Advancing Road Construction & Safety 2.0: Mr. Akhilesh Srivastava Led a Global Conference in 2022
India is building highways more quickly than ever. By setting a goal of building 100 km of roads each day over the next two years and taking actions to put road safety measures into place, the Government of India has given the highest priority to safe and sustainable infrastructure development with scale and speed.
The conference's goal was to identify and encourage new technologies that will hasten social and economic growth under the theme "Building Sustainable Infrastructure with New Age Technologies and Road Safety 2.0." At the Global Road Building & Safety Conference 2022 (GRC - 2022), which took place on November 30, the Taj Palace in New Delhi, Delhi, experienced the warmth of engaging discussions on breakthrough technologies that can alter the future of road safety, road construction, and financing in India and globally too.
Tumblr media
As Chairman of the organising committee, Shri  Akhilesh Srivastava, a Global Technology leader, emphasised that modern technology is essential to enhancing road safety. The fact that fatalities on roads increased by 16% in 2021 compared to 2020 is evidence that the traditional approaches to road safety are not working as intended. This is true despite all efforts by MoRTH's and NHAI. With the use of AI, Telematics, and Data Analysis, the session discussed safety precautions. In addition to the sophisticated traffic management system on the highways for improved enforcement, Mr Akhilesh emphasises that we need technology to help drivers to keep them alert and make them safer. Similarly we need technology in vehicles like ADAS to make it intelligent to avoid collisions and accidents.
Sustainable Infrastructure & Building Green with Road Safety 2.0 and New Age Technologies was the conference's theme, which CRRI organized with assistance from Ease of Doing Business (EODB). As the chairman of the organizing committee for the "Road Construction & Safety Conference (GRC - 2022)," he started fascinating discussions on cutting-edge technology in the construction sector through a rare convergence of government, Business, and academia. As a result, how roads are built, financed, and safely maintained in India may be redefined.
More than 50 speakers from Government, IITs, Industry and Experts from various organisations participated in the GRC-2022 conference, which was spread over 11 sessions of talks and presentations over a long day without a tea or coffee break and a jam-packed agenda up till 9 PM. Over 400 participants from India and beyond attended the conference, including representatives from the equipment business, IoT experts, and drone operators. More than ten senior government officials from Niti Aayog, CPWD, MoRTH, NHAI, CRRI, RITES, and IRCON were among the speakers. There were also more than 20 speakers from leading companies in the industry, including Ashoka Buildcon, L&T, 3M, G R Infraprojects Ltd, Cube Highways, OSE, Keltron, Park+, Humasafer App, BITCOL, HP, Indian Oil, and more.
These five main themes were the subject of the stimulating discussions:
1. Innovative technologies for building roads that reduce costs and save time.
2. New environmentally friendly and sustainable building materials with the least amount of carbon emissions.
3. Modern technology for reducing traffic deaths.
4. New financial developments in the transportation sector, and
5. A step toward achieving Net Zero in road construction and lowering carbon emissions.
The budgetary allotment has grown from INR 33,414 crores (Financial Year 2015) to INR 1 83,101 crores (Financial Year 2022). But to create and maintain better and safer roads, we must develop new financial strategies since we can only rely on government assistance for a while. The government initiatives for new finance models through InvIT, TOT (Toll Operate & Transfer), and SPVs were highlighted by Mr Sajany Varma, General Manager (Fin) NHAI. The speaker emphasised that InvITs would soon be listed on the stock market so that retail investors could trade units, giving the average person a chance to invest in infrastructure projects.
Mr Akhilesh Srivastava launched an innovative "School Zone Road Safety Portal" created by IRF in partnership with 3M and Proactive Foundation. The portal is going to be a real game changer to road safety around schools In India. One out of every ten RTI-related fatalities of children between 0 and 14 occurred. Only 17% of schools had speed limits posted on the road, and only 11.5% had school zone signage. How safe are our schools if kids are the most susceptible to road accidents near schools? The portal will record and highlight the discrepancy between road safety features required per the IRC and the road safety features available in the school by displaying it on a single dashboard. This will allow everyone to see the road safety vulnerability near the schools where their children are studying and to exert pressure on schools and the administrative and engineering authorities to make school zones safer for the children and address the shortcomings.
The portal's primary characteristics will be:
1. Schools are ranked according to ratings determined based on the presence of road safety features in the vicinity of the schools and presented on the IRF website.
2. Parents and residents can view information about school traffic safety.
3. For schools, road safety auditors, and engineering authorities & district administration, there are unique role-based login options.
4. Road safety features are scored and submitted quickly, making it simple for regular people to grasp.
5. If any action is not taken promptly, an escalation matrix will be used to scale the issues with the relevant top administrative authorities.
Dr Ambika Behl, who presided over the most critical session on How to minimise carbon emission in building a road- a step towards Net Zero emission in road construction, emphasised the necessity of using greener building materials and methods. However, because of the more significant expenses, Ms Atasi Das, Asst. The Vice President of G R Infra project Ltd. emphasised the industry's reservations about using these technologies. However, she emphasised that projects should be encouraged to adopt these by providing enough incentives and subsidies. In response, Senior Environmental Specialist of World Bank, Ms Neha Vyas, described the numerous programmes encouraging eco-friendly products and technology.
Conclusions
Shri Akhilesh Srivastava announced that the GRC-2022's crucial recommendations would be forwarded to the Ease of Doing Business for consideration by various Ministries to obtain policies that could help the construction industry and that the IITs and academia would be given the industry's needs to carry out research that is in line with the needs of the sector to realise the Prime Minister of Atma-Nirbhar Bharat's vision. But to create and maintain better and safer roads, we must develop new financial strategies too.

For both GAT-B and IIT JAM, i got to know from my professors. Had no idea about the exam or it's benefits. I didn't know about TIFR or any other exam so didn't attempt. But since I was badly idle during the lockdown and almost had the idea to be with the crowd, to get married. So inorder to distract myself, i started preparing somewhere around September 2021. Till December, i sorted the question papers by knowing from the professors which question belongs to what Unit.
I picked up only past 5 years questions and analysed the physics and mathematics part. I got 90% confidence to leave physics completely because PYQs were far from my reach even though I had been revising my physics concepts regularly. It would have wasted my time.
Coming to Mathematics, it was evident from the questions that majority were upto class 10th level and from +2 portions, only statistics, probability and trigonometry looked important to me. I was a crammer and highly laborious student at school so it was not difficult for me to recall these portions. I only prepared this much in mathematics and attempted all the questions correctly in the exam. (Note: I didn't have maths as a subject in my +2)
Chemistry, i love this subject. My highest scores ever are in this subject yet i betrayed myself by not taking it up in my graduation. Anyways, i loved organic chemistry more than physical and inorganic. In the PYQs i analysed, they're asking more of organic chemistry and from physical chemistry, only Chemical kinetics part. So inorganic chemistry can be left blindly.
Biology, 12+1+2+3, i.e upto graduation level is required. I was lacking badly in my graduation level biology so i analysed the paper and prepared for only specific units like Recombinant DNA technology, microbiology, biotechniques, biochemistry (only Enzyme and kinetics) and basic immunology. (I later covered some more topics but gave more emphasis on these topics)
I had completely restricted myself to study the least. From my previous experiences of competitive exams i had realised that i should focus on minimum input and maximum output. So i was determined to prepare less but more efficiently. Only when I was done with the targeted portions i would try to touch other topics.
I created an MS Excel sheet to keep a check on my revision cycle for each topic.(I'll share on my stories someday, have to search for it) I did all this preparation only in my free time. Nothing like serious dedications. Making life easy away from the unnecessary stress about competition.
Rest was Allah's Miracle.
Find your own strategy, yourself.
All the best.
:)

My university decided to give us the first shocker of the year- they decided to reopen
I've been wanting to go back to college since last year but now, when my exam is like a month away I hoped I could stay home and study. But things never go my way. Obviously. So they decided to reopen college soon. We still haven't gotten an official notice but it's been out in the local newspaper and meme pages (and we all know meme pages are better sources than our news channels 🙃)
38 Days to go
In the last couple weeks of my study routine I realised how much potential I have and how I should have studied like this the whole year round and not 2 months before exam -_-
Biochemistry is almost over, with just a few topics under Proteins remaining, and Lipids!
Maths is being still a headache but better than physics, I don't think I'm doing physics. I'm better off without that bitch.
And we are left with some major topics under biology which includes biotech, microbio and genetics. Cell bio is over. But it's easy so I don't really consider that an achievement. Why am I like this.
Organic chemistry has been treating me good (please tell me I'm not the only one who loves organic chem, 'cause I have come across too many haters).
Inorganic- One piece of advice I'd like to give to all competitive exams aspirants who have to study chemistry, please please don't try to "understand" Inorganic. Yes we need to understand and learn and stuff. I know all of that believe me. But there are some (lots actually) concepts in inorganic that you just have to let it go. Just learn what the theory is stating and how you can apply it on compounds or whatever? And move on. Not everything is supposed to make sense. I might sound like I don't make sense, but that's exactly how inorganic is. For eg I was recently studying Ligand Group of Orbitals. It was an attempt to prove MOT right, because it wasn't possible to draw the Molecular orbital diagram for Polyatomic molecules. Now we don't know how exactly the atoms exist and behave all the time, so the Ligand group of orbitals don't make sense except in theory. We did experiments, and we came up with theories. So inorganic (basically the whole chemistry) is just conclusion based on experiments (that's why the hundred Different theories). So study, try to understand as much as you can, but don't poke it much. If you feel like you're not getting something, don't worry. The people who came up with the theory were probably high when they wrote it. So just move on.
Not really a huge fan of physical chem because it's basically math and i hate math. But it's also scoring and i am not lagging behind so we good :)
I know I'm not really regular with this blog but you know what? Idc. I like to blog but only when I feel like it. Most of the time is spent studying or watching office so I don't really get a chance to blog everyday (yea that's just a pathetic excuse I'm just extremely lazy). But HAH COLLEGE MIGHT REOPEN AND IM SUDDENLY VERY NERVOUS I HAVENT BEEN TO COLLEGE IN A YEAR AND IT FEELS SO WEIRD NOW? Idk.

My internal exams are finally over and guess what? My semester end exams are starting from January 3rd
My college thought it's a good idea to drop the bomb just a week before the exam starts :)))
47 Days to go
I'm actually proud of myself for managing my time well last few days. I have been studying for internals, and the entrance as well.
Gave a couple mock tests, I scored low in the first one but once that was done I worked on my weak areas, gave it again, and there wasn't a huge improvement or something. But it was still better than the first one and I'm quite happy with that as well.
Other than that I need to finish maths and physics portion for biotech, and really study inorganic chemistry. And I hope I'll finish all of that soon!
In the next few blogs, I'm planning to just track my syllabus, and the number of mock tests I'm giving, the kinda score I'm getting and all.
Since I have opted for two paper test (they had an option where you could select two subjects for your exam, which will be held on the same day) I need to attempt mock tests according to the exam timings. This was honestly one of the best piece of advice I got in school. Because when you're sitting in the exam hall, at 9 A.M in the morning trying to attempt questions and you're also feeling hungry your won't be able to concentrate at all. You need to train your body to be exam ready during that period of the day. You can't suddenly wake up early one day and not feel sleepy during the exam. It takes practice more than anything!
More than anything, I just hope I clear the exam, have been trying too hard man😩
