I am now thinking of a AU where Wake is able to fully communicate with Gideon from the sword and doesn’t become a vengeance spirit or whatever (maybe because Gideon has weird abilities because she’s pretty much a demigod. Idk not the point)

When the murders happen she’s still in her bones but she hears about it and because she dead she just knows. A sickness doesn’t kill everyone at once and it’s exactly the type of thing that Eden would use as propaganda so that’s what she jumps too. Maybe she assumes that Bomb died too and maybe she’s even thankful that John Gaius’s spawn didn’t live to become a necromancer.

But then- a single child lived. The one that no one wanted or knew where she came from. And how can’t she be a little proud of that? That her child survived some necromancer’s plot?

Then a few years later Bomb comes wondering through the tombs. Barely more than a toddler but looks so much like Wake that it’s like seeing her baby pictures come to life. The only thing that doesn’t match are her eyes and she’s healthy in a way that doesn’t match any necromancer she’s ever seen.

Bomb stops right in front of Wakes bones. There is no way she should be able to tell whose bones sit in front of her- she has no name here. That’s been stripped from her in death. But Bomb sits there in front of her and starts babbling. And Wake can’t not listen because she’s dead.

It’s only after it’s been hours that a care taker comes and she learns what they’ve named her. She laughs, as much as a ghost can laugh, and Bomb - Gideon turns around in the caretaker’s arms and laughs right along with her.

Gideon keeps coming back. Over and over, for hours at a time. She sits in front of her mother’s bones in silence while she reads, she babbles about her days, she plays games with only rocks and sticks. And it takes her weeks but Wake realizes that Gideon can hear her.

And what can she do, other than talk to this tiny little version of herself? There is no one else. She’s stuck in this hole of a prison and if nothing else Gideon is so very much her more than she is John Gaius.

Maybe she tells Gideon stories passed down through the ages. Tales of life outside the Houses. Gives her Eden name that only Wake and Gideon know.

Hey guys I have a question, to those of you who are experienced with this kind of situation.

If you are taking care of someone who is ill, and they are sleeping but they actually haven't eaten much all day and it's about time to take the meds, but waking them up can potentially make the pain worse and they may or may not have the appetite to eat anyway, and may find it difficult to fall asleep after, which can make the pain worse

Would u still wake them up? To persuade them to eat something and take the meds?

i'm neutral on the budding "[x] by the narrative" discourse for now, but i just wanted to share. i had a pretty vivid dream in which i was "the protagonist" at first, but then at some point the dream shifted to the 3d person perspective and i was watching some other person do their thing. after waking up i didn't get up immediately and instead hallucinated for like 5 mins as my brain uncontrollably elaborated on the plot of the dream. according to it, after i woke up there was a nuke-like explosion that killed that person i was watching and everyone around. yet, when i asked myself "how did i survive?", someone answered: by becoming "the narrator" i have stopped existing in the dream's world and thus there was nothing to explode. so what do you call that, dissolved in the narrative?

the last book grandma ever read was agatha christie's "murder on the orient express," which was also the first book my mother remembers getting from her as a gift and not a hand-me-down from her siblings.

one of her favorite 'isms' was 'all things in moderation,' but she also had a plaque in the kitchen when my aunts were growing up that read "you have to kiss a lot of horny toads before you find a prince" and another tchotchke that featured a cherub swinging on a length of twine that said "when you reach the end of your rope, tie a knot and HANG ON." like every nonna on earth before her, she ushered us to dinner with a "mangia" - which was also what it said on her favorite apron.

the last picture taken of her was her first picture with her great-granddaughter ellie, who's two months old and named after her. it was the first and only time they met.

Daniel

his mother and step-father really wanted to see him work for trauma team, his mom already had med school paid for him (with jonathan's money fjdsjk) and jon already pulled some strings for a guaranteed job in the company. but daniel simply hated having his future already decided by others and he never liked the idea of working for corporations. he will later become a ripperdoc tho :^)

he's going to take this secret to the grave (and also made fenix SWEAR he will never talk about it with vesper) but. looks like he had a little crush on fenix when he first met him..he didn't know he had history with his own sister and he regrets thinking fenix was hot every single day of his life kfjsdkf

he loves doing little sketches, he's not an artist and doesn't really care about drawing in general but he likes to u know, doodle stupid things with his wobbly lines. leave little notes around with his doddles on it

fenix has become some kind of mentor in his life, like an older brother (even if he already has one but they never really had a good relationship) and vesper hates that soooo much because sometimes daniel acts like him/thinks like fenix would etc etc. daniel looks up at him with admiration maybe like a role model, even if he doesn't spare fenix of any playful insults and so on. everyone is concerned about this

Nader

has a black cat named Noir and he loves him more than anything in the world. one day this stray entered his mother's restaurant trying to find something to eat and nader immediately fell in love with the little guy. he kept feeding him every time noir came around until one day he never left <3

he's a drummer and played a few times with vesper out of fun, they do match reaaal well together, they are just missing a few bandmates to finally have their own official band

he lives in a pretty cozy studio: the place has something poetic about it (just like its owner, a poetic soul you know), minimalist but also chaotic in a tidy way if this makes sense fjksdkl. he hated leaving his mother since he's very close to his family but he felt like he needed his own place, especially for doing his netrunning stuff. it's all okay tho bc he visits karima almost daily (works at the restaurant with her too when he can). also everyone is wondering when daniel will move in with him there since he spends most of his time at nader's place anyway (fenix. fenix is asking himself that. bc he wants the house free of daniel fjsdkfjdn)

it was his idea to own a tattoo studio and daniel got dragged into it by curiosity basically. one day he randomly mentioned his idea of opening a studio and daniel immediately went ohh WELL that's my dream too now. nader is very happy about this because not only he can do something he loves but he's doing it with his best friend which makes everything more special than he could ever dream of
