all the while society conflates "being an adult" with "having a proper job" and "having money to make arbitrary Adult Purchases" disabled people who can't work - or can only work part time or can only do entry level baby jobs - will never be 'allowed' to be adults

you can say "being an adult is looking after yourself you don't have to have a job!!!" all you want but most people who say that will still assume anybody who doesn't either can't or won't 'look after themselves' actually. and every 'marker' of 'adulthood' that's observable and thus actually counts or whatever loops back around to... having a job and 'contributing' something

Tumblypoos with experience renting in the U S of A: please help. I have video footage of a mouse in my house, we just moved in 3 weeks ago, and they said they deep clean every apartment but it doesn't really seem like they did. They said to submit a maintenance request when I showed them potential mouse piss and poo, but now I have a video of Actual Mouse. What should I do? A maintenance request seems kinda relaxed. They seem willing to help, but I don't wanna roll over and say 'Yeah, do it on your time, etc etc etc.'

Has anyone taken up the Glitch/bug/error mantle in my (mostly) absence? Was that niche filled in the 'CU since I didn't really get involved? Let me see my son/daughter, I need to pay you child support, kiddo. Let's go play catch.

Basically the problem is that the lady I'm staying with wants her house back; but while I was moved out of my parents house, they had a flooring disaster and now my room is full of displaced furniture. Despite looking hard (which you know i have been) for over a month, every door has been consistently slammed in my face. I have 3 weeks to go somewhere with all of my stuff. Please pray I find the right situation.

The weather has been gorgeous today and I played tennis and I roasted a whole head of cauliflower and I sat in a pool of sunlight while I drank a delicious drink out of my new cup and it was perfect. I'm so happy to be back in love with this city and this life.

the absolute lack of awareness and consideration some people have continues to astound me. (personal life rant under the cut)

i live in an apartment complex with a neighbor across the breezeway who regularly plays music so loud i can make out THE WORDS in my own living room

and a downstairs neighbor with a sound system up against the wall so when they watch a movie it vibrates our floors despite us repeatedly going down to ask them to do something about it, be it adjust the bass or move the sound system or just simply turn it down a little (and every time they’re snippy with us about it)

and people who like to gather at the pool right across from our building and play loud music until past midnight ON WEEKNIGHTS

i’m all for people having fun in their homes and enjoying life and music and parties and whatever. but also it takes just a minute to consider that there are other people existing around you and be considerate of them

one of our roommates: so uh i took a full time better paying job in my hometown so i'll be moving out in march, do you think we could discuss paying less for rent or utilities bc i won't be here

David grabbed the to-go cup and rushed outside. He’d wanted to be early to his apartment tour, but the bus had gotten stuck in traffic, and then he’d walked the wrong way, and then…

David tried to breathe as he walked to the apartment. While he waited for someone to answer the door, he looked at his cup and realized the barista had written his number on it. He snorted; the barista had been cute, but David didn’t think he was the kind of person who could get a stranger’s number like that.

“My roommate should be back in a couple minutes,” Tony said when he’d finished showing David around. “If you want to wait.”

David nodded and sat awkwardly on the couch. Sure enough, the door opened and someone came crashing in.

“So you’re the new roommate,” the newcomer said. “You’re–oh, fuck.”

Of all the people David had been expecting as potential roommates, the barista who’d just given him his number had been pretty low on the list.

“Hi,” David said slowly.

I’m also realizing the reason my kitties are so unsettled and lashing out more often is partially my fault. It is definitely because of the new guy and the goddamn dog that got moved in (esp cuz one of my cats has past trauma with dogs and when I got her it was with the assumption she would never have to live with dogs again) but it’s also because I’m not giving them as much attention. I used to be out in the living room/kitchen with them for at least 4-5 hours after work every day, petting them, playing with them, letting them sit next to me on the couch cuz neither were big on lap cuddles. And now because I hate being in the main apartment anymore I never do that…. They’re upset because I’m not giving them as much attention anymore and they don’t know why, I feel so bad but also idk what to doooo 😭😭😭
