Welcome to the Dungeons of Fear and Hunger.
#Fear and Hunger#D'arce Cataliss#Cahara#Ragnvaldr#Enki Ankarian#Unlike Dungeon Meshi - I cannot in good faith recommend this game to a broad audience.#My background with F&H goes as follows: I am hanging out with a friend. He says “hey try this game I've been playing.” I say “Okay!”#I have never heard of this game. I pick the mercenary. I go through 5 min of character history and background. I am mauled to death by dogs#It took me 4 resets to even get in the dungeon. But I finally get there. I am caught by a guard. He cuts off all but one of my limbs#I am forced to crawl around in a blood and corpse pit until the game tells me 'give up idiot'.#I reset. I am mauled by dogs again. I realize this is not for me but I am intrigued enough to go home and watch some playthroughs#And WOW what an interesting game it is! I really do appreciate games that blend their design philosophy with the theme it wants to set#This is a game about fear and hunger. And persevering. And penis (my god is there a lot of penis)#I recommend this to people who like extremely challenging games and can handle the many *content warnings* within this series#If the idea of Bloodborne/eldenring and undertale having a little RPG maker baby sounds appealing to you - give it a shot#It's made by ONE GUY and it's a great horror game. I am just really bad at it.#My friends just enjoy putting me in situations where I scream and yell. We don't talk about the corn mazes. Or the other horror game nights#Apparently I'm funny when I'm Scared!#As people who follow me on twitter might know; I am deep in the pits of this series right now. I will be back with more art.

Chapter 6: Birds of a Feather (Section 5)
"Lord Eliwood! New enemy on your right!"
"Thanks, Bartre!"
"Anytime! I got your back!!"
Upon hearing Lowen’s report, Eliwood had swiftly given out orders.
After having received his orders, Bartre immediately turned towards an enemy and rushed over to them.
But no matter how many they defeated as they continued on, the ruffians kept coming one after the other, and attacking Eliwood’s group all out. At their current rate, they would become unable to support each other any longer. In that scenario, it was possible that some of them might lose their lives.
"Just who are they? Why are they after us?" Eliwood asked.
"Lord Eliwood, prioritize defeating the enemies in front of you right now. We can think about their identities after the fight!" Marcus shouted as he swung his lance.
Eliwood nodded at his words and raised his rapier once more.
They were currently on the border between Pherae and Santaruz.
Eliwood, having defeated the bandits and heard of the threatening actions being taken in Laus from the village magistrate, first decided to go to Laus. To get from Pherae to Laus, they had to pass through Santaruz, sandwiched between them.
Past Santaruz is Laus, and past Laus is Ostia. Elbert was said he was going to Ostia, then disappeared. He would have had to go through both Santaruz and Laus on his way to Ostia.
Meaning that there may be some clues in Santaruz as well.
Fortunately, Helman, Marquess of Santaruz, was friends with Elbert, and Eliwood also knew him very well. If they met with him directly and asked for his assistance, he would undoubtedly help them.
And with that thought, Eliwood explained to the guard at the border checkpoint that they were seeking to pass through Santaruz and meet with Helman.
However, after waiting for some time, they were surrounded by this large group of ruffians.
"There are people who find it troublesome that this boy is alive. It is a pity, but we will kill him!" One of them said, then they attacked without waiting for any response.
Eliwood went with Marcus and Lowen right behind him, followed by the two mercenary fighters Dorcus and Bartre. Rebecca came in as their rear guard, who they'd allowed to travel with them after she asked if she could help.
They were all skilled, brave fighters. Though they would never fall to the likes of such scoundrels, the enemy's numbers were so great that, combined with their mounting exhaustion from their travels, they were gradually being closed in on.
"More enemies are coming in from the forest to the left!"
"Lowen and I will be the vanguard, Marcus the left flank, and Bartre and Dorcas the right flank. Rebecca will support us by shooting arrows from the rear! The enemy's numbers are not infinite. Hold out, everyone! Do not give up!" Eliwood gave his orders in a loud voice to boost his allies' morale.
They all pulled together their remaining strength together as best they could, but they really could not hide their exhaustion, and their movements were becoming visibly dulled.
They were all covered in sweat, and their overworked muscles ached.
Still, Eliwood did not rest, stabbing his rapier into the next enemy that came at him.
But the moment he tried to pull his rapier out of their body, the sweat covering the palm of his dominant hand caused his weapon to slip out of his grip.
The enemy, still impaled with the rapier, fell backwards onto the ground.
"No! Dammit!" Eliwood tried to hurry and pick it up, but no enemy was so kind as to overlook such an opportunity to strike.
"You think we'd just let you get that?!" One of the ruffians swiftly stepped between Eliwood and the body his rapier was stuck in, then swung his steel sword. "Die!"
"Lord Eliwood, look out!" Lowen, fighting alongside him, had his own enemy in front him, and could not run over to Eliwood.
Eliwood succeeded in avoiding the first attack by a hair. It was not like him to lose his weapon, body on the verge of collapse, giving a ruffian the upper hand.
As he narrowly dodged the first attack, he silently surveyed his surroundings. It led him to notice that the sword of the now dead ruffian to his right had fallen next to him on the ground.
'Yes! There's my chance!'
In a split second decision, he jumped to the right to dodge the second attack, then immediately picked up the sword, now at his feet.
"Dammit! You just don't know when to give up, do you, noble brat?!" The ruffian cursed and made a broad swing of his sword.
Eliwood immediately shifted into a battle stance with his new sword and tried to counter attack.
But a split second later, the ruffian suddenly stopped mid swing. "Guh…!" Fresh blood spurted out of his mouth, and he collapsed.
Eliwood was bewildered, having no idea what happened.
However, when he saw the person that appeared from behind the fallen ruffian, all of his questions were answered.
"Hey, Eliwood! Was that one yours?"
Tumblr media
"Yes, but I'm still grateful, Hector!" A bright smile entirely unfit for a battlefield stretched across his face.
"Whew, it's finally over."
After defeating all of the ruffians that attacked his friend, Hector was able to catch his breath at long last.
Having successfully snuck out of Castle Ostia along with Matthew, he ordered Matthew to gather information, tracked down Eliwood’s movements, and traveled through the night to reach him.
“Hey, Eliwood! It’s been a while!”
“Why are you here?”
Hector answered Eliwood’s question with a serious look on his face. “...You’re so cold, Eliwood! You’re searching for your father, aren’t you? Then you should have told me!”
“But this is a critical period for Ostia as you reestablish the government with Lord Uther as the new marquess, isn’t it? As his younger brother, you should be supporting him. He needs you.”
“Brother is no weak man! He said I need to be thinking of the future, or whatever… But he knows every move I make, so he must have let me slip away." Hector said, then went back to smiling.
“I see… Then I will take advantage of Lord Uther’s kindness. Thank you, Hector. It is very reassuring to have you here.”
“You can count on me for anything!”
Eliwood swiftly extended a hand, and Hector shook it with one of his own giant hands.
Eliwood knew not what troubles awaited them, but if he had his closest friend with him, then he would be able to overcome any danger. Though he had no proof to support that reasoning, he was sure of it.
As the two were rekindling their old bonds of friendship, a knight walked up to them. “It’s good to see you again after so long, Lord Eliwood.”
“You’re here as well, Oswin?”
“Yes. Lord Uther was worried about Hector being on his own, and ordered me to watch over him.”
As soon as Hector and Matthew had made it out of the castle, Oswin and one other person had chased after him. They had caught up to Hector immediately after he entered Santaruz territory, and fought the ruffians alongside them to assist Eliwood as well.
"Ha ha ha, no surprise there! We're fortunate to have you join us."
Oswin gave his own greeting with a smile. Then, they heard the shrill voice of a young woman who did not fit at all in this scene.
"Grrr! Lord Hector, if the battle is over, then come get us!!”
"Sorry, to do this in the middle of your conversation. I couldn't stop her any longer!" A man said.
Everyone looked in the direction of the voice and saw a young woman dressed in the pure white garb of St. Elimine’s Church. When Oswin chased after Hector, he’d brought her with him at Uther’s orders. And next to her was a casually dressed man who hung his head in Hector and Eliwood’s direction with an apologetic look on his face.
"Who are they, Hector?"
"Ah… I'll say for now that they came with me. I would have preferred better companions, but…”
"You're so terrible! What are you saying?! Did you hear him, Matthew? How could he say such a thing to you?"
"Hey, c'mon, you're the only person being like this…"
They conversed with each other as if they were a true comedic duo on stage, with Serra as the funny character and Matthew the straight character.
It made Eliwood curious about just who they were. “Would you mind introducing them to me?”
"The loud one is Serra. She may not look it, but she is a cleric." Hector explained.
"Hiiiii, I'm Serra! It's nice to meet youuuu!" Upon Hector's introduction, Serra greeted them cheerfully.
Indeed, if asked what a cleric is typically like, one would give the image of a gentle or modest person. However, this woman hid such strength within her that she shattered that image.
That was the impression that Eliwood got.
"And he's Matthew. He does work from within the shadows."
"Nice to meet ya!"
"He works within… the shadows?"
There was no such position like "spy" in Pherae.
As such, Eliwood had never heard the term before, and questioned about it.
"I do everything from gathering information to opening the locks on doors and chests." Matthew explained.
"...That's what a thief does. Isn't it…?"
"Eh, don't sweat that small stuff."
"But…!"
Eliwood raised his voice in very earnest protest, but Hector waved a hand in the air and said, "This journey… is going to be much more difficult than we anticipated. I'm sure of it. If we just say the nice things, then we won't make it home alive."
Eliwood gasped. "Hector? Do you know something?" He reacted strongly to the deeper meaning in Hector's words.
"...I don't know much about what's gonna happen, but I've been hearing nothing but weird rumors lately. That Bern's assassins are making suspicious movements within Lycia, that skilled mercenaries are going missing… stuff like that."
"...Now that you say that, the men who attacked us earlier said something of interest as well."
"What was it?"
"Their group… I thought they were brigands of some kind, but the man I believe to have been their leader said there are people who find it inconvenient that I still live…"
"Hm… This stinks of something strong. And now that I think about it, the person on guard here acted strangely, too. You, a noble, was attacked right before his eyes, yet he knowingly tried to see you killed."
Those words made Eliwood close his eyes and put him in deep thought.
Marquess Helman of Santaruz was good friends with his father Elbert, and as neighboring territories, both Pherae and Santaruz had been close allies since long ago.
It was unthinkable for a soldier of Santaruz to overlook a child of Marquess Pherae being attacked.
'Could… Lord Helman possibly have something to do with Father's disappearance?'
He had memories of Helman spoiling him since he was a child. Though Helman was a bit timid, he was a good-natured Marquess, and Eliwood did not want to be suspicious of him.
To dispel his mounting doubts, Eliwood decided within his heart that he had no other choice than to meet with Helman.

OC: ANDREI KULOKOVA - NSFW ALPHABET
18 + ahead. Andrei is a freak and I cannot stop thinking about him so he needed this post badly.. hope you enjoy 🔪💕
MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
A = Aftercare (what they’re like after sex)
Usually Andrei is very attentive after sex, especially after a particularly rough session. He will clean you of any blood, kiss your bruises and cuts, stroke your hair and call you his perfect little mouse.
B = Body part (their favorite body part of theirs and also their partner’s)
His own favorite body part would have to be his hands and his teeth. Andrei’s hands are very skillful, and he likes to work with them any chance he gets either for murder or for love. The man has extremely sharp canine teeth that he loves to bite, plus Andrei knows it makes him sexier and more animalistic.
Andrei loves his partners neck and back. He goes wild if you have short hair or have your hair up, he will just sit there watching your back and neck as you make him dinner, loving how the muscles move and flex, adoring every bone in your back rise and fall, they’re just so breakable. It feeds his feral side if he sees you faulting the mark he has given you.
C = Cum (anything to do with cum, basically)
This boy likes it messy, big time messy. It is almost like an animalistic desire to see you covered in him and even yourself, if you mix a little blood in there too, oh boy, you’ve unlocked feral Andrei. He does also have a huge breeding kink and he will fill you up one thousand times over, finger you watching it ooze and drip, then rubbing it all over you and him. Andrei is nasty. He might even eat you out while your dripping his cum out of you.
D = Dirty secret (pretty self explanatory, a dirty secret of theirs)
He secretly wants to be a sub but it will take a long, long time for him to get there and be comfortable being a switch. Andrei loves his partners to ride him and that is his submissive side wanting to be released, but he will always act as if he is in control.
E = Experience (how experienced are they? do they know what they’re doing?)
Andrei is defiantly experienced in sex, but in a relationship, that’s a bit different. He is very good at sex and he knows it, but he tends to be a little selfish and loose himself, just jackhammering into you. Often Andrei has “fun” with his prey and has paid more than he would like to admit for a good time.
F = Favorite position (this goes without saying)
Missionary, doggy or having his partner ride him. Missionary is by far his favorite, Andrei wants, needs, to feel you writhe under him, he wants you to look him in the eyes as you cum, and feeling your pulse under his fingers.
G = Goofy (are they more serious in the moment? are they humorous? etc.)
Andrei is a very serious man in every way, and sex is often very intense, there is no room or enough air to laugh, but after a long time of being together he has a strange silly side to him. Especially if you catch him off guard with a joke he doesn't quite understand, "You are interesting little mouse" or Andrei's sadistic humor comes out when you jump a little too much at the flick of his knife.
H = Hair (how well groomed are they? does the carpet match the drapes? etc.)
Andrei is not a hairy man by any means, so he is very fortunate enough to let his hair go and it is still only a medium amount of hair. Not overly long, curly light brown, but he likes to keep it under control for the most part. Andrei also has a little treasure trail.
I = Intimacy (how are they during the moment? the romantic aspect)
Now Andrei has no clue how to be romantic, it is never something anyone had ever shown him, so keeping you alive, living together and sex is his romance. Andrei is very intense in the bedroom and will kiss and love you there but outside of the bedroom, you might have to help him. Intimacy can be hard because he is very touched starved, the small touches and gentle kisses is something that is hard for him, so don’t be mad if you go hold Andrei’s hand and he pulls away. You need to teach him a lot in this department. His favorite thing is holding you though, either sweeping you off your feet or holding you on his lap, man loves it.
J = Jack off (masturbation headcanon)
Andrei is a horny man who is gone a lot from home so of course he jacks off. Sometimes even if you’re at home he will call you into the bedroom and will just be fisting his cock smirking at you
K = Kink (one or more of their kinks)
This guy has so so many but his top favorites are blood, breath play, knives, predator/prey, breeding, daddy, fear play and bondage. He is a creative man with a lot of time on his hands.
L = Location (favorite places to do the do)
Andrei will literally take you anywhere he damn pleases, from the field to the abandoned buildings to any surface in the house. He lives in the middle of nowhere so why bother trying to hide.
M = Motivation (what turns them on, gets them going)
This guy is horny 89% of the time, so just always watch your back for the wolf lurking in the house. Your new pair of jeans that hug your ass just right? careful. Batting your lashes when looking up at him? watch out. If you really want him to get going, get yourself something sliky and lacy that puts your body on display, straddle his lap with one of his knives in hand, holy shit Andrei will lose it.
N = No (something they wouldn’t do, turn offs)
Andrei honestly doesn't have many no's and he will try it at least once before saying no. Absolutely no mommy kinks, given his past. Humiliation is a big no, he will never do it to you and you should never do it to him. Overly dominating him in his life, if you are worthy enough to see his sub side only use that in the bedroom, if you take that into every day life by ordering him around or asking for certain tasks done he is going to be very annoyed and pissed off. With you Andrei only wants a few simple things like cleaning his house, making him dinner and cuddling on the couch, other than that you are a free person, he won't try to really control you much. Just don't be stupid by leaving or putting yourself in danger or else his control and overbearingness comes out.
O = Oral (preference in giving or receiving, skill, etc.)
Now Andrei loves to see his s/o writhe, whimper and beg for him. It's an animalistic need. And he is stupidly perfect with his tongue and his hands are extremely skillful. You will have a great time with him going down on you, just watch his teeth if he gets too carried away and he loves to tease and edge so he might be down there a while. However Andrei doesn't go down on you too often because he knows he just that good, and he's an ass. But if you thought just because he doesn't go down on you often means you are off the hook?? Nope. He has a huge thing for getting his dick sucked and he's going to make you do it constantly.. sorry.
P = Pace (are they fast and rough? slow and sensual? etc.)
Andrei is a delicious, addicting mix of both in a way. He might edge and tease with foreplay for hours but the wolf is going to intensely and roughly ruin you, but if he is switches positions with you he likes to take it slow for a minute just watching you, praising and stroking your hair, probably wiping a tear or blood away, then back to impaling you. It's a true battle between the wolf and Andrei all they time.
Q = Quickie (their opinions on quickies, how often, etc.)
He is a big fan, mainly just because he is horny a lot and has a lot of work to do. It's and instant anger/stress relief for him. But at the end of the day if you can quiet his mind enough Andrei enjoys watching you to crumble slowly under his hands and go for a long, long session.
R = Risk (are they game to experiment? do they take risks? etc.)
He is an ex soldier and mercenary, of course he's a risk taker. Andrei, like I said before, likes to try stuff at least once before saying no. Also being with him everyday is a risk in general, with all his knives and blood obsession.
S = Stamina (how many rounds can they go for? how long do they last?)
This guy has stamina for days. You would think with all the cigarettes he smokes he would be dead in 10 minutes, but boy were you wrong. His hunts can go on for 10 hours or more sometimes, so you are at least in for 3-5 rounds at a time. If Andrei has been gone on a mission for a month or so and comes home you are not leaving the bedroom (or where ever he wants to fuck you) for at least 2 days.
T = Toys (do they own toys? do they use them? on a partner or themselves?)
He doesn't necessarily like toys to make you or himself cum but for teasing he will totally be down for it. Andrei rather just use his mouth or hands. Skin on skin is what he likes.
U = Unfair (how much they like to tease)
Andrei adores teasing so much, he wants to break you down, bulid you back up then pick you apart again and again. He will put a plug in you all day just making sure you're ready for whenever he chooses to come home. Edging you is his favorite past time, he will do it until you cry and he will wipe the tears away and say "you're so beautiful myshka"
V = Volume (how loud they are, what sounds they make, etc.)
He is not very talkative in his everyday life but man is a huge dirty talker when getting into it. He also produces wolf like growls deep within his throat creating the most sinful and sexual noise you had ever heard
W = Wild card (a random headcanon for the character)
Silly drunk Andrei is my personal favorite, and it doesn't happen often at all so take it and run with it. He will start Russian dancing and almost failing over telling you watch him and learn, its very serious to him that you watch. He will also start singing old Russian songs from his childhood, loudly and wildly. Love and cherish this Andrei.
X = X-ray (let’s see what’s going on under those clothes)
Man is a big boy all the way through, even below the belt. A good 7 inches and thicker than average. Circumcised with a beautiful rosey head, and 2 large veins running the length.
Y = Yearning (how high is their sex drive?)
Man wants to go literally all the time. He has an inhuman sex drive. If you just tell him you want him Andrei drops everything and bends you over the nearest surface.
Z = Zzz (how quickly they fall asleep afterwards)
Andrei has a hard time sleeping and winding down. His active mind just will not stop, so he really enjoys just watching you sleep on his chest, being gentle with his hands along your body and in your hair. If you don't fall asleep very fast either now is the perfect time to talk with him, get stories of his missions, Russian folk tales, funny stories about his brothers in the military and brutal childhood. He just wants someone to share his pain and his love with at the end of the night. Run your hands along his scars and in his hair while you're at it and you will have tamed a wolf.

Tumblr media
A Kylo Ren x Modern! Reader in a soulmate au with some canon divergence. —————————————SLOWBURN————————————–
He is already the Supreme leader, searching the universe to find you, his Empress. Your name on his wrist has been the only constant in his life, while you have doubts about his existence and his acceptance of you. He isn’t in the database and why did the name Kylo Ren cover Ben Solo?

Chapter 2: An Arrival to be Remembered
UFO has been sited entering the Earth’s atmosphere
Unknown armed and masked being exit ship heading towards the White House, is the President in danger?
Aliens spotted in D.C.
You woke up to the sound of your alarm, and got out of bed. You have been in the habit lately to start your day without checking your phone first. Mostly to avoid early morning emails from your boss before you have even had coffee.
You head to the bathroom relieve yourself, wash your face, and brush your hair. Exiting the bathroom you head to the kitchen and make yourself some breakfast and coffee. You enjoy the sunrise through the large windows in your apartment. Finishing eating you immediately wash your few dishes and get ready for work. You pick out your work ‘uniform’ of a black blouse and black trousers. You head to the bathroom to brush your teeth, put on a little makeup and get changed.
Heading back to the kitchen you prepare a to-go cup of coffee and pull out your lunch for work. Finally, you check your phone.
First, you see an email from your boss reminding you for the 10th time about the morning meeting that you have every Thursday. It isn’t like you to forget something you do every single week for the past year. Never once have you been late, in fact, he was always the one to forget. You wonder if these emails were meant more for him and less for you. But he was always the micromanager.
Next, you check your texts. Your usual morning photo from one of your siblings about one of your nieces/nephews. Another one from Hayden asking if you were still on for tomorrow night’s weekly bar trip. You answered ‘Yes 😀 .’ Another from Carter asking what you think of the news headlines this morning. Odd, although this isn’t the first time you two had discussed something like this it was odd to receive a text like this from them first thing in the morning.
You open Twitter to see #alieninvasiondc trending. You scroll through the news tag. Every major news site around the world is talking about the shuttlecraft that landed on the White House lawn last night, and the armed and armored soldiers that departed from the craft. All of the soldiers wore white armor, except one in silver. There was one who was in all black and a red-haired human-looking man among the group. Not much is known other than they haven’t been seen leaving the White House.
You text Carter back ‘Just looked now, either this is a hoax or the world as we know it is coming to an end. I’ll see you at work.’
You packed your work bag, grabbed your car keys and set off to work. You park in the ramp attached to your building and walk to the elevator. You wave at the security attendant to the opposing skywalk like you do every morning. You arrive at your floor and buzz-in. You say hi to Nancy in reception and head to your desk.
Strangely all of the televisions in the office were muted and tuned into CBC News, normally the one in the break room and the ones in reception were on, the others only really got used during Hockey Games or events like the Olympics. Your boss was in the walkway with his attention turned to his phone.
You set down your things at your desk and boot up your work computer while setting up your laptop on its stand. You did your usual check through work emails until the 9:00 AM weekly meeting. Your boss hasn’t moved from his position in the walkway.
8:55 AM hits and you grab what you need and head to the conference room. The tv was on in here as well. The others in the Marketing department filled in after you. Your boss, Scott, had yet to move from his place in the walkway. 9:00 AM hits and you continue small talk with your co-workers, most of the conversation is directed at the events in D.C.
9:05 AM your co-worker Ally sends a Slack message to your boss. He looks up from his phone to the clock on the wall and runs into his office. After a few minutes, he rushes out and into the conference room.
“Sorry, I am late everyone the Wife is just paranoid over this Alien Invasion thing. I can’t get her to stop texting me,” he chuckles.
Ironically this isn’t the first time he has been ‘late’ to a meeting after being on the phone with his wife an hour after work already started.
Suddenly you all get an Emergency Alert System notification on all of your phones.
‘International Emergency: Please tune in to your local news broadcasting station to receive an Emergency Report.’
Scott asks, “where is the damn remote?”
Ally hands it to him, he unmutes the tv.
The headline reads: ‘President of the United States has an Important International Government Update’
Live from Washington D.C.
On the screen, it shows the President of the United States, with the silver soldier, one in all black and the red-haired man from the video of the invasion last night.
“I have an important announcement. Earth has been contacted by people from space who call themselves the First Order. The First Order has informed me that they would like to peacefully work with Earth. As long as we fully cooperate as an entire planet no harm will come to any of us. Currently, our galaxy is at war, and the First Order seeks our help, in return of offering Earth protection from a group of people called the New Republic.
They have explained to me and the U.N. as a whole that the New Republic is not to be trusted along with their mercenary army called the Resistance. It is through my decision and the decision of the U.N. that we will cooperate and join forces with the First Order to be under their protection.
All citizens of Earth in the next 7 days must register with the First Order. You will be given a citizen number, some citizens may be reassigned to work directly with the First Order. All military personal will be reassigned to be under the First Order. You should not worry as most citizens will be unaffected, life will go on as normal. As long as citizens follow these orders and any orders to come, we shall be safe,” said the President. The President moved out of the way for the man in all black and with a black mask to move to the podium.
“I am the Supreme Leader of the First Order. I promise no harm will come to those who cooperate with us. We seek to peacefully transition your planet, as you know it Earth, to a primary First Order Planet. We value honesty and loyalty, along with hard work. We strive to rebuild the Empire and to maintain order in the galaxy. That is all,” The man's voice was distorted through the mask he was wear, it sounded mechanical or digital but it had a deep sound.
The broadcast cut back to the news anchor. “Currently all citizens of earth are to report to their a local city government building or town hall within the next 7 days for First Order registration and possible reassignment. All citizens must remain calm and do as the government has directed. Any questions or concerns will be answered by local government officials and First Order personnel. All foreign citizens to Canada will follow the same protocol as citizens. All citizens are asked to bring various forms of identification, such as a Passport, driver's license, birth certificate, social insurance number card, any immunization forms, military I.D. and more. You can find a full list of required documents at the CBC website or at canada.ca. As a reminder, all citizens are urged to stay calm and to follow all orders regarding and following First Order registration. Citizens are also advised to stay tuned to local news sources for any updates.”
The conference room sat stunned at the announcement.
“Well were f*****,” said Scott. “We are all surely f*****. Who are these people to think they can just take over like that? Do they think we are just going to sit by and let them brainwash us? Let them take everything from us?”
“I don’t think we have a choice, you heard the U.S. President, the U.N. is in agreement. This is for our own safety. If you are going to go against them and get yourself killed keep us out of it,” said Daniel one of your marketing co-workers.
“I’ll talk to Henry, and see if we can all take the week off, who knows this may be the last time we even get to see our families,” and with that statement, Scott left the conference room.
You sat there not really moving, processing what you just witnessed on the tv and the confrontation between Scott and Daniel. So did the rest of your co-workers. You could tell they were all in shock, the world as you knew it was about to change, the future had shifted.
All of your phones went off again. This time it was an email from Jonathan the CEO.
‘All employees will take today, tomorrow and next week off, in order to give proper attention to the government mandate. Please be safe and I hope to see you all come -Henry G. Wells’
Everyone in the conference room got up and went to their desks. The office was silent, except for the sounds of items being put away and people gathering their things. You were almost done getting ready to go when Carter appeared next to you.
They didn’t speak, for fear of being the first one to break the ominous silence. Carter just looked at you expectantly. You finished packing up and walked with them out of the office. The elevator was packed but silent. Everyone got off and walked to their cars. Carter followed you to yours.
Keeping their voice down, almost to a whisper, they asked, “I know I texted you this morning about all this but what do you think now? Do you want to go back to your place or mine?”
You thought about it for a moment before responding, “let’s go back to mine. We can discuss it from there.”
Carter accepted your response and went to their car to leave. You followed suit. Today was not what you expected.

A/N: Trigger warning ahead. Keep in mind I’m trying to keep accurate to the attitudes of the past, including the degradation of women and girls. I am truely sorry if anything triggers something unwelcoming!
This story was made as a culmination of my despair over the death of Rick May, the man who voiced Soldier for 13 years (since 2007), who had recently died to COVID-19 almost a week ago. In a way, this is my tribute to him.
For the first time in a couple of months, you were finally going to visit your Soldier, and you couldn’t be happier about it. Being away from the team sucked majorly for you, though you thanked Miss Pauling for helping you keep in contact with them, especially Soldier. You were able to recognise the words of the patriotic American in Medic’s handwriting, considering the fact that Soldier did not know how to write.
You pulled out a small toy badge from the pack, and you almost instantly smiled at the small thing. The colour had worn away over time but its pin was mostly in mint condition.
—————————————
“THIS IS WAR MAGGOTS! THOSE GERMAN BASTARDS WILL PAY FOR FIGHTING AGAINST AMERICA!”
The shrill voice of a young and very loud boy erupted from the playground as a very large group of young boys began inventing an unrealistic reconstruction of a WW1 battlezone, much to the annoyance of a smaller group of girls who had been in the same area first.
You watched with gleeful curiosity at the boys who were rolling around in the dirt and shooting each other with stick-rifles and throwing water balloons as grenades. You wanted to join in on their fun, even if you had been denied playing with them in the past. The girls you were with began leaving, calling for your attention as you snapped back to reality after watching the makeshift battlezone for a while.
“Hey [y/n], are you coming with us or not?”
“I, um...might stick around and watch for a while longer...just to see if there is anything to laugh about later!”
“Whatever you desire, later [y/b/n]~”
They walked away from you laughing, but you didn’t care too much about it...if you didn’t think about it too much. Making sure the girls were as far away as possible, you carefully began to approach the group to ask if you can join. You had managed to avoid getting hit until a boy accidentally slammed into you, knocking you to the ground. Once your senses fixed themselves, you were hauled onto your feet by a few other boys who noticed you after your collision.
“Well well well lads, what do we have here?”
“What’s a girl like you doing over here away from the other girls?”
“I...I wanted to come and play with you...”
“Girls can’t play war, they play gross stuff like House or something!”
“Hey, here’s an idea: take off ya shorts and lift up ya skirt completely, then we’ll let you play.”
“W-what, no! That’s gross!”
“Then cry back to the girls dollface, you won’t get to play with us unless you lift your skirt up sissy!”
They began ‘encouraging’ you to do what they had asked in exchange for letting you play with them, even taunting you with all the other girls who did what they wanted and how much fun those girls had playing with them. You began to feel too overwhelmed with the demands as tears began to form, earning a laugh from the group.
“THAT IS ENOUGH FROM YOU LADIES!”
That same loud voice that you heard from earlier erupted through the group, catching your attention as well. A small boy with a pot over his head and a plastic pin badge on his shirt shoved his way through the crowd with a scowl on his face and turned to face the boys.
“This is NOT a place where you can hook up with girls! THIS IS WAR! There is no time for making goo-goo eyes and asking for favours from women, there is time only to fight and rescue the innocent from the enemy!”
“Get your head out of the fucking clouds Doe, this is make-believe idiot.”
“If she wants to play she CAN PLAY!”
“Not until she gives us what we want, she’s nothing but a coward!”
“NONSENSE! This, uh...what’s your name?”
“[y-y/n]..?” You stuttered in response, confused and upset.
“This young lady [y/n] is an innocent caught up in the War, and it is my duty as an American soldier to rescue the innocent!”
He struggled to pick you up bridal style, screaming as he ran off with you in his arms as the boys began to slowly go back to their game, disinterested in both you and your ‘rescuer’.
Once he ran far from the game, he set you on your feet and sat down to catch his breath. You hadn’t noticed your tears still falling from your face until he pulled out a handkerchief from his pocket and offered it to you.
“Mommy says it’s the right thing to do when a girl is sad.”
You took the handkerchief and wiped your tears away, shaking out a ‘thank you’ and ‘I’m sorry’ from your lips as you tried to calm down. You then found him standing in front of you with his toy badge in his hand, which had been extended towards you.
“B-but it’s yours, isn’t it?”
“You can have it for being very brave against those dogs Miss [y/n]. I’ve never seen a girl not pull her skirt up before in order to play with us. Good soldiers deserve medals!”
You wipes more tears away and gently took the toy badge from his hand, looking at it with curious eyes plagued with puffiness and tears. You looked back to the boy to see his eyes, now uncovered, who was grinning the biggest grin.
“I don’t like seeing girls sad because of other soldiers, that’s not the American way as my daddy says. If they’re being bullies to you again, count on American Army veteran Jane Doe to save the day every time!~”
———————————
Tears had streamed down your face as you looked back onto that memory. It had been the only time you had met Soldier outside of mercenary work, but it had been a memory you kept with you for so long; a memory that made you almost instantly recognise that same boy years later as a grown man. The same man you fell in love with. The same man you had wanted to see for months on end.
The van stopped as you had begun to wipe your tears away after letting them fall onto your backpack. Pinning the badge onto your shirt, you tidied up your hair and exited out of the vehicle without the pack, following Sniper through a large field filled with gravestones of the dead. You remembered burying your boyfriend’s mentor in this very same field, and how upset he had been when that day came.
If only Soldier could know how heartbroken you were when you were forced to miss his own funeral.
——————————
It had been a couple of weeks since you heard anything from Soldier directly. You only got the odd update from Demoman once a week, at least up until 2 weeks ago when the letters stopped. Your worry had done nothing to ease your mind as your thoughts plagued on the virus spreading throughout the Doublecross area, where your team was assigned merely 3 months ago. Your worry had been increasing tenfold when you received the news that 5 members of the team got infected, and battles were erupting again in Doublecross between both teams stationed there.
You wanted to do nothing more than to travel to Doublecross and be there for him, but mercenary work forced you away, and your requests for shore leave were always denied. All you could do was hope and pray and beg to whoever was out there to keep them all safe; to keep Soldier safe. The plastic badge that stayed on you 24/7 was your only source of comfort, though it did little to stop the tears that had fallen from sheer worry and panic.
You awaited for Miss Pauling to arrive with the week’s batch of letters, your current team waiting alongside with you. Miss Pauling arrived eventually and gave them all what they had wanted, leaving you with nothing more than an ever-growing worry for another week.
“Miss [l/n], I have something for you here.”
Your head perked up to those 6 words you so desperately longed hear for weeks. Getting up with hope in your eyes, you rushed over to Miss Pauling, only to have your worry return when you saw her eyes had been slightly red from...crying?
“M-Miss Pauling...?”
She straightened her posture and took out a folded document from her jacket pocket. Clearing her throat, she began reading it.
“Miss [y/n] [l/n], it has come to my attention that you had been anxious to hear of RED Soldier, Jane Doe, for weeks already. I am afraid to inform you that by the time this letter reaches you his funeral was held but yesterday.
As the only closest relative to Mister Doe as his beloved, I hereby inform you that RED Soldier Jane Doe has died in the line of duty 8 days ago.
Attached to this letter is the contents of a small ring box he had hidden in his room that was reserved for you. His personal things, split between yourself and your former team’s Demoman, will be brought to you at a later date for you to do what you please with them.
My condolences,
Administrator.”
You couldn’t believe your ears. You grabbed and re-read the letter over and over again, Miss Pauling tapping your shoulder to give you the mentioned ring box. Opening it, you saw a cheap-looking ring that was just too big for your ring finger. That broke you completely, as you collapsed in tears onto the floor, Miss Pauling kneeling beside you and holding you close in comfort.
——————————
You and Sniper approached a gravestone that had a box of scrumpy beside it. Looks like Demoman had recently been here. Sniper patted you on the shoulder before leaving you to your devices. You placed a bouquet of Soldier’s favourite flowers onto the dirt below and you sat down in front of the gravestone, your hands toying with the toy badge still pinned to your shirt, and the engagement ring that hung from a silver chain.
“...hey there Jane, I’m home at last...! I have a lot to talk to you about, so you’ll be here for a while...”
——————————————
Soldier sat with his back against his own gravestone, tears falling from his eyes as he listened to your stories and memories, memories he was able to share with you.
If there was one thing he hated about being dead, it was the fact he had been given permission to die before he got the chance to live a life with you.

Ten Of Swords- Level Three: The First Of Many
The world of Swords of Power and Conquest was one Virgil dove head first into, giving his soul and life to the game. He would play whenever he could, and had even decided he wanted to go into game design. At times he had even dreamt of how wonderful it would be to be inside that world for even a moment- until that world became his reality.
The familiar world he had come to love was now a foreign prison, one with no way out.
A Log Horizon AU. If you don’t know what that is, this is a Show Better Than SAO AU. If you still don’t know, the sides get trapped in a video game.

Level Three: The First Of Many
Hylin’s River.
A river which stretches through western Lirya. It begins a few towns over from the Starting Village and goes continuing through increasingly more and more dangerous places with harder monsters as you go. It was the perfect place to try and beat as many monsters as possible, or alternatively it was a good place as any to relearn how to play the game. It made sense in many ways and Virgil could certainly understand how the group had come to the agreement to train going down the river, but he couldn’t stop himself from worrying. As if the idea of monsters actually succeeding in trying to kill him wasn’t enough, they didn’t seem to be the only ones who had the idea to come here. There weren’t a great many others, but it was more than the handful he had expected. And quite frankly as a group walking around with five legendary swords and zero clue how to play anymore, they seemed like targets. Not to mention how recognizable Remus and Roman’s characters were. Despite Virgil’s instance Roman had refused to deviate from his typical knight’s greaves, samurai chest armor, and bright red hair. It seemed to him it didn’t matter how much he stuck out despite being the biggest target among them.
Not only had TheSwordTwins put up a video discussing going against a sphinx, but Roman also had a reputation for being harsh to players who “played wrong” or those who called him a Guild Hopper, and he was also known to give negative reviews for other games he had tried. Roman was literally a living target and somehow Virgil didn’t think he would see it unless someone physically painted one on him.
Remus however was another story. For one he had agreed to change his clothes from his usual flashy green pirate dress to a more muted one but what really made him different was that on the brother’s channel he didn’t generally review anything. He would just go through Let’s Plays of him being a mercenary for hire and his character <3getting2Dsat1 decimating wherever she went- without using a legendary sword. So yes Remus drew attention, but judging from the comments Virgil used to scroll through, he didn’t seem to draw hate.
After him Logan was certainly the most well known of the party. Every high level player, and every guild member in the game had heard of the legendary Tactician, 56Logan_Teslacoil43. Guilds would fight over him to have his expertise in a war with another, but unlike Roman he wouldn’t join a single one. His services went to those with the deeper pockets. So he was well known, but at the same time no one would be stupid enough to try to attack him.
Then there was Dee. He was well known to those in the business of information. So the general public he was a nobody, but the people pulling the strings would know it would have to be something important to pull the lordofthelies from the shadows.
Lastly (other than himself) was kittycat=patt or Patton. Someone which Virgil knew virtually nothing about. From what Patton had said, she was a friend of Roman and Remus’ and had aided them in a few raids but with Patton’s level being 56- the lowest of the party- Virgil couldn’t help but have... apprehensions.
“You’re worrying too loudly, dear.”
Virgil didn’t reply as Dee put an arm around his shoulder and began walking him back toward the group. “We’re targets, Eric,” he said finally.
“I’m aware.”
Virgil stopped walking and looked up to his friend’s face with an eyebrow raised. “You’re aware? This is when you’re supposed to tell me I’m being stupid.”
“But you’re right. We’re targets. But the only way for us to fix that is to learn faster than our pursuers do.”
“That doesn’t make me feel better.”
“It wasn’t meant to. But at the same time... everyone likes being right, right?”
Virgil could only sigh in response.
~~~~
Virgil didn’t think he had ever been more frustrated in his life.
This game was something he was good at- something he was supposed to be good at. But now, after his fifth time face planting after failing to do a combination sprint? Now he wasn’t so sure anymore. He pulled himself up with a groan, glancing at his health as he did. The amount lost for the amount of effort he put in was almost unsatisfying. With the way his body was screaming in pain, he wished he had lost enough to warrant the use of a health potion.
“Someone needs to invent pain killers,” Virgil grumbled, wiping dirt from his face. But he doubted he had been heard. Everyone else was truly the saving grace of this situation, simply because they were doing just as badly.
Logan was in the woods, focusing on trying to link sword hits together to increase damage dealt, but he had only succeeded in killing low level monsters  which wouldn’t even drop anything worth selling (and yet he still would come back and drop them all in front of where they had made camp angrily before walking off again). Also in the woods was Dee. Who had busied himself with attempting to using a combination concealment skill which theoretically would hide him in shadows to be undetected by monsters, but judging from the loud and distressed shouts and swearing Virgil could hear from his direction, Dee had only managed to call the monsters to him.
Quite frankly Virgil had zero clue how Roman and Remus were doing. The two were sparring closer to the camp in the clearing and while it was clear it was very clumsy fighting, Virgil couldn’t tell much else. But considering how often Patton was practicing her healing skills while the duo fought, he doubted they had improved much either.
Essentially they had gotten nowhere.
And as much as he hated it Virgil had an idea as to why.
“Tony?” Dee asked slowly, setting his gloved hands on Virgil’s shoulders. “Were you poisoned or something?”
Virgil rolled his eyes, “I’m not poisoned or crazy. I’m serious.”
“You’re stupid though,” Roman tossed in. “Intentionally going to get yourself killed?”
“I’m not trying to die. I’m trying to gain experience. If there's something I remember from back when I started playing this game, I had to throw myself into things that were difficult. So, despite how- stupid, crazy, and terrifying it sounds...”
“I believe Anthony has a point,” Logan said slowly. “We won’t know what true combat is in this version of the game until we try it.”
“I heard there’s a Yino up the river from some other guys,” Remus suggested. “We could work our way there? Sure it's a level 66 monster, but there’s six of us!”
Virgil watched as Roman opened his mouth to respond before his eyebrows knit together. “You just-”
“Then we should continue as we are, but now we have a destination in mind,” Logan concluded. “Now that that’s settled, shall we settle the manner of dinner? Patton I believe you said you would take the first turn. But we’ll need to decide how taking turns will work.”
“Anthony will be doing double for me since I can’t cook,” Dee put in.
Virgil shook his head, “I never agreed to that.”
“Do you really want to eat my cooking though?”
“Oh no, you knocked down my HP by 5% last week, but I don’t want to cook either.”
“There are still other housekeeping topics to discuss,” Logan interrupted. “There are other chores which must be done, and perhaps if you do not wish to cook Dee you take Anthony’s chore in something else?”
“We are camping,” Roman reminded them. “What more is there to do? We cook and we sleep.”
“Well we will still need someone to take watch at night,” Patton told him. “And there’s gathering firewood, and hunting. Someone will have to be in charge of maintaining the fire and finally boiling water since Logan pointed out that we don’t know if we can drink the river water.”
“I’ve been drinking it all day,” Remus said in confusion. “I’m fine.”
“It could have contaminants which make it unsafe, Remus,” Logan frowned. “This is no longer the game we know, after all. Virtual or not we could be affected by the landscape greatly. I do recall there are some wild grown foods are known to be poisonous in the game.”
“Don’t worry Specs, I’ve got super high luck and poison resistance. I can eat or drink whatever!”
“The rest of us should probably boil it though,” Patton told him. “The water in our inventory is gonna run out eventually. So we should stock up while we’re here at the river. We also don’t need to waste money on it this way.”
“Fine, what other chores do we need to do mom?”
“Leave her alone,” Dee yawned. “Let her cook.”
“He actually,” Patton corrected. “I picked to play as a female because the character designs were better overall. Lot more hairstyles and clothes, it’s kind of unfair. But anyway, we need to make something like... like a chore wheel!”
Virgil couldn’t help but grimace.
Roman seemed to share the sentiment, “Aren't we only going to be out here a few nights? We’re not putting down roots.”
“We have roots while we are here,” Patton replied simply. “So, does anyone want to volunteer to do anything or should I designate?”
Patton ended up designating, and Virgil found himself feeling like he was back to living at home under his mother’s strict rule. But unlike his mother, Patton made up for it with his cooking ability. Virgil had zero clue what Patton had done to make virtual food taste like heaven, but when he had finished he had promised Patton his first born in return for cooking as long as they were in the game (to which Patton had quickly told Virgil to keep any potential children, and instead agreed to teach Virgil to cook, and Virgil guessed that was fine too).
With dinner finished and everyone exhausted from a full day of failure they had agreed on a watch schedule and laid down to sleep. And quite frankly Virgil had expected to sleep the moment he had laid down, but he hadn’t been gifted the release of sleep, as instead he couldn’t help but think about the absurdity of it all. Camping with companions he barely knew in hopes they wouldn’t screw each other over. It was ridiculous, laying there. But it seemed there was nothing more than he could do but put faith in these people he didn’t know- hell as much as he felt he did, he barely knew Dee.
“If you’re not going to sleep Tony I see no point in staying up on watch.”
Virgil sighed and rolled over to face Dee who was sitting with his back against a tree. It was strange seeing him this way. Virgil had seen this character so many times over the years, and yet seeing it for real in person was something he couldn’t entirely comprehend. There was something different about this Dee, something different about his attitude and how he spoke. While Virgil wasn’t sure what it was that seemed so strange, but he had the sneaking it wasn’t simply due to the change in perspective. Perspective hadn’t changed the physical. It hadn’t changed Dee’s affinity for heterochromatic eyes or gloves, nor had it changed his desire to wear suits and capes with high armor stats instead of actual armor. It was Dee himself who had changed.
“Am I the way you imagined?” Virgil asked finally.
“Well I certainly didn’t think you’d look like your character no,” Dee replied. But when Virgil gave silence as a response he continued after a sigh. “You’re less confident than I thought. What about me?”
“I... I don’t know. And that’s what’s bothering me.”
Dee gave a shrug and looked up into the tree canopy staring at something Virgil couldn’t tell, “I act differently online. I act cocky, and like I’m always the smartest in the room. I use and manipulate other people- that’s how I got this sword in the first place... but that’s not who I am, Tony. I’m just here and scared just like everyone else. But- but I won’t let them know that.”
“You let me.”
Dee’s eyes locked with Virgil’s for a moment before Dee blinked and his eyes went past Virgil to fire with emotions Virgil couldn’t distinguish. “Even I make mistakes...”
Virgil wanted to talk further. To ask what he had truly meant, but fatigue lulled him to sleep before the question could form on his tongue.
~~~~
Day two of training was unfortunately mimicking the first. But one thing different Virgil supposed was he was learning more about the others fighting styles. He had had slight knowledge of Roman and Remus’ from watching their videos, but it was different watching them in front of him. For example, rather than focusing on the set moves keyboards allowed, Roman seemed to be quite experimental and able to change what he was trying to do quickly, and it was actually quite impressive to watch him switch the way he holds his katana. He could switch between two hands, right hand, to left in an instant- it was like his fighting ability was innate. Remus was also experimental, but judging from the way he literally threw himself into a cave of low level monsters shouting “cannonball!”, his being experimental was more of him testing his limits and surviving off of his high luck stat. Logan meanwhile seemed to be Remus’ complete opposite and was extremely cautious in his fighting.
He had walked up to the pig like monster and circled it dodging calmly and easily like some sort of dance which was kind of mesmerizing to watch (and Virgil quickly realized he wasn’t the only one staring). And then when Logan was fully confident in his abilities he’d unsheath his saber, strike, and resheath it so quickly it was hard to see. But most interesting to Virgil personally was Patton.
Patton was fierce in his own way. One moment Patton would be cooing over how cute a monster was, and then once the monster would lunge at him Patton’s short sword was in his hand and he was attacking. It was like a switch would flip in him, and Virgil needed to know how to avoid it before Patton tried to kill him in his sleep.
“Tony!”
If later asked, Virgil would deny jumping at the sound of Patton’s voice.
“Oh, sorry! didn’t mean to scare you kiddo!” Patton apologized coming up beside him.
“You- you didn't scare me,” Virgil said quickly. “What’s up?”
“Oh I just couldn’t help but notice the hole in your sword, is there a reason?”
Virgil blinked as he hefted his sword up to show the hole in the top of his dadao. “Um, I’m not entirely sure. I googled it once, I think it’s a center of gravity thing because it’s heavy? Logan knows random things, he might know.”
“Is it that heavy?” Patton asked, seemingly interested.
“Yeah um, I’d let you feel it if like... it wouldn’t revert to your sword style once you touched it.”
“I’ve always wanted to change my sword style. Shortswords are cool and all, but I always thought it would be cool to have something else. Something with more distance? I don’t like having to get so close. It’s scary.”
Virgil couldn’t exactly disagree. Part of him wanted to sprint away at the sight of a monster no matter the level, but another part of him felt a thrill at the prospect of fighting back.
“I usually did support with my bow even when this was a normal game,” Patton continued. “And the Sword of Ice and Water can also be used at a distance.”
“Well when we face bigger things I think you should stay in the back,” Virgil said slowly. “We all should protect you as the healer.”
“Oh no, I’ll take care of myself. I need to prove that I can work with all of you. I mean you’re level 74 Tony!”
Virgil stared into Patton’s determined blue eyes for a moment before he shook his head, “You joined the twins in raids and you have a legendary sword. That’s proof enough that you’re going to be a big help.” But as the words Virgil left his mouth he couldn’t help but feel a pang of guilt. He had judged Patton quickly because of his level too, hadn’t he? What right did he have to try and make Patton feel better?
“I’m still gonna go all out and try my best though,” Patton was saying. “So I can protect all of you.”
“Let’s all just agree to try our best to not need saving at all?”
Patton gave a slight laugh and Virgil couldn’t help but smile slightly in response.
~~~~
“This is a terrible idea.”
Roman raised an eyebrow, “This was your idea.”
Virgil gave a nod of acknowledgement, “Yes it was. And now I deeply regret it.”
“Too late,” Roman sang, swinging an arm over Virgil’s shoulder and pulling him closer to the cliff edge to look into the area through the trees. Or more accurately at the yino. A level 66 monster three times the height of Virgil and very wide with hands which could crush a minivan with little effort. When this was just a game it would have been easy to take down, a single player who was good enough at their speed and jumping could hit its weak spot on the side of its neck and take it down in a few good hits. But Virgil sincerely doubted that even the six of them with nothing more than basic runs and jumps could reach the spot needed.
“We could stack on top of each other,” Remus suggested. “Or Patton looks skinny, we could throw him.”
“Or we could go with our previously established plan,” Logan put in but at Remus’ blank look he pushed his glasses up (probably to hide an eyeroll). “Patton is focusing on healing, Janus will provide long range cover and hit the weak point if he has the shot, Roman and I will try to create opportunities for you and Virgil to attack. We can't reach the weak point, so we will need to deal damage until Janus can shoot. Understand?”
“Roger! So... are we gonna jump its bones or just stand here thinking about it?”
“We need to preserve our moment of surprise, not be reckless.”
“Reckless is his favorite word,” Roman frowned.
Virgil was still deeply regretting his decision in this the moment that Logan and Roman charged the beast. They thankfully approached unnoticed and managed to each get in strike on each leg- but when Virgil’s eyes flickered to the monster’s HP it seemed they hadn’t done anything besides anger it. The monster gave a swipe of its huge paw and the two jumped back- Logan managed to dodge- but Roman was sent flying across the field and out of sight. Virgil didn’t even have a moment to check on Roman’s HP as he began running in himself, but words did slip from his lips.
“This was really a mistake,”
“It’s gonna be fun Tony!” Remus cheered running past him.
“No it’s not.”
If Remus heard he didn’t reply and rather he ran closer to the two already engaged. Virgil watched as he jumped- probably attempting for a combination- and promptly crashed to the ground. Virgil ran past him, toward where Logan was fighting (and failing alone). He needed to get the yino’s attention of him and Logan so Dee could take the shot. That’s the only way this could possibly work. But without combinations Virgil would need to be creative.
When he got close enough the monster’s arm raised and swung down in a deadly arc towards him but rather than dodge out of the way Virgil forced his body to slide down underneath of it. On the other side he rolled up to his feet and gave it a slash from his dadao. He wanted to check to see the amount of damage he had done, but he couldn’t afford to let his attention waver. He slashed again and then dodged quickly as the monster turned- but it was then it gave a lurch forward and Virgil was able to see the arrow sticking from its neck. Dee had managed to hit his mark but the arrow hadn’t been deep enough. And now the yino knew where he was.
The monster gave a roar shaking Virgil’s very being and it turned in the direction the arrow had come, seemingly no longer concerned with Virgil or the others fighting. But somehow they needed to keep it there. Virgil fell back slightly taking in the scene as he watched Logan, Remus, and Roman fight. To catch the attention they’d need to get up higher. To do something other than slow down it’s legs...
“Roman!” Virgil shouted, running forward once more and slashing at the monster’s back.
“Kind of busy here!” Roman replied, rolling out of the way from the yino’s fist.
“I need you to give me a boost!” Virgil shouted back as he slashed
“What?”
“Your shield! I’m gonna jump, boost me.”
Roman’s eyes widened in understanding as he drew further back, “Remus! Take my spot with Logan!”
“I thought you’d never ask!” Remus replied coming closer to join Logan as the main tank.
They were set. Virgil took a deep breath, before he charged Roman. He focused on his speed, and on his jump. He could sprint. He could jump, but it would be the switch between the two that would be crucial. And he didn’t really have another shot at this. Not with Remus ignoring every order Logan barked at him. Not with the yino getting closer. Not with Dee’s second arrow only hitting the raised paw given the monster had moved. This needed to work.
Roman’s deer were planted and his shield raised so Virgil jumped toward him. And the moment his feet hit the shield- Roman was flinging him toward the yino. Virgil wanted to bask in the success of the moment- how it had actually gone right- that haphazard half concocted combination had gone right- but instead he readied his sword and aimed for the neck. He had a chance- he could do this.
Until he was swiped out of the sky.
Virgil barely had time to register the pain of his bones simultaneously being crushed as he suddenly sent flying backwards- and his body hit the cliff- and then the ground.
His body was screaming in pain- more than he had ever felt.
His vision flickering between darkness and the world around him, but even what he could see was blurry. The yino was still attacking, and judging from the blur of the color green Remus was holding it off. Someone was coming toward him a blur of yellow and- he just couldn’t breathe. He tried but just felt worse- felt a lack of air.
He was drowning on land.
A mix of feeling any and everything and absolutely nothing.
Virgil wished there was a word he could use to describe what the strange feeling was. Experiencing the landscape around him was more intense than his wildest dreams. In the past he had dreamed of days he could lie in Lirya’s grass and take in everything he could- but now that his dream had become a nightmare he couldn’t even bring himself to enjoy it. And yet at the same time the weight of the sword strapped against his back- or when it was transformed in his hand it just felt overwhelming right. When he would swing it it felt perfect like he had been born to do just that. But every time he felt momentarily happy in this world- he’d remember the truth. He was stuck here. His favorite dream intermingled with a nightmare, was there a word for that?
Probably not, but someone should make one. If they did Virgil would find it useful in the future, if someone ever asked him how dying felt.
Someone New
Laid on the cheese heavy in this chapter, hope you want some fluff.
Chapter 5
          Vesper hadn’t felt this mixture of nervous excitement that was broiling her stomach in a very long time. She put on her make up like she always did, but as she repeated motions she had practiced a thousand times, she felt like she couldn’t get it right. Pull yourself together she chided herself, glancing at the time out of the corner of her eye. Her soft blush pink eye shadow and sharp eyeliner would have to do for now, she blotted the plum lipstick and clicked off the makeup lamp.
       She checked and double checked her handbag, assuring herself that she was perfectly prepared for a casual dinner out, taking one last glance at herself in the mirror and smoothing down the few flyaways that had lifted from her high and tight braided hairdo, before heading out the door. Relax, she told herself as she waited for the taxi on the sidewalk, trying to keep herself from chewing her own lipstick off.
       By the time the taxi had arrived in Japantown the sun had nearly set, lingering in the sky as it liked to do in the late summer. Jackie had picked a place called The Old View, a restaurant set up in the old shell of a half exploded building, reinforced and completely safe now, but it evoked a bougie dystopia on purpose vibe. Vesper had always heard it was a nice place, visited by corpos and tourist alike, but she had never been, even with her corpo clients. She hoped she had dressed well enough.
       The restaurant’s entrance was in a small walking area that led into an underground mall, palm plants were mixed with holograms advertising the latest in tech and entertainment, presumably available for purchase in the shops below. In order to reach The Old View two large golden escalators emerged from the foliage and neon. Vesper spotted her date, standing facing the white neon lights that twisted into The Old View’s signage, dressed in a black studded leather jacket and dark jeans, head down looking at something in his hands that she couldn’t see.
       She smiled to herself, her heart beating a little faster as she approached, gently tapping him on the shoulder. He turned, face splitting into a wide smile as soon as he saw her. He leaned down, hesitating for a moment in order to allow Vesper to accept his gesture or not, before she closed the gap and pressed a kiss to his lips. She smelt that familiar pine and mint scented shampoo, cut by sweet leather and smoky birch cologne.
       “Wow, you look—“ he shook his head “amazing as always,” he said with a nervous laugh, and Vesper could feel her own worry easing as she realized he too was anxious.
       “You clean up well Jackie, not that you needed it,” she said, noticing that he had his arm semi hidden behind his back still.
       “Oh ah, I got you this,” he revealed a small flat metal box, holding it out to her.
       She took it gently, snapping open the magnetic top to reveal a beautiful golden bangle, neon blue lights glittering across the band in the shape of waves and fish. Her eyes widened at the intricate design, surprised by the gift and slightly guilty for not getting him anything.
       “I noticed you liked that color, like your hair,” he said.
       Vesper could feel her cheeks heat up as she realized he was watching her with a soft warm gaze. She slipped the bangle over her wrist before pulling him down to her for a full kiss, his hands resting tentatively on her waist as he smiled against her lips.
       “It’s beautiful, Jackie, thank you. I’m sorry I didn’t bring you anything,” she said, a hint of sadness as she finished.
       “Bullshit,” he snorted, “you brought yourself.”
       Vesper blinked a few times before she had to look away, ears red hot already.
       “C’mon, our reservation should be up,” he said offering his hand.
       She slipped her fingers against his palm and let him lead her up the escalator, his thumb rubbing over her own a few times. She wondered if he was relishing the feeling of their hands together like she was, the intimacy much different from the few times he had hired her, it was sweeter and much more fulfilling.
       The dining room opened up around them, deep reds with dim candle like lighting on each round table, around which was a staged crumbling old world ballroom. Cracked pillars supported an old fading fresco ceiling and the walls fell away at one end of the room to reveal a large box like window out into the street life, all the wonders of a post apocalypse world with all the comforts demanded by the rich. Vesper suddenly felt out of place with her embroidered white sleeveless top and white pleated pants, too bright with her blue hair, it was punctuated by the way the hostess looked her up and down with a scowl.
       “How many?” She asked with a flat tone.
       “Oh uh we already have a reservation, for Welles.”
       Vesper chose to occupy herself by looking around the dining room while they spoke. Opposite the grand window looking out into the streets of Japantown, was a second story balcony, like ones from the old opera houses that Vesper had seen in braindances and vintage vods. A large water feature was just below it, made to look like a naturally occurring pool of water that one might find if nature were to retake the earth, holographic fish glittered above the water, leaving blue streaking trails in their wake. Natural foliage was interspersed between tables, bursting through the concrete in a triumphant act of Mother Nature against humanity, too bad it was all an expensive façade.
       “What do you mean?” The question caught Vesper’s attention.
       “We don’t have your reservation sir, I’m sorry.”
       “Is there a problem?” Vesper asked, Jackie turning to her, his eyebrows pulled together in confusion.
       “They say they don’t have our reservation, that they’re full for the night.”
       “Could it be under my name?” Vesper asked.
       “I don’t think so,” the hostess said dismissively, even though she hadn’t even asked for her last name.
       “What about Rivera? Valentine Rivera?” Jackie asked.
       Vesper gave him a questioning look, confused as to who that was, but as soon as he had finished his question the hostess seemed to change.
       “Oh… You’re Mr. Rivera’s guests? I’m so sorry, please, right this way,” she said without another question.
       Vesper cocked an eyebrow, but Jackie tugged on her hand, and she followed him to a table deeper in. They were sat just on the other side of the pond, the round booth facing the fish, a step up from the main floor in order to allow them to see down into the water properly. Vesper scooted in beside Jackie, the menus etched into a piece of smooth glass, lighting up as they touched it.
       “Who is Valentine?” Vesper whispered, leaning in against Jackie.
       “My friend, he’s the reason I’ve been making the money to pay for this,” he said at the same volume.
       “Oh, cool,” she replied, straightening back up and browsing the menu.
       The menu was full of the freshest catches and most expensive cuts, and she wondered what exactly it was that Jackie did with this Valentine to make enough to pay for this place.
       “What do you two do together?” She asked, scanning the list of food.
       “We run jobs together, mostly mercenary work,” Jackie explained.
       “Really? Ain’t that dangerous,” Vesper asked in a low voice, and despite the fear for Jackie that raised the hairs on the back of her neck, she couldn’t help but be intrigued by his line of work.
       “Don’t worry jaina, Valentine and I? We’re bulletproof,” he said looking up from the menu to wink at her.
       “What are you guys doing though, like what do you do as a mercenary?”
       “All sorts of shit, shoot at guys, have guys shoot at us, keep people safe, keep shit safe.”
       “You say that like it’s no big deal,” she said with a laugh.
       “I guess I’ve just been doing this for a while now, it’s kind of just a way of life, didn’t start making good money until now thought.”
       Vesper cocked her head, leaning her chin on her palm studying him.
       “What?” He asked with a chuckle, mirroring her pose.
       “You’re interesting, you know that?”
       “I’m just another hombre making my eddies in Night City, am I really that unique?”
       “Maybe it’s just cause I like being around you,” or maybe it’s because I’m not used to being treated so well by men, she thought to herself.
       “You got a crush on me or something?” He asked teasingly, his voice soft as he leaned in, Vesper moving to copy him, eyes flicking down to his lips, about to meet his with her own before the sound of heels on the stone walkway made them jerk apart.
       ----------------------------------------------------------
       “He paid me to eat his food, like he would pay for dinner for both of us and liked watching me eat his serving; I made a lot of money and ate a lot of good food on that job,” Vesper explained, sipping on her third glass of high rate wine.
       “Shit, I need to step up my game if I’m going to compete with those corpo rats,” he said with a laugh that was half a gleeful chuckle, bubbling up from his chest, finishing the rum in his glass as the waiter came to deliver their bill.
       “You think this doesn’t put you a cut above the rest?” She asked, gesturing around at the slowly emptying dining room.
       “Ah, I just wanted to show off, wanted you to know that I think you’re worth all this, but I’m gonna be honest, I don’t know if I can do this more than once… a month,” he said shrugging like he was actually figuring out how often he could treat her to such a meal.
       Vesper watched him as he talked, eyebrows raised and mouth slightly ajar, a smirk tugging at the corner of her lips, when he noticed he took a double take, self continuously shifting to face her more.
       “What?”
       “You think I am going to demand you take me to fancy ass corpo restaurants once a month?”
       “What? No! I was just—I would! I would do it!” he said as Vesper began to laugh, resting her hand on his knee as she rocked in her seat.
       “I know you would baby,” she said when she had composed herself.
       “Oh? You know me so well already?”
       “You respect me, you respect my job, you’ve already seen me covered in blood and stitched up my head, I won’t claim to know you deeply, but I think I have a pretty good idea,” she said, leaning in to kiss his cheek, leaving a dark purple smudge against his reddened cheeks, and she wondered if it was her or the alcohol that had caused the blush.
       “What can I say, my ma raised me well,” he said sheepishly, looking down at the table.
       “Well thank you Señora Welles.”
 ------------------------------------------------------
        Vesper didn’t get to see the check before Jackie had swiped it, protesting as he blocked her eddie chip, laughing as she whined, her head fuzzy with alcohol. As they exited hand in hand, the streets were still bustling with people, Friday night in Japantown being one of the most popular party spots in Night City. The two of them found their way to a quieter block of town, a small urban park squeezed between an apartment complex and strip of store fronts filled with flashy mannequins and boasting the hottest of trends, most of which were already closed for the night.
       “I know that was… A lot,” Jackie started as they walked.
       “What do you mean?” Vesper asked sleepily, leaning her head against his arm.
       “I just mean—that place was kinda intense,” he said with a shrug.
       “I didn’t notice really, not when it was just us,” she said with a smile, the wine allowing her to keep herself from cringing at her own sappiness.
       “You’re really good at that,” he said.
       “What?”
       “Making me feel important.”
       Vesper stopped at the edge of a metal sculpture, a twisting structure that reached into the night sky, lit up from below by warm floodlights. She took both of his hands in her own, squeezing gently and making him meet her eye.
       “Good, because you are important,” she said.
       He sighed, letting out a breath, his shoulders relaxing as he did.
       “I think for the first time, I might actually start believing that.”
Captive Prince Book Review
Tumblr media
Captive Prince by C. S. Pacat
Read: March 16, 2020 – March 26, 2020
After hearing about the characters on Tumblr for a while, I had to read the book to see what everyone was talking about. It wasn’t exactly what I was expecting, but I enjoyed it nevertheless. I don’t read LGBT+ books mostly because I just never really looked. But this one hooked me right away, I couldn’t put it down. Nothing sexual happened between the main characters, Damen and Laurent, not that there weren’t some scenes where it did. Damen is captured and turned into a slave and sent into enemy territory where he has to learn to survive and try to get back. Yet while he is there he learns and sees the way Veratians live and honestly, it’s messed up. The way they use their slaves as entertainment, the hidden games, the backstabbing, and agendas going on behind the scenes between Laurent and his uncle. And Laurent…he is very smart and clever. He thinks several moves ahead to outwit anyone he meets. Damen is confused about him because when he thinks he has figured him out he goes and does something that surprises him. We don’t see Laurent’s side of the story but I can tell that he is just as confused with this slave that is not like the submissive ones and doesn’t back down or follow orders. I could see what would happen next, it was easy to guess, but it was still surprising when it did happen. I really can’t wait to start on the sequel.
It starts with an Ambassador of Vere, Guion, viewing the slaves to be picked up for his Prince from the country of Akielos. One of them is a man who is kept gagged and bound, big and a bit frightening, unlike the others who are obedient and have been trained. His name was “Damen” and looked like he would give the Prince a hard time to be tamed. It then cuts to the Prince of Akielos, Damianos or just Damen. He gets surrounded by guards from his own household. He fights but is soon overpowered. But they don’t kill him. Instead, he is taken to the slave baths where he is cleaned and oiled. Damen doesn’t know what is going on, but soon the Lady Jokaste told him that it was his half-brother, Kastor, who had ordered his capture. They did not kill him because it would be to easy and quick. Instead, keeping him alive and as a slave will haunt him forever and remind him that he, Kastor, had won. The Keeper of Slaves, Adrastus, said that as of that moment, Prince Damianos was dead and he was a slave, worth nothing.
Damen is now in a room but he doesn’t remember how he got there, yet it comes back to him in stages. He had attempted to get free when he heard the bells ringing in the new king but they had managed to contain him and after they had him drugged to keep him compliant. He had then been on a ship and taken somewhere. He could hear people talking but it was a different language, yet he recognized it. He was in Vere, enemy territory. He was still alive and from the conversation he overheard from his handler and a guard, they didn’t know who he was. This country held no love for Prince Damen, so if they found out there was no telling what they would do, so if he wanted to survive he would have to play along and wait for an opportunity to escape. But first, he had to get through his presentation to the Prince of Vere, Laurent, who he could tell was a spoilt brat. Laurent didn’t like people from Akielos and thought it fitting to have one on his knees, but didn’t have any use for him and was just going to have him broken in on a cross, but changed his mind and instead welcomed him into his harem. So Damen was taken to a slave quarters where he was chained and guarded by the Prince’s orders. There was no opportunity to break free yet, so he will have to play the obedient slave, so he rested…and was woken up later by guards and Laurent, who was a bit drunk. Damen remembered to make sure he restrain himself, yet Laurent wanted obedience. He wanted him to crawl, yet Damen still had his pride. So a guard had to throw him to the floor and started to beat him. Laurent noticed that Damen had a scar and he said he had been a soldier, that he had somehow angered the king, though he doesn’t know how. The Regent then came in who was Laurent’s uncle and the ruler of Vere until Laurent becomes of age. He told Laurent to treat the King of Akielos’s gifts with respect. They had a treaty with Akielos and King Kastor and to not jeopardize it. They then left.
The next day, Damen was set before the Overseer, Radel. He said that he was lucky to have a position in the Prince’s household and he must cast aside his pride and former life forgotten to serve him. If he didn’t behave, he will be drugged again. He was then blindfolded and taken through the pet residence and to a natural hot spring where he was washed and then allowed to soak for 5 minutes. As he soaked, he remembered how he got the scar Laurent had seen. During the battle at Marlas, he had fought and killed Laurent’s older brother Auguste. He had another scar lower on his body when Kastor had run him through during training when they were younger. Now he was not so sure it was an accident. Once his bath was done, he was dressed, restrained and blindfolded and taken to an amphitheater. There were courtiers and pets among the benches waiting for the entertainment. He was placed in front of Laurent who was gloating about Damen’s injuries from the night before. He asked by King Kastor sent him here, did he beat him at something, fuck his mistress, Jokaste, or did he stray after Kastor fucked him? Each thought was horrifying to Damen and it showed, but it was just funny to Laurent. Guion and two others came, Vannes and Estienne and they gossiped as they waited for the entertainment, and it wasn’t the normal sort either, it was rape disguised as so. Two pets (slaves) would wrestle each other and try to mount the other until the victor climaxed. The audience was captivated by it and would be pleasured by their own pets as they watched. Damen was appalled by the Veretian court, in Akielos this sort of behavior was done in private, but here it was on display. But what was next horrified him more. He was suddenly grabbed by a guard and pulled into the ring opposite a brute of a man, clearly, a mercenary brought in because of his size to pin Damen down and rape him. So the wrestling began with the mercenary and Damen soon found himself bring pinned down. But it was because something was wrong, he felt weak and dizzy and soon understood that in the bath they had some perfume wafting in the air while he was in there, he had been drugged. Even so, he managed to force the man off him and punched him to unconsciousness. He had won, but he wasn’t like them to rape an unconscious man. So instead he knelt before Laurent and prostrated himself to him. Laurent then told him to kiss his boot. Damen hated the idea but did it anyway. Despite his winning, the audience still wanted a performance. Another man came over and offered his pet, a child, as a reward so they could see the Prince’s pet really perform. Damen refused to rape a child. When asked why he hold Laurent in his language that he wasn’t like him who take pleasure in hurting those weaker than him. Laurent said to the others that Damen had refused his services and he then left the hall. Damen was surprised that Laurent had let it go just like that. He was then dressed and got ready to return to the harem.
Damen was kept in his room for 6 days, only seeing the servants who came with his meals and the guards who escorted him to the bath. During that time, he tried to make light conversation with them but they wouldn’t speak to him. He did get out of a guard that the man he had beaten in the ring had been the Regent’s thug who had been kicked out of the King’s Guard. So not only did he win against the man Laurent had put him up against, but he had also slighted the Regent. It was clear that Laurent held no love for his uncle and was trying to spite him. On the sixth day, he was taken to his bath as usual but Laurent was there. He said that his uncle was away on a hunting trip, he had waited so they could be alone. He tried to goad Damen into a reaction so that his guards could storm in, but he didn’t rise to the bait. So instead Lauren told Damen to wash him, so he did. Only as he did, his mind wandered to the slave in Akielos that looked like Laurent, blonde and fair-skinned, who had not been shy when cleaning him. His body reacted to it and Laurent assumed it was because of him. As a reaction, Laurent tried to slap him, but Damen instinctively caught the hand to stop him and wouldn’t let go until he commented that he was only interested because he was not a young boy. He then called in the guards and they took Damen to the cross. The cross was a flogging pole. Some of the guards were wary about doing it because the Regent said to not harm the slave, but Laurent said that his uncle wasn’t here and to listen to him, so they did. Laurent didn’t give a set number of lashes and Damen could do nothing but take it. Once they stopped, Laurent said that he should have done this in the beginning but didn’t because he wanted to know what kind of man he was. He then had the guard begin again. But the guard didn’t want to because he may die. Laurent then bet him a gold coin that he wouldn’t, so the guard began hitting him again. When it was over, Damen was on the verge of passing out. Laurent then said that he had been on the field of Marlas, but hadn’t been let on the front lines. He knew what Akielon honor was, once given the chance they will stab you in the back. It was Prince Damianos who taught him that.
At some point, Damen had been removed from the flogging post and taken to his rooms to be treated. It seemed that Veretian way of treatment was different from what he was used to. They made him comfortable so that he could lay on his stomach and not antagonize his back. The good thing that came out of this was that the other pets and guards were not so wary around him. It was like a spell had been lifted and he was now one of them. In this way, Damen was able to get some information. The guards that were placed at his door were Laurent’s guards and didn’t have an affiliation to the Regent and they didn’t seem to like each other, something they had picked up on with the feud going on between the Regent and the Prince. He also learned that in Vere there were a lot more same-sex relationships because it would breed bastard that they don’t want. So high born men kept male pets, and female high born’s kept female pets. It was better that way. Damen himself preferred women but was not opposed to fucking a man if he was attracted to him. Vere was just complicated. Damen also learned that pets were not slaves and therefore not guarded. The harem didn’t have guards, except the ones placed on his door. So once he got past them, he wouldn’t encounter anyone. He filed the information later. Seven days later, the Regent returned. Guards came into his room, ones he didn’t recognize, dressed in red. With them, the Regent came in with the two Councillors Guion and Audin. They were appalled by what happened to Damen’s back. The Regent said that Laurent disobeyed him. He had told him to treat King Kastor’s gift with respect and yet had him almost flogged to death. This was what he thought of the negotiations with Akielos. Laurent had to be punished, but how? Especially with him coming of age in 10 months, but his actions couldn’t be ignored. So the Regent asked Damen, as a soldier in Akielos, what would he do if someone from the army disobeyed orders. Damen said a public flogging and let go. They couldn’t do that since he was a Prince, but the Councillors said they would support what the Regent decided. The then left to discuss what to do. Left alone, Damen remembered the past during the battle at Marlas 6 years ago. The King of Vere had been killed by a stray arrow and Damen had killed Prince Auguste. But with the death of the King and heir, Laurent had been too young to inherit the throne, so the King’s brother had stepped in until Laurent became of age. During the battle, Laurent had been about 14 years old and Damen had been 19. Laurent hadn’t been on the front lines because he was young, so he wouldn’t know what Damen looked like, even if he did he would have been covered in blood and mud, unrecognizable. But there was what Laurent said when they first met…He had a scar…Later, Radel came in demanding to know what he had said to the Regent. Damen hadn’t said anything but the truth. Besides Laurent wasn’t King yet, so he had to follow what the Regent said. Turns out he had been summoned to court. Damen then was washed, painted in gold except for his back, and given jewelry. Then he was taken to a lavish room that was all red, the Regent’s colors. Laurent’s blue clashed with it. Yet he stood up straight and faced his uncle in what was only a public flogging on a political scale.  Laurent tried to sweet-talk his way out of it, but the Regent wasn’t fooled. The proof was in Damen’s back. So the Regent took away part of Laurent’s army, land, and money and essentially told him to do his job. The Regent then told Laurent to “embrace the slave” to show that all was forgiven. Laurent did but was obviously not happy about it because he said Damen looked like a whore. When everyone was leaving. Laurent took Damen’s leash and led him out of the hall.
Laurent ended up leading him to the gardens after talking to several sympathizers. When they were alone, Laurent told him that siding with his uncle was a mistake, all the guards that he had made friends with will be against him now that he wasn’t loyal to the Prince. He then broke the Damen’s chain, so when Councillor Herode came, he thought that Damen had broken free and had his guards pin him to the floor and chain him up to a fence. Laurent and Herode then went to talk. Damen was left alone for a while until Audin’s pet, Nicaise, came looking for the Prince. Nicaise wasn’t as sweet as he had been before; he spat in Damen’s face and said he wasn’t important because he was a slave and his master (Laurent) had his money and land taken away. When Damen told him Laurent was back in the audience chamber- a lie, but Damen got satisfaction out of it, -he left to go look leaving behind an Akielon slave. The slave didn’t recognize him. The slave’s name was Erasmus and he helped clean the spit off Damen’s face. Vannes, a few noblemen, and a red-haired pet, Ancel, came upon them. They commented on how Damen had performed in the ring, but they didn’t get to see him mount anyone. Vannes said that Damen wasn’t trained to perform as a pleasure slave, but he may have a natural talent. Laurent made an appearance then and joined in the conversation. The pet, Ancel, offered to perform with Damen, to tie him up first so he wouldn’t cause harm. It was apparent he was trying to get into Laurent’s good graces, but Laurent wasn’t having it and was going to disagree until Vannes said it would do good for Damen to learn his place. Laurent then had Damen placed on a bench and tied into place, and Ancel sucked Damen off at Laurent’s direction. Damen was humiliated but couldn’t stop his body’s reaction. Ancel performed until Damen climaxed, then Damen was taken to his knees in the dirt and he just glared angrily at Laurent for allowing it to happen. Nicaise came and asked for the Prince, saying that his uncle wanted to see him. Laurent didn’t go right away, not caring that he was making his uncle wait. Instead, he toyed with Nicaise saying it was almost time and asked what he was going to do after. That his body was going to betray itself if it hasn’t started already. Basically, his master liked young boys and got rid of them when they got too old. Laurent said he could offer for him, but Nicaise sneered at him and said he didn’t need him, his master said he was going to keep him, he promised. Nicaise then was horrified that Laurent was going to tell him he wanted him. It would ruin him (I don’t understand why), but Laurent said he wouldn’t do that. They then went off to see his uncle, leaving Damen behind.
Once alone, Damen and Erasmus could talk. Damen was concerned that he and the other Akielon slaves were being treated right. It was especially hard when they don’t know the language of Vere. Damen said that he hadn’t been trained to be a slave, he had been a soldier and sent her by Kastor as punishment. Erasmus told him that he had been in training to be a pleasure slave in Akielos in a separate area, so he had never been to the main palace. He had been in training to possibly pick to serve the Prince, which was Damen. But now he was in Vere and serving the Regent. It was very different from how it was in Akielos where the act of submission was an art. Here in Vere it was ownership. As soon as Erasmus had gotten here on the ship, in a cage, he had been put through a test of obedience by some guards who put a hot poker on his legs and told him not to make a sound. With the Regent busy, the guards took liberties with him and came up with all sorts of “tests” as entertainment. It made Damen sick to think of what his countrymen were going through, and he couldn’t do anything. He was especially helpless when the mercenary from the ring, Govart came to pick up the Regent’s slave. He manhandled Erasmus by his collar so that he couldn’t breathe. Damen told him to stop, but Govart said he could do whatever he wanted. He then proceeded to rape Erasmus in front of Damen while the guard did nothing. But when Damen tried to yank at his chains the guard told Govart to take the slave and go, so he did. Eventually, Damen was taken back to his room, moved now with funds low to the Prince’s wing. He tried to think of a way to help, but he was powerless. He wanted to be free, but he couldn’t leave his countrymen here to live with this cruelty. When Radel came, he asked to see Laurent. He, of course, said now, but he was obligated to pass it along. Damen thought it would take a while, but in the morning Laurent was there when he woke. Damen bowed his head and then asked him for a favor. To look after the slaves from Akielos in the Regent’s care because he believes they are being mistreated, in exchange for his obedience. Laurent seemed surprised as to why he cared about others and not himself. Damen just told him that he was stuck in this cage and couldn’t help them himself, so if he must sacrifice his pride, so be it. But Laurent thought it was a scheme by his uncle and called the guards to question them if anyone had come to see the slave, no one had, except Govart in the gardens after he had left. Laurent thought it was a scheme.
Before Laurent could leave, Damen said that he thought he could appeal to Laurent’s better nature but he had been wrong. He was just like Govart who took pleasure in harming those weaker than himself. It was then revealed what Govart had been doing, but Laurent didn’t react. It was like he didn’t care, which he said he didn’t. He had no control over the Regent’s men, they can do whatever they like. Laurent then asked why he gave him the advantage of knowing he cared for something. They don’t like each other and now, Laurent had a way to hurt him and get his obedience by threatening to hurt any of the Akielos slaves. Damen hadn’t realized he had done it. Having won, Laurent left. The next day, Damen was sent for and brought to Laurent’s chambers. He was taking him to a trade negotiation with Torveld of Patras. The country had good relations with Akielos and was quite similar to them. Laurent said that Torveld could be persuaded to take the Akielos slaves as part of negotiations with his uncle. Damen didn’t know why Laurent changed his mind and wasn’t sure if he should believe him, but he didn’t have a choice. But if the slaves could get out… Laurent told him to keep his mouth shut about the plan and to watch out for Nicaise; he may be a child, but mentally he is a lot older. So they went to the negotiations, but it wasn’t until later. First was a reception, then entertainment, then the negotiations. Laurent met Torveld and the Patras Prince was captivated. While they were talking, Laurent asked about what was going on in Akielos and Torveld said that the country was still in mourning of their king and prince. There were beginnings of conflict, Kastor’s legitimacy was the issue. There was also a rumor that the Prince’s death wasn’t an accident, but Torveld said that Kastor’s grief was real. The reception was to start and they went inside. The Regent pulled Laurent aside for a minute and said that Laurent hadn’t been invited to the negotiations, he had never shown interest in it, but Laurent said that it was he who said he should make an effort to be more involved, that was what he was doing. The Regent just said to behave himself.
During the meal, Damen was seated at the high table with Nicaise next to him and Laurent with Torveld on his other side. With no master to curb him, Nicaise proceeded to try to goad Damen into a reaction, including stabbing him with a fork. It caught Laurent’s attention. Nicaise said that whatever he was planning wasn’t going to work, Laurent bet that it would, so they came to an agreement with Nicaise’s earring as the bet. So Laurent continued to talk to Torveld while Nicaise continued to get a rise out of Damen, but it didn’t work. When Torveld and Laurent started talking about Torveld taking a look at the Akielon slaves, Nicaise perked up and quickly left. Damen asked why he was goading Nicaise when he was the one that told him to be careful with him. Laurent ended up silencing him with his fingers, caressing his face which was not something that Laurent did because the couriers all went silent and were truly stunned when he fed Damen some meat. It was not done for a master to fed a slave, always the other way around. But then Laurent captured Torveld in conversation again and things moved on. After the meal, Damen went in search of Nicaise but was unable to find him. Instead, he ran into Vannes who introduced a pet named Talik, she was a warrior of Ver-Tan. They got to talking about Ancel and she said that his contract was almost up and was in search of a higher bidder. But Prince Laurent didn’t take in pets, Damen was the exception. Damen spotted Nicaise and when we cornered him, he said he was too late. And that the Regent wanted to see him, he had sent him ages ago. So Damen left to meet with the Regent.  The Regent asked if they had slept together, and Damen said no. He was only doing what he was told because the last lesson was still upon his back. The Regent said that Laurent could use a steadying influence and who could not be swayed by him. Damen didn’t think he had any influence over him at all. That Laurent didn’t have any love for Akielos or its people. The Regent was glad that he was honest and had him go get Laurent. Damen was grateful to leave because he had to be careful what he said at least until his people were safely away from Vere. Damen found Laurent and Torveld out on the balcony, he heard them talking intimately. Torveld was talking about being distracted by beautiful men. He was getting closer to Laurent by the time Damen stepped in. Laurent left to go see his uncle and Damen and Torveld went back to court for the entertainment. It turned out to be Ancel doing a fire dance that was truly an art; Damen was impressed and gained a little respect for the pet. After he was done, Nicaise came in claiming to have an Akielos slave perform next. A handler was dragging in a petrified Erasmus who wasn’t acting like himself. Nicaise was trying to show how the Akielos slaves were untrained and it almost didn’t work as Torveld said he couldn’t take untrained slaves to Bazal with him. But Damen said that Erasmus had been burned before and was scared of the fire. Nicaise tried to play it off, but Torveld had the fire put out and Erasmus was able to calm down. After speaking with him, Torveld had Erasmus sit next to him for the remainder of the night. He was enamored by the blonde slave, mostly because he was similar to Laurent but more vulnerable. Beside him, Niscaise was having a silent fit and accusing Laurent of having tricked him and he was going to tell him, but Laurent wasn’t worried since Nicaise was the one who helped him, unknowingly or nor, it wouldn’t go over well. Niacaise just left in a huff without giving him the earring Laurent had clearly won. After, the negotiations went underway. Damen watched Ancel serving the Regent and thought he had gotten a high offer for himself.  Also, Laurent had gotten the Akielos slaves out of Vere with no difficulty even if he lied and cheated to do it. Once everything was done, Laurent asked why Damen smiled earlier. When he mentioned that Ancel may be bought by the Regent, Laurent said that it was just an act for the court. He then said that Niacise was not Councillor Audin’s pet. And that Ancel was too old for his uncle’s taste…meaning Niacise belonged to the Regent.
In the morning, Damen was taken to see Torveld to answer some questions regarding the Akielos slaves. Erasmus was clearly a favorite of Torveld now as he was now welcome into his bed-chamber. Torveld asked what had happened to Erasmus and Damen told him. Torveld thanked him and wanted to give him a gift but Damen didn’t wear jewelry. So instead Damen asked what the state of the Prince of Akielos household. Torveld said that it had disbanded and the slaves had slit their throats in grief. Kastor had been furious and had killed the Keeper of Slaves, Ardrastus. Basically, Kastor had been covering his tracks of everyone who knew what had really happened. He also said that Jokaste, Kastor’s mistress, was pregnant and the child would most likely be named heir. Torveld had been watching him closely and commented that he looked like Kastor a little. Damen told him not to tell Laurent that because he had no love for Akielos royalty and Torveld understood. It was well known. The Regent wanted a friendship with Akielos, but not Laurent. Especially with Akielos fractured, Kastor wouldn’t want Laurent on the throne right now. Later, before Torveld left for Patras, they had a hunt. Damen was brought along to attend to Laurent and wait. It also gave Damen a time to think. He was still reeling from learning Nicaise was the Regent’s pet, yet it explained a lot with how he acted better than everyone else. While the hunt was on, he also spoke to Erasmus who was grateful that Damen had somehow arranged for him to be taken to Bazal. Damen also learned that Laurent had spoken to him before the negotiations to learn of what happened to him and what would happen during the entertainment at court. Damen was surprised that Laurent would even care to do so. Erasmus said that he was glad he was going with Torveld, he liked him. He had been taught being a slave was sacred but here in Vere is was shameful, he wouldn’t last here because it wasn’t in his nature to not be submissive so being with Torveld was a godsend. When the group came back from the hunt, Laurent was in a bad mood. He had gotten the boar but his horse had been injured and had to be put down. The Regent told him that his brother had more finesse in tracking a mark without slaughtering his horse. Then confronted him about how Laurent had influenced Torveld to take the slaves and why. Laurent just said that it wasn’t fair that he could harm his slaves and yet he got in trouble when he did the same to his (Damen). The Regent just said he wasn’t going to talk to him when he was acting like a child. A few days later, Damen was summoned in the middle of the night to Laurent’s “bed” by the Prince’s Guard. Damen was stunned because he never summoned him like this but he was forced out of his room at knifepoint when he resisted, so he had no choice but to go along.
The walk to Laurent’s chambers was long and Damen tried to think of why he would be summoned to be bedded, it felt wrong. Plus, all the guards that had been in the hallway before were gone. When Damen got to Laurent’s chambers, the guards unchained him and pushed him into the room. Laurent was reading and drunk. Laurent briefly looked surprised to see them and was clearly not expecting them, nor did he recognize the guards that were supposed to be from his own household. Suddenly everything moved very fast as the two of the guards suddenly attacked Laurent. Damen was moving before he realized it and helped Laurent in taking the guards down. Damen had one still alive and Laurent killed him. Damen noticed that Laurent’s fight had been messy and Laurent tried to attack him but Damen was able to make him drop the knife. Damen said had not come here to help them, they had brought him here, but didn’t know why. But before he could say more the Regent’s Guard came in. They had found 2 of the Prince’s Guard dead and they had rushed over. They then proceeded to arrest Damen. Laurent said he wasn’t the one responsible, but the guards said that the weapons used had been Akielon, he had to be in on it. Damen understood that he had been brought here to be blamed for Laurent’s death, though it was obvious that the attackers hadn’t expected to die. They would have blamed everything on him. Yet what was surprising was that Laurent didn’t take the easy way to get rid of him, he defended him saying that the guards had been here to attack the slave not him. He then had the Regent Guard leave after cleaning up.  After they left, Damen noticed that Laurent was injured, but he wasn’t drunk like he had first thought. He had been poisoned, but upon checking the water that had been spilled he recognized it as an Akielon drug used during training for pleasure slaves, an aphrodisiac. So he wasn’t hurt, he was being affected by the drug and clearly holding on by sheer will. Damen then became aware that he was unchained with no guards and Laurent in no condition to stop him from leaving. It was his chance to escape. Laurent tried to stop him by saying that if he left, he couldn’t protect him. He had saved his life even though he hated to be indebted to anyone, but he had to trust him. Damen could only stare at him in shock and then just told him that Laurent had him flayed, lied and cheated to every person he encountered. He is the last person he could trust. Damen then left.
Damen had to make sure to take measured steps so that he wasn’t stopped. Along the way, he ran into Nicaise who was clearly there to see if Laurent was dead and trying to get passed him, but Damen said that Laurent was in a bad mood and didn’t want to be disturbed. He said he didn’t care and was leaving, yet Nicaise didn’t move and only left when Damen didn’t leave. Once he was gone, Damen continued on and was able to get passed the Regent’s guard. He then went through the empty hallways and to the garden’s where the cross was. It was there that he found old discarded clothes that he put on to replace his slave's outfit. He then headed to the roof and set out to wait until dawn when people were starting to come out so he could blend in. An hour before dawn the Regent’s Guard came out of the palace to go out on patrol. They were clearly looking for him, so someone may have alerted that he was missing. Waiting for his change, Damen climbed down from the roof at a dead-end alley and ran into the last person he wanted to, Govart. He had been coming out of an underground Brothel. The woman then screamed and alerted the patrol and he was cornered and captured. His freedom was so close and he was debating just trying to make a break for it when the Prince’s Guard came and claimed him saying he was taking him back by order of the Council. Damen was then taken to the courtroom where Laurent was facing the Council and his uncle. Apparently, Laurent had been defending him despite having run away. The Regent said that Damen must have some sort of charm for his nephew to defend him, but Laurent was disgusted at the thought of sleeping with an Akielon. The Regent said that if there had been an Akielon attack he had to know, but Laurent denied any such thing. Nor was he an Akielon sympathizer, he hated them. The Regent then asked why he was refusing to do his duty at the Delfeur border if there wasn’t any collusion. Laurent really didn’t have an answer and the Counsellors agreed that it was suspicious, a contradiction that he was defending an Akielon slave and yet he hated them. Where was his loyalty? So Laurent didn’t have a choice but to agree to go to the border.
Once everyone left, Damen asked Laurent why he would lie to his uncle, not that he wasn’t grateful, but he didn’t understand. But Laurent didn’t want his thanks. Their debt was now clear. Laurent said that they will be rid of each other now that he will be riding to Delfeur. Damen was then taken to his room and was able to try to think about what had happened. He was angry because he had been so close to freedom an now he was not to leave his room for anything and dressed again in slave attire. He also thought about the night of his escape. The Veretian guards with Akielon knives, him being brought to be blamed and Laurent lying about it all. Why? But then he understood and requested to talk to the Prince. Only the first one to come was not Laurent, but the Regent. He wanted to know the truth of that night, but Damen before he could say anything, Laurent arrived. Laurent said they had already been through what happened that night, but the Regent wanted to hear from Damen. Yet Laurent asked if the slave's word was worth more than his. The Regent just said that Laurent’s brother could be trusted and yet Laurent wasn’t. He hoped time on the border will improve him and he left. Laurent asked what Damen wanted and he told Laurent he knew what happened last night. He had killed the survivor so he wouldn’t talk. It was supposed to look like Kastor had sent those men to kill Laurent, but Kastor can’t afford war right now so he couldn’t have done son. So whoever had sent the assassins had been aiming for war between Akielos and Vere. It would be the perfect time for it with Akielos so weak with discontent. Yet Laurent had stopped it, he had survived. Damen just asked why he couldn’t get along with his uncle and just talk. But Laurent couldn’t because the would-be murderer was his uncle.
Damen was shocked and suddenly knew that Laurent going to Delfeur was a death trap. If he left the city, then his uncle would take the capital. Damen then realized that his uncle had already cut off his supply line when he was “flogging” him and took away some of his land, money, and troops. If there was to be war, Laurent would be targeted to get him out of the way of the throne. Laurent wasn’t safe. So he told Laurent to take him with him, he needed someone he could trust, but Laurent said no. He had no reason to do so when he had just tried to run away and he might do it again out in the open and close to his homeland. Laurent just said that didn’t need him and wanted him to rot here and he left. The next day, Damen listened to the noise of everyone getting ready for Laurent’s departure the next day. He felt helpless. It was clear that the Regent was aiming for the throne to two kingdoms. But didn’t understand why he hadn’t gotten rid of Laurent before now. All he knew was that the Regent had to be stopped. In order to save his people in Akielos, Laurent had to survive, but he wasn’t sure if Laurent could do it alone and he couldn’t do anything chained up in his room. In the early morning, Radel came and had Damen change into Vertian clothing. He didn’t know what was going on, but all Radel said was that the Prince had requested that he join him and be dressed to ride. In the courtyard, Damen was given armour and a sword; it was strange to be wielding one again. Radel also gave him his duties that he was to do. He was to report to the Captain of the Guard as a member of the company, as well as report to the Prince as his attendant. Around the courtyard, everyone was preparing but there was not very of the Prince’s Guard and some of them may have turned traitor for the Regent. Damen also thanked Jord in helping him in the night of his escape, but Jord just said that he was just following orders. Laurent then made an appearance and said that he had just had them follow the Regent’s Guard, but he knew what direction he would have gone, yet didn’t. Damen also saw that Gorvart was there as well as Captain of the Guard, not a good sign. Nicaise also came, but he had only come to give him the earring Laurent had won, he didn’t want it because it made him think of him. The Regent then came and they had a little ceremony to send them off and then they left the palace, heading south.
 The Training of Erasmus Short Story
This story followed the Akielon slave before he was brought to Vere. In the years before, Erasmus lived in the gardens of Nereus until he had his first wet dream. He was then deemed ready for training as a slave, it happened late for Erasmus, but he was overjoyed it had finally happened. He could finally catch up with his friend Kallias. After being cleaned and dressed, he was taken out of the gardens and to the Palace for training, he was to be groomed for the Prince, a gold lion pin a mark of his status upon his silks. He spent his day's training in different forms of submission and learning languages and etiquette. He also found his friend Kallias who was in training to be the slave of Prince Kastor. In between lessons, Erasmus and Kallias spent time together; talking about anything and everything, getting close. Kallias told him that he was to be Kastor’s welcome gift when he gets back from Delfeur, so he has begun training for the First Night. Erasmus was being trained to be the Prince Damianos’s slave, he learned his favorite songs, and foods, everything. Having the golden lion pin meant he was certain to be in a royal bed. It was a privilege and many would want that position. Even Aden, another slave would want the pin even though he was being trained for the King, yet the King was sick and likely not to last, so his training would be for nothing. Yet Erasmus had been groomed for this since he was young and not it was upon him. It made him shiver in delight at the thought. Even though it was rare for the Prince to take a man to bed, it wasn’t unheard of. Erasmus had the right coloring- light-skinned and blonde – that the Prince liked, so it was possible. He really couldn’t wait. He wanted to be with the Prince and imagined what it would be like to be pinned down by him, but he couldn’t touch himself; that was only for those special retainers that washed him and for the Prince. During the night of the Fire Festival, Kallias told him that Kastor had returned early and he was leaving tomorrow. Erasmus was saddened his friend was to leave, but happy for him. They will see each other soon, each of them serving a Prince together. Kallias didn’t seem too happy though and told him he wished he could be his first. The words surprised him and yet at the same time thrilled him. Kallias then asked for Erasmus to put his arms around his neck, which he did. They got close, too close, there was something there between them, an attraction, but it wasn’t allowed. They both knew it. They most likely would have kissed, but Kallias pushed him away. The next morning Kallais was sent away to serve Prince Kastor. One night Aden woke him and said that Kallias was here and wanted to see him. So Erasmus got dressed quickly and made his way to the garden overlooking the ocean. Kallias was there, his face covered in the paint of a pleasure slave. Erasmus was glad to see him, he had missed him. But Kallias was acting strangely. Then suddenly Kallias was kissing him. Erasmus couldn’t pull away, he was too shocked as to what was happening and he was trying to hold his silks up because Kallias had torn his golden pin off. He then said that Erasmus couldn’t serve the Prince now, he was tainted. Then the lead instructor came and Kallais was saying that Erasmus had kissed him and Aden told him it was true even though Aden had left and not seen anything. Erasmus was stunned as his whole world fell apart because of Kallias’s lie and he didn’t understand why. The instructor was furious and said he had ruined himself and thrown everything away. He was then taken into confinement. After 3 days, he was collared and brought to a white room where there were other slaves. He then became aware that something was going on outside, but no one knew what. Another slave said that something has been going on all morning. Soldiers had come and had asked for the slaves that belonged to Prince Damianos and they had all been taken away. But the ones in this room were being sent across the water to Vere. Then the screaming started.
**I didn’t want to spoil it at the top, but I believe that Kallias found out what Kastor was up to and went to save Erasmus. If he had been the Prince Damianos’s slave he would have been killed along with the others. That was why he tainted him. Sad way to do it, but he didn't want his friend to die.
The longest DnD backstory i have made... so far
so small bit of context this is for a 5e game in a 18th century  bloodborne style setting.   it was meant to be one shot  so i just made   lady maria  of the astral clock tower  as my character, but the dm really likes the setting and how the game went so its becoming a full game,  but i really liked  how i played   lady maria  but i wanted something a little more then  a dnd version of a bloodborne boss  so i wrote this  over the last  few hours  and its now 5:30 am   oops  The  lady maria real name Blair  ( insert appropriate lore last name  with vanhellsing vibes to it )   class blood hunter level 10 Born into a noble  house the daughter of a previous lady maria that died during child birth and a noble man,  that was once a charming artist and writer  but reduced  to a  cowardly shell of a man after the death of his first love,  even though he has re married  he never  found his passions for the arts again  now only making  bland history text books for schools and little else. all through Blair's early life her grandfather on her mothers side would come around every few months bring gifts   and tails of his latest monster hunts and the promise of "once your older  if you wish it,  I'll take you away from this stale noble life" as she grew her grandfather started training her in swordsmanship and fire arms,  her farther forbid the training but the grandfather kept coming  till one day he had the town guards waiting  and threaten to have him killed if he took "his  last piece of her away"       blair over heard this  but didn't understand at the time  only being around 9 years old  confused as her farther  barely could even stand to look at her most days.   Her grandfather didn't come for  3 years after that point, till one night blare started getting ravens at her window  with short notes  and pages taken from swordsmanship manuals  page by page every day over time  forming more then a few books on different styles of fighting  and  firearm  manufacture and such.  she trained every day  till her hands were blistered from the bits of wood and furniture she had been using as wooden swords  to train with in her bedroom.   On the day before her 14th birthday  she noticed  a hooded figure with a raven in the small woods out her window,   she grabbed a small kitchen knife she had stolen and suck out looking for them.   it didn't take long  till she was deep in the woods   only to be startled by a well made wooden sword being thrown to her feet  "pick it  up and fight for your birthday present little one"  the look of joy   forced down by one of determination she picked up the sword and took the guard positions she'd been practicing  for all this time,  swing hard but true to form  never faltering a step in her foot work,   pushing the old man on to is back foot , not  one to show to much mercy  and  a reflex from years of fighting he pushed hard in to his next swing  and disarmed  her of her wooden sword  just as he dropped his guard about to gloat   " guess some ones not  getting  her..."  shes rushes  him gets her body  under  his guard  position thrusts her arms right up under his chin and with the stolen kitten knife to his neck "took you long enough  old man"  drops the knife to her side and hugs him tight enough   she  may have heard some of is old bones crack.  and starts to cry  into his chest.  "okay alright little one, you won  the fight  now need to crush me now"  as he hugs her back  for a moment.  "i know its been a while " only to hear " too long " as she kicks him in the shin "if you hit me again no present  " She pules back to look at him to notice a few  more scars on his face then last time  she spoke to him.   he stands up straight   and calls out “ lady maria please come meet my grand daughter”  As a hooded woman with a raven on her shoulder looking to be in her late 30s steps out from behind a tree.  she steps forward and curtsy towards Blair   “ its a honor to meet you little miss, i knew your mother well,  and she would be very proud of such a skilled young fighter”   she says with a smile,  a head tilt   and a slight  tear in her eye “ you most certainly have her  eyes and expressions...   its like  looking at a memory  right before me” Blair looks to her before looking down to the dirt   “ ive  only heard story's from granddad and farther  locked  all the paintings of mum in the attic i haven't seen them in years” her grandfather  after swallowing his anger “ well this just wont do  “ and pulls out a locket  from his pocket  “ i have a portrait of her  above the mantel in my family manner, why don't you hold on to this one, till you come see it for your self “ as he hands her the locked with a small picture  of her mother inside.   she holds it close before placing it around her neck.  “but now little one  its your birthday tomorrow  and that's not your gift this is!” as the  lady maria grabs  a fabric wrapped sword from behind her   “this was hers  it needed some repairs   after she put it aside  when she moved in with your father,   but its been cleaned sharped and has a fresh coat of sliver” Blair takes the wrapping off the sword to see a brilliant  sliver coated steel scabbed,   a saber with a enlarged almost small sword style handle and guard. she clips it to her belt and draws the blade “its heavy...  well compared to a chair leg but the balance feels much nicer,  this,  this is mine now ?” her grandfather smiles   “yes little one cant have you  training with chair legs  forever now  can we,  plus  you will need a real blade when our lady maria  hear starts training you in our family's blood magic next week ”       Blair  now looking rather  confused “ blood magic?”  the grandfather   draws a dagger  from his belt  and slices the the blade along his palm as  the blood runs down the blade it starts to crackle and spark with lightning   he throws the blade at a tree and it sparks with a brilliant light  and shark cracking sound like a small bolt of lighting, “now little one this is a family secret  so don't go talking about magic,  can you promise me that  and don't let your father find that sword?” she nods her head with gusto  “  yes sir !  totally,  easy,  no problem.  and he wont   look at me any way  so its easy to steal stuff and sneak around ”     the day starts to grow long  and they say there goodby’s for now  3 years of  weakly training some times with grandfather, some times with lady maria,  some times with both  and some times with a different lady maria  she dresses the same and spoke the same formal way for the most part but  much younger  she explained “lady maria  is not my name little one its a title...  all the lady maria's  are in some way related even you.  im actually your cousin  my name is Juliet.   the older lady maria  you met the first night was my aunt  and your mothers sister.  On her 16th birthday and a few years of Blair being a rebellious young teen  and making trouble for the towns guard and  her farther getting more and more strict as she aged,  Blair promptly set out with trying to ruin her farther reputation  especially when the step mother started pressing to “marry her off “  even though the farther was against it  the step mother  started making plans for marriage behind his back.   Blair being a witty  young trouble maker   found out about her plans and took it as a challenge  and found a new form of combat training  in bar fights and sneaking to the next town over and drinking  with the army boys in training. till it go to the tipping point  a argument with her farther  that was promoted by the step mother yelling at him for the better part of the day,  when she came home at dusk one evening  not looking to worse for ware  but about as far lady like  as one can get, her father going straight in to yelling “whats wrong with you!? why must you fight against the best life  you’ll ever get? how ungrateful are you ! “ the step mother butting in   “ your mother would be ashamed  you”  with out hesitation from across the room  Blair pulls a knife  cuts her palm and utters a Blood Curse of Bloated Agony on the step mother   and drops the step mother to her knees in pain “ you know nothing about her you good for nothing noble piece of trash”  “ and dad i don’t know  if you hate me... or blame me for killing mum by being borne,  but you never loved me you never gave me what i needed!,  and you took away the only  person that could!    you stopped granddad from coming  you took the one person that loved me!  you left me with nothing  what did you expect!?    her farther now yelling at Blair to stop this  “fine if you want to be with him so badly then leave but if you do  your title stays behind your money you’ll will be nothing more then a common present!”  “OH but father i have a title you could never take I’m the lady maria” as she drops the curse  go’s to her room packs a travel bag grabs her mothers sword  and walks right by her father who is trying to calm the step mother now screaming for a doctor   and calling Blair a witch,    on the way out  Blair with sword worn proud on her side,  she hesitates  for a moment  in the door way with her back to her farther, and can hear him over the sound of the now rageing  woman next to him   “what have i done Ive lost her again...  i’m sorry  i’m so sorry”   blair pretends not to hear him and walks away in to the night.        after another year of training   now at the grandfathers manor  and returning the locket,  she started going on monster hunts  and when the war came true and proper she fought right besides the young army boys from time to time as a mercenary  and protected them from the monsters by night, even earning some honorary militarily ranks.   now a few years after the war shes now 31 and has been a proper lady maria for a good while fighting monsters and making stories of her own.
Top 5 Likes of Red vs Blue: Season 1
(Top 5 Dislikes)
Alrighty, the first Dislikes post is up. Which even calling those things Dislike is stretching it, to be honest. So let’s get to the Likes! Which there s honestly a lot to like in this season. Even though the Blood Gulch seasons are my least favorite and as a saga it’s just barely over Freelancer, these seasons are very endearing. I always enjoy going back over them, and I’m glad to be able to talk about a few of the reasons why. So let’s get to it~
#5. Early Installment Weirdness
Tumblr media
You know everything I listed on that Dislikes list? That’s all due to Early Installment Weirdness. That essentially means things early on were quite strange when you compare it to a show’s current standard. It’s only natural that a show needs time to find it’s footing and not everything will work out or be done well. Especially for a webseries like this made by a bunch of video game nerds for what was originally planned for a miniseries, but the more ideas they got, the longer it went. So as I said, many of these things are very forgivable.
Plus, like I also said on that list, these things make the show endearing. The Blood Gulch Chronicles are very comedic driven compared tot he later seasons that are plot-driven. Things like the amateur voice acting, the weird stuff like the afterlife, and even the audio quality adds to the charm. It’s this weird show being made via a video game by some video game nerds. It feels like a newcomer’s indie project… which I guess it kinda is. And while machinima has been around before this, no one quite did it like how RvB did it. These things, as well as the other things I’ll get to soon, just help make it stand out.
Plus, if anything, it helps show how far we’ve come. Every dislike I listed has been improved. The voice acting is stellar, the audio is much better, the characterizations are stronger, and while there are still the occasional continuity issues many of them have gotten reasonable explanations. It’s fun to go back and see the lesser developed parts. You don’t feel annoyed with it, you have fun watching it not just because it’s funny, but because we’ve seen the evolution of the show. We can have fun with the older stuff, and that’s a great thing. It’s why I think these things should be celebrated, not mocked. I only put them on a Dislikes list out of necessity, but I love these things. I don’t want them to go back to it cause production standards are higher, but I’ll always enjoy revisiting it.
#4. Church Dies
Tumblr media
Okay maybe phrasing it like that is kinda mean, but it is what happened so…
So I knew this was coming because Ten Little Roosters had this fact as a joke in Episode 2. But despite knowing about it, it was still a surprise to me. I mean they killed a main character? In Episode 7? And the character of the creator to boot?! Wow, that is ballsy. But the part I didn’t know about was that Church came back as a ghost. I guess I should have known since I had seen people talking about Church and he was still listed as a main character on Wikipedia when I was looking up stuff about the show. But tbf I didn’t know he died this soon or that it was only the first time.
It was certainly a thing that took me by surprise. Especially since IIRC, Burnie hadn’t planned on doing it. He just came up with it since I guess at this point they knew it was going to go for longer than intended. Honestly knowing that a lot of this season was made up on the spot explains a lot of the weirder stuff like the afterlife scene… anyways! Yeah, it was something that legit shocked me. The ghost thing confused me for the longest time, but I was just glad to have Church around soon since he has easily become my favorite (sorry Grif, it wasn’t always you…) and this one on the spot decision? It lead to some of the best parts of RvB. BOth comedically and once it was time to become more plot-driven, it made some of the best drama and lead to my favorite saga in the show with Recollection. It’s a minor thing, hence hwy it’s at 4, but it lead to so much more and I love it~
#3. The Tex Twist
Tumblr media
Adding Tex to this season was a great move. For one it allowed a lot of great things for later, like the Freelancers and the plot after Blood Gulch. Even before all the Freelancer stuff came out, having these agents who were pretty much paid mercenaries added plenty of potential for stories and even comedy down the road. It also helped that we had someone who was actually competent among the main cast, adding an actual threat level. Not to mention she has a very blunt sense of humor that helps her stand out despite being the only female character aside from Shelia.
Heck, making Tex be Church’s ex-girlfriend was a great move. It adds something a little more personal and also helps Church’s character. He was the grumpy, snarky one among the Blues and then he died not even halfway through. But this helps give him another dimension as a character since he clearly still cares about Tex and wants to free her of the AI. Sure he’s still grumpy, being dead will do that to anyone, but he showed some competence once Tex got captured and again still cared about her. Tex’s bluntness and non-caring attitude about these things as well as owning her bitch-like personality helped her not just be ‘the girl’ either. She’s the competent one, but she isn’t just there cause she was Church’s girlfriend. She’s tough, takes no shit from anyone, but she never really gets annoyed or exasperated by the others either. Her straightforward personality is not only funny, but lets her shine as her own character and the later seasons only help.
While IDR if Tex was planned, her being Church’s girlfriend I remember Burnie saying was not. This is kind of a precursor to something I always admired about the show, taking small things and weaving them into the story. Like taking the joke that the teleporter turns armor black and the Blues using that to their advantage to trick the Reds. You almost can’t tell that this wasn’t going to be nineteen episodes cause they did so well finding ways to extend the story by using what they had. Tex is a perfect example of this. Not just because of later, but even for this season it added some more humor, added to her character when she could have easily been this standard tough guy, and also helped Church’s character. It’s probably the best decision that Burnie made for this season, and I’m glad that he did.
#2. Character Interactions
Tumblr media
On Dislikes, I talked about how the characters were not very fleshed out. This, as well as the show being machinimated, meant that the comedy and dialogue had to be really good. Fortunately, that was by far the thing that they nailed most in this season. As I said while the characters aren’t fleshed out, they /do/ still have character. Heck Burnie basing them off the people he cast was a very good mood in this regard. People like Gus and Geoff have known each other for years, for example. So this made for a lot of natural character chemistry and a lot of really good interactions. I mean people love having Grif and Simmons together for a reason. They just play off of each other so freakin’ well..
The interactions and dialogue are really good and even funny. Sure sometimes maybe they dragged a joke out a little too much. Like when Church was starting to talk about Sidewinder and Caboose kept interrupting, you just wanted Caboose to shut up so Church could get to the point. But at the same time, Caboose’s interruptions and Church’s annoyance felt so natural and funny. Or how Grif and Simmons messed with Donut and tricked him to get headlight fluid, and everything that led to. Not only were the contrivances funny, but the characters just bounced off each other so well. They didn’t need to be deep in this season because they all balanced each other out so well, which is pretty key when it comes to comedies.
I think that this is what allowed the show to thrive. People didn’t mind the machinima or how bizarre things got because we liked seeing these characters together. We enjoyed seeing them bicker and them getting themselves into something stupid. The dialogue was funny, the jokes, while some could drag, were timed well, and it just felt so natural. Despite most of the cast recording from different parts of the country (and in Gus’ case another country), you wouldn’t know it going off the interactions. It just worked very well and is very much what helped the show endure for this long, and it’s something I don’t feel has ever faltered even at it’s lowest point. That is saying a lot I think.
#1. Memorability
Tumblr media
“Hey?”
“Yeah?”
“Do you ever wonder why we’re here?
You already heard the voices the second you saw the screencap, let’s be real. You look at Season One, and it’s clear that it’s not exactly a cinematic masterpiece. It’s made by people who had no idea what they were doign. Everything is pretty amateur. The comedy, while good, is pretty much aimed more at middle/high schoolers and some probably would not pass today. I know if I tried to watch the show when it came out when I was nine years old, my mom probably would have banned me from it. So then… why did it succeed?
Like I said, it’s flaws and character interactions made it endearing. There’s a lot in this season that we still remember. ‘Why are we here’ is the most obvious one, but this led to so much. Church being a ghost got us Recollection. Tex got us Project Freelancer. There are so many quotable moments, like Tucker’s Voltron line or picking up chicks in a tank. Moments like the first scene, Church’s death, Tex’s arrival, Donut’s pink armor/awesome throwing arm. We always remember these things. We always end up going back to Season One in one way or another. Sure, some stuff is jarring, but we don’t care.
Season One is just fun. No one knew that it would lead to one of the longest-running webseries made, including RT themselves. I mean this allowed RT to exist period. It’s just got so many moments that we remember and still quote to this day. Even the show will call back to several moments. I mean how many ways have they incorporated ‘why are we here’ into the show now? Not only is it still funny, but it shows how far we’ve come since. We wouldn’t have the rest or RvB or anything else we enjoy from RT without this season. As such, I think that it’s memorability and just general existence is the best part about it, and is my pick for Top Like of Season One~!
Okay, one season down. Fourteen more to go. Thank you for reading everyone~! This is done, but I’m just getting started! So stay tuned for Season Two~!
All-Stars -Story Mode- [CHAPTER 14] Part 3
Part 2 - [YOU’RE HERE] - Part 4
All finished with Part 3, I hope you’ll like it.
And looks like this part is short so I will leave it @sampoststuff and @gulliblepineapples to figure out how Pyro thinks of this after they had met Dempsey’s Ultimis self in this part. Good luck reading! 😉
Helghans, troops and soldiers alike, a small group of them sent by Visari himself. Are now in a fight with the Earth Dwellers known as Humans, bullets are flying everywhere and screams of the dying or a battle cry from someone in anyway while the heat of war is rising up.
*Welcome to Killzone.
Demoman is hiding behind the crate while Dempsey and Erron are out there fighting, as a Mercenary, war games are deemed the new normal when he was first hired by Redmond and it was the first time he will use his skills of denotations and demolitions on the first day of battle.
He had never thought that he would do it on his fourth day in an seemingly empty city that was inhabited with zombies, on a day like this even or any other day! Yet, now here he is, hiding behind the crate for cover listening to what was going on and waiting for a time to peek over the crate. Another gun fire is heard and as well with the scream coming with it, then a body of the Helghan Trooper plops onto the crate under him as Demoman jerked a bit in disgust.
“Like how it happened in Gravel Pit…” he whispered silently to himself as he palmed his temples with his free hand while another hand is gribbed on tightly on the Stickybomb Launcher. He peeked over again and see Takeo is shooting with the others, Dempsey slashed and then shot one of them and his teammates fighting to secure the area.
He then slowly and carefully got on his feet as Pyro passes by but then they stopped when they noticed him, “Demo!” they called out to him as they walked over to him and lends out their hand to them.
“Thanks mate.” Demoman said as he got on his feet quickly with the help of Pyro, “No problem.” they answered and before they could be on their way, Demoman stopped them as he looked at what was heading for them. Making Pyro looked at him and said “Demo, wha-” but didn’t had time to finish their sentence as they saw that a group of Troops are heading their way.
Demoman smiled as he had an idea in his head but needed Pyro’s help, “Pyro,” he said, making the pyromaniac looked at him and suddenly been grabbed by the wrist then being pulled along with Demoman as he continued “Come with me!” while they both ran.
Troops are behind them as they ran to the nearby connected iron overhead just standing on top of the train tracks and gone under it as Demo stops when he looked at it along with Pyro then a smile of inspiration grew on his face.
“Pyro!”
“Yeah?”
“I have an idea that includes yer skills of fire!” he said, Pyro turned over with interest.
The Troops are coming in as weapons are aimed and ready in their hands, running on foot to catch up to the duo as they are getting ready for them to come, with each stickybomb and oil dripping out from cans done by Demoman and Pyro as they hear each footstep coming closer and closer.
The Troops are coming in as weapons are aimed and ready in their hands, running on foot to catch up to the duo as they are getting ready for them to come, with each stickybomb and oil dripping out from cans done by Demoman and Pyro as they hear each footstep coming closer and closer.
Troops around the corner and saw Demoman and Pyro just standing there as they ran towards them with promise of bring an end to their lives but one of them looked around as saw why there were just standing there; they were prepared for them to come into their trap after they rigged it.
Demoman stopped drinking when he had a feeling that one of them noticed so a smile smugly as he then throws a mock salute to them as Pyro waves a goodbye at their pursuers before donating the bombs on them as they blew up into pieces of them through the sky as the remaining troops were left to burn in the flaming fire as Pyro gleefully laughs.
Demoman, who is laughing merrily as body parts and blood rain down around them as he goes up to a severed head of one of the Helghan Troops before kneeling down to it and smugly yet proudly saying "Oh, they're going to have to glue you back together... in hell!"
Pyro picks up one of the body parts to examine it as that body part is just a torso of what’s left of the Trooper before searching through it,
*Searching… *... *Pyro finds a ammo for a Wunderwaffe and wielding torch light! *These two items are adding to their Back-Pit.
Demoman looked at the text as he drink what was left of the scrumpy inside the bottle and watching it fade away from sight. “Aye think we better get used to it now that we’re here.” he drunkenly said, Pyro nodded
“Loud and clear Demo.”
as they played around the lighter again but they didn’t noticed a familiar man in 1940s Marine uniform, coming their way as he surveyed the scene around him: Body parts, a few puddles of blood and weapons scattered throughout the area around him and the two RED Mercenaries.
“Hey guys-” a familiar voice of a man called out but Pyro and Demoman immediately got their weapons out, axe in the fire-lover’s hands and an empty bottle in the Scotsman’s left hand as he smashes it, breaking it into pieces except a part that allows him to hold it as a broken yet sharp melee weapon as they turned towards him, ready to fight if needed but soon thought that this man is Dempsey but they noticed a change in his usual style, buzzed haircut, a uniform used to be worn in the 1940s and a scar on his nose.
“Dempsey?” Demoman said, to winch it surprised Ultimis Dempsey to know they had know his last name as the Scotsman continued “Bloody hell, don’t scare us like that, lad.”
“Sorry?” Dempsey said, rising an eyebrow toward the two, Pyro tilts their head as they looked him; they can’t decide if the BLU Spy is trying to fool them again or not like back in Double Cross Map.
“Dempsey,” they started to say before grabbing a collar of his shirt, “Whatever happened to your jacket?” as he looked at them with more confusion as well with the Corporal who is looking at them. “H-Hey ma- er lady or… Whatever you are,” he began, making Pyro look up at him, “Can you, like let go?” he asked, trying to be nice and Pyro lets their hand let go of his collar in suspicion and confusion as they mumbled again “Okay, whatever…”
“Don’t cha remember us?” Demoman looked at him, “I’m Demoman and this is Pyro.” he gestured as Pyro went back on his side, still looking at him. “Well, ya know my name.” Dempsey said, crossing his arms as he looked at them.
Pyro was gonna hit him with their axe as they fully believed Ultimis Dempsey is the enemy spy from the BLU Team but as they turned, they noticed something in the skies as the familiar rocket thrusters had sounded the surrounded area as Demo and the Marine continued to talk.
Looking up, Pyro sees a ship nearly the same size as a tank with wings with thrusters soaring through the skies and heading for the west side of the city. Pyro looks around then they found a shovel on a nearby shed before walking towards it and picking it up, they then walked passed Demoman and Dempsey til they are just 5 foot from them as they looked at them before digging a trench with the shovel.
Demoman didn’t noticed that Pyro is digging until Dempsey pointed it out “Hey, what’s that doing?” as he looked at the pyromaniac digging, Demo looked over his shoulder and sees them digging winch it was odd to Demoman because they had never done something like this before.
It doesn’t take a while when Pyro managed to finished digging a trench and then opens up a Back Pit (Or in this Game-like Story; they had entered a Pause Menu like in video games) to pull out...
“Pyro, what are ye-” Demoman had time to finished when Pyro hurryingly grabbed him and U!Dempsey before running and jumping into the trench, taking cover from whatever it was in the skies. They then painted above the eyes with black sports paint, making them look like they are angry and ready for anything.
Tumblr media
Pyro had prepared a trench just in case it’s going to be another Alien Invasion
Then three heads popped out of the trench, first one was Demo, then Dempsey and then Pyro with the Panic Attack, an pump-action shotgun with a drum magazine attached to the front and an external firing hammer hence the weapon’s name as they held it in their hands. Pointing it at the sky, looking around for the flying rocket-powered ship from the space age as Pyro adjusted their helmet on their head.
They are fully expect an attack as Dempsey tried saying “What the he-”
“Ssh…” Pyro shushed him with a old-finger-shushing motion on the muzzle.
“Hey I was talking-”
“Ssshh…!” They shushed him again still looking at the clouded sky as they halts him with a helt-motion of their index finger before holding the shotgun with both hands again.
“Pyro, what has gotten-” Demoman was then shushed by Pyro as they had placed their finger on his mouth and then doing a zipping-a-zipper motion as they shushed “SSsssshhhhhh….” before returning on the look-out for the ship. “What are ya looking for?” Dempsey whispered to them finally, Pyro looked over to him and mumbled “UFO, an Unidentified Flying Object.” before turning their attention back to the sky and of course, they heard him laughed on their right and saying “There no such things as UFOs.”
Pyro hickled back with a mock laugh, “Yes there is.” as Demoman said “Pyro, be nice.” while he looked at the sky.
“Oh, like you have encountered one before.” Ultimis Dempsey teased, Demoman looked over to him and said “Some things are different in yer Universe, isn’t it?” as he looked through his Back-Pit to find another weapon.
“Yeah?” the Corporal shrugged, looking over to him now and saw that he is serious. “Are you serious?” he asked, rising an eyebrow at this when Pyro nodding but doesn’t look at him as Demoman gives him a thumbs up.
“Anything, Pyro?”
“No.” they shook their head.
Pyro looked around, turning their head left to right as they gripped tight on the Panic Attack, looking for any alien ships coming in but… None so far but they not going to take any chances to relax at their most vulnerable as they got out of the trench, holding their hand out for their teammate as he grabbed it and being pulled out of the trench.
“Aliens had tried to take over our world once but both sides of RED and BLU are still too busy with the bloody war games until one day we had to defeat them with a giant ray that destroyed- Destroyed whot?” he said as he looked at Pyro before they both answered together:
“The mothership.” “The mothership.”
“Okay then…?” he said awkwardly, lending his hand out for anyone of the two and the one who grabbed him with Demoman and pulled him out of the trench with little trouble. “Anything else happened after that?” Dempsey asked next, “Only another time laddie.” Demoman shrugged as he looked around before Pyro placing their hand on his shoulder as gunfire is heard from elsewhere.
“Bloody hell… We better catch up with the others, Pyro!” Demoman rebuked as Pyro nodded with no argument. Then they ran with Demoman saying “We have to inform this to Richtofen!”
“You know the-” Dempsey questioned before being interrupted by Demoman yelling “Yeah!” while he runs as Pyro stopped to look at him and giving him the “I-am-watching-you” gesture before jugs up to catch up to their teammate.
“Wonderful…” Ultimis Dempsey groaned, “First it was with a goddamned Nazi, now this. Has the whole world gone crazy??” as he looked with caution but he is confused. How did they know who he is when he didn’t meet them?
“Ungh, I gotta get back to the others!” Dempsey said as he ran to where Demoman and Pyro are heading.
Something is going on around here and he’s going to need answers to that.
Fire Emblem 10 Drama CD Translation - Complete and Edited!
FE Game Script Translations - FE Novel Translations - Original FE Support Conversations - Ko-fi
Hey everyone, I was lucky enough to be given a written script for this entire CD and some advice on mistranslations, so be sure to check this post out, even if you read my original posts for this CD!
———————————
Introduction
*Opens with sounds of combat: grunts, yells, weapons clashing, etc., w/ focus on Ike’s voice.*
Daein Soldier: Gaaaah!
Ike: Haaaa!
Soren: Haaa!
Ike: Hi-yaaaah!
Daein Soldier: Retreat!
Soren: After them!
*sounds of retreating Daein soldiers’ footsteps*
Ike: *walks towards Micaiah* You are... the Priestess of Dawn.
Micaiah: And you are General Ike, yes? Sothe told me about you.
Ike: You are important to him, so I do not want to fight.
Micaiah: And you took care of him, so I feel the same way. However…
Ike: Daein has no intention of withdrawing.
Micaiah: No.
Ike: Then… *unsheathes sword* We have no choice but to fight.
*sounds of combat gradually become louder once more, then fade into music*
Ike’s voice: Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn Drama CD:
Ike & Micaiah’s voices: Clash of Heroic Ideals!
(T/N: a more literal translation of the title: “The Unshakeable Ideals of the Rival Leaders")
Scene I
*sounds of general army camp activity: people talking, weapons clashing in sparring matches, etc.*
Soren: The Laguz troops had very high morale.
Ike: Yeah. They believe in Ranulf’s words.
Soren: I think he’s changed a bit from before, too.
Ike: *laughs* Oh, Skrimir? Do you still hate him?
Soren: Of course I do. He’s the type that I’m worst with. He thinks that battle is won by strength alone.
Ike: Don’t say that! He’s a candidate for the next king of Gallia. And King Caineghis decided to make him the general of their army, right?
Soren: *chuckles* You talk as if you’ve become his father.
Ike: Ah…? Hey, of course I haven’t! But you are one to laugh at something like that.
Soren: Ike, you’re becoming more and more like Commander Greil.
Ike: So even you’ve said that now. The people we’ve reunited with from three years ago have been telling me the same thing. Jeez… Every last one of them...
Soren: I’m just fondly watching over you as you grow.
Ike: Hey! Now you’re the one acting like you’ve become a father!
Soren: Someday… you might understand what that means.
Ike: Hm? *turns closer towards Soren* What did you just say?
Soren: Nothing. But there’s one more reason why a frontal attack is dangerous. As I mentioned earlier, I’m concerned about Daein’s movements.
Ike: Of course... However you look at it, our army is more powerful. Is the empire forcing them to fight, like you said?
Titania: *walks up* Hey you two, we’re going to get ready to deploy now.
Ike: Titania! Okay, got it.
Soren: About that, I have a suggestion based on our current situation. Ike, please tell me your thoughts about it.
Ike: Hm?
Scene II
*sounds of general army camp activity: people talking, weapons clashing in sparring matches, etc.*
Micaiah: *sigh*
Sothe: Can I say what you’re thinking, Micaiah?
Micaiah: Sothe?
Sothe: You’re wondering why Prince Pelleas is doing something like this... Or maybe about why he’s cooperating with the empire… Right?
Micaiah: *giggles* Shall I try to guess what you’re thinking about?
Sothe: W-What?
Micaiah: You respect Ike, commander of the Greil Mercenaries, so you don’t really want to fight him… Am I right?
Sothe: *gasps*
Micaiah: Well?
Sothe: You’re half right, half wrong. I don’t want to fight him, but if you’ve decided to, then it’s another story. I won’t waver. I’d make anyone my enemy.
Micaiah: You’re pushing yourself, aren’t you?
Sothe: I’m not! *sits down* Surely Commander Ike should understand, too. Like I said, he’s a hero who can face any enemy and fight them at full strength. So if I must risk my life and fight for you, then he wouldn’t be against that.
Micaiah: *giggles* Even in those words… I can hear your respect and affection for him.
Sothe: ...Ah!
Micaiah: *giggles* Sorry. I’m joking around. *draws closer to Sothe* Sothe… you’ve gotten much stronger.
Sothe: Of course! Even if you leave out the fact that I fought in the previous war, three years have passed. I’m not a child.
Micaiah: Mmm.... I’m really happy. With how you’ve grown...
Sothe: Micaiah…
*running footsteps start quiet, then get louder*
Daein Soldier #1: *panting* The enemy front line! They're here!
Sothe: *gasps*
Micaiah: Understood. Shall we go, too?
Sothe: Yes.
*army cheers for Micaiah*
Daein Soldier #2: The Priestess of Dawn has returned!
Daein Soldier #3: Victory will be ours!
Daein Soldier #4: Glory be to Daein!
Daein Soldier #5: The Priestess of Dawn!
Scene III
*sounds of combat can be faintly heard in the background throughout this scene* Ike: Teeeeh-reyah! *swings sword*
Daein Soldier: Gaaaaaahhhh! *collapses*
Ike: *takes a deep breath and sheaths his sword* They’re no doubt a small army… yet expertly commanded.
Sothe: *approaches Ike* Commander Ike…
Ike: Sothe… You’ve gotten taller. ...That’s right, you’re from Daein, aren’t you?
Sothe: You remembered!
Ike: Did you find who you were looking for?
Sothe: Yeah. She’s this army’s current general.
Ike: ...The Priestess of Dawn, huh?
Sothe: Her name is Micaiah. Stop calling her by that absurd alias. Commander… I… *turns around* didn’t want to reunite with you like this!
Ike: Yet… you have no intention of withdrawing, do you?
Sothe: No.
Ike: If you’re prepared to make her to continue on alone… then come at me! If you’re not ready yet, then don’t come near me. I’m not so soft that I’ll hold back on the battlefield!
Sothe: Ah… Still, Commander… I have no choice but to fight you! Ahhhhhhhhhh! *runs forward*
*weapons clash*
Ike: You’ve gotten a little stronger! But… *weapons clash* do you really think such a light blow will hurt me!?
Sothe: Ah!
Ike: Hoooooooo!
Micaiah: *runs in* Oh guiding light… lead us forward, and destroy the obstacles standing in our way!
*light magic spell sounds*
Ike: Gah!
Sothe: Micaiah!
Micaiah: You attacked Ike… Perhaps it’s because I’ve heard so much about you from Sothe… but it doesn’t feel like we’re meeting for the first time.
Ike: I have nothing against either of you personally… You came before me as enemies. I won’t go easy on you!
Micaiah: Thank you… If you’ll do that for us, then we’ll fight our full strength as well!
Sothe: Let’s go, Micaiah! We’ll take him down together!
*wind blows*
Soren: I will be your opponent! Elwind!
*strong wind slices through the air*
Sothe: You! So you’re still by the commander’s side, like always!?
Soren: Of course. I will always be near him.
*Ike unsheathes sword*
*weapons clash, magic spells fly through the air*
Micaiah: Shine!
*Shine spell sounds*
Ike: Hiiiii-rrryaaaaah!
Micaiah: *gasps* But I hit him…
Ike: Sorry, but I don’t train like other people do. There’s no one to protect you here! This is your final chance! Retreat!
Micaiah: I… *pants, then collapses* can’t!
Sothe: *gasps* Micaiah! *runs towards her*
*teleporting woosh noises*
Black Knight: Ha! *swings weapon, then starts walking forwards*
Sothe: The Black Knight...!
Black Knight: Maiden, are you alright?
Micaiah: S-Sir Knight...
Sothe: Gah... Now! *runs*
Soren: Tch… Wait!
Sothe: *sits down* Micaiah!
Micaiah: Sothe… I-I’m sorry… I did it again...
Black Knight: It seems that she’s used too much of her power. Get her away from here.
Sothe: O-Okay. *picks up Micaiah and runs off*
Ike: Even if I try to run after them, you’ll get in my way, won’t you?
Black Knight: Of course. I was once one of Daein’s Four Riders.
Ike: So you did survive.
Black Knight: Did you really think you could kill me with the strength you had then?
Ike: Hm, did I? But I never thought that one victory could free my heart of need for vengeance that haunts it!
Black Knight: That’s good news. My armor lost it’s blessing after that fight.
Ike: Then I will defeat you again this time! *unsheathes sword*
Black Knight: Alright then… *readies sword* You may come at me!
Ike: Grrrrraaaaaaahhhhh!! *swings sword*
Scene IV
Sothe: *panting and running*
Micaiah: *gasps for air*
Sothe: We should be safe here for a moment… Micaiah… Hang in there!
Micaiah: Gah… *pants* Sothe… I… lost consciousness again?
Sothe: Yeah, you did... but there’s no enemies around here. You can rest easy.
Micaiah: No… I am a general of Daein… I can’t leave the front line...
Sothe: But because you’re a general, it’ll mean the end if you die first!
Micaiah: ...Sothe… I must… protect everyone…
Sothe: Daein is certainly my precious homeland. But it’s nothing to me compared to you! I will protect you! Even if it means I make an enemy of my country… or the world!
Micaiah: ...Sothe… Ah…
Sothe: Micaiah!! ...Have you fainted again…? Alright then, I’ll use this chance to get us away from the battlefield! *runs off*
Scene V
*sounds of combat between Ike and the Black Knight*
Black Knight: You’ve gotten stronger.
Ike: So have you. You’re even stronger than you were three years ago.
Black Knight: At that time, only my spirit and armor warped. Now, I am in my own body. Of course there would be a gap in my power.
Ike: I see… so that’s how you survived…
Daein Soldier #1: The Black Knight has appeared!
Daein Soldier #2: This is our only chance to attack the enemy general!
Soren: Ike, the enemy soldiers are gathering here!
Ike: Are you telling me to retreat!? It’s no use trying to talk me out of this! Tee-ryaaaaah! *swings weapon*
Black Knight: Haa-yaaaaaah!
*weapons clash*
Daein Soldier: Ready your bows! Shoot the enemy general!
*soldiers draw and fire arrows*
Ike: What!?
*arrows fall*
Black Knight: *raises weapon* This is the end for you...
Ike: Haaah!
*weapons clash*
Ike: *falls*
Black Knight: Prepare yourself! *raises weapon*
Soren: Ike! *runs* You’re the only person I won’t let be killed! *throws himself in front of Ike*
Black Knight: Are you trying to get yourself killed? Even if you try to risk your own life for him, you cannot change his death.
Soren: No matter what… I will protect Ike! Ike… I don’t think you remember… that we met once when we were young, but... At that time, I thought my life to be short… and that I couldn’t be saved, so I was only awaiting my death. But you saved me… one of the Branded, discriminated against by both Beorc and Laguz. That is why I will always be by your side and protect you… no matter what!
Black Knight: So you will go together with him...? That’s fine. Hmmmm! *swings sword*
Titania: *horse gallops into the scene* Haaaaaah! *swings weapon, horse stops and neighs* I won’t let you kill any more of the people precious to me!
Soren: Titania! You made it!?
Titania: Yes! We successfully hit the enemy from their weak spot! We overwhelmed them from behind, and I was able to bring reinforcements, too!
*reinforcements yell out battle cries in the distance*
Ike: Guh… Ah… *sits up*
*sounds of combat begin in the distance*
Ike: Did I… Ah... lose consciousness?
Soren: Ike! *kneels down* Are you okay!?
Ike: Yeah. *stands* Sorry for troubling you.
Soren: No… you could never… I...
Ike: ...Are you… crying?
Soren: Ah… no… I wouldn’t… It’s okay. I’m fine.
Ike: Alright then, let’s do this! *lifts sword* Fight with us, Titania!
Titania: Yes! This is an opportunity to show off the power of the Greil Mercenaries! *horse neighs and begins to gallop*
Black Knight: What are you planning…?
Titania: Heee-yah! *horse gallops up to Black Knight, Titania swings her weapon*
*weapons clash*
Black Knight: Gah! Female knight… Are you providing a distraction for them?!
Titania: Well, can you afford to get distracted!?
Black Knight: That is a foolish hope!
*weapons clash*
Soren: By the power of my wind magic… this brave soldier will be sent flying towards the heavens! *casts wind spell that propels Ike into the air*
Ike: Hoooooo-aaaaaaah!
Black Knight: Hm!?
Ike: This is… the end! *swings weapon*
Black Knight: Gah!? *falls over*
Soren: Yes! We did it, Ike!
Ike: *gasps for air* Yeah!
Black Knight: *rises* Tch... I see… You've gotten stronger. But I didn’t think you could have gotten this much stronger… Let’s stop here for now. I would hate to end our fight in one go.
Ike: I feel the same. You can challenge me any time. Whatever the circumstances, I’d accept a fight against you!
Black Knight: *steps towards Soren*
Soren: ...Um… What do you want with me…?
Black Knight: You are the same as I… You’ve found someone to live with. Though it will one day end in tragedy.
Soren: Ah!
Black Knight: And Micaiah… she, too, is on the same path.
Ike: I don’t know what you’re trying to say, but the Priestess of Dawn, Sothe, you, us… we are all simply living our lives to the fullest for what we believe in.
Titania: That’s right! Though we struggle with difficult trials and tragic fates, we have no choice but to continue on through our fears.
Ike: Yeah. All we can do... is continue on as we always have!
Black Knight: Is that so? Then let us meet again, *steps away* son of Gawain. *teleports away*
Scene VI
*cheering, sounds of combat*
Ike’s Army Soldier #1: We did it!
Ike’s Army Soldier #2: Victory is ours!
Ike’s Army Soldier #3: Long live General Ike!!
*hawk Laguz screeches*
Sothe: They have beasts and hawks among their reinforcements...!
Micaiah: Even the Bird Tribe of Phoenicis is here? Begnion didn’t tell us anything about that...
Sothe: We’ve been had…. Commander Ike’s army was a diversion.
Micaiah: At this rate, the number of sacrifices will only increase… Let’s retreat for now.
Sothe: The Daein soldiers will probably say that they still want to fight.
Micaiah: I can’t afford to let them die for no reason. At this time, we have no choice but to retreat.
Sothe: ...I understand. Let’s go relay the message to the entire army.
Micaiah: Hey, Sothe… That man… General Ike… He was just like you told me. Strong… noble… considerate of those around him… but also always able to calmly understand the state of the current battle. He’s everything a general should be...
Sothe: Micaiah…
Micaiah: I don’t have the strength, nor the virtues that he has… But I will protect Daein!
Sothe: Mm…
Micaiah: Sothe? Shall I try to guess what you are thinking right now?
Sothe: Oh…?
Micaiah: “I want there to come a day when Commander Ike and I can understand each other.” ...Right?
Sothe: *gasps* Th-That’s…
Micaiah: *giggles* I’m joking. But… thank you. It would be a good thing, if that day were to come…
*Music gradually gets louder and plays for about ~20 secs longer to conclude the CD. Bird chirping can be heard throughout the song.*
Spidersona Week! Day 5: Archenemy (Minor ish spoilers)
“Every hero has an opposite. The yang to the yin. The antagonist to the protagonist. Basically the big bad pulling the strings behind the curtain. And even though I’m a newbie I was no exception to this universal rule.”
Marcus recalls the many times he’s gotten laid out by Peter’s original rogues galley. Electro fried his brains once, sandman got himself all cozy in Marcus’ boots, and even Mysterio gave a strong right hook with floating boxing gloves. But those were joke villains, they never actually tried to kill him until he met Tombstone...
“L. Thompson Lincoln. Pale skin, sharp teeth, and a strange taste for dark suits. He’s the white shark who runs illegal activities while playing dolphin with the press. He’s fooled the whole city with donations and forced smiles but they weren’t enough to fool me.”
Marcus had taken notes on the whispers he heard throughout the city. The goons too scared to say the name of the man they feared. It took multiple nights and a few torn up bars to figure out who was in control of the underground businesses. With Peter worrying about Fisk Marcus figured he’d take down Lincoln and prove his worth. If only he knew it wouldn’t be easy...
“With a name like Lonnie I thought he’d be easy pickings. A pale guy in a suit shouldn’t be able to handle someone with spider strength. But I learned the hard way that Lincoln didn’t enjoy playing games.”
🕷🕷🕷🕷
The penthouse was nice. Large open living room, a piano in the far corner, and expensive paintings hung all along the walls. Marcus expected something fancy but this wasn’t what he envisioned.
Scaling up the building was easy and getting inside the home was even easier. The window was simply unlocked, meaning Lincoln must feel pretty comfortable in his own home. But when Marcus though he’d gotten in without tipping anyone off the main doors slammed open to reveal two beefy guards. They wore matching suits and carried some type of batons. Apparently they were the sparking kind.
Marcus glared at them but easily avoided their random swings, using his lean body to slip through the gaps between themselves. But not wanting to fool around Marcus quickly grabbed one of the men and webbed his hands together before throwing him towards the ceiling, firing more webbing to keep him up there. As for the second guard Marcus flawlessly jumped over him just fire two more Web lines at their back. As he was coming down he used his momentum to pick the guard off his feet and harshly slammed him into his stomach, knocking him unconscious.
“I’m not here to put the kids to bed. I want to know where Lincoln is.” Marcus demanded the first guard after jumping to the ceiling to start questing the outmatched goon. But before the man could get a word out a more deeper but calm voice spoke up, drawing in Marcus’ attention.
“You know I do take appointments. I dislike making people search for me.” Lincoln walked out from a corner with a blank expression. Unlike the guards he wore a more sleeker and expensive black suit. The rings on his fingers shined as the light reflected off them. Even from on the ceiling Marcus could tell this man was tall.
Abandoning the webbed up guard Marcus dropped to the ground to crouch a few inches away from Lincoln. “Yeah, and I dislike having to chase goons down on a weekend but here I am.”
Lincoln’s expression didn’t change as Marcus sassed him. His patients was one of his best traits. “What do you want Spider-Man?”
“The thugs on the streets gave you up, they revealed the true crime lord you keep hidden behind those fancy suits.” The young hero tried to make himself sound older and intimidating but it wasn’t exactly working the way he wanted. Even as he stood up to face off against Lincoln he realized that being 5’10 wasn’t really that tall. “I want you to cut all ties with the criminal empire. Including ones with Wilson Fisk.”
Lincoln actually reacted to that in a subtle way. He raised an eyebrow, a bit surprised that Marcus would know about their secretive partnership.
“This is the only warning I’m giving you Shark Bait. Back off or I’ll take you down.” Marcus clenches his fists and steps closer, letting himself become fully serious.
Lincoln’s sharp teeth pop out as he clenches them together, a glare forming onto his face. “I’ve been called many things throughout the years,” he too steps forward which makes Marcus take a step back, “but my favorite is Tombstone.” And with that being said he lunges at Marcus!
Even with spider sense going off Marcus wasn’t quick enough to avoid the right hook that had him seeing stars. Even as he stumbles back two more hits blindside him enough for Tombstone to kick him across the room.
Landing on a couch Marcus eyes widen as he sees Tombstone lift the entire thing up just to throw him across the room again. Luckily though he springs off the furniture to go into a swing, sticking out both his legs to kick the larger foe. But instead Tombstone grabs both his legs out of mid swing and slams him against a wall, sending cracks trailing up it. Without wasting time Tombstone did it again but this time slamming the poor hero right on top of the piano.
“I’ve had tougher men threaten me. Every single one of them thought they could cap me.” Tombstone released his grip on Marcus to tower over him yet again, cracking his knuckles. “The only thing they had in common was how they perished by my hands.”
Marcus winces but gets the energy to fire a shot of webbing into Tombstone’s face, blinding him for a hot second. With a strong push he’s able to jump out of the dent his body created in the instrument and deliver a more successful double kick. Tombstone falls into a wall and Marcus uses the opportunity to get in a few of his own hits. He gets in one good hook and uppercut before Tombstone slams his head against Marcus’.
“You just don’t get it kid.” Tombstone rips the webbing from his face before delivering a ground pound on Marcus, dropping him onto all fours. “I’ve gone toe to toe with the real Spider-Man and he’s never defeated me.”
Marcus tries to throw a punch but it’s caught by Tombstone easily. He squeezes hard enough to cause the hero to yell out in pain but not enough to break it. After all, this was the warning.
“Agh...shut up, I can beat-“ Marcus was interrupted by Tombstone heel kicking him through the air just to be stopped by the patio’s glass doors.
With body going numb Marcus simply went limp when the villain grabbed him by the neck and slammed him against the glass door, causing it to crack on impact. He would have lost all the air in his lungs if Tombstone wasn’t squeezing his neck so tightly.
A small grin forms when Marcus claws at Lincoln’s arm, trying hard to escape. Like a trapped bug. “Stick to the sidelines kid. Rough up a few bullies and save cats from Trees. Because as far as I can tell, you’re out of your league.”
With one last grunt Tombstone pulls Marcus back and slams him through the glass doors, shattering it into a million pieces. With little effort he tosses the young spider into the night sky to let him tumble through the air. He watched until the darkness swallowed up the defeated Spider-Man...
🕷🕷🕷🕷(Headcanons)
- Tombstone just as danger as Wilson Fisk. Due to playing the “victim” card the public doesn’t suspect illegal activities to be linked to him.
- Tombstone’s very daughter is secretly a villain as well, following in her fathers footsteps but not becoming as ruthless.
- His daughter actually has a minor crush on Marcus (whaaa spoilers)
- Tombstone doesn’t have the unbreakable skin like Luke cage but he is in fact overly strong and durable.
- Tombstone did in fact take down peter multiple times but out of respect he did hold back on doing violent crime. He’s now strictly a business man avoiding getting too much blood on his hands.
- Marcus only goes after Tombstone because he wants to help his mom rest up on some very draining cases.
🕸🕸🕸🕸
A/N: Sooo Tombstone has always been one of my favorite villains. Every since I was a kid Lonnie Thompson Lincoln was the coolest pale faced-leather wearing mercenary ever. I only began to love him more after the spectacular Spider-Man cartoon which I based this version of him off of. Except here he’s more violent and deadly, matching Fisk’s brutality while keeping his calm personality. But in the end I can only thank @spideymultiverse so much for making this week amazing. You’ve helped me construct this Spidersona with your prompts and that’s the best thing ever. I hope everyone reading this enjoys the story, I wouldn’t be anything without you guys.
Happy Anniversary Orphen!
Tumblr media
((So did you guys hear? Apparently Orphen is actually coming back! Yeah! To celebrate the 25th anniversary, Yoshinobu Akita and Yuuya Kusaka just decided to reboot him. I’m actually completely shocked by this. I’m glad, because I did want to come back, but I never really thought he would considering the series really isn’t all that popular last I checked. Heck, even Akita stated that not only even he’s completely sure why he’s bringing him back, but he’s also legitimately nervous about doing so. So, I checked out the trailer which was released on Youtube around March 20th
Tumblr media
(happy birthday to me BTW), and I have to say...
Tumblr media
IT. LOOKS. GLORIOUS!!! A decent updated style to the series. Not only that, but from the looks of it, Orphen’s original voice actor is coming back to voice him in the anime. Well, his Japanese voice actor at least. I’m not sure whether or not this is getting an English release. Even if it does, there is a chance they might switch his original voice actor for the show.
Tumblr media
Hey, if they somehow get Quinton Flynn to voice him like he did in the Orphen video game, I’ll be all for it.
Tumblr media
Speaking of the video game, I’ve been hearing small debates on whether or not this series would get another video game with this remake. Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised either way. Well, I might be shocked if they do, but not fully. It would be possible considering that despite the fact they only had one stand alone game, you have to keep in mind that it’s not the only game that featured Orphen and others.
Tumblr media
Heroes Phantasia was an anime crossover game that featured Orphen as well as his sister series, Slayer, Darker than Black, Sgt. Frog, and others. Granted, it’s a Japan only release, but it’s not that old of a game as it was released in early 2012. Not only that, while the game was developed by Witchcraft, it was also published by a well known company,
Tumblr media
Bandai Namco. You know the same company responsible for publishing other titles like, oh I dunno...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
yeah...something tells me this WON’T be their first time dipping their toes in a game based off anime. As for the reason why I won’t be surprised if Orphen DOESN’T get a new game or a remake of Scion of Sorcery is because Scion of Sorcery tends to have mixed reviews. Some deemed it okay while others considered it to be one of the worst games ever. In my opinion, it’s flawed, but an alright game. As a launch title, while it doesn’t really stack up to the likes of Tekken Tag Tournament 1, it is an alright game worth playing at least once. In fact, I’m playing the game again as we speak now that I finally finished Shantae 4 and from the looks of things, I won’t be playing Devil May Cry 5 anytime soon. Even if Orphen does get another game, considering it’s popularity, it might not make it overseas.
Tumblr media
It could end up with the same fate as the Sengoku Basara series, only having one title released overseas while keeping all the other titles in Japan despite how much the fans demand for a new game, myself included.
Tumblr media
Now, if they do decide to remake Scion of Sorcery, I do have a few ideas on what they could do
Tumblr media
aside from keeping Quinton Flynn of course.
Tumblr media
While I don’t have an issue with the game’s story, I do believe something should be done with the gameplay. The way I see it, we could go down either one of 2 routes. The first route is to make tweeks on the current system it uses, that is an RPG that relies on timing attacks while taking advantage of the environments. First thing would be to have more battles in the game and not just a set amount of scripted fights. I personally didn’t mind the game having scripted battles because unlike other games such as Project X Zone, this game doesn’t have a level up system. At the same time, I would prefer that we have more battles to be able to go through for a longer gameplay session. Even if they still don’t include a level up system, it could be used to practice timing our spells in battles to use them better. Also, no random encounters. Let us pick and choose our fights freely. If they do include a level up system I think it should be for increasing the speed and timing of each different spell that we use.
Tumblr media
Do not, and I repeat, DO NOT have a level up system and scripted only fights because that doesn’t mix. If you’re going to make us level up to become stronger, you should give us a chance to go back and train if we feel we’re not ready to progress. This is especially the case if your video game features characters that have weaknesses, because if you’re under leveled, can’t go back and train and your next fight is against a person that’s guaranteed to kill you in one blow, then you’re out of luck.
Tumblr media
The usage of items is also debatable for me. While I personally didn’t mind not being able to use items during battle since we can simply restart each one by changing our equipment when things don’t go our way, I do prefer if we could use items in battle. Granted, that means there should be either more chests in the game to find items or a shop available to purchase them, but as long as you include more fights to go through along with them, then I don’t see much of a problem. Actually, you could remove the shop and have the player rely on only a set amount of items and consider it a harder difficulty mode. You know for the hardcore gamers that enjoy punishing themselves. The camera could also use some work. Turning the camera around using the shoulder buttons was too fast for my liking. I think it should work a bit like Spyro. By which I mean I can adjust how fast I can move the camera. Also there are some areas where it’s too dark for me to see certain things. It could use a bit of brightening up.
Tumblr media
The lip syncing and facial expressions could use some work too. It just seems really off to me most of the time.
Tumblr media
The second route you could do with the game would be to change the gameplay in its entirety. It could still work as an RPG, but you have to keep in mind that Orphen’s not just a sorcerer. He’s also a trained assassin. Therefore, I think changing the genre isn’t a bad idea.
Tumblr media
I have heard from one person that they would like it if it was more like Breath of the Wild.
Tumblr media
While I do laugh anyone thinking that changing it so our spells would have very limited usage and rely on tower region unlocks is a GOOD idea at all, I do like the possibility of adding a bit more exploration on our plate.
Tumblr media
Giving us free roam to explore the island to check out its secrets can make for more exciting gameplay. Maybe we could find some new weapons and spells that we could use later in the story,
Tumblr media
or better yet, add some bonus boss battle that’ll give us better stuff as a reward for beating them, whether it’s characters in the Orphen series that haven’t been featured in the game before
Tumblr media
or characters from other series making crossover cameos. Seriously, Orphen vs Dante and/or Bayonetta. Make it happen people. If you prefer to stick to the more linear path, then a more hack-and-slash style gameplay might also work, especially if we’re going to have boss battles like that bully Minotaur in Sephy’s story path. Since the game is all about timing our strikes, it does make sense to me if we do down a more Devil May Cry or Bayonetta focused style by knowing when to block and dodge and taking opportunities to use our elemental spirits or spamming the crap out of ridiculous combos.
Tumblr media
Actually, making the elemental spirits work similar to Madame Butterfly in Bayonetta might be freakin’ awesome now that I think about it. Imagine the pinnicale of the sun lion throw a huge punch and engulf everything in flames or using the hail of heavens to warp around letting a trail of ice for enemies to get frozen in or at least trip in hilarious fashion.
Tumblr media
And now that I think about it, Sephy fights by turning her dancing into magic and can summon elemental spirits of her own so...turning this into Bayonetta might be the best option for remaking this game.
Tumblr media
Then again, Zeus is a powerful mercenary that doesn’t use magic at all, so maybe we should have a mixture of Bayonetta and Devil May Cry. Regardless of switching the style or keeping the RPG genre, there is one thing that definitely needs fixing...
Tumblr media
for crying out loud, give Cleo more ways to fight then just sending Leki to bite everything. She’s not a sorcerer of any kind, but she can use a sword at least to some degree.
Tumblr media
Even then, her pet, Leki, is a wolven, one of the most dangerous animals in the Orphen series. He can make anything explode on Cleo’s command. His parents can easily shatter the minds of others! Give them something other than
Tumblr media
...that.
Tumblr media
Like I said, this is only “if” they decide to remake the game or at the very least come up with a new game for the series. And considering its current popularity, that’s a pretty big “if” on its own, let alone getting an English release. As stated before, no one, not even the creators are sure exactly why this is coming back. It’s a decision they made that just sprung up from the looks of things. With that said, it’s best to manage our expectations for the time being. Maybe the series remake will be as good as it was before if not slightly better. Maybe it’ll be so amazing that the popularity will skyrocket and become a new mainstream series, or maybe it’ll be another disappointment like Kingdom Hearts 3. With how things currently are, the series could go either way. One thing is for certain is that despite everything, at the very least, I’m glad that it’s coming back for another shot. Happy 25th Anniversary you bad-ass magic ninja. Let’s make it a good one.))
Castaways On A Foreign Planet (1/5)
It's already the ninth in my timezone so I went ahead and posted this. This was written back in July but with everything that happened RL wise since then and the launch of The Better Hero, I procrastinated into publishing it. But hey, it's the @kacchakobittersweetweek and I'm going to upload the two chapters I've written so far of this Space Pilots AU for it. This chapter is for the theme of Fall.
Genre: Sci-Fi/Romance
Pairing: Bakugou x Uraraka
Rating: T
Summary: Ochako thought she had settled into her job as a mercenary. Katsuki thought there was only one reason to fly. Together they thought they knew their place in this war. But all it took to question everything was find each other again.
Ochako resisted the urge to puke.
Her stomach still couldn't handle returning from stasis to full function after Light Road travel. She swallowed the bile. Tapping her fingers around the controllers, she waited until the wave of nausea passed. Outside of her Orca's windscreen, a vast asteroid field spread around the reddish-green planet like an impregnable wall. Ochako noticed little sparks of light glinting between the huge space rocks seconds before a shrill noise echoed through the intercom.
"Welcome, Fighter 2-7-3," The unemotional, computer-like voice said. It used to give Ochako the chills but the feeling had died down over time. "Are you in position?"
"Yeah," she said. "What's the plan?"
"Eliminate all targets."
Even if Ochako had never met the person talking to her face to face, she could swear they always smiled when they gave orders like this. It was a gut feeling she couldn't shake no matter how hard she tried.
"Roger that."
Her spaceship glided between the suspended space rocks, looking for a secluded spot. Head-on attacks weren’t Ochako's style. She preferred ambushing the unlucky fellows who would cross her path. When the field covered the spaceship from every side, she halted the engine and leaned back in her seat.
The hunt had just begun.
"Where are you?!" Kaminari cried out.
The Marlins swarmed around Katsuki like a school of hungry piranhas. His shields were keeping him safe for now as he flew through the asteroid field.
"Don't know. Can't see a thing with those fuckers on my tail."
"I'm barely getting your signal, dude. You have to get back here!"
Katsuki took a sharp turn around a big asteroid. Some of the Marlins crashed on it. He grinned despite anger burning hot in his chest. How these douches had lured him so deep into the asteroid field still escaped his understanding. The Peregrine's radar was going bananas the closer he got to the planet. Katsuki couldn't pinpoint where the fuck he was or how many enemies were out there. Such a classic move from the Alliance to set the game on their own terms. It pissed him off to no end.
"Bakugou!" Kaminari shouted through heavy static.
"Quit yapping, Drooly! I'll be there in a few."
He just had to make them lose him first.
Katsuki turned right, heading straight for where the concentration of the field was thickest. The Marlins followed; their iridescent wings shining under the light of the closest star. Two of them were orbiting the planet, which was twice the size of Earth as much Katsuki could tell. He had seen simulations of the Union's first home-planet, but never the actual thing. It was several light years away from this war to be concerned with it.
A blast ricocheted on his right wing, pulling Katsuki back to the fight. His shields were down. The Peregrine flew over and under asteroids, his pursuers always a step behind. Katsuki clenched his teeth as he avoided laser shot after laser shot. Ahead, two space rocks were on a collision course with each other. Katsuki zoomed between them but the smaller ships didn't follow. The other side appeared quiet. He slowed down the engines just a click, trying to catch his breath. His radar continued showing gibberish. The ship tilted left due to a strong pull from the planet's direction.
Damn the Alliance and its fucking ambushes, Katsuki thought, hardening his hold around the controls.
The intercom was dead. If someone decided to strike, this was the perfect opportunity. A sense of foreboding dropped on Katsuki like a bucket of ice-cold water. He spotted the irregular shadows on the nearby asteroids seconds before the other spaceship attacked.
Ochako ignored the feeling of blood rushing to her head. The Orca flew towards the Peregrine like a killer whale rising to catch an unsuspecting bird flying too close to the sea's surface. The pilot of this ‘bird' dodged just in time. The Orca's bottom scrapped the other ship's hull. Ochako turned her spaceship around, activating her guns; their barrels pointing at the Peregrine.
The onslaught started with the flick of a switch. Ochako heard and felt nothing more than a low rumble under her feet as the shots were fired. This distance made things less personal. It was just a job, and all she had to do for this to count was destroy the ship. With the signal gone, the Alliance thought they had one less pilot to worry about. But these pilots could survive for an hour in outer space and the Union never left soldiers behind. Ochako always counted on that fact. Killing former comrades was a line she would never cross; no matter how much was the payment.
Something glinted outside. Instead of avoiding her firing shots, the Peregrine flew towards the Orca.
Are they insane? She thought, horrified.
Her hands danced animated over the controls. The asteroids were packed closely together and the navigator was out of commission. It'd be hard to maneuver with her bigger ship. But she wasn't going to fall victim to a suicidal pilot. Not when she hadn't reached her goal yet.
Pulling at the controls, Ochako forced the Orca to retreat. Bullets ricocheted against the golden surface of the Peregrine as it filled her entire windscreen. She tried to dodge. Her body lurched forward from an impact. Lists of data started overflowing her side screen, indicating that half of the ship had been destroyed. The oxygen levels dropped rapidly. Ochako didn't want to leave the ship. It had served her like the best of comrades. But with a heavy heart and out of breath, she activated the emergency protocol. The pilot's seat tilted into horizontal position. Ochako pressed her arms on her sides as the seat dropped under the cockpit. Fluorescent bulbs flickered alive, illuminating the walls surrounding her with a purple light. The protective glass slid into place and the escape pod was launched into the void.
Katsuki's sole objective had been to scare off the other pilot so they'd crash. He hadn't expected getting caught in the explosion or the Orca’s remains to clog his engine. Without a way to battle the pull, the Peregrine started plummeting to the planet. The alarm screeched. Every light bulb inside the cockpit blinked red. Katsuki’s fingers around the controls were going numb. But the controls didn't budge.
Blue, so bright it hurt his eyes, replaced the darkness of space as he passed through the stratosphere. The cockpit was overheating and his spacesuit clung on his body like second skin. Pressure glued Katsuki to his seat. The wings had bent in front of him as if the ship was a real bird free falling. He had to open them. Katsuki steeled his feet against the front of the cockpit and pulled. The spaceship twisted like a spindle. When he faced the ground below, Katsuki pressed the buttons on his controls. The wings unfolded like a real falcon's followed by a loud groan. The ship started leaning more to the right. Despite his attempts to fix this, the Peregrine continued to balance like a seesaw in the air.
For an instant, he looked up from the control panel. Some sort of red area spread over the horizon. Katsuki darted past its border without problems, but he kept losing altitude. The ship dropped under the plates beneath him, revealing them to be trees. Branches and trunks pounded on the hull like it was raining stones. Something struck the ship from below and Katsuki's head crashed on the control panel. It left him in a daze, the rows of trees before him blurring the more he stared at them. The view cleared and the ship nose-dived. Metal screeched as the ‘beak' dug a line into the ground. Vibrations shook the cockpit like an earthquake until the stern settled down with a thud several meters later. Dust covered the windscreen, harsh light obscuring the view outside. His helmet's filters picked up a foul smell but Katsuki's body felt too heavy to move. A monotonous tune ringed in his ears. Black spots danced in front of his eyes. They covered his entire vision, and he was falling all over again.
 Stars twinkled at the sky above when Katsuki woke up. He lay on his back, something soft supporting his head. The stench of smoke filled the air along with sounds of burning wood softly crumbling. Heat washed over him from the left. He turned his head. Someone had kneeled next to a small fire. It spurted flaming specks when the other person threw one more log inside, illuminating briefly their exposed arms and their bulky metallic boots.
Anti-gravity boots, Katsuki's tired brain concluded. Thieves and mercenaries were fond of these; a crowd he was better off dead than get caught mingling with it.
Whomever that person was, they hadn't noticed Katsuki was awake yet. It gave him the advantage of a surprise attack. He only needed a weapon. At an arm's length lay a belt like a dormant snake, the handle of a gun peeking from one of the pouches. Katsuki dragged the belt silently towards him. The Alliance's open palm insignia adorned the clasp. Propping himself on his elbow, he pointed the gun at the enemy's head. His entire body was shaking from the effort, but Katsuki clenched his teeth and cocked the safety.
The stranger turned abruptly. It was a woman. After the initial shock, her dark eyes zeroed on his face; her chest rising and falling in controlled breaths. Strands of hair from her side bangs clung on her round face like vines. Producing a knife out of nowhere in her hand, she raised it to defend.
A weird feeling rushed through Katsuki's chest, and for a moment he thought he'd pass out again. But he didn't break eye contact. It wasn't just her appearance. The way she was ready to strike without the slightest hesitation brought something from the depths of his mind; the memory of a girl who didn't back out from any challenge, and who had almost killed him once already.
"Uraraka?"
She furrowed her brows for a moment before recognition flashed in her eyes too. "Bakugou?"
He steadied the hand holding the gun. "Just my luck. Of all the assholes in the universe, it had to be you."
"Glad to see you too," she mumbled.
"So, you're making deals with those Alliance dicks now? What an upgrade."
"Oh, really? How many people you had to threaten to make it into the fleet?"
Katsuki gritted his teeth. "For your information, I landed this spot with my skills alone. Which is more than you can ever hope to land. Say, what's the score now? I bet it's at least ten ships you've crashed so far."
"You're one to talk.” Uraraka scoffed. “Did you forget how you tried to ram into me just a few hours ago?"
"That was an evasive maneuver. Did you forget how you crash-landed a Sparrow right into of the Academy's freaking entrance?!”
"I had it under control! It barely reached the front steps anyway."
Katsuki still had a hard time believing this. No one amongst the crowd had noticed the spaceship emitted a trail of smoke until it started falling. Trained pilots or not, they all scattered like frightened children. The Sparrow's turbines raised every blade of grass and stone in its vicinity as the ship skidded on the courtyard. When the terrible whine stopped and the dust cloud cleared, Katsuki had found the wing a breath away from his neck. He backtracked; glaring daggers at the cockpit as the Sparrow's pilot unfastened their seatbelts. After they had scrambled down from the ship, he approached them to demand an apology. But Katsuki had never expected Uraraka's defiant stare when she took off her helmet. His heart, already beating wildly from the near-death experience, skipped a beat. The effect only lasted a moment because she melted into a mess of apologies right after.
The present Uraraka sighed. "Can we forget about this for now? You shouldn’t be moving. Your wounds haven't healed yet."
Despite every joint of his body protesting in the process, Katsuki managed to stand. His head felt woozy, but his grip on the gun remained steady.
"I'm fine," he said.
Uraraka carefully stood up, keeping her hands visible. "You busted your head hard. The control panel of your ship had a decent dent on it." She paused. Her eyes flickered to the gun for a second, seemingly contemplating over her next words. "From what I managed to see in the smoke."
"Smoke?"
"Fortunately, the cooling system put the fire under control before anything exploded."
"Exploded?!"
Uraraka pointed somewhere behind him. Katsuki looked over his shoulder. His spacecraft lay like the carcass of a sea creature washed-up on an Earth's shore. The flames barely cast a light on it, but the charred front of the ‘beak' was visible.
Katsuki glared back at her, rage beating in his veins. "My ship."
"What about mine?" After thrusting her knife back to her boot, Uraraka placed her fists on her waist. "The remains are still floating up there."
"Not my fault you can't fly straight to save your life. No wonder they kicked you out."
She gasped. "I saved you and that's all you have to say?!"
"It’s your fault I was about to die in the first place. That doesn't make us even."
"Ugh… You're impossible!" Uraraka marched past him and scooped up the thing Katsuki's head had been resting. Flapping her jacket like freshly washed laundry, she put it on and stomped back to the fire.
"What do you think you're doing?" Katsuki asked.
"Leaving." Uraraka picked up a box from the ground. "I've had enough. Find someone else to blame for your shortcomings."
"Don't go playing the victim," he said. "Traitor."
"You don't know anything," she said. Her eyes were rimmed with tears when she looked up again.
The sight unnerved him, but his expression didn't falter. "I know enough to not wanna see your face ever again."
"Fine! Rot in your misery for all I care."
"Don't threaten me, you third-rate pilot!"
Uraraka held her head high, not bothering to give him another reply. She walked away until the darkness around them swallowed her form.
The minutes came and passed, but she didn't come back. All the rage and adrenaline Katsuki felt evaporated from his body, leaving behind a hollow husk that ached everywhere. He holstered the gun.
The waning moon rose from behind a rock complex on his right, shedding light into the hollow he had landed. Lanky trees grew out of the harsh ground behind the Peregrine, which was revealed in all of its destroyed glory. Scratches and bents marred the ship's golden surface; some of the hull's guiding panels were gone, exposing the mechanism underneath. The right wing was tilted in a weird angle too. Katsuki climbed on the ‘beak'. His muscles screamed in protest, but he balanced on the smooth surface without fail. Inside the broken windscreen, the cockpit was a mess of melted polymer. Sparks flew when Katsuki probed the control panel with his foot.
It could be worse, he thought.
The main engine was located in the middle of the ship, so it should have been out of harm's way. If it was still operational, at least he would have a slightly bigger chance of getting off this planet. But a closer inspection could wait.
Exhaustion dropped on his shoulders like a heavy blanket. Katsuki grabbed one of the windscreen's exposed bars, ready to slide down. But he caught sight of his reflection on the remaining glass. A rectangle shape was shimmering on his forehead. He leaned closer and poked the edges of it. Pain stung him like millions of needles.
"You busted your head hard."
Apparently, Uraraka had patched up his wounds along with getting him out of the ship. And what Katsuki had done in return? Called her names, demeaned her and stole her gun. He didn't like owning people, especially someone who had seen him vulnerable like this. Still, he didn't know where all this anger had come from. Was it because she was with the Alliance or because she had disappeared without even a goodbye? Words had always come out wrong when Uraraka was involved even in their Academy days. Whenever she was around, Katsuki would get this restless energy he didn't know how to handle. As if she lightened up a fuse inside him and if he didn't release it in some way, he would explode.
He dropped his hand. Next to the fire, his cracked helmet stood glinting like a lonely star.
