Its just now occurring to me like, 15 years too late, but OG Bakugan really had an amazing dynamic set up in the form of "Nicest girl on the show who is partnered with the bloodthirsty murder hydra dragon" only to never fucking do anything with it.
#alice deserved better in hindsight my god#I can't believe they've rebooted Bakugan TWICE and didn't bring her back either time#she had it all#dark alternate personality#direct connection to the original plot#hell she even had an incredibly odd relationship with gender#but instead they were incredibly insistent on following the trio of shonen protag cool guy and smart guy#no shade on the original bakugan trio but they definitely fumbled with Alice/Masquerade as a character after the first season#bakugan battle brawlers#btw this only came to mind because of that one patreon project thats making a game that actually plays like the one in the first show#greatest disappointment of childhood was finding out the actual game didn't play like that#alice gehabich

All my life I've been told by all kinds of people that they can never really tell what I'm feeling or what's going through my mind because apparently I'm always just hiding everything behind a smile so that I've become rather unreadable. And then he just. Takes one look at me and goes 'Yeah. I know that face, oh here we go again, she's about to unleash her thoughts. She's gonna bash that theory I just showed her so hard. Where's my popcorn?' I hadn't even said anything yet and he was already laughing.
And to be honest. It's quite nice to be known, actually.
#i only went to his office to ask if he wants to join me for lunch he didn't have time and yet i still somehow ended up staying for 1.5 hours#'thanks for the conversation' he said when i left. 'and thanks for keeping me from my work'#as if HE hadn't kept me from lunch when he kept our conversation going on and on with his 'wait i still wanted to show you this'#talking to him always feels like wellness for my brain somehow. like. we're different people but we think the same way.#i don't have to translate my thoughts to be understood he already gets my point before i've even finished my train of thought#every time work tires me out so much that it feels like i can't think straight anymore then i talk to him and suddenly my brain works again#and i like how he calls me out on my nonsense when i lose myself in a contradiction or don't say what i want to say or say what i don't mea#and he lets me go on extensive rants about statistics despite not knowing anything about it and doesn't even complain#he just always says 'i'll pretend i know what that means' and says i should learn it well so he can ask me for my help with it later#recently he came to me right after teaching saying 'you won't believe how much i just messed up. let me show you how i failed'#and then proceeded to recreate the entire situation and his thought process at that moment and i just#there is a very big word running around in my mind that i dare not speak of but maybe one day#i don't even know if he even sees me as much as a friend maybe i'm just some co-worker he likes talking to occasionally you know#what does it mean what does it all mean#ramblings

one of my most favorite pet peeves is when someone talks about an old edgy game and is like "its a shame because you couldn't just make that nowdays it would NEVER have been allowed its a shame how we've fallen" but like you get to look at them in comparison to things we have now that are actively even more grusome than ever.
People say manhunt couldn't be released today because its too brutal but then the last of us has some extra brutal executions too, and don't even get me started on how the MK series is nowadays.
"they would have to censor the story so heavily today so im glad [blank] came out years ago" they say, as some weren't already censored to tone it down- a perfect example of that is always going to be Twisted Metal Black where they changed up Raven's, Dollface's, Agent Stone's, Preacher's, John Doe's story to simmer them all down and lighten the blow, expunging certain levels ambient sounds because the implications of domestic violence, and the changing of No-face's surgical cutscene to make it not as explicitly nasty and meanwhile modern games have been actively stepping it up to be even worse.
"Games are just too prudish nowdays we couldnt even get another ghostly desires LOL" and meanwhile the front page to steam is literally littered with hentai games. that do not hide the lewd and raunchy screenshots. sometimes its a freshly creampied pussy in your face. yeah that. Im sorry but there's so much god damn porn games that are available to buy and some of it is mainstream even (Huniepop for instance).
Back in the day NightTrap was rated as an Adult game. Now? It's T for teen because how tame it kinda is. We're not as prudish or pearlclutchy on literally any of these points as we used to be and thank fucking god for that- but literally take off the nostolgia goggles cause its fuckin blinding you sweetie
#i remember the panic that came out about games like doom and how violent they were#so many hackles were raised and it was so scandalous#the newest ones are even more so and there's hardly a peep#gta was certainly contreversial back in its day but especially 3 set off shit like you would not believe but 5 actively pushes way past it#and there's less about it now- ffs the hot coffee made it back into the remasters by accident#and despite knowing that there was even less of a hubub this time of round for San andreas than back then#literally so few care about that now#but even CoD is getting more graphic than it and so many other games are too#gta just doesnt have its oomph anymore#and i wanna say that's a good thing because there's more artistic freedom with that#but we can't just be so deluded as to pretend we've not gotten heavier about all of this#because we have and it really shows#none of the old contreversial series seem near as bad now when half of everything is rivaling it#ballad of gay tony showed dick and everyone was so up in arms about it#in numbers we couldnt even see for Outlast Whistleblower for seeing a man's dick chopped off and him split open to make a birthing statue#and that is so fucking wild??

When Duke returned to the Top Station, he found Stanley loafing outside of the sheds.
"What's this I hear about you rough-riding down the Mountain Road?" the old engine spluttered.
"Look Gramps," Stanley drawled, "the train arrived, didn't it? I'm afraid I can't see what all the fuss is about."
"The fuss is that we can't afford to damage our reputation. Everywhere you go, trouble's not far behind. People are getting anxious."
Stanley eyed Duke, the embers in his cigar flickering brightly.
"What people?"
"What people? The people on our line, for starters. Manager's already got his hands full at the Bridge Station - he doesn't need you damaging goods on top of that."
"Look Gramps, I don't even know what you're talking about, but I assure you it was not my fault." Duke glared at the American Engine, frustration simmering in her eyes. He took a deep breath, and sighed.
"Fine. But I want no more mischief. You roll so much as a sleeper out of line, you'll never hear the end of it."
Stanley smirked, and wheeshed a puff of smoke at Duke as he puffed off. Duke huffed under his breath, muttering something about 'damn Yankees'.
"He'll come around, Dukey." coughed a weary voice. The Duke looked up, and spotted a familiar, worn face peeking out from behind the shed.
"He's jinxed." Duke sighed. "You know it, and so do I."
"It's unfortunate," the generator said, "but nothing new."
"Cheaply made, cheaply built, and if he doesn't get check himself, he'll be cheaply scrapped before long."
"Which is why you ought to hold out for him, Dukey. Fresh metal like him, straight out of War Service, he don't know scrap about civilian life. He needs someone to be there for him, not push him away."
"And of course it's left to me to do that. Not Bertram or Frederick or-"
"Hey, do you know who you are? For Pete's sake, you're The Duke for crying out loud! You're The Engine for the job. If anyone can show him the ropes to make it around here, it's you."
"Even after all my own failings? Even after I failed you?"
Smudger coughed out a chuckle. "You can take him, Dukey. Wouldn't be saying it if I didn't believe in it."
