THREE. Even if he rejects me, I won't give up so easily and allow someone else to steal my spot.
Tumblr media
Inviting Heather to hang out is a mistake. Having your friends around doesn't make you feel any less of a third wheel. It’s Heather who’s supposed to be the odd one out amongst your group, yet somehow it feels like the rest of you are the ones intruding. You can't bear to witness the shy glances and gentle smiles Minho and Heather exchange.
You're trying to come up with an excuse to break them apart without being the bad guy, when a crash comes to your rescue.
"Ah. My bad," Jisung apologizes, looking down at the glass he'd accidently knocked over. He'd been sitting next to Heather, and while the glass was fortunately intact, water had spilled onto Heather's lap.
"Looks like you’re the victim of Jisung's idiocy today." Hyunjin hands her napkins, attempting to ease her through the awkwardness with his charming smile. He shoots Jisung a withering glare, getting a sheepish look and shrug in reply.
"I guess I should get going," Heather says. She rises from her seat in a hurry, but a hand over hers gives her a reason to wait.
Hyunjin.
Minho's expression is closer to amusement than jealousy, watching as his friend calls his girlfriend - by her actual name, not the nickname you've given her.
Maybe Hyunjin's crush hasn't disappeared yet. If he and Heather get together, then Minho would be yours again. Everything would fall perfectly in place.
"We don't live that far from each other. I'll take you home." Hyunjin pauses, turning to Minho who's sneaking cake onto Jisung's plate. "If that's fine with your boyfriend?"
"Whatever she wants," Minho says with a shrug. He doesn't seem to be worried about Hyunjin stealing away his girlfriend, which boosts your confidence in your own chances with him.
"Yeah," you enthusiastically agree, nodding your head. "Hyunjin's a nice guy. Have a wonderful evening!"
Hyunjin narrows his eyes, scowling at you, instead of being grateful that you're helping him out. One day, he'll figure it out, and thank you.
You lean close to her so that only she - and Hyunjin, perhaps - can hear. "You might even fall for him instead of Minho."
Hyunjin scoffs at your words with an exaggerated eyeroll and drags Heather out the door before you can say anything else.
Seungmin leaves soon after them, muttering something about an assignment that you don't really bother paying attention to.
And then it's just Minho, Jisung and you.
"We should head home too," Minho says. He gets up from the table and grabs his jacket from the back of the chair. "It's movie night."
"Ah, right." Jisung sends you a wink, starting the next phase of your plan to set your story on track. "I've got some stuff I need to work on, so I'll have to trust you two to keep our tradition alive even if it’s not the same without me."
And then it was just Minho and you.
Tumblr media
It's usually easy to forget Minho's girlfriends exist when they're not around. Often they fade into the background even when they are around.
Yet you find yourself alone with Minho, head in his lap, too distracted to actually watch the show that's playing on the TV. Too much on your mind to even enjoy this moment.
Minho's texting someone, wearing a smile as soft as the one he usually gives you before he wraps you in a hug.
The someone in question must be Heather. After all, who else could it be? The only real rival you've ever had when it came to Minho's affection and attention is Heather, right?
If there's no struggle, then it won't feel as special when you finally end up together. Heather isn't the heroine. That title belongs to you. You're the one that's always been with Minho. No one else knows him like you do- well, maybe Jisung does. That's a different story though.
If you're the heroine, then why do you feel like you're in second place? Are you falling into a background role in your own story? Could it be you're simply a side character in this tale?
Minho's fingers run through your hair, breaking you out of your thoughts.
You're the one here with him, not Heather. You're the heroine, not her. There's still hope.
“I like you,” you blurt. It's far from the confession you had planned, especially since you weren't even the one who was supposed to be saying the words first. Sometimes you need to improvise to get the perfect scenes, so it's ok. “I like you so much.”
Minho’s hand stops stroking your hair. He doesn’t take it away, so you don’t attempt to sit up. You want to be close to him, for as long as you can.
Any moment now, he'll admit his feelings for you and you'll be the one beside him instead of Heather.
You know that, but if somehow these are the last moments you’ll have with him, you want to remember them being pleasant. Besides, you don’t exactly want to look at his face right now. The aftermath of a confession is more mortifying than you imagined, especially when you haven't gotten an answer in return.
“I know,” he says.
And that’s it. He doesn't say anything else. And you don't have the courage to ask what your words meant to him.
The couple on screen breaks up and eventually makes up, but you don't even remember their names anymore. Tears fall from your eyes and you wipe them away.
"I can't watch this anymore," you manage to whisper. It's not the drama that has you crying. You know it, and you know Minho probably does too. "I'll head home."
Minho doesn't try to stop you as you leave. As tempting as it is to turn back, you're too afraid that Minho's eyes won't be watching you.
Seungmin once explained some physics cat theory. Put a cat in a box with poison, and it could be both alive or dead as long you don't open it. If you don't check, the cat might still be alive. Something like that.
In your imagination, Minho is woefully watching as you walk away.
Tumblr media
After the confession, it's a little hard. Minho isn't actively avoiding you, except he kind of is. He has the perfect excuses, plus the universe seems to be on his side. It's natural for the hero of the story to have exceptional luck.
As the heroine, you don't seem to have the same advantage. If anything, there's just been obstacles to your perfect ending. The biggest one turning out to be Minho himself.
You thought you didn't have to do anything and everything would fall into place by itself. Then when you took a chance and confessed, you were turned down. But even if he doesn't feel the same way now, you can't give up yet. It hurt when you realized you weren't on the same page as him, but there's still time for him to catch up, right?
You run into him after class, and he has to catch you before you stumble to the floor. It's a scene straight out of the kind of anime you love to watch. A sign for you to take another chance, except Minho speaks before you can.
"No."
You haven't even said a word, and you’ve already been shot down. An arrow through your heart, but it seems cupid isn't on your side.
Are you that obvious? Could Minho read minds? Does he really not like you?
"What? I didn't even ask-"
"I won't go out with you."
Ah. Well. Minho hasn't told you that he doesn't like you, though you aren't sure if you could handle hearing those words straight from him.
"That wasn't what I was going to say," you lie. Your voice is strained, and you can't meet his eyes, so maybe it's not believable. But you can't admit the truth, can you? "I wanted to ask if you had any movie recommendations."
Minho raises an eyebrow. He's not fooled. Still he goes along with it and makes some suggestions. Not that you’re really paying attention to his words as much as how his voice sounds.
Minho. It's always been Minho.
And you were the constant in his life, at least until Heather showed up.
It's hard to admit that she might have stolen the role that was meant for you, but you can't move ahead without accepting that.
Turns out Minho isn't just on a different page. The title of the book doesn't match either.
You are lost, clueless of what lies ahead. There's one thing you're certain of though.
Even if you’re disqualified as a heroine, your only hero is Minho.

Chapter 2: Welcome to the Celestial Realm
That night was even more volatile than normal. Even knowing he was shipping out to Heaven in the morning didn’t help him worry less about the amount of anger his father was throwing around downstairs.
When he’d asked when they were leaving, neither mom knew for sure, just “early”.  Given the fact that his dad was especially volatile, Jake was half-dozing in his day clothes with his arms wrapped around his backpack.  Just in case he needed to sneak out the window and down to Nia’s. He’d packed a bag but he’d happily leave that behind if it meant being safe. He didn’t want to show up to the Celestial Realm covered in cuts and bruises. That was not the impression he wanted to make on actual angels, thanks.
When the sudden bright light flashed in front of his eyes, Jake was utterly unprepared. Theoretically, he should have been asleep, or in pajamas at least.  And if it had been any other kid, they probably would have been. Heck, Nia for sure was in her pajamas sound asleep at this time of morning.
When the light cleared, Jake looked around. Where am I? This looks like some kind of… Fancy Library…
He was sitting on the ground, in the same position he’d been sitting on his bed. His bag was nowhere to be seen, which was immediately stressful. To his left stood a young woman, about his age.  She was darker than Nia, with long hair the color of grape juice in a long braid down her back.
“Uh, hi.” He said quietly.  She turned and looked at him and beamed, reaching out a hand to help him up.
“Hey there, stranger. I expected you to be in your pajamas when they told me the other human exchange student was a completely normal guy.”
“Uh. Yeah. I… didn’t know when they were coming to get me, so…”
“Fair! I suppose it’s not normal to just go ahead and assume 3:47am.”
Jake gave her a look.  She seemed nice enough, but… there was something weird about her.
“You think I’m weird, I bet.” She said, and his jaw dropped open.
“Are you reading my mind?”
“No, you just have an expressive face. Also, it’s the normal kind of reaction any time magic’s involved. The angels should be here to greet us momentarily, but let me get started with you anyway.”
She stuck out a hand, covered in a soft black glove. “I’m Cheyenne, and I’m a witch.”
“Jake.” he smiled, and took her hand, giving it a shake. “I’m painfully normal. Also… I’m calling you Shiny from now on.”
Cheyenne paused, blinked, and nodded. “That’s cute as heck! I like it. You are allowed.”
“Yeah okay good. I nickname like… everyone.”
“That’s probably not going to fly so hot with the angels, just as a heads up.”
“No?”
“Yeah, they tend to be sticklers for process and. . . well, you’ll see.”
“You’re making me doubt the next year of my life and I’ve been here less than five minutes.”
“You made this choice, kiddo.”
“Well, technically my mother did, but. Kiddo? How old are you?”
“Oh, only 25. I just know you’re still in high school, so younger than me.”
“Mph.” Jake said eloquently, squelching whatever else it was that he was going to say as the door in front of them opened to admit a small group of people.
“Perfectly said. With that in mind, let me do the talking.” Shiny said, mostly under her breath, and Jake wondered what she knew that he didn’t. For a moment. And then he started wondering what she knew that he did know, because that was probably a far shorter list, given everything that had happened in the past three minutes.
“Welcome to the Celestial Realm, exchange students.”  The man speaking was a tall man with pale skin and piercing blue eyes. He was dressed in a pristine three-piece suit - white, with blue accents. His bearing reminded Jake of his father, and he had to clamp down on an immediate visceral dislike of the man.  It was just his coloring, Jake was sure. They looked like they could be family, after all. He was greeting them, and he was an angel. Besides, his mom promised he’d be safe. She’d put her own life on the line multiple times to keep him safe - he trusted her word.
“Greetings, Michael.” Shiny said, a smile on her face that Jake matched. He was good at smiling and covering up what he was really thinking. It was one of his best skills. Maybe he should go into business.
“Ah, Cheyenne.” Michael said, and if Jake didn’t know better, he’d think Michael’s smile dimmed for a half a second before settling. “How good it is to see you again.”
While Michael and Cheyenne greeted each other, Jake felt his eyes moving to the people behind Michael.
To his right was a man with light olive skin and long silver hair pulled back into a ponytail, whose red eyes were hidden behind glasses and mostly focused on what was probably his phone. He wore a long white coat that looked like it came straight out of The Matrix.
To his left was a man with short wavy indigo hair and cool, dark skin. His eyes were a similar blue-purple to his hair, and he was watching the both of them with a smirk gracing his lips. He was wearing a black skin-tight shirt with a white leather jacket and matching pants, studded all over in gold.
Behind the both of them was a man with a spear.  Jake initially took him for a guard of some type, because of the spear, but the way he carried himself implied more autonomy than just a guard.  His ash blonde hair was short but fell almost into his eyes, giving him a sleepy look. The eyes themselves were a glorious gradient of blue with a ring of purple around the pupil. Jake felt like he could drown in them. He was wearing a complicated top of multiple layers that left the vast majority of his chest exposed, a collared vest with long tails but only down his back, and a pair of what looked like a combination of black leggings with white harem pants over the top split down the sides.  He was easily the most attractive person that Jake had ever seen, and he had to tear his eyes away.
All in all, Jake felt weirdly like he fit in visually here. And also like he hadn’t been listening to a word of the conversation between Cheyenne and Michael. Oops.
“As I was saying.” Michael said, turning to pin Jake with a look that told him just how obvious his distraction had been. “The demons should be here shortly, and we’ll do introductions once, rather than repeat ourselves.”
Jake nodded, trying to stay engaged. It wasn’t working. His eyes kept looking anywhere but at Michael, interested in the room they were in, the books on the shelves, the incredibly hot (probably) angel with the spear that was avoiding his gaze…
He was startled from his distraction, once again, by an odd popping sound, and the appearance of two women. Two women who couldn’t be more different if they tried.
One of them was a deep red, as though she’d soaked in beet juice for months. Even what Jake would have called the whites of her eyes were red.  And despite the obvious demonic look, she was smiling brightly, the very picture of cheer, and Jake couldn’t help but smile back. Sure, sure, her teeth were wicked pointy, but he’d liked creepier people.
The other was an entire cake of a woman. He’d say beefcake, but she was like… carrot cake.  Ginger hair in two long braids each as thick as his forearms that fell down past her waist.  They were probably weapons in their own right, and the muscles in her neck were definitely strong enough to hold them up.
Michael clapped his hands to get everyone’s attention, and Jake stiffened, turning to look at the angel.
“Introductions are in order. I am Michael, Voice of God, leader of all angels, and all here know of me.” It was unspoken, but Jake had this feeling that he was trying to claim he was all-powerful and would someday be King of Heaven and all Jake could do was shiver.
“To my right is Gabriel. He will be handling your technology needs and any other communication between the realms while you are here.” The man with silver hair looked up and nodded.
“To my left is Feniel. He should be able to help with any academic questions you have while you are here, as he is usually found here in the library.” The dark angel smiled, and Jake couldn’t help but smile as well.  There was something bitter in that smile, and Jake wondered if Feniel would even be included if they weren’t having this meeting in the library to start with.
“Behind me is Raphael.” Raphael. Jake thought the name, and felt his smile shift to something more genuine.  The name suited the man with the spear. “Raphael is discipline. You will most likely not need to see him during your time here in the Celestial Realm, but he will be in classes with you, so be friendly at least.”
Raphael’s face showed nothing in reaction to Michael’s words. Not even a flicker of emotion. Jake wasn’t sure how to take that. Maybe he wasn’t an emotions kind of angel. Maybe he didn’t like Michael. Maybe he just didn’t emote while he was working and this was definitely working.  Whatever it was, Jake was going to figure it out.  The angel had him curious, and he was dangerous when curious. Nia could attest, for sure.
“Angels accounted for,” Michael continued. “Let me confirm why you’re all here. Diavolo, Prince of the Devildom, believes that the three realms need to strengthen our relationships rather than relying on our extant ties. As such, we have instituted an exchange program.  We’ve sent two angels to the human world and two to the Devildom.  And, we’re welcoming four students to our institution: two from the human world and two from the Devildom.”
Two?! Why couldn’t I have gone with Nia then, or she come here? Splitting us was both cruel and unnecessary.
“So you’ve obviously figured out who’s who, why don’t we go ahead and have you introduce yourselves.  Let’s start with Miss Red over here.  Could you be so kind as to keep your demon form put away while you’re here in the Celestial Realm?”
The dark red girl seemed to shiver, and then stood looking like a typical college girl. Skin a nice dark tan, with blood red pigtails, in a black tank and plaid skater skirt style. Her smile was still contagious.
“Hi. I’m Vriyaya. I like to dance, and have a perfectly normal fascination with blood.”
Next to her, the carrot cake girl laughed, and then paused when everyone looked at her.
“Oh was that all? It can be my turn then. I’m Yboun’dih, and I am very much looking forward to spending time with all of you and finding out what it’s like up here in the Celestial Realm.”
Well, she seems perfectly normal, for a carrot cake.  But what’s with that name? I’m calling her Bunny for sure. Because carrot cake.
Wasting no time, the grape juice girl next to him spoke up. “I’m Cheyenne. Friends call me Shiny.” Does that mean I’m her friend? Whoa, way to simultaneously stake a claim and friendzone a guy.  Good thing I’m gay and not offended. Jake chuckled, and Shiny shot him a grin. “I’m a witch. The angels know me, they love me.” Feniel coughed, and Shiny sighed “Okay, okay, they tolerate me. Anyway I’m here halfway often, so…”
Jake realized, then, that he was next and also last and that was a weight he wasn’t expecting.
“Hi, I’m Jake. Your paperwork probably calls me Jacob, but if you call me Jacob I will take it as an offense. Call me Jake, or don’t call me at all.” He looked pointedly at Michael when he said it. “I’m painfully normal. I didn’t even know the Celestial Realm was real 12 hours ago. Please cut me some slack, I’ll try and learn as fast as I can. Also, if you’ve got gossip in this place… let me in on it. I love me a good gossip sesh. Also… I don’t seem to have any of my things, and also you grabbed me in the middle of the night so maybe work on the timing and warning of pickups for things like this?”
Michael pursed his lips at this. “Well, with any new program there are issues. I will pass your feedback on to our contacts in the Devildom who did the planning, and hopefully they’ll bother to note it down for next time. As far as your things are concerned, you will not need anything from the human realm. Everything you need while you are here will be provided to you.” Jake didn’t think that their retrieval of him was in any way the Devildom’s fault but… he’d have to ask Nia about it, maybe she can ask someone there about it. And his things… he really hoped that someone who had some kind of fashion sense picked out his clothes.
“Regardless.” Michael continued, piercing Jake with a glare as though he could tell that his mind wandered. “Your period of stay here in the Celestial Realm is one year.  You will be able to communicate with your family at home, as well as any friends you make here, via your C.C.C..  You will have to work on the tasks that you receive here at The Celestial Academy, or TCA for short, just like your schooling in your home realms, though the subjects will differ. After one year, you will write a term paper detailing your time here in the Celestial Realm, and then you will return home. We will arrange for sufficient educational credits and the issuing of your diploma at that time.”
“What kind of tasks?  Is there a primer? Books I can study up on so I don’t make a fool of myself?” Jake really hated making a fool of himself. It was a trait he and Nia shared, actually. He couldn’t keep his mind off his bestie. He hoped she was doing okay down there in Hell. Erm, the Devildom.
“Are you glaring at me?” Michael said, slightly taken aback. “Please don’t.  It is beneath us both.  I will not abandon you to your studies without any guidance, nor leave you to your own devices whilst here in the Celestial Realm.  As a perfectly normal human, you’ll need someone to look after you, and as such I will be assigning you a mentor while you are here. Gabriel here,” Michael gestured to the tech nerd on his right, “Will be your mentor during your time here. He can be a bit… distracted.  Well, you’ll understand soon enough.”
Gabriel also glared at Michael, and Jake had to work hard to keep a smirk off of his face. After the momentary glare, Gabriel stepped out and handed everyone a small device, coming to Jake last.
“All of you, these are what Michael mentioned before, your C.C.C - it stands for Celestial Communication Console, and it’s a lot like the cell phones of the human world or the D.D.D.s that exist in the Devildom.”
Jake examined the device in his hand and smirked.  Sure enough, it looked like the newest model of iPhone.  Of course the Celestial Realm were Apple fanboys. That made perfect sense.
“Thanks.” He said, giving Gabriel one of his best smiles. He wanted to make a good impression on the angel who’d be overseeing his existence for the foreseeable future.
“This will be yours to use for as long as you’re here. It’s pre-loaded with everyone in this room’s contact information, your mother and… whoever Nia is?”
“Holy shit!” Jake exclaimed, not even thinking if swearing might get him in trouble. “You weren’t lying. I can totally text Nia with this.” He sniffed suddenly, realizing his eyes were tearing up. He thought he’d have to be without his bestie for an entire year, and he didn’t and that just… it was the best thing ever.
“Nia? Sounds like someone has a girlfriend~!” Vriyaya’s voice swam over in a singsong tone and Jake shot her a smile, but didn’t answer. Nia wasn’t a girlfriend, excepting in the literal sense that she was a girl and his friend.
Jake looked up and cast his gaze across the group. “So, I like nicknames. I sure you could tell given my insistence about my own name.” he said, deciding to be upfront with his habits. “I’ve already got Shiny here. Yboun’dih..” he tried not to mangle her name while looking into her bright green eyes. “Can I call you Bunny?”
The large girl grinned, and bounced in place. “Yes. I can be your Bunny.”
Vriyaya piped up “People call me Aya at home. Since you like nicknames, cutie.”
Okay. Shiny, Bunny, Aya…
“What about you, angels? A lot of your names have built in nicknames, but—“
“No.” Michael said simply. “We do not use nicknames.”
Jake practically wilted.  Shiny had warned him, but… it still stung.  Why did he have to go ahead and be rude about it? Was it because Jake had been pointed about his own use name? And none of the other angels spoke up at all, which he couldn’t decide if meant they agreed with Michael or simply didn’t want to contradict him. Either way, Jake hated it.

So...Twisted Wonderland is finally getting an western release. Welcome English newcomers to the trash bin that I've been a part of for the past couple years! 🥳 Here are some general things to keep in mind, and I'll try to keep spoilers to a minimum...
What's Twisted Wonderland? What's it about?
Twisted Wonderland is a Disney mobile rhythmic app. Best way to describe it is that it's like a better written Descendants if it was an isekai aimed at teens/adults.
The game is about Yuu/the self insert player character being isekai'd to another world and is forced to attend an all-boys magical college (high school) likely somewhere in fantasy Europe if the official terms are anything to go by, fighting off rampaging housewardens (dorm leaders) and trying to find a way home.
What is the deal with the characters? Are they hot anime versions of the classic Disney villains?
No. They're more like official OCs inspired by Disney characters with their own distinct goals, backgrounds and personalities. For example, Jamil is inspired by Jafar, but also has similar personality traits as Jasmine and the Genie. To avoid going into spoiler territory, let's just say that his background is a lot different than Jafar's and will make you cry. Same goes for all of the other ones. You can't say that Vil is exactly like the Evil Queen without having a huge misunderstanding of his character.
(On a fandom level, this allows a lot of freedom for fans to create their own OCs twisted from different characters. I've seen fan OCs based on Frollo, Hans, Kaa and plenty more.)
Do the Disney villains exist in this universe?
Yes, they do in their original form. Ursula is still fat. Scar still is a lion. The Evil Queen and Maleficent are as hot as ever. (Oh, what? My bisexual ass finds them hot.) They're just considered dead historical figures in universe...outside of Hades, who is a god, obviously. All of the dorms in the game are honoured after some of the notable classic ones like Jafar, Scar, and Maleficent. These guys are known as The Great Seven. However the game calls them different things like "The King of Beasts" and "The Witch of Thorns." (Likely to avoid copyright, but even that's a theory.) Other Disney heroes are said to exist like Ariel and Aladdin.
Is the white haired guy from Scarabia anime Iago?
No. He's inspired by (or "twisted) from the Sultan and Aladdin, especially his "Prince Ali" persona. There are no canon characters twisted from Iago in the game at the moment. To be fair, this is a pretty common misconception for anyone joining the fandom for the first time. Any pre English release fans who say otherwise is lying.
Who is that wolf guy based on?
No idea. My own personal fan theory is that Jack's twisted from the wolves that attacked Belle or from "The Big Bad Wolf". But again, those are theories. The game honestly never gives any hints.
Is this an otome (dating sim)?
No. All of the canon relationships in the game are platonic. The game sometimes has some flirty character lines and the odd scene that could be seen as romantic if you squint, but that's the extent of it. However, there are a lot of fanworks that have pairings and self insert romances if that's what you're looking for.
What gender is the player character?
Yuu's gender neutral. That's because Yuu represents...well, you, the player. They're whatever gender you identify as. Girl, boy, non binary, etc. If you don't like going the self insert route, you can imagine your OC in Yuu's place, which is something plenty people already do this fandom. Myself included. These can be whatever gender you want too. Same goes for race, sexuality, and everything else. Yuu is a complete blank slate, after all.
What the hell is a "Yuusona"?
These are just OCs that people have created which take the spot of the player character in fan works. People in this fandom can get quite creative with these. I've seen fics crossed over with various different fandoms like Harry Potter, Demon Slayer and My Hero Academia on AO3. (Never personally read any of these, especailly the Harry Potter ones for personal reasons, but they're out there.) Some in the fandom also have Yuusonas are at least party inspired by various different Disney characters like John Silver, Elsa and Merida. Others are just OCs who are normal people tossed into that world and forced to survive. These are shipped with canon characters, but not always.
Anything that irks you about the game?
To be honest, I never played the game itself, so I have no idea about that. But strictly on a writing/character level from what I've seen in the fan translations...
Yuu is a non-entity who is more of a vessel to see the various events of the story than an actual character. They have zero personality outside of saying a sassy one liner once in awhile. They have no background, goals or an actual presence in the story. You could replace them with a sexy lamp and it wouldn't make little difference outside of one arc! They're so bad that they're one of my go-to examples of how NOT to write a protagonist outside of Bella from Twilight. Makes it easy to make Yuusonas, but not very good on a writing level.
Certain arcs have writing issues like wonky pacing, not diving into characters' backstories enough, certain characters not developing enough, etc. (I can't get into specifics without saying spoilers.)
Yuu's friendship with Malleus could be a lot more fleshed out.
Some of the worldbuilding could've been done better. As is, it suffers in the same way that Bright does where it just seems like our exact real world with a few fantasy elements slapped on top. It would be better if it seemed like a fantasy world with some modern elements instead. Hardly any of the world building that is there is ever once explained, even something as simple as what country NRC is in. (Still think The Owl House and Amphibia are FAR better in this area.)
There are also various inaccuracies with character names (like Kalim's completely bullshit explanation about how his last name works or several of the official names being flat out being spelled wrong), Rook talking like a French weeaboo (which as someone who knows French always annoyed me) or some problematic shit (like the whole Fairy Gala event). Hopefully some of this will be corrected when the game gets an international release, but I'm not holding my breath for that either.
Outside of that, not too much outside of maybe writing a couple of the characters differently if I was in charge the project. While the game has writing issues, nothing's perfect. It's still a fun time to play.
How do I play the game?
Now that the game is gonna be launched in the US and Canada, download it from the Google Play Store or the Apple Store after January 20th. If you're outside of the US and Canada? You'll either have to wait until it comes out in your territory or try a VPN. In the meantime, there are fan subbed versions of all of the episodes over on YouTube by Shel_bb.
Will the game ever be released outside of the US, Canada and Japan?
My own theory is that Disney is using the US and Canada to test run how successful it is outside of Japan. Other mobile games flopped internationally and were forced to shut down those servers. Disney games have flopped in the past. (Epic Mickey Two, anyone?) Disney doesn't seem like a company that wants to take that gamble and is playing it safe like this. If all goes well, then it'll get an international release (and a dub at that same time). If not, then... 🤷‍
Is the game dubbed into English?
At the moment, no. But given how the game is gonna get an anime in the near future and other similar mobile games like Genshin Impact have one, it's gonna get one sooner or later. (Betting that Alex Hirsch is gonna play Grim.)
That's all I can think of at the moment. If any of this interests you, jump down this rabbit hole. Because the game is pretty fun, especially for fellow Disney fans.

A/N: This was created because I've seen some speculation that Letty may not make it to the end of Season 3 (😭🥺). My mind needed something fluffy to combat this and so this piece came about. Apologises for grammatical errors and please let me know if the Spanish translation needs correcting.
Characters/Pairing(s): Letty x Reader (mother-daughter relationship) ▪︎ Coco x Reader (mention) ☆ Mayans MC (brief mention) ▪︎ OCs (receptionist, mother and son duo)
Summary: Just a mother protecting her daughter.
Warnings: brief mention of altercation (male and female), description of injuries, fluff, language, nicknames, painkillers (reference to injury)
Word Count: 1755

(Y/N) couldn't believe how busy the roads leading to the local high school were. It was a Wednesday, a little after ten and the streets were just packed with cars. She thought it was ridiculous considering people were usually at their jobs and children were in their age appropriate schools. There was no reason for people to be out and about.
"The light's been green for five seconds!" she yelled and honked her horn, "move!" The driver in front gave her the finger before taking off, "you're so fucking lucky I've got somewhere to be, asshole!" she called out as she drove in the opposite direction.
When her phone rang during her break, the last person (Y/N) expected to hear from was the receptionist for Santo Padre High School. According to the woman, Leticia (Letty as she was mostly referred to) had been in an altercation with another student and her parents or caregivers were requested to come and meet with the principal. Rachel, the receptionist, mentioned trying to reach her father but going straight to voicemail. With (Y/N) being listed as an emergency contact she was called.
(Y/N) immediately asked about Letty, but was told that specific details couldn't be discussed over the phone. She found that odd, but accepted it (for the time being) and informed Rachel that she would be there as quickly as she could. After hanging up, she grabbed her belongings and told her manager she had a family emergency to attend to. She was cleared and (Y/N) informed him that she would be taking a week off as well and would keep them updated on her situation.
From the moment she received the call to the time she pulled up in front of the high school, her thoughts revolved around Letty. Being with Coco for several years allowed (Y/N) to gain some insight to the type of life he had been subjected to. Through a lot of tears, constant reassurance and love (Y/N) was able to break through his tough exterior and get him to believe she was in it for the long haul. When (Y/N) was told by him about his daughter being in a similar environment to what he was in growing up, she demanded him to bring her home.
The second she laid eyes on Letty she saw Coco's features and personality shine through. (Y/N) didn't expect the teenager to respect or trust her right off the bat, but she made sure to let her know that she was here if she needed someone to talk to and gave her space. With every door slam, harsh comment and glare sent her way, (Y/N) continued being herself and showed Letty she wasn't a threat. It was challenging, especially when Coco left on runs, but she pushed through. Eventually the teenager began to accept her father's girlfriend without second guessing her.
(Y/N) stepped into the main office and found a woman standing beside a teenage boy, who held some paper towels to his nose and had a couple of scratches on his face. She moved closer and realised the pair were towering over Letty who sat in the corner and was looking down at her lap. Clenching her jaw, she strode over to the trio.
"Get the fuck away from my daughter!" she glared at the duo and turned around to Letty, who was now standing, "mi niña, are you okay?" she kissed her forehead and cupped her cheeks, "Leticia?"
The teenager nodded, "uh… y-yeah, I'm fine," she went to move (Y/N)'s hands but winced, "completely fine."
(Y/N)'s eyes widened at the state of Letty's hands. They were most likely bruised and what shocked her even more was that there was no ice-pack beside her seat. The boy clearly had been given assistance, but her baby girl hadn't and that pissed her off.
"Rachel!" she called out and a woman appeared around the corner, "you're the one who called me right?"
"Yes."
"And, you said you couldn't go over specific details of what happened over the phone?"
"That's correct."
(Y/N) nodded and gestured towards Letty's hands, "well I'm here now and would like an explanation on why my daughter hasn't been treated and that young man has?" When the mother tried to give a reason, she raised a hand in her face, "this doesn't concern you, this conversation is between Rachel and I."
Rachel gulped and could feel the anger radiating off of (Y/N), "well… uh, he was bleeding and –"
"Were there other staff members present?" she asked and when she was given a nod, she continued, "why couldn't they have provided medical assistance to my daughter?"
"She… didn't tell us she was hurt, ma'am, she said she was fine so –"
"Bitch do her hands look fine to you?"
The mother scoffed, "at least we know where your daughter gets her attitude from."
(Y/N) turned to her, "shut up, nobody asked for your ass to speak," she gestured towards her son, "the reason your son's looking like a fucked up tomato is completely justified I can vouch for that."
"Are you kidding me?" She shrieked and pointed to his face, "he's most likely got a broken nose and there's scratches on his face!"
"Exactly, be glad my daughter didn't have a screwdriver on her." (Y/N) replied and almost laughed at the disbelief on the woman's face, "your son deserved every scratch, bruise and possible broken bone."
"Excuse me!?"
(Y/N) ignored her and turned back around to face Rachel, "Letty and I will be leaving now."
"Mrs Fraser hasn't seen –"
"My main concern right now is my daughter's well-being," she told her, "and you've got my details on file so I'm sure Mrs Fraser can contact me at a later date."
Rachel spoke again, "please if you'd just –"
"No."
(Y/N) picked up Letty's bag and walked over to the desk, with Letty trailing behind her. She quickly signed out on the tablet and the pair walked out of the building. Reaching her car, (Y/N) unlocked it and helped Letty into the passenger seat. Closing her door, she rushed to the driver's side and got in.
She helped Letty buckle up, before buckling herself in, "everything okay, sweets?"
"Yeah… uh, thanks." was the response she received, before she started up the car and pulled out of the school parking lot while explaining where they were off to next.
-- ♡ -- ◇ --
"He's always talking shit," Letty explained to (Y/N) about the guy in the office, "it was about time someone shut him up."
"And you were the person to do so?"
She shrugged her shoulders, "he ran his mouth and then touched me, so I beat his ass."
"Two for one special?"
"Pretty much."
(Y/N) chuckled, "when your hands heal up, we'll ask one of the guys to teach you a few moves in the ring, thankfully your hands are just bruised and not broken."
"They still hurt like a bitch."
"You've got another two hours before you can drink some more painkillers."
"What would've happened if Coco answered the phone?" Letty questioned.
(Y/N) shook her head, "honey, I don't even think I wanna know what would've happened," she noticed the teen wince, "are you okay?"
"Yes."
"Are you sure?"
She huffed, "I'm fine, okay? I was fine when you picked me up. I was fine when we went to the doctor's office. I was fine at the grocery store and I was fine the last time you asked me."
(Y/N) nodded and pulled into their driveway, putting the car in park, "I'm not gonna apologise about asking how you're feeling. I'm just – I just want to make sure you're okay. But, now I'll stop because I can see I'm annoying you."
"Yeah, you are."
She chuckled, "okay, I'll stop, but you'll tell –"
Letty sighed, "yes, I'll tell you. You really take this parenting thing seriously. I mean… you've been referring to me as your daughter all day and I–I'm not. But you defended me –"
"And I always will."
" – against Kyle, his mum and even the receptionist. I–I've never had that before. And, even at the doctor's office you made sure I was seen by a female because you knew it'd make me more comfortable."
"Letty?"
"You treat me like I'm yours and you called me your daughter and I… I don't know, I just," she took a deep breath, shook her head and looked out of the window.
(Y/N) waited for her to continue, but she didn't. Thinking back on today's events, she realised she had referred to Letty as her own. She had been doing it in her mind for so long and didn't realise she had said it out in the open. Letty had heard her reference and it seemed to make her uncomfortable and that was something she vowed she wouldn't do.
"When I started dating your dad he told me about the kids he had. He told me that he wasn't involved in their lives because being away from them was for the best. I asked him what would happen if one day a kid reached out and his response was "if they do, they do. I ain't gonna turn them away", (Y/N) spoke up, "and then you reached out, sweetums. You reached out and your dad took that as a sign. From the moment you entered our lives, it's been a whirlwind of emotions. We're not this picture perfect family, but we're our own version. Despite being almost an adult, Coco still views you as his baby girl. And, honestly, I've been viewing you the same way."
Letty sniffed and looked up, "really?"
"Absolutely, gorgeous. The moment you stepped through that door you became mine as well," (Y/N) pointed at the front door of their home, before turning to her, "but that doesn't matter if you're not okay with it. I'm not trying to force you to be –"
"I'm Coco's daughter," she cut in and smiled at (Y/N), "and now I'm yours too."
(Y/N) beamed with joy and unbuckled her seatbelt, and Letty's, reaching over the middle console to bring the teen into her arms. Letty wrapped her arms around (Y/N), breathing in her (scent). The woman chuckled and kissed her cheek, "I love you, baby girl."
Letty pulled her closer, "I love you too, mama."
