Yuuta had been acting strange.

Perhaps it was odd for Juvia to make that kind of assumption, but truth be told, in all her months of having Sumeragi Yuuta as a roommate — he'd never been so… Distant.

To be fair, they weren't that kind of duo. They weren't the kind of duo to be like brother and sister, the kind with a bond that was so inseparable, it potentially transcended universes.

While it rang true that Yuuta did care about Juvia a great deal, she never really saw it within each other to try and strengthen whatever bond they had.

To both of them — Yuuta especially — the dynamic they had was good enough. They got along well, and while disagreements were made, they were quick to resolve. They weren't close but they weren't strangers, either.

Which was why Juvia was so on the fence about talking to Yuuta about his current behavior! It was just so weird!

Yuuta — haughty, petty, greedy Yuuta — acting emotionally constipated and distant out of the blue? If you'd have told Juvia something along those lines, she'd be laughing in your face!

On a particular hour of one fateful day, Juvia was trying to get her mind off of whatever ‘thinky thoughts’ she'd come to conclusions about.

While Trein was busy giving her and… Everyone else, a lecture, Juvia was busy contemplating about whether or not she should actually talk to Yuuta about his sudden burst of emotional distance.

Should I? Juvia asked herself a question she didn't even know the answer to. I mean, I'm worried about him and he usually doesn't act like this, but- It isn't really my business to ask..

And what if he just judges me?? Or what if he ignores me? I mean, this is Yuuta we're talking about, he'll probably just look at me weirdly and tell me it's none of my busine-

“Miss Espejo.”

At the sudden sound of Trein’s voice, Juvia jolted out of her train of thought, awkwardly looking up at the old — much more knowledgeable — professor.

In reply, Trein arched a concerned, yet strict brow. “Is there something you'd like to add to the lecture, Miss Espejo?..”

“I…” Juvia trailed away from whatever excuse came to mind, instead flashing a good little smile at Train and showing off her braces in the process. “N-No, Professor! Nothing at all!..”

In spite of the obvious fact that Juvia wasn't paying attention to his lecture, Trein let it slide; He always had a soft spot for Juvia and he let that fact slip when he left her off the hook.

Unfortunately for Juvia’s valiant efforts in trying to focus on the lecture, they were met with little success — only ending with Juvia back in her own bubble of thoughts, blissfully ignoring some comment Ace made about favoritism.

“I just don't get what's up with him lately…”

“Ehh, I can't blame you,” Deuce walked beside her, his head tilting slightly to the side. “Yuuta's always been hard to read. Other than when money is involved.”

It was one of those rare moments where Juvia and Deuce could just… Hang out. Together. Without Ace being a bother.

Sure, it was enjoyable and she liked the company Deuce offered, but she couldn't help but feel bad that she kept bringing Yuuta into the conversation.

“Yeah, but that's the thing,” Juvia’s shoulders sagged, her back leaning lazily against the couch. “It feels like he's getting harder and harder to get a read on, nowadays..”

Deuce’s lips turned into a thin line, releasing a small hum. “How come?”

“Well-” Did she hesitate? Of course, she did! But Juvia had this weird, unshakable feeling in her chest that she could trust Deuce about something like this.

“He always wakes up early to do Crowley's errands, but lately he's been waking up much earlier than usual…” Juvia’s hesitation became more prevalent the longer she went on, but she needed someone to talk to about it, and Deuce was right there. “Skipping breakfast, staying up late… His routine's been getting really ‘rinse and repeat’, y'know?”

Deuce held her gaze for a moment, the look in his eyes gentle and understanding. “Ah… Do you… Think you know why he's been acting like that, lately?”

The only way she could respond to that was to shake her head. She didn't. She would've asked, but Juvia knew how well that would end — with how stubborn Yuuta could be.

Deuce bit his tongue, looking away from Juvia and trying to think of anything to say that could help her.

She huffed, her head hanging slightly. “I just- Sorry, Deuce,” she gave him an apologetic frown. “I know I'm probably being obnoxious about bringing Yuuta up the entire time, and I really should-”

“N-No! No…” Deuce interrupted as abruptly as he could. While it wasn't deliberate, his hand found its way to Juvia’s shoulder. “You… Y-You don't need to apologize, Juvia.”

“You were just speaking what's on your mind. And… You're just showing your concern for Yuuta, a-and you shouldn't see that as something to feel bad about!”

Before she could even fathom the idea of interrupting, Deuce took her hands in his, looking straight into her eyes with an intensity that almost startled her.

“Whatever anyone says about you— Be it annoying, or whiney, or just downright obnoxious? They're wrong! Dead wrong!” Deuce exclaimed, his voice only a pitch lower from outright yelling the words out. “You aren't annoying, you aren't any of those things!”

“You’re kind, emotional, funny, and so compassionate for the people you care about that I can't help but admire you even more for it.”

Deuce heaved several breaths. All that exclaiming of sentences must've tired his voice out a little, Juvia figured.

“You… Are an amazing person, Juvia. Remember that.” Deuce said between long and heavy breaths. “And you shouldn't feel ashamed for feeling rightfully concerned for Yuuta. I may not know him as well as you do, but I know that you care about him. And I think that's all that matters.”

Juvia stared at him for a long while, taking his words into a quiet minute of consideration.

She shouldn't have felt bad about worrying about Yuuta. They weren't close, but at the end of the day, they were roommates even if they didn't ask to be; And as Yuuta's roommate, Juvia would do anything to ensure she and him didn't have sour relations with one another.

Maybe she wasn't the fastest of thinkers, but Juvia’s had this idea in mind since she started noticing Yuuta's behavior.

She'd get scolded for it, maybe, but it wasn't like she'd be experiencing an extremely petty Yuuta for the first time, either.

And so, her plan was set in motion — ready to take the storm by tomorrow.

She took Deuce's hand in hers, a gentle smile gracing her features that it almost got Deuce to stop breathing, then and there.

“Thanks, Deuce.”

Yuuta's going to kill me for this…

Juvia felt nervous just from walking into the botanical gardens. It was already bad enough after she accidentally stepped on Leona's tail, once upon a time.

But it felt even worse because she knew that Yuuta was lurking around, being a gardener doing regular gardener things!

It was like entering the belly of the beast, for crying out loud!!

She kept her movements quiet, her footsteps especially. It was a known fact among the NRC student body that interrupting Yuuta during his ‘gardening hours’ was the closest thing to a death sentence.

Very few were let off the hook for such a crime. If ever.

Actually- Wait. I don't think Yuuta's ever made an exception. Just thinking about it made Juvia even more scared than she had any right to be.

But that still didn't stop her from entering the botanical gardens, avoiding any places Leona could frequent — and finally finding Yuuta.

He was, at first glance, in pure bliss. Seeing him look so peaceful almost made Juvia forget why she even came in the first place.

No, she shook her head, taking several steps towards him with words ready to flood out of her mouth. I have to do this.

“Hey- Yuuta?”

“Oh, Juvia,” there it was: Sumeragi Yuuta's winning smile that was probably ingrained in Crowley's mind every other day. “What brings you here? You know better than to interru-”

“What's been going on, Yuuta?”

He blinked. Several times, Yuuta blinked his eyes, a sudden stiffness visible in the way he presented himself. Juvia may or may not start to regret this plan but she wanted nothing more than for Yuuta to just tell her what was going on with him recently.

“... Sorry?” Yuuta laughed a humorless chortle. Juvia noticed him taking a slight step back.

“Sorry- Juvie, but I don't know what you mean.”

She crossed her arms, lips pursing nervously. “I’m pretty sure you do. You need to tell me what's been up with you lately.”

“I told you already, I'm fine.”

“No, you said you didn't know what I meant. There's something going on, Yuuta, and I feel like I should know.”

“Juvia, this isn't any of your business-”

“I feel like it is, Yuuta!” That's when Juvia finally threw anything she had to say out of the window. “What, is it because of me?? Am I the reason you're being so distant???”

Yuuta's mouth gaped open. “What? Juvia, I-”

“Yuuta, please!” Word vomit. Just- A flurry of words rushed out of her mouth that she didn't know if she could stop. “Am I the reason?? Have I been bothering you- Am I bothering you?”

“Because if it is, you know better than to just keep me in the dark about it! I don't care what you think of me, Yuuta, I just want to know what the hell is up with your behavior!”

She breathed in and out, but that concern seemed to transition into frustration that he still wasn't cooperating. “You've been so distant recently! You barely even talk to me anymore, let alone acknowledge my presence!”

Juvia took one big step towards Yuuta, holding him by his upper arms. “Yuuta, please,” she pleaded with him, even if she was scared of what he'd say. “Just tell me…”

Yuuta stood there, stunned with his head hung low. His lips parted, the words he'd been avoiding to tell her finally spilling out from its cup.

“There was a girl,” — he said with a softness to his voice that felt uncanny — “before I came here, I knew a girl. We've been friends since forever, and… I only stopped seeing her during my second year of middle school.”

Juvia said nothing, cautiously letting him go and giving Yuuta permission to continue. “Her name… I liked to call her ‘Rei-Rei’, a lot. I used it more than I did her real name.”

“Rei-Rei was… She was this burst of energy that was always hard to properly describe. She was witty, funny, and so, so unafraid.”

He looked down at the vines of a plant he'd been watering until now. “... She used to be. I don't know, now.”

“I fucked up with Rei-Rei, Juvia. I made some stupid mistakes, and in the process, I lost her.”

Juvia didn't understand a thing. She knew the story Yuuta was trying to tell her, but she didn't understand why she was being told something so… Personal.

It irritated her, in a way. But irritation faded into heartbreak at the way Yuuta's voice broke when he said he ‘lost’ this girl.

Then he looked back at her, her heart aching at the level of nostalgia in his eyes when he did. A nostalgic look that Juvia couldn't properly find a grasp on.

Yuuta went closer to her, holding the side of her face with one hand, the other one falling to his side.

He smiled, that same look of nostalgia still on his face, even as his voice broke another time.

“... Sometimes I see her, too much of her, in you.”

1. When did you start playing?

Oh a long time ago...over a year ago I’d say? The main 3 were only up to uhhhh the Hermit book I think. I remember I stopped playing after that gross fetishy Asra CG came out.

2. What got you into the game?

The beautiful art and the tarot theme. This was before I knew what I know fdjhksd

3. Who was your first route?

Julian!

4. Who is your favourite route?

Honestly Muriel is shaping up to be my favourite so far. Before that, I loved Asra’s route.

5. Who is your least favourite?

So far, Portia’s. Don’t get me wrong - it’s nothing to do with Portia herself. It just feels a little stagnant and flat.

(I bet you expected me to say Lucio, didn’t you? Well, you’re wrong).

6. Who do you play in Heart Hunter?

Chibi Chandra!

7. Who is your favourite to chase in Heart Hunter?

Portia or Muriel!

8. Who of the not playable LIs do you wish you could romance?

9. Opinion on Asra?

Asra is often mischaracterised imo and held to an unfair standard that a lot of the other characters aren’t. I’ve seen many of these arguments and I’m tired.

Asra is not jealous, possessive, creepy, manipulative or shady. Not once does he act possessive towards the MC in any of the routes including his own (a possible exception could be made for the Reversed Ending, but what do you expect? That’s after the MC literally enables that behaviour).

Being sad or cautioning the MC against Julian is not being jealous or possessive. The way he talks about Julian it’s pretty obvious he felt more for the man than he realises, even if he doesn’t understand that himself.

Asra keeps secrets from the MC because canonically trying to remember too much too fast harms the MC. This has been established. In his route, he literally tells you that he hates keeping secrets from you. He takes you into his own personal gateway - an expression of trust and a willingness to open up to you. Does he do these things in the other routes? No, but that’s because you’re not spending that time with him.

I also see people angsting about how sad Asra is going to be when you tell him about Lucio in his route. Lucio harmed his parents and has been cruel to Asra so like idk what you expect. The MC doesn’t know this of course, but you do!

I think we also forget that Asra took a considerable amount of time and effort to rehabilitate the MC, care for them and reteach them basic tasks as well as magic.

Is Asra a perfect person? Of course not. He’s probably overly cautious, he can be a little distant and he reacts badly when in a crisis (see the deal he made with the Devil). He’s not always brave and not always strong, but why should we expect him to be? He’s a human being and he’s bound to have faults, but he has a generous nature and is remarkably well-adjusted considering the trauma of his childhood (don’t tell me that suddenly losing your parents is not traumatic).

10. Opinion on Julian?

I once said that Julian is likely hypersexual and I still maintain that. (For those of you who don’t know, being hypersexual is like..a tendency to engage in compulsive or self-harming sexual behaviour, sometimes as a result of trauma). I think Julian craves affection and associates sexual interest or sexual contact with his worth as a person. I don’t think he does it deliberately or to be manipulative, but because he has a definite self-esteem problem. I honestly see him as bipolar like me.

I think the way the fandom treats him as this dumbass uwu subby boy is kind of annoying. A lot of people I feel erase his bisexuality either by just ignoring it or by making homophobic jokes where the punchline is ‘ha ha he likes dick like you do!!!!’ like no shit, he’s BISEXUAL. But he’s also hard-working, brave, clever, pleasant and good-natured, and once he starts to really come into his own, he’s cheerful and optimistic. He has so many more good qualities than just ‘submissive and kinky’.

11. Opinion on Lucio?

This may surprise y’all but I actually don’t hate Lucio that much. I love to hate him as a villain.

I think he, like all of us, is a product of his environment. He grew up in a clan with a strong martial culture; his clan were warlike and frequently made war on his neighbours. We’re all influenced by our upbringing and I don’t think he’s an exception. I draw the line at saying he ‘just didn’t know right from wrong’ though. He’s not a baby.

But the differences between Lucio and the other LIs like Portia, Asra, Muriel etc is that Lucio’s life and his fate and the hardships he’s faced are almost entirely due to his own choices. It was he who decided on the eve of his eighteenth birthday to kill his parents. He sought out Vlagnagog with the intention of making a deal. He chose to continue to make deals. He knew he carried the plague and he chose to carry it across the continent including into Vesuvia, causing the deaths of thousands. He murdered and blackmailed his way across the continent. He wouldn’t have even needed to bargain for a new body if he hadn’t caught the plague that he brought into Vesuvia himself after making a deal etc.

Do I think he is a sort of cackling, villainous cliche or unrepentantly evil? No. I think he’s a person who has made deliberate choices that he is facing the consequences for and IMO it’s important that he face those consequences. I do think his main issue is entitlement and a profound lack of self-esteem (I don’t think he really believes any of the stuff he actually says about himself or other people; even Lucio’s not delusional).

I mean that’s about as generous and objective a take on Lucio as I can give you. I’ve made my feelings clear on him, but I don’t want to give the impression that I don’t actually understand him as a character, hopefully the above will prove I do haha.

12. Opinion on Muriel?

Out of all the LIs I think I relate most strongly to Muriel because of a few reasons: trauma, touch-starved, lonely and wants to connect but afraid of getting hurt (physically or emotionally).

Now that I’ve gotten personal, I really hate the way Muriel is treated by the fandom. He’s either called bland or boring, or he’s treated like he’s an animal, called feral and animalistic. He’s none of those things.

Muriel has a big complex about being alone. He was literally given away by his parents and left in Vesuvia on his own, to fend for himself on the streets. Being abandoned by his parents and not knowing why, not remembering is traumatic enough, but because of his size he’s often characterised as aggressive and strong when he’s always been gentle. Later in his life, Muriel was forced to fight and kill people against his will. I don’t think a lot of people get just how traumatic that is; not only being forced into doing Lucio’s bidding, but being forced to violently take someone’s life. I don’t blame him for leaving to live at his hut and resist connecting to anyone. It’s common for traumatized people to withdraw and isolate themselves, because the thought of getting hurt again is more frightening than being alone. But everyone needs human contact, and I think Muriel struggles a lot between wanting connection and contact (physical or emotional), between not wanting to get hurt again, to not feeling like he’s worth the effort. That struggle is something very close to my heart and that’s why I’m attached to him.

13. Opinion on Nadia?

Nadia has the biggest youngest sister complex and it’s almost amusing because I, too, have the same complex (even though I’m actually the older sibling!). Nadia, like me, feels like she’s always been compared unfavourably to her older sisters, and has felt like she has to work harder to prove she’s their equal.

It’s probably because she’s a Cancer like me. We have dual natures sometimes; the caretaker and the ringleader, who feel like we have to take it all on ourselves to get the job properly done, but who have moments where our self-doubt takes over.

I do find some aspects of Nadia’s route to be sort of odd, where it’s mentioned that the people of Vesuvia find her to be a tyrant. There’s literally no evidence to suggest that, so the only reasoning I can find next is she’s a woc. But race doesn’t matter in Vesuvia apparently so...what else could be the reason? Not to mention she’s been asleep for the past three years, so the people haven’t even seen the Countess in that time.

I feel like we didn’t really get to understand a lot about Nadia even from her route-why did she fall asleep? What on Earth did she see in Lucio? Why did she let him do all those bad things in Vesuvia before he died? (My initial thought was Cancers can be sloth-like and passive, so that could be why).

14. Opinion on Portia?

Of all the LIs I feel like it’s Portia I know the least about despite having probably the most appearances. Sure, she’s quirky and fun and cheerful, and that’s cute, but...what does she want? What does she fear? How does she feel about her brother being on trial?

I’m hoping we get to expand more of her personality in her route. I know her patron Arcana is the Star, so her route will likely be about learning to have faith in other people, but who knows.

15. What is your favourite Arcana card?

Justice. The Empress is a close runner-up.

16. Have you bought any of the official merch?

No, I refuse to give a single cent to Nix Hydra. (I really want those Tarot cards though hhh)

17. What is your favourite CG?

The one where Asra is sitting in the gondola. Squishy cheeks :3c

Muriel x Lucio, Asra x Lucio or Julian x Lucio. None of them would even consider ever touching Lucio with a ten foot pole and y’all know this.

Circus of Freaks (CoF) OC

(This is gonna have mistakes and I just made this OC like minutes ago-)

Name: Chloe Ferrell

Gender: female

Sexuality: Bisexual prefers men

Height: 5'10 -keep in mind women back then were like 5'2 or so, so Chloe is like a giant during this time-

Weight: 148 LBS

From: Down in the South America

Accent: Southern but not thickly Southern

Outfit:

(I chose this dress because I wanted something similar to what I wore to a wedding as a child which to me was gorgeous and absolutely stunning) Chloe does not wear shoes she is looked down at by women and men for the way she is being barefooted all the time but she hates shoes can't convince her to wear any.

Hairstyle: Unlike other women with all the weird painful looking hairstyles and all the accessories they had in their hair Chloe didn't wear one accessory or had a fancy hairstyle she just left it down which most didn't mind since they're stunned by her natural curly wavy hair (and quite frizzy)

Ethnicity: Mixed white and native

Since there was LOTS of racism back then (and still is) some people would avoid or look in loathe at Chloe mainly in the summer when she gets tanner and also darker making the native show more obviously but still she's more white than native she knows that for sure so she is more paler but peachy skin toned

Birthplace: Oklahoma which also known as Indian territory Chloe does not tell where she is from to people she only and always says "from the South" Or "From America" Since she's now in England with her older half sister living together

Wide lips with a little chubby body but slim and lengthy with a bit of curves and big bondongas (˵ ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°˵)

When Chloe was able to finally live on her own and away from her broken messed up family even though she loved them with all her heart she just needed to get away. But hearing from her older half sister Allison she decided to travel with her to England and live with her there. When finally arriving and getting adjusted Chloe hears about the freaky circus full of freaky people and "creatures" So she decided to stop by and look at the place. Once reaching destination she immediately sees the first freaky people Etch and Dalien the conjoined twins. When Etch flirts with her and telling her he could let her in for free if she gave him a kiss and astonishingly it worked she only kissed him on the cheek being the heart of gold and couldn't say no person she is she did (not to mention already taking a small liking to Etch by his voice and looks) When inside she takes her seat watching the show they gave seeing Half boy, Goat girl, Cannibal Twins, and knife woman along with Etch and Dalien she was very fascinated and stunned but tried best to keep the expressions she had not too obvious as she did see them freaks but more like just different from normal people and stood out she didn't pity or seen them the way others did. After the show the freaks did noticed that the rest of the audience seemed disgusted or thought of Chloe as a freak keeping distance away from her and whispering to one another since she seemed like a giant to women and even some men and for as a weirdo no shoes not really dressed like the people there. When everyone left Chloe stayed waiting for all to leave but was stopped by the conjoined twins as they asked and wondered if she would like to join the circus and surprisingly after persuasion and convincing words she did. They did take her back and had to mark her as in taking a tooth out which she actually needed a tooth removing having a bad cavity so she pulled out the bad tooth herself. Etch and Dalien haven't met anyone like her which no one has anyway, then things have turned now having to be kept in a cage with the others and all she did end up fighting back a bit not liking this a bit but gave in didn't want to cause no trouble anyway she stayed in a bigger cage next to the Cannibal twins and the Morgan twins. Chloe wondered what in the living hell are kids doing in here being locked up they didn't seem like the others but kinda thought they're probably hiding something that she doesn't know or can see.

After a bit at the circus being locked up and all now being told the truth of this place and that everyone here was a normal being that was turned into freaks by the brothers she was scared for her life. She was the easiest going out of everyone not much of a talker but when did her voice was shy and soft quite skittish. She didn't argue or say anything bad to Ringy, Tickets or the Michelson twins and went along with everything causing no trouble. She would be in the ticket booth with Tickets helping give out tickets to customers and would chit chat. Sometimes Ringy and Chloe talked a bit and even Etch would talk with her when at the ticket booth. Chloe would chuckle and have a little smile from Daliens terrible puns and the funny things Tickets would tell her, and when Ringy told her about the Michelson twins of how they were homeless and all she felt very sorry and terrible for them couldn't blame them for becoming like this since they had a terrible life so couldn't forgive what they done but give another chance and forgive them. Chloe was more interested and awe by Ringy which he also awed her finding her mysterious as well and stunning for the hair and the way she dresses differently and mainly for the size of her. Whenever locked up she would do her best to make the others laugh and smile and comfort the others mainly interacting with the Morgan twins, Halfy and the Cannibal twins she was seen sensitive and very sweet lacking backbone and a heart of gold by all the others. Goaty and Chloe didn't get along well both having anger issues and easily aggravated/irritated. She really loved Igor and Blake being the child and baby fever woman she is liking to interact with children. When they're fed Chloe had an amazing appetite eating like Dalien but didn't seem to gain a pound really and would even receive apples from Etch which would make her face and heart flutter a bit. When the Morgans asked about Chloe's story and all how she came here and England she told most some of her life which was got the others attention. As a child when only 5 her mother was murdered being motherless most of her life, then having a bit of the Cinderella story of father finding another woman the "step" Mother and step siblings a older step sister and younger step brother which she saw them as siblings but didn't see their mother as her "step" Mother only calling her by her name, her papa emotionally and mentally abused her and the family being a German and whatever else he was part of alcoholic he was but Chloe still loved him wholeheartedly and dearly for he was still a loving silly papa he was being the one that mainly understood him. And that the family was loving silly and crazy ofc but also broken and messed up growing up in violence seeing her own family members would argue and even fight as getting older. Was traumatized by it and also by a man when 15 that always liked to be too close to her and had to put his hands on her always staring at her and talk to her in creepy manner putting his lips on her face once and her hand(s) seemed to target her then her younger sister since Chloe was older. He was a crazy man too fighting and argue with the air and talk to literally the air when there's no one there. And grew up lonely and distant not really having friends and all and growing up in poverty close to being homeless. The freaks really were heartfelt and sorry feeling pity for her and so did Ringy and the etch and Dalien who overheard and stood by the tent listening. Chloe would sometimes even stay up whole nights or sleep not well like others having insomnia couldn't even stay asleep always waking up having dark circles under her eyes.

When the Morgans broke free out the cage and free the others Chloe kept guard and watch as she also had to distract them for the others as they all quietly escaped as knife woman stayed behind to get revenge on Tickets which she did Chloe had to fight back and persuade them they could live with her and her sister and have better lives and be happy she in tears also a bit blushing mess confessed her feelings to Etch and all wanting them to start over and that they could put all this behind them taking his gun throwing it away and hugging them trying not to sob a wreck from almost at death and from the overwhelment of what happened seeing what happened to Tickets feeling sad he's gone now, enjoying his company when she could. But she did convince them as they both had their moments being at finally peace and quiet ( (˵ ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°˵)) then Chloe gets a smooch from Etch and yea romantic moment then yuh happily ever after they lived with Allison and Chloe living together happily as would visit and see the others after their escape to see how they're doing now. Happy ever after TEEHEE the end LMAO-
