one of the most infuriating things about becoming an adult is when you realize that it actually is 10x easier to solve problems by making a phone call vs literally any other communication method
#I was forced to get over my hatred of making phone calls bc of this#one 15 minute phone call is the equivalent of 5 back and forth emails#also if you don't know exactly what you need help with you can just ask and you can get real help#instead of just desperately clawing at faqs on websites#it's infuriating that it works so well#ramblings

hi, i'm howls/lup ! (27, australian) i don't really care about pronouns but usually go by it/they/he ! i have autism, ocd, did (am a system), and depression/other stuff ! i've had this blog for many years and have done hundreds of requests and artworks ! most of my stuff is animal/otherkin/therian/nonhuman, and vent/trauma artworks !

What markers do you use and what kind paper? The textures are so Delicious
Very basic paper, actually! I find I overthink when using expensive stuff and it makes my sketches worse.
As for markers, I use Copics! Not that this is an endorsement (my first set were a very nice gift), but I have really liked using alcohol based markers over water based ones; lovely texture, good blending, and less streaking. However, the price can be *brutal*, and you can very easily get by with other markers + pencil crayons.
#ask#art faqs#fancy supplies are nice but the dont really help THAT much for art skills. Consistancy and persistance does.#I balked the first time I needed to go in to buy a few new ones to fill out my roster.#if you are going to invest; my strategy was to make those fancy new supplies a reward for drawing X amount of days in a row#that way one doesnt buy a bunch of stuff for a soon to be abandoned hobby#Art is a relatively cheap hobby at its basics. You do not need the fanciest and most expensive things.#I think watercolour is the only exception for me; that paper better be high grade. The paint mix also matters#but I digress. Buy what you need and not what you want. Save your money.#Guilt will make you stop drawing. Hoarding supplies and never using them is wasteful#when I drop money on new colours I'm going in with a list of what I want#and looking through the swatchpad for hours until i get the right colour.#cant emphasize enough how fortunate I am to have been gifted my copics. I never would have bought them on my own.

i was just wondering whether you plan on having a preorder for the dunmeshi charms you're planning before or after the end of November because I want at least one tvdint charm but I'd like to make one large order instead of several small ones :3 I won't be angry at all if you say it will be later I just like to plan stuff before I do them because of my 'tism
im gonna be real here the preorder isn't going amazingly well so it's likely it will be extended into december along with the addition of the dungeon meshi charms! im still working on them but there are also gonna be like 50 or so characters to pick from ouoiuogiukjhg
(yes, they're all the same height and thats gonna bother me forever but having them all on the same base is the compromise im making for being able to afford to produce 50+ characters a set 😤 )
i kinda figured tvdint alone wasnt gonna be hugely popular (im still pleasantly surprised by the interest it is getting!!!) and had hoped to launch it alongside more stuff in the first place but i've always got not enough time to do what i want lol

(I answer this in more detail here, but no, not all Peppino clones can reproduce
Cake (Case #00258) was the first documented instance of a clone reproducing, and all previous cases (00001 to 00257) were all infertile (most didn't last long enough to get to that point anyways)
Asexual reproduction (via budding or mitosis) is probably the most common way for them to make baby Peppies hehe, but as my previous answer says, there are other ways too, but most are unaware of it all)

gonna make one of these. I'll update it as I go along:
Story Questions:
Q: How old is Wan Ji
A: At the start of the comic; she's 27
Q: When does this comic take place
A: Chapter 0 begins a few days after S1E9 "Macaque".
Chapter 1 took place a week after. (roughly)
Chapter 2 took place between S1E9 and S1E10.
CH 3 takes place in the Season 2 Special "Revenge of The Spider Queen"
CH 4 takes place during Sleep Bug and maybe even Dumpling Destruction as they seem to happen fairly close to one another. (S2E1 and S2E2 respectively)
CH 5-6 takes place during Sweet and Sour
CH 7 has no specific time frame but is before Shadow Play.
Q: Are Macaque and Wan Ji a couple?
A: Not yet. Wan Ji, by Chapter 3, saw Macaque as her friend. Macaque doesn't know how he feels. Neither are romantically involved yet. (Will be updated)
Q: Will Wan Ji meet more characters from Lego Monkie Kid?
A: The hope is; yes. Most likely not any time soon though.
Q: What does Wan Ji's name mean?
A: 聶 Nie - Whispering; 晚 羇 Wan Ji - Night Traveller
Q: Is [insert event here] gonna happen?
A: If you send me an ask like this; I probably can't answer it because it risks spoilers; or answering it will give people false ideas of where the story is heading.
The only time I'll answer is if it's something blatantly concerning.
Q: What will Wan Ji and Mac's children look like?/Will Wan Ji and Mac have kids?/any question regarding children.
A: Wan Ji and Macaque will never have children. It makes me very uncomfortable to be asked this so please don't. At best they will be a big sibling/auntie/uncle to a younger character. You don't have to be a nuclear family to be a family.
Technical Questions:
Q: How long does it take you to make a page?
A: There's no specific amount of time. It depends entirely on energy, schedule, and my brain's ability to focus that day. If I focus really hard, I can get it done in maybe 5 hours start to finish, but it rarely goes that way.
Q: What programs do you use?
A: Clip Studio Paint for everything comic related.
Q: Can I translate your comic?
A: Please don't unless you're willing to stay in contact with me to do so. I've had bad experiences with mistranslations and people making dialogue changes in bad faith. I'd rather not catch fire for that. If you decide to do it anyway, understand that I am not affiliated.
Q: How do you build Chinese names?
A: I'm not an authority on the matter. You should research the subject for yourself.
Q: What's the difference between a Huli Jing and a Kitsune, and why can I not call it the latter?
A: Japanese imperialism still affects people in china to this day. Kitsune is the Japanese variant of the Huli Jing; but the Huli Jing predates it. I don't feel comfortable using Japanese words to describe Chinese myths, especially with the already rampant disrespect towards chinese culture that exists in this fandom.
For further explanation; the difference between the Huli Jing and Kitsune are dependant on the telling. Kitsune are rice deities, are capable of possession, and most importantly, are Japanese. Huli Jing, as far as I've been able to find, are shapeshifters, who can change into a human once they've found the skull that fits their heads perfectly. The over-populartiy of kitsunes makes it extremely difficult to find any information on most Chinese originating mythology, and I would personally like to make an effort to change that.
TLDR: calling it "Kitsune" instead of "Huli Jing" is racist.

A: Of course! You don't need to ask about that! As long as it respects the rules.

I don't know why I'm the way that I am, but I am. (Felt like I just came back from a battlefield tryna understand what this shimeji thing is).
#aria rants#by which i mean... how to make one. yea i was hit with the impulsive thought of: what if i make a shimeji of my own oc for myself#and i was fighting for my life getting the editor of the website to work cuz it wont work in firefox#then i went to chrome but its still blank and i was like: okay. lets just search this in google#then i got redirected to reddit. and i had to install java cuz turns out the one my pc had was outdated#and then i downloaded a shimeji which was a lil blob dude. and then i was like: okay. but how do i change that#so i went back to the website. in firefox. cuz the first time it didnt work wasnt enough for me apparently#so i went back to chrome again cuz well it obvs didnt work. then i was like: okay. its an extension for chrome only.#so i went to the extensions to get it. then i went back to the site. the editor is finally working but wait#thats only apparently for the window. so i went back to the file i downloaded. finally read a very obvs text literally named#''readme'' and then i finally partially understood what i had to do to create my own shimeji but i still dont understand it well#so i went back to the reddit faq of it. and finally... understood what i need to do and mygod...#ill... ill get to that someday... it felt like im gonna end up biting more than i can chew with this thing rn like gayum
