Ordalie always was more of a warrior than a shaman. He was a good leader but way too serious all the time, never let himself rest even for a minute. Honestly he was a bad parenting figure for Meech but he did his best. He's just... way overprotective. And you can never get any compliments out of him, even if he was genuienly proud of someone he wouldn't say a word. But he would kill and die for his tribe and especially for Meech. And let me be cringe but like Meech, Ordalie was also somewhat inspired by a rome song, "der erscheinungen flucht". I feel like "your pride should be a lighter thing" quote is something that Meech heard quite a lot because it sounds like something Ordalie would say.
Tumblr media
and I drew this just to check if their faces were different shapes and such lol but I love them so much, they're both older here
also these two dumbasses are open to questions if you want to ask sth! <3

Life check point - I can't seem to go to sleep so I decided to redownload Tumblr and do a life check point of my life up to this point for preservation sake I guess. I had a thought of doing that with little videos and posting them to my YouTube channel. It's funny because I read old Tumblr messages on here and try to figure out my state of mind at that time to no avail.
So what is going on in life...
After all of these years, I am doing bumpers for the MCA again or should I call it The Chat Attack now. It's not mines anymore. It stop being that 6 years ago. He did ask me to come back on the show. I declined. I know me and my head. I would just try to recreate something that isn't there anymore. Same reason I keep watching the old bumpers and shows. I tell myself it's for inspiration or getting new ideas for the new bumpers, but it's me reliving the "glory" days. When I had a group of people listening to me. When I had power or control over something bigger than myself. If I am being honest, it feels good knowing I was "Top dog" at one point in time. That I got my idol at one point Korey Coleman to say "Attack the chat" once on a video, even though if I had the opportunity to talk to him about that, he probably wouldn't remember. It was something out of my head...that became real. That's powerful to me and I really want to do it again.
Ms gay is gone. Died from stomach cancer. Her mom had to stay with us for 4 months while Ms Gaye's sister was buying a house. She just moved out a month ago. Interesting experience. It took for her to die for me to know her name was first name was Carol.
Miranda is still missing...I miss her a lot. I told trey. I would have married her. And that is still true I feel. When I get the resources, I am going to find you.
And dan
Dan is still missing....
Find meech as well.
Jett seems happy with Nick. I'm happy for them both. They both deserve that. Had rough lives. It's nice they can finally get something out of it. Not sure if I will ever get married or what not and do that whole children thing. Only time will tell I guess. I could be reading this ten years from now and have all of these things. We will see.
I am kind of just kinda "meh" on the whole thing at the moment. Dating isn't even my main focus.
I work for pottery barn at the moment. Retail support agent. I answer emails all day. Easy ass job. I legit could just sit there for hours and occasionally do work. Sometimes I read a book or just watch YouTube videos. I am know as the "hype man" in the teams room. If I am being honest, it gives me similar feels to what I had with the MCA. People actually look for me and wonder where I am at. It feels nice to feel wanted or when people like to just be in your presence. But is it real? Just like the love I had with the MCA? Does it have an expiration date?
Because I know I will be curious later...
The book is Sophia's World: A history on philosophy. Good stuff so far. Recommend by ruthless. Yeah....still talking to him. He doesn't respect me like he use too. Doing thumbnails for his YouTube or at least I think I am. I haven't gotten work to do on it in a few weeks. We will see if that last.
I do thumbnails for Josh's The Afternoon Tune. Still going strong. Gave me free range on the thumbnails. I'm proud of him. Although everytime I look at the YouTube page, I see MCA DNA. Still friends with the group....we legit been through think and thin together so I think at this point, our relationship as friends...hell as family at this point is soild. I really hope they all respect me, but aren't these the same thoughts I had last time? Before I burned everything to the ground so what do I know? We are all meeting up for the first time as a group in March. Meeting up in New York. I hope everything goes well.
Regardless I know for a fact I have Fernando and Soberna in my corner. I still talk to them. The only folks from staples at this point. Although the Halloween party, I did get to see Angela, josh and Jermaine. That was fucking cool. I am really happy for Jermaine and his husband. Had no idea the dude was gay, but happy for him regardless.
Devon is still Devon.... maybe worst...or maybe our relationship is just really bad. It's almost like resentment now. I don't even like talking to him now. It's like I have already mourned the lost of my brother and he is still here. I am not even sure how to approach this situation at all. Recently had a conversation with mom about how I am frustrated that he gets to give up, but I can't. Even if I had the opportunity to do so, my mind wouldn't let me. I know I would regret all that wasted time. I have stuff I want to do with my life. And I can't stop until those are accomplished. And even then....lol
Anything else?
I am very annoyed in myself that I have forgotten alot of stuff I use to know. After effects, driving, pass books or let's plays I have watched. What was the last let's play I watched?
Can't remember. (Could probably check the YouTube history if I cared enough)
Still working with my therapist on mindpath. Although I am thinking of just cutting it off. I think I May have reached the point of what she can help with. I think this is one of those roads I probably have to finish alone. I have changed my sessions from every two weeks to every three weeks.
I still care about what my mom, my friends, my coworkers.....other people think about me. I still care and haven't learned my lesson yet. What is it going to take for me to finally stop caring? What is it going to take? The improvement junkie stuff is starting to get annoying to. I can't even relax on my off day and using time to think about how to get better at after effects or improve my memory or get better at mental math. I am going through timeline order of the marvel movies at the moment which is alot more fun than I thought. Trying to get back into gaming more with my steam deck. I love that thing.
It's 6 am and I have yet to get any sleep. And I am suppose to be driving to see Fernando and Soberna today. I need sleep....

Young jeezy album trap or die

#Young jeezy album trap or die full
He was so incredibly dismissive of studio gangsters ("Minus all of these videos, stickers, and flyers/Most of these rappers are compulsive liars"), and so full of unflinching, yet cautious detail ("Your Uncle Grady never stole all your rocks/You never hid eight balls in your socks/And you ain't lost Mel Man and Goldmouth/And you ain't never have the drug task in your house") that his credibility was beyond question-even if you didn't know who Big Meech or BMF were at the time. When he opened "Get Ya Mind Right" by rapping, "I'm the realest nigga in here-ya already know/Got 'Trapper of the Year' four times in a row," you knew it was an absurdist brag, but it wasn't hyperbolic. When he rhymed, "Said I was affiliated with all the gangsters and killers?/Fuck you thought I was gonna do-turn my back on my niggas?" it was uncomfortable and honest, climactic and heartfelt. Still he took three separate tracks to introduce himself-the aforementioned "We Tried to Tell 'Em," "Intro," and "Get Ya Mind Right." The music was cinematic, the narrative autobiographical, turning a sequel of sentiments into blockbuster boasts. Young Jeezy was right next to you, his voice gravelly with a gravitas that minced itself from your speakers give a fuck what you niggas think-I'm here to motivate the thugs to get this bread, nigga." Even without knowing about Jeezy's bonafides, real could recognize real from the outset. Young Jeezy, on the other hand, was right next to you, his voice gravelly with a gravitas that minced itself from your speakers, and-unlike most rappers past and present-Jeezy refused to talk down to his audience he wanted to lift them up: "I'm here for thug motherfucking motivation, nigga. Their music was abrasive but polished, their personalities deadly but removed. How real is that, nigga?" It was an approach that 50 Cent had pioneered and perfected in the years prior, but 50's G-Unit had become superhuman and larger than life. Nigga getting show money off mixtapes, nigga. "Niggas playing my shit like albums, nigga. "230,000 units strong in the motherfuckin' streets, nigga," he stated, claiming his music was what was good in the hoods of Georgia and Alabama and Tennessee and points beyond. Young Jeezy was a rapper most of us had never heard of before he introduced himself a cappella, by letting us know that not only had he predicted that he would change the game-he had already done it. And no release quite captured the moment like Young Jeezy's Trap or Die.įrom the outset, Trap or Die was monumental and momentous, foreign and far-fetched, realistically hype and highly surreal. This brew of advances was perfect for the ascension of DJ Drama's mixtape empire. Manufacturing and printing high-quality CDs could be done easily from any desktop computer. Internet service was affordable and widely accessible but not ubiquitous. Music was still seen as a tangible good, but it was readily portable, speedily distributed and easily copied. In short, it was the sweet spot between what was and what would be. We still listened to most of our music on CDs, but-with greater and greater frequency-those CDs were filled with music we downloaded from the Internet as MP3s. The iTunes store had been around for two years, but it was still three years away from being the biggest music star on the planet. YouTube didn't exist, but it would in a month. Technologically speaking, our relationship to music was very different. You may have to select a menu option or click a button.Ten years ago this week, things were very different. Endless Summer Challenge: Days 18-22
Yeah... so I’ve been travelling, and am a sleep-deprived wreck, so still on catch up!
Day 18) a song that reminds you of the books
‘Safe and Sound’ from the Hunger Games soundtrack gives me serious Estela/MC feels for Katniss reasons.
Day 19) a character you wish had died
Well, that’s a question and a half! Pretty much all the bad guys bought it in the end. I guess I wish Rourke-ending Rourke would choke and die.
Day 20) dream cast
I don’t know enough actors to do this! Certainly not enough to do it well. I don’t think I have ANY cast headcanons. Obviously the cast needs to reflect race and nationality, but I don’t really have opinions aside from that.
Day 21) favorite ship (aside from MCXLI) (this is my OTP)
ASIDE from Estela x MC?! But that ship is so pure and beautiful? Ugh, fine.
Canon: Craig x Zahra. Oh my god, the chemistry, the banter... Perfection. Never have I so happily parted with diamonds to assist a non-MC relationship. One of these days I need to write a Craig x Zahra fic; a bit out of my comfort zone but I love them!
Non-canon: Michelle x Quinn. I love, love, love the idea of these two together. Their friendship was one of the closest from early on, significant especially for Meech who was initially prickly to the group. They clearly care about one another deeply, and are both beyond awesome. They both deserve better than the ships canon hinted towards.
Bonus! BroTP: Estela and Jake. Pretty sure they’re gonna be besties forever!
Day 22) least favorite ship (aside from MCXLI) (I never understood this pairing pft)
Sean x Michelle. I hate that he never really acknowledged to her how he’d wronged her in the breakup. There was no trust there at all. She’s an absolute gem and deserves better (see comments above, hehe). It drives me nuts that her ember of hope shows her still caught up on Sean so many years later- I categorically reject that future!
Thanks for the challenge @endlesssummerfan!

What about a reunion with Jake from ES after the cursed end where mc sacrafices themselves but they eventually find each other? I'm still not over it 🙃
I’m so sorry this took so long!! I finally got some free time today to finish it up and I loved writing it! Enjoy!
Jake let out a heavy sigh as he took a sip of his beer. Hiseyes were closed as he leaned forward against the railing of the gazebo. Thesun shone bright above, but he barely felt the heat on his face as the strawroof above his head blocked out the sun. “Five years,” He muttered after awhile, opening his eyes. “Jesus, it feels like it all happened yesterday.
Michelle nodded in agreement, staring ahead at the ocean.“It’s strange, isn’t it? One day we’re fighting for our lives in the mostliteral way possible, and the next… everything just goes back to normal.”
He nodded, a solemn expression on his face. “Not tomention…”
“I know, Jake.” She placed a hand on his shoulder, frowningto herself. “And… that’s why we’re all here. Taylor meant so much to all of us.And I can guarantee you that none of us go a day without thinking about whatshe did for us.”
He nodded, letting out a sigh as he scratched at his chin.“You’re right..” His voice was quiet. “It just… it isn’t fair. She went throughjust as much as the rest of us, hell, probably more then the rest of us, and…she had to give it all up.”
“It was her choice. And… they were all shitty options oneway or another, but she made it for herself. She wanted to save all of us.” Shegave his shoulder a gentle squeeze, smiling reassuringly at him. “Youincluded.”
He glanced up at her with a faint smile, chuckling tohimself a bit. “When’d you get so wise, McDreamy?”
“Always have been, McKenzie. You just always refused tolisten.” She raised an eyebrow at him, a smirk playing at her lips. “McDreamy?”
“…I watched a few episodes of Grey’s Anatomy on the flight.”
She grinned up at him, laughing to herself. “You never failto amaze me, Jake.”
“All a part of the charm.” He said with a small chuckle.
Before either of them had a chance to get another word in,shouting could be heard from across the beach. Michelle furrowed her brows andlooked towards the commotion while Jake simply looked confused. “What thehell’s going on?”
“How should I know?” The two of them only became moreconfused as they heard bits of everyone’s conversation.
“It has to be her..”
“We can’t be positive.”
“It looks just like her, Sean!”
“We can’t ignore all he weird shit that happened here! Thiscould be a trick!”
“By who?”
“Come on, Meech,” Jake was already on his way down to thebeach where everyone else was. His voice sounded distant when he was spoke asall his attention was solely focused on what the hell was going on.
Michelle followed close behind, her gaze filled with bothcuriosity and determination. Nothing especially strange had happened on LaHuerta since Taylor’s sacrifice, but they could never be too careful.
When the two of them finally got down to the beach, Jakepushed his way through the crowd of his friends. That’s when he saw her.
Taylor was lying in the sand, her eyes closed as strands ofher wet hair fell over her face. One arm lay across her stomach as the otherlaid out to the side, almost limp. Her head laid limp off to one side, rightcheek resting in the sand. The rest of her soft features were drenched in oceanwater. Someone had brought her far enough away from the shore that the smallwaves that were coming in were a few feet short of reaching her.
She looked just as Jake remembered.
“Is she dead..?” He asked quietly, dreading that the answerwould be yes and he’d have to face the reality of her being gone a second time.
Before anyone could get a word out, Taylor started coughing.Everyone turned to stare at her with wide eyes, her coughs and the soft oceanwaves the only noise. She began to sit up, her coughs eventually leading toocean water coming out of her mouth.
When the coughing stopped, she slowly moved her head up tostare at the eleven people standing in front of her.
“Princess..?”
Her eyes locked with Jake’s the moment she heard his voice. Her face lit up as she grinned over at him. “You’re here..” A laugh came out asshe spoke, and it came from pure joy.
Jake didn’t hesitate to run towards her. He knelt down whenhe was by her side and kissed her passionately. He ran his fingers through herhair, his other hand resting on her waist. It was the kiss that he had dreamedabout. The one that he had spent the last five years wishing for. And itsurpassed his expectations even more then he thought possible.
Taylor moved her hands up to cup his face, her smile neverbreaking as the two of them kissed. They only pulled away when the two of thembegan to run out of breath. “I missed you too, Hotness.” She spoke in awhisper, her voice loud enough for only him to hear. There was a small, joyous laughto her voice as she spoke. Something he had missed dearly.
He held her hand in his own as he helped her stand up, andhe didn’t hesitate before wrapping her into a warm embrace. “Don’t ever leaveme like that again, okay?”
She closed her eyes as she relaxed into his arms. “Ipromise,”
Soon enough, everyone had their happy reunion with Taylor. Many tears were shed as everyone exchanged stories of what had happened thelast five years. How they came back here every year because of her.
Hours passed, and eventually night came.  Jake stood under the gazebo with Taylor, hisarms wrapped around her from behind as he stared out at the ocean. His gaze eventuallymoved from the ocean to Taylor, and a smile formed at the corners of his mouth.“I thought you were really gone..” He said quietly to her.
She looked up at him, biting her lip. “I did too,” Shestared down at the ground, furrowing her brows. “I was dead, Jake. I don’t knowwhat the hell happened that changed that, probably more weird La Huerta shit, but… god, I’m so glad that it happened. The thought of never seeing any of myfriends again, never seeing you again..” She looked up at him with tears in hereyes. “I couldn’t bare it.”
Jake looked down at her sympathetically. He felt the same way.Though… he wasn’t the one who had to die. “I know, Taylor.” He whispered.Cupping her cheek in his hand, he gently wiped her tears away with his thumb. “Believeme, the thought of never seeing you again, thinking you were dead,” He shookhis head. “It was a lot to deal with. But you’re here now. And I’m gonna appreciateevery moment of it.”
She sniffled as she stared up at him, her eyes full ofadoration. “I love you, Jake McKenzie.”
“I love you too, Taylor.” He closed his eyes and placed hisother hand on her hip, kissing her gently. For once, everything seemed to be atpeace. And they couldn’t be happier about that.

lou self-inserts part who cares of who knows
Shelter. They had to find shelter, and soon. The storm was picking up, wind whipping at their face and tearing through their six layers of clothing. They’d stopped crying a while ago when they realized that their tears were turning to ice on their face, but their eyes still burned.
They had no idea where they were. After they’d almost fallen down that cliff and had turned around they’d lost their own tracks – at this point, they were probably further up on the mountain than they were when they began.
There wasn’t a sliver of regret in their heart. Running had been the right choice, and this might’ve been the only chance they’d ever get. If they had to suffer ice and snow and hardship for that then they were ready to do so – they only hoped they wouldn’t pay with an early death.
A particularly strong gust of wind made them lose their balance. They stumbled for a moment, flailing – and then they crashed face-first into the snow. Despair flared in them, and they contemplated staying down – but no, they had to continue, or they’d die.
The snow stung against their bare palms, but they gritted their teeth and pushed up onto their knees – only to collapse a moment later, a lightning bolt of nausea tearing through them. They groaned quietly, more tears pricking in their eyes. Rolling over to their side they curled up in a ball, pressing their hands against the warmth pooling by their throat.
Maybe it’d be fast.
*
They woke up slowly, fading into consciousness with the impression of floating around in a warm and comfortable nothingness. There was a muffled, throbbing pain, and their vision was somewhat blurry, but otherwise they didn’t feel all too bad.
It took them some time to figure out their surroundings, but once they did they were fully awake.
“Oh my God what the fuck,” Lou blurted, sitting up in one sharp move. It sent a sharp twinge of pain through their head, then down their neck, and they slapped a hand up to their forehead with a hissed yelp.
It didn’t seem to bother the two creatures conversing on the other side of the – room? Cave? Oh, what did it matter, there were two large creatures growling at each other mere meters away from them.
They were tall – ridiculously so, at least four times as tall as Lou – were covered in long fur, and had long, pointy horns. One of them even had a beard, long and tied together – and he was covered by stones?
“Oh my God,” Lou whispered, “what are you?”
Bigfoot? Yetis? Sasquatch? Who knew not them.
The other creature – who’s fur looked to be a pale shade of purple and who wore a long, thick braid down her back – froze, then spun to give Lou a surprised look. They stared at each other for a moment, Lou terrified and her shocked.
Then she growled something at the other creature, stumbling over to Lou and carefully sitting down before them.
“Hehe,” Lou said, nervously scooting a bit away from her. “Uhm – hi?”
The creature – who, know that Lou could look at her up-close, seemed to be a yeti – brought one gigantic hand up towards them. Lou flinched away from her and tensed up, but when she did no sudden moves, relaxed again.
“H – hi,” Lou breathed, slowly reaching up and forward. They pressed their hand against the yetis finger. “Uhm, who – who are you?”
The yeti cast a look over her shoulder, gesturing towards the other yeti with her free hand while she made a mixture of growling and grunting noises. The other yeti shook his head, then came closer, giving Lou a sceptical look.
They tilted their head back to look at him, then swallowed heavily. He didn’t seem very friendly – not only because he was looming over them. There was just… something off about him.
Lou took this chance to look around the room. It was surprisingly enough quite decorated, drawings on the walls and something that might very well be shelves drowning in various items. More surprisingly, though, was probably the pile of over-sized blankets they were sitting in. It seemed almost like a nest.
“Oh,” they whispered, brushing one hand over the course fur-covered blanket. “You…” They sighed, their vision blurring again. “Ugh, of course I’m fucking sick,” they grumbled, pressing the back of their hand against their forehead. “I dunno, but I think I’m burning up. Fucking… excellent.”
The purple yeti waved her fingers in front of them, then tapped her chest with a long, dark grumble.
“Wait, are you – ” Lou cut themselves off and squinted. “I can’t say that,” they said, shaking their head slowly.
The yeti tilted her head, seemingly thoughtful for a moment, before tapping her chest again, again with a growl. This time it was quieter, shorter, almost sharp.
“Oh,” Lou said. “Right, yes, uhm… M – Mich? That sounded – ” They gestured for the yeti to repeat what she’d said. “Oh, God.” Lou lowered their voice, spoke very slowly, and let all the sounds glide into each other until it was more noise than a word. “M… Meech?”
The yeti – Meech, apparently – nodded enthusiastically. Then she gestured towards them.
“Oh, you want – well, okay. Lou.” They took a deep breath, put a hand to their chest, and said, “Lou.”
Meech blinked. “Bhlu?” she tried, stumbling over the different sounds.
Lou stared. “Uh. Close enough.” They nodded.
Enthusiastic now, Meech turned to the other yeti, saying something or other to him. Their name was mentioned several times. They leaned back against the furs, not even trying to fight the yawn sneaking up on them. Rubbing their aching eyes they shook their head. “Fantastic,” they muttered, the word muffled by another yawn. “Perfect timing to fall asleep…”
But one can’t fight sickness like that, and they’d slipped into sleep mere moments later.
*
When Meechee turned back to the smallfoot, they’d fallen asleep. “Aw,” she said, clasping her hands beneath her chin. “They’re so adorable.”
“They’re a danger to our people,” her dad said. “They can’t stay.”
“Oh, come on,” Meechee said, turning to him with crossed arms, “dad, they’re sick!” She gestured towards the smallfoot, knocked out and snuggling against one of the blankets she’d carefully wrapped them in. “They’ll never find their way back down alone.”
He shook his head. “If they stay for longer, they will never return to their own kind. I can not let them go if they learn more about us – Meechee, they are dangerous.”
Meechee flung her hands into the air. “They’re a child, come on, look at them – how dangerous can one lone smallfoot child be?”
He blinked. “A child?” he repeated, dropping his hands to his side as he stepped over to stand beside her bed, peering down at Bhlu. “Are you sure?”
“Yes,” Meechee said. “They’re not fully developed – disproportioned, too – and dad, they’re sick, you know it.”
A long moment passed where her dad stared at Bhlu with a carefully blank expression. “Very well,” he finally said, straightening up with a small nod. “But they’re not staying in my house. And we’re telling the village they’re a yak.”
Meechee held up a finger, about to protest –
the only thing stronger than fear is curiosity –
and lowered the finger again. “Fine,” she said. “But if they turn on you it’s not my fault.”
He smiled softly. “They won’t,” he assured her. Then he turned back to Bhlu. “I suppose it would be a wise choice to ask Dorgle to care for them. He’s always followed the stones – and Migo is an excellent yeti.” He nodded to himself. “Yes.”
“What, and just tell them that it’s a yak?” Meechee asked. “That won’t work!”
An hour later they stood in the exact same spot, Meechee rubbing her forehead tiredly. “I can’t believe it worked,” she muttered. “Okay, he said, like he wasn’t holding an actual smallfoot – ”
“I told you so,” her dad said, smiling at her as he leaned against his staff.
*
“I have to admit, this is honestly very weird.” Lou’d been moved since they fell asleep, and they were now in a new place with two new yetis, one double the size of the other. “Uhm, hi?”
The tallest – and youngest-looking, based on the shorter one’s mustache and graying fur – reached for them and bopped them on the head.
*
“This is the weirdest yak I’ve ever seen,” Migo muttered, very gently tapping the top of Bhlu’s head.
“Well,” da said, scratching his head uncertainly. “Stonekeeper did say it was a rare breed…”
“I guess,” Migo said, shrugging and straightening up again. “Didn’t he say they were – intelligent, too?”
Da nodded thoughtfully. “So they’re… ours, now?”
“Guess so,” Migo said.
“Alright, then.”
**
Lou squinted at the yeti child that was just a tiny bit larger than them. “Hi?” they said, giving a small wave.
The child waved back with an enthusiastic beam. Then their hands moved rapidly – gesturing something –
Lou blinked. “Wait, are you – ” They cut themselves off, then moved their arms in a cross before touching their throat. “Are you mute?”
The child seemed surprised, but then proceeded to nod. They tilted their head, then thudded their hand against their chest before flashing some signs. Upon seeing Lou’s hesitation they repeated the signing, far slower this time.
“Oh – oh! That’s – that’s your name?” they asked, clumsily trying to procreate the signing.
They nodded excitedly, reaching for Lou’s hands and gently helping them form the right sign.
“Okay,” Lou said, nodding absentmindedly as they repeated the sign. “Okay – ” They pointed at the child, then signed, tilting their head curiously.
Again they nodded. Then they frowned, before nodding slowly and pointedly, making a fist with their hand before sharply opening it again. They repeated this a few times.
Lou gasped. “That – that’s yes?” they asked, nodding their head and imitating an explosion with their hand.
The young yeti jumped up and down, clapping their hands excitedly. They signed that with both hands, which Lou took as an enthusiastic yes. Then they visibly calmed themselves down, slowly shaking their head and making a grabbing motion with their hand.
“And – and that’s no?” Lou repeated excitedly, shaking their head and repeating the motion.
Yes, they signed.
Yes, Lou signed back.
“I can’t believe it,” they whispered, before laughing breathlessly, clapping their hands excitedly. “I can’t – we’re communicating! We’re communicating!” Yes, they signed.
Yes, the yeti signed, a wide smile on their lips. Then they made a spinning notion with their finger, before pointing at Lou.
Lou tilted their head. “What does… that, mean?” they asked, confusedly making the same spinning notion.
They tapped their lips, then, lighting up, drew a question mark in the snow. Repeated the spinning notion.
“Oh, it’s a question!”
The yeti pointed to themselves, then signed their name, before spinning their finger and pointing at Lou.
Oh, of course, they were asking for their name –
“Lou,” they said, slowly and clearly. “Lou.”
They nodded a bit to themselves, then held their arm parallel to their chest, hand palm-down before slowly turning it palm-up.
“Am… am I Lou?” Lou asked, spinning their finger before pointing to themselves and repeating the turning motion.
Yes, the yeti signed, before pointing at Lou, thumping their left shoulder with their left fist and signing Lou’s name.
“Oh God, this is confusing,” Lou muttered, thumping their shoulder before spinning their finger.
The yeti held out their hand in a familiar stop, wait sign before moving back to the snow. They made the spinning notion, then pointed to the question mark. Then they thumped their own shoulder before drawing an exclamation mark.
“Oh!” Lou said. “Okay, so – I am Lou.” They signed as they spoke.
The yeti nodded, signing yes as they went.
Lou held out their hand the way they had done earlier, then started to sign their name. “El?” they asked, just holding their hand still before spinning their finger questioningly.
Yes.
“Oo?” they asked, now holding their hand palm-up before again spinning their finger.
Yes.
Okay, so to figure out how to pronounce their name they’d have to slowly but surely go through the alphabet. They took a deep breath. “A?” Spin of finger.
The yeti gave them a confused look, but offered the appropriate sign. Not familiar.
“B?”
Not familiar.
“C?”
They placed a closed fist over their chest. “Oh!” Lou exclaimed. “C?” they asked, slowly signing their name.
The yeti lit up, then flashed a brief yes before turning attentive eyes on Lou.
It took a long time before they found another letter that seemed familiar – but it was N, the joint of their right-hand index and middle finger pressed against their chin.
Soon after they found the last missing letter – Y, which went in the middle, with the back of the same finger-joints pressed to their forehead.
“Cyn?” Lou said, slowly signing their name. “Are – you, Cyn?”
I am Cyn, they signed.
“What a pretty name,” Lou whispered. “I love it. How do you say…?” They rubbed their chin thoughtfully, then drew a quick heart in the snow, pointing at it before signing ?.
Wait, signed Cyn, before drawing two more hearts in the snow, one with “glowing” stripes around it and another with even more stripes. They pointed to the first heart, then signed something that looked like a sideways ok sign.
“A meme? I can work with that.” Lou repeated the sign.
Cyn pointed to the second heart, forming a quick heart with their hands – which Lou repeated – before moving to the last heart. They formed a heart once more, but now moved to press their hands against their chest.
“Okay,” Lou muttered, before signing I like Cyn.
They beamed, then tapped one of their horns, giving a small bow. Lou repeated the gesture, adding a ? for good measure.
After some odd explanations including crude drawings of yetis giving other yetis gifts, Lou managed to puzzle together that tapping one’s right horn was thanks while tapping one’s left horn was you’re welcome.
Now there was only one question left that they felt they could figure out – how to sign name. “What is Cyn?” they said, signing as they went.
Cyn pulled two fingers down the air in front of their face, accompanied by a confused expression – likely it was meant to sign what?
“Oh, damnit,” Lou muttered, pinching the bridge of their nose briefly. “Okay, uhm – you are Cyn, I am Lou, what is Cyn Lou?”
They lit up, then made a circle above their chest. I am Cyn, they signed, then Cyn is my – signed circle.
“Name?” Lou asked, signing the same circle. “Is Lou my name?”
Yes, Cyn signed. Then they made a horizontal line going from one shoulder to the other, my name is Cyn.
Lou repeated that sign, added a ? and soon figured out that it was the equivalent to and.
Hi, my name is Lou, Lou signed. Yes?
Yes! Cyn signed. Hi Lou, my name is Cyn. Then they beamed, signing a quick, I like you.
“I like you, too,” Lou replied, using and, pleasantly surprised when it seemed to be correct.
Cyn beamed, then hopped away over to an adult yeti, signing rapidly and happily as they went.
Lou smiled softly at them, then turned back to where the yeti who’s name had sounded like door was still standing, talking to some other yeti.
Time to learn everyone’s names.

Wednesday marks the 13th anniversary of a coup d’état in Haiti.
On Feb. 29, 2004—it was a leap year—a Canadian-led assault on Haitian democracy forcibly removed the social democrat President Jean-Bertrand Aristide.
Current Montreal Mayor Denis Coderre—who was the minister to La Francophonie and Prime Minister Paul Martin’s special advisor to Haiti—said on Feb. 20, 2004, “It is clear that we don’t want Aristide’s head; we believe that Aristide should stay,”
Nine days later, Canadian Special Forces landed in Haiti—taking over Port-au-Prince airport, securing it as a beachhead for the deployment of US Marines and other international soldiers. The invasion of Haiti had begun, and Canada played a key role in it.
Aristide said he was kidnapped by US Navy SEALs, on Feb. 29—taken at gunpoint on a flight to Central African Republic and threatened that “a lot of people would die” if he didn’t resign. The US State Department denied these allegations, saying that Aristide resigned on his own accord. The former president then lived in exile in South Africa until his return to Haiti in 2011.
On Feb. 29, 2004, President George W. Bush said, “President Aristide resigned. He has left his country. The constitution of Haiti is working—there is an interim president in place. […] As for the constitution in place, I have ordered the deployment of Marines as the leading element of an interim international force to help bring order and stability to Haiti.”
The occupying forces, including Canada, installed an interim government. Gérard Latortue took over soon after as Prime Minister.
Jean-Bertrand Aristide was first elected president of Haiti in 1991, with a 67.5 per cent majority in the country’s first internationally recognized legitimate election. Eight months later he was taken from power after a CIA backed military coup.
In 1994, after a crippling UN embargo which left the country in ruins, Aristide was reinstated to power with the help of US military forces—but only after agreeing to work with the Clinton administration to “substantially transform the nature of the Haitian state.” Basically, Aristide was being asked to end his social-democratic reforms and accept privatization and austerity measures.
Aristide was certainly no perfect saint, with multiple reports of uninvestigated and possibly politically motivated assassinations. While in charge, however, the human rights situation in the country improved considerably. The literacy rate increased from around 30 per cent to 55 per cent. As well, he doubled the minimum wage, and instituted the rule of law—with courts operating in Creole instead of French. The malnutrition rate dropped from 63 per cent to 51 per cent, and he created a medicine-training program with the help of Cuba. He even disbanded the Haitian army, a repressive institution that had only ever fought its own people.
Denis Paradis, then Canada’s Secretary of State for the Francophonie, Latin America, and Africa held a secret meeting in 2003 called the “Ottawa Initiative on Haiti.” The meeting, held in Lake Meech with representatives from the US, France, El Salvador, the European Union, and the Organization of American States, discussed placing Haiti under the “tutelage” of the UN, possible military intervention, and the removal of Aristide from power. No Haitian representative was present at the meeting.
According to Yves Engler, co-author of the book Canada in Haiti: Waging War on the Poor Majority, the 2000 elections in Haiti were widely contested by opposition parties aligned with the business class and petite bourgeoisie of Port-au-Prince. They alleged that the legislature elections were rigged and that the rules were not respected. Opposition partisans organized a boycott of the presidential elections, giving Aristide a victory with more than 92 per cent of the vote. This was only a scheme to delegitimize the elections by the Haitian upper classes to destabilise the government in place.
Aristide’s social democratic policies threatened the Haitian business class and western multinationals. It seems clear that the coup was motivated not by worry for the poor Haitian population but simply by economic interests.
And the economic interests of Canadian corporations are doing pretty well, since the coup. Gildan is a Montreal based company with annual revenue of about $2 billion. It operates its factories in Haiti. Gildan doesn’t pay their workers minimum wage in Haiti. It systematically steals about half the wages, forcing their employees into debt, to live in slums and to only eat one meal a day. When the workers try to unionize, they get fired. Nine per cent of the company’s shares are owned by the Caisse de Dépôt et de Placement—a Québec government investment fund, our retirement fund.
There’s also gold, copper and bauxite on the island—the gold reserves alone are estimated to value $20 billion. Canadian corporations dominate the mining industry in Haiti, just like elsewhere in the Global South. Two of them—Ste-Genevieve Resources and Eurasian Minerals—resumed their operations shortly after the Latortue government was instated. Ste-Genevieve owns the prospecting rights for 10 per cent of the entire country, according to Yves Engler.
Steve Lachapelle—a board member of Ste-Genevieve—said to The Toronto Star that “with all the problems the country has had, they realize that they have to play the game with investors or things are going to keep getting worse.” With the horrific track record of Canadian mining corporations around the world, Haitians are unlikely to get their fair share when the extraction begins.
Since the UN peacekeeping force began occupying Haiti, they have been held responsible for many atrocities. From the cholera outbreak of 2010 that killed over 9,700 Haitians—which occurred after a Nepalese Blue Helmets camp dumped sewage water in rivers people drank and bathed from—to the multiple instances of massacres in the pro-Aristide slums like Cité-Soleil.
The death toll from the occupation has since well-surpassed 10,000 people. While Aristide’s administration wasn’t free of critique, the human rights situation has greatly deteriorated since western powers—including Canada—took over to protect our economic interests in the country.
In a diplomatic cable released by Wikileaks from 2008, the American embassy can be seen advocating to prolong the military occupation to prevent “resurgent populist and anti-market economy political forces.” In other words, the occupying forces are afraid of Haitian democracy.
There’s a proverb in creole: Konstitusyon se papye, babyonet se fe. A constitution is made of paper, but bayonets are made of steel.
