I found an article a month or two ago (this was in my drafts, oops) about Diablo Cody’s comments about the PPG live action show… so here are my comments about some of her comments.

Okay, the part about making them tackle Gen Z problems is probably the only thing here that makes me cringe a bit. I hate when writers try to make characters relatable by saying whatever ageist buzzword’s popular at the time and not just, y’know, make something that could be relatable for anyone who was whatever age at whatever time (but I guess you gotta say those kinds of things to sell the show to the not-so-clued-in actually ageist executives, I dunno).

…but like I did when I read Dove’s comments about the show, yeah, I mean, I agree! I like weird! Weird is good! The script had issues (to put it, uh, VERY lightly) but I was happy that there were some attempts to make it different. And she’s right: it IS fun to write the girls at different ages. Thousands of fanfic writers would agree! However, the problem is that, when you’re making an actual television show, you can’t just do whatever you want or pepper in a bunch of sex jokes or whatever the hell people in Hollywood assume is “normal” behavior for people to have. 🙃 You should probably watch the show more than once (preferably, damage your brain with repeat viewings like I have, highly recommend 👍) and thoughtfully consider how the characters would act, in a way that multiple generations could relate to since it was a show originally meant for people of all ages. And again, so many things set the girls apart from other superheroes. Explore those things! I think a live action adaptation like this would rule, but I think there are a lot of little footnotes attached to that.

This isn’t Johnny discourse but it is kind of discourse about the discourse about him balding (which he isn’t).

What would it matter if he took off his hat and he was a shining beacon?? The dude canonically fucks (well not canon-canon but I feel like there’s implications of fucks-ing)!! At the most, he would be a Pitbull reference and that would be cool because good for Daisuke. Listen to Timber by Ke$ha (feat. Pitbull).

It kind of felt like they were making jokes at the expense of people loosing hair. It’s like that thing where you shouldn’t make fun of people for ‘X’ because then your friends who ‘X’ will know you think that about them.

Anyway, Johnny totally fucks. There's no way a man that toned, running around shirtless all of the time, with that slight yeehaw accent, couldn't find someone DTF with the tiniest bit of effort. He's absolutely gettin it rofl He could still get it if he was bald too, or receding.

I've complained about it on here a bit already, but yeah I don't think people making fun of Johnny because they think he's losing hair realize that a lot of people in real life are going to lose their hair as they age, and their jokes at Johnny are also jokes at these people. It's not even just an issue cis men can have either, everyone's hair thins with age, some just more (and sooner) than others. To make fun of someone, fictional or otherwise, for losing their hair is digging a trench to fill with future self loathing at one's own hair loss. And hair loss in >2023 isn't even that bad anymore!! There are so many ways to manage and style it now.

All this discourse over the new wonka movie is just reminding me of how much I hate the 2005 Charlie and the Chocolate factory. Idk why it's such an unpopular opinion to feel that Johnny Depp's willy wonka was just...so bad. Like I cannot put it into words but it was so off. Idc if the rest of the movie was more accurate to the book than the 1971 version, depp's wonka was just...wrong

Okay Rand definitely is an ass to Egwene a lot lol, I can understand why I disliked their scenes together so much when I first read teotw. But I do understand where he's coming from on a reread - the specific scene where he gets annoyed at Egwene when she stops unbraiding her hair is very interesting because it's only been 2/3 days since they left the Two Rivers and Rand has been Suffering and agonizing over the fact that Tam might not possibly be his real dad. So it definitely hits a soft spot when he realizes that Egwene is so ready to shed the parts of her that come from the Two Rivers because at that moment all Rand wants to do is hold onto those parts of him even more tightly.

Post Eurovision depression means I'll be going down the rabbit hole of my favourite esc 2023 contestants(Romania, Portugal and Finland). As well as listening to love love peace peace to have some diversity.

see now I’m getting sad because I’m picturing Baby Drag Queen Atticus not knowing how to do makeup, so he rolls up to Crowler’s office with mascara and lipstick he stole from Alexis. and it’s just. this fourteen-year-old kid who is friends with everyone and is always smiling infectiously, but right now he’s close to tears, the mascara he tried to put on is clumping, there’s too much blush on his face, and the lipstick is all over his upper lip.

Crowler sees him come in and is like “Mr. Rhodes, what do you want?” in snippy Crowler fashion.

For the first time in his life, Atticus is actively stuttering as he tries to explain that he doesn’t need any help in class, but Professor Crowler’s makeup is always so flawless and the lipstick application is perfect and would he be willing to give Atticus any tips?

Crowler just melts a little on the inside and tells Atticus to sit down. He does Atticus’s makeup, gently explaining how each product works along the way so Atticus can do it himself later. When he’s done, he hands Atticus a mirror and Atticus just bursts into tears again, thanking Crowler and just saying, “I look so beautiful, thank you,” over and over again. There’s an unspoken agreement that this will not leave this room, but the boy’s birthday is coming up and Crowler has a few extra unopened products he got on sale last summer that are just going to waste…

So it’s no wonder Crowler never let himself get attached to a student after this, because a week later, Atticus was gone.

You guys don't know how hard im gonna cry when The Owl House ends. Even though I wasn't there from the start (and admittedly I'm too hyperfixated on two characters specifically lmao), it's become important to me and to see it end? Man.

It feels like yesterday when it first aired, Luz and Willow Meeting, First signs of Lumity (Grom Night...), Hexsquad getting into goofy shenanigans, dear lord we didn't even know how Belos Looked like!!!!
