When the Great Hall slowly cleared, it was your turn to approach your husband, still seated on the large Iron Throne and the Conqueror‘s Crown atop his silver-blonde mane.
His shoulders and head dropped slightly with the heavy doors falling shut behind the last person leaving, clearly displaying all the pressure that rested on them. Your lips had dropped as well, into a pout that showed the pity you held for him.
You approached him with slow, careful steps not to startle him as if you were a hunter stalking towards its prey, not making a sound to strike in an ambush.
And when your hand eventually brushed his shoulder, he released a long sigh.
Without either of you saying anything, you positioned yourself onto his lap, straddling his thighs with your arms wrapped around his neck and the skirts of your dress rucked up around your hips.
Ever since you got pregnant, you hadn’t touched any of your normal dresses–the fabric either too heavy or too tight for your changing body. Lighter dresses with much less embroideries and other decorations filled your closets, a new one being fitted to your growing bump and breasts at least every fortnight.
Much to your husband’s delight, since he was utterly infatuated seeing your body swell because of him–or much more his seed.
Aemond fully embraced your advances and the position, head tipping forwards to rest his forehead against your swollen bosom, enjoying the simple proximity and comfort you brought.
Your marriage with him hadn’t always been like that, starting cold and with him showing no emotions other than the sense of duty for your arranged marriage.
Only after you both had learned Aemond had put a child into you, something primal in him set itself free, making him protective of you… but also obsessed.
Your pregnancy was nearing the seventh moon, and your breasts were swollen enough for your back to ache from the weight and for your feet to hurt with each step. It was rare you even left your marital chambers, mostly laying in bed with your feet positioned atop a few pillows.
The dowager queen had told you it was normal for a woman carrying a Targaryen offspring to experience such terrible side-effects during their pregnancy, as both she and her daughter had shared the same fate many times before.
You believed her–but only because you didn’t have another choice.
Your breasts were hot and tender to the touch and already swollen to the point one easily overfilled Aemond’s large hands. And just like now, they always tended to strain against the low cut necklines of your dresses, the fabric cutting into the skin and making your flesh appear to spill over it. That had earned you the curious glances of more than one man of court, much to your husband’s dismay.
The swell of your belly put some distance between your bodies, and Aemond had his hands planted on either side of it–a habit he had picked up rather quickly with your unborn babe starting to kick just mere nights ago.
When he pressed his chiseled lips to the exposed and flushed skin over your breasts in a soft kiss, the familiar warmth spread throughout your body, settling at the apex between your legs. It was a subtle movement as you ground your hips down on his, but still enough for Aemond to groan against your body.
A dark-blown pupil gazed up at you with his eye widened slightly, the lilac almost completely eclipsed by black, not having to say anything for you to know what he wanted.
You gave him a reassuring nod, and in no time, he had pushed the neckline of your dress down enough to free not one, but both your breasts out of their confines.
From the heavy sigh you released it was clear you felt relieved already, more so when his lips wrapped around one of your hardened buds. But the familiar stimulation of his fingers around the other one was missing–until you eventually felt his hand eagerly undoing the laces in the front of his breeches.
It was difficult for him to do so with you sitting on top, so you slightly raised your hips, allowing him to pull out his hard and throbbing cock.
You were surprised he went that far, especially because you were in the Throne Room with the possibility of someone barging into the room–but you also were excited.
“Aemond,” you spoke softly. “We cannot.”
Though your words were a weak attempt to protest, there did not really come any objection from you as he fisted himself between your bodies, yours already craving what your mind still needed to process.
He pulled back from you with a lewd pop, just a bit of your milk resting in the corners of his mouth. It was obscene, but in your eyes he had never looked so good. “We can,” he all but barked. “I will have the head of anyone that chooses to interrupt us right now–regardless of who it is.”
With that, he tugged the center of your smallclothes aside enough for his digits to tease your entrance, positively surprised you were already soaked for him and whining at the contact.
“I did not know I have married a whore,” he teased shamelessly, bringing the fingers covered with your arousal up to smear it around the areola of your right breast. “Are you certain my brother did not fetch you from the Street of Silk or Flea Bottom even? Or is everyone in the Reach just as depraved as you are, sweet wife?”
The profanity of his words sent a shiver down your spine, and if there even was a sense of restraint still left in your body, it vanished with your hand entangling into his silver mane to tug his head towards your bosom, clearly wanting to silence him.
“Enough,” you scolded teasingly, biting the tip of your tongue to suppress a smirk from taking over your features.
When you eventually sank down on his throbbing length in one swift movement, you shuddered, and Aemond and you both released a contented moan.
His lips locked around the bud that was covered in your arousal, sucking it in the rhythm your core clenched around him. There was no need for you to move–no, you didn’t even want to–fully satisfied with the way his member was just buried inside of you.
Your head tipped back in pleasure, and you tried your best to stifle your moans, only quiet whines and whimpers leaving your lips at the stimulation.
As the pressure in your breast slowly subsided, you were finally able to feel him suckle, and when you looked down, you were blessed with a sight that was truly created by the Seven.
Aemond’s chiseled lips were wrapped around your little bud, his eye half closed and his cheeks dimpled from the suction, amplified each time he swallowed the bits of your milk.
His tongue flickered over your hardened bud, eliciting a soft moan from the depths of your chest. You were able to feel him throbbing inside of you at the sound, followed by a growl that vibrated through your whole body.
You not-so-gently tugged on his hair again, seeming to spur him on even more, and whined a ‘you will have to do the other as well.’
As he pulled back once again, you couldn’t stop yourself from pouting, which was mended by the sight of him licking over your bud to gather the remnants of your milk–all while he kept his eye locked with yours. No matter how badly you wanted not to moan, you couldn’t stop the sound from spilling past your lips. It was certainly getting a reaction out of you. The possibility of being caught long forgotten.
“Stop being greedy,” Aemond panted, and you just bowed your head in submission and nodded. “You should be grateful.” As if it was not him asking for permission to suck your breasts in the first place.
“Y-Yes,” you mumbled in feigned humility, choosing to play into his game.
“Yes, what?” Aemond asked, serving a slap to your sensitive breast that had you wincing.
“Yes, Your Grace.”
“Better.”
And with that, he locked his lips around your other bud, but not without groping your rear to pull you closer towards him and deeper onto his cock–at least as close as possible with your swollen belly between your bodies.
You sat just right with the hem of his tunic rubbing against your pearl, every lap of his tongue and squeeze of his fingers around your other breast sending a bolt of pleasure straight down between your legs.
But then your hips started to move on their own accord, grinding down on him, riding him while he sucked every last drop of milk from you.
The aching of your back and breasts was long forgotten as you chased your pleasure.
A couple of moments passed until you felt Aemond’s breathing growing labored, his chest almost heaving with more and more muffled grunts and groans escaping his throat. He was loud–much to your surprise–but your body seemed to keen at that, the knot in the pit of your belly tightening at a rapid pace.
And then, you toppled over the edge of your peak with a loud cry of his name.
Your body crouched forward while both arms just wrapped around the back of his neck to pull him closer into your bosom, the coldness of the crown pushing against your collar bone a stark contrast to the heat soaring within your body.
You were trembling astride him, whining when you felt how your peak’s contractions were practically forcing the spend out of your husband’s cock.
Just like he was sucking you dry, you were milking him for every last drop of his spill, too.
And as he spilled inside of you, he released your breast to curse your name and bury his face between your now soft and tender breasts.
There was silence between you safe for your heavy breathing, before you leaned back enough to look down at Aemond. His lips were red and swollen, a soft flush covered his cheeks and neck, and the lilac of his eye was still completely drowned out by black.
Your head bowed forwards to capture his lips in a kiss that was shy of gentleness, the remnants of your milk on his tongue and lips spreading over to yours.
When he pulled back, a sly smirk was draped over his lips–a smirk that couldn’t mean any good.
“Let us retreat to our chambers, wife. I am not yet full.”
Aemond was insatiable, you had learned that very early into your marriage. And that meant you were in for yet another sleepless night, preparing you for what was to come once the babe was born.

Right back at you what are YOUR favourite Chuuya headcanons (and dazai)
okay so the way i draw skk is pretty inconsistent i think but...!!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think its pretty apparent in most chuuyas i draw that i am a BIGGG freckle chuuya enjoyer. it's what he deserves. but also ive been picking up on dark circles/eyebags and such for him too. real and canon to the enlightened one. OH AND PIERCINGS ‼️
Tumblr media
↑↑↑ i like doing em like this
and thennn... not really headcanon? but people are so used to anime chuuya so .... big brown eyed chuuya fan. big sienna haired chuuya fan. harukawa was right from the start... oh and i tend to floof up most characters hair when i draw them but really i do imagine his hair at least really wavy? i dont put much thought into hcs when i draw them so its not very consistent but if i made a definite guide itd be on there. wavy-curly hair
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
NOW AS FOR DAZAI‼️
i like giving him moles fhrhej typically i do one under his left eye and one by the right side of his mouth but occasionally I'll slip some extra in. i also like giving him eyebags... i don't think his sleep schedules the greatest. i think tend to make them darker for port mafia dazais and less obvious for ada dazai ? thats how it is in my head
Tumblr media
...and i really like freckles okay shhhhhshshshshh but i do imagine them to be a lot fainter or non-existent when hes younger, being visible when he's older. getting more sun. but i do draw them as a lot lighter than or sparser than chuuyas, like here.
personally i think hes got dark brown hair, but a bit darker in the mafia because he doesn't take care of it often enough. had i actually been focusing on consistency id probably note like. flatter darker hair (oily) for the mafia & curly hair in the ada. curly haired dazai 🔛🔝...
NOW FOR HEADCANONS IN GENERAL (BUT SLIGHTLY MORE DAZAI IM SO SORRY HE IS ON MY MIND ALWAYS)
theyre both trans. both of them‼️ trust me. soukoku transmasc swag. their periods are synced. i think they'd use different products though tbh. dazai seems like a pads guy but i feel like chuuya would use menstrual cups mainly
chuuya should get a big splotchy birthmark. as a treat. im thinking on the side of one of his legs or smth. i think dazai should have a smaller one on his shoulder or smth.
chuuya likes his coffee black but will have something sweet with it. dazais coffee is more milk and sugar than anything
scars!!!!! on both of them!!!!!!! in particular i think corruption scars chuuya is cool + dazai having one from the scythe slash in fifteen. plus some stupid ones. dazai tripped over his shoes once and now hes got one on his knee. chuuyas got some barely noticable burn on his hand because he forgot to put on oven mitts once
dazai will twirl anything hes holding (pencils. his hair. someone elses hair) but chuuya will flip stuff (coins. pencils. his phone)
theyre both asexual. double black ace rings. if you even care
dazai needs glasses so bad his right eye is so fucked up guys. his headaches are probably the worst go take an ibuprofen dude tf.
dazai also canonically knows embroidery so i like to think its a genuine hobby
OH ALSO chuuya crochet hobby. crochet cant be done by machine. btw

Menzoberranzan Honeymoon
Sixth Prompt: Vier gets angry, why?
Mildly NSFW
Summary: Someone decided to write an incredibly obscene chapbook about Vier and Astarion, and one of them's less thrilled about it than the other (855 words)
---
The chapbook landed on the drawing room table before Astarion with a much louder thud than one would expect, breaking him from an almost meditative trance. As he looked up from his embroidery, he saw Vier on the other side of the table, a look of pure annoyance he’d scarcely seen before twisting her face.
“Whatever this is, I assure you I had nothing to do with it,” he preemptively apologized, though Vier quickly allayed his concern.
“Dear, you wouldn’t happen to be familiar with one Valhalaeria the Vaunted, would you?” she asked, her arms crossing over her chest. “Because I’d very much like to have a conversation with her.”
Astarion set aside his needlework and picked up the book, giving the outside a quick once-over. “Valhalaeria the…OH, now that I think of it, yes, I’ve heard of her. Popular smut author, yes? I think I’ve seen her work being read in a flophouse or two.” Vier certainly needn’t know that more than a few of Astarion’s most successful pick-up lines had been authored by this Valhalaeria. “But I can’t say I’m personally familiar with her. If I remember the rumors correctly, she works out of Waterdeep, and I haven’t been in that neck of the woods since…Oh dear, have I ever?”
His thought trailed off, but he quickly snapped back to attention. “I bet Gale’s intimately familiar with these, though,” he said with a smirk. He flipped the book back to the frontside, taking a look at the artwork printed on the cover - a linework drawing of two elves, each holding one another with arm and leash both, clothing halfway to sliding off entirely. As he looked closer, a few details about the lovers caught his eye; the female elf was rendered with very heavy cross-hatching, clearly intended to be a Drow, while the male elf had a rather magnificent head of hair, each curl and sweep lovingly drawn. Above the drawing, printed in large letters: Menzoberranzan Honeymoon.
Astarion finally looked up from the book. “Is this…us?” he asked in disbelief.
“It’s someone’s sick idea of us, yes,” Vier spat in response. “Someone from the village sent this my way, said they’d picked it up on a trip to Baldur’s Gate. Apparently, someone’s been having fantasies about what you and I have gotten up to in the last year and decided to make a few copper off of it.” “And she didn’t even have the decency of asking us first?” Astarion huffed. “I could’ve told her all sorts of stories! Bet the old miser just didn’t want to give up any royalties.”
Vier pinched the bridge of her nose between finger and thumb. Leave it to Astarion to have some unique priorities. “I’m much more concerned with the fact that people might pick this up and not understand it’s fiction,” she sighed heavily.
“Oh, come now, I’m sure it’s not that bad,” Astarion chided, “Why, I don’t think anyone would think you would, erm…” He quickly rifled through the pages until something caught his eye. “...couple with a drider?” The look in his eye made it clear to Vier that he’d immediately started wondering about whether she actually would. He flipped through a few more pages. “Oh, no, I absolutely know you’d do that,” he couldn’t help but purr. “Enthusiastically, too. Hmm, I might actually have to read this in earnest later. What’s it about?”
“We get married,” Vier explained, and Astarion nearly snorted at the word, “and I decide we should honeymoon in my home city of Menzoberranzan, where we get up to just about everything surface worlders think happens there. First: I wasn’t born in Menzoberranzan. Second: I’ve never been to Menzoberranzan. Third: I would never in my sane mind recommend anyone go to Menzoberranzan unless they desire death, enslavement, or both.”
As Astarion rifled through the pages, he still didn’t feel as though there was anything to get too upset about. It was fairly bog standard, albeit well-written, Drow-based obscenity, with a little vampiric spice mixed in. Perhaps Vier wasn’t thrilled with being written as a raging sex fiend who could outpace a succubus, but surely no one would take the wrong idea of her from this. But then, he found the page where “Vier” had to pass “Astarion” off as her slave in order to get him into the city at all…and he committed to his role deeply, so much that he’s quite happy to be passed around among the matriarchs and–
The chapbook was flung across the room with incredible force. “You know what, darling?” Astarion asked, his affect flat. “I think I get the issue now. What say you and I make a little trip to Waterdeep and see if we can’t pay this Valhalaeria a visit, hmm?”
“Purely friendly, of course,” Vier answered, visions of maces imbued with the power of the sun dancing in her head. “Nothing hostile, nothing untoward. Just a friendly request that she write smut of a more sanctioned kind. Absolutely.”
At that moment, somewhere on the highways and byways of Faerûn, a sickly shudder coursed down Volothamp Geddarm’s spine. Danger was coming.

I know I said a while ago that I wanted to write some of my thoughts on the New Percy Jackson show out, but as time went on, I found myself having less time to actually sit down and watch it. However, now, I have finally finished the show (perhaps more than once, lmao), and I have a lot to share about it! Far more than I originally thought I would, to be honest. Honestly, I spent a couple of days watching everything over again and ended up starting and ending my first embroidery project since the pandemic started, which felt pretty good as it helped me absorb a lot more information as I worked. And, while I would love nothing more than to just word vomit everything out of my brain, I find myself physically incapable of leaving everything out of order now that I’ve had the time to properly think things over (certainly not due to the fact that I’ve been plotting story ideas for the last few weeks and can’t think of leaving anything disorganized right now). Instead of nonsensical paragraphs, I figured I would take things in four separate sections - my opinions on the characters, the castings I hope we get in the future, my favorite quotes, and a small snippet of how I would see things going down if I were to write this AU.
So, without further ado, I’m going to start off strong with…
Tumblr media
My Character Takes:
Right off the bat, I adored Percy (Walker Scobell). I may be biased as I chose Walker as my sort of faceclaim for Bentley, but this child has Percy’s personality to a tee. I knew from watching him act alongside Ryan Reynolds in The Adam Project that he would be perfect not only for Bentley, but also for Percy and, when I finally got to see him as Percy, I knew I was right. From the iconic first line to the final moment of the series, he had me hooked. Though I missed the absolutely iconic “This is a pen!” quote from the movie, I feel like they got pretty much everything right for Percy. So many of his one-liners made me pause to laugh because I wouldn't have heard anything that was said afterward if I hadn’t, but he also has the right amount of seriousness and professionalism in certain scenes to make Percy come to life. I doubt Rick Riordan could have found a better Percy if they tried, and I can’t wait to see him in season 2.
Now, for Percy’s parents, Sally and Poseidon. Sally (Virginia Kull) was brilliant, and her interactions with Percy felt perfectly motherly and sweet while also having a vivid personality all her own. Watching back over the show after seeing it through the first time, I picked up on a lot more subtle hints at her mental struggle as a “single” mother of a demigod (she did remarry, and I’ll touch on that in a moment). I feel like watching it back over sort of gave me the full picture and I love that little touch. Now, Poseidon (Toby Stephens, Dame Maggie Smith’s son) was also incredible. I feel like, although we didn’t see much of Poseidon initially, the way he acted was very telling of his situation (being unable to see or interact with Percy without Zeus’ permission for fear of starting another huge war), and it felt like there was a definite desire and regret that he couldn’t have stuck around for his son (if not for Sally as well).
As for Percy’s stepfather, Gabe Ugliano (Timm Sharp), I feel like they may have tamed him a bit from the book as a way to avoid triggering anybody who grew up in an abusive household, but they still kept him on the despicable side. I always hated him, but I do feel like they could have made him worse. Instead of the bigoted, poker-playing asshole we meet in the books, we get a bit more of an idiot who wastes his money on online poker and sits around all day. I like that they kept his ending the way it was, but I sort of wish it played a bigger role in Sally's story going forward. Who knows; maybe it will in the future, but I wish they delved more into his character being genuinely a disgusting human being rather than just a loser.
Now, even though I don’t want to go too into detail on them because I don’t want to spoil anything in case you care to watch this show later on (highly recommended as there’s no need to read the books to see what’s going on), I want to touch on some of the campers and Percy’s friends. Ironically, I’ll be starting with Clarisse LaRue (Dior Goodjohn). Clarisse is the take-no-shit-and-start-shit daughter of Ares, the god of war, and is also the counselor of his cabin (Cabin 5). She’s very combative, competitive, and aggressive, which we find out is because she wants her dad to favor her despite her being a girl and all his “favorites” being boys. As stated in the show, he doesn’t even really like his kids, but that doesn’t stop her from trying to gain favor. Dior was a great choice for Clarisse, and I have to say, I think she did her great justice. The actor they had in the movies (well, movie as she was only in one despite her character being in more of the books) was good, but she wasn’t nearly as aggressive, feisty, and tough as Dior’s. Honestly, 10/10.
Luke Castellan is one character I couldn’t wait to see come to life, and Charlie Bushnell did an amazing job with him. He is the son of Hermes, the god of messengers, travelers, and thieves, and Luke is, like Clarisse, the head of his cabin (Cabin 11). Luke is one of the best, multi-faceted characters in not only the books, but in this show as well. Though he doesn’t appear in many episodes, I feel as though his character is one we’ll definitely be watching closely as time goes by. Regardless, Charlie did amazing in his portrayal of Luke, and I think he handled everything really well!
I know a lot of people weren’t thrilled when Leah Sava Jeffries was cast as Annabeth Chase (daughter of Athena, the goddess of wisdom and battle strategy - Cabin 6), but I trusted Rick’s choice in casting her as he said he knew she was the best choice for Annabeth. I have to say, he was right; she was incredible! Her interactions with everyone, the subtle ways she showed that she knew more than she was letting on, and her acting overall was great for Annabeth. I love that they included her Yankees cap as well, something I wish they had in the movies. Leah was amazing, Annabeth truly came to life, and I’m very excited to see how everything pans out!
Speaking of pans, we have Grover Underwood, a hopeful searcher for Pan, the god of the wild, satyrs, and folk music. While Grover is not related to Pan, his goal is to become a searcher so that he can follow his family’s legacy of searching for the missing god of the wild. Now, I actually loved the way the movies made Grover, but I think they did pretty well with him in the show as well. There is a certain scene I wish they had kept from the movie, but with how they made Gabe Ugliano in the show, I’m not entirely surprised they took it out. It would have been hilarious, though! I do have to say that Aryan Simhadri did an amazing job and that I was very pleased with his performance overall!
For the Greek gods that we met this season, I want to start off with the now-passed Lance Reddick, who played Zeus, the god of the sky, thunder, lightning, kingship, honor, and justice (Cabin 1). It’s sad that he never was able to watch his character come to life on screen, but he did a pretty great job in the one episode he was in. The looming threat of his presence throughout the episodes was a very effective build-up to actually meeting him in the end. He was a good choice for Zeus and, while I’m upset he won’t be in any future seasons, his acting was great. I’m sure they’ll find someone to do him good justice in the future, but those will be big shoes to fill as far as the rest of the cast will be concerned, I’m sure.
As I’ve already touched on Poseidon, I’m going to skip over to Hephaestus, the god of fire, forges, sculpture, metalworking, stone masonry, carpenters, technology, artisans, and volcanoes (Cabin 9). Hephaestus is pretty much an outsider from the Olympian family as he doesn’t really bother with the drama of Olympus, and Timothy Omudson does a great job of showing this in his simplistic, yet interesting approach. I found myself wanting to sit and talk with him - get his take on everything, in a way. Unlike some of the other gods we hear about/meet, he seems to think fairly reasonably and is pretty sympathetic, something I really liked about this portrayal of Hephaestus.
Ares is next on my list and, while I was never a huge fan of the character as the Greek myth was originally labelled as a protector of mistreated women and this version Ares was just an asshole, I feel like Adam Copeland made me like him. The first time I watched the episode we meet him in, I just sat there laughing at his personality, but the second time around, I had to wonder how on earth I found myself genuinely sort of enjoying watching him. Though I’m still not big on him overall, as his treatment of his own children is pretty shit, I can’t say that I didn’t enjoy seeing him. Also, when he talked about different wars in the diner, it felt like I was listening to my dad in history class all over again, and I kind of enjoyed that. Anyway, he was chaotic and crazy, but he has great taste in motorcycles, and I actually enjoyed him overall. Adam Copeland did a great job not making me fully hate him.
Finally, I want to talk about Hermes, who was played by none other than Lin-Manuel Miranda. When I saw that he was on the cast list, my immediate thought was Apollo, but I ended up loving him as Hermes. I wish we had seen more of him, but honestly, that’s just my Hamilton brain screeching to be let out, as I know he wasn’t supposed to be in many, if any, of the episodes this season because they were following the books. Honestly, though, Lin was incredible, Hermes was incredible, and I hope we see more of him going forward!
Tumblr media
Future Castings:
Firstly, I want to say that my biggest hope is to see Sam Claflin as Apollo! His personality in The Hunger Games was all I needed to see, honestly. He would be perfect for Apollo, and I hope that’s who we get, but if not, I’ll just have to trust the process.
Tumblr media
My top pick for Thalia Grace (and a semi-popular one I’ve seen floating around) is Momona Tamada.
Tumblr media
I could see Zoë Saldaña, Tessa Thompson, or Danai Gurira as Athena. I don’t have a solid choice, but I could see them working really well as they have to play Annabeth’s mom, and they all could pull that off pretty well.
Tumblr media
For Aphrodite, I have a variety of ideas. Gemma Chan could be pretty good, but so could Florence Pugh, Elizabeth Olsen, or Indya Moore. I feel like there are so many ways they could pull it off, but regardless of who they choose, I’m sure it’ll be great. (There is no official artwork for her, so I’m using the picture from Rick Riordan’s website, but she is known to change her appearance as she pleases)
Tumblr media
One character I’m sure we won't see for a while, but I’d still enjoy, would be either Sadie Sink or Erin Kellyman for Rachel Elizabeth Dare. I doubt either actress will end up being chosen, as it’ll probably be a while before we get to season 3, but they were my top choices for her.
Tumblr media
Now, I don’t have many ideas for anyone else, but I’m sure the cast will be amazing no matter what.
Tumblr media
Quotes:
I had a lot of quotes from the show that I absolutely loved, but I forgot to write down which episodes they came from as I wrote more in the second time around and they got a bit jumbled on paper. I remember who said most of them and I was originally going to write that in as well, but I think I could use some of them later on, so I’ll just leave them nameless for now. Some of them, you can tell who could be part of the conversation if you pay attention to the names mentioned, but others are up in the air. Besides, the quotes alone are great, in my book. The different formats symbolize different people talking, as I couldn’t figure out a better way in the larger conversation points, but the ones where there’s only one person are just plain text.
--
“She fought valiantly, and she met a hero's fate.”
“She met a pinecone's fate.”
--
“So you're not a monster, what are you then?”
“A survivor.”
--
“It's not here.”
“We know. Yeah, glory's fine. Revenge is more fun.”
--
“Why is there half a goat in your pants?”
“Oh, it's... Oh! Oh, boy, she didn't tell you about... You didn't tell him about me?”
“You're early.”
“So the important thing is not to panic.”
--
“Look, this is a bad idea. They will see this as impertinent.”
“I am impertinent.”
--
“Not everyone who looks like a hero is a hero, and not everyone who looks like a monster is a monster.”
--
“He was a god.”
“You fell in love with God? Like Jesus?”
--
“I want him to know who he is before your family tries to tell him who they want him to be. He is better than that. He has better things in him than that.”
--
“This is Percy Jackson.”
“Yeah, Grover, I heard him the first time.”
“But did you?”
--
“It was your father who warned me to stay away. Said it was awful watching you struggle and feel powerless to stop it. But that sometimes… that’s what parenting is.”
--
“Are you stalking me, Annabeth?”
*shrugs* “Yes.”
--
“Look, I get that Nancy has issues, I’m just getting tired of her taking them out on me. I feel like… maybe it’s time to do something about it.”
“You could make an appointment to see Mr. Kane. He’s really good at talking-”
“I was thinking more like shoving Nancy in the nearest dumpster.”
“Oh.”
--
“I have a job!”
“Losing at imaginary poker?”
--
“Give me a second, I’m just starting a fight on Twitter.”
--
“I warned you, if you're not careful, you'll find out who I am.”
--
“Poseidon has ignored me my entire life.”
“You are his son!”
“I am Sally Jackson’s son!”
--
“Two things you never wanna be are small and scary at the same time. Things that are small and scary...get squished.”
--
“So, do we have a deal, or am I killing all three of you so I can eat in peace?”
“Ok.”
“Great!”
--
“Do you know what that feels like? To be so close to someone you love, knowing neither of you has any choice but to keep hurting each other?”
--
“I’m gonna kill him.”
“I knew I was gonna like you.”
--
“Is there a Greek god of disappointment? Maybe someone should ask him if he’s missing a kid.”
--
“This thing, Zeus's master bolt, we need to get it back, right?”
“Yes.”
“And it's gonna be hard to get, yes?”
“Extraordinarily.”
“And if the mission required someone to push me down a flight of stairs for it to succeed... you'd want someone who won't hesitate when they do it.”
--
“He isn’t here. My father, he just… didn’t show. I mean, ignoring me is one thing, but he doesn’t get to ignore you. I’m gonna make him come down here. I’m gonna make him see me. I’m gonna make him see us both.”
--
“No one comes ba~ack.”
“Dude! Don't make me come back out there!”
--
“You really don’t want the bolt?”
“Why would I want that?”
“To start a war between your brothers.”
“Why would I want that?!”
“Jealousy!”
“I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but it’s all candy canes and rainbows down here. I don’t really do jealous.”
--
“Take your victory. Just spare my son.”
--
“Obedience doesn’t come naturally to you, does it?”
“No… sir.”
“I must take some of the blame, I suppose. The sea does not like to be restrained.”
--
“Ares is a moron. Perhaps you noticed?”

AU Idea:
I know I've said before that I didn't have much of an idea of what I'd write if I did this AU, but I think watching the books come to life a bit has altered that. I've gone through some of the books again and sort of figured out what I would want to see happen, so I figured I would put it all out here while I'm at it. Some things in my original post have changed, such as their parents, but I also have a basic timeline down as well. I feel like the vibes would be very similar to that of Camp Wanamaker as I plan on keeping things mostly around the camp at first, but there will be some big exploration further down the road as I develop an actual storyline. I do plan on going more in-depth on topics that haven't been brought up in the show/movies as I figure that would make it easier not just for me, but also for you. I have a lot of ideas, but I'll try to work it down to the first couple of chapter ideas as I haven't gone through the whole story's plot yet.
For starters, I think I would have Royce be the new kid at camp - an almost sixteen-year-old who was brought to camp by an adult demigod who rescued him from a monster on a field trip (Butchy, son of Zeus). He's pushed head-first into camp activities, and soon finds himself getting stalked by a pair of younger demigods who have been at camp for some time and have already been claimed (Bentley, son of Apollo, and Kona, daughter of Iris). The kids eventually corner him outside the Unclaimed Child portion of the Hermes cabin (where he'll reside until his godly parent claims him) and encourage him to try different cabins until he finds a good fit. Despite claiming the whole thing is nothing but a dream he'll eventually wake up from, Royce allows the pair to drag him around, starting from the top and working his way down.
Zeus, Hera, and Poseidon's cabins are all quickly dismissed, but before he can get much further, things at camp slow to a stop as the Hunters of Artemis arrive, having been told to stay at camp until the return of their leader and goddess, Artemis. Kona is quick to tail the Hunters, trying her hardest to find acceptance within the female-only group while some others stray to their original cabins to visit their former siblings. Upon asking why the Hunters seem to be a group of relatively young girls, Bentley brings Royce to his older half-brother Miles (head counselor of Apollo's cabin) who explains that the Hunters are maidens (which can be human, god, demigod, or nymph) who have sworn loyalty to the maiden goddess Artemis. They reject love for as long as they live and, in return, gain eternal youth and semi-immortality as long as they don't break their vows, or are slain in battle. There are some who leave if they fall in love, but very few do.
Not long after, the campers and Hunters are pushed into a game of rather brutal game of Capture the Flag, where Royce encounters a small group of Hunters who take pity on him as the new kid, a tall brunette girl with a silver circlet on her head giving him a hand up when the others in her group leave the area (Vivien, Hunter of Artemis and daughter of Hecate, goddess of magic, crossroads, necromancy, and the night). During dinner that night, Royce meets her at the fire as he puts in an offering to his still unknown parent and asks the girl some questions, trading names and finding out her previous cabin before she suggests he not push his luck befriending any of the hunters as they won't be around for long, and heads back to her table, leaving him more than a little intrigued.
I do have a bit more written out, but for now, I'm going to keep it there. However, I'm still going to show some of the parental changes I've made since my last post about this idea. There are only three, but they're there. I also have some plans to add in some of my other characters that I don't write as much, if at all, but they'll come in later on as I haven't quite decided where to put them.
Kona has gone from the daughter of Poseidon to the daughter of Iris (goddess of the Rainbow and messenger of the gods). I changed this because, although I love the idea of Kona just railing people with water when they do stupid stuff, the thought of her being this artsy, hippie-esque little girl who habitually makes friendship bracelets for new campers, who enjoys going around scaring people by turning the world black-and-white or momentarily blinding them with sunbeams. It's also known that children of Iris are great with art/creativity and have a strong connection with pegasi, so I can just picture her trying to use paint or something to give each of the pegasi cutie marks like in My Little Pony or giving them dyed manes/tails.
Vivien has a change of pace as well, going from the daughter of Athena to the daughter of Hecate and a Hunter of Artemis. The Hunter part is a relatively big plot point in the story as, like I said, they give up love in favor of aiding with the Hunt. However, I'll dive into that when I write the story. For now, I'll focus on the Hecate part. Hecate is the goddess of magic, as I've said before, and where Vivien is a collector of crystals in every universe and is great with magic in my Hocus Pocus AU, I feel it's a great fit. Another thing nudging me toward this is the idea that Hecate can be a tough parent, and her children must prove their worth and study hard to master their skills in magic. I feel like Vivien's already established, rocky relationship with her mom in my other stories would come into play in this as well, perhaps playing a role in her decision to become a Hunter.
Another change that I didn't mention in the snippet above was Mick. Mick was originally the daughter of Hephaestus, but I've since changed that as I feel it makes more sense in the way I've fixed it. Now, she is the Roman descendant (otherwise known as a legacy) of Minerva (Athena's counterpart) and Vulcan (Hephaestus' counterpart). Her mother, Mack, was the daughter of Minerva, and her father, Brady, was the grandson of Vulcan. This means that Mick is not at Camp Half-Blood in New York (the camp for the children of Greek gods), but at Camp Jupiter in California (the camp for the descendants of Roman gods), something I feel suits her fairly well and gives her a deeper storyline with not only Butchy, but also her usual friends.

Final notes:
Now, in case you haven’t noticed, I adored this show as a whole! One of my nephews who hasn’t read the books, finally had the chance to watch it, and loved it nearly as much as I did, which is pretty telling. I love that even people who haven’t had an interest/read the books, are loving this show. It’s just great! I have to say, the show is pretty good at explaining everything as they go and making everything feel as though it’s flowing properly. As if it weren’t obvious by now, I highly recommend watching the first season! It’s a great show overall, everything felt realistic, and it gave me a lot of ideas for the future (which, as you can probably tell, might include a Percy Jackson AU of some kind). Anyway, I loved it and plan on going back to rewatch it more as time goes by, but for now, I’m going to end my ramblings and go back to my little one-off story that I haven’t touched in what feels like forever!

Drarry fashion sense head canons?
ohhh this is such a good one, let me think!!
okay disclaimer is that i think i struggle with describing clothes/often have to go back and add descriptions of them in when i write, but i do like to think about what they'd like to wear!!
i feel like the books vs movies vs shitty word-building makes this both complicated but also like less constrictive. canon is so spotty about magical vs muggle dressing conventions (why are weasley jumpers such a thing if wizards/witches wear robes all the time?? i've assumed it's a generational thing but like, molly knits the jumpers so ?? whatever) so i've tried to sort this out in my head a bit: adult magical folks in adult society generally wear robes out and about; harry's generation is less stringent about it/generally more knowledgable about muggle clothes, but it's still the most popular fashion.
so i pretty much always headcanon draco in robes unless he has a specific reason to be in the muggle world, and then he'll change. he'll wear simple clothes not really meant to be shown off under the robes, unless it's cold and he layers. my brain likes to dress draco in blue a lot, and i tend to picture/describe him as a cool winter, which gives a broad blue spectrum to pick from, plus a lot of jewel tones and bright, cool colors.
his clothes usually have a lot of distinctive, fussy details: fine buttons, embroidery, quality tailoring, belts, a set of winter outerwear that matches, etc. they're the kinds of details that normally go right over harry's head except when it's draco 😌
because harry is definitely more basic when it comes to fashion. he does really like buying his own clothes, relishing getting to choose what to wear about years of castoffs, but never being allowed to choose things means he never really developed taste, so sometimes he gets overwhelmed by choices. he also doesn't like to follow fashion conventions; robes still sometimes feel like a costume to him and he definitely tends towards mugglewear by default, but will wear robes in deference to draco. sometimes he'll wear robes open over muggle clothes as a compromise.
his color palette (clear winter, as i tend to describe him, with warm skin tone, bright eyes, black hair and high contrast between features) is actually similar to draco's, which i imagine draco having a lot of fun with. jewel tones are good on him, too, plus icy colors. draco loves dressing harry way more than harry loves dressing himself, and harry feels so loved and cared for whenever he wears something draco picked out for him.
send me drarry tropes and i’ll respond with five related headcanons!!

I am doing very minor revisions of Daemon’s Handbook (mostly formatting and continuity errors), and I wanted to do some behind-the-scenes commentary before too much time passes and I forget my original thoughts. Here’s Chapter 7!
(Note that these commentaries aren’t canon to the verse until/unless the author writes them into the series. I might change my mind on a few points later, but these are the thoughts I had while writing.)
If I had to pick a favorite chapter to write, it’s this one. It’s the first post-time skip chapter, so we get to behold all the children (now young adults) in full horny mood.
Also, Alyssa develops a personality, and BOY is it a personality. I originally planned to make her a female version of Aegon III, who is very quiet, but it occurred to me that a hellion would be more fun (and torturous for Daemon, which is the real goal in this fic).
Aegon and Aemond are supposed to return directly to King’s Landing and wait with their family to receive the Dragonstone party, but Aegon decided he couldn’t wait to see Jace again and Aemond only required mild convincing to go along. And yes, the boys took a bath first in some river so they look nice and groomed~
One of Jace’s biggest character quirks is anxiety. She has ALL the anxiety. Comes with being an eldest sibling and second in line for the throne. I don’t consider her shallow, but she perceives her appearance as an important part of her political and social toolkit because the society they live in puts a lot of stock in appearances, especially women’s. So she’s finicky about looking the right part for every occasion. (Also she wants to look nice for her husband whom she hasn’t seen in three years, nothing wrong with that.)
I made Luce a knitter, partly because I’m a knitter and I like incorporating my interests, and partly because I wanted to give her a textile craft that wasn’t embroidery. I hope I’m not being too biased when I say that in this era, knitted products (like socks) are more useful than embroidered products (like fancy handkerchiefs). The practical value of knitting, and it being an acceptable craft for ladies even if it’s not as popular as embroidery, seemed fitting for Luce, who isn’t super conventional but also not a complete rebel. I also really like the imagery of her sending flowery socks to the Stepstones for Aegon and Aemond and Grandpa Corlys to wear.
Daemon is fit for his age, but he’s in his 40s and he’s got a lot of old battle wounds, so chasing around toddlers is fairly strenuous. Also, toddlers are FAST. Alyssa is closer to three than two, and she’s spent her entire life trying to keep up with her older sisters, so she’s got a fairly good sense of balance and isn’t stumbling around as much.
“Pretty girl” is 100% Aegon’s pet name for Jace, and I’m using it gratuitously in one of the sequel fics, which is Jace and Aegon-centric. (I’ll have an update soon on what I’m writing next, but I’ve decided to break down the epic longfic idea into multiple, more manageable mid-length fics.)
Aemond thinks Alyssa is spooked by his eyepatch and scar at first, but she’s actually falling in love at first sight. 😂 She’s got heterochromia so she probably *likes* that his eyes aren’t symmetrical either.
Aegon and Aemond are no longer afraid of Daemon! They’ve seen a lot of shit in the Stepstones, so their middle-aged uncle seems like less of a big deal now. Poor Daemon.
Aegon and Aemond are currently 18 and 16, so I made their stomachs black holes like most teenaged boys. They also have been eating a lot of rations at the Stepstones, even as royal princes, so a “plain” meal at Dragonstone seems awesome.
I have nothing to say about the melons, except that I’m very sorry for Lucera 🥲
Idk why but there’s something about Jace being very dutiful and proper that attracts messy rebels like Aegon and Baela. Opposites attracting, maybe? Kinda like how Luce is on the wilder side but Aemond is super put-together. I’ve thought about a crackish scenario where Viserys messes things up (as usual) and betroths Jace/Aemond and Luce/Aegon. I think Jace and Aemond would get bored with each other while Luce and Aegon might accidentally kill each other.
Jace and Aegon know their siblings are being stupid about their feelings for each other. Jace tries not to meddle (she doesn’t like it when Daemon meddles so she resists the urge), and Aegon makes fun of Aemond in the half-hearted hope it’ll goad Aemond into doing something.
I like to imagine that Luce eventually invents double-entry accounting in this universe. I also think she’s a big fan of the abacus, which is a more visual way of keeping track of numbers. She also likes charts and graphs in general.
The three dragonglass daggers that Luce orders from the blacksmith are for her, Jace, and Joff. (Luce loves all her sisters, but she has a special place in her heart for the three of them who are full-blooded sisters.) Purple for Jace (royal color for the future queen), green for Luce (like the sea and Velaryon colors), red for Joff (Targaryen color, nice and bloody). She isn’t expecting her sisters to use them as weapons; she wanted to make a gesture before Jace’s official wedding, since it marks a huge change in their lives.
I keep describing Luce and Aemond’s relationship in this fic as Pride and Prejudice-esque, and I stand by it. Miscommunication, ego issues, awkward flirting, a failed first proposal. One commenter described Daemon as the anti-Mrs Bennet, trying his best NOT to let the girls marry. 😂 And if we keep the analogy going, Clement Celtigar is Mr Collins while Otto is the closest thing we have to Lady Catherine de Bourgh.
I established in the beginning that Daemon is very bad with feelings. This scene where he tries to comfort Baela is part of his character arc and emotional growth, but he stumbles a few times more before the end of the fic.
I am very pleased that so many readers pinpointed Joff/Daeron as black cat and golden retriever energy, because I was definitely going for that. Daeron spews a lot of word vomit in his one line of dialogue, but you might notice he mentions “I got that thing you really wanted.” See the final scene in Chapter 11 for “that thing.” 👀
Jace is making PR a priority in her reign (and before her reign). She’s observed how loyal the Dragonstone smallfolk are to the Targaryens and wants to spread that loyalty to the realm’s smallfolk in general. This is why she and Aegon do the flight into the city, and why she has her Princess Diana moment on the way to the wedding.

Hey buddy!!! I have a few embroidery hoops, needles and thread, but aside from YouTube, nobody I know nearby does it often enough to give firsthand experience. I embroidered a thatch of lavender and a little bee on one of my battlejacket pockets, but it was with regular thread and a regular needle. Can you offer any insight when it comes to the actual hoops themselves, what material works best, any insider tips?
So I’m not a regular embroiderer because it hurts my hands really easy, but I AM a moron who does everything the hard way first so I do have some tips:
If you’re using regular thread, it will help the design if you a) use an embroidery needle [I think you can get them separate from other sewing supplies for like a buck or two, and I recommend getting some kind of needle polisher as well bc then it will last 538463936472 years] and double up the thread 2-3 times to bulk it up and 2) use a smaaaalll bit of glue mixed with water [or spit, I’ve done that too] to twist together the threads along their length. It just helps them go through smoother and lay flatter with less overall fiddling, and if you use School glue or spit it will wash out 👍
If you’re using bulk dollar store quality embroidery thread, you have to be *gentle as fuck* with it while youre working the design. So, work patiently in small sections and try not to yank it too much, just generally be aware that its not gonna stand much abuse until it’s actually stitched in. Also, it’s totally possible to take a pulled end, tie more on, and keep on a-truckin - just make sure you pull a few previous stitches to get to a more sturdy bit, and tie it real close so you’re not trying to pull the knot thru. It’s strength when pulled on leaves something to be desired, but it IS infinitely cheaper than buying every color ever individually for a few bucks each, so pick your poison on that one. If you wanna use good thread basically you need to have planning skills and the patience to wait till stores are open to drive out and go get shit, neither of which I have :D
As for hoops, they are So, So helpful oh my god. You can use them for darning, you can use them for embroidery, you can use them for cross-stitch, you can use scrap fabric to make patches, you can even use them to hold fabric taut to hand-stitch on patches if you need to.
Basically, If you need fabric to stay where the fuck you put it while you work, an embroidery hoop is a godsend. Most are also pretty adjustable - though you may have trouble using them with really really thick or stiff fabrics like fur or denim seams. in those cases you can always use scrap fabric to embroider your design, and then iron on or sew on your new patch.
In order to use one, you just need a bit of fabric that can reach to every curve of the hoop. you place your inner hoop under the fabric, plop your untightened outer hoop over it, and then tighten it up. in order to make the fabric taut, you can leave the hoop a liiiitle loose, and then pull at the fabric till it feels kind of like a drum. then tighten the outer hoop as far as it'll go :D Once youve done that, youre good to go.
I'd advise sketching your design in chalk/charcoal/pencil/washable marker before starting, and if you feel like it you can also mark out a grid pattern of dots using a ruler to keep your stitches the same length, but thats not super necessary.
As for fabrics that work best for embroidery, tight-woven felt is a nice backing for patches but you will struggle to get a clear sketch of your design. Cotton is gonna be easiest to use for a sketch, but its gonna be flimsier. If you can layer both inside the hoop, that would probably work out pretty well, tbh. I wouldnt use stretchy fabrics if you can help it- the resulting patch will likely shrink and the fabric itself is going to be difficult to work with especially if you arent using more expensive thread or a sharp, polished needle.
TLDR: Bulk up your normal thread and smooth it with watery glue, use an embroidery needle and make sure it stays polished, embroidery hoops are lovely, make any threadwork easier, and work best on non-stretchy fabric like denim, cotton, non-spandex poly blend, plastic leather, and probably natural leather if its thin enough.

While I try to gather my though, cuz as usual there are a lot of them, have this free invention to ramble about the clothes at the coronation because the paragraph length doubled and I could tell you had so much fun with that. I’m sure you have a ton of reference pictures.
-🌲
oh spruce you are too good to me. yes, I have plenty of reference pictures and i'm gonna use this ask as my master post for the ones I have references of! I'll also be kind to my followers and put it under a read more (also, look at my notes under each one because for most of them the colors are often switched around in the fic compared to the reference picture)
the stars and their children chapter 29 coronation outfit references
Wilbur
Tumblr media
I don't have a reference for the front of his coat, but the back looks pretty much exactly like this and is the same length as this too
Tumblr media
this is mostly accurate to the circlet wilbur wears, except the black gems are a little longer and thinner to make them look more like feathers rather than leaves
Niki
Tumblr media
Niki's gown is very similar to this, except it's white instead of black, the shoulder pieces are gold and not silver, and the shoulder pieces are shaped like stars instead of flowers.
Tumblr media
the headpiece I described niki wearing is pretty much exactly this with the way it wraps around her head in front of her braids, except it's white again instead of black with the same gold detailing
Tommy
I don't have a good reference photo for his cloak. Just know that it's a very oversized and thick cloak that falls all the way to the ground. it's white with gold and silver embroidery designed to look like swirling winds
however I do have a reference for the crown
Tumblr media
this is pretty much what I imagine the eldingvegr crown to look like. it's not really a crown at all, it's more of a headband with these sunrays shooting out from it
Schlatt
Tumblr media
look I just thought it was funny okay. fragrance man vibes and all. he's also got a lot of silver and steel jewerly on (rings, necklaces) and some thin chains decorating his outfit as well
Aimsey
Tumblr media
pretty much this exactly except the front is less of a v-neck and more buttoned up to their neck, and also instead of black it's in red
Tina
Tumblr media
this exact dress but it's black instead of white. I saw this and just immediately knew it had to be tina's outfit it's so pretty
also idk if i posted it before because she wore this during the summit as well but the headpiece tina wears is this
Tumblr media
Karl
Tumblr media
similar to his og summit fit, basically this but it's black and goes down to his ankles. also he's got a golden circlet on that's kind of lifted above his head to look like a halo almost
Techno
Tumblr media
basically this coat except it's pale blue instead of red, and the embroidery is silver and a bit more delicate than this
Phil
Tumblr media
this is what I imagine the zephys iv crown phil is wearing to look like! except it's a bit more sharp and jagged than this one.
I'm so sorry though I do not have any references for phil's actual coronation outfit for the life of me. just go reread the description of his fit I gave in the chapter and do your best I'm not super nitpicky about it I promise
okay I think that's all the ones I have references for?? if I find any more I'll probably try to add them here. I hope you like what I picked!! I LOVED getting to find all the fashion for the coronation. the space royalty aesthetic stars has is just sooooo good for outfits it's this super specific vibe that's not full royalty but not full sci fi either and idk how to describe it but I know exactly what it is when I see it and I just have so much fun with it

Hey! I love you blog. It's inspired me to get back into sewing, something i did frequently as a child. Unfortunately, that was all on my mom's machine, and I'm now looking down the problem of buying myself something beginner friendly that will be able to scale with me a bit as I level back up.
You're easily the person in my circles who's got the best read on sewing machines. Would you have any specific suggestions for machines to look at and put on a holiday wish list sort of thing?
Thanks no matter what, and best wishes
I have way too much to say about sewing machines. Generally, when helping someone pick a sewing machine, there's a few things that limit the conversation. First of all, I generally have them there, and we're only looking at machines that my store sells. We also have information like price point, how often it's being used, where its being stored, and how often it's transported to another location. We can find out what their feelings are about different brands and what accessories they want to get. Usually, after roughly 15 minutes, we have several models to choose from, where my customer can go into the fine details of different models within a similar price point.
I don't have any of that here, so I've now written three different versions of this post, all of which are very long and not particularly useful.
So here goes for round 4) Part a, the best machine for you is the one that allows you to make the things you want to make. The best way to make the things you want to make is to find a machine that allows you to do the things you most often do without frustration.
The best machine to grow into as one who sews (side note: it's really annoying that sewer and sewer are spelled the same) is one that will still be working very well after using it for several years. There's a whole lot of advice out there and on this blog about buying a used machine, but with a lot of old machines you just don't have a way of knowing that they won't cascade on you and have one part fail after another. You also can't tell if that will happen with most mass market Singer and Brother machines, so. I'd avoid all of them.
It's a common misconception that expensive machines are harder to use. After a certain price point, some of the expense of creating the machine is put into making sure that the machine feels effortless to use. As an example, my sewing/embroidery combo machine doesn't need to have the sewing tension set, because instead of telling the machine what tension to use, I tell it what fabric and technique I'm working with. It then sets the tension for the correct stitch. This is undeniably more complex than a wheel with numbers on it, but is much less effort to actually think about. Higher-end machines will allow you to customize a large portion of the machine, so that if you mainly use the same eight stitches, they're present and easy to find from your home screen. Less expensive computerized machines, where the maker shoved every stitch they could find into the machine to make it more attractive on the store shelf, often are very difficult to select a stitch with. You're frequently sorting through a huge number of unnecessary stitches to find basic things like your tricot stitch. Basically, if you give Brother $15,000 for a machine and it's hard to use, they really failed in their job. A good machine will make the everyday features very easy to use and front and center, and the less frequently used features will be present and out of the way until you need them.
In some ways, you can tell how long of a life a machine is expected to have by how willing companies are to stand behind it. In addition to checking the manufacturer's warranty, see if any of your nearby dealers who sell it are willing to sell an extended warranty or a protection/replacement plan for it. For example, at my old job, we'd sell protection plans for all of our machines except Singer machines. Singer machines broke too often for us to not lose money on a service contract, as the cost of service and parts was invariably greater than the cost of the contract. Yes, most machines have 10 years warrantied on manufacturer defects, but I've seen Singer claim that a problem wasn't a manufacturer defect because it only showed up after 15 hours of sewing, so clearly it was the customer's fault. There's no real effective recourse if the brand decides to do that, so see if anyone who isn't the brand is willing to put their name on the line to defend the machine.
Also, a lot of the entry level machines are internet models, meaning that dealerships are allowed to sell them at Minimum Advertised Price over the internet. Before buying a machine, find a dealer near you and call them to ask how satisfied people are with the machine and how often it's returned. Also, if you're near the dealership, many dealerships can offer you a lower than MAP price if you call or visit the store. They're not allowed to advertise the price lower than MAP (hence the name), but they're allowed to sell it for less. It's a weird situation but it's how dealerships work. So yeah, if it's a real store and you call to ask about a machine you might buy through their site, you'll often find someone willing to help you. (If someone really helps you over the phone, it's also not rude to ask if they will get credit for the sale since they helped you so much. This costs you nothing to ask and sometimes means the salesperson can get commission on the sale, so it's a free way to give a helpful person some money).
Almost all online sewing tutorials can be followed using the cheapest machine that my store sells. I also went through all of costume design school only using features that were in a basic computerized model. Having a really high-end sewing machine is not the norm and so most books don't expect it. Also, many books about sewing were written many years before really modern computerized machines existed.
A good machine for growing into is one where you have a good balance between being wide-throat and being portable. The more space you have to the right of the needle (the throat), the more easily you can fit bigger projects. However, the more space you have to the right of the needle, the bigger your machine needs to be. For someone with no specialty sewing space, the biggest machine I see that's popular is the Baby Lock Lyric (or Lyric-sized machines like the Soprano or Brilliant, or the Brother variants that are like 900qsomething; i'm super bad at remembering Brother machine names). Machines larger than that often don't get used just because clearing a space on your kitchen table is pretty tough. So that max size is those bbylock/bro machines, the Viking 10" throat like the sapphires and topaz, Janome Skyline series, and Bernina 500 series. There's a lot of machines smaller than those that could also be good grow-into machines, but that's my personal opinion for the max size.
You also will need to decide on some features that might be important. Embroidery (in a hoop) is a big one, but decorative stitching (no hoop) is another. If you're going to be doing a lot of decorative stitching and fonts, you will get more flexibility out of a side-motion feed. If no side-motion feed, a 9mm zigzag would be nice. If you do more utility sewing, a nice range of attachments that you can afford would be a good thing. These would be things like feet and binders.
If you want embroidery, and you're planning it for a grow-in machine, try to get a hoop larger than 5x7. Many premade designs need a hoop a step above a 5x7. If you're getting into embroidery, and you want to make your own designs, you'll also need to budget for software.
If you're on a budget more accessible to the average person, and aren't looking to spend over $700 on a machine, here's what I recommend looking for:
If it's a mechanical machine, how long has the model been around, and how many are still around today? This can be tough, because models can be renamed while still being the exact same machine. Entry level Babylocks and Bernettes, as well as some Vikings, are often made by Janome. This means a machine model might be traded between some brands. My best example of this is the Bbylock Zeal, which used to be the Molly, and was a Janome before that. If it keeps being used, it's probably a good model.
Sew on it if at all possible. See how it feels to use all the features.
Check which brands offer the same features, and what other brands are offering at the same price point. Janome has their own version of the Bernette B37 that doesn't have the Bernette housing, and it sometimes is $100 cheaper or more expensive.
Brother and Baby Lock have machines made in the same factories. If you like a machine, check to see if there's a comparable match in the other brand. They'll often be the same price but might be bundled with different accessories. Personally, if it's a Brother that doesn't have a Baby Lock equivalent, I'd really check reviews before buying.
If you're going to grow into it, see how easy it is to do buttonholes. You'll probably want to do them in the future. Not only how easy it is to do one, but to do several identical ones.
If you're talking to a salesperson, tell them you're looking to grow into it. Depending on your business, they can sometimes offer different kinds of deals for that. For example, if I'm selling something that comes with a bundle, I can see if I can substitute free thread, which will be used up in the next 2 years, with forged scissors that can be sharpened and last you 10 years. We can't always make huge financial changes, but telling us what you're looking for can allow us to make what changes we can to help it suit your needs. Sometimes people don't want to tell us everything about what they want because they think it'll be a sign of weakness that we'll use to rip you off. The fact is that in most sales, the customer will find the machine that they want, and all we did was allow them to see the features they need. The customer knows what they want and will buy what they want. We don't need to do skeevy tricks to force them into a machine they don't want. Give us that information. We're here to help.
If you have a <$700 budget and you need a computerized machine, the Janome i forgot the numbers but I think it's the one above the 3100QDCT is a pretty good entry level one. If you're quilting then the Pfaff Passport with the built in walking foot is great. If you're going mechanical to save money, the Baby Lock Zeal is a really good amount of features for hte price point, and I think is one of the best values out there. Bernina, Viking, and Pfaff usually use nonstandard presser feet, so remember that if you want to use specialty attachments in the future.
Larger budget and the Bernette 70 series is nice, especially if you want to later upgrade to a Bernina 400-700 series since the user interface is the same. Baby Lock you can't go wrong with the Lyric, Brother has the 3600something that's similar to the BBlyock Vesta if you want embroidery. I have a Viking Topaz 50 that I'm very fond of.
Anyway, if you want to narrow that very large $200-$4000 price range down, throw in some more things you sew and a vague price point, and I can get even more specific.

OK SO
technically this is currently two vaguely different ideas, and ill probably only make one in the foreseeable future bUT
waistcoat !!! or pinafore !!!!! (technically three options because im unsure if id go tailored waistcoat or an almost corset style one)
my goal in this project would be to fill in some gaps in my wardrobe, so im thinking black (obviously honestly, i only wear black) and quite plain, but maybe with some embroidery or cording or something, something subtle to add some texture and detail, but still fit in with any outfit i might make.
im split which way yet!
ive wanted to make a waistcoat for a while, but i guess im a little worried that i wouldnt wear it so much? i tend to dress very femme and very. like fluffy? flouncy? lace and flare and delicate fabrics and im not sure a waistcoat would fit into that? but i do really want to make one, i think itd be so fun! i think i would learn a lot of techniques even from a simple waistcoat, pockets & tailoring and buttons (for real this time) (OH i could use some of the buttons i rejected for the black coat) i plan to add boning to it either way, but i also this a corset style waistcoat could be real cool! not like the kind of things that come up when you look up corset waistcoat, but like, a lacing back and more structured pattern cutting? this one would require some development to see through but.... fun!!! i also have some scrap fabric (brown) from a skirt ive been wanting to turn into a waistcoat- it wouldnt work for this specific project but depending on which way you spin it, it could be a practice run at this project (already having coat 'wearable mockup' flashbacks) or it could be a downside, having two similar garments in my wardrobe
part of me feels like making a pinafore is kind of a cop out- its a far simpler project, and i have a preeetty similar project in the pipelines (though in a completely different aesthetic- heres the inspo for that one), and a lot of my other ideas are similar to a lolita jsk. but also i want jsk. i want to make some for myself some day sooo... i think id would probably get more wear out of a pinafore- but thats just in my head (i wouldnt have to match blacks). i probably wouldnt be learning much new with this one, but it would be a much quicker project! less likely to get stuck in the middle of it because i run out of motivation. i feel like i havent said much pro pinafore but wearability is Super important to me! i have a terrible habit of picking projects that are fun and interesting and then are not actually something i really wear. sometimes an easy project is really good- i like to try and learn things with every project but sometimes i back myself into a corner with things i dont know.
decisions!!!!! i cant make them :(
as i mentioned earlier, this isnt in the immediate pipeline- i still want to finish all my current projects first, i dont think i have any fabrics that'd work for these and im trying to not buying anything right now, and really i shouuuuld make things ive already planned + bought things for. but i think itd fill in some areas of my wardrobe so i might more it before some other things....
below the cut is some very initial inspo, i ripped it all from pinterest (thats basically how i start any sewing project plan fhdbdn)
if youre interested on the brain tangent it was: (start a little unclear but i was thinking about izzy) > izzys sleeves. me too i love a shirt with puffy sleeves > i could make IZZYS shirt (this one is still on the cards btw) > thinking about my wardrobe in general i guess > i own a lot of white puffy shirts but i dont wear them, i tend to wear black things > what might make me wear them short of dyeing them? i love these shirts but theyre too. white for me. maybe something i can wear over them > waistcoat.... i want a waistcoat.... ( i think its hilarious this tangent that started with izzy + ended with waistcoat never went near izzy's waistcoat )

Working With Dragons: Talisman of Invitation
I’ll be honest, I don’t even remember where I got the inspiration for this from. What I do know is that I was young (20 years ago, actually), eyeball deep in dragon work and magic, and wanted a cool magical decoration in my room that was *special*.
What this was, was something to set down an intention or declaration for the space that was perpetual. In this particular case, I was basically putting up a sign proclaiming “Dragon Rest Stop - Free Coffee, Neutral Territory”. In short, any place this talisman existed was understood to be a safe haven for any wandering dragons. Safe from what? I didn’t have any clear idea. Maybe I felt that local dragons were super territorial, and wanted to offer up my little bubble of influence as a welcoming cozy spot. Honestly I still feel that way, though I don’t feel quite as strongly that it’s really necessary. But it's not too different from those who turn their back yard into a wildlife sanctuary, or those mythical super-social folks who seem to always have friends crashing on their couch for any reason.
How did I do this? Using what a young teen in the early aughties has on hand: printer paper, gold gel pen, gold embroidery thread, and a substitution glyph I made as part of my story/RP world-building phase (not a full conlang, I didn’t quite have a grasp on making actual new words and phonetic rules). I wrote my statement of welcoming/intent in my made-up letters, added a symbol to reflect my intent (a stylized stick dragon in a circle with two exits to show freedom to come and go), punched a hole in the top of the paper, and strung it with the embroidery thread to hang it where I wanted it. During the creation process, I thought of feelings of comfort and warmth and did my best to mentally infuse that into the talisman. Just cram as much ‘cozy vibes’ into it as I could.
Did it work? For the longest time, I feel like it did. Though back then I was sensing ‘visitors’ every so often anyway. After we moved a few times, it’s stayed packed away and I don’t know where it is now. I actually want to put it back up and see if activity picks up here. I don’t know if making a new one now would be nearly as effective as one made by a youth in the height of their enthusiastic and super-serious cringe.
Is this a good idea?
If you're the cautious sort that doesn't do well with having a constant open invitation to spirits and aren't a fan of "fuck around and find out", then no. This is not for someone who needs specific boundaries for when spirit interaction is/isn’t okay. That said, nothing harmful actually ever happened with this. I was a kid starved for any sort of interaction, and the dragons who dropped by because of this ranged from neutral to friendly. The ones who didn't want to interact didn't take up the offer of shelter, easy as that. Some of the visitors actually did point out that what I was trying wasn't really necessary, but they humored me with the sort of fondness you'd give a kid who was at least trying to do the right thing. If someone else were to try this, I'd suggest phrasing it more like an open social invitation rather than "dragon sanctuary", but that was my running theme back then in both my practice and my story writing.
If you want to try this, go as crazy as you want. Keep it low-key and simple, or make a glitzed-out wall hanging. It's meant to be kept out in the open, so if you're practicing in secret, making it look less obviously magical and more artistic would serve you well; even hiding the statement on the back or under a layer of paint depicting something else would work. Heck, paint what your ideal "invitation space" might look like, to add to the intent of the working.
However complex or simple the talisman's creation, the general guidelines are thus: have a clear statement of intention. This can be more than one line. Mine was along the lines of  "any dragon who wishes may safely rest here, harboring no ill intent, free to come and go." You can use English, or another existing language, or any numerous 'dragon scripts', or your own cypher or sigil. Despite some authors' claims, any one is not inherently superior to the other, and there is no singular universal 'dragon language', so go with what works best for you.
Something to consider is what exactly you're offering: for me, it was safe use of the physical /energetic area that was considered "mine". Are you offering the same? Do you work astrally and are offering a meeting space linked to the talisman? Where are you inviting spirits, and for what purpose?
Next, shiny ink is best ink. No, it doesn't have to be thrice-blessed dragon's blood ink charged by the super blood moon. But if it's what you have on hand, sure. I had shiny metallic gel pens, and that seemed to work just fine. If I were to remake it, I'd probably just use them again. While others like to joke about dragons hoarding shiny things, I'd personally say it's more about how shiny affects the human mind. People are no less drawn to it than how dragons often get portrayed, and it gets so often attributed to being mystical or special that it might as well be what gets used here. If you graduated from gel pens and have, say, fancy iridescent fountain/dip pen inks, y e s. U s e  t h o s e. Use the fancy metallic inks and paints.
… Where was I? Oh, yes.
As excited as I get about art stuff, really, use what you have on hand if you have to.
So, you have your statement of intent, you have your physical materials, now is the time to get to making the talisman. You can choose to either program it with your intent and energy during this process, or you can do it after. Depends on how well you're able to multitask. Once it’s done, you just… hang it up somewhere.
Tumblr media
(pictured above: photo of a paper, with mystical-looking glyphs written in gold gel ink. There is a simplified design of a flying ‘stick’ dragon in a circle broken into two separate parts in the lower right of the paper; this is a mostly-faithful recreation (inactive) of my original talisman.)
Is this guaranteed to work?
Hell no. You’re reading a magical experiment created by a 12-13 year old, being revisited 20 years later. I’m presenting this as a curiosity that was part of my early path, and thought others might be interested in trying it themselves. If it ends up working for you, great. If not, well, I did say it wasn’t guaranteed. Protections are up to you. Modifications, like some sort of off/on toggle (maybe like a business open/closed sign? ideaasss) or inviting other types of entities, are up to you. Have fun with it.

shabbosposting take 2
one day late, bonus edition: 2022 recap + 2023 goals
listening: I made a playlist of hebrew/yiddish metal and prog so that's been a highlight recently, I really like orphaned land so far
edit: i also have free bird stuck in my head bc we did fake karaoke in my friend's basement on new years eve and my bf put it on and now It Will Not Leave
reading: nothing to be honest ... oops ...
watching: finished Bocchi the rock, extremely charming, sparked joy. I've been rewatching hbomberguy video essays because they are reliable and good to have on in the background
playing: a little more hadesgame, Thinking about disco elysium and w101 but I haven't actually done it
making: I did do some embroidery! unfortunately I was. Very optimistic about how much I would get done over break. I brought it home with me with the intention that I could mail it from here but I am going to definitely have to bring it back with me lol
BONUS: what delights have I experienced?
walking around: kinda minor still, mostly just walking the dog
fellowship: part of why I am Very tired is because I have completely filled my schedule with seeing friends :") so I have really had no time to myself at all which is kinda overwhelming. but it's been really good to see everybody! I just wish I had a little more time to fit everything in and not feel so crammed
deliciousness: did a christmas day brunch at ceruleanvulpine's, super delicious spread with eggs, french toast, bagels, sausage, little cookies...dinner at the bf's place after, lamb and kebab and pesto pasta and just kind of a fun mishmash of different style foods...indian food at a friend's place new years eve...and then new years day brunch yesterday with cold cuts and I made my favorite orzo salad. I made myself a BANGIN sandwich today with the leftovers it was great
goofing, transcendence, amelioration, enthrallment, wildcard n/a
---
general reflection
2022 was kind of a weird and bad year! I spent most of the first half of 2022 dealing with the fallout of Dead Parent Zone, got a bad enough grade in a class that for the first time ever I had to retake it, and grappling with being so far from home for school while also dealing with all that shit. then I took on way too many obligations for the fall semester and shot my mental health in the foot a bit as a result.
there were some good things too, though - I was nervous about how a long-distance relationship would go but it's honestly going so, so well and he's been a real source of joy for me this past year. I did pass my classes even though it was a struggle so I don't have to retake anything again, and I already planned to do less next semester. despite it all I did finish a little art, and I got back into life drawing, and had a lot of good moments with friends. in general I think graduate school has been a good choice for me so far, and as much as I bitch and moan about indiana it's like, Fine,
but actually the people are really good, I have a great support network, and ultimately I think it'll continue to be good. it's really made me appreciate the east coast LOL
2023
as ceruleanvulpine said in their resolutionpost, I wanna make more weird art! in general I want to create more and fill the enthrallment, amelioration, and transcendence delight categories more often. I want to finish this embroidery project (ideally soon), the knitted tank top I did that just needs the straps, scarf for my SO...I'd love to start writing again and play more horn but we'll see
I also wanna listen to more weird music, and invest in actually owning some files, especially for some of the lesser-known bands and through bandcamp and stuff
this past year I definitely fell back into some of my more unhealthy coping mechanisms just to deal with the day-to-day (specifically extreme dissociation), I really want to kind of dial those back again, focus more on existing in Reality and more in each moment, which hopefully will also help with some of the skin picking and other anxious habits that resurfaced. maybe more yoga, maybe re-establishing a meditation process, idk yet but I'll work towards it
I would love to think more about my fashion and how I present myself too, and work on making and tailoring more of my clothing in general
I've been pretty good about being active so I'd like to keep that up, I still can't do a pull-up but maybe this is the year! (lol) I should also start doing some minor exercises for my shitty arthritis toes to keep those okay
a lot of last year was kind of a wash regarding research so I'm really looking forward to refocusing on that and really getting things moving.
finally! I want to get back to tabletop! I miss doing it so much! it fell by the wayside for me because of how busy and overwhelmed I was, especially this past fall semester, but I want to start running and playing games with my pals again.
maybe Too Many things listed here, a little ambitious, but maybe that way I'll be able to hit at least one or two of them :b here's to 2023 and making it better than 2022!

((timeline: [one] [two]
Jay paced back and fourth, his mind buzzing with a thousand excuses, rationalizing the importance of it all. In his hand, the metal turning over and over, its intricate details scraping over his calloused fingers.
He knew the day was coming, ever since time reset, he *knew* that it was out there, floating around the postal service. hidden in his parent’s trailer. It was his deep thoughts that made him go out and steal them from them during off hours, despite it truly belonging to him, and the added guilt did little to calm his nerves.
When he turned around once more, he saw for a brief second the two cold dots who tried to close faster than Jay could witness. And after a moment's pass, they slowly opened once more.
"Sorry," Jay whispered as he tip-toed over, "didn't mean to step so loudly."
"It was not your footsteps that woke me up," Zane's naturally quiet voice responded, "I sensed something was amiss. What's wrong?"
His thumb picked at the key, "I don't know if I can tell you..." even though he really wanted to.
Zane seemed to accept this, whether it was because Jay can be stubborn or if it was because he was too tired to really listen was up in the air though. "It is not wise to hold in your troubles for long."
"I know," he scoffed. Part of him wondered if it really was a bad idea to tell Zane. Telling Nya initially felt like a good idea, but then he remembered how much Nadakahns' magic had affected her with his wishes. A mansion suddenly without explanation? He had lied to her about it then, and she never expressed that she recalls that part of it all.
What he really wanted was more answers. Anything about Cliff Gordon online was tabloid junk or movie trailers. He did very few interviews, and even less magazine article highlights, and so Jay repeatedly ran into blanks when doing research in his own time. Not to mention, he still had no idea who his biological mother was either.
Maybe he was looking in the wrong places. He knew at least one person who had some connection to Cliff, even if it was small and one-off. But could he be honest with him without worrying about everyone suddenly knowing?
"Zane, I'm heading out for awhile. I'll be back by noon tomorrow." Jay assured and headed towards the door.
"Where are you going?"
"To the city."
--
Two or three motorbikes lined up the street next to the bar. What once was a loud and obnoxious collector of SOG goons had turned a tad more friendly and reserved as evident by the low decibel that escaped the wooden walls. Jay slid open the door to the place, immediately getting hit by the smell of wicker and fried onions.
It seemed like someone else was running the bar today, a potential setback to Jays plan. "Hi, is Dareth here?" Jay cleared his throat as he leaned on the bar.
The tender shook his head, "He's always here."
"Oh, where?"
His gaze went to that of the bartender, redirecting him to the table that Dareth was serving and chatting to. How odd, he wasn't wearing his normal white shirt, but rather a tan one with dark brown embroidery lacing its sleeves and shoulders. It was then that he also noticed how diligent yet subtle he was being of his surroundings. Dareth had spotted him a few time despite being mid conversation, and even somehow managed to slide a few subtle hand gestures towards his way as well.
"He sees you, give him 5." The bartender cut his thoughts, setting a glass of water down on a napkin.
It was enough time to let him breathe and collect his thoughts. He knew he had to explain this to Dareth in a way that would be fool-proof, and he knew that this could also be a dead end. he stuck a hand in his pocket, grabbing a seat and feeling the items within his sweater. Old Receipts, a few hex nuts, multi-tool, wallet, the key, sticky notes- gosh he needed to clean it out sometime. A small part of his mind wondered if it would be worth it to order something at this late, or of Dareth would spot him for that tab.
“Hey Jay! what are you doing out this late at night? Ninja stuff? Late night snack?” Dareth wedged the heel of his boot on the bar stool as he eased himself onto it.
Jay took a drink of the water and looked around, “Yeah I just have a few questions for you, do you have time for that? You know what? I can just come back tomorrow-”
“Time? psh, I have plenty. I mean, look how dead it is?” Dareth pointed to the sparsity, “What’s on your mind ‘Thunder Dome’?” Like he would pass up any opportunity to help.
His fingers tapped on the hard wood, “Well, it’s about, um, -oh come on Jay just spit it out,” He stomped, “It’s about Cliff Gordon, I want to know everything you know about him. A-and what’s your relation to him?”
He laughed a little awkwardly, “You know how I am, I don’t keep ties with people like that, it’s all dust in the wind.”
the curtness in Dareth’s voice prompted him to insist, “I need to know,” Jay pulled the key and letter from his pocket and held it out, “I need to.”
The brown ninja eyed him with some uncertainty before grabbing the two items and unfolding the paper. His eyes glided over the words, face melting into a masked mix of worry and awe. He looked over Jay again, glancing at the paper once more before passing the two items back. The smile returned to his face as he lead on the bar and drew the attention of his worker, “Hey Levi, Can you hold down the fort for the night? Duty calls and you know that means that it’s important.”
The bartender took a look around and nodded, “I’ll call you if anything goes awry.”
“Smart man. Okay Jay, come with me.”

so i saw the tags on that post you just reblogged (about being super into fibre arts) and i… have a question, if wouldn’t mind answering? (feel free not to, ofc!)
so i am not that post - i learnt the chain stitch when i was eleven and my school had a crochet club. i’m not eleven anymore, but i’ve crocheted on and off over the years. but get this: i’ve never learnt another stitch since. i’m working on a blanket now, and… a couple months ago, i woke up in literal agony as i couldn’t move my hands at all. went to the doctor sobbing, they told me that i’d somehow managed to inflame a muscle in my elbow or smth, just because of how many hours i spent doing the same stitch over and over and over (i’m also a writer - from my phone - so like. lol. in hindsight, not the best idea…), so i’ve been kinda weary of working on the blanket for too long now—
so! what i was wondering was if a) there are any other relatively easy crochet stitches than an amateur could learn? (optionally ones that’d look nice with the chain stitch:D) and b)… how do you become that person, who knows a lot of different fibre arts and in somewhat depth? because i’d really love to do that but craft stores are so daunting, and whenever i look stuff about fibre arts, the person behind the yt video/website thinks that the reader has some sort of idea about said art and i….. do not lol, and i never know where to start.
Hey anon, great questions!
As someone who has gave herself tendinitis in both wrists from knitting too much in a week, you need to keep an eye on that injury. It took mine well over 10 months to heal and five years later I still get weakness and pains if I work them too much. So be careful with your wrists/elbows, take lots of breaks, do your physical therapy, do a bunch of warm-up stretches (or if you're like me and forget, pause every hour or so to do some). And most importantly: pay attention if anything feels like it's pulling or aching or numb or tingly. And if it does, you have to stop for the night, no acceptations, no "just one more row", you're done. Which sucks, but better than a permanent injury.
I started with knitting in college, mostly like what you're doing with crochet: same repetitive thing over and over until you're very confident with the stitch and tension on yarn, etc. For me, it really helps if you have a project you want to do that requires a new technique--I don't tend to do well with just practicing something for the sake of it, I want to make something fun! So my suggestion would be to look up a pattern (not a complicated one) that uses a new technique you want to learn and then just try it out. Worst that can happen is you rip it out and try again! This is how/why I picked up crochet after years of knitting: I wanted to make some cute little animals and it's a nightmare to knit those. But they're easy to crochet.
Also, consequently, switching fiber crafts can allow you to extend the amount of crafting you can do if your arm starts bugging you again. You just have to swap the type of motion and stress you're applying to your wrists. For months after injuring mine, I was only doing cross-stitch--the weight of the project was significantly less than, say, a blanket and moving a needle through fabric involved very different motions than knitting. I actually grew up doing embroidery, added knitting and later crochet in college and grad school, got into cross-stitch after that, and now I have a sewing machine and want to learn spinning and...oh no.
To actually answer your crochet question: I think it's pretty easy to go from a chain stitch to a single crochet stitch, and once you get that, doubles and triples are just how many more times you loop the yarn. I haven't done a whole lot of crochet--mostly making amigurumi--but these were easy enough stitches to learn and there are a whole bunch of very nice and slow youtube tutorials. Pick your fav yarn and hook size and try them out!
Hope this helps and have fun crafting!

🎭🎨🛏 for Yoru >×>
Thank you for the ask, Mutsu!!! Sorry this took so long to get to, buy I hope you like the responses!
🎭 What does [Yoru] regret most? Would he go back and change it?
Yoru mostly regrets how he acted during his recovery. He was so snappy with his friends, and said a lot of mean things... he also yelled at them a lot, before the abger faded and turned into him ignoring them, even if they were right in front of him. It's why he was so scared to go back to Oumihara-- he was afraid that they hated him for being such a major asshole, even going so far as to completely ignore their messages. He'd left the anger behind before moving to Hokkaido, but he'd been ignoring his friends, and by the time year two rolled around after moving, he felt it was too late to make amends, and became afraid of knowing how they felt about him now.
But his biggest regret isn't a true regret, so to speak. He regrets that he'd been too blinded and self-centered to notice he hadn't been giving his teammates their proper chance to shine on the field. He believes he stole their recognition. But the thing is-- he hadn’t done that, at all. Watanabe and the trauma of Watanabe attacking him has made him believe he was the one at fault, when all of Yoru's old teammates say he'd always made sure they were given their chance to shine-- Watanabe was just jealous that Yoru was their captain and their ace.
Would Yoru go back and undo it? If you'd asked him that in the first year or so after the incident, he wouldn't have hesitated before saying yes. He would have gladly given Watanabe ally he spotlight he wanted if it meant he could still play the way he wanted to. But now? Now, he's alright with what happened. Traumatized, but alright. Because if it hadn't been for the incident, he might never have met Shirou, or the rest of the Hakuren gang. Well-- he might have met Shirou, thanks to Aliea, but he wouldn't have become as close to him, much less gain a beautiful, amazing boyfriend who he would fight the world for.
🎨 Does [Yoru] have any craft skill? Which?
He knows how to sew a little, thanks to Haruka! After he and Haruka had a bad fight while Yoru was recovering, she decided to teach him how to sew as a way to help him focus on something else and keep calm. He's not very good at it, though-- mostly he just mends tears in his clothing. As he gets older, though, he gets interested in things like embroidery.
When he's 25 and Hakuren's assistant coach/trainer, he's good enough at embroidery that he's decorated a bunch of his jeans and vests and stuff with it. Does he wear the ones he's decorated? Not really. Although, he's more likely to wear the vests than he is the pants. (He doesn't really like attention being drawn to his legs, though he enjoys decorating the bad leg side more than the other, anyway.)
He typically embroiders colorful flames or "tie-dye" hearts, usually matching whatever a person's aura looks like. For himself he just lets his body go on auto pilot and pick the colors that way, or he'll base it off a friend.
His friends' most beloved embroidery jobs: a small, simplified embroidery of what Shirou's aura looked like after the merge, hidden beneath the hood on his jacket; a surfboard on Tsunami's swim trunks (he has a similar one on one of his shirt sleeves); a tie dye heart on a soft denim jacket that Natsume and Haruka often share, with their auras mixing together; a pair of pants that have what appears to be a whirlwind of color along the length of the left leg but to those who know, is based off Avalanche, Atsuya, Shirou, and Yoru's first combination hissatsu. It's no longer their go-to-- they create a new one at some point after Shiro and Atsuya merge-- but it's still a hissatsu that means a lot to them.
🛏 What does [Yoru's] bed look like? What does he want it to look like?
Yoru's bed is basically a box spring and a mattress on the floor, no bedframe. It was a loft style bunk bed but then the incident happened and it became too much of a risk with his leg the way it was now. His sheets are a deep, rich blue, and he's got at least three blankets on it at any given time. Two are plain color blankets (kind and color varies depending how he's feeling and what's clean, but at least one is always a denser, heavy blanket that's not fuzzy and good at trapping heat) while the top blanket typically has a deer on it in an autumn forest OR is galaxy themed. All of it is underneath a reversible down comforter that's grey and white plaid on one side and grey and white wavy pattern on the other
If it looked the way he wanted it to look, ideally, he'd go back to the loft bed, or something with easier steps, but he accepts that he can't really do that now because of space and the fact that some days his leg hurt so badly he doesn't want to move, and that's just too dangerous and annoying to bother making his bed that way again.
Since he doesn't want to bother, it'd be a four poster canopy bed. The canopy would be a sheer white with sparkles threaded throughout to make it look like freshly fallen snow, the bedframe black. The sheets would be a light grey made of silk, at least four pillows even if he only uses two on a bad day, still with three blankets, a red comforter, and a "decorative" blanket on top that is super soft and has an anime character he enjoys on it.
