yeah, that underage doubtful anon about minors filming spicy scenes... that just seems like another kind of byler doubt to me, except rather than being about byler getting together at all, THIS flavour of byler doubt is byler sex doubt! Hahahahaha

we dont need that at all!! byler sex is speculative and somewhat far-fetched, and even though I believe it has serious potential to show up in the show, its still the wacky cousin of the byler community who showed up with some beers and a boombox. it's so fun at spicy byler tumblr, and if we start bringing classic Byler Doubt TM in, we're just going to ruin stuff! cos sex isnt guaranteed here anyway, so why doubt it? we've only just got through the gauntlet of the underage issue, please let's just have fun now for a bit lol

also im going to add my own tangential poll to this post: for me, one of the biggest 'evidences' of spicy byler times incoming is that noah and finn (noah in particular) react in a certain kind of blushy/secretive way during press/social media that does not merely speak to me of their characters getting a simple romantic ending, or just a kiss. i can completely understand why many people don't take anything outside of the show itself as evidence, and i wish i didnt, but i just can't help it. cos shows are fiction and made to manipulate you as a viewer, whereas real people, even actors, have tells. im not claiming to know finn and noah's personal tells, but for me, as two humans, their body language does not lie!

noah especially gives off the vibes that he will have to portray something extremely giggle-worthy (and thus spicy) next season. that tiktok at penn where he almost gave spoilers? 'there's some crazy stuff, some iconic scenes in there' and his smile was GUILTY AF. yeah, crazy stuff could be a showdown with vecna or a lore reveal. but would that make him BLUSH???? and it could be *just* a masturbation fantasy scene (would love that for the narrative too), but then we also now seeing finn blushing furiously and flickering his eyes around during press like he's in an interrogation room whenever s5 is mentioned. it just screams 'two friends and coworkers who know they have to get it on on-screen' to me.

so has anyone else got finn and noah's behaviour as good evidence for spicy byler incoming?

which could honestly apply to both will and mike, one being all the other dreams about and being jealous about how naive they are, and also both of them faking their smiles, mike because of his failing relationship with el and will pretending to be ok with it.

ok so for the second one is true blue by boygenius, and although the title screams will as the chorus says that the love is 'true blue', which is obviously mike's colour, there's a bunch of lyrics that connect to both of them.

Totally with you on a) the defintion of shipping and b) that it would not be narratively satisfying to have the show go in the Will and Mike get together direction, for all the reasons you listed.

The dialogue around it also makes it nearly impossible to find meta or even just discussions around Mike that don't centre the possibility of a romantic relations with Will and it's so frustrating. I love that little guy and I just want to talk about how much he loves his friends!

But then the first thing I created for this fandom was a byler breakup fic so... I'm probably not in the majority.

Ah thank you! Yeah. The series is grounded in the friendship the party has. That's the first thing we learn about them. It feels insulting to both the characters and anyone who likes the non romantic aspects of relationships when people insinuate that Will couldn't have a happy ending without dating Mike. (Mike doesn't owe Will a romantic relationship. Will doesn't owe Mike one!! It also feels insulting that people say there's going to be a time skip and I guess Will is still pining for him? Let him let go at that point Sheesh.).

The basis of any romantic relationship, especially in canon, between Will and Mike (or any party members) is a deep and strong friendship. Acting like those aren't as important is so rude to people and mischaracterizes them. Mike Wheeler loves his friends so much he would jump off a cliff for any of them. He would deny their death with the barest shred of illogical proof even when presented with a body. He would try to contact a girl for almost a year to see if she was still alive. He holds his friend's hand when it seems he's fading away, insists on going into danger to help with a distraction, and apologizes better to a friend than his girlfriend. He's a moody, angsty teenager, going through a lot of emotions and confusion, and can be an asshole even to his friends, but my god what are you doing if you deny Mike's platonic relationships mean everything to him.

It's also disregarding Will's relationships too! Like. El is his sister now!! You cannot separate that. Would Will want to date Mike even? Loving and wanting to date are different. Dating a sister's ex? Legit so many arguments are just saying El doesn't love Mike, and I guess implying she wouldn't give a shit if Mike stsrted dating a friend that became a brother who is also the only one as deeply connected to the Upside Down as her. It gives me the vibes of people like...taking away the agency El has in her own feelings and saying she loves Mike.

Maybe he just wants to be able to honest about his feelings. Get them off his chest. Keep his friendship with Mike but have everything out in the open, and they can work through that together. Strengthen their friendship and maybe be open to potentially dating in the future (there is an apocalypse on!) while also strengthening their friendship with El. So many people just. Ignore her and her feelings in all this, as though both Will and Mike have not showed they valued her feelings greatly. Why would that not factor in at all? Why would Will put his sister into that position? Would it not be awkward for Mike too?

That's why it wouldnt be satisfactorily executed in S5. The characters and the audience need time to process any breakup between El and Mike. Let them cool off and us register it. Another anon said if they were going blr canon route they should have ended mlvn in S4, and I agree. It needs Breathing room. Not just them breaking up and a two year time skip where we're told time has passed but for us it feels like nothing, so the impact isn't the same and it doesn't have the same satisfaction of knowing they've worked it out but just being told about it. If that makes sense?

Plus the series has struggled with ending romo relationships, and the only one starting that wasn't awkward or weird (Both Nancy and Jon AND Joyce and Hop have Murray be the catalyst which annoying and kinda lazy, not to mention the cheating) was Lucas and Max. That doesn't paint a picture of confidence in me. Sometimes a ship going canon is not actually good. Sometimes in fandom you are actually thankful a ship that honestly should have been canon by the end, or at least post-series didn't, because whatever the show runners would have done with it would have probably ruined whatever dynamic that made them compelling in the first place. it may feel like a betrayal or rip off at first, and would likely continue to, but with time comes a feeling of oh. Maybe it's better this way... Would come.

So yes. Seeing how people reacted to me simply saying that, by the end of the series, I don't think it could satisfyingly become canon, while prioritizing their relationships with each other, Not a lot of nuance is allowed, it seems. Though I'm sure many shippers are cool and chill, it's really just a few people who are loud about it that try to inhibit discussion or meta, it's a damn shame that the only discussion allowed to those shippers is when or how it will be canon. Where's the fun in that? Everyone can interact with fandom differently, and it's a shame some folks want to dictate how others do so.

i couldn’t genuinely care less about what is happening on 90% of byler twt because they’re almost always months late to theories we’ve had going around on tumblr, a huge chunk of them are like 14/15 yrs old and it definitely shows, they’re fucking rude, and create problems for no reason other than to create problems. i deactivated my st twt acc for a reason and i sort of follow byler/st stuff on my personal acc but thats it. it’s truly a wasteland there and the vibes on byler tumblr have been rancid lately and i don’t want that seeping over here even more.

idk if it’s just me but i did not get the vibe that will was disgusted or that you were disrespecting people with different preferences for bylers dynamic? i personally think that in canon mike would be a service top but i tend to generally enjoy reading more bottom mike fics esp since there’s a much more limited amount so it feels like a treat every time. i feel like you’re creating your own little world in wwtwcts that obviously stems from canon but the characters will be morphed by what happens to them in your world As Well As what happened to them in canon. so in your world mike and and will have an established dynamic so saying that they stray back to that dynamic even when will bottoms makes a lot of sense and i think it’s written really well like almost that his desperation and longing for mike in that moment makes him more dominant. ik you said that you feel like your bad at writing bottom will but that’s genuinely been one of my favorite chapters so far, like even though it’s such a switch up from a lot of the rest of the fic in dynamics it feels so logical and natural (and also hot lmao). and when will says that he likes topping more that doesn’t feel like a dis to the people who prefer bottom will, it feels more like a character driven line that is accurate to this version of will

this is not to say the other anons feelings were wrong or anything and maybe i’d feel different if i had a stronger preference for bottom will but im so in love with how you portray their relationship and its dynamics, like even if its not everyone’s idea of canon its still a really fun, insightful, and consistently in character look at this version of them <333

i definitely see mike as a service top too because that still falls in line with him being a little more submissive while wanting to do everything to make will feel good! in the chapters where mike tops, the 'service top' side of him is more than likely going to come into play

i'm also really relieved to hear that it's been one of your favorite chapters since it was one that i struggled so much with! after re-reading the chapter myself i think that it actually flows well and is consistent with their dynamic as i've written it

and i love your point that this portrayal of their relationship and its dynamics is my version of it! as long as they still are in character (which i believe they are and have gotten a lot of feedback supporting that) then i'm happy with how i'm portraying them

mike apparently has more trauma then el will and max to some of you let’s be real you guys keep creating problems for that kid to have. Hell some of you give their problems to HIM like what’s up with all the father abuse shit, we don’t know anything about Ted only that he’s an absent father. He’s not abusive like Lonnie is mike is not getting abused. Mike also didn’t go through upside down shit he’s just the side character helping el and Will since s2 let’s be fr. “Has connections to all the characters” so does hopper. Sure his character arc needs to be done but he’s not gonna be as important as el and will or heck max because she’s literally in a coma and we don’t know her fate.

I can still watch the show and not care about this guy it’s very easy to do the duffers made him unlikable anyway. If byler does happen im okay with it because it’s what Will deserves but if I were to write the show mike would not be with him. He would be with a less annoying person. But going back to him just not being as important it’s literally true I remember the fandom hating on mike when season 4 just finished but ppl have deluded themselves so hard they made him 100000 issues to uwufy him so they could excuse all the weird shit he’s done. “Hes seen wills body come out of the water” so did all his friends why are we always focusing on this kid when Will has other friends.

If I were to write the show Will would also be interacting with all the rest of the characters instead of being glued to mikes side. But that’s just me haaha

and holy shit can someone finally tell me where the people are hiding that "steal" other characters plots? Mike has more trauma than anyone else... who ever said that. where are the Ted is physcially abusive people i've never seen them... have you considered just unfollowing accounts that say things that annoy you? because i've never seen any of these takes, only people complaining about them, and i'm doing great vibing on my dash

and please do tell me how Hopper has connections to all the characters, i'd love to hear your reasoning for this. Hopper has never interacted with Lucas, Dustin or Max. also none of the teens like Nancy or Jonathan. if i wanted to make the argument that Anyone else could somehow have as many on screen relationships as Mike (there isn't anyone) Hopper would be one of the last people i'd go for because he only exists in direct relation to the Byers and El plots. he doesn't get involved with anyone outside of those

nothing of what you're saying is even worth arguing with at this point, you're just really mad about a character existing and trying to rationalize how that character won't be important for the finale despite that being where the story is headed. Mike isn't going to "steal" anyone's plots or traumas i don't know why you even think that. he's a separate character with individual experiences and unique trauma. he's not going to take anything away from other characters

"why are we focusing on Mike" have you heard of cinematography before? ask the show why we're constantly getting close ups of Mike crying in these situations instead of Will's other friends. i'm not sitting here zooming in on Mike's face anytime something happens to Will or El. the show is nice and already blast the close up right over our screens because shockingly Mike's reactions seem to matter here somehow

but anyway explaining all of this to someone who just wants to complain is probably a waste of time. but as you already pointed out yourself, you're not the one writing the show so what you would do is thankfully irrelevant

this is an interesting question for sure…

i have to say it evolved a lot over the duration of writing.

but first, here is the playlist for anyone who hasn’t listened to it yet:

okay so…

very early on i decided i wanted to pick instrumental songs for this story over songs with lyrics…at least, i wanted the playlist to feel like it could be a soundtrack to a movie because the story is inspired by a movie…and initially i only had a few songs when i first started writing back in august (mostly songs from the big giant circles album there came an echo—which was because of the song outside the realm that plays during the “crazy together” scene, and i also had some from the stranger things OST too)

but in between writing i would spend some time looking up songs, usually starting with similar artists to the songs i already had and honestly i have to say it was kind of a rabbit hole situation with how i ended up with most of them—though sometimes i specifically looked something up, like “synth style christmas songs” which is how i found joy to the synthwave world and holiday nights and i also added a lot of the OST songs from the movie archive because i watched the movie in october and thought they fit well.

and after doing all that i ended up with a playlist that was close to 8 hours long and made up of 126 songs (the unofficial version)…but i wanted to narrow it down so it wasn’t so long (official playlist is like 53 songs and 3 hours)…..and my main reason for doing that was so that (if you’re someone like me) you could have it play in the background while reading to set the mood….

and i narrowed it down by simply reading through each finished chapter while listening to the songs to decide if they fit the vibes for the scenes (a rather time consuming process, haha)—oh and i even created separate chapter playlists while i was figuring this all out too (which outside the realm being a song for ch 4 shouldn’t be too surprising lol) because i took it a step further and tried to keep the duration/length of each chapter playlist to the average reading speed for the overall word count of each chapter (if that makes sense…like ch 6 being 10k words meant that i tried to add songs until the chapter playlist was somewhere around 30-40 mins long…….) of course, it doesn’t work for everyone because reading speeds are different, but each chapter playlist is timed for average reader speed (although i messed around with the songs for ch 5 after posting the fic and idk if that one still times well to average speed since i haven’t gone back and checked it, oh well) but uh……it was honestly a super ridiculous thing to try and do and most people don’t even listen to fic playlists (and especially while reading) but i had at least one person appreciate it (shout out to bre @magentamee) so that’s good enough for me!! 😅

oh and it also felt kinda obligatory to start the playlist off with the stranger things theme song…and after listening to several remixes of it, i found one that had an “end credits” sort of vibe and so that’s how i picked the final song :D

FUN FACT: the song “nightsky” by tracey chattaway was added sometime in september or october and i listened to it on repeat while writing so many times that it ended up being my top played song for the whole entire year according to my apple replay lol (it’s not my fault she put drugs in that song)

Am I interpreting this correctly, that you mean that Will’s feelings make Mike feel good and realise he is the leader, and that’s the reason they chose to give Will this storyline?

Well, immediately this makes me think that Mike, who thrives on approval and has low self esteem, would become rather attached to someone who shows him such love and makes him feel this way. It’s a classic psychological phenomenon. We often love people who love us, for better or worse. In this case, I would say better, because Will’s love for Mike is clearly being shown as something wholesome and wonderful. And choosing to be with someone who is good for you and makes you feel good… well, this is what love is. Mature love anyway, not the teen relationships explored in s3. It’s different from just attraction or infatuation, as I do believe Mike and El shared for each other in the early seasons.

I’ve seen you say that mike ‘loves el, he just does’ but whats the actual evidence in the story? Is it…

his actions? Mike’s protective and caring behaviour towards El all along has been lovely, but you could say it was exactly the same as his caring and protective behaviour towards Will both in s1 and s2, so why is one romantic and not the other?

Or is the evidence words? Is it Mike saying ‘I love you’ to El? Well, words are tricky things, and people often lie, even with the best intentions. S4 was about lies - look at Max, lying about Billy, but still we love her as she is human and her reasons make sense! And of course, Will lies about the painting, all with the best intentions.

But body language rarely lies, so what the writers have done, especially in s4, is to create two conflicting stories: one told through words, and one told through actions. This is the mystery of the byler/mileven love triangle and will be resolved in s5 when the story finishes.

You also mentioned love languages and the miscommunication between mileven being based in their love languages not matching. So considering that words aren't always truthful, that one of the themes of s4 in particular are lies and different perspectives of one story (also looking at you, Victor Creel and Henry!), then...

what have the writers done to show that Mike loves El and that his love is something she can feel and benefit from? Their love languages being unmatched is a very real possibility, and something that happens a lot in relationships. But unless they can overcome this obstacle by finding a way to express love for each other in the way the other needs, this relationship cannot work, because their love cannot work. What would mike and el need from each other for their love to work?

El would need to hear from mike that he loves her and she would need to believe it. Judging by the fact that she screwed up her face and started crying in powerless despair as soon as he said ‘I love you’, and the way she behaves afterward, with not even a reconciliation or conversation scene in sight, suggests she did not believe him and is in fact pretty peeved.

Mike would need El to make him feel adequate, important, special, like the paladin he is. But hang on, whose painting (and love) makes him feel that way? Will’s. As you said. What a strange choice by the writers if they wanted us to root for Mike and El's relationship. Why wouldn't we root for the people who make each other feel good to be together? Aka Mike and Will?

And this is without the unspoken frisson in the air between mike and will, the chemistry, the vibes, whatever you want to call it, because that stuff is super subjective - although personally, those things are what my gut instinct picks up on and what I find to be the best evidence for byler. It's too hard to explain or use as textual evidence, but to me it's the strongest thing. Why did I, a casual viewer with no bias or care either way, suddenly pick up on major, undeniable vibes between Mike and Will, happening at the very same time as a frontline plot about Mike and El's relationship being in decline?

The Duffers did something to make hundreds of thousands of people switch gears randomly to rooting for Mike and Will, and that stuff does not happen by chance, not in a TV show where everything is contrived and designed. Viewers are basically being constantly steered by the creator - that's what it means to be a viewer. You are being told, shown, the story they want you to see. That's storytelling. If you're lucky, they'll be clever about it, throw in mystery and ambiguity and make you feel so invested and excited that you are arguing about it on the internet over a year later... lol. Of course the duffers want people talking and arguing about their show! It keeps it alive! What they have done is so so clever.

In short, we can argue forever, but a lot of it comes down to your personal subjective life experience and how you interpret the world. We will never know until the story is resolved - as we shouldn't. How boring would that be, to have predicted everything? I'm sure there'll be plenty of unexpected things for both bylers and milevens.

I don't think it's the only reason they gived him this storyline, bc it's his own storyline- IT CAN'T BE ABOUT MIKE!! his feelings are not just about mike but it shows a lot about himself! his feelings for him are very complicated- let's focus on the fact that being gay in the 80s is something terrible, you can literally get bitten up or even killed for being a part of lgbt! he's scared of it, he actually says a lot about what this feelings are doing to him, and what makes the situation even worse? the fact that Will KNOWS that mike is not interested, that mike loves someone else, that mike will reject him. He's in so much pain, and the fact that mike love interest is his own sister probably makes it even worse. Will is a really sensitive person, i think he's scared that el could think that he wants to steal mike from her or sth. The feelings are not nice to him, he's hurting and i think that it's an important way to develop his character, to get him off someone's shadow, to make him independent and happy- bc even in s3 we can see how hurt he is that everyone moved on and he's still here, he needs his friends and he can't feel better about himself and his trauma without them by his side. We see him as a part of the group, the quiet kid but he's so much more!

personally as a mileven shipper i think that ruining byler would make no sense, bc why duffer brothers fixed them this season just to ruin them again ? no it's stupid, second thing, even if mike doesn't love Will that way he still loves him!!! Will is his best friend from kindergarten, he won't just kick him out of his life bc he's in love with him? and milevens who actually think like that are just stupid sorry guys 🤷🏾‍♀️ you can don't like a ship but let's remember that will is an important person in mikes life and he won't just get rid of him. In my opinion the duffer brothers didn't put the love for mike to will's character to make them together and give him a happy ending he deserves this way, it's actually too easy and it doesn't make sense since they are still working on mileven, they could just make will fall in love with someone new but no! i think that mike plays an important role here, he is the heart!! he was there for will when his life was falling apart even if he was depressed and needed help too. The fact is that mike is clueless rn, he doesn't know yet what Will feels to him bc Will was talking about himself from inside of the closet- he was talking using eleven. This helped mike to feel a bit better about himself bc in the van scene we can hear that he feels useless and weak in a relationship (the important thing is that he told el in a monologue "I'm scared that one day you'll realize you don't need me anymore" when in the van scene he told Will that he thinks she ALREADY knows it and is about to leave him.)

* I want to say something about the final scene from s4 here :)

look, eleven is in the front bc she already had her character development, she was feeling like she's the monster and that no one loves her for herself, now she's going to fight vecna, get a revenge, get a justice for max, and she's going to prove to herself that brenner WASN'T RIGHT about her when he said she's not ready (mike said to will that they had talked a bit about this!! so we know that at the end of s4 she's just isolating herself from everyone and she thinks that it's her fault what happened to max bc she wasn't ready!)

then we have will&mike together, i think their storyline is really important, bc mike feels that he's not enough and then will said to him that it's not true, that he's the heart! and my theory is that: mike is going to be the leader again (reference to s1) and won't be in el's shadow like he used to, he will be independent and El wil be independent too!! they'll see that they both are worthy something, and they will be something more than just a silly teenagers relationship! both of them.

And about Will, i think that after a coming out scene they'll talk a lot, heart to heart, because Will needs to be independent too! we can see how his happiness depends on Mike, we can see how he puts Mike's feelings in a main focus and does everything to help him fix his relationship bc he knows that mike won't be with him- see? he feels bad but at least he wants the person he loves to be happy if he can't, and Mike is going to change that! for sure! but not in the way you guys think, he won't be with him, he will show him how worthy he is on his own! because Will thinks he's a mistake, he literally said that he feels like a mistake, and I'm sure Mike will show him that there's nothing wrong with him, with the fact that he's gay, and even with the fact that he's in love with him, he will make him feel good about himself (that's exactly what will did to mike in a van scene, but not as himself but as eleven bc that was what mike needed) now it's mike turn to make will feel good about himself, but no with being in a relationship with him, Will needs to move on, to see that he's not a mistake, that his life doesn't depends on Mike's, that he can find happiness without mike, and eventually i think it's going to be one of the best characters development in this show. There's something way more important with making Will happy than putting him in a relationship, he needs to feel good about himself at first.

*also i would like to say that i would never ship mileven if things between them would have to stay the way they are now. I'm not shipping an unhealthy relationship just because "they both love each other 🥺🥺" no, i believe they'll fix the problems! and if they don't, then I won't ship them anymore- the thing i need the most are mike and el being happy, and i truly believe that they still can be happy together they just have to work on it.

And for example, pointing the fact that mike is my fav character: if he would be in love with eleven, but i would clearly see that eleven doesn't love him back, then i would never ship them together only bc my fav character loves her- this is stupid, I don't want my fav character to feel that he's not enough, that he doesn't deserve the love bc this specific person doesn't love him back, i would rather him to let go, to find happiness in himself and maybe in a future in someone new.

The only thing that doesn't make me feel that byler shippers are crazy is the fact that you guys think it's NOT one sided, well i find it weird bc for me it's pretty clear that it is 😭 ofc everyone can understand a character in a different way!! but there are people who ship byler but say "i ship byler but Will deserve better" and ummm so why do you ship it then?? if your fav character is hurting bc of the feeling he had for someone, if your fav character feels like a mistake bc of it then why do you ship him with that person?? i will never understand people like this i swear.

actually i feel like this is totally off the topic of your question 😭 but I can't make you understand my point of view on mileven or byler if you think that mike is in love with Will bc that just won't work 😭 and i think that there's nothing wrong with that:)

do you think one of the reasons byler is so appealing is because finn and noah are kind of unusual and atypical? they dont seem stereotypical to me in the way that many tv shows and film characters still are. we have noah/will who has become more sturdily built as he grows but still soft and sweet and hesitant as will, with an all-american-with-a-twist image as noah (handsome and tan, outgoing, but still awkward, a little dorky and clumsy, and also came out as gay irl). and then mike who was never the typical leader in a show like this, still soft but assertive, + with finn's unique facial features... and then finn himself who isnt the traditional alt-cool rockstar because he has such a unique creative expression, especially now that he's got this chill vibe going on, very down to earth in his clothes and interests and open about his anxiety and struggles.

i think cos ST has gotten so big, people forget that it truly is this little nerd outsider show at its heart, and i do think the actors still also represent that message in who they are too! maybe this is also why people struggle to agree on the top/bottom debate lol. it would be easier to stereotype if they were just two jock types or something, even though that would still be inaccurate. but they're so individual and i cant remember ever seeing or reading a pairing like this on screen or in literature tbh.

As someone who's been in fandoms for a very long time and in many toxic fandoms, I just want to remind me eveyone that fandoms should be fun. Talking about your favourite characters and ships should be fun.

Please create your own feed with people who make you feel comfortable and safe. Block people who you just don't vibe with, and especially those who make you feel uncomfortable. And when that happens, please do raise that concern.

Fandoms should be fun and when they aren't and when they are bringing you stress, then please distant yourself and put yourself first.

Also fandoms doesn't have to be about analysing and making all these amazing theories. It could be and that's an amazing thing. However fandom could also be posting and talking a song that reminds you of x character or just posting your favorite scene

I know that many are upset about losing popular byler people who have made lots of analyzing posts, and that's understandable. It sucks. However, Will is canonly in love with Mike. And even if he wasn't, it's okay to ship things based of chemistry or the scenes they've had and history. That's the fun with shipping.

Will is canonly in love with Mike. Mike, canonly, felt like he was losing him The GA is from S4 not only picking up on Will's feelings but also on the fact that something is going on with Mike too. That's how the fandom has grown.

Byler headcanons (but it's all in a daemon au)

Forms:

- Mike settles as an American crow. They're highly intelligent and group oriented animals (they have been shown to have really strong problem solving skills and are very good at relaying information to others). They're very common animals in America which feeds into Mike's whole wanting to be special and needed thing. They're also considered pests in most farms and are associated with bad luck and death imagery, which fits in with Mike's whole deal in season four as a social outcast. They're highly verbally expressive and make a very wide variety of noises, and have the intelligence and memory to hold grudges against specific people that have wronged them. Mike just reminds me of birds you guys.

- Will settles as a mountain lion which despite being very powerful predators are actually pretty shy and often run away from humans they encounter. They're still excellent hunters and are pretty damn powerful animals. Will is nice and soft spoken and conflict avoidant, but he is absolutely not weak. He's resilient as hell and I think his soul would take a shape to reflect that part of his personality, while still fitting his quiet conflict avoidant nature and tendency to keep to himself. Plus I just get cat vibes from him in general, something about his demeanor just screams cat to me which definitely influenced this choice.

Daemon description (but no names because I cannot name things):

- Mike's daemon is a girl and is definitely the more emotionally available of the two most of the time. Tries to get Mike to actually self reflect and deal with being repressed but doesn't really get anywhere. These two don't shut up and if Mike is alone there's a good chance the two of them are bickering somewhat. They don't have a particularly good relationship because Mike's tendencies to try to be someone else gets on his daemons nerves, but once he gets over that they do become much closer. She usually rides around on Mike's shoulder but will occasionally perch on the larger daemons in the party.

- Will has a boy daemon (In anything I write this has nothing to do with a characters sexuality, it is still seen as odd in universe thought) which definitely contributes to the amount of slurs thrown his way. He is a lot more blunt than Will typically is (Think how Will acts with El at rink-o-mania), and is usually much quicker to create boundaries and express displeasure than Will. Despite this he doesn't talk all that much and has a very soft voice. Spends most of his time curled up next to or under whatever Will is sitting on, but does let Will pet him when upset. Neither one of them is thrilled about how big he settles but since they can't do anything about it they just sort of deal with it.

When do they settle?:

- I'm such a sucker for the idea Mike's daemon settles after his Dawson Creek oh shit I'm gay hug with his mom at the end of season three. He doesn't actually notice she isn't going to change anymore until that night and he's not super happy about it. They don't talk much for the first few months after that.

- Will is a bit more complicated I feel like he could either settle after being trapped in the upside down, right after the Byers move, or he settles after the conversation in the pizza parlor between Will and Johnathan. Either way there's an adjustment period for the both of them since they're both used to him taking much smaller forms.

How do their daemons act with each other?:

- When they were kids Will's daemon took small forms and Mike's took larger more protective forms, so Mike's daemon spends a lot of time acting as a shield between Will's daemon and the outside world. When alone the two daemons would usually curl up next to each other and just sit in comfortable silence. Since Mike's daemon winds up being way smaller than Will's she's still tries to be the intimidating one (which usually doesn't work because crows aren't that scary to most people) but she's still the loud one. Will's daemon is mostly just content to let her do her own thing, and the two of them are much more hesitant to show affection even when nobody else is around after settling. Once Will and Mike get together Mike's daemon gets in the habit of perching on the head or back of Will's daemon and coos or purrs at him. Will's daemon also purrs back at her. They talk more frequently while Mike and Will are spending time with each other, but still like to just bask in each other's company without needing to say much.

I am working on choosing daemons for all of the main cast but I only have like five for sure assignments including these two as of now so I just wanted to post my thoughts on these two for the time being. Feel free to leave any ideas in the replies I love talking about things like this.
