Moana (2016) v Wall-E (2008)
Moana: "You're Welcome" for including this Lin Manuel Miranda masterpiece. The most powerful moments of Moana's arc are exponentially improved by the music accompanying it; "I am Moana" and "Know Who You Are" in particular.
Wall-E: "Wall-E has one of the best scores of any animated film" (submitter). And we really like how the music is the main mode of communicating to the audience for most of the movie. Plus, Hello Dolly's "It Only Takes A Moment" is such a human moment for two robots!

Being two of the best films of 2016 isn't the only thing they have in common; they also have their main protagonists meeting the spirits of their loved ones that have passed in the films and being surrounded by many other spirits.

How Far I’ll Go
"I've been staring at the edge of the water
Long as I can remember
Never really knowing why
I wish I could be the perfect son
But I keep coming back to the ocean
No matter how hard I try"
Varian/Moana crossover screenshot redraw with Varian! I know it's not great… what is anatomy? Eh it's good practice, anyway. 😂

I always loved how in moana, her grandmother doesn't give her a motivational speech to tell her keep going after she failed, tala acknowledged that this mission was a big responsibility and told her that it's ok to stop. The choice to continue the quest was entirely moana's and her grandmother and ancestors encouraged her; which made it far more impactfull

Trying to transliterate Leara's name into Quenya, and it somehow becomes, uh,
Lëarra
Which basically means "You Sealion!"
And I'm just, "Oh yes, this is That Sealion Woman, and she can breathe fire, as all sealions do."
If Leara, for any reason at all, needed an actual Quenya or Sindarin name for any fun Elvish shenanigans, we'll just use Calairie/Calearil, which is "Light of the Sea" in Quenya and Sindarin, and what Leara actually means.
