we all love enemies to lovers with reconciliation and love and tender moments and that jazz but where’s the love for enemies who hate each others guts but they fuck sometimes like there is no love there however they have (safe, very consensual) sex when they fight. like damn they’re hot as fuck however I hate them.

there is no “shit i think im in love with them moment,” no buildup to a big confession that shocks both of them to their core (and then one of them doesn’t know how to deal with their feelings and whoopsie-daisies, they’re out of control and accidentally kill the other (ive never seen that one but I have emotions about it)).

they literally just hate each other and are mortal enemies but when you’re horny you’re horny and when the person that has you pinned against the wall with a knife is sexy as fuck, maybe you shove a knee between their legs, maybe you kiss them a little bit, maybe you get a little handsy, stuff happens, but it doesn’t have any effect on your relationship, you just. fight. and. fuck.

Magnus’ Hair Braids

Thinking about the bit in A Thousand Sons where it mentions Magnus had his hair pulled back into three braids for his appearance at Nikaea. Thinking about how this differs from his appearance any other time, and what that means.

Like, the other big event he attends in A Thousand Sons is the Triumph of Ullanor, and even for that huge big deal party the book doesn’t mention him getting his hair dolled up. And he doesn’t pull it back out of the way for battle or anything like that. (Probably it just magically doesn’t get in the way, I guess.)

Plus, besides the books, official art always depicts him with his hair out, flowing free from behind his, you know the face-helmet thing, what’s the proper word for it, I dunno. So in this context it stands out to me that he had his hair braided for Nikaea.

In the book, it sort of sets up this idea that Magnus is expecting Nikaea to be something like a scholarly conference, not a court trial. But even so, he would have known there were going to be people with some Strong Opinions about him and his embrace of psychic abilities and the power of the Great Ocean, etc etc

So I’m thinking about his braided hair as a symbolic gesture of sorts. Whereas usually he just goes around being unabashedly himself, in this case he is kind of making a show of restraint. It’s like the opposite of a threat display, but it’s not an act of submission. It’s more like when you hunker down to talk to a small animal that is scared of you.

Magnus is trying to reach out to an audience that is at best wary and in many cases hostile. He knows people are afraid of him. He can’t stop being himself but he can contain his silhouette so that he seems less wild and unpredictable. It’s a visual indicator of control and therefore safety. “See? I’m okay really.”

Thinking out loud about wing aus and you know I've seen a lot of different things for Bruce from eagles to owls but I'm here to propose something else:

Pigeon wings.

Just think, they're a symbol of cities. Domestic animals that were just let free. They come in so many different colour morphs it wouldn't be far fetched for Bruce to have black wings.

That iconic creaking noise their wings make when they fly, criminals begin to fear that noise never knowing if it's just a bird or the Goddamn Batman.

Okay, so I'm probably like super late to this whole topic and whatever, but I wanted to share my two cents before I forget about it.

We've all seen those comics and incorrect quotes in which the owl gang (specifically Willow) calls Hunter "Caleb" instead, and yeah, it's a nice sentiment, that's how he introduced himself to the flyer derby team and all that, yada yada, but

I don't think that Hunter would want to be called that.

Hunter struggles with a sense of self for like all of Season 2B. He finds out he's a grimwalker in Hollow Mind and then his entire identity is just thrown out and he's left reeling for answers.

Which is why I don't think he'd like being called Caleb.

Especially after Hollow Mind, I doubt he'd want anything to do with Belos, and the name Caleb brings him right back to him. It's like he's stuck in a maze, and every possible exit leads back to Belos.

And yeah, Hunter is more of a title than it is a name, I get that.

But my point is that Hunter would want to find his own identity. Being called Caleb forces him into the mold that he was made in, groups him back into being related to Belos when that is the LAST thing he wants.

I think that once all the fighting finished, and he could finally focus on himself and healing, he would take his name and reclaim it. Make it his own and work out of the habits that he formed while being the golden guard.

He isn't Caleb, and he never was, even if he was made from the very think Caleb was, Hunter is his own person, who has his own thoughts and feelings that differ from his original counterpart.

I can't tell if this only makes sense to me and sounds incoherent to everyone else, but I wanted to contribute.

the way the backstory arc sets up the origins of rin and yukio's names very early on..... and then spends the entire arc showing how "the yuki-otoko" is so much like rin-- while "rinka" has more in common with yukio than anyone could have guessed
