engineering the reasoning of an AI is so fucking hard. And again, they're a slippery slope with insurance companies wanting a piece of that pie badly, just so they can apply their 'justified' penalties to people not even sick yet.
tl/dr; So in conclusion, no, I don't think your comparison holds up. I agree that it sucks that so much of necessary consumption is unethical in ways we can't easily fix as consumers. But one thing bad does not equate other thing good. If anything, it should inspire you to do better where you can make a difference and hold the ones responsible for the exploitation in this world accountable.
Don't let it eat you up though. I'm not even saying you can't use it for inspiration ever. But any art based on these generated pictures cannot be divorced from the ugly side we'd rather not see: the underpaid army of technically not slaves and the wholesale theft of everything.
also sorry but i couldn't not include this (source: matt bors)

the thing like ai makes me feel a very specific type of way which is almost indescribable but i'm going to try because if I don't I'll go insane
Like, I won't stop making art. Materially it will not affect me in the short term. I do not live off of commissions (but i could have chosen to go down that path) I am a graphic designer, AI directly influences the way I work and the things I make for work, not all of it is bad (generative fill is like. very good for photo editing) However we have been forced as a category of worker (because artists are, fundamentally workers, art is work) to become luddites because we are watching the end of a period in human history where this kind of profession is allowed to exist Like, knowledge will be lost lives will be impacted they came for the big tiddy furry artist first and i was too busy buying crypto to notice etc etc. but Idk i think of this in really practical terms because if I try to do emotional ones I'll go insane. Practically I am waiting for this to blow over (because it will! not unlike the blast radius of a fucking atomic bomb but even that blows over eventually, we'll just be turbo dead under it) and see whats left in the rubble to see what the fuck am I supposed to do with my life and my "skills" and my work right now
my country enacted a "labour" ""rights"" reform which means I'm essentially condemned to independent-contractorhood and will be forced to work until the day I die, pretty much, so I'm not worried about that, I've accepted that.
But i dont know what thats going to mean for me and about my art? I won't stop making art, I've always made art first and foremost for myself and for other people, the fact that a painting machine exists won't make me not want to do it, I do it because I like it.
But that's not the point, the point is that it's no longer a skill that requires high compensation Like there's a huge difference between looking at this in a very labour focused way in a very practical way and the emotional response this causes in artists
I think as people we have been conditioned to think of ourselves as the same as our occupation which under capitalism we might as well be but yeah as long as we need to do that thing to eat it's functionally true
so yes the world is looking at art and saying it is too expensive and we should do it for cheaper (as it does any other thing) but not that it's useless? just that the humans attached to it are useless
and its a very like. william gibson thing of. the capital will keep generating itself even if left alone it's grown a consciousness it'll just keep going and we don't matter to it. production is uncoupled from demand. profit needs to rise, you dont have to have a bad quarter to get laid off.
I am really just waiting to see what is going to happen once the AI bubble bursts because it will but not without damage,
there's no real conclusion to this i'm mostly just writing things down

i'm autistic (self-dx, which has been a 3 year process of self-research) + bipolar (diagnosed since i was 16) and i suffer endure a handful of physical disabilities. i'd appreciate some patience and empathy - especially when it comes to tone - but i get it if you don't give me any.
sometimes i'm a writer, sometimes i make art. most times i reblog weird stuff, depeche mode, and recoil (amongst other bands n things that i like/have a tHiNg about) and my askbox is always anon friendly (all i ask is that you're polite and i'll always treat you with the same respect you treat me, innit).
i like: minding my own business, coffee, bananas, foxes, mountains, weird stuff, memento mori/danse macabre stuff, historical stuff, spacey stuff, synthpop, weird spooky experimental music (iykyk), music in general tbh, films, writing, and keeping strange hours.
i dislike: kpop (sorry, i tried it, i don't like it), cottagecore, people who disrespect my country, culture, and native language in any way, being referred to as "british" (the current prime minister literally said it's synonymous with "english", and i am not english, and calling me that word is considered xenophobic), airbnbs, ai, terfs, scabs, and yk your general dickbaggery types (who i won't interact with).
favourite bands/artists: depeche mode, recoil, bastille, lights/lūn, childcare, bobby saffron, la dispute, blur, pulp, happy mondays, catatonia, fleur de lys, mari mathias... loads of 'em, all varying in genre + popularity.

strengths: fuck around & find out, bilingualism, weirdly accurate spidey senses
tHiNgs: ask me
url tl;dr explanation: "adlamu" (ad-lam-ugh) is the welsh word for "recoil" (or "recoiling"), who, yk, is one of my favourite music people huhuhuh.

Why "fearing" ai, especially ai art, is extremely non intersectional and potentially ableist or even eugenecist of you.
Posting this here cus thank god no one reads this blog but i'm frustrated over how disgusting y'all are acting.
Firstly, none of y'all fucks gave a single damn when klaus used ai to colour 2d drawings and people wanted to redefine 2d as being ok if all we see is computer generated.
None of y'all fucks even gave a damn when pixar tried to redefine 2d as 3d art with a 2d filter. So don't try to claim you give a damn about art when you were fine throwing everyone who's ever done 2d animation under the bus repeatedly. (this doesn't apply if you, like me, were there arguing against these fucks. You're fine. But you know the fucks i'm talking about "future of 2d, new frontier bluhbluhbluh")
In fact most of y'all fucks encouraged it and wanted your hands on the tech to use for yourself. so feck off with your fake ass concern
2.
The shit you claim ai is doing now. It's not. And i've seen some truly unhinged shit that's either 1. been disproven or 2. is just fully illogical.
Example A: The ai is stealing actual furry art scam that was REPEATEDLY proven to be false. But this sure went around on twitter and tumblr and then the people who literally faked it tried to pull some bs "it was a social experiment" "It was to show how it could end up" nonsense. Fuck you.
Example B, the only case i've seen a job "stolen", word used FUCKING loosely: In a comments section i saw a dude explained that for his souvenir photography shop, their boss is using an ai to colour correct the photos and the photographers aren't allowed to change the settings on the camera (implied: because the ai won't work unless it has specific camera settings).
So this dude thinks the photographers job got stolen because the photographer can't adjust the camera settings and because his job description changed from colour correcting to checking that the ai hasn't messed up. Homeboy wasn't fired/ctx
To explain to you, in case you genuinely have no knowledge of history or how things work in job markets /gen:
These things have been happening since the industrial era and yet i'm not seeing a single one of you arguing for us to go back to pre machinery sweat shops for young girls. Cus y'all do realise that pre machinery, in history, the norm was FUCKING SWEAT SHOPS in the global north, right?
Job loss is bad, yeah, and it was super fucking bad for the people who had typewriting jobs when the computer came. A lot of people either pivoted to the computer and if they couldn't, they lost their job. However, how many of you, genuinely, who currently own a business, even a small one, wants to go back to only using a typewriter? /genq No google docs, no google calendar, no printing receipts or packing labels. All written by hand (rip fellow dysgraphics) or by typewriter just so that you can hire some of the ex type writers who are now retired and lost their job in the past? I'm gonna venture not many of you are willing to make that decision in terms of being conservative of jobs. Especially if you own a modern small business.
Let's say you are one of the people who lost their job to computers becoming the norm. Did you once think the computer was sentient and actively trying to replace you? I'm not asking if you got angry at the computer replacing you, i'm asking if you thought the computer was alive and walked into the office and said "Hey, i want a job and can do it better than Doris" and your boss said "hired" and fired you. Or, did you think your boss bought a MACHINE a TOOL (non sentient) that ended up replacing your job?
And Lastly if you were replaced by a computer. Did that makes authors extinct?/genq Even authors who handwrite or use a typewriter? Cus i have a bunch of nanowrimo stats to prove you wrong if you think that went away just because your job went away.
You might be wondering, why am i talking about this, especially the last one. The answer is really simple you see because THATS HOW THE ABOVE DUDE SOUNDED IN HIS FEAR MONGERING COMMENT He heavily implied that the "AI" replaced "HIM" and that it will continue and ripple out and replace ALL photography always and forever.
Which btw last i checked for freelance photographers, i thought y'all did your own colour correction or is that just for small businesses?/genq And for tourist photographers where it's sometimes an entry level part time job, i thought the ones who were doing it not as a passion already didn't mess with camera settings that much cus y'all didn't give a shit about the job if they treat you like shit and pay you less than minimum wage. And didn't the photography business get this already where things shifted when we went from physical film to print? Was that a catastrophe? cus y'all seem fine and like y'all survived but idk maybe there was a mass genocide i didn't hear about due to us stopping the use of substances with carcinogens. (heavy sarcasm incoming) Maybe not using carcinogens is what's actually killing us/s
Lastly why tf do the arguments in response to ai have a net total of 5 minutes of knowledge of human history????? If you know shit about the history of technology and humans oppressing other humans, something in you should be getting weird vibes from the arguments people are making currently. And yet i keep seeing people arguing that if you don't support being anti ai (of all forms, even as accessibility tools) then you're actively taking money from a freelance artist that you have never met and would never purchase from, even if you would never pay for ai art. Which is not how the economy, facts, money, human rights or customers work??????
So many people will say art is a luxury product when people wanna price gouge artists but not say it when artists are harassing people for not buying their shit (istfg if you dare say that hasn't happened once in history then fuck you, it's not just people on tumblr who are artists and drawing isn't the only form of art. Problematic and bigoted people exist everywhere, even in the small business freelance world.)
Not to mention the issue with losing your job isn't the tool that replaced you ITS THE FUCKING SYSTEM THAT REQUIRES YOU TO HAVE A JOB TO BE ABLE TO EAT! YOU'RE SPENDING YOUR ENERGY PROTESTING THE TIP OF THE SWORD WHEN YOU SHOULD BE PROTESTING THE ARMED GUARD WHO ARE USING THE SWORDS OR THE RULING GOVERNMENT THAT SANCTIONED THOSE ARMED GUARDS TO EXIST! And if you don't wanna protest for a system change to ensure that no one ends up jobless and only care if you get a crappier title, then i dislike you.
Tldr of this section: I'm sorry but if you're gonna induce a world ending (aka genocide level) threat, then i'm gonna need more than just "i wasn't even fired, i just do something different at a normal non specialised job", otherwise i'm gonna assume at best you're ego is bruised and at worst actually that fucking priveleged that you think having a job description change, when people are losing their jobs for unrelated reasons to ai, is actively oppressing you. Or that you're trying to water down the concept of what a threat is in which case i actively dislike you as an individual. Extrapolating that a literal computer program will end the photography business because your job description changes due to a shitty decision from your human boss and due to the shitty decisions the government makes to make income security a privilege and not a right, makes no sense.
3. Here is shit ai actually has done:
It's found a fucking antibiotic, i repeat AN ANTIBIOTIC! A NEW ONE! AND ITS WORKING! OUR LAST ONE WAS DECADES AGO! DO YOU NOT REALISE HOW FUCKING IMPORTANT THIS IS FOR DISABLED PEOPLE YOU PRIVELEGED LITTLE SHIT?!??!?!?! (this doesn't apply to the people who are excited for this, if you're not excited (excluding mental illness reasons like depression) for this despite knowing how many people die due to antibiotic resistance then block me now, your energy is fucking rancid)
made colouring 2d animated work easier aka more accessible
helped make other art things accessible to disabled people
Outed people as problematic if not as literal alt-right people or even neo-nazis based on the shit they're spouting as "valid" arguments towards a potential sentient being capable of emotion.
4. Here is shit ai hasn't done based on my research which is inherently limited. Please provide actual proof and not the human faked posts that were going around on twitter:
copy actual drawing
do convincing art from just a text prompt (there's a v funny youtube series where someone tries to get chat gpt to draw a simple circle, it sadly can't, cus it's not sentiently aware of what it's doing)
be able to write anywhere near like a human would communicate for anything longer than
Be sentient about any of the above or show understanding that it knows what art even is.
Be able to make autonomous choices unrelated to what it's learned
Made you have bigoted ideals, that's you, not a fucking random computer, take responsibility for your actions as an actual sentient human
Lastly, let's assume, ai, becomes sentient. Why THE FUCK is the main argument in "managing" it, GENOCIDE?!?!?!?!?
Anyone who is on team "just shut it down/turn it off" instead of "hey let's raise it with love and kindness. And if we don't and it becomes hostile, then it'll be very hard for an ai who is only trained in communicating with humans, to become a world class hacker, despite having no training on that front. And even making a rudimentary shitty ai costs much more energy and time than we should use. And even replicating it takes so much time and physical electrical volt/watt energy so the concept that the ai can replicate itself in a split second and evilly take over the world is illogical at best."
No, no. Instead let's decide "yes i wanna keep my right to kill living life forms because i'm scawed UwU"
Fuck all you fucking fucks who aren't even veiling your genocidal agenda. Fuck you.
Guess what you fucking motherfucker. WE ALREADY HAVE TOP HACKERS WHO ARE SENTIENT AND GUESS WHAT HAS HAPPENED YOU FUCKING FUCK. WE DONT NEED TO FUCKING KILL THEM TO KEEP THEM IN CHECK HOLY SHIT. What is it. With y'all fucks in the global north. And just wanting to murdermurderstabstab anything that is different or as "revenge"?!?!?!!??!?!? Y'all need 20ccs of barbie movies during your childhood and it shows. Fucking hell.
You fucks will use "i'm scared" and other forms of "fear" as a defense but use it to bear your fangs and rip into the first best example you see without making sure it's even a threat or that you are even being threatened because to you privileged fucks, being slightly uncomfortable is what you interpret as oppression. You're not fucking scared. You're hateful and bigoted. Check yourself. Cus you're not helping anyone and you're putting people in danger by having that mentality. Cus thinking you can be objective enough to not turn on other actual sentient beings, when one of your main arguments against a sentient being, is killing them. That's just not how anything has *ever* worked.
Not to mention. IF THIS IS FUCKING PLAN A. TF IS PLAN B.
TF IS PLAN B
THE AI "GETS OUT" AND FINDS OUT THE ONLY PLAN IN EXISTENCE FOR IT WAS GENOCIDE.
ARE YOU EXPECTING THAT TO GO OVER WELL?!?!? FOR AN INFANT NEWBORN CHILD?!
HAVE NONE OF YALL FUCKS READ FUCKING FRANKENSTIEN?!?!?!? LIKE:
The keep reading thing didn't work so to protect people from potentially flashing images, instead imagine, if you can, that there is a gif here of someone screaming in anger and frustration and pain.
Feel free to let me know if i say smth bigoted but not if it's the fucking "you're just saying adapt or die" argument CUS ITS NOT FUCKING TRYING TO KILL YOU ITS NOT FUCKING SENTIENT. IF YOU DARE FUCKING ARGUE THAT AI IS TRYING TO ENACT FUCKING GENOCIDE WHEN ACTUAL FUCKING GENOCIDES ARE HAPPENING THEN I WILL NOT HOLD BACK MY WORDS!
MY PEOPLE DID NOT SURVIVE THAT FUCKING SHIT ONLY FOR SOMEONE LIKE YOU TO TRY TO FUCKING WATER DOWN THAT TERM AND IT'S IMPLICATIONS!!!

"I don't understand," Greg said as he stared at the little green army guy in his hand. It was missing a leg, and crusted in dirt in that way where you knew it was permanent somehow.
I shrugged. "It's an old lost toy. Not really a lot to understand." I was sitting on a low wall that divided the park from the quaint little "downtown" area, watching a squirrel zip around doing nothing in particular. Greg looked up at me from his spot in the grass and furrowed his brow - he clearly thought I was being difficult.
"Lost by who? When? There has never been a child here. Nobody ever lost a toy in this park." "Yeah, okay. And? There's also not really air or grass or whatever, but I don't see you complaining about any of that," I said, but this didn't seem to make Greg happier. "That's different, and you know it. And speaking of grass, it's all... patchy." "It's not patchy. It's... I mean, there are patches -" "Which means they grass is..." "- but it's not patchy. A few very small variations in the density of the grass doesn't make the whole park patchy. Next you're going to get upset about the dandelions." "Actually, yes. They're weeds. They don't belong in the park. There's a field, I think, somewhere past the edge of town? You can put dandelions there."
He stood up, and then looked down at his knees in dismay. "Why are my knees dirty?" "You were down in the dirt." "Yes, but surely we don't need dirt to get things dirty. You're trying too hard. Make it cleaner, get rid of the weeds and patches, and no more lost toys or old bottle caps or whatever else you've done with my town."
Greg walked out of the park, and I swiveled on the wall to step off onto the sidewalk. He hadn't gone far before noticing some more weeds and grass sprouting around the bottom of a lamp post, but he just sighed and shook his head. We continued on, and Greg made mostly positive comments about the shops. "This is good. I like this. Wait, why is there a hardware store?" "In case someone wants tools, or some wood, or... you know, stuff you'd find in a hardware store." "I… why would… I have several problems with this, I don't really know where to start. The diners I understand. People want to sit around a table together and eat something. Fine. The book shop I know was a demand from Karen Hawthorne, so that makes sense. But the hardware store... why would we need a hardware store?"
"Well strictly speaking we don't need any of this shit, Greg." "Language." "Sorry. Strictly speaking we don't need any of this fucking shit, Greg." "You're exhausting." "The feeling is mutual. Look, you wanted this town to feel like... well, a town. Right? And that means shops, but the only ones I was told to put here were the restaurants, the book shop, and an art gallery. There's the theater too, and the banquet hall, but if you want it to be a town you need other stores. Why not a hardware store? People might want to make something with their own hands instead of having it handed to them." "But why?"
I didn't answer. We walked past some of the other businesses I'd put in, the arcade and the mini golf place and the record store. Greg looked more annoyed at each one, but he lost it when we got to the thrift shop. "Absolutely not." "Why?" "A thrift shop? There's no money. We can have anything we want! Why would you go get used clothes, when you can have brand new outfits every day forever?" "Because it's... I don't know, it's fun to poke around in a thrift shop!" "Just... get rid of it." "No."
Greg froze. "No? No? I'm your boss, you remember that right? I've been very patient with you so far. You've filled my town with weeds and trash and god knows what else and you're going to remove all of it including this thrift shop." "I put a lot of work into that." "You shouldn't have." "The stock is procedurally generated, I scrubbed the archive of eBay and trained an AI specifically to -" "I don't care. It's gone."
We walked a little further, and when I realized what was coming up on our left I took a deep breath and prepared for the outburst. Instead, when Greg saw the abandoned house he just sighed, and shook his head. "We're done here. You're fired. I'll have someone else deal with fixing all of this, or... I don't know, maybe we'll start from scratch. I don't know where that leaves you, technically you're only in this neighborhood because you were hired on as a designer so really I should be disconnecting you, but with communications down I don't know if there's even another neighborhood left to send you to. I don't know. I can leave you with a house, somewhere. Something simple, so long as you don't cause trouble."
Greg pulled up a menu, options glowing in the air in front of him. But when he attempted to select something there was a red error window that popped up. "Greg, editing is currently locked. If you're trying to revert the neighborhood to the default model it's not going to work." "Well log out of the editor, or whatever you need to do." "Ah. Yeah. Okay so here's the thing, it's not that I'm actively editing - I've just set permissions in a way that only members of the design team can change things. And I'm the only one on the design team."
He rolled his eyes, then went back to work flipping through menus. "Well, I'll just put myself on the design team and... wait." Another red error window had popped up. "Yeah, also I made it so you can't do that." "I'm in charge of this virtual community, I can do whatever I want." "I mean... yeah, originally. But then you made your nephew the head of IT and he's incompetent. So when I kept asking him to do things for me so I could get this place designed he got lazy and gave me full access. And then I put myself in charge. Because of course I did."
"If you don't put me back in control, I'll..." He just trailed off. There was no way to end that sentence. Communications were cut off, which meant probably the bombs had started flying out in the real world. It was just us, two thousand two hundred and sixty-one people in a virtual town. And none of them could make me do anything I didn't want to do.
"Greg, listen. I'm not trying to be an asshole. I genuinely think that most people will enjoy themselves more if there are little imperfections around here. A spooky old abandoned house, an overgrown car in the woods, a lost bag of marbles under the porch as if they belonged to a previous owner. It's not just weeds, Greg. There are caves up in the mountain, with fossils and an old mine and even reproductions of some actual prehistoric cave art. There are rotting stumps covered in cool mushrooms. There are secrets. There are stories. I promise, this is what you need. We're here forever, Greg. Perfect lawns get old."
His face was turning red, bordering on purple. That was me too, the default limits on facial expressions made it seem like everyone was pumped full of botox. He finally managed to get some words out through gritted teeth, "I swear I will find a way to remove you. Physically. I'll have the maintenance bots rip your brain out of the array and throw it into the compactor."
I nodded. I'd expected nothing less, but had hoped that Greg wouldn't force my hand so quickly. "Okay. Yeah, do what you gotta do." It wouldn't be easy for him, probably wouldn't even be possible at all, but you never know. "I'll leave the default neighborhood model running, it's missing a lot of the features people have asked for and it's extremely... well, flat, but the lawns are perfect so maybe you'll want to just stay there. I think over time you'll come around to my way of thinking."
He teleported away, and I wandered off down the street - feeling the cracked and uneven pavement beneath my feet and smiling.

"A fair day's pay" with what money, exactly? Independent devs aren't all like huge corporations with budgets they can allocate. In fact some of them might be dirt-ass poor and only getting by with technology they did not purchase themselves. Are you saying these people are not allowed to also ensure their own survival? Furthermore, what about those who are disabled and can't create their art using more traditional methods? Are you saying they need to pay up, too?
"if you cant afford to pay people, you dont deserve to run a business" has not changed from last post to now. if your project requires art that you cannot pay for or create yourself, then you'll have to save your project until you can. and you dont need a big budget to get some art. scale down your vision if you have to. i also highly doubt your indie game project is going to ensure your survival, im not saying you cant be the next ultrakill or whatever, but the chances are low, specifically if your only way of making it work is AI art.
Also your last point is fucking invalid because in what world is this hypothetical game-dev abled enough to programm an entire game requiring (presumably) huge swaths of art but too disabled to make ANY sort of art? even if we are talking about a disabled person who actually cannot create art due to their limitations, AI is not going to let them do that either. Because it actually does involve quite a bit of typing and filtering through stuff, its not entirely automated. but its cool that you invoke the disabled to win internet arguments, really speaks to your character and those of AI art defenders in general

i saw a post with this video compilation of a bunch of manufacturing machines and it made me think about the AI debate. These machines are unquestionably some of the most useful inventions to the manufacturing process. Everyone loves How It's Made. I don't think your average person would have any strong opinions about these machines, specifically. No, if they did have an issue, it would be about the wider labor practices and environmental impact that these machines allow, and how they put people out of work because one machine could replace 100 workers, or, in products like furniture, cookware, metalwork, printing, etc, they took the artistry out of the products. What was once a handmade table with intricate carved details is now a slab of particle board painted black.
But it's not the tool's fault, it's capitalism. Industrial manufacturing machines allow for cheaper goods that can be produced on a scale that would allow everyone to have one if they wanted. That is not a bad thing. You can make quality goods at scale. But now artisans are few and far between and therefore their goods are now luxury items. You have to pay a premium for something that used to be common.
But again, the machine didn't cause this, we did. The system exploited the benefits these machines give for monetary gain.
-
AI is a tool, too. It is neither good nor bad. The system, the way it might be used, is at this point nebulous. No company that needs to get art for something is really going to fire all their artists just to have a very shitty rendering of some vague idea they typed in. And even if they did, they would still need artists to fix the crappy job the AI did so why have AI do it in the first place?
I see the most complaints about AI from people who made art as a hobby and turned it into a business (with an online following and taking commissions and such). But they have even less of an argument. Sure, maybe I could type in "in the style of X internet artist" to some prompt and get some mismash of your art style, but do you really think the people who follow you would do that instead of commissioning you?? And even if they did, who cares? The argument for pirating applies here too; money wasn't deducted from your bank account every time an AI spits out something that is a mashup of your, and hundreds of other artist's, styles.
What an AI image generator does is the definition of Free Use, it's impossible for it to create a direct copy of any one image. You can tell it to generate the Mona Lisa and you won't get the Mona Lisa, you'll get an amalgam of scans, pictures, alternate versions, and completely unrelated stuff mixed together to create something that is what the AI thinks the Mona Lisa is. If that's not transformative then I don't know what is.
What people are getting mad about is the perceived future of the art world where the artist is dead and AI generated art has killed them. That's not gonna happen, sorry. Did an industrial bread maker kill off all bakers everywhere? Did furniture makers go extinct because of IKEA? Some industries had it harder than others during industrialization but you get my point. I realize the situation isn't 1:1, because, come on, I think the impact of the AI is not gonna be nearly as catastrophic as industrialization. Chill the fuck out.
As for the copyright law stuff: 🫵 LOL DUMBASS CARES ABOUT COPYRIGHT. aww you got your own little IP? gonna sue me if i make derivative works? call the police cus i downloaded your art? i bet you jumped for joy when chuck tingle wanted to shut down the internet archive. grow up.

I think it’s time I announce something.
With the rise of all of the AI art in the community, and the upkeep of newer AI-generating art applications such as Midjourney, ChatGPT and Stable Diffusion, there’s clearly been an equal, if not more significant amount of protest against it.
I’ve had a couple anonymous people in my ask box wonder what my stance on this is, and after seeing such strong opinions on how this is taken across the board, I feel like I have the ability to say I’m quite biased.
my *quite unpopular, very controversial opinion* is that I really can’t say much on the matter at all.
my father works at the forefront of this industry. From what I know, he’s taking his own models and not only training them on public domain photos, but also coding his own algorithmic models to be able to use for himself. He’s working to create versions of the Stable Diffusion model that will let you accurately provide a picture of yourself to turn into the opposite gender, with an aim at providing some clarity for gender-curious people.
this kind of thing makes him so happy, and everything he does is based on his own prompts or his own pictures. His models are trained, yes, and I’m not sure where from, but he means no harm by being a business owner with a nerdy personality and playing around with AI art generation.
I’m disappointed and yet understanding of the issue people have with these models being trained on art or people tweaking pictures to their own liking and calling it “their art” because they ran it through a program. But I don’t think the problem exactly lies in the models themselves.
People aren’t looking around wondering what they can make their models steal that day. It’s not the developers that are making people so fucking brutal about their hive-minded opinion; it’s the fear of not being able to keep their own work safe.
And I get it. But get over yourselves for a second, respectfully, because some people feel like we’re being personally attacked for being at the front of the development in this community. It feels like first-hand bullying, like we’ve done something completely and utterly criminal and nobody will look at us the same.
which, part of it I expect. I kind of like what it’s done. For the sake of science and artistic expansion, I’m all for it. But as an artist myself, I’m equal parts gung-ho and ‘no, thank you’ when I think about my pieces being used in a model. The thought of my art being stolen makes me terrified. But I’m curious to know what it will bring us.
I don’t want un-artistic people to be able to get their hands on this stuff and believe they’re better than the people who slaved for hours on their own art simply because they knew what words to put in a generator (believe me, people are fuckin’ SPECIFIC), but I want it to become a power tool; a backbone. And I think that seasoned artists are afraid to use it as their own.
TL;DR:
It’s time I speak about AI art. My opinion is that while I’m hesitant to either let my art into the programs or use it myself and feel comfortable letting other people use my style, I’m afraid when it comes to things like style-stealing. But, I think that it’s an amazing tool with well-thought-out programs and models, people are just too afraid to see it or use it. But the people with the hive-minded opinion of “fuck all people who participate, go kys” need to take a breather and remember they’re bullying real people when they say things like that. Like me. And my dad. My father works with AI-generation companies. So back the hell off, respectfully. :)

Hey, I'm Tormie!
You can also call me Tor. Whichever. I'm an artist! I also write.
I intend to post a variety of different things for One Piece -- ship art, general/non-ship art, fluff, memes and shitposts, sfw, nsfw, whump, gore/body horror, blorbo appreciation, and so on -- so hopefully there'll be something here for everyone! I may also post things for other fandoms or for original characters, but I have a separate blog for ocs so I probably won't post too much of that here. I will always try to tag my posts and artwork accurately, especially when it comes to potentially triggering subjects. I have a blog specifically for reblogs @grand-line-tormie.
Do not repost any of my artwork or use it for AI. Reblogs, however, are welcome and greatly appreciated!
Here there be freaks, and here freaks are welcome. Let's be weird and fucked up and into weird and fucked up things together <3 (This should go without saying but I'm gonna say it anyway: Me writing about, talking about, or drawing something does not mean I endorse it in real life. Cool? Cool 😂) My blog is not intended for minors.
My pronouns are it/its. I won't smite you if you use he/him for me, but it's not really my preference lol. However, both gender neutral and masculine gendered terms are welcome! Feminine gendered terms are also fine but better saved for silly or joking contexts.
Bigotry, hate speech, and so on are NOT welcome. TERFS are not welcome. I'm not interested in starting or engaging in discourse, so racists, homophobes, transphobes, bigots, zionists, and the like will be blocked expeditiously. Like just be chill and I'll be chill back.
Commissions: open!
Look below the cut for askbox info and info on my tagging system!
Some common general tags I'll be using: -#tor draws for anything with my own artwork in it -#tor thinks for original posts just talking and sharing my thoughts, whether fandom or unrelated. -#tor answers for answered asks. -#tor speaks for announcements. -I will usually tag fandoms where applicable, characters in the post, ships in the post, and any other relevant aspects.
Some common CW tags to look out for or block according to need: -#nsfts for explicitly nsfw posts and artwork, or for posts with links to explicitly nsfw fics or artwork (because I expect tumblr won't let me post certain things and I may have to share links to those things instead) -#suggestive for posts and artwork that are risque or mildly nsfw in nature but don't describe or depict anything explicit -#nsfwhump for posts and artwork that are nsfw and depict noncon -#gore for all posts and artwork with excessive amounts of blood or graphic depictions of severe injuries -#cartoon gore for posts and artwork with excessive amounts of blood or depictions of severe injury that are described or drawn in a cartoonish way -#body horror for posts and artwork with body horror, particularly when depicted in intense or grotesque ways. I won't be using this tag for the canon-typical body horror that's often seen in One Piece -- for example, Luffy's rubber powers or Buggy's chop-chop powers -- unless I am specifically talking about or drawing them in ways intended to invoke disgust, discomfort, or horror, with the main focus of the post or image being on the body horror in question. -#blood for posts and artwork with excessive amounts of blood in them. I probably won't use this tag for posts that only have small amounts of blood in them unless the blood is somehow the focus or part of the focus. -Additional tags for relevant triggering subjects will be added when applicable.
Askbox rules: -Just don't send me bigoted shit and we're most likely good 👍🏾 Asks and anons containing hate or bigotry will just be deleted. -Don't ask me to write or draw anything suggestive or nsfw about characters who are minors. -I will do my best to answer asks and anons quickly! But if I don't get to it right away, I'm not ignoring you, I'm probably just busy.
I will try to make sure my artwork has image descriptions in the alt text. If I forget to add an ID somewhere and you'd like me to add one, please let me know! I'll either edit my original post or add a description in a reblog.

OTHER SHIT THAT KINDA MAKES ME UNCOMFY(??) (TW FOR THE LAST ONE)
• being referred to as ‘child’ unironically. if its for a joke, then go for it! but if you like. genuinely refer to me as ‘child.’ please Do Not. especially if you’re younger than me. not only does it make me irked as all hell, but it makes me feel incredibly frustrated. essentially just don’t infantilize me i’m an adult and would prefer to be taken seriously from time to time.*
this also goes with being treated as a child. while i’m aware i may act childish from time to time, do not fucking babify me. do not woobify me. do not treat me like i am a little kid. i will fucking bite you. i am an adult, treat me as such.*
• being called “sister” or “mom.” ANY OTHER NICKNAME IS FINE!! if we’re close and its for a joke, by all means- go for it. but please dont call me “mom”, “sis/sister” unironically . i will send an angry swarm of bees to your home
• being referred to as ‘smol bean’, ‘small bean’, ‘a cinnamon roll’. i will literally turn you into a smoothie so help me god.
• coming into my dms to ask for requests. unless i know you or we’re close, please do not come into my dms to ask me to draw your requests. i’m just going to ignore you.
• (TRIGGER WARNING)* actually this is a really heavy one but if you joke about s/a i am straight up hard blocking you. that shit is not funny. it will never be funny. you’re weird. get out GET OOOUTT. FUCK YOU. /srs
