IT’S NOT OVER, RIGHT?
a logan sargeant angst to fluff scenario🧡
Tumblr media Tumblr media
scenario: this season’s been hard on him, and on your relationship. after a date night gone awfully wrong, one question hangs in the air: is it the end ?
warning: cursing
pai’s words: broke my own heart wtf. I NEED him to stay in formula one, he deserves a second chance, he deserves to show everyone how he can improve. he has potential and we all know it, he deserves tk be able to prove it.
The ride back is eerily quiet, only the rhythmic tapping of the rain echoing in the car. His grip on the steering wheel is strong, leaving his knuckles white, while yours are fidgeting with your pants as you try to occupy your mind. The weather is terrible outside, wind mercilessly hitting the vehicle, cold seeping inside even when the heating is blaring. It’s chilling but not as much as the silence between the two of you, two hearts that used to be one, drifting apart amidst the storm.
The apartment is growing closer now, although you doubt you can call it “home”, not anymore. It’s merely a place you share, a memory, now tainted by his absence and your everlasting hope, starting to fade away like the rain outside. You know that for you two, no rainbow will come. The sound of the engine that was filling the void is now cut, leaving the interior uncomfortably muted, more than it ever was.
You open the door, contrasting how he used to open the door for you at any given occasion, always your prince in shining armor. It’s all rusty now, broken and beaten and not able to protect you, not even able to protect himself. He’s a king and his kingdom is crumbling down, weighing on his shoulders and aching his soul, scarring him down to his very bones. You can only watch him fall under the pressure, knowing full well that words can only do so much, having learned by experience. You’ve tried, again and again, Oscar tried, Liam tried, everyone tried. Everyone except the ones causing his pain, the ones burying him under piles and piles of stress, piles of unrealistic goals and results, piles of offhandedly remarks about his future.
The place is warm, warmer than the car was, warm enough to ease some of your tension and some of his, too. You need to talk, to get to the bottom of this, to fight for this relationship, but you’re so tired of doing all the fighting. He has his own battles of course, but this one is not yours only, and you can’t hold the ship together by yourself, you need him. Of course, you did talk about it, you always do, it always ends up the same way. It’s breaking you two apart, it’s breaking him even more than the rest.
“Logan..”
He freezes, not ready for another fight, another sleepless night alone in the other room, another tear in his heart. He can’t do this anymore, his fight gone with his future in formula one, at least that’s what everyone is thinking, even his team. He still hums, turning to you, because despite it all, you’re his only hope, his only anchor.
“I love you.”
Your voice is soft, timid, scared. He loves you dearly, loves you more than anything he knows and will ever know, you’re well aware of that.
“I love you, too.”
It’s all unspoken words now, eyes speaking because your voice can’t. You need to go through this, you promised each other the highs and the lows, no matter how low. You believe in him, you believe in the two of you and your life together.
“I’ll fight for us, I’ll fight for you, too, Logan. I’ll make it work I promise.”
“It’s not fair on you, it’s a two-people kind of thing.”
You approaches him carefully, your hands reaching out for his. It’s not fair, no, but what’s he’s going though is not fair even, and you can’t do much about it except supporting him in the only ways you know.
“I know, but you have your own battles right now. I’ll fight alone for now, I’ll hold us together until you’re ready to join in. I don’t care how much time it’s going to take, I’m doing this for us.”
He takes your hands in his, no longer white with pressure, now soft and warming. He brings you into him slowly, unsure of the boundaries you haven’t yet fixed.
“I’ll forever be grateful for you, my love. I promise you I’ll do my best to help you, I want this to work. I can’t lose you, too, I’m already losing everything.”
Your head finds its spot on his shoulder, finally at home.
“You’re not losing, not me, not your job, not anything. Fight your battles, I’ll fight ours.”

The argument/make-up in 2x04 is really one of my favourite Tarlos stories because I just love when conflict in fiction is the direct result of two people’s individual traumas bumping up against each other, rather than someone being a villain.
Both of them in this episode are coming from a place of having a large trauma in their past that the other doesn’t know all the details of. Carlos hasn’t told TK anything, at this point, about how his coming out went and how much pain he is in every single day because he feels like his parents don’t fully accept him being gay. He avoids the topic of his parents at Owen’s party when TK brings it up because he’s in a honeymoon phase with TK and he’s never had that before with anyone. He believes – like he says at the end when they make up – that he might never be able to have a real relationship. And he does likely know that at some point they’ll have to discuss his parents but he has never been as happy with anyone as he is with TK (insert season four context of he felt broken until the day they met) and he isn’t ready just yet for the dreamy bubble they’re in to be burst by reality.
So he deflects, in what will become a signature personality trait of Carlos’s – chronic avoidance and making jokes to get out of conversations he isn't ready to have. And then by accident they run into Gabriel and Andrea, and Carlos, still not ready to do this, panics and introduces TK as his friend. He knows he shouldn’t have done that, but trauma, so he acts like he doesn’t understand why TK is upset and he makes a joke out of it. He’s been anxious this whole time about how TK, who is so out and loud and proud, is going to react when he finds out Carlos is still half in the closet, and this is the very reaction he was so afraid of and why he avoided it for so long.
None of it is done with malintent, it’s all self-preservation and learned coping mechanisms from things in his past that have left such deep scars, but TK doesn’t know that, so it hurts him anyway.
TK, meanwhile, is still pretty fresh off of getting his heart broken so badly that he tried to kill himself. He went to Austin in a truly horrendous state of pain and trauma and heartache. He wasn’t planning on meeting his soulmate so soon, he wasn’t ready to meet his soulmate because of how much his heart was still in tatters, which is why we get him being so wishy-washy in season one. By early season two he’s also very much in that honeymoon phase, but that doesn’t mean his wounds are fully healed yet. He asks Carlos about his parents, it feels implied in the party scene that it isn’t the first time he’s asking about them. He’s given Carlos the opportunity to have the conversation that they need to have, but Carlos has changed the subject.
Then they run into them. TK is so happy to meet them, and then so instantly crushed when Carlos introduces him as a friend. He’s upset all the way home, and Carlos – for reasons TK doesn’t understand yet – is acting like it’s not a big deal. TK storms out because that’s how he copes with things at this stage in his emotional development, and leaves some hurtful words for Carlos as a parting gift. Not a mature way to handle things, but in a later scene with Owen and Gwyn it’s revealed how hurt TK really is. “I wanted him to tell them who I was and what I mean to him,” TK says, all dejected. “Maybe he did. Maybe we are just friends.” Because Alex also told TK "I love you", and then cheated on him. TK’s lingering Alex trauma bubbles back up; fuck not again, not another man who says ‘I love you’ to my face but then hides me and doesn’t really want forever with me, even though that isn’t really what’s happening with Carlos.
If it wasn’t for Alex, TK probably wouldn’t have been half as upset by any of this and would have been more receptive to hearing an explanation, but Carlos doesn’t know that, so it hurts him anyway.
It’s just such good conflict. They’re both right, and they’re both wrong. They’re both operating from places of extreme hurt that isn’t the other person’s fault, and they’re both operating from places of not understanding the extent of what the other is going through. And in the scene where they make up you can see how much love there is and how much they both really want to understand the other better. It’s such a beautiful way to love someone, to say to each other “let me meet you where you are and love you the way you need to be loved, even if it’s different from how I need to be loved.”

tarlos fics by chaotictarlos
ship: Tarlos | fandom: 911 Lone Star | author: chaotictarlos | read on ao3
Tumblr media
I know a lot of people are doing a rewatch soon so I thought I'd make a masterlist of my fics by season. These are only fics that go with episodes. If you want to read my other Tarlos fics you can check out my ao3: happygowriting
Season 1
the night we met || TK has finally said yes to being his boyfriend, to trying out the whole relationship thing ago. However, his happiness is short lived when he gets news about someone from his past.
Season 2
Mine || TK flirts with a bartender and Carlos takes him home to show him who’s boss.
Unprofessional || The morning before TK became Carlos’ “friend from work”.
Season 3
I'll be missing you || It’s been months since they’ve seen each other but the holidays have TK feeling lonely and needing Carlos. Even as he tries not to, he craves his touch and company.
back to you || 107 days since he had felt Carlos’s arms wrapped around him and it killed him every day he went without it. He missed the smell of Carlos’ cologne and how it always lingered after they hugged. He missed the feeling of Carlos kissing him awake, the way “good morning” always sounded extra special when it was coming from a sleep Carlos. He missed the way Carlos would make him feel safe and secure after a bad call. The way Carlos would look at him, soft eyes seeing right through him. But most of all he missed how he felt when he was with Carlos and how the world was made of colors again. Because without Carlos everything was gray and TK was just barely hanging on.
the one I want || TK gets Carlos to take his shirt off.
be okay || Carlos hears that there was a shooting with the 126 involved but doesn’t know TK’s okay
down to clown || TK makes it up to Carlos for bringing home a lizard.
A thousand times yes || TK and Carlos celebrate their engagement.
You took the best of my heart and left the rest in pieces || An exploration of emotions. The Breakup Era from Carlos' POV
Season 4
where do we go from here? - TK POV Coda || TK finds out Carlos' secret and they talk about it
how did we (i) get here? - Carlos Begins || A look at Carlos, from when he was younger to present. Or, in which I meant to write a Carlos POV Coda and wrote a Carlos begins and so much more.
And in your hands, is all of me - the parts I never let you have - Carlos POV Coda || Carlos has a secret he needs to tell TK, and it's killing him to get it out. Sequel to how did we (i) get here? Carlos POV coda to 4 x 01
All Night Long || TK has some feelings about seeing Carlos in plaid.
Waiting up for you || After the 126 gang goes home, TK waits up for Carlos who never comes home.
do you still want me like i want you? || TK can't get Carlos words out of his head. He can't help but feel maybe this is all a mistake and that Carlos is regretting saying yes to him.
"It's yours" || “TK,” he says softly. The two syllables of his name falling from Carlos’ lips is enough to get TK to move his feet and push into the room. Carlos reaches out and TK immediately grabs onto his hand, clinging to it desperately. When he feels Carlos’ warm skin under his, he lets out a sigh, his body relaxing.
Let me be your shoulder || Carlos struggles to let TK help.
beneath your hands, i come apart || TK gets his dessert and shows Carlos how much he loves him.
in the quiet with you || “We had the craziest call tonight,” TK says as he sets the table for dinner, freshly clean from his shower. “What was it about?” Carlos asks where he’s finishing up at the stove, dinner almost ready. “This man came in with his wife on a refrigerator dolly, hanging upside down, claiming that if she’s not upside down then she dies.” TK chuckles slightly, still amazed at the memory, setting out the various sauces and toppings for the tacos that Carlos has made.
you're all i need || TK and Carlos finally get a night to themselves to reconnect and relax after some hectic wedding planning.
these moments with you || A soft moment between TK and Carlos
off duty || Carlos is at home when he hears about an ambulance exploding.
after gala fun || Carlos and TK have some fun after the gala
Dreamy Officer Reyes and his Nincompoop || Carlos and TK have some roleplay fun.
A future without you is no future at all || Carlos and TK talk again later that night about kids and Carlos tells TK more about the fears that he has.
Lost in You || TK comes home making wife jokes and Carlos reminds him who he belongs to.
Pudding Punishment || Carlos faces some fun consequences to stealing the pudding.
after work conversations || Carlos ices TK's face while they talk about their day.
in sickness and in health || All Carlos has ever wanted is to love TK and live a life by his side, now that's threatened by yet another thing that he can't control.
Words left unsaid || Carlos deals with his grief after his father's funeral
Vacation Eyes || TK and Carlos start their honeymoon.
The Loft || TK and Carlos decide that they're going to stay home for their honeymoon instead of going someplace else.

Buck & Eddie: They don’t suck at dating when they date each other
Tumblr media
I wrote a 6x18 “Pay it Forward” Coda fanfic (linked here) based on the comment Buck made to Eddie while they were in the fire engine in 6x17 “Love is in the Air” regarding Eddie sucking at dating and I decided to expound on it in a blog post.
Tumblr media
The truth is neither of them suck at dating when they date each other and that may have been the point the show was attempting to convey to the audience when Buck told Eddie, “So that’s what it is... you suck at it” followed by Chimney agreeing with him.  Did most of the GA pick up on it?  Probably not but the truth is both of them suck at dating but only when they try to date other people.
Eddie
In CANON Eddie’s only dated two women, well he was married to SD and he dated AF but that’s not the point. The audience learned in 6x17 Eddie met SD when he was in the 8th grade, they lost touch but they reconnected when they were in the 12th grade and after he got her pregnant (either sometime right before their high school graduation or shortly after) they got married and started an instant family.  Therefore, it’s safe to say if they did date it wasn’t anything like the type of dates he would have gone on as an adult because they were teenagers when they became spouses and parents.
When he dated AF, they had two actual dates, i.e., the breakfast date in 4x6 “Jinx” and their creepy math date in 4x8 “Breaking Point”. They weren’t shown going on any other dates in CANON because their trip to the suit store and the ambulance ride to the hospital in 5x1 “Panic” don’t count as dates.
Tumblr media
Therefore, even though Eddie’s a bit inexperienced, he DID NOT SUCK at dating when he took Buck to play poker in 6x13 “Mixed Feelings” and he didn’t have any performance anxiety issues while they were together.
Buck
Even though Buck has dated more women than Eddie, based on his CANON dates, it appears he sucks at dating too.  In season 1, every time he took AC on a date it ended in disaster.  When they went to a nice restaurant for Valentine’s Day she ended up having to give him a tracheotomy because he choked on a piece of bread.  He also tried to take her on a hot air balloon ride but they didn’t get to do it because she had to leave to deal with her mother.
The hookups he had with TK in 2x8 “Buck Actually” don’t count as dates because they didn’t go anywhere.  He went to the bar to meet Chimney and TK bought him a drink before they ended up in the restroom together.  Also, them almost hooking up in the news van was not a date.  He met AM for coffee at the end of 2x8 after she asked him out but all they were shown doing was talking while they sat in a coffee shop or whatever.
He met Veronica for a dinner date in 4x7 “There Goes the Neighborhood” but it ended up being a disaster.  When he invited TK to join him, Veronica and Albert for dinner in 4x8, it wasn’t a date because he invited her there so he wouldn’t have to face Veronica and Albert alone.  Once he officially started dating TK, all they did was spend a whole year during season 5 entombed in his loft and they weren’t shown going out to any restaurants or to the movies.  His trip to Oklahoma to surprise her doesn’t count because visiting a prison isn’t a date, right?  The one time they had a “successful” lunch date was in 4x11 “First Responders” but they were just friends and he invitied her there to ask her for a favor.
Finally, him and ND met for coffee in 6x15 “Death and Taxes” but they weren’t dating   She asked him out so she could learn more about the lightning strike and his death.  He called her and they went on two dates in 6x17 but they both got interrupted when LD showed up at the bar and TK and Kameron interrupted their second date while they were at his loft.
Tumblr media
But when Buck went to play poker with Eddie in 6x13, he had a great time and there weren’t any mishaps. Their date didn’t suck because as usual they couldn’t keep their eyes off each other and even though they were playing a low stakes game of poker, they were practically pressed against each other while the other players sat with at least one chair’s length of space between them.
Tumblr media
The point of this post is Buck and Eddie only suck at dating when they try to date other people but they don’t suck at it when they date each other.
In CANON, their poker date was the best date either of them ever had.

911 Lone Star Rewatch: 1x01
I was finally able to do my rewatch last night! I actually recorded a voice memo of myself watching so I could remember my thoughts. I briefly considered just posting the recording, but there was some annoying background noise from my radiator. But maybe I'll post recordings for later episodes.
But let me try to get my thoughts in order (I have a lot of them):
Can you believe that the thing that starts it all--that kills Judd's entire crew--is a burrito?? Insane.
They were trying reallll hard in the pilot to make Sierra look older. The way they styled her and did her hair, clearly trying to make her and Judd look like they are the same age. I'm glad they decided to just let her be younger than him. Because she was younger than Ronen in the pilot and they have her dressed like she's 45.
TK IN FIREFIGHTER GEAR
I love that they straight-bated the audience by making TK's boyfriend have a gender neutral name. I remember my dad watching this episode and he fully assumed Alex was a woman until he showed up at the restaurant.
Also was very struck by how great of a character Owen is. I know that he annoys a lot of people and I fully understand why--especially in season 2--but I genuinely enjoy him.
Real talk, what do we think TK was paying for rent in his New York apartment. They say "west 7th" in the show. I think it's Brooklyn. And it's a walk up... it looks pretty spacious.
On this rewatch I really absorbed Owen saying to TK that he promised this would never happen again. Is he referring to using in general? Or has TK ODed before?
I wonder if we are ever going to circle back to the fact that TK tried to commit suicide. Because they do talk about him overdosing, and using, and generally doing reckless things with drugs, but the suicidal aspect of it is never really discussed.
Mateo in the pilot, scrubbing down the car door handle. His journey from academy "frequent flyer" to kick-ass firefighter is so great.
I find it interesting that Owen didn't focus on hiring people from Texas...
PAUL. Why is Brian Michael Smith so cool???? His entire opening scene with the arsonist in Chicago is perfection. *chef's kiss*
Judson Ryder!!! I really thought I wasn't going to like him the first time I watched this scene of him and Owen. Especially with that "we are the world" line he has, which immediately paints him as a bigot. But of course, we get to see what is actually going on with him and how much pain he's in and how he feels like someone is coming in and trampling on the memory of people he lost.
No matter how many times I rewatch season 1, I always forget that Michelle is in it until she shows up. And even though I love Iris, I have no investment in Michelle's missing sister storyline. In my recording it's literally me saying "Oh yeah, Michelle" in the most unenthusiastic tone. I'm a fan of Liv Tyler, but Michelle was not it. And Tommy fits the vibe of the show so much better.
If I had a nickel for every time Carlos called a woman friend of his that he just arrested, and had in the back of his police vehicle, "chica", I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it is weird that it happened twice.
Side note, I'm surprised that the phrase "nut sack" is allowed on cable television.
Owen, and now Paul, have a better skincare routine than me.
GOD. Seeing TK and Carlos standing next to each other and interacting at the crash scene is crazy. CUZ THEY DON'T EVEN KNOWWWW. But also the premise of that whole emergency was so good. The second baby that they don't know about! The suspense! The drama!
Do we think TK's little speech about how he likes his new AA group and that he's glad to be in Austin... do we think he's lying? Because we know that in episode 3 he talks about everything being gray. So do we think he's just putting on a show for Owen?
I've never noticed that Tim in the background at the honky tonk!! But no Nancy?? Is she not in the pilot at all??
Would love to know more about Owen's second wife.
I love that Owen tells Judd about his cancer diagnosis. Because I think it shows that he recognizes that Judd is a good man even with his outburst in that first scene.
Gonna take my horse to the ol' town road, I'm gonna riiiidde til I can't no more.
Wow, what an episode! 10/10!
If you actually read this whole thing you get a gold star on the good noodle board.

Tech and Hondo Ohnaka ( Part 2 )
Rated: Teen and up (a rare general audiences fic on my part.)
Warning: Violence, death, injury, all comparable to what we see in The Bad Batch, pain mention, broken bones mention, attack by a wild animal, blaster fire.
Fic Summary: Tech is plummeting toward death, yet he is spared, all thanks to a Weequay pirate who was simply in the wrong place at the right time, depending.
Word count: 2.9k
Notes: This is a kind of crack / AU scenario. I like the idea of Hondo being the one to encounter Tech after his fall. The idea was definitely inspired my Phee's line at the end of season 2: "Well, don't go running off with any pirates or smugglers while you're gone,." :) Don't take this too seriously, though at the same time I tried to make it plausible. The main point of this was to have fun with Tech and Hondo ribbing each other in their own way. I love both of these characters, and I am excited to see what you guys think.
Chapter 1 | Read on Ao3
Tumblr media
“Could you keep et down?”
“I have not said anything.”
“You are breathing much tuu loudly.”
“I cannot help it,” Tech argued. It was true, his breathing was labored. Though they had taken their time, the trip was slow-going, and his broken ribs were making it difficult for him to absorb lungfuls of oxygen.
“Perhaps… ef you took dat helmet off,” Hondo suggested, “den et would not be like listening tu an orbak chuffing en my ear.”
“Then I would not be able to see,” Tech reminded him, adjusting the weight of his pack. It felt heavier than normal. He was sure it was because he needed rest though now was an inopportune time.
“And you du see dat overgrown tooka, yes? De big blue one de size of a landspeeder who es currently feasting on de carcass of some nasty, six-legged vermin?”
Tech could not understand why he would ask this question. “I was the one to point it out when I saw it on my thermal readout,” he was quick to answer, the Weequay’s eyes constricting into two tight diagonal lines.
“Den you should know he will be able tu hear you!” Hondo emphasized, the feline in question at once perking up its ears.
Tech already did not appreciate the pirate’s boisterous personality, despite having dealt with so many others like him in the past. The clone’s brow creased beneath his visor as he lowered his voice to a whisper, all too aware of the current situation they had found themselves in. “Then perhaps you should be following your own advice,” Tech shot back evenly.
Hondo grumbled a closed-mouth complaint, turning his head slowly back toward the apex predator, sizing up their options as it was currently blocking their forward path. “We must find a way tu skirt past dis furry monstrosity; he es en our way,” Hondo stated, Tech assuming that had been quite obvious from the start.
“The best course of action may be to wait it out. Once the animal has consumed enough sustenance to—”
Tech paused, jerking back as Hondo rounded to face him. They were stationed on the ground, camouflaged behind a fallen tree trunk and copious amounts of shrubbery and grass. “What is it?” he questioned brusquely.
Evolving under rather merciless conditions, Weequay were adept at many things to ensure survival, one being the ability to detect sounds that were of a suspicious origin (should they quiet down long enough to listen in Hondo’s case). While most of his species communicated silently through the use of pheromones, Hondo preferred spoken language, yet even he knew when it was time to take things a little more seriously; he had not survived this long by being stupid.
“Footsteps,” he muttered, voice deeply resonate. “Et appears we du not have time tu, how you say, ‘wait et out.’”
Tech repositioned himself just enough to glance back over his shoulder, catching the outline of something warm, and alive. Many somethings, as it was another squad of TK troopers hot on their trail.
“They have yet to spot us,” Tech informed him, realizing they were now sandwiched between a deadly carnivore and half a dozen soldiers who were hellbent on finding and most likely killing them, if not something far worse than that; being a prisoner of war was not something Tech was looking forward to, nor was being shredded to bits in the jaws of a ferocious beast.
“Let us make haste! De mining facility es tu de northeast of here—"
“—I do not think we should make any sudden movements. It is best to give the feline a wide berth, as we do not know if—”
“—I du not intend tu die tuday, so unless you wish for me tu leave you behind,”  Hondo gave him a sidelong look, “you will follow closely, hm?”
Tech did not have time to offer anything more in the way of protest, watching as the pirate crept to the edge of their hiding place. Ohnaka stood halfway, keeping low to the ground, advancing in the direction of a more heavily wooded area.
Tech sighed, exasperated by the whole ordeal, and still in quite a lot of pain; it felt as if his entire being had been run over with a HAVw A6 Juggernaut turbo tank, yet he was not a quitter. He would keep pushing forward until his body decided to give out, whenever that might be.
He followed the Weequay’s heat signature; it ran hot in comparison to other species, much like his own, Hondo’s outline burning brightly through the cracks in his head-up display, not to mention his gaudy red coat would easily give him away. Tech wondered why he did not dispose of it if he was so worried about being found. It would be like wearing a large bullseye across your back -  very conspicuous.
For a moment, Tech thought they might be in the clear, both men having made it to the edge of the tree line, the clone unable to help glancing behind himself at intervals. He only realized something was amiss once he had turned back around, hearing the pirate speak, and not to him.
“Uh—hello,” Hondo said dumbly, Tech’s eyes widening at the appearance of a lone TK, his blaster poised and ready to shoot, though for the moment he seemed to be caught off guard just as much as they had been, the trooper not moving a muscle for several precious seconds.
Then, he called for help to his squad mates, or attempted to, via his comm; his transmission was cut short as Tech himself took the soldier out. Hondo watched as his armored form hit the forest floor like a sack of Corellian potatoes with a dull and lifeless thud, the Weequay speaking in low notes with a hint of indifference lacing his voice. “Eh… so much for stealth,” he shrugged.
Tech whisked back around, knowing his comrades would soon be on their way. It did not take long for bolts of plasma to scorch the trunks of trees surrounding them, thankfully these new troopers being unable to aim properly to save their lives.
“Iiiiii am not sure ef we should fight dem,” Hondo interjected between the pew pew sounds of laser fire, Tech having held his ground until this point, both men zigzagging between obstacles to find much needed cover.
“Please, explain what you think we should do,” Tech sardonically retorted, both of his DC-17’s withdrawn from their holsters as he prepared to engage the enemy.
“I tink we should wait for—”
At that very moment, the colossal, azure feline had been roused from its meal, considering these newcomers a threat to its territory and to the kill it had worked so hard to slay. Blaster fire only seemed to irritate it further, as the white-clad soldier’s attention had been diverted from the pursual of their quarry to the idea of staying alive.
“—dat,” Hondo finally finished.
Screams echoed through the forest as teeth and claw bore into plastoid, easily penetrating the TK’s armor as if it was nothing more than flimsiplast. Blood spurted as limbs were shredded and torn apart, the angry beast leaving a trail of viscera in its wake. Tech stood stock-still, riveted by the scene before him. “Fascinating,” he admitted beneath his breath.
“Now we go, ah?” Hondo asked, shooting Tech a quizzical look infused with mild disgust. He was not sure what he found so “fascinating,” and Tech’s only regret was not having his recording device at the ready to immortalize the ferocious, guttural sounds the beast was making as it mowed through nearly a dozen men.
Tech only snapped to attention when Hondo rapped his knuckles on the outside of his helmet. “Wake up en dere!” he growled, at once beginning his journey in the opposite direction, the one that was now a straight shot toward the general area of the lommite mine, Tech surmised, and he was content to follow, as he did not want to be next on the menu should the feline tire of its current entertainment.
“So nice of you tu join m—” Hondo stopped short, another TK Trooper having dropped before them from his hiding spot in the trees, blaster rifle held high and a smug tone permeating his voice as he gave his demands.
“Drop your weapons, and put your hands in the air!”
Both men glanced to one another, this being a rather unfortunate turn of events. Tech obeyed, but Hondo knew better; he had never withdrawn any in the first place. His lip curved just slightly; he could hear a rustling sound coming from a patch of nearby brush.
“My friend, we are de least of your worries,” Hondo relayed dryly. “I would put dat blaster away, ef you value your life, hm?”
Tech’s eyes darted as he registered the thermal readout of the very large feline stalking their way, calculating the odds of their survival mentally, which presently did not appear to be very good.
“Shut your mouth, Quay, and get on the ground!”
“Ef you insist,” Hondo replied, the pirate taking his time in bending first one leg, and then the other, his knees dropping onto the soft dirt below as if kneeling in prayer.
“You too, traitor,” the TK snapped, his blaster aimed loosely at Tech as the clone was forced to abide this man’s orders. He lowered himself beside Hondo, keeping his eyes trained not on the weapon’s barrel, but on the animal that was slowly creeping forward toward the unsuspecting soldier. He thought to warn him, but what would be the point? To face death head-on was not a privilege afforded to all. Sometimes, it was a surprise.
“Hands behind your head,” he barked. His “prisoners” obliged, the TK calling for assitance on his comm. “Found the terrorists a kilometer down from the mine, requesting back up.”
“Terrorists?” Hondo thought, meaning to give the man a piece of his mind. Even so, Hondo was privy to something he was not, keeping his mouth closed - if only just this once - as hypnotizing, unnatural yellow eyes shone like two bright suns just behind the soldier’s helmet. The head of the overgrown took’, not to mention its fangs, were both wider and longer than his head and arms. It was as if he was this man’s big, blue shadow, sooo massive in fact, it captured his attention; the sky had appeared to darken as if anticipating a rainstorm, the trooper looking up.
“Huh?” was all he managed to say, the TK’s head tilting for a better vantage just as the fanged maw of the creature enclosed around his throat. There was a terrible crunching sound as the ginormous cat severed through cartilage and bone as if they were nothing more than twigs, leaving both men to stare on in revulsion and awe as his body fell to the ground at their knees.
Hondo could feel Tech itching to rise and fight. Or. Perhaps to flee. “Du not. Move,” he instructed.
Tech decided to listen. He remained still. He was not sure why he had opted to trust the pirate on this matter, but he knew he would not be able to outrun the beast regardless. In other words, what did he have to lose besides his life? It was a kind of running joke at this point, he mused.
Hondo bothered to follow his own advice this time; he kept calm and motionless, even as the feline raised its eyes to look squarely at them. Blood dripped from its elongated eyeteeth like water drops from a leaky faucet, the formidable lifeform beginning to slowly prowl in their direction.
Tech took a breath to speak. Hondo interrupted him.
“Stand your ground. Du not panic, and du not run. Retreat only when I give de signal.”
Tech wanted to ask what the signal was, or explain that tactics that may work on one member of the Felidae family did not necessarily mean they could be employed against every feline they encountered. Still, Tech did not have experience with this particular species and wished to know more about them; perhaps Hondo had dealt with this kind of predator before. It was a shame that his equipment had been so badly damaged as to cease functioning properly, otherwise he may have been of some use.
A low growl emanated from the beast; Tech centered himself and relaxed. If it was his time to die, so be it, though he had not died yet when he had been almost positive he was going to only hours before.
Hondo lowered his head and stared at the creature’s feet; he made note he was so very fluffy, and if he was not so sure that he would get his face torn clean off for doing so, he may have been tempted to stroke its fur.
The cat bared its fangs; it roared only inches away. The wave of hot, stinky breath that followed did not impress Tech, though the Weequay beside him made a point to wrinkle his ridged nose.
Then, its attention turned solely to Hondo. Its snout was close enough to kiss. Hondo lazily lifted his head, the feline snorting out a blast so powerful, it sent one of Weequay’s braids behind his shoulder.
Hondo spoke; his voice was low and soothing. If he was at all afraid, he did not make it known, Tech observed, though he kept his eyes averted toward the wildcat’s legs. “We can be friends… yes?” he whispered huskily.
The behemoth stuck its nose against the Weequay, inhaling sharply to sniff Hondo as if he was a flower growing in some tranquil meadow, not a pirate in a crimson coat. Then the creature nuzzled his oversized head into the crook of Hondo’s jowls just below his frills, its broad, rough tongue brandishing itself to lick a stripe that would inevitably saturate his entire face.
Hondo laughed, a throaty chuckle indicative of something a little more than amusement. It was as if he knew to expect this all along.
“Dat’s right, what a sweet beast you are,” Ohnaka crooned as if talking to a lover, or a child, the pirate having spent many long hours in the fellowship of creatures both great and small, loving each one individually not for what they could do for him, but because, in most cases, animals were far better company than man.
For one, they did not double-cross him. Usually.
Tech thought the creature was giving Hondo a taste before deciding on whether or not to make him a second course, but to his surprise the feline began to produce a sound that was not unlike a purr from the bowels of its throat, it being somewhat reminiscent of the activation of ion engines set to embark on a journey through time and space.
The muscular mammal nearly knocked Ohnaka backward, so strong was the headbutt it administered against the Weequay’s Desevrar Infantry helmet that Hondo teetered on his knees, but managed to keep his place. Then, he did what he had wanted to do without fear of repercussion, placing one striated hand along the feline’s muzzle in a gentle pat. “Such a good boy,” he offered in the way of praise.
Tech was baffled; this was not something he was accustomed to. He had only witnessed Jedi commune with animals. This had occurred once during his time in the field under the leadership of the Republic, and never quite like this.
The scoundrel stood, and the cat allowed it. Hondo had the audacity to scratch it beneath its chin. “Ah, but you remind me of someone else blue with sharp teeth, hm? All hiss and no hunting us, yes?” he asked, as if the thing could speak its mind, and he would be able to understand its meaning.
The fuzzy leviathan seem to agree, circling the pirate to wrap its tail about his waist before releasing him and nudging Tech against his shoulder. Tech withheld a gasp, his body aching, and while the feline seemed not liable to attack them, he would not bother to stand quite yet.
His pack was most definitely weighing him down, Tech feeling as if one hundred duracrete bricks resided inside. He kept his nearly useless eyes fixated on the dead and drying leaves of the forest floor, Hondo speaking to the clone as if he was much more self-assured.
“Animals, beasts, de wily creatures of de forest, dhey love me,” he boasted. “I treat dem with kindness and respect, and dheyyy du not eat me. Isn’t dat right, blue one?” he inquired to the affectionate feline.
Then, the creature’s ears twitched, and his stark, golden eyes narrowed. Hondo withdrew his hand and cocked his head, turning toward the direction the feline was now focused on and asking it another question, never having received an answer to his first. “What es et, my darling? Du you hear someting?”
The varied shades of blue fur along its back bristled; the differences in its coloration formed alternating stripes like waves in a vast ocean. Tech could not help it— he held his breath. The king of Eriadu’s jungle quickly leapt away to disappear amongst the foliage, the distant sound of men screaming echoing through the otherwise peaceful woods.
“Our cue tu leave, no?”
“Affirmative,” was the only thing Tech could think to say, rising to his feet, albeit with great difficulty. He decided not to question the Weeuquay, or his ability to commune with the native fauna. This man was proving to be odd by all definitions of the word, his prowess for taming wild carnivores only one of his unusual traits, Tech suspected.
Tech’s thoughts were interrupted by an ache in his chest as he had bent to gather his blasters; he could not remember ever feeling so exhausted, nor could he recall a time when he had found it this laborius to breathe. Ambulating slowly forward, Hondo once more took the lead, Tech wondering what Phee might say should she learn that he had coincidentally, “run off with pirates.”

Since we’re all up in the feels today (thank you @queen-saltyfries for this!) then lemme just go off about how TK utterly changes in the space of a handful of episodes, and that is no mean feat.
We meet this kid, seemingly loving life and living the dream. He has this impressive rescue of the winder cleaner from the Chrysler Building, he’s about to propose to Alex (he’s bought a ring! Boy is serious!), he’s got this cute lil’ smile and he’s adorable. He’s nervous but that’s normal, right? He’s taking after his father, making big swings, grand gestures. Go big or go home seems to be the Strand way.
And then he crashes. Big time. RIght in front of us. We get exposition in two scenes showing us that behind this façade we have an addict whose boyfriend is in love with someone else and he had his heart broken to the point of relapse.
It is established for us, right off the bat, that TK Strand is not a hesitant kind of man. He rolls right up to that ledge without a second thought, he’s clearly planned the proposal to make it really special, and when he relapses there’s no hesitation there either. (More on that later.)
But when he goes to Texas with Owen he takes the time to rebuild himself. He isn’t hesitant with Carlos (”I recall the fifteen minutes after we first met.”) and it’s all fun and games - until it’s not. And TK gently shows a piece of the real him in 1x03 when he tells Carlos about his addiction. The 126 don’t even know yet, his brothers and sister in arms, and yet he tells this cop he’s been hooking up with and he’s “not looking for this” with him. Up to that point TK has been going right up to that ledge Carlos and enjoying the thrill of it but he’s been keeping anything real at arm’s length. He did real, it ended in a ring and some pills. But in the moment when Carlos calls him out on “doing something so suicidal” it strikes home. He sees the pattern and he sees that Carlos sees the real him and so he breaks the cycle - something I don’t think Owen has ever managed to do, but that’s another meta.
TK changes on a dime, having established one character he then becomes something else. Something a little less rash, impulsive. He’s still that guy who shoots from the hip - he blows up at Carlos in 2x08 because of his own insecurities (although Carlos isn’t blameless) and he blows up their relationship between seasons 2 and 3 because of his own insecurities (although Carlos again isn’t blameless), but he comes back each time. Right up to the conversations in 3x13 where he stays every time. He doesn’t walk away from the table and he doesn’t cut off the conversation on the couch.
He looks to be better. He fails sometimes, but he tries. He is honest with Carlos in 1x10 that he doesn’t know what he wants instead of stringing him along which would have been the easier option. But he knew Carlos was catching feels, he wasn’t sure about the feels he was catching, and so he took a step back to think about it. This time walking away was a good thing - something he should have done with Alex when he realised he was being so distant. TK is learning when to stand, when to walk, when to talk and when to listen.
Even when he stands on the ledge of a full on relapse in 3x08 we see hestitation. He’s laser focused when he gets to the firehouse: he gets changed, he grabs the pad, and he’s right into the ambulance. Do not pass Go, do not collect $200, do not stop for red lights until he has the vials in his hand. That moment when it becomes real, he hesitates. He’s not pocketing them right away and acting like nothing’s wrong (and he certainly had enough time to do that before Owen found him). I’d like to think that he realises that the impulsive side of him is winning out and that a part of him doesn’t want it to.
In the first half of 1x01 TK seems like the kind of guy who has everything going for him: good at his job, getting to do impressive rescues, a seemingly serious relationship, and it’s all crashed down around him by the halfway point. The TK who dances with Carlos at the end of 1x01 is not the same TK we met in that elevator in the Chrysler building. But he also kinda is. He’s impulsive, but he’s not all in. He cares but he’s cautious. Big gestures in small moments - because you can’t tell me telling Carlos about his relapse isn’t him going “here, this is the heaviest part of me” and Carlos goes “well if you want or need a hand carrying it let me know” like it’s nothing when it’s everything TK has ever wanted.
And in 3x18 he is impulsive again, but it comes from a realisation he had in 3x13. He knows he’s going to marry this man, he wants to marry this man, and he can’t wait any longer to ask the question. He stays when Carlos tries to deflect, assuring that “it’s not drama, it’s love - the kind you can’t get away from”. He’s fearless in a very different kind of way. He’s rescued himself in an impressive way, starting a sobriety journey twice over with love and support. He’s about to propose to this man (they own property together!). He’s not nervous, but why would he be? His heart is on the bed between them, right with Carlos’ in their joined hands, and while it’s thousands of miles - literally and figuratively - from where we met TK in the pilot, it’s also him.
And I’m just in awe of how much he’s changed and how much he hasn’t.

TK stands at the top of the key, ball tucked protectively against his hip, and then he pivots and drops it low on the other side when his defender makes a grab at it.
He takes a quick glance at the scoreboard, finding only ten seconds left on the shot clock. Pearce is out to his right, and Tim beyond him in the corner, but TK sees the way Isiah is creeping out, ready to steal a pass to either of them. Carlos has two defenders on him to his left, but if TK can draw them away, he can kick a pass back out and swing it around to Mateo for a baseline three.
He starts his dribble, knowing Mitchell is expecting him to go left, and he jabs once in that direction before crossing between his legs and sweeping past him to the right. He’s just as strong with either hand.
As expected, the defense swarms him in the lane, but TK’s already thinking a step ahead of them. He comes to a stop, jumping up and passing it back out to Carlos who has a defender back on him immediately, but Mateo is wide open in the corner now and all Carlos has to do is swing it over to him. Except Carlos only glances in his direction for a fraction of a second before looking back to the hoop, jumping up and taking the shot himself. It bounces off the rim, the rebound falling right into the hands of a defender, and then it’s being lobbed down the court for an easy layup.
Judd’s whistle rips through the gym and their scrimmage effectively comes to an end.
“Really, Reyes? We don’t swing the ball for thirty seconds so you can toss up a shot with two guys on you,” TK grits as he jogs to the huddle.
Carlos gives him a sharp glance and then mutters, “If you passed the ball more often, I could take better shots.”
TK’s retort dies on his tongue as Judd starts recapping the practice. He tries to listen in, no doubt Judd will be looking for direct improvements on Monday, but TK is stuck replaying the scrimmage over and over in his head. Carlos’ comment about looking forward to working together seems so naïve now when they clearly don’t have the chemistry to be a good duo.
They’ve been ending practice like this all week. It’s one thing to run drill after drill and hone in on the technical skills, but they need to apply them—as a team—if they’re going to win this season. And Carlos and TK can’t seem to get on the same page.
Basketball is all about finding a rhythm, anticipating each other’s moves and swinging the ball to stay one step ahead of the defense. It’s eyes on every part of the court, looking for a player to get an open shot and a good one at that.
But he and Carlos can’t find that together. If it’s Carlos in the paint with an offensive rebound, he doesn’t see TK unguarded at the top of the key. If TK’s driving into the lane, Carlos isn’t looking for the kick out. If TK’s hoping he cuts in, Carlos sets a screen instead.
They're not compatible and it’s driving both of them to their breaking point. And now they’re snapping at each other, like Carlos did right before Judd called the huddle.
“Alright,” Judd says once he’s done. “Everybody hit the weight room.”
TK clenches his jaw and before he can head off the court, he angles his head towards Carlos, holding his gaze as he coldly says, “I’m not a ball hog.”
Carlos raises a brow. “Didn’t say you were. But just because you’re rusty and have a year of time to make up for, doesn't mean you’re not part of a team,” he says with a heat that TK had secretly been hoping to bring out, but Carlos’ words cause him to rear back.
“I’m not trying to make up for anything,” TK says, taken aback by how hollow his own voice sounds. He made his choices and he has to live with them, but he doesn’t need the reminders of his mistakes from everyone else. “I’m playing the same game as I always have with this team since I started here three years ago.”
Carlos closes his mouth and TK feels a moment of victory. For a second TK thinks he’s going to walk away, but then he takes a breath and says, “I had at least five open looks, but you were more concerned with driving into the paint and tossing up a sloppy shot.”
TK huffs. “I know you were fed the ball constantly in Arizona, but there are other players on this team that can make a basket,” he spits, locking eyes with Carlos. “You’re gonna have to figure out how to get used to not scoring forty points a game.”
He storms away before Carlos can respond, stalking off to the weight room for their scheduled lift. He already knows the agenda for the day so he sticks his AirPods in and drops down onto a bench in the back corner, curling his fingers over the metal bar above him and ignoring the part of him that wonders if Carlos was right.

Story Idea: Taylor Swift x Travis Kelce Esque Love Story, but with a Twist.
Because: The Philidelphia Eagles Christmas Album, and Travis and Jason Kelce just put out a Christmas song.
Also that Troy Bolton as TS and TK's kid meme that's started making the round. Is it weird if I kinda wanna have the ship name be TT? Like I know a TT and she's so sweet and I feel like it fits perfectly?
Ya'll might hate me for this. Don't worry, I kinda hate me too.
So: our Travis and Jason characters and the rest of the Philly Specials group are recording in New York. During a break, the Travis character runs into our Taylor Swift character, and they chat for a few minutes and exchange social blades. They return to their respective recording sessions.
A couple weeks or a month goes by, and the Taylor Swift character receives, like, a reel from the Travis character's insta. She replies with an emoji, he says he's sorry, that he didn't mean to send that. They begin to chat. She says she'll be touring near his hometown; he says he's planning on attending with some of his teammates. Long story short, they meet up after the concert and go on a cute little covert date.
Going into the regular season, Travis' character reveals on his and Jason' characters podcast that he did have an "interaction" with the Taylor character. After they're off the mic Jasons character tries to help the Travis character invite the Taylor character to a game. He eventually does.
He's at the game (couple games into the season) and sees the Taylor Swift character on the jumbotron, next to his mother. That's how he learns she's there. This kicks off a whole relationship thing where they're finally official (going on another covert date after the game) but they rarely see each other as she's touring and he's playing all across the country and world. Eventually they'll meet up in Germany for a game (I know this didn't really happen; I'm taking some *liberties* for the story's sake) that she watches and they again, go out after. She then invites him to another concert, which he accepts. He gets to meet her father and then goes backstage.
Quick break before we go completely off the rails: I want there to be a prevailing theme of the Travis' character essentially being aware of his own mortality, especially as it's his brother's final season (most likely). He realizes he's lucky to have gotten this far (the average NFL career is like 2.5 years I've heard), but he doesn't really have anything else he could do after he's done playing. On the other hand, the Taylor Swift character has a future spread wide in front of her, but she's been burned thousands of times by media, executives, boyfriends... but there's a part of her that wants to share that with someone, and she's not sure how.
Back to the story. On a date after the concert where the Travis character meets the Taylor characters dad (essentially the Argentina concert from a couple days ago IRL time), they talk a little about their lives. How she was an up-and-coming country star at 15 and he was destined for the NFL by age 19. He talks about how his parents' marriage was bad, but they stayed under the same roof to raise him and his brother and got an amicable divorce (I will admit, I know nothing of Taylor Swifts parental situation, so I'll leave that right here for now). By the end of the night, they end up together in a hotel room (with two beds) and she starts writing on the pad of paper provided by the hotel. He falls asleep watching tv, and she reflects a bit while he's out.
The next morning, they talk a little, but he's gotta head out. Once he's gone, she sits down to write, and we start to see a song forming: something like A yard away and just out of reach. Sparks flyin' but we'll fly to far east It's poppy, it's cute. But it's a love song.
We then jump to the end(ish) of November. The Travis character is in a game and gets bodied, going unconscious on the field. He wakes up in the hospital but is otherwise okay. Just a major concussion. His mom is there and calls the Taylor Swift character, who asks if he's alright. It's pretty late/early where she's at, and she says she'll be back as soon as she can. We find out he'll be out for at least a week, if not two. The next game is in New York, so the Travis character travels with the team, spending a night with his brother in Philadelphia where they talk about his and the Taylor character's relationship. The Jason character gives him some advice, but we don't know how it lands right yet. Also, some cute interactions between the Travis character and his nieces, including the baby. They're trying to put the baby to sleep when the Jason and Travis characters have their talk.
The day before the game he gets a call from the Taylor character, asking him to come to a place. He arrives and it's a recording studio. He goes inside and she asks if he'd do some demo backing vocals for her on a couple tracks. He agrees and they have a song writing/singing session. They talk a little bit, and it's obvious he's a bit of a fish out of water but he starts to settle in. When the Taylor character shows him a song she wrote, he helps correct mistakes made in football terminology, and they get into an argument if they really have to be specific about the type of foul, and he points out that she mentioned this, this and this... but its playful. At the end of the session they nearly kiss, but instead walk out, bundled up, and decide to head to a cafe or coffee shop.
The next week is the Christmas week game. We essentially just get a cute little Skype/Facetime gift exchange where they each sent each other a gift and they open it. He got her a Chiefs/team (if it gets changed for the story) letterman's jacket with her name and 13 on the back. She gives him a cardigan that matches the next Taylor's Version Album to be released, essentially revealing it to him. It's cute, they share a moment (he's a little oblivious) and they talk. The end of the season is around the corner, and the Grammy's aren't too far out.
The final game of the regular season rolls around, and despite everything, the Taylor character can't make it. The Travis character is a little sad, but deals. His team makes it to the post season and gets the first-round bye week. So, he decides to go see her internationally again, though his coach isn't as for it this time. He reveals on his podcast that the coach said if he was gone longer than two days, he could risk his spot on the rooster for the first post-season game. In the foreign country, we find out she invites him to the Grammy's, but they would be the same night as his divisional round game.
They play and barely win their game, moving onto the Conference (AFC/NFC) championship round. We find out they had been texting back and forth, wishing each other luck, and both actually watched the others event at different points during the night. This does bring up a bit of a speed bump as now she has to go international again, and probably won't make it back if they have the Superbowl, and she's sorry. But he says he understands that sometimes you've gotta miss the big events and he really, really does understand. She promises to watch the games though.
During the AFC championship, Travis character gets hurt again and pulled off into the locker room. While there he gets a call from the Taylor character, and he says he's okay. He eventually goes out to play the rest of the game, but he's hurting. His brother, who's now out of the play offs, warns Travis that these injuries will start adding up soon. Looking ahead he sees there's a concert the day of the Superbowl and expects not to see the Taylor character there. He still wears the cardigan she gave him during the load in, and it gets everyone talking.
The team tries to cheer him up, but really to no avail. But, come Superbowl time, when he walks out, who's there waiting for him but the Taylor Character, in the letterman's jacket he gave her. They kiss and she goes up to the suite with his mom and Jason's character's family.
During the Superbowl there's some jumping between the field, the side lines, and the suite. Coach tells everyone that Travis characters girlfriend is in the house so they'd better win, and the QB (whose married with a couple kids and significantly younger than Travis) talks with him a bit on the side line. In the suite we learn that due to the time difference, the Taylor Swift character was able to hop a plane immediatly after the concert, get to the Super Bowl, and the next morning she'll fly to the next destination on her tour. She mentions how she'll invite him with her. Mom says he'd go if they loose, but he'd be obligated to stay if they won, for like a victory parade and whatever else.
Near the end the Travis character gets knocked down and comes off the field for a couple plays, but they end up on fourth down and have to kick a field goal, trying the team they're playing. Luckily there's an interception and the offense gets the ball back, but they wanna shut it down. So, in a trick play the Travis character gets the pass and scores the game winning touchdown with just over a minute left. Defense comes out and shuts them down and the crowd goes crazy. The Taylor character comes down with the rest of the Travis characters family and they celebrate on field with a nice little kiss. They celebrate with the rest of the team, then after he celebrates with the Jason character, Jason tells him to talk to his girlfriend.
The Taylor character invites the Travis character with her on the next leg of the tour, which is two days (Monday, Tuesday) in another country. After thinking a moment (and knowing the coach would get mad) he agrees, so long as they make it back in time for the victory parade. She tells him he will. He wins MVP and gifts the Disney trip to his brother, and the nieces are ecstatic. The QB thanks him as he isn't sure how he'd handle a second Disney trip with two kids under three. Travis then galivants off to the next destination on the tour.
They both return for the victory parade, where the Taylor and Travis characters appear together before the parade and during his victory speech. Afterwards they leave town and head to a suburb for a short date, where the Taylor character shows him a song she wants to put on the next Taylors Version release (the one he got the cardigan for) and asks if he'll feature. He's a bit taken a back and initially refuses, but she tells him it'll be fine. He agrees, and they head out on the rest of the tour.
We jump ahead a bit. The tour is over, Jason's character has officially retired, and Travis' character has just received his Super Bowl ring... or rather, two. He gifts Taylors character the second one. They go on recording, but he stops, suddenly. She asks what's wrong and he says he's been thinking, since he got injured earlier in the season. He reveals he's been getting weird migraines, and doctors are still running tests to figure everything out. But he thinks its about time to quit football. He's won three Super Bowls, been named MVP, there's really not much else to do except go back for more... and he doesn't want to turn into Tom Brady. He says he can't offer the Taylor Character much, but he's been smart with his money, and he thinks commercial deals will keep coming for a while. She responds that she's got a long career ahead of her, and as long as he doesn't mind being a house husband, she's got no issues. He says he's fine with that, and mentions maybe he'll got back to school and finish his degree. They go back to the song as the book comes to a close.
Optional epilogue, Travis character is at the Chiefs main office, having just told his coach his plans to retire and about the headaches. Coach walks him to the elevator and says he can't blame him with the headaches and wishes him and the Taylor Character well. After getting off the elevator he runs into the Chiefs/Royals chaplain (he's a Catholic priest who flies with the teams wherever, even when seasons overlap. He's pretty dope and apparently, I have a relative who knows him?) and the Travis character talks to him, tells him why he's there when asked, then asks if he could officiate a small wedding... but not now. The guy says he could if given enough notice. They part and that's that. End of story.

Uno reversing you
Tumblr media
answering this while crying btw
Tumblr media
my all-time #1 is from Great Teacher Onizuka. like i love the track and love the visuals despite it being an old anime. actually discovered the song before even finding out it was frm an anime and i was surprised tbh. happy to report that gto also became one of my fav animes so !! 🫶
the rest under the cut!
(some of them are kinda essay-ish so it's a long read, but rest assured i get tired of talking at some point)
Tumblr media
quick sidenote that i've stopped watching anime for like a good chunk of my life zzz so i might have missed out on a lot of them/forgotten most of them? don't shoot me for having limited selection 😭 tried to make it as diverse since i just have 10 spots but tbh it's so hard cus i clearly have a certain preference for rock/math rock for anime openings so ??
Tumblr media
↳ this track + video really just has a chokehold on me. it's the coolest thing in existence imo. i cannot stress enough that it feeds you both in visuals and in audio !! i've alrd talked abt this above so we skipping the essay for her. watch gto!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
↳ plz before i get called a cheater, these two tracks kinda sound the same because it's the same vocalist (TK is him as a solo artist, LTS is the band). unravel (tokyo ghoul) beats abnormalize (psycho pass) when it comes to audio, but visual-wise i just dig the art for psycho pass's OP more. like yeah the art for tokyo ghoul opening is much more of a feast to the eyes and the animations slap, but psycho pass as an anime entirely hits different to me.
Tumblr media
↳ visuals-wise it's normal (pls it's the type of OP that feels like a spoiler if u watch it wtf 😭 but it really doesn't spoil anything). i'm just in love with this because it works well as an opening song, but also works for fight scenes (kinda like unravel).
whoever is behind bungou stray dogs sure did a great job of inserting the opening song in the middle of the episode. like i rmr getting confused there hasn't been an opening yet few mins into the episode, and then there it is in the fight scene itself. it gets a 10/10 in versatility because it just always fits all throughout the season.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
↳ never beating the cheating allegations bc here we are again with a tie. in my defense, asian kung-fu generation anime openings r really fuckinnnn good. visually it's haruka kanata (naruto) for me especially cus of the team 7 snippets, but audio-wise rewrite (fma) is something i'll never get tired of listening to. makes me feel like i'm a main character smoking after i just beat up dozens of guys. (i didn't watch fma though zz but for some reasons i know of this song)
Tumblr media
↳ durarara!! is one of my all-time fav animes tbh and this opening just gives the proper vibes for it. drrr's storytelling is very non-linear (rashomon effect/method forgot the literary term) where you get different povs from each character before it culminates into one event, and this song feels like that? it feels like i'm in the middle of tokyo piecing together all the stories i've gotten and then getting sudden clarity.
Tumblr media
↳ someone recommended jujutsu kaisen to me way back and ngl i'm a serial anime opening skipper but i was just physically unable to skip this one every time. like? even the visuals go hard. eventful anime opening for such an eventful anime tbh.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
↳ proud to be one of the ppl who actually know abt this song from bakemonogatari itself 😭 tbh the anime's opening songs don't really go hard even if it's that kind of genre. i honestly like bakemonogatari though and it was funny to me that all the ops were cutesy despite it being a mystery show.
it's quirky yet still fits the premise of the series, like mc just bickers with some people he meets and then boom suddenly he's covered in blood. shoutout to shaft studio because they're just a master of absurd anime. like yeah there are fight scenes but ?? the way it's not even the main point of the show is fun to me.
↳ plz an iconic opening for an iconic anime (ohshc) 🌸 !! growing up this anime had a grip on me, as well as that "kiss kiss fall in love!" in the beginning. free serotonin tbh, the anime and this op.
Tumblr media
↳ used to know this word-for-word... help. this doesn't sound like the type of ops above but it's really catchy. naruto ops slap that's that on that
Tumblr media
↳ brooooo the vibes of this song... it makes me feel powerful. and a lot just happening in the entire song, kinda like tokyo revengers fr 😭 like the sound changes in the middle of the song and it confuses me but it's so good (again, kinda like tokyo revengers itself)
anyways, waiting for ur list! <3 thank you for ur interest in the shit i say
oki i finished, my bad if it's super long but i think you signed up for that by asking me. like i just don't ever give a simple answer ever i get too excited, and next thing i know it's too late to regret lmfaooo
wish i can include more but this was already physically hard for me to type bc i know im letting go of my other favs 😭

time to rant again because trying to fill tim’s plot craters is our job, even two days later.
I wonder if iris disappearing gave an out to carlos, a wake up call to start living his life to the fullest, because while I don’t think both of them stayed “faithful” to each other (because what’s there to be faithful in a paper marriage) iris had a boyfriend and carlos had his own experiences, plus the whole paper marriage and iris knowing carlos’ sexuality because she knew everything about him, I also think that he was scared because of how his parents reacted and how his family would react, he tried to hid that part of himself to the public.
So the moment she went missing around 2016/2017 (and I guess not long after they got “married”, they were probably around 18-20 years old, and it definitely happened before 2015, the timeline makes sense) and after searching for her, because I really doubt he didn’t, he made peace with it, like he did with the breakup in 3.01, and rebuilt his life like he wanted to, living his true self, got the camaro and the townhouse. It would explain why he was so disinterested whenever Michelle talked about iris but he was still willing to help her.
I also think that Michelle kept stalking Dustin because she knew the truth about them, she knew that the real number one suspect couldn’t be Carlos but her actual boyfriend when she went missing. Carlos was probably the first suspect but I wonder if he told the police the truth about their marriage, that they were just friends etc etc, and let him go fast, that’s why he was able to help Michelle with the files (this is a plot crater Timothy).
Still… not telling TK until now is a big no for me, he should have told him the moment they got serious, or idk while he was updating his will with TK in it, because that’s probably when he cleared it up from any iris connection, if there was any, to put TK. But knowing Carlos and how he just keeps everything to himself to protect the people he loves, he’d rather be the only one suffering before hurting someone else, it makes sense. Still hypocritical of him but not ooc in my opinion.
Last thing then I’m out: I love how they gave him flaws he’s not perfect and he’ll never be, he’s layered he’s got secret, his past wasn’t a happy one and we all get to learn more about him and see a side of Carlos we haven’t seen before in this season, I am: happy.

Taylor Swift Meets Hockey RPF: Advent Calendar Day 7
The 19th ficciest Taylor Swift song ever is…
youtube
Song: Breathe Album: Fearless Year: 2008/2021 Lyrics: https://genius.com/Taylor-swift-breathe-taylors-version-lyrics Ficciness Rank: #19
I initially wrote this song off because it's purportedly about a breakup, and most of us don’t want unhappy endings in our fic. But it’s actually pretty unusual among Taylor’s many breakup songs: there’s nothing reproachful about the other person in the lyrics, nothing that says the relationship is broken. All it talks about is the pain of having to separate from someone. There isn’t even anything definitive that says they were romantically involved.
So what if it’s not about a breakup at all? What if it’s about…a trade?
A trade when the two people haven’t gotten together yet, when they haven’t even admitted to themselves that they want to be together. They’re just best friends who certainly aren’t unknowingly soulbonded or anything like that, haha why would you even bring that up. Then the trade is announced out of nowhere and it hits them both like a hammer blow to the chest. One of them has to fly hundreds of miles away and the other has to stay here and it does feel, literally, like they can’t breathe. As the season goes on, they keep going to the team doctors with physical symptoms, and the doctors can’t find anything wrong. One of them does get asked if he’s sure he isn’t bonded to someone? But no, he would obviously know about that. This is just…normal emotional stuff, he can push through it if he tries hard enough. It has nothing to do with the guy he has to stop himself from FaceTiming literally every night before he goes to sleep.
Pairing I’d assign to this song: I know I just did them, but this one has to be TK/Patty. Patty gets traded to Vegas, and they’re both telling themselves that this is totally fine, it won’t be a problem. It shouldn’t be a problem. But the longer Patty’s gone, the more trouble TK has sleeping at night, and Patty…Patty’s body is fucking falling apart.
The only thing that makes it feel better is to be on video calls together, so they start doing that. At first it’s just once in a while, but soon it’s for hours each day. On days when they don’t have time for it they’re pulling themselves through by their fingernails, struggling not to collapse. Claude is the one who picks up on it first; he had an unacknowledged soulbond with Danny back in the day, and it drove them both crazy before they figured it out. TK laughs him off when he suggests it, tells him it can’t possibly be that, but…he’s starting to wonder. And then they fly to Vegas and he sees Patty and it’s like the whole world has color again. He runs over to Patty, too fast probably, but once he’s wrapped in Patty’s arms he doesn’t care what anyone thinks about them. It’s such a relief to just feel like a person again. He goes home with Patty instead of going to the team hotel and they spend two days touching as much as they humanly can. Anytime they’re not on the ice, they’re cuddled up on Patty’s couch, first in all their clothing, then losing more and more until they’re skin to skin. TK feels like he’s soaking something in through his skin, like he never wants to leave their little blanket haven. But he has to–he has to fly back with the team, so he says goodbye to Patty and takes a cab to the airport. He’s in the cab when he starts getting dizzy, but it’s okay, he can just power through. He gets as far as the crowd of waiting teammates before he finds that he can’t really walk anymore. His knees are folding. The world is going fuzzy. He’s not sure what’s happening to him…
(It’s bond shock. Claude and the team doctors call him an idiot and get him straightened out, and he and Patty get put on a nice regime of physical contact until their bond stabilizes and they can get by on frequent visits and phone sex.)

Taylor to Lucy: "But to Buck, they are his family."
Taylor does get Buck. She knows his family is the 118. She's telling that to Lucy because, seasoned firefighter or not, Lucy is new to the 118 dynamics. That's literally referenced in this ep when Buck asks why is Bobby going in and Eddie replies, "May's still inside." Buck is worried—both for May and his dad Cap—and Lucy watches the exchange, not getting why this person named May being inside warrants so much worrying. Bobby's the captain so he can handle himself, right? But then Eddie tells her she's missing family history: Bobby's relation to fire + kids (also i doubt Lucy knows May is Bobby's kid), Bobby's radiation scare + what it could mean today if something happens, etc.
Basically, Taylor knows Buck. She says something like, "When the 118 falls apart, Buck does too," and that's not just something you can guess. She would have had to be present for these breakdowns and then care enough to connect the dots. He's a firefighter, the job's not easy, of course he's going to fall apart sometimes, but Taylor noticed a pattern and she's telling Lucy about it.
I get why people hate Taylor. It's because of that first episode where she came and was ready to jeopardize the 118's lives just for the sake of some views on her news. But the thing is, she's developed as a character too. People simply refuse to see it. She's not a 2D character anymore, we know more about her, but people hate her so much already they won't let go of their pre-conceived notions. But like, she's trying to be better. To be good. She saw Lucy and Buck standing together and she didn't go all "gotta make sure she stays away from my man", instead she went all "gotta make sure she doesn't fuck up the 118 dynamics because buck's not ready for it." Because she watched them come out too—the 118 full team shot + May she was having filmed? Yeah, that included Lucy too, and she was the only one that didn't make sense because she's a new addition. But the show creators didn't crop her out, they kept her in. And Taylor saw that, the way Lucy was with the 118 and she knows the dynamics are changing again. So I guess, this was Taylor's way of telling her to simply stick to her lane. Which, okay, did serve two purposes.
I’ll be honest, I started replying to this message, but it was taking too long to fully get my thoughts out and so I’m going to try to keep it brief. Therefore, I know not everything will be fully clear, but here we are.
Taylor gets Buck to a degree, but that’s it. Generally speaking she has never nor will ever 100% understand Buck. Neither one fully understands each other because they fundamentally do not work together. This fact cannot be argued.
There was a lot of nuance and multiple meanings happening with the entire Lucy and Taylor scene, especially with Taylor’s speech.
Taylor is currently and clearly feeling insecure, unsure, and even a bit angry with Buck and their relationship. Taylor feels threatened, and I don’t think Taylor fully understands where the threat is coming from. Taylor may have some grasp on how important Eddie (and Chris) is to Buck, but I think right now TK is dismissive of Eddie being the actual threat because TK has a very heteronormative mindset. Instead, a close option for Taylor to direct her insecurities is at an innocent Lucy, a woman. Check out this post originally by fiona-fififi that explains how Lucy is a red herring in the show.
Taylor is a strange character. Is she barely a character the way Ana was? No, but I still wouldn’t ever call Taylor a fully developed character, cause she’s not. She’s inconsistent. And given what we know now, the show has never tried to redeem Taylor’s character. Even when she “tries to do good” it’s often a misstep, especially when it comes to Buck.
Taylor had multiple reasons for confronting Lucy the way she did, one of them absolutely being in a “stay away from Buck because that’s my man.” Sure, Taylor may be trying to protect Buck to a degree, but you can’t convince me that was her biggest reason for saying and doing what she did.
Look, your message came across as if you’re trying to get me to see the good in Taylor? I’m not trying to be aggressive here, I promise, but I don’t know what to tell you beyond I’m never going to like Taylor Kelly. Do I think she’s Super Bad Evil? No. But I don’t think she’s a good person either. I preferred her being a one off villain in 2x6. Even with the “development” she’s had up through 5x16, she’s still unlikeable to me and uninteresting. I will not miss her when she’s finally gone.

911 Lone Star Rewatch: 1x05
Studs time!
So I know this episode kind of gets roasted a lot for a ton of reasons... but I actually think this episode is very fun and funny! Obviously there are also sad parts, but the parts that people tend to think are gross, I actually think are very funny. So unpopular opinion disclaimer, I suppose.
Ahh the firefighter strippers. I love that the ladies at the club all cheer for the 126 when they come in.
Oh man. Yeah Paul's whole storyline is so heartbreaking in this episode.
So I've seen people talking about how when TK tells Wayne that he plays for the other team there's a challenge in the way he says it--which I super agree with. But I don't know if I've seen people talk about the little looks that TK and Owen share with each other through that whole scene. Like when TK reacts to the guy assume 'daughters' and then also when he says 'lock up your sons doesn't sound right'. Because you can see how much TK is looking at his dad for solidarity in that moment. And its so great. Like TV loves to show negative relationships between gay men and their fathers and I love that Owen is always shown as being supportive of who TK is.
The little soldier.
This woman that they have in a few episodes of season 1, who is like the widow of one of the old 126 firefighters... they were really trying to make her like a reoccurring person. But I think especially after Tommy shows up in S2 to function as Grace's friend, there is really no need for her anymore. Which I think is for the better, because this lady is a little boring.
Ahhhhhh yes I forgot that Austin exists outside of the space time continuum where it's only been 4 months since the accident, but also 116 days since TK had his heart broken by his soulmate, which happened after the accident. So they are saying the accident happened 4 days before they decided to find Owen to come rebuild the firehouse?? And Wasn't Judd in the hospital for 6 weeks??
LOL I love TK and Matteo trying to look busy in the background while Paul is getting asked out. Just absentmindedly shining stuff and making faces at each other.
Oh yes we meet Zoe in this episode! I liked her a lot as one of Owen's girlfriends. I think I'm a little partial to Catherine because I'm a major S3 fan. But Zoe is so good!
Also when Owen and Zoe burst through the door, is Owen just assuming TK isn't home??
Also I love how they handle everything with Owen's ED stuff. It is honestly such a healthy conversation that they have about the whole thing. To quote Zoe, "Masculinity doesn't have to be performative" *I would put in some clapping emoji's here if I was on my phone*
I was lamenting about how we lose Zoe with no explanation between seasons, but I remembered that the reason is Gwyn. Which I love having her in season 2... honestly the only one of Owen's love interests that I did not really like having around is Kendra....
"What are they protesting?" "Women." Carlos getting straight to the point.
LOL TK saying "take the leap" to Paul about dating, meanwhile he's having his non-committal relationship with Carlos who he tried to run from even though he thinks he's his soulmate.
So I get why people are upset about Grace and Judd's conversation... but I don't know. I don't think I interpret that scene as Grace pressuring Judd into having sex with her. And maybe the scene could have been done better, but I really think she's speaking towards a bigger feeling of feeling unwanted. That he doesn't look at her and that he's been distant. Which are both things that she says.
Are they not allowed to say semen on network TV? Why do we keep saying 'stuff' and 'seed'. They said nut sack like two episodes ago, but semen is too far??? Okay, but Grace says 'inseminated'!! But they can't say 'semen'?? What are these rules??
"I'm just trying to picture my obituary"
Sooo much happens in the last ten minutes of this episode!!
God, Owen at the doctor when he shows him that needle!! God this scene is so funny. The doctor giving him the casual disclaimer that he's on the board of the company is just such a small detail and it makes the whole thing that much funnier. And of course him saying to call 911 if there is excessive bleeding. "Oh that will go over well."
Judd and Grace are so sweet with each other. Them just giggling at the end of that scene is so cute.
I love TK and Paul's little bowling exchange. TK is so sincerely congratulatory about Paul's awful bowling score. I love their friendship so much. Can you believe Paul officiates his wedding in a few years!!!
So how do we think Paul's date (I cannot for the life of me remember her name) reacted to him telling her he's trans. Because she apologizes for her reaction. Do we think it was that she just left? Or did she get angry? What do we think happened there.
They can say boner but not semen????? Make it make sense!!!
Of course the iconic Carlos line, "what that you're straight? I don't judge." Says so much about who Carlos is as a person.
Keep Austin weird, baby.
Can you believe, the fifth 10/10. It's like the scale is rigged. (It is, by me). Okay, only 1 episode behind now! Making progress.
