wait I do want to elaborate a bit more on what the sweetest spot for reading new spring is:

if you want siuraine -> after TGH or after TSR but before TFOH if you want to make the most of the angst

if you want aes sedai politics and are too impatient to wait until LOC -> anytime after EOTW but preferably after TGH

if you want to learn about the hunt for the dragon reborn and exactly the pains that moiriane and siuan went through to find him after reading their interaction in TGH -> after TGH or TDR or TSR

if you want the wondergirls shenanigans parallels with siuan and moiraine about their time in the tower -> after TGH

if you want the rand and moiraine parallels to really hit -> before TSR or TFOH which are THE moiraine/rand parallels books

if you want to read more backstory about moiraine’s family, history etc before she accompanies rand to Cairhien in TFOH -> after TSR

if you want to feel sadder about moiraine’s relationship with lan and siuan -> after TFOH

if you want context and history for certain aes sedai that start to feature prominently after the first half of the series (and specifically, who play a more significant role from ACOS onwards) -> after LOC

but reading it whenever you feel like doing so also works - when you should Ideally read it is not really a big deal like the fandom makes it out to be. having read the series though, I think I’m personally biased towards reading it before or after TFOH because it fits under most of the above criteria while also having the added benefit of getting to read it along with the best books in the series (TSR & TFOH) meaning you get to extend your streak of reading the best part of the series.

#also my interest in moiraine and lan kind of petered away by the time I got to COT due to lack of Content so it’s probably best to read it #soon after TFOH if not before #wheel of time #text #I also think listing worlbuilding you haven’t been introduced to yet as a reason for putting off the book is kind of silly #as a person who read it after tdr. I promise you can read it whenever you want but the escalating scale of worldbuilding might be easier #on you if you ideally pick it ip after tgh or tdr because that’s when the books really find their footing

Currently reading Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World and I’m finding it soooo boring T_T I’ve gotten like 15% of the way through and restarted like 3 times, thinking that maybe I’ll enjoy it more if I pay better attention, but nah. I’m paying as much attention as I possibly can. It’s just a slog.

#not giving up on it yet though I don’t think I’ll give up on it at all I’ve finished books that were way worse than this #I always wanted to read this since I was in middle school and never got around to it #so now I’m happy to report to my child self that we really haven’t been missing out 😴

Almost one year since I read the left hand of darkness that was so fun

#finished it right as a massive cold snap hid that was an experience #rrrraahfggfhghhhh i want to reread that book so bad actually. unfortunately my tbr is too massive to add any rereads on right now #(can only read consistently on school breaks)#let’s see. the new murderbot book is the main thing i want to read. i’d also like to read dawn by octavia butler and the rest of atwood’s #madaddam trilogy. there’s a quartet of sci-fi books i got for christmas last year that i haven’t been able to start yet i’d love to do that #i’d also really love to reread the insignia trilogy but sadly. that might be difficult as you can see #sigh. i’m hoping so desperately that once i graduate i’ll have more time to read but i fear the school stress will probably just be replace #with a new type of stress unfortunately #EDIT: PERCY JACKSON TOO AAAAAAAH #and that one has a deadline rip

halfway through Shiver… even my ironic enjoyment of this is very low atm :/. Will be finishing the book but it would take something Major in the last 50% to get me interested in reading the sequels, so

#Mr Ripley may be on there for Adam Parrish so what I want to read it at some point regardless. my current fixation just elevated interest #Scorpio Races is another book I DNFed in middle school but unlike Shiver I had nothing actively against it I just think I wasn’t in the moo #then I have the three books I thought would be my main tbr for Easter break but haven’t gotten too yet.#and then GTN reread which it does feel too soon but also not and I do really want to reread all three books since with tlt ik that could be #really beneficial #s speaks #s reads shiver #polls #in theory Scorpio races is a lot more my type of book than Shiver is. some of these things I noted down in the form of a twt thread as I was reading and some of it is just off the top of my head the morning after finishing the book. for the next book i think imma make more notes in my phone of my thoughts as I read but we’ll see, I usually forget or cba bc I’m too interested in what’s happening lmao

I was worried about it being in first person bc that isn’t my usual vibe but i kinda didn’t end up giving a fuck which is great for me

for a minute every time feyre’s name was mentioned I took a second to pronounce it properly in my head which is kinda embarrassing

I was kinda bracing myself to have to read a ton of smut but there wasn’t much in it which I’m happy about. I fear there will be more in later books tho and like, that is not my fave like smut is just so cringe to me most of the time but it was defo better written than like 85% of the fanfic smut I’ve read in my life tho so at least there’s that. and I can deal with some smut for a good story

when feyre got taken and was seemingly living in a massive house with two hot guys i was like oh i feel like I know where this is going (and braced for the book to become smut central) but that didn’t happen lmao

by chapter 6 I was like lucien > tamlin and i felt that way for the entire book. lucien is like kinda sarcastic and twatty which I loved and it made sense bc he obviously didn’t like feyre and just had to put up with her but even later in the book when all the info is out there he’s still just cooler somehow idk. tamlin is nice enough but he’s kinda boring to me

at one point tamlin said to feyre ‘do you have some sort of problem with me’ and i was like bro 😭 what a wild question to ask a girl you’ve just stolen from her home and forced to live with you are you dumb

tamlin (i think) also said ‘you can’t write yet you learned how to hunt- how?’ and i was like um what is the correlation you don’t need to write to learn how to hunt is this man stupid

I kept forgetting they were wearing masks so the first couple times it was randomly mentioned it was a bit of a jumpscare and made me laugh

the word ‘mate/mating’ was also a jumpscare the first couple of times

I sooo knew that thing was gonna be some weird sex festival and also the idea of two ppl shagging literally causing magic to ‘ripple outward’ to the point that ppl probably a decent distance away can feel it happen and know what caused it is so funny 😭 like how am I supposed to take that seriously

somewhere in there i was becoming desperate to look through the acotar tag or just do Something to quench my need to consume more to do with this series so i started looking up acotar reading threads on twitter in the hopes I wouldn’t get spoiled bc i just wouldn’t read the threads past where I was in the book but I ended up coming across two separate posts (that I don’t even really remember the details of) that seemed to like rhysand and where I was in the book he’d literally just shown up to the house and they called him a whore and stuff so I was like hm interesting that ppl like him bc he seems like a twat. made me intrigued for sure but also was sad to be mildly spoiled bc it just made me start anticipating some rhys redemption or just some kind of focus that I tbh hadn’t even considered at that point

but anyways rhysand > lucien > tamlin

I liked nestas little redemption. I’m glad we didn’t spend too long back with the family tho

the second there was a mention of a curse I was like uh oh I feel like her not saying I love you back to tamlin has caused some kind of problem. me when I’m a genius / me when this book is predictable. either way I liked it, it’s giving beauty and the beast

my initial guesses for the riddle after reading it twice were - love, a heart or god

the tasks were giving goblet of fire for a minute there

rhysand mentioned he could turn into a bird and five seconds later I realised the second book has a bird on the cover so I’m hoping I’ve connect some dots there bc I’m very interested to know more about him fr

why do I have like a mild want/hope that feyre is gonna leave tamlin for rhysand like… that’s kinda the dream. it might be to do with when I searched and saw mild spoilers bc there was art of a guy and a girl that I looked at for half a second and thinking about it now I’m like was that rhysand and feyre in the first book? was it them later down the line? was it rhysand and someone else? idfk. rhys defo has like mild unsettling vibes so idk if that’s a thing that could happen but maybe now that everyone is free he’ll start being less gross

I was worried the whole book was gonna be them at the mansion so feyre going home for a bit and then the back end of the book being set somewhere completely different was pretty cool, I think I liked the last section of the book more than the first, likely bc of rhys, the lucien pop ins and the fact tamlin had to keep his distance 😭 that sounds mean I swear i do like him and them as a duo I just find the others more interesting

every mention of things like claws coming out of knuckles or whatever is baffling to me, I cannot picture it in my mind at all it

feyre becoming one of them is pretty cool

rhysand is SO interesting like omg tell me your secrets. when he first started helping feyre I was like hm maybe he’s like not happy to be amarantha’s whore and he’s gonna be in their side and that’s kinda what happened but also he’s not like fully a nice guy idk UGH please let book two be focused on him a lot I need it so bad

I honestly just had a fun time reading this and spare for all these names and lore that I still defo do not have a full grasp on it was just an easy read idk, I enjoyed it. at points I was like oh this feels very fanfic-y which for me could be a good thing or could be a bad thing but this kind toed the line and I was like idk I mean it in a good way or a bad way. in the end imma say a good way bc I did give it 4.5 stars so 😭

uodate: been a few hours and I've watched cari can read's vid going through this book bc idk I felt like it and also wanted to make sure I understood everything and I have a couple more notes

I forgot about that ending rhysand moment like.. what's going on there

I didn't really even bat an eye at how rhysand was drugging feyre every night basically like obviously I'm not dumb, it was fucked up, but it apparently being a big subject among fans didn't even cross my mind as being a thing. like, the yeah the way feyre rationalises it as 'well at least time is moving quickly and I'm not remembering what I'm doing' and rhysand I guess also is like 'hopefully tamlin will be greatful that 1. I haven't touched her really and 2. I'm helping her forget and get through it is' messed up but like, that's *their* povs, I don't think the book is tryna say that's actually a good situation or a correct/healthy way to look at things. idk why it's drama worthy. maybe it's worded questionably in the book idr. I'll pay attention if/when I reread I guess

speaking of bat(ting eyes)... rhysand isn't a bird he's a bat? 😭 so the cover of the next book defo isn't him rip my dreams. I assume he'll be around tho like, he'll have to be

I actually LOVE how a lot of this book is just pure vibes like feyre's time at the mansion or whatever where most of the time nothing too crazy was happening spare for the odd moment is my kinda vibe. and then even in the back half of the book when all this shit is going on there still a lot of sitting around in her cell and her chatting (mainly with rhys) idk, I like it a lot

One more Percy Jackson post before I shove it back into the deep dark crevices of my mind once more. I just really need to say that Riordan should’ve stopped PJO at the first series and just done stuff like the Kane Chronicles where it’s the same world and shit but you let the old characters go and introduce new ones with new mythologies. Like best example is how Magnus Chase is just randomly related to Annabeth so you can justify Percy and her showing up even though it was already established that mythologies stay away from each other back in Kane Chronicles.

Although it might just be I’m bitter and old but I really think he peaked with PJO and Kane chronicles and the later stuff suffers from overusing characters that have finished character arcs who then get wrung out like wet towels so there’s something interesting for them to do.

I don’t even know why I’m still talking about this. Actually it’s probably cause none of my irl friends ever read anything other than Jack Reacher, Comics and sportsmen biographies so this is the only place to talk about it. Actually it’s also probably cause I’m trying to avoid the waffle stage of writing the ending to the last chapter of Fate/Hero before the reboot

#bridge to terabithia 1985 this is about YOU #god it started out looking just like the book but then everything went down hill with the kids actors #they had no emotion behind what they were saying and they said it without meaning and said it too fast #yes I know child actors were different back then but like #leslie was so not compelling that I didn’t even cry at *that* part #haven’t watched the 2007 movie yet but I really hope it’s better because I read my childhood copy of bridge to terabithia so so sooo much-#- when I was a kid so I really love the story and just want to see it done right #hopefully the 2007 movie makes me cry :)

Hua Cheng essentially cockblocking himself for possibly all of eternity will literally never not be the funniest thing MXTX ever wrote.

Xie Lian was pretty much completely in love with him the second he saw those lanterns (and completely oblivious about it) and then we get the wonderful first kiss underwater moment and Xie Lian is basically drawing hearts around Hua Cheng every time he sees him. While like quietly dying cause he literally has no idea what to do with it. Like at this point he doesn’t even really understand that he is head over heels totally gone for this man.

Until Hua Cheng is like I have a beloved I just haven’t won them over yet. Which he thinks is perfectly reasonable because his self esteem is the worst and he doesn’t understand how he could have won Xie Lian over yet. (He’s only on step 22 of his Marrying Dianxia 3000 step Master Plan ((that he debates throwing out on a regular basis because he doesn’t deserve to even dream about wanting Xie Lian)). So course he’s like yeah I have this wonderful noble beautiful beloved I just haven’t won them over yet wink wink nudge nudge.

But Xie Lian is like oh of course obviously I don’t deserve nice things and fuck I actually wanted him so badly I’m actually in love with him and now I will resign myself to never being happy for his sake. (Their combined self esteem is truly a so low it’s a hole in the ground which is hilarious because they think the other person is to good for them and unattainable forever because they literally have the same neurosis.) So he starts boxing up his feelings forever constantly wanting Hua Cheng and feeling guilty about it and literally dying inside because he wants Hua Cheng like he’s never wanted anyone.

Like essentially books 3 and 5 only happen because Hua Cheng has now cursed them both by saying he has a beloved because Xie Lian believes he isn’t wanted and therefore any nice thing Hua Cheng does is just him being nice and not Hua Cheng pulling out steps 23-34 of his plan thinking he still hasn’t won Xie Lian over. (He has he so has but he shot himself in the foot so badly it’s painful to read).

Like thank the Gods Hua Cheng is so unhinged and created the cave of 10000 Gods cause Xie Lian would literally be at his own wedding to Hua Cheng still convinced he wanted someone else and this was in fact a thing they were doing to solve a case together otherwise.

Like he needed something that unhinged to put 2 and 2 together otherwise he never would have caught on he’s Hua Cheng’s beloved. Meanwhile Hua cheng is like 🥺 he’s going to think I’m a weirdo now and I’m only on step 50 of the plan 🥺 like the two of them wouldn’t have been fucking nasty 2 books ago if he just kept his mouth shut and didn’t cockblock himself so violently.
