oh!! i wanna know more about kanata in ur ryusei precure au

so basically ! kanata (until about halfway thru the story) was a figure called 'the mermaid' (or yaobikuni) he was the figurehead of the shinkai cult similarly to canon but the difference was he became the mermaid in a form similar to becoming a cure .. ? its a magical transformation basically . possibly with a corrupted ranger star (the transformation device) i think hmm . whatever it is, as the mermaid, he can genuinely grant wishes on his own . he first became the mermaid around age... 6 ? and then on continued until current time (17, third year)

souma knew kanata since a young age because souma was originally tasked to help find cures except he met the shinkai cult + their 'partners' (the main villains .. i need to name em) thats why kanata has the corrupted ranger star .. yeah

kanata met madara when they were both about .. 10 ? and were friends for around a year before madara was found out by the cult and driven away. besides that kanata was an incredibly lonely child which affected him similarly to canon. .. basically eventually when he reached 15 he got to go to high school (yumenosaki is just a normal academy in this au for Reasons the councils and committees and clubs and etc r the same but theyre not idols)

eventually chiaki finds out about kanata being the mermaid and they have a Moment . and then a little later along the line chiaki finally gets through to kanata and kanata becomes a cure . also falls a bit in love with chiaki but this is not discussed much between them

ah! you see the thing is, I’ve only ever finished star twinkle hehe. but i have seen a few episodes of tropical rouge and the 2020 miracle leap movie too! im also planning to watch the new all stars F movie when i can!! [hopefully soon ahh]. So yeah I don’t have much to say about any other season

but!! I have a lot to say abt star twinkle! like a lot. I watched star twinkle because I saw Yuni's wiki page, got interested, and proceeded to stay up till 4am watching it all. So yeah! I really enjoyed it, I don’t even know where to start

yuni is my favorite character if it wasnt obvious lol, she is literally like. the perfect character from personality to design. shes an antagonist aligned shapeshifting phantom thief catgirl with a blue/yellow/rainbow color scheme who struggles with self perception and relationships in general and gets found-familied by the narrative [whether she likes it or not]. [[this sentence is meant to all be said in one continuous breath]] TLDR she could not be any more perfect, she scores a 10/10 for character of all time. i could say a lot abt yuni!! but ill hold myself back for now since i feel that could be a whole essay of its own. hikaru is also a character that's growing on me a lot. im not sure how to put it into words, but! shes really really interesting to me, which surprised me since i dont typically lean towards her character type. maybe i can find the words to talk abt her one day, bc i see way too much slander directed at her, she does not deserve all that

ok but star twinkle itself! i adore its themes of friendship, forgiveness, and learning what it means to grow up and grow apart. typical for a show of its demographic. what really got me was how it expanded on all of that, it introduced the concept of figuring out your place in the world, and learning how to continue living happily even if the people you care about most aren't here with you. it kinda hit really close to home for me. its so obvious how much the whole cast cares for each other, and i could see them building up to a finale where they would all have to say goodbye to each other forever. i wasnt sure if theyd actually commit all the way but!! they sure did!!!! watching them get separated at the end like that really hurt!!! like a lot!!!!!! im such a baby when it comes to cast separations but. man. star twinkle did it really well.

also also its ost is really really good??! this is aside from the intro and outro themes, im focusing on the instrumental backing tracks that play throughout the episodes. i was surprised to find them on youtube, and found myself blown away by how emotional they were. its got such a strong central motif that plays throughout the tracks, and obliterates you at the end when it shows back up to deliver an extremely emotional farewell song. i have cried several time listening to it, i dont think any ost has ever done that to me [aside from a few select songs from various medias. and undertale lol]. but yeah. listen to the star twinkle ost if you havent it will make you feel things.

i could also add that the movie kills me every time. watch the star twinkle movie if ur at all interested in anything ive said. its a good starting point if u want to see some action and get the vibe of the characters

on the topic of movies, final little note! im really interested in the new all stars F movie and prim, or cure supreme. literally know nothing about them but!! im staring so hard, they look exactly like my type of character. also the songs that have released are really really good ahhh scratching at the walls i hope it releases somewhere soon so i can see them in action. hopefully itll get me interested in checking out other seasons as well :]

hirogaru sky ep 19 discussion, also talking about previous seasons (specifically kirakira and delipre)

when i say my jaw DROPPED at the reveal of tsubasa and ageha's finishing move...... also the irony of tsubasa being like 'it wasnt that cool ):' while my jaw was STILL ON THE GROUND

this development of this season has been SUCH an improvement over the last. i really liked all the characters from delipre, i am still the world's #1 rosemary stan, but the plot and character dynamics never really came together in a satisfying way.

the team dynamic for this season is a lot stronger, and i like that they've essentially split them into fighting pairs while still maintaining their friendship as a group, it just makes a lot more sense. ageha and tsubasa are ALREADY one of my favorite dynamics of all the seasons ive watched, theyre so so so cute.

also, due to the lack of a midseason precure leak, im actually like... not sure there's gonna be one?? and i think its probably a good thing there will be no midseason cure!

amane was a fine enough character but her becoming a precure was just not really that satisfying overall, considering we never even learned how she became a villain in the first place. and her getting added to the roster meant even LESS time to develop everyone else in an already extremely bloated roster. like, seriously, there were four precures, three fairies, all the cookingdom fighters, not to mention the villains were fighting for screentime and development too

compare it to kirakira a la mode which also had a large cast, and i think was much stronger because it made the choice to pair a lot of its characters off with eachother in their development, so it didn't ever feel like they were fighting for screentime. in delipre, it felt like they either had to fit all four leads into one episode, or they only focused on one, so you never really got the sense of there being any real intimacy between members.

im not sure of the exact production schedule for precure but i have to assume delipre was either in development in 2021 or 2022 and obviously the pandemic CANNOT have helped. so i dont really blame like, any of the staff. obviously also precure has like, one fucking week of a break a year, so that's not healthy for the series either. but it's good to see that the series still has a spark to it.

its been a looong time since we’ve been here huh. i finally finished another season of precure after...honestly i cant even bring myself to look how long its been. since its been so long im having a hard time directly stacking gopri up to my favorites so i will simply refrain from doing so. i’ll also say up front that i originally watched about 20 episodes of gopri a few years ago until i took a break that went on...a little too long, because of some factors that were mostly my fault. its sad i went all this time without seeing gopri but i think i saw it when i needed to see it so it all worked out. 

anyway here are my thoughts. 

go princess precure is amazing. its fantastic. its simply excellent. the care and love that went into this season is obvious, the attention to character arcs from the big to the small are all treated just as they should be and even with the twists along the way you still think “this is exactly what is best for this character”. the theme of dreams is executed fantastically, maybe the best execution of this theme i can think of. they explore like every angle i can think of, changing your dream, renewing your faith in your dream, gaining a dream, how to balance your dream and the rest of your life, and even more after that. gopri explores its theme with nuance and tact but is still more than able to keep things fun and upbeat as is befitting a children’s anime like precure. 

gopri is worth every second i spent watching it, frankly its worth more than the time i spent on it thats how good it is. i cannot recommend it enough for anyone who has not seen it, even if you’ve never seen precure before. nearly every beat hits its mark and the way it sets up its themes and arcs in the early days of the show translates to above excellent delivery in the latter half. gopri is a master class in precure and is an extremely very good hero show as well. i dont think ive ever thought “this is excellent hero media” about precure before, not that i think gopri is the only season that qualifies for this but gopri is the first season that put the thought in my head.
