Buddha

Buddha is a pretty chill man and that won't really change when he becomes a father, he isn't exactly estrict and he let his child do whatever they wants, still he can get protective over you (specially with the gods)

Buddha actually loves parenting, finding pretty cute almost everything you do, specially when you were a baby, just holding you gently close to him make his day way better, and he loves seeing you grow up too

That is why Buddha can get pretty clingy to you, wherever he goes you go with him and he is always carrying you, in his arms, in his back or in his shoulders, wherever you prefer

Since Buddha used to be a prince he has received a very good education, and he will teach you all knowledge he remember along side with all that he had learn in his own

He is a really supportive father for whatever you want to do, doesn't matter is an ambitious goal or something more simple you will always have his support

Even when he let you do whatever you want he makes sure you don't forget to be respectful, you have to respect other as well as others have to respect you, even him, he tell you more than once that if he ever feel that he is been disrespectful or invase with you don't hesitant on tell him

Is for sure that you will meet the other sages too, but Buddha doesn't fully trust them to take care of you (specially in your early life) just because he knows the mess they are he is the same, but will never stop you from hanging out with them and they loves having you around, so is a win win for everyone

Buddha says that he doesn't like to brag about whatever he did, but he actually do love it and a lot but just with you because he loves seeing you amazed and proud expression whenever he tell you how he become the man he is now. And that is a negative point with the sages, because while your papa tell you amaizing stories about him the sages tell you stories about the irresponsable mess he is whenever he is with them (specially Confucious and Jesus)

The moment you start having friends with people your age or just people you like he just motivate you to go with them not really interfering, even when he doesn't seem affected by it is just matter of time for him to start to feel lonely without you around all the time (and he tells that to the other sages just to be dramatic and mess with them)

Shiva

If someone ask him about his child he normally don't say much, he acts like isn't a big deal, it isn't not like he doesn't like his newborn because he does and a lot, is just that he doesn't show it to others but he is extremely happy for this and he tent to spend all his time with his child, specially when you were just a baby

Your naps are the perfect excuse for him to be lazy, he says that he just want to look after you while you sleep but he always end up sleep too, it got pretty common to find Shiva sleep with you on top of him (sleeping too)

He won't admit it out loud but he is weak to your cuteness, whenever you do something cute (that for him is almost everything you do) he melt, leading Shiva to spoil you a lot, if there is something you want you will have it, he just can't bring himself to say not to cute little you

He grows pretty clingy to you, always wanting to hold you in his arms and play with you, but as you grow up he start to give you more freedom, not like he has been possessive is just that he loves spending time with you

He loves braging about all the adventures he had in the past and all the fights he had to become the man he is now (he may or may not exaggerate or lengthen the story to make it more exciting because he loves to see your amazed expression)

He isn't exactly estrict so is more probably that Parvati, Kali and Durga will be the ones who look after your education more. Although you are free to choose the direction your life will take once you grow up

Shiva introduce you to everyone he knows, still he is a little protective over you so if he notice that you are comfortable or someone is bothering you (even if is his friend) he will stand up for you, no matter what age you are he always will stand up for you

Once you start getting your own friends and wanting to go out without your parents Shiva gets a little jealous but he won't stop you from doing it, you have to explore the world on your own and find what you want to do

Shiva is totally the type of father that will tell your friends embarrasing stories about you because he find them cute and to mess with you

Heracles

Heracles is a caring and pretty protective father, he is mixed between wanting to protect his child from everything and anything and wanting to let them explore the world on his own

When you were just a baby he was really nervious about carrying you, is just that you were so small and tiny that he is worried that he would hurt you, it takes him a while to get used to but he end up loving holding you close to him

Heracles isn't exactly clingy but he likes to spend a lot of time with his child, and he gives you more freedom as you grow, again because he wants for you to explore and learn all you want

Also he used to carry you around all the time as a baby but as you grow he stop doing it so much for you to walk around all you want, although he will never say no whenever you ask him to carry you, no matter what age you have

Heracles will introduce you to the gods and humans he know (mainly the ones that are of his fully trust, specially when you were just a toddler), although he won't force you to get along with them, he hopes you will but won't force you if you don't

Since he is a god he will be busy from time to time so he will have to leave you with someone capable of taking care of you (probably Hermes), and, of course, it has to be someone you like and are comfortable with

Speaking of, whenever he goes out to fullfil a work he always tries to bring something for you on his way back, a gift of something he knows you will like (no matter how old you are he keeps doing it), and he always tell you the story of his adventure (avoiding disgusting details)

He isn't someone who likes to brag, but he can't say not to you whenever you ask him about the stories of all his adventures. And if you see him or tell him that he is a hero he will be so flustered by it and it gives him a lot of motivation to continue with his work

He want for you to grow up as someone caring and strong, he tell you that you should respect everyone, gods and humans, just as they have should respect you too. He won't let you be revelious but he isn't aggresive when confronting you

If you want learn how to fight he will happy to teach you (but will go easy on you since the circumstances aren't forcing you to become stronge like were when he a young human), but then again if you aren't interested on it is fine, he wont force you

OF COURSE ! I think about him everyday

- The airspray shirts he makes don't sell very well, but he still makes use of the equipment to make and gift shirts to his friends and loved ones

- He spoils people all the time with expensive stuff, he thinks people will be less likely to abandon him if he does so. He thinks the fact he has money is the only thing that makes him remotely loveable

- Cries easily

- Makes animation memes on Flipaclip. He is not very outstanding at it. He has a protogen fursona

- Has horrible reflexes, but is extremely cracked at Geometry Dash and Subway Surfers

- He doesn't have a very good relationship with his sister, his jealousy caused by his parents' favoritism towards her makes him act unusually petty, even though his sister is actually pretty nice to him

- Borderline Personality Disorder. Very bad abandonment issues. Was splitting on Joan in S3 E9

- He likes JFK, but would never date him cuz he's clingy and he thinks he would interfere with JFK's not-very-monogamous lifestyle

- He gave away the "I only got eyes 4 u" shirts to some random couple without telling them the backstory

- Somehow still does not know that Top-her69 was Topher

- Amab genderfluidddd all pronouns + ey/em + bro/bros + other neopronouns probably. But if asked in real life he's just gonna go "Uhh I'm a guy but I don't care if you call something else"

- Has a bit of an issue with vaping and energy drinks

- His favorite food is pizza

- He treats Kevin like a big puppy dog. Even though it's a Giant Bear

- He listens to EDM, hyperpop, dubstep and similar. Probably had a Skrillex haircut when he was younger

- ADHD+autism, he mainly stims vocally by making noises (pew pew!) or quoting internet vids he finds funny

- His special interest is Fast and Furious

- You know his ass never charges his Nintendo Switch

- The reason why you don't see him in the episode anymore after he gave Abe the suggestion that got him cancelled, is because he felt super bad and started hiding ("I run from like, 99% of my problems")

- Not a very good singer

- As we all know his parents are very absent, but they did help him dress up for the Valentine's day week dance

- Has a huge admiration for Frida, and is very intimidated by Cleo, which is a funny combination because the two of them were together for a year

- Owns an Itemlabel Dinkle

- First thing he does when he wakes up is message Joan good morning . or good afternoon . The only thing holding his schedule together is having to go to school

- His parents wanted to get him a panda because they know he loves em. But it was a pain in the ass because of the whole "former endangered species" thing. So they got him Kevin instead because close enough

clone high season 3 thoughts:

joan was handled a lot better but it sucks that her and jfk NEVER talked abt their relationship again. it's all about her and abe/confucious now and i hate it. i liked her going back to her indie girl roots but the og joan would NEVER accept that whole "i'll pretend to date you if you pay for my film festival" shit. she had more class than that. it feels like she's doing that thing they did in z-o-m-b-i-e-s where s2 she thinks she belongs with harriet and jfk but now she thinks she's a bleacher creature... idk it's weird.... bleacher creatures were kinda cool tho :) not topher.

i liked jfk being the mc actually, it was refreshing. i found the christian arc really fitting especially at the end where they tied it together as him being a kennedy. i didn't like him dating harriet again and i also didn't like the jfabe hints ???? that scares me... but the dick pic thing was funny,, also the fact that he's just like,, one of the guys now?? him and confucius and abe being buds. just dudes being dudes.

abe was SO much more in character this season. i didn't particularly like the bloody mary episode but the whole "i found a girl and she's nerdy like me and she's cute and funny but she wants to get rid of joan" thing is okay i guess. it really feeds back into s1 when he abandoned ghandi for cleo. overall he was good but he was VERY hypersexual this season and it was just awkward to watch.

cleo acted... KIND of like herself?? i liked the slim snowsuit thing and the supporting frida because she got free stuff but that's like it. i still wish her and frida had more setup in s2 but they handled it well this season at least. them being the christian icons was funny i guess but i seriously want cleo to accidentally use frida and manipulate her power at some point and then feel guilt. that's the ONLY reason cleo should ever feel guilty for anything in this show.

frida was chill tbh, not much to say abt her. the whole fish pointing, painting stuff for cleo, only snorkeling to make her happy was sososososo cute </33 i want more stuff like that :")

harriet is terrible character writing. her only trait is that she's smart and loyal, but she cheats on confucius. with eye sex. I HATE THE EYE SEX THING. WHY WAS IT NECESSARY. and then she goes back to confucius as soon as she thinks he's available just because she thinks he likes her. WHAT. AND THEN SHE'S MAD ??? i feel like she's only there to be joan's friend and to be with frida at the beginning of s1... WHY!!!!! IS JFK!!!!! DATING HER !!!!! STILL !!!! NOT ONLY IS SHE A BAD FRIEND, SHE'S JUST A BAD PARTNER IN GENERAL!!

confucius is a good character though imho. he was a good person this season and his actions actually made sense with his motivations. he's a huge people pleaser and because of that he wants validation in points (ep1) and doesn't wanna tell harriet he's dating joan. he wants to keep everyone happy and he's so sweet tbh he's growing on me.

I had this headcanon of what if the Clones in Clone High can actually speak to their Clone parents via a spiritual convo gadget ( cuz why not )

Here are some of my HCs of how some of their Clone parents be like with their Clone kids :

. Look, considering the fact that their Clone parents lived in different times as them, those clones are bound to have some wild advice

. Vincent Van Gogh be a gentle and artistic parent who tries his best to help his Clone son battle through depression. It breaks his heart seeing his Clone son having depression as he does, so one way for him to try help his Clone son is through art therapy ( it works, most of the time )

. Julius Caesar be kinda like that military, athletic dad who has high hopes in his Clone son and trains him in military and politics related shit. But if he comes to Caesar and cries to him about heartbreak and stuff, ofc Caesar is gonna lend him a shoulder to cry on ( after all, Romans are encouraged to embrace their emotions growing up ).....while having murder on his mind

. Cleopatra VII be that glam mom whom Cleo Smith looks up highly too but sometimes wonders how tf she can live up to her Clone mom's big name. And sometimes, Cleopatra sometimes tries to help her Clone daughter compose herself more ( I bet Julius Caesar and Mark Antony prepared her for her Clone daughter )

. In fact, sometime after Clone High began, Caesar and Cleopatra are reunited through a series of trials and such in afterlife planes ( cuz Cleopatra avoided him all these years due to her thinking that he doesn't love her anymore regarding the whole Actium War thing, the Egyptian Gods are at cold war situation with the Greco Roman gods for centuries since the Actium War until sometime after WW2 and such ) and the two basically agreed to co parent each other's Clone kids. Bless

. Abraham Lincoln is kind of like an ' old school ' type of dad to Abe who loves his Clone son and wants the best for Abe. He also tries his best to encourage Abe to develop more of a backbone and stand up to ' big headed machos ' from being pushed around ( by JFK Jr and Julius Jr before they eventually sincerely apologized )

. Genghis Khan be kinda like that scary dude in PTA meetings but actually doting and caring to his Clone son and wanted the best for him. He keeps saying that his Clone is his 366th child ( I heard Genghis Khan ended up having 365 Kids and 1001 grandkids- DAMN )and trains Genghis Jr in fitness, politics and such

. Joan of Arc be a cool lesbian mom who supports her Clone daughter's dreams and sexual orientation, and ofc gives her Clone daughter sound advice. Joan of Arc knew from the get go that Abe doesn't deserve Joan Jr ( HAAAAA!!!! )

. Confucious be kinda like Master Oogway and/or Shifu to his Clone son's Po - trains him in philosophy, defense combat and such And gives his Clone son sound advice

. Frida Kahlo be like a wacky cool mom to her Clone daughter, encouraging her Clone daughter's artistic passions and talents and the two be regularly exchanging artistic ideas with each other. Bless.

. Harriet Tubman be giving her Clone daughter tips on how to fight racist thugs ( YASSS!!!! ) and also encourages her Clone daughter's dreams and hopes and gives her Clone daughter some solid advice.

. JFK be kinda like a 50s/60s athletic dad to his Clone son, encouraging his athletic and political prowesses and such. JFK sometimes find himself having to ensure his Clone son doesn't do anything TOO stupid tho.

. Sacagawea be that ' cool ' mom to her Clone daughter who teaches her Clone daughter about embracing her heritage and geography and such, ofc she gives her Clone daughter several sound advices too

. Some of the clones have some DNA from those with close relations to their Clone parents

. Julius Jr got some DNA from Caesarion and therefore has recessive DNA from Cleopatra VII. JFK Jr got some DNA from John John Kennedy and therefore has recessive DNA from Jackie Bouvier. Cleo Smith got some DNA from Cleopatra Selene II, and Abe got some DNA from Mary Todd Lincoln

. Genghis Jr got some DNA from Empress Borte ( Genghis Khan's chief wife )

It was so fun to think, thanks for you request! I did my best to write it and I hope you like it

Also, feel free to request more of them if you like! Maybe in another scenario

You met Buddha when you were young, when he still was a prince, you were there when he decided to leave everything behind and you decided to follow him, becoming one of his first disciples

You practically grow up by his side, learning a lot of things from him, and even he grow having a great affection for you (as an older brother)

After a long time he get the title of a sage, soon you have the oportunity to meet the others

Buddha ended up having troubles to attent so he decided to leave you under their care (even if you didn't need it, he will do it just to annoy you)

They, at least at first, tried to act cool and colected in front of you, just like you'll expect for a sage, but soon you'll realice that things aren't like it seem

You'll see the pretty caotic group they are, of those who when together share a single neuron

Sometimes they still try to act as the sages they are, teaching you something important and making you reflect on it

If your more the quiet and responsible type you somehow balances their chaotic energy, keeping them in the limits of disaster, and even scold them (not like that will stop them)

But in case your more the energetic type then all of you will have a lot of fun, but will cause a lot of trouble too

They usually fight for the silliest things, like who will eat the last piece of whatever you're eating, who will be the victim voluntary to try your next idea, or even blaming each other when something goes wrong. Confucious is the one whos always cheering for fight, even when he's involved. Most of the time you have to be the mediator in the fights, except when you are the one whos fighting

When things get out of their hands Confucious is the first to react, just because he panics. Jesus always try to keep a calm expresion, even if he's visibly panicing, and that always frustrate Confucious. Most of the time is Socrates or you who come with a plan to resolve the problem (becouse the other two are fighting)

When Buddha return to see how you were doing, what he sees it was all of you in a big trouble (like almost burning your own house), and, to be honest, he didn't know what to do, if laugh or scold all of you (at the end he do both)

Buddha said to you that he wanted to get you away from that caos, but the reality was that he's as caotic as the other three

Sometimes the posibility of you having a favorite bring a rivality between them and a little fight to be your favorite, and when Buddha gets involve too he will brag about how you two know each other even before they meet you

Then, the Ragnarok came and the 4 of you sit all together, at first you were quiet and even saying comments too philosophical, but soon you just let yourself be carried away by the excitement of the fight and start acting like the caos you are. This surprise the humans around you, but after some fights they get used to!

The announcement of Buddha fighting for the humans truly surprise you, but you couldn't expect less from him

Hi! I finally got the time to read the chapter and your notes and it was really cool! I don't think I have anything particularly intelligent to say about the chapter, but I enjoyed it a lot, so I hope you don't mind me rambling a bit about it here. (I feel shy about saying anything in my own blog.)

When I read that the story would begin with creating the world it sounded like it would be weird or disconnected, but it was rather natural? I enjoyed the relationship between time in its different scales (the day, the years, creation, all brought together with the system of the Heavenly Stems). Oh! And I much appreciated the notes pointing out that the part where the translation talks about great male and female supreme was actually talking about yin and yang, that made a lot more sense.

It was also interesting meeting Sun Wukong and reading what you meant about him striving upward and the contradiction of what's being pursued, the purpose and the path. For the sake of not relinquishing an easy, simple and pleasing life at death's hands, he goes to search the teaching of an ascetic immortal… It's just the beginning, but I already think it's very intentionally setting something there to be explored.

I also think it was interesting when, while searching for a teacher, the man who guides Sun Wukong there talks about how *he* couldn't take that path because it would mean abandoning his family. I'm not sure if I should see it as an indication that following the path requires a level of privilege, or rather that commitment to the path demands detachment even of something as significant to mortals as filial piety. Would you mind telling me about your opinion on this?

Another interesting bit about the chapter was Sun Wukong himself: he's intrepid making the cross the other monkeys were afraid of, generous when he invites the other monkeys to the idyllic home he found instead of trying to keep it to himself, self-assured when demanding the others follow through on calling him king, insightful while seeing beyond the pleasure of his present life, ambitious by deciding to search for immortality despite it requiring to leave behind his comfort, self-serving chosing to scare people and steal from someone for his clothes, surprisingly self-conscious to be afraid of knocking but not to make himself silent and unknown, yet humble enough to genuinely prostrate himself to a new master. It's a curious character! *Sounds* very selfish, but there are also signs of good character intermixed.

Another bit I also really liked was the ending with Sun Wukong's naming. It's… I don't know, I just love names, meanings, the power in giving a name, the respect in accepting it, the valor of living up to it… And even just the process! I love how the family name was chosen! The working through it and analysing it to make it a *good* name! Starting with *what* he is, always taking out the animal radical because he is aspiring to be more than that, and making sure it's not inauspicious. The given name starts with a generational character and I love that! How it connects him to his master, but also to his fellow disciples! Not a family, but like a family in a sense. I get Sun Wukong being excited to get his name, because how can you not be happy to be named with such thought?

Oops, this got long, sorry about that! I just got excited about starting the story and liking the chapter already, finding things I get and also some I'd like to know more about. It makes me look forward to the next chapter even more! Thanks for starting this project and inspiring me to read the book! (And giving me an idea which translation to trust! I haven't found one in Spanish I'm actually confident about, so I'm glad at least there's one in English!)

Regarding the man that couldn't take the path, both reasons could be true. In Chinese culture, filial piety is one of the most revered concept. Confucius is the one to blame for that. Besides that, searching for illumination is a difficult path because you have to practice detachment from the world and sacrifice many other things, such as living with you family, and it's not for everyone. That's why there are lay Buddhists and then monks/nuns. Sun Wukong's path would be more similar to that of a monk.

Unrelated to the book, but I want to recommend two media's about Buddhism. First, the podcast The Way Out is In and the book Siddhartha by Herman Hesse.

Finally, I'll recommend you a translation in Spanish because it is my native language as well.

Pre-modern China was NOT!! NOT NOT static at ALL!!!!!!!!!! I have no idea how this intensely racist impression from the 1800s has lasted to this day. I get that many China scholars focus on a small timeframe or only modern day, but China's culture and society were constantly changing moving growing etc. the very concept of 'traditional' is potentially ambiguous. From values to religion to philosophy to language to gender expectations and relations, everything changed all the time! Confucious was not the only philosopher there were many rising and falling over the years, Legalism Daoism Mohism etc. The role and rights of women also changed a lot depending on the dynasty, it's commonly known that Tang dynasty was a high point in women's rights (and also a time when muscular men and fat women were more popular than their slender scholar/maiden counterparts) and that the following Song dynasty saw a backlash that made women's rights even worse than before the Tang (this was the birth of foot binding) but the role and concept of genders were constantly in flux other times as well.

how far the borders of a dynasty expanded isn't the defining factor of how great or worthwhile the dynasty was. Most openly expansionist and imperial dynasty =/= automatic greatest dynasty! China is incredible and I love it very much yes and it's the birthplace of many great inventions and a huge regional power as well as constantly on the forefront of development for most of history, however, it's not like... necessarily unique in its existence? This goes both ways btw, it wasn't uniquely a victim or uniquely an aggressor, it's not uniquely evil or uniquely good. Like I find people either go 'people don't understand that it was a victim of imperialism and got conquered a bunch, everyone just wants to say its an aggressor' or 'people don't understand it was a major imperial power and conquered a bunch, everyone just wants to say its a victim' so on and so forth. Like, they're both true, and it's not unique as a victim (so was anyone else who fell victim to any expanding power in the west or anywhere else) nor is it unique as an aggressor (so was basically every other major and semi-major group in history that annexed surrounding land and went to war with other expanding powers over influence around them) and that doesn't take away from the importance or impacts of either and people should be able to discuss it but just like... context is important I guess. History is messier than people think and should be approached as such.
