As you’ve noticed I haven’t been very active like 24/7 on Tumblr as I usually am, and there really isn’t much to it except I’m feeling the burnout.

Like, burnout HIT me like an actual truck going 300 miles an hour-

I’ve been trying to get myself to draw but when I do I end up just sitting there and starring..

(It took me an entire day yesterday to just do an art trade with someone. It was fun while doing it! But YIKES did I procrastinate-)

Just in general I might take this and half of the other week to try and get my art energy back up, cuz right now it’s real low, and I don’t wanna work on requests and end up making them look like shit-..

so this only exists in my head because a) I'm morbidly curious and have a fascination with the psychology of messed up relationships and b) I am a masochist.

I am just constantly thinking about how the fuck We Got Here when it comes to To Partake. Like how do things get to a point where it's this fucked up and messy and tangly and Bad?

and of course there are bits and snatches that are mixed in to Partake -- like little glimpses into the backstory of Elrond and Gil's situationship, but I want to know more specifically how we got to where we are now.

We know that Elrond started pining after Gil sometime in the late first age when he was roughly in between the age of fifty and seventy. Which...for a Peredhel is a perfectly acceptable age to be sexual (Elwing and Dior had kids and were married by 30). But from an Elvish perspective (i,e. Gil's) that's a baby.

Literally he does not think about anyone else. This is a somewhat unhealthy obsession already. There's a fealty-kink wrapped up in here somehow that's all messily combined with the fact that Gil is currently the only adult who is really present in Elrond's life (if we're going with ROP's timeline Galadriel seems to fuck off to hunt Sauron shortly after Morgoth's imprisonment in the void, and you know...Earendil is busy Earendiling)

So to start I don't think Gil even really saw anything with Elrond as being on the table until sometime in the very early second age, after he appoints Elrond as herald. It's unclear when this happened -- I couldn't find a date for it. But I presume it to be sometime after Lindon is founded and Mithlond constructed and certainly after Elros sailed for Numenor (Elrond would have been emotionally vulnerable and attached to Gil-Galad even more -- and in my head Elros would not have approved of anything going on between Elrond and Gil-Galad so that's very off limits until he's gone)

But--- with Elros gone indefinitely, yeah Elrond gets more attached to Gil.

They're still not sexual yet though.

Elrond is taking regular trips to Numenor etc.

So I generally imagine that things really Began between the two of them sometime shortly after SA 432, when Elrond is around 500 years old. He's "mature" at this point in Elvish terms, and Elros has just died -- so, unhinged and probably at one of his lowest points.

SEX CW: I have a VERY firm idea in my head which I was planning to make a oneshot of. But Elrond at this point does get Very Horny about Gil and starts masturbating about it sometime around here. Gil catches him and that's how....uhhhh things start.

Because OBVIOUSLY (Gil brain here) he is into Gil and THEREFORE this is a PERFECTLY NORMAL and FINE thing to do!

Plus he is OF. AGE.

Nevermind the fact that Elrond is incredibly unstable and vulnerable and depressed & still extremely young, completely inexperienced, and there's some really fucky power dynamics -- all of which affect his ability to consent properly to ANYTHING.

So that's how it starts. They just start having sex. I think nobody really knows about it at this point.

(we start with mostly just Gil on the receiving end of some oral sex that Elrond is getting rapidly better at)

Gil's the one to broach anything more than that and Elrond is down for anything as long as Gil is happy.

rumors do start circulating at this point but absolutely nobody is keen to confront them about it.

I feel like there's potential here for Galadriel to catch wind of things, directly ask, and for Elrond to deny absolutely everything.

If she asked Gil there's no way that he'd admit that anything is going on either because she makes him fear for his life haha.

Elrond has been actively suppressing links to Melian at this point because it freaks out most Elves -- and because Gil doesn't like it.

At some point Gil broaches-- and by broaches what I really mean here is tries (he doesn't ASK!!) an osanwe link. Likely either during or just after sex.

Elrond does not know any better and his brain is full of dopamine and he thinks this is AWESOME. The king wants to be EVEN MORE INTIMATE

boom osanwe link. Far more of an osanwe link than they ever should have had.

boom immediate dissonance which is painful for Gil and so he assumes it is painful for Elrond

Elrond has not had enough osanwe experience to know this is pretty insular to the specific way his and Gil's Themes don't mesh.

"Let me fix it ok?" "Oh god please fix it"

Also there's the undertone here of Gil doesn't like it and Elrond feeling the need to manage his emotions and divest himself of anything displeasing even if that's his fucking Theme.

Hence the theme fuckery begins.

And things really really really start to devolve with their relationship.

Like I imagine in the beginning Gil was pretty cautious and careful -- not in a lovey dovey way but he's not wholly inconsiderate and it's within his Partake characterization that he doesn't like to hurt his partner unless it's in a fun kinky way. He also does not get off on someone being scared. That's an ick for him. So initially he would be careful.

But Elrond starts getting really good at masking things and figuring out that Gil likes to be rough.

And of course, anything for Gil.

Do you see where we're going.

Well and it's compounded by the fact that Elrond does actually like it, too. It just scares him. So he as a lot of really confusing feelings going on that he doesn't know how to handle and there's also a lot of shame wrapped up in it too

And obviously Gil is not um. Guiding him through this in the way that a more experienced partner who is sometimes building scenes and domming should.

And again -- there's that messy thing of "I need to please you in absolutely every way possible and also clearly my differences are Bad, and therefore I must mask all of them as best I can and keep up with my work demands because being useful is better than being loved."

(Which is a lesson he learned from literally everyone, even Elros in the end. It is not a lesson that Elros meant to teach him. But Elros loved him. And then he left.)

Anyway that's as far as I've gotten. The beginning is much more specific and it gets more nebulous as we get closer to the Partake timeline, but it's very easy for me to see the trajectory of their relationship, and that's really what I want to explore.

OHHHH also the undertone of codependency because Elrond and Gil are both fundamentally isolated and find solace in each other. And Gil isolates Elrond further to ensure that He Will Not Be Left. Because Gil is afraid of being inadequate and has literally no one else except like, Cirdan, who cares for him so deeply. (I mean, he would. If he wasn't an asshole. But you get where I am going with this.)

Yeah. Sorry.

There is no happy ending to this fic it is just a dissection of how we get from point A to point B. The happy ending would be Partake alkdhg.

I'll never be able to take the theory that Vincent is Sephiroth's real father seriously cuz I cannot stress enough how important I think it is to the plot that Vincent wanted to fuck Lucrecia and did not get to.

I love them so much...I want them to be genuine pals. I want Seven to find Tuvok after he gets literally assimilated fully by the borg and for them to actually talk about that after some resistance ("I'm fine. I do not require your assistance") <- An inverse of Tuvok pushing Seven to talk after 'Tsunkatse'. I wonder about loneliness and the borg and vulcan bonds and why Tuvok was the one out of him Janeway & B'Elanna who was assimilated. I want to know about the recovery process following that. I want it to become another thing they can understand about one another like the long silences and the eyebrow raising about silly Human things and the isolation. The Borg are a terrible destructive force but when you're within it it's ALL, it's like nothing else. I want them to spend so many evenings in silence together. With Tuvok, Seven doesn't have to think about 'Being Human' and maybe Tuvok can relax with Seven too - "Commander Tuvok & I" that kinship, stated resolutely. "Commander Tuvok & I don't require..." I want them to not talk to each other for years after Voyager and then Seven just appears where Tuvok is and he's like "Oh, this is unexpected. I am pleased to see you." and they're able to fall back into their old pleasant silences and go on walks together and maybe they go for a hike on another planet and while they're camping out they talk more about stuff they wouldn't if they were anywhere more familiar and at night maybe they talk about stuff they wouldn't if it were day. I want them to talk about their time on Voyager and how it's affected them and is still affecting them and for them to poke fun at silly Human things (some of which Seven understands more now like being in love and having fun and looking at a sunset) I want Seven to talk about how much Starfleet has hurt her and Janeway has hurt her even though she wasn't trying to and how she doesn't know exactly how to feel about her time on Voyager. It was the start of her life, the best years and the most confusing and the most horrific and stifling and freeing and [and and and] Tuvok talks about how lonely it was in the stilted way he does - half describing a flower and he'll never denounce the captain the same way the captain will never denounce Starfleet, the closest he'll ever get is that it was a difficult time - that he doesn't agree with every decision but he isn't Human, he can't say for sure what was right or wrong and Seven has to accept that that's all he'll do (it's difficult, she wants to push him but she knows it's useless) and I want them to find that they still can relax around each other despite it all - that they're different but that's at least the same. great news! it doesn't matter. I'm not suggesting he's a good bassist either, because I've never really seen anything that really supports that idea. but he's not in the band to be the world's best bass player. it's a means to an end. he's a fantastic lyricist, he's a good frontman, and the three other members of fob wouldn't want to be in the band without him. Ok ok ok I'm not Tryna start discourse but bluestars prophecy was my first ever warriors book and bluestar will always be my favourite so I'm gonna make some counterpoints to you about her being a Smajor character

bluestar has always been led by an intense loyalty and dedication to those she loves and cares for - this includes her mum, her sister, her clan, eventually Firepaw when he joins the clan, and she has a VERY strong moral compass when it comes to doing the right thing - when she sees thistleclaw teaching tigerpaw to hurt a then baby scourge she very much discourages it and is against it

Afaik scott is Not like that, he doesn't have an emotional or love-driven moral code, he does things because they're smart decisions in the long term or because he wants to. Granted I havent seen a ton of his stuff but I have seen his limited life and 3rd life perspectives and he is very much a singular team player there, there to look after himself and well if people align with him that's great he's got allies (jimmy and Martyn) but he won't go out of his way to care for them

Bluestars defiance of starclan in the first series is BECAUSE she gave herself to them and what the warrior code demanded so much - yes she broke clan rules by having kids with crookedstar but she did everything in her power to make sure they'd have a happy life and felt terrible that thrushpelt was willing to say they were his to save her reputation. She didn't do it out of a selfish want, she only ever wanted to help her clan and those she loved, and her becoming clan leader is emblematic of that want. When she rejects starclan so wholeheartedly in the first series it's because THINGS KEEP GOING WRONG WHEN SHES TRIED SO HARD TO STOP THEM FROM DOING THAT - starclan has never cared about the sacrifices she made to keep her loved ones and clan safe, she lost her mother, her sister, her kits, her mate, literally everything, and things STILL KEEP GETTING WORSE. it's not a demand that she deserves to have everything good, it's a cry for help that shouldn't something go right after she's tried so hard???

C!Scott isn't like that. He puts himself above others and inherently believes he will get the best if he just plays his cards right, and he is good at it, he's very competent at lasting a long time in life series and getting what he wants - the ruthlessness of gem driven by desperation kills him in secret life, Martyn's complete fucking about face kills him in limited life, and I'm pretty sure it's etho who gets him out in 3rd life by luck. He doesn't plan to look after the ones he cares about, because he cares about himself first and foremost. Yeah you can argue when he doesn't get what he wants he gets annoyed, but his is less of a 'why don't I get this don't I deserve it' and more of a 'oh fuck this didn't work. Ok new plan double down on getting what I want by appeasing to people cos they're easy to read and therefore account for'

I don't doubt Scott would make a bluestar adjacent character if he made a warrior cats oc BUT his character would honestly be closer to darktail or ashfur than bluestar and that's that on that.

OKAY 1. this is fucking awesome thank you 2. i am going to do something new and exciting (advocate for scott instead of beating him to death with sticks) because unfortunately this bluestar info has only made me believe she is a smajor character even more.

As a general note when I talk about smajor characters as a collective here I’m referring to characters more in the realm of esmp/traffic/rats/pirates/etc, less vampire scott or necromancer scott who are intended to be villainous.

Scott characters tend to operate under a “If I am not a Good Person I may as well die” rule, and consequently abide by a strict moral code to keep themselves feeling clean. For instance: traffic Scott will never go back on his word, he will avoid dishonesty, and he won’t take from others unless he is sure that he can repay them. He will never betray his seasonal primary ally (even when they betray him first), and will often give people things just because they asked him nicely. He stakes a lot of his own identity on this, because it is through being a “good person” that he justifies his superiority (and, by extension, his own existence); in his mind he deserves the best and *is* the best because he is such a good person. When things don’t go his way, he thinks he doesn’t deserve it because he has been nothing but good, so he tries to place a reason. He often assumes that somebody must “have a vendetta” against him, even if this somebody is the world (see: him asking if limlife episode 1 boogeyman is some kind of joke played on him for not giving in to the boogey curse in Last Life.) which is very Bluestar to me, convinced that her misfortunes are a divine punishment.

This is all to say that Scott does have a strict moral code and deep sense of loyalty. Being a “good person” and devoted partner in the ways he understands it are so ingrained into what he is that I think he definitely has the capacity to be a Bluestar if he were raised being taught clan values, even if his internal systems are often built around never letting gross emotions be fully felt rather than what those emotions compel him to do.

The next To Partake chapter is getting veryyyyy close now to being finished.

Here is a bit from that disastrous Ereinion POV, which is just that scene from ch40 but from his perspective.

At some point in the midst of him debating with himself, Elrond has come to stand at the edge of the space – just by the screen. Ereinion heard him walk over. What on earth is he waiting for? Ereinion wonders crossly. Elrond’s eyes feel like needles lanced into the back of his skull. He is probably trying to get some attention, and perhaps he deserves it after all that had happened last night, but the way he is waiting for it is irritating. Like a little lapdog. Ereinion can’t remember if it is his own fault for rewarding that sort of behavior or if it is something new Celebrimbor has instilled in him.

Most of the next Boundless Sky chapter is not in a state fit for human consumption, but here is a bit of Thal.

It didn’t make any sense. Nothing made any sense anymore. She’d been the one to warn him not to trust any of them. She’d gotten more and more defensive of Lord Elrond over the past few months, and of everyone really, and he hated it. And sure, they had been kind. But it was a game. He had thought she was smart enough to know that. He’d keep playing it as long as he had to if it meant he was safe, but eventually they’d all get bored of it. Get bored of him. And then they would make up a new game, with new rules, and that never meant anything good.  He yanked a leaf off one of the bushes as he passed it and squeezed it in his palm until his knuckles blazed white. 

Lots of very internal things going on in both fics rn, and nothing terribly good, I must admit. 😅

Hey I'm glad after all you been through you are still able to enjoy this game, it sucks that McPig and a few others on the team are human garbage but I am not shocked; shit like this happens and while people say "but it was 2018!!! HE SHOULD HAVE KNOWN BETTER!!!" that doesn't stop racism & transphobia from existing; it takes honestly growing as a person and being able TO grow, even if McPig & others apologize; we will treat him how we do Scott. No trust till his actions speak louder.

Agreed! And no forgiveness until he actually apologizes and makes the steps to change the problems with the game and his attitude. I already think he's improved on some aspects such as the transphobia, what with LGBT ppl being on the playtester team last I checked. It's small but it shows signs that he can change from what he's been like
