I ship every canonical Tolkien couple - except Aerin & Brodda, Aredhel & Eöl, and Tar-Míriel & Ar-Pharazôn. Those poor ladies deserved so much better than those pathetic a-holes.
(I also kinda think Melian could’ve done better than Thingol.)
These are the “non-canonical” Tolkien pairings that I ship, since nobody asked.
Frodo x Sam (it’s literally canon, period, forget the “non-canonical” category, it’s right there, it’s real)
Frodo x Sam x Rosie (Sam being shared during that year in Bag End; also all but spelled out)
Bilbo x Thorin (obviously; even in the book, it’s subtextual, but it’s THERE)
Fingon x Maedhros (Beren/Lúthien + Frodo/Sam parallels are no joke; yes yes i know i know they’re first cousins and that should be a dealbreaker, and for a while it was for me, but technically they’re HALF-cousins, they only share one grandparent, and it’s not like they can procreate together, so it’s very different from what it would be if one of them was female, also their story is inherently tragic and I think their being related adds to that)
Túrin x Beleg (also, obviously; just read their scenes and you can tell - ALSO the fact that Túrin never mentions Beleg again after Glaurung’s attack … do y’all realize that dragon wiped his memories of the love of his life and the reason he was triggered into romantic feelings for Níniel was because he saw a blond person lying on the ground under a flash of lightning which was also the way he saw Beleg for the last time and his heart remembers that even though his mind doesn’t?????)
Mablung x Nienor (he just did so much for her and never gave up on searching for her until he then had to live with the knowledge that she was dead and he failed her … she lost all her memories of him and married her brother … the idea that they fell in love in Doriath before all this makes for a practically perfect tragic love story. Best part is he knew and loved her for her real self, whereas Turambar and Brandir both fell in love with an amnesiac shell of herself.)
Finrod x Bëor (yes, Finrod loved Amarië too …BUT look at how Bëor gave up everything to spend the rest of his life with Finrod, and how Finrod lost Bëor to mortality but then laid down his life for Bëor’s descendant; the angst is just too juicy to ignore)
I do not ship Merry and Pippin at all; not only are they full blooded first cousins, but since Merry is an only child and Pippin only has sisters, they very clearly fill that “brother” role in each other’s lives.
After a lot of thought, I’ve decided that queerplatonic Legolas/Gimli makes the most sense to me. They also fill the “brother” role in each other’s lives since they both have no blood siblings. I understand why many people do ship them romantically/sexually, but the thought of anything sexual between them just doesn’t feel right to me, personally. Even the thought of kisses just doesn’t seem to fit them, IMO; they’re about mutual respect and sharing quality time, rather than anything physical. To me they exemplify “heterosexual life partners” perfectly.

Thoughts on Galadriel.
To be honest, I do not think the Noldor who lived in Beleriand and ME after the war liked Galadriel much. (I love Galadriel and loved what Cate Blanchett as her in the movies) But like thinking about the Noldor of Beleriand, excluding those who lived in Gondolin and Nargothrond before both kingdoms fell, Galadriel basically abandoned the Noldor the moment she set foot in Beleriand. She went to Menegroth and stayed there under the protection of Melian for the most part of the first age, all while the rest of the Noldor, her brothers included, were out in the frontlines of war.
Even during the long peace, most of the Noldor in Beleriand had to see orcs attacks and such, their homes were not 100% safe, they didn't have the luxury of being protected by a Maia. The Valar had more or less abandoned the people of Beleriand (not just the Noldor) to their fates. So while the people who lived in Barad Eithel, Dorthonion, Ladros, Himlad, who were basically the ones holding the siege, all those people who died during the fire. Who had to move further south. Those elves could see Fingon, Fingolfin, Angrod, Aegnor, and the Feanorians willing to protect their people and die for them. (and I bet Aredhel would have been there too if she hadn't been kidnapped by Eol but that's another thing). But like Galadriel once she stepped in Doriath she never left until she felt considerably threatened and when she did, she and Celeborn moved east beyond the blue mountains. She wasn't even there when the war of wrath really broke out. Like right now I don't really remember if she managed to see the host of valinor and when the war was done and she did come back to the coast... she was denied passage.
Galadriel couldn't go back to Valinor by the end of the first age because I remember reading that she was denied passage, because she was not humble. The Galadriel we see in LOtR is an older and wiser Galadriel that had perhaps realized that most of her actions in the first age were born of hypocrisy (Hipocrisy was a big theme in the first age but that's also another story).
So what I want to get at is, Galadriel was not named queen of the Noldor and was not included in Noldori Politics at all during the second age (looking at you Amazon), because I don't think the Noldor considered one of them anymore. I think that the moment she decided to marry a sinda and remain in menegroth with the rest of Thingol's people she was 'set aside' by the Noldor as a whole. So yeah, those are my thoughts regarding Galadriel, if anyone else wants to add anything else, I'll be more than happy to read your thoughts <3

Against Curufin’s better judgement, he leaves Tyelko in charge of Himlad for a month while he goes off to visit with Finrod down in Nargothrond. Tyelpe, who lept at the chance to be away from his brooding hen of a parent for a moment, had begged to stay in Himlad with Tyelko and Huan.
Against Curufin’s better judgement, he allowed it. He knew his son would be safe and well taken care of as long as his brother and the dog didn’t vanish into the wilds on a month long hunt. The threat of siccing the wrath of their eldest brother onto the blonde if he did vanish and leave his son unsupervised also was a good incentive to behave.
Against Curufin’s better judgement, he had a peaceful and relaxing three and a half weeks spending time with his charming half cousin, telling himself everything would be normal and fine when he went back. It was honestly a delight to be able to catch up with Finrod in person, gossiping about what the rest of the Arafinwean brood was up to-- as truth be told they were his favourite kin outside of his brothers-- visiting the sights, and spending time in Nargothrond’s somewhat adequate forges. He spent many an afternoon swapping tricks of the trade with the Dwarven and Men smiths that had made themselves a home in the underground city, and it was so enjoyable and educational that he almost regretted allowing Tyelpe to stay behind. This would have been a good experience for him.
It was a handful of days before he was supposed to start the long trek back to Himlad and Curufin was with his half cousin, chatting amicably and strolling through the aboveground marketplace. It was interesting to see such a booming centre for trade, and Curufin spotted many of the traders baring Moryo’s version of the Feanorian Star Emblem on their person or booths. He knew his elder brother had an iron fist on the trade routes in Beleriand, but it was a different thing seeing it in person on non-Fenorian lands. Finrod, it seems, was either used to seeing Caranthir’s symbol all over his markets, or was woefully blind to it, which Curufin doubted. The two browsed the many stalls for trinkets and baubles, Finrod on the hunt to add to his dragon hoard of accessories, and Curufin looking to bring back home something for his son and brother for their good behaviour.
Against Curufin’s better judgement, he didn’t think the messenger hawk that was flying right at them was anything to be concerned about. He didn’t even think it was for him until he saw the scroll attached to the bird’s leg.
Continue reading below, or on Ao3
Then, Curufin felt his heart falter in its rhythm for a moment. No messenger bird for Finrod would ever carry a written message. His heart proceeded to plummet into the pit of his stomach as he recognized Celegorm's third fastest hawk, the one that his son doted on and normally took out when exploring the mineral deposits in the hold.
Vilya, he thinks with dread.Tyelpe named the bird diving at him with speed and exhaustion Vilya. The hawk flared out its wings and landed gracefully on Finrod’s outstretched arm, its chest heaving from a very long and fast flight.
Quickly, Curufin reached over and took the letter attached to the bird's foot. Finrod, being the empathic fool that he is, shuffled nervously from foot to foot beside him, craning his neck to try and read the letter over his shoulder.
Curufin almost crushed the letter in his grip when he read the first sentence.
"Don't be mad, but uncle and I were hunting out near Nan Elmoth, even though you told us to stay away from Eol's lands. We had everything under control, I swear! But, as I was walking along the river bed by our camp, hoping to find some new minerals, Aunt Aredhel and her son burst through the wood!"
Aredhel? A son? Curufin had no idea his half cousin was even married, let alone long enough to have a child. Last he heard, she was missing, along with her brother Turgon somewhere in the mountains. What was she doing near Nan Elmoth? Finrod made a choked sound behind him, like a drowning pig, and Curufin, instincts honed from so many nosey brothers, mindlessly shoved him away as his eyes roved over the letter.
"I managed to catch up with them, and her son- whose name is Lomion- told me they were fleeing from his father! Aunt Aredhel was apparently bridenapped by Lord Eol, were you aware of such a thing? Stealing a wife! Anyways, Lomion told me they were fleeing to his uncle Turgon's hidden home, where Eol would never find them. Gondolin, father! The city uncle Neylo and Fingon have been trying to find for years! And father, I couldn't just leave them! Aunt Aredhel looked so worn, her hair had streaks of grey just like uncle Neylo’s, and they both were so scared! Aunt Aredhel swung me on the back of Lomion’s horse, so I fled with them to Gondolin. Father, I’m so sorry but I was so caught up in the excitement, that I forgot to send Vilya with a message to uncle, to let him know what happened. But, I suppose when I wasn't back by nightfall, uncle and Huan went looking for me. He and Huan tracked me all the way to Gondolin's gates and demanded that they let me go or to let them inside. You should have heard him scream, father, I’ve never seen uncle so furious, I thought he was going to throw his hunting spear right at poor Glorfindel who was guarding the gate.
Oh father, it's been awful. Well, not Gondolin itself, it's a very beautiful city and the forges aren’t that bad, and they have so much mithril here father! Rog, one of the smith lords here says the mountains and caves within and surrounding the city are rich with it, which is incredible! He promised to take Lomion and I to see a mithril mine soon, can you believe that? Veins of the strongest metal just laying around, just think of the works you could make with such quantities! I’ve been talking with Lomion about the mithril jewellery they have here and I have some ideas I think you might like ab–” The sentence abruptly ends, the letters jerking into a smudge, like Tyelpe’s hand was jostled while writing.
With a frantic flip of the page he sees the writing continuing on the back. “Lord Eol showed up shortly after uncle, and he was a raving madman, father. He screamed and swore and made such ugly demands and if it wasn’t for the clear look in his eyes I would have sworn he had not a sane thought in his head. Uncle Turgon had to let him in before he attracted Morgoth’s attention. He and uncle and Uncle Turgon and Aunt Aredhel were screaming at each other in the throne room for a long time. I stayed behind with Lomion and Huan, and father, the poor boy was shaking. I can't believe he lived with such a creature for his entire life! I don’t remember what was said, but suddenly Lord Eol was brandishing his spear and launched it right at us! We would have been killed if it wasn't for Huan knocking away the poisoned spear at the last second. The poison on it must have gotten on him somehow cause Huan is really sick now, but believed to be better soon. Uncle Turgon was furious, he was yelling and demanding Eol's head for daring to kill Lomion, when uncle picked up Eol’s poisoned spear and threw it back at him. Oh father, I wish I could wash the memory from my mind, the way Eol screamed as Uncle Turgon dragged him from the halls, his blood trailing through the street as we followed them to the gate ramparts. Before Uncle Turgon tossed him over the wall Eol spent his last breath cursing his own son, I don’t think I’ll ever be able to forget how Lomion’s hand trembled in mine as we watched. I didn’t think Uncle Turgon could be so cruel."
Normally, Curufin wouldn’t be able to either. But the thought, no the memories, of what he did to protect his son and brothers during the Kinslaying, well he could easily imagine what his stuffy half-cousin was thinking as he ended that scum's life. His hands shook, just imagining the peril his son was in. What if Eol missed and pierced his precious Tyelpe? Or if his aim was true and his son would have to watch his new cousin die. Bless Celegorm’s unwavering aim and Turgon’s uncharacteristic rage.
Finrod was gripping at his arm, clearly having read the letter along with him. He was saying something, but the words were indistinct and lost to the ringing in his ears.
"Well, father I'm really sorry, but uncle, Huan and I are stuck here for the time being. Uncle Turgon told us we are not allowed to leave, or to tell anywhere where we are. I wasn't allowed to write clues or send a map along with this letter either. Infact, I had to argue very hard to be able to send it at all. Aunt Aredhel helped greatly with persuading her brother. But have heart, father!  Uncle and I are faring well so far, and Huan is regaining his strength by the day! Maeglin and I are becoming fast friends, and it is nice to see Idril again, despite the circumstances.
I hope you enjoy the rest of your time with Uncle Finrod. I hope I’ll be able to see you again, father. I’ll write back as soon as Vilya returns.
- Yours dearly,
Celebrimbor"
At the bottom of the letter was a little doodle, one not in his son’s detailed and precise hand, but looking more like Celegorm’s hasty scrawl. The doodle consists of a blobby figure that is clearly Finrod from the sparkles surrounding him and the wide smile splitting its crude face. The figure is surrounded by, annoyingly accurate and tellingly more thought out then the rest of the doodle, birds. They must be singing for there are lines and dots that Curufin realises are music notes around them all. Beside the blob-Finrod, is another hasty doodle, one Curufin could recognize half blind as Celegorm’s terrible interpretation of him. Shorter than blob-Finrod, scowling pout on its triangle face, and his version of the Fenaorian Star drawn on the blob that must be his chest. Little blob-Curufin also has his signature forge hammer in one hand. There was no note to go along with the doodle, nothing to give that hunt obsessed asshole’s side of the event, no plans on how to escape Gondolin, or to contact their other brothers. Not his account on how Tyelpe is handling everything, or some sort of bullshit reassurance for his favourite younger brother who has just read a terrifying account of what has just happened to his only son in his care. Nothing, not even Celegorm’s signature or emblem to sign off the doodle.
Curufin screamed.
His hands wanted to tear that damned letter to shreds but some distant part of his brain not blinded by worry and rage knew to stay his hand to the last thing he had of Tyelpe’s presence on this land.
There were hands on his face, and he looked through the tears he hadn’t realised were blurring his eyes at his dumb stupid half-cousin. Sudden rage shot through his body and Curufin wanted nothing more than to rip into the Elf cradling his face in his hands. If Curufin hadn’t visited this stupid blonde waste of space, he would have been home at Himland, and none of this would have happened! Tyelpe would be doing his forge work, and Celegorm would be off hunting and doing fuck all in the woods like he normally does! Eol wouldn’t have tried to kill his darling little boy, nor would his child be ripped away from him, hidden who-knows-fuck-where with fucking Turgon of all people!
Suddenly, all fury dissipated in his body, making Curufin feel off balance and light headed at the sudden change.
Finrod, who was still cupping his face in his hands and ignoring the snarling Curufin must have been doing, was humming a lullaby threaded with Power. As he wobbled, feet suddenly unsteady and vision blurring again, Curufin tried his best to rally up his anger again to no avail. He toppled into Finrod’s chest, feeling his older half-cousin scoop him up and cradle him close. The letter was gently plucked from his hand, and unable to fight the Power of the lullaby, slowly succumbed to sleep.
Fucking Singers, was Curufin’s last thought as he felt Finrod start to move. They never fight fair.
It was suddenly and all at once that Curufin was conscious again. He bolted up, arms tossed out blindingly searching for the son he knew wasn’t there. He looked around frantically, heart racing as tried to find a trace of his son, or what happened.
Finrod, however, was sitting at a desk across the room. He was staring at Curufin, a wary smile on his face as he studied his cousin.
Curufin met his eyes and snarled, suddenly remembering the dirty trick in the market. He shifted, ready to push himself up and throttle his half-cousin for putting him to sleep when he should have been looking for a way to save his son. And his idiot brother he supposes.
When suddenly, Curufin tumbled off the fainting chair he was laying on, having shifted too close to the edge.
With an embarrassed and frustrated snarl, he shook himself off and leapt to his feet, ready to verbally tear into his half-cousin when Finrod spoke over him.
“Now that you’re awake, cousin, we are ready to head out.” With that he folded up the piece of paper in his hands and stood. “If we hurry, we can leave before the letters I sent out reach your brothers and our uncle. I’m sure Caranthir’s little snoops have already sent their own messages to him about your outburst. If we leave now, we can have a day’s head start on them. The only issue will be Maedhros or Fingon cutting us off at the mountains. We could rest at Tol Sirion, but I’m afraid that would just give those two more time to try and stop us.”
As he spoke, Finrod was striding around the room, his office, shuffling documents around and looking over everything with a critical eye. He nodded, satisfied with the state of his office and turned to Curufin, giving his cousin a blinding smile.
“Come on now, I had the servants pack up your things and some of my stuff as well!” With that he bent down behind his desk and pulled out two large travelling packs. He tossed the bag with the darker bedroll at Curufin, who caught it and swung it on his shoulders absently.
Curufin studied his half-cousin critically, all traces of anger gone. “You know where my son is being held?”
Finrod nodded, “Of course, I asked Vilya. She was never sworn to secrecy about Gondolin’s location, and she loves little Tyelpe too, she knows how much being away from you will hurt him. So between her directions, and my blessing of Ulmo, I know we’ll be able to find Gondolin with no issues.” He paused. “Unless your brothers or our cousins get in the way. I’m very confident that if he gets the chance, Maedhros could very well stop us from going to the city that people never come out of again. Except for Aredhel apparently.” Another pause. “So let’s go!”
Curufin was already at the door, ready to see his son and strangle his brother for letting something like this happen. “Well, an easy solution for not getting Neylo involved, is to not involve him.” He snarked, striding down the halls of Nargothrond at a fast clip. Finrod with his stupidly tall legs following with ease. “Why send everyone a letter if you know they are just going to hinder us.”
“Well,” Finrod snarked back, practically pulling Curufin out of the main doors that were hastily opened by the guard. “I just don’t think it’s a wise idea for three of the Noldorian Lords of Beleirand to just up and vanish within the span of a month. I know your brothers, you know your brothers, and we both know Fingon. This knowledge should be enough to know that the world around us would burn down if we just left without a trace.” Finrod snorted and stopped yanking Curufin as they reached the royal stables.
His horse, a beautiful white and black spotted mare gifted from Maglor’s prized stock, knickered at him. She was eager to be on her way, right beside Finrod’s handsome all-white stallion who looked ready to run on command.
Curufin wasted no time leaping upon his horse, Finrod mirroring his movements beside him. With a brief mental nudge, letting his mare know we needed to leave and now, they were off.
The world around them blurred as they raced, Finrod humming a Song that made him and their horses feel energised, like they could run for days without stopping. Soon, Nargothrond was behind them, and they were racing across the vast open plains towards the Crossing of Teiglin. They rode without falter, without distraction. So focused on their journey, that Curufin didn’t even notice Vilya soaring above them, easily keeping pace with the help of Finrod’s Song.
Finrod shared her directions. Once they pass the Crossing, they must reach where the Sirion meets the Dry River, then she can lead them through the twists and turns of the mountains to Gondolin.
Just wait, Curufin seethed, no one was going to keep his son away from him. Not even his family.
Against Turgon’s better judgement, he should have known the Feanorians would ruin all of his plans.

Celegorm Appreciation
Celegorm is many things, and has changed across various iterations of the legendarium, but I agree that he is not stupid - he is not mindless or a beast.
Celegorm is still a son of Feanor, proud, intelligent, persuasive. Capable of leading and inspiring and - if the occasion calls for it - instilling bone deep terror in his audience.
You don't overthrow and usurp the "fairest and most beloved of the house of Finwë" being an idiot. That takes talent.
To that end, let's have some Celegorm appreciation! Feel free to add your own or those you love to the list!

Hamilton songs as the Silmarillion prt 1
Who lives, Who dies, Who tells your story: Elrond Peredhel. Thinking mainly about all the kids he fosters in Elros’ line. But also the idea of him preserving the histories and memory of the Feanorians alongside the rest of his family.
Quiet Uptown: Either kidnap fam, with everyone’s assorted trauma (I think maybe Mae and Mags thinking about their brothers) or Feanor and Nerdanel reuniting after everything
Say no to this: Silvergifting. Celebrimbor and Annatar. Need I say more?
Burn: Nerdanel obviously. I’ve heard that take before and honestly it seems written for her. But I’m also going to add the possibility of Curufinrod. Some parts more than others I feel would also fit either point of view for that one. I lean a little more towards Curvo though. Maybe some kind of jealousy towards Beor and Barahir?
Non stop: Maedhros after Angband. All the diplomacy over letters, probably from his sick bed. The song just describes him so well. Also Elros.
Helpless: Luthien and Beren fits very well. But also Halenthir if we’re getting creative. Especially the bits about meddling siblings.
Satisfied: Russingon. If we’re going with Fingon having a wife. Forbidden love. It just makes me emotional. From Maedhros point of view.
Room where it happens: Nargothrond. Mainly Curufin and Celegorm and Orodreth. Feat Finrod and Beren.
Alexander Hamilton: Feanor. Just Feanor.
Schuyler Sisters: The three Cs. Just imagine it. Also Idril, Aredhel and Galadriel works. But seriously Celegorm, Caranthir - and Curufin. It would be incredible.
Farmer Refuted: Feanor harassing Eonwe while being backed up by Celegorm and Curufin. So funny.
You’ll be back: Thingol talking to literally anyone. He just has that entitled vibe. Also maybe Sauron to Maedhros.
Right Hand Man: Elrond and Gil Galad when they meet during the War of Wrath.

your headcanon about fingon delivering "mercy death" on the Ice is something I never considered before but it's really interesting and heartbreaking
Thank you @that-angry-noldo, I'm so glad you think it's interesting! It's pretty much headcanon territory only haha, but I like the thought of him and Aredhel, as well as Agron and Aegnor and Angrod creating a sort of task force in keeping the host safe, but Fingon 'friend of all' specializing in rescuing people from the most terrible conditions.
Snow storms, broken ice, caught on a floe tide, fallen down a crevasse - Fingon will take his arrows and use them as ice picks, he will carry them out, and down, and away. And when it isn't possible, he will use the arrows as best he can.
It's a big, big responsibility, brought in part from his guilt about the Kinslaying, and in part by what he understands princedom to be. Which is: service; which is - making sure the last song is a good song, and that those that have to be left behind can head it to the last.
And the worst of it is that he is excellent at it! I have many strong feelings about how Fingon did in the Ice, and how he is well-suited to it but that only adds another layer to the horror. He does well at these efforts, this mad, courageous, terrifying feats, that demand such a honed intelligence, caution, patience, wisdom and an unending wlel of hope and will. But it isn't unending at all - the Fingon that arrives to Beleriand and, in time, arranges the Union, does so having been taught by the Ice how to temper his impulses into determined action, how to think fast and decide with justice, grace and mercy.
He would have aimed directly at Maedhros' heart, if the eagle hadn't come; and he would not have missed a quarter of an inch.

Thinking about elves and babies again (thanks @tolkien-feels ) and thinking about how different Finwion child-rearing would have been in Beleriand vs Aman.
I generally think of elves as being Very Into babies and children and parenting, in a less... complicated way than humans, because it accounts for a much smaller portion of their adult lives. Like, Nerdanel can have seven kids without forfeiting her career, because she’ll have millennia to do things once her kids are adults. In any elvish culture where everyone is pretty materially secure, extended parental leave makes sense if only as a byproduct of immortality. Even a childhood that lasts twice or four times as long as a human’s is going to be an infinitesimally small part of an elf’s expected lifespan. If a human takes 18 years to raise a child, and lives until 85, that’s about 20% of their entire life. If an elf takes 100 years to raise a child and is killed at 3000 years old, that’s only about 3% of their total life.
Now add to this the way that Finwe and his descendants seem to be particularly baby-mad. There are just a lot of kids/cousins running around, and relatedly a lot of adults to help out. There’s a significant support network there to help with parenting advice, and babysitting, and peers to set up playdates etc. That first generation of Finwion cousins have a built-in peer network, and an assortment of trusted adults, all clustered in Tirion and Alqualonde.
And then that social landscape is so completely different in Beleriand. For one thing there are so many only children. Idril*, Celebrimbor*, Maeglin, depending on your choice of parentage Finduilas and Gil-Galad as well. And their parents are all living in different fortresses/cities on a war-torn landmass. There’s no way to casually ask a cousin or sibling or aunt/uncle or grandparent to babysit. There are no spontaneous playdates. Aredhel has no option to ask her brothers or father for parenting advice. Orodreth can’t just pass a colicky baby to Finrod so he can get a nap.
And the thing is, the cousins *wanted* space. They wanted to not be jostling shoulders with each other, they didn’t want relatives peering over their shoulders offering unsolicited advice. And for the most part, I suspect that the space was good and healthy for everyone! But even setting aside the constant risk of attack, parenting in Beleriand would have been so much harder.

HOUSE OF FINWE
Tumblr media
Headcannons for Maglor, Caranthir, Amrod&Amras, Fingolfin, Gil-Galad, Turgon, Eärendil Elros&Elrond, Aredhel, Eöl, Maeglin, Finafin, Finrod, Angrod, Aegnor, Galadriel, Celebrían, Elladan&Elrohir below
Maglor:
Maglor manipulates his way through Valinor and kept doing it in Beleriand both in songs and way of words and knowing when to keep away. He also tears his eyes out in a moment of insanity after he hears about Celebrimbor's death which he founds out at the end of the second age when Elrond finds him (he wasn´t close enough to stop him) to take him home, right before Gil-Galad´s death.
Caranthir:
Caranthir is autistic and loves working with textiles of any kind and he will go on for hours without end about it, he also knows the laws a bit too well to find loopholes. taxfraud (I also headcannon him as being Erector's dad but didn´t add it here)
Amrod & Amras:
Amraod was on the ships when Feanor burned them and he lost most of his left face, his body was heavily scarred and the worst was on the left side, he also lost two fingers and when Maedhros comes back from Angband he keeps making fun of it telling him they could borrow each other's hands, he did lose his ability to speak but Caranthir designed sign langue for him and Amras translated to others. Amrod was always more of a scholar and enjoyed beauty quite a lot, he would sometimes join Amras and Celegorm on hunts. Amras was the more outspoken of the twins and usually spoke for Amrod outside of court and after the burning of the ships he became Amrod voice as Amrod followed him no matter what and even insisted on sharing a bed (Amras didn´t mind they´ve always shared a bedroom and when they were smaller bed)
Fingolfin:
I like to think he's all for jewels but only when he has something to do, when he's home or something like that he wears the simplest and most comfortable available, but when he has somewhere to be or do, he goes crazy on the jewels, also he´s an introvert.
Gil-Galad:
He used to straighten his hair for a long time when he first came to power and only really stopped in the few years before his death because of Elrond.
Turgon:
Turgon is autistic. I mean look at his action and think about it, also loves architecture.
Eärendil:
I don´t think Eärendil and Elwing ever really loved each other, they were good childhood friends but when they got married it was more of a chore. It was only later, long into the third age, that they began having romantic feelings for each other. Later when he has sailed with the Silmaril for a lot of years he turns blind and his forehead is always heavily burnt and sometimes there´s blood in his hair
Elros & Elrond:
Elros and Elrond got their eyes from Turgon and the reason they´re so light is 1. the Silmaril 2. the Maia part, also keeps Elros away from scissors it took Elrond years to convince him to grow 1/4 of his hair long after Maedhros gave him permission to wear his hair whoever he wants (later when he becomes king, he makes a habit of covering his hair).
Aredhel:
She wears white because her mom usually wears either light colors or white. She and Eöl love each other very much they just understand the world in two different ways which sometimes makes them quarrel.
Eöl:
I headcannon Eöl as a Maia of Aule who joined Melkor but left. His hair is purple and so is Maeglin´s, although he kept dyeing Maeglin´s hair to hide the real color for everyone. Maeglin never really relies it's unnatural color and just thinks some Avarins hair has that color and Aredhel just believes it turned purple because of Melian, she and Thingol know Eöl is a Maia, she also joins for tea sometimes. The tattoo symbol on Eöl´s forehead is picked up from dwarves (it stands for protection) nobody ever realizes Eöl is a Maia except when Fingon joins Aredhel to try and find him when they have been reborn. Aredhel says they should check the halls of Aule as he´s a smith and when they arrive Fingon finds a Maia if he has seen an Avarin named Eöl, Eöl (the Maia Fingon asked) doesn't have the time to explain before Aredhel crashes him in a hug. Also, he´s dyeing his hair to make it look like northern light which he really likes (Melkor made it and gave a jar with it to Eöl who now has it in his office or something)
Maeglin:
Maeglin always saw himself as part of Eöl´s house and never really Fingolfin´s, although he does end up staying with his grandad until they find his dad, Eöl didn´t know he was back as Maeglin decided to stay a long time in Mandos and Namo ended up telling Eöl to stop coming and that Maeglin wasn't ever coming out (BIG MISUNDERSTANDING HAPPENS)
Finarfin:
Finarfin has bangs because he has a little scar on his forehead from an accident when he was smaller. He always wanted kingship which was the main reason for him staying behind.
Finrod:
He will go to sleep in his jewels. He also wishes for kingship like his dad, although he might be a bit better at hiding it and making people do as he wants (he´s a snake and I love him)
Angrod:
No, I didn´t add his wife because I didn´t know how to make space for her. His always there to listen or help his brother (Aegnor).
Aegnor:
He´s always had depressive tendencies but when they arrived at Beleriand it kicked hard and the fact that Angrod has a wife while Finrod kept telling him to stay away from Andreth didn´t help.
Galadriel:
Galadriel wants power and she will do anything to get her way. Tolkien makes it known that she´s prideful and "too wild" for the Valar´s liking many times. Although she might be even better than Finrod hiding her lust for power as she´s less reckless.
Celebrían:
Celebrían colors her hair in honor of her father's culture.
Elladan Elrohir:
Elladan has a tattoo of a blue branch on his right chin and Elrohir on his left.

Eöl grimaced. “Must I endure your relatives?” “Considering [you] bartered our son,” Aredhel said, voice low and sharp. “I believe it is owed.”
Realizing I am absolutely ignoring canon since Aredhel gets to be the strong huntress that she is, being of equal footing with her husband (and his questionable choices) and her family gets to visit (even if he doesn't care for them). Hey. That's why it's an AU fic. What even is canon. I don't even know anymore. Quite frankly, I need to check the source material to make sure timelines add up—even loosely. Side note: [You] is because I cannot remember whether or not thou would be the correct usage here.

How much would Miriel like the descendants of Indis?
Fingolfin: 7/10 - She’d respect him a lot but be disappointed in the fact he low key antagonized her son enough for Feanor to believe Melkor’s lies about him. Of course, she knows Feanor is mostly at fault their trash relationship but she still thinks Fingolfin could have done a little better. She’d mostly like him though and definitely wouldn’t blame him for Feanor’s moral failures.
Finarfin: 7.5/10 - She’d like him but wouldn’t have much of an opinion on him.
Fingon: 100/10 - He’d be her favorite. She’d highly approve of his fashion sense, would probably enjoy singing ballads with him, and he risked his life to save her grandbaby from the a-hole Valar.
Turgon: 8/10 - She’d think he handled single parenting a whole lot better than Finwe.
Aredhel: 10/10 - She’d genuinely like her. I think she’d see a lot of Finwe in her due to Aredhel’s bravery, curiosity, and undying love for her child.
Finrod: 11/10 - Finrod is just so genuinely kind and selfless, it’s hard to see anyone disliking him.
Aegnor: 9/10 - His fiery personality probably reminded her of all her own son’s best qualities. I also think she’d feel for and relate to him.
Galadriel: 6/10 - Would respect her but think she was an a-hole to Feanor for no reason.
Elrond: 50/10 - Would be 100% cool with accepting him as a great grandson.
I didn’t add many others because there either isn’t enough info on them or I genuinely don’t have the slightest idea what Miriel would think about them.

Fingon for the ask game if that's still going/you still want to!
YES thank you. "most guy of all time" (The Lost Road and Other Writings, "Quenta Silmarillion", §94)
one aspect about them i love
oh i love absolutely every action he takes in the silmarillion. honestly i read some characters (maglor, for instance) as semi-aware of the fact that they're living in a tragedy, and he's almost... genre savvy in the wrong way? if this was a different kind of story everything he does would pay off. doomed romance/epic hero trapped in a revenge tragedy. love that for him.
one aspect i wish more people understood about them
hmmm i've got a couple. (a) i don't think he's an unwavering force of extraverted optimism the way the fandom often seems to think? like, that bitch is traumatized and regretful with the rest of them, he's just choosing to cling to hope despite it all. (b) i am a hardcore russingon shipper but i do wish i saw him with motivations that extended past maedhros more often in fic. i don't like the take that he killed at alqualonde just because (or even mostly because) of his feelings (romantic or platonic) for maedhros, or that maedhros was the motivation for his leaving aman.
one (or more) headcanon(s) i have about this character
i think he has a ton of random crap in case he ever needs it. this is partly because they marched across the grinding ice with insufficient tools and supplies and partly because he's a magpie. has a LOT of different knives. carries several quills and inkwells on him at all times. stuffs any extra seeds leftover from planting into his shirt pockets. he sees hurin use a tobacco packer, and, despite not smoking, kind of feels like he needs to have one.
i think he has a very pronounced set of gallows humor delivered very cheerfully. very expressive, very outgoing, very prone to wild parties with finrod or hurin or a&a, so it almost doesn't register that he just said something very off-the-wall or bleak.
Tiny visual headcanon compilation: messy handwriting, curls, brown eyes, lip piercing, can't think without pacing.
one character i love seeing them interact with
ohh man well. you already know i love fingon/maedhros. i also really enjoy him with any of his siblings (i think i imagine he gets along a lot more easily with aredhel and has a complicated intense relationship with turgon), his father, most of his cousins. honestly just gonna take him to the elf park and let him off leash i love it when he hangs out with people
one character i wish they would interact with/interact with more
angrod and aegnor! we learn that they were friends, but they don't really interact much in the actual book, and we're kinda left to guess what the dynamic was like.
one (or more) headcanon(s) i have that involve them and one other character
i see people writing him and maglor as at-odds with each other a lot but i personally think they were decent friends. not super close, but similar in age and perfectly happy to hang out if the opportunity struck.
i think he was very close with his father, probably closer than any of his siblings. fingolfin's iciness and his general warmth probably seemed contradictory to people who didn't know them well, but they were both mostly fronts to hide their true feelings. i think fingon probably brought out a rarely-seen playful side in his father.
to add on to that: i think fingolfin and maedhros have a very similar dry/bleak/flat sense of humor, and fingon feels very at home around it.
i go "gil-galad son of oropher" as my personal headcanon (or, recently, mostly towards "gil-galad and finduilas are the same person"). so i don't think he was gil-galad's father but i think he corresponded with gil-galad a lot via letters. and perhaps gil-galad did come to see himself, both before and after his death, as a sort of spiritual successor -- a scion not of blood but symbolically

I still taste the past - Chapter 11
Relationships: Curufin/Finrod, Celegorm/Aredhel (background) Summary: Finrod wanted to see Curufin, get his closure after all they had gone through, end things once and for all. What he gets is a journey through the memory of where they've been and the choice of where they will go. TW: none. A/N: Enjoy!
Masterlist - Also on AO3

Ëarwen paced back and forth, she wished she could be in Alqualondë at that moment, in Alqualondë there never was true silence, the sound of the waves would always be there to lull the mind and help one to find peace. Tirion, however, was not that, in the hours under the sun it was busy and one would always have one or the other sound to distract them, but at night the only sound she had were her own steps, her own heartbeat, her own disoriented thoughts.
Ingoldo's revelation had been more than she'd ever thought possible, to think that he'd been in love with Curufinwë all this time, but, no, when she thought back to that time she could now see it different. Looks shared when they thought no one was watching, not so accidental touches she had dismissed through the years, and that day, when she had wondered why her nephew had thrown his drink at Ingoldo, now she wondered how she'd not seen it sooner.
She longed to tell Arafinwë, confide all her feelings and being soothed in his arms but she didn't want to tell anything that Ingoldo wasn't yet ready to share, she knew it was correct but how lonely it made her feel, to know alone.
A grandson.
Telperinquar, her grandson.
Ëarwen sighed, feeling her chest tighten, Telperinquar, she had so few memories associated with her first grandson and now she knew that to have been deliberate, a bright child usually his father's arms, following every step his grandfather made regardless of how big the imprint Fëanàro left behind. Dead, used by Sauron, Telperinquar.
When Ingoldo told her, an anger she hadn't felt since Alqualondë made it's way through her, incandescent rage Ëarwen thought she had left behind in these days of peace, leading her to pace up and down.
Curufinwë Atarinkë.
Her heart would have no peace until she heard what he had to say in his defense. She stopped pacing and grabbed some paper so she could leave Arafinwë a message then, in the dead of night, Ëarwen left to meet her grandson's other parent.
Tumblr media
It was night again by the time she arrived at Curufinwë's house, she could've rested and left it for the next day but she had waited two ages of this world, she wasn't willing to wait anymore.
She knocked.
Perhaps she had thought that when she saw Curufinwë again there would be something different about him, she shouldn't have of course, all of Ingoldo's changes had been in his mind, she knew that, but still she had thought there would be something she couldn't recognize in her nephew, alas, Curufinwë was still simply Curufinwë.
She saw him flinch when he realized who was standing  at his door, however he quickly recovered, perhaps unwilling to let his pride be wounded by shame.
"Aunt."
Ëarwen let out a small, mirthless, laugh.
"Is it aunt now," she made her way into the house, there wasn't much to see it was entirely blank, as unimpressive as Curufinwë "I see."
"One could have hardly called us family before" Curufin held his head high, an inkling of what would lead the queen of the Noldor to his door.
"And whose fault was that"
Curufin's breath hitched, his suspicions confirmed, it was a confrontation he'd been waiting for many years and he wouldn't back down now.
"I see Felagund croaked"
"And still you mock him?" Ëarwen glared, her dress swishing behind as she turned to stare at him.
Curufin shrugged "I'm sure my cousin has painted his pretty picture, there's nothing more to add than our mutual disdain now."
"You kept his son from him," Ëarwen gasped, hoping for a glimpse of feeling under the stone he seemed to be made of but Curufin merely stared at her, just another statue in his mother's garden.
"I'm sure he'll recover once the vanya gives him more blond brats than he can count," Curufin moved to the door and held it for her "Now, if all you came here for is to insult me, you should go or I will remove you."
Ëarwen eyes widened "The vanya?" then she grinned and in absolute glee she said "You must mean Amarië, how must it burn you," she cackled "the son of the great Fëanàro replaced by a simple vanyarin girl."
A crack, that was all she needed.
"After everything you've done, you couldn't break him and that bothers you doesn't it? Ingoldo will go on, without you," she told him, watching as he gulped and trembled "And when he'll smile, happy with his family, you will still be here, tasting the same venom you hoped to poison him, alone for the rest of your days"
"Leave."
She wasn't scared by that cracking voice.
"Because do you know what, Curufinwë? You have burned everything you've touched, destroyed every chance you had, oh, I know that," she got closer to him, feeling as he tried to hold back the tears "Telperinquar renounced you, Ingoldo has found better and you'll be forever stuck in this house, with only your resentment and jealousy as dear companions in your miserable life, nothing but a cruel memory in the people that left you behind."
"You are vile, Curufinwë, and you will rot inside and out."
"There is no insult left to throw at my feet, leave." Curufin steeled his resolve, refusing to cry in front of Ëarwen, and before she might've believed her speech had no effect but she'd glimpsed what laid behind the statue. He had gotten her message.
When the door slammed behind her, Ëarwen smiled.

Theme songs for the Silmarillion (part 1 of my Tolkien theme songs)
Sailboat of mine, Eurielle and Mario Grigorov: this song fits perfectly Eärendil and his relationship with Elwing too, especially their fate. The dreamy, almost otherworldly melody and voice are also very like I imagine Elvish music
Hotel California, Eagles: The lyrics and slightly unsettling tune give me a major Nan Elmoth (and Eöl) vibe
Aredhel: I do it reverse fo this character but I have two songs for Aredhel. First is Touch the Sky, from Pixar’s Brave, for her wild spirit and will to roam the world. The second song is I want to Break Free by Queen, from the moment she is captured by Eöl to her death; always trying to escape him but ultimately failing
Friends will be Friends, Queen: for Nerdanel, Anairë and Ëarwen, the three wives left behind and whom I headcanon to be friends and support each other after the Darkening and loss of their families
Ave Maria, Franz Schubert: I headcanon Findis as very pious and retired from society and I can imagine her sing this prayer, full of hope and faith
Back on the Throne, Firewind: the lyrics fit really well Morgoth, and the War of the Jewels seen from his side in general. It’s all about burning the world down and spreading darkness to be the one in power
Savage Daughter, Sarah Hester Ross: Lúthien. This song is Lúthien and Lúthien is this song.
Requiem - Lacrimosa, W.A. Mozart: This piece is for Maglor, and it makes me feel things. Many things
Princes of the Universe, Queen: I asked my sister for a song that would fit a character who is heroic and gay, without any context, and she proposed this one. I listened to it and it has so much Fingon/Maedhros vibes I can’t even put them into words. Just go listen to the song.
Live and die by the Sword, Firewind: The title turned out to be a rather dark joke, but this is the theme song for Túrin. Like, the lyrics seem written for him.
Wars of Ages, Firewind: I realised that I chose quite a few songs by Firewind when I don’t listen to them… but epic metal provides good theme songs for the Silm so here is the one for Fëanor. It’s a pretty intense and dark song but I think it really suits him, and it strongly evokes me of Alqualondë and Losgar in particular
I will survive, Gloria Gaynor: I can see this song either for Amarië, addressed to Finrod, or Andreth and Aegnor. Either ways, it’s for a lover left behind who has to rebuild her life after a heartbreak
Erlkönig, Franz Schubert: The lyrics of this song makes me think a lot of Eluréd and Elurín. It’s about a child scared by a dark creature in the woods ( the Erlkönig) and who ultimately dies when there was hope to escape it. It’s eerie, it’s sad, it’s perfect for these fated twins…
Come Little Children, from Hocus Pocus (cover by Erutan): This is a song that becomes more and more creepy and unsettling each time you listen to it and, in a twisted way, I think it fits the relationship between Maglor, Elrond and Elros after the third Kinslaying… it’s a very dark view of them though. It would also work very well for Eluréd and Elurín
Sin, Lia Marie Johnson: what else than a song about falling in love a second time for Finwë? I stumbled upon this song by complete chance and I had to add it to this post because it fits too perfectly.
Rise from the Ashes, Firewind: And this last song is not for a person but a place/event: the Helcaraxë. I can picture so well the host marching on the Ice and singing this as a marching song, grim, determined and angry.
And here is the playlist I made just for you!

F.A.T.E. UPDATE [LEGOLAS/OC]
Chapter 23 - The Sound of Souls is now posted!
AO3 Link
Wattpad Link
Tumblr media
I have finally gotten another chapter of this posted! AND HOLY SHIT— I like kinda love this chapter! It does get a little bit spicy so uh yeah, you are warned. But there are also some hilarious moments in there. Also you may cry. heh. oops.
Preview:
The three elves, Belanor, Beyla, and Rowan, stood outside Legolas' door as the early rays of the sun began to leak in through the vast windows and stretched upon the stone flooring. It crept up the walls and onto their skin, spreading warmth across their anxiety-ridden bones. It was a welcomed feeling considering the events of last night.

SO tumblr deleted the Ask/Draft, but here you go anon! Hope you see this someday...
I am assuming this is for tolkien, because that IS most of my blog.
1. the character everyone gets wrong
Feänor is an easy one, so we're gonna go with Nolofinwë. 1) Fingolfin translates to Finwënolofinwë. Not addressed in the published Silmarillion, the Shibboleth of Feänor adds great context and character depth. 2) "High princes were Fëanor and Fingolfin, the elder sons of Finwë, honoured by all in Aman; but now they grew proud and jealous each of his rights and his possessions." THEY grew proud and jealous of EACH of his rights!!
Whatever his motivations are, (he thought he was a better choice, he wanted to prove to finwe he was better than feänor, whatever) nolo WANTED that crown, and he wanted it LOUDLY.
ALSO i was going to put this under 10, but figured it fit here better. This is a concept I think lots of people get wrong!
Arda Marred and Arda Healed.
it is NOT post Final Battle Arda un-marred, it doesnt *magically* go away! its Arda HEALED, ok? Arda un-marred is pre-Morgoth singing. Arda Healed is Arda *healed.* listen, I love those "what if post Final Battle, Arda Un-marred deletes people who are considered 'marred'" too, but some people consider Arda Un-Marred to Be Canon, and I'm here to tell you that's incorrect. I know in 10, I'm like "everyone's canon is valid" but a) that was written before this and b) you asked me what character concept i think people get wrong and this is it!!
3. screenshot or description of the worst take you've seen on tumblr
Tumblr media
this was the only one I have saved, and yeah, I mention this a lot LOL
I had to track this one down and it is such a bad faith take:
Tumblr media
and ops clarification which makes it worse, somehow
Tumblr media
and Dior is a Nepo Baby. exactly as it sounds. Dior is a nepo baby because he got the throne when he was like 30 lol
10) worst part of fanon
I saw this one and said "we really are choosing violence" LOL a few things! The inability to see Grey. Elwing is either good or bad. the Valar are either good or evil. ut like, No one is all one or the other. This is also why people saying Nolofinwe was humble and didn't really want the crown bothers me lol like you can like a flawed character. Also, that's why I like the silmarillion; someone is good and righteous from one perspective, but from the other is a total ass. Thingol is a good king...but he not a good ally. [[[]]]. Like, theyre likable for their flaws, and seems lots of folks are like "i like character Y, so they're actually good. but I don't like character A, so they are actually a huge dick." ... which i HATE. especially when they use this to bash another character or make an...not inaccurate comparison, I'm not sure what the word I'm thinking of is, but let's say I've read enough fics where feanor is treated worse than morgoth because they didn't like feanor but liked morgoth
ALSO the attitude "my canon or you get cannoned, and by that I mean a canon ball to the face." Like, don't get me wrong, I think debates about canon are fun! but there is no One True Canon (OTC). The only ones I will agree with as Canon are the published novels and even they can contradict each other. Now that I have my circle of tumblrinas i dont see this as often, but I have seen quite a bit of "[opinion] is canon" but then get aggressive when people would say "no thats your headcanon..." or would ask for a source.
ALSO ALSO the "a TRUE tolkien scholar can back up their headcanon with at LEAST 54 references from HoME and a citation from Letter.s" WHAT the hell is that? Sometimes I just wanna give Green Elves lore, ok? Or I think Aredhel is Aro but not Ace and her favorite color is yellow, actually. I don't NEED a citation. *I* LIKE reading the Lore and making HCs according to that, but no one NEEDS it. And like I said, I think Lore Debates can be fun! Debating what HCs are "true," or which version of Canon is "true" can be fun! (fun fact felixwhetsel and I have a theory that everyones version is correct, because if the LOTR and Hobbit and Silm are all copies of the originals, passed down, things are bound be be changed by time, culture, and language!)
I should clarify that debates are fun, if everyones having fun. If not, then it's just mean. I'm sure I've been guilty of that, and I'm Sorry if we had a debate and I came across as a total Bitch.
19) you're mad/ashamed/horrified you actually kind of like...
This is the question that I was stuck on for a WHILE. I try not to be horrified/ashamed of things I like and if it makes me mad, I just don't like it.
So I decided to ask it differently. first I asked, "is there anything I'm quiet about liking because other people will judge me?" and the answer is "yes, but i'm not worried about people judging me." (if you were wondering, the answers are "OC centric fics" and "I think Eöl could be an interesting character") so then I asked: "is there anything I'm like "I can't believe I like that!""
The answer is yes, but it does not make me feel mad, horrified, or ashamed, it makes me feel sad
It's the Orc Bank. I headcanon the Orc Bank. There's this one post that sums it up really well, but I can't find it, so I'll try to sum it up. The theory is that only Eru can create souls. Morgoth can only corrupt them. Given that Orcs exist well into the Third Age, there's a couple options.
1. Modern Orcs have no souls (doubtful)
2. Eru creates Orc souls (also doubtful)
3. Maia have the power to corrupt souls (more believable, but logistically how would that work? Sauron tortures *every* orc? When does an Orc stop being an Orc then?)
4. The Orc souls are Recycled into the Orc Bank.
It's exactly as it sounds. The souls corrupted by Morgoth are re-used throughout the Millenia. There is No End to their suffering. It makes me SAD every time I think about it. That post came across my dash and I went "Holy Shit. It makes so much SENSE. But it's TOO SAD to reblog." which is why I can't find it lol Just about every canon compliant fic i write that has all my lore compliant HCs is AU to me because i'm like "Yes, I HC the Orc Bank, but it's TOO SAD. thats is it's OWN fuckin universe"
