The ending of season 1 is a pretty common topic right now. Of course, many theories have been said so here I am adding my own jumbled mess of thoughts and probably repeating what other, smarter, people have already said.
Spoilers, duh
The main question I actually kinda wanna take a dive into is why destroy earth?
A parasite on a usual timeline, tries to take over its host and use the host to produce more parasites to infect others. Ok, that's fine. But if absolute solver is like a parasite- which is what it seems to be almost like- why destroy earth? Yes, we saw what it did to the Elliot mansion. That must have been only just the beginning and a small taste of what it's capable.
Tumblr media
So by the parasitic definition, it should try to find more hosts and more zombie drones to expand its reign. But does that really require to make earth into what N saw?
The first time I saw this theory it was pitched by LoreDrone on youtube- they do amazing theories and explanations. Go take a look, they explain it much better than I can. But basically they said that perhaps the true form of the absolute solver isn't this:
Tumblr media
Or this:
Tumblr media
And definetly not this:
Tumblr media
But instead is a black hole AKA this:
Tumblr media
That once the parasitic like nature finally takes complete control of the planet, it will do this and create a black hole.
The insane amount of times absolute solver has referred (or others have) to black holes is crazy. The most direct being: "The Solver of the Absolute Fabric. The void. The exponential end."
Sound familiar? Yeah, sounds like a black hole. It would actually explain some random things that we see throughout the show.
Tumblr media
Like the two black holes that slowly float away after Uzi and N defeat eldrich J.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And not to mention all of the black holes that are seen in drawings both from Nori and others in eps 4 and 6.
There is an issue here though. The small creatures that we see for eldrich J, the corrupted core plus the small head that was projecting Khan's dead body only have a small impact and therefore produce little black holes. Uzi was able to create- although accidently- black holes throughout Dead End. All of which could not take full form as the first time, she passes out and thus the black hole form disintegrates. And the second time was when N chopped off her arm.
This all means that the absolute solver needs more solver drones like Cyn to create a large enough black hole to take its final form.
Here's the kicker though.
Why send disassembly drones to the planet then? We get a direct quote from Liam himself saying that spoilers! The humans didn't make the disassembly drones- which pretty much leaves Cyn to be the one that made them, and that's pretty true seeing as she was already making prototypes in the library basement in ep 5.
Copper 9 and many other planets (when Tessa explained) were studying absolute solver and trying to use its powers. "But all they did was spread it." Sounds like a perfect plan for the absolute solver, right? Spread the parasites and its hive mind/cloud based nature to overtake galaxies! So then... why send disassembly drones to Copper 9? The main hub where two very powerful solver drones, by the looks of it, that have huge potential! Nori and Yeva.
And both killed by disassembly drones. Sounds counterproductive, doesn't it?
"J, relay hand. Cyn's orders."
"Step 1: Clear drop zone of life and construct spires. Step 2..."
"Enter labs with this symbol."
Ladies and gentlemen, here we are. Idk if it's a commonly accepted theory or take, but I'm on this boat and I will proudly burn down with it.
Cyn is on our side.
Tessa (although she's very sketch) and J are trying to figure out why Cyn sent disassembly drones to other exo-planets. It is also Cyn's administration that's blocking absolute solver from completely corrupting our trio. It was also Cyn that ordered the eradication of all worker drones. We see that many of these worker drones are... by all technicality and for the most part aside from some odd balls- are correctly disposed of. Their bodies are ripped apart, devoured of their oil and cannot reboot as a zombie drone.
If Cyn was completely corrupted by absolute solver, she'd send the disassembly drones to perhaps kill the worker drones to increase the rate of zombie drones to wake up with the absolute solver string in them- just like seen with Cyn. But no. The entire spire is constructed of corpses in pieces.
Now as for my take on the ending (and let me tell you, I bet you I'm 100% wrong and this will probably not happen) I think our trio will beat whatever the f*ck is in Cabin Fever labs and team up with Cyn to then go to other planets and save them from absolute solver. A rather optimistic uptake, I know. But I'm also for a lot of the more bittersweet and not so happy ending theories that are out there.
Tumblr media
I saw it from @villainsrule2018 for the first time. That this image may be Copper 9 by the end of the season. I absolutely love the idea that we might lose Copper 9 but perhaps save other planets. But I have another take on this. This is earth. We've lost earth already, and off to the side we have Copper 9's moons, implying Copper 9 is its next target.
As per usual, there's plenty of holes and inconsistencies in my theories and ramblings. Feel free to expand or go against this, I love hearing other theories on how season 1 will end. ^_^

Helo I would absolutely read your essay on Ianto Jones
The people have asked so the people shall receive - here's my 2000+ word essay on Ianto Jones through episodes 1-4. I have another in progress for episode 6 and the audio Broken, which I have not listened to but I have read several different summaries of it.
Ianto Jones's official role in Torchwood Three is the Archivist. However, he acts as general support, receptionist, butler and crime scene cover up in addition to this role. Prior to the episode Countrycide, he remained in the Hub during field operations, however the sixth episode of the first series saw him in his first on-screen field mission. At 23 when the show begins, he is Torchwood's youngest member, however he is far from its least experienced.
Before joining Torchwood Three (Cardiff), Ianto was employed at Torchwood One, the London branch whose downfall is shown in the Doctor Who episodes Army of Ghosts and Doomsday. He originally worked there as a junior researcher, however he also took on the job of Yvonne Hartman's personal assistant. He spent a short time as a junior field agent before returning to work as Hartman's PA. Whilst working there, he met and fell in love with Lisa Hallett, whom he started dating. This becomes significant after One's fall, upon which Ianto becomes one of 27 Torchwood London employees to survive the events, out of over 800. Having grown up in Cardiff, Ianto returned there and convinced Jack Harkness to hire him at Torchwood Three.
Despite being qualified, Ianto had to ask three times on three separate occasions before Harkness eventually gave him the job. By the time the program begins, Ianto has been at Torchwood Cardiff for three months. For the first three episodes he has very little screen time, appearing last out of any Torchwood Cardiff employee. He is first seen when Gwen, the protagonist, arrives at the Torchwood Hub for the first time. In this scene he is acting as a receptionist for the tourist office that is run as a front to the Hub. He is completely separate from the other employees, isolated even within the 5 person team. Rather than introduce him as the archivist, Jack chooses to say "he cleans up after us and gets us everywhere on time." This introduction paints the picture of him as a butler or lower-level employee, rather than someone with five years of experience within the organisation.
This image of him continues, with him appearing in the second episode to provide the team with food and then assist Jack when a prisoner escapes. Other than this, he remains either off screen or in the background, a lonely figure about whom the audience knows very little. He is never presented as one of the team, nor does any member of the team make an effort to include him. The only times in which he is seen in this episode is when he purposely draws attention to himself, something which he only ever does occasionally. He remains in the shadows, not a character who the audience is meant to focus on. Given the constant action and his rare appearances, it is easy to forget that he is ever there, something reinforced by the bold and full personalities of the other characters.
The third episode highlights his role within Torchwood. During the major action scenes, he is nowhere to be found. When they are desperately failing to find Harris, nobody even thinks to call Ianto and see if there's anything he can do at the Hub. He appears almost as comedic relief at some moments, with the "Splott/Sploe" comment being the most notable. He is seen only when he chooses to be, forgotten once more due to the high stakes, fast moving action and dynamics between the other characters. The only hint towards what sort of relationship he has with any member of the team is the tiny tidbits of flirting exchanged between him and Jack on two occasions. Even this tells us next to nothing about he and Jack's relationship, since one of Jack's most renowned characteristics is his constant flirting with any and all adult characters, including robots.
However, the scene that speaks the loudest about his character's role is the very end of the episode. Having understood the full, terrible potential of the Ghost Machine, Jack has Ianto lock it in the secure archives. This would be a tiny thing, considering the fact that Ianto's domain is the archives, if it weren't for the way that he is told to do it. Jack simply says his name and holds it out in Ianto's general direction. He never looks at him, responding only with a nod when Ianto asks "Secure archives?". He treats him not like an archivist, or a survivor or even an employee, but like a servant, someone he pays to do menial tasks for him. He does not see Ianto as someone who he needs to show respect to, and none of the others question it. The entire team is present, but none of them have any reaction to the way that Ianto is treated. Not a single one of them sees a problem with the fact that he is being treated as lesser, or being disrespected. For Gwen, this is understandable since she is dealing with the grief and guilt of being part of a man's death, however Tosh and Owen just act as if this is normal, which leads to the assumption that this is a regular occurrence. Different versions of that interaction must have occurred multiple times over the short period that Ianto had worked there.
Which brings us to Cyberwoman. The very first scene mirrors the end of Ghost Machine - Jack handing something to Ianto without acknowledging him, before immediately turning his attention to someone else. Ianto is left behind whilst everyone else goes out, he is always the outsider, the other. At this point, it is revealed that he has been hiding the remnants of Lisa in his basement, half converted and in pain. Ianto had no way of knowing that Lisa was not still herself, she spoke and acted like any human would if they were injured and dying. Somehow, Ianto was able to smuggle a full conversion unit/life support system and Lisa herself into the Hub without anyone noticing. Whilst he undoubtedly took many precautions to avoid being discovered, the fact remains that he could not have done so if any member of Torchwood Three had paid him any attention. All of them were perceptive, intelligent and presumably able to recognise a cyber conversion unit, this presumption coming from the fact that Owen recognised it, who is neither a tech expert nor the longest serving agent. The only one who wouldn't have been able to identify what it was was Gwen, who wasn't part of Torchwood when Ianto brought Lisa into the Hub. Once more, Ianto was ignored by the rest of Torchwood, fading into the background immediately after the worst event of his life, surrounded by the only people he knew who knew the truth of the "battle".
Later in the episode, Ianto still remains loyal to "Lisa", even though the Cyberwoman no longer has any part of her left. This is what the team, specifically Jack, blames him most for, telling him to "stand as part of the team". However, prior to this, no effort has been seen to involve Ianto as a member of the team, allowing him to become invisible. He was constantly undervalued; they used him as a dogsbody. Lisa had seen him, relied on him and loved him. If they had been thinking logically instead of acting emotionally, they would have realised that there was no reason for Ianto to choose to stand with them and every psychologically based reason for him to try and save Lisa. He lost everyone who could have provided him with support after Canary Wharf at Canary Wharf. Due to the secretive nature of Torchwood, Ianto could not legally tell anyone about the horrors that he experienced there; and the only people who knew shut him out completely. The only person he had left was dying and in agony; and she leaned on him so heavily that he could not lean on her.
Another point to consider is that the way Jack acts around Ianto is entirely based on what suits him. He allows Ianto to become unseen when he has no need of him, but orders him to be part of the team when he is faced with the reality of his treatment of Ianto. This demand is done with Ianto on his knees and a gun to his head. The only motives that Ianto would have had for agreeing were fear of execution and planning a future betrayal. In this scene he is filled with too much rage to be afraid of the threats; and he never had any wish to betray Torchwood Three, his only goal was to heal Lisa. To assume otherwise directly contradicts his actions in future episodes.
What can be considered the cruellest action towards Ianto is the use of Myfanwy to attack the Cyberwoman. Ianto came to the Hub with Myfanwy, named her and was the one who fed her and cleaned her nesting area. For Ianto, Myfanwy would have been something of a very large, dangerous, untamed pet. Something else that he cared about ripped away from him just as brutally as in London. However, what's almost worse than London is that she remains present, still exactly the same but completely different to him. Her existence for Ianto will forever be tainted by the memory of her attacking the Cyberwoman who bore Lisa's face. Such a minor loss at the time compared to Lisa, but nevertheless something he cares about also taken from him.
As if the episode did not already cause Ianto enough emotional anguish, one of the most emotionally charged scenes had not yet come. After Myfanwy’s attack, Ianto attempts to enter the Hub again through the tourist office. Before he has a chance to enter however, the other four members of Torchwood catch him up, leading to him pointing a gun at them and stating that he has “nothing left to lose”. Jack is able to call his bluff and disarm him, pinning him against a wall with a gun to his head once more. What follows is a furious exchange in which Jack demands that Ianto enter the Hub again to execute Lisa if she was not already dead and Ianto refuses, saying that “I won't do it, you can't make me”. His only attempt to defend himself is minor struggling when he is first pinned to the wall, after which he remains still. He has no way of knowing whether or not Jack will actually follow through on his threat “you execute her or I'll execute you both”, meaning that he is fully prepared to die rather than comply. At this point, Ianto has been completely stripped of his humanity - threatened with a deadly weapon, defenceless and being forced to choose between killing what he still sees as the love of his life and dying in defiance, which would do nothing to prevent the Cyberwoman’s execution. He doesn't know if she is already dead, but chooses death over pretending to comply then running or taking the chance that he will not have to shoot her since she could already be dead. He eventually is submissive and goes after her, however it can be safely assumed that his intention was not to kill her but to attempt to save her again. He goes in alone and could easily have run, but he chooses to cling to what he has, the remnants of Lisa.
A dreadful scene awaited him within. The body of Lisa with chunks of flesh torn away from the bones lies in a pool of her own blood; and an unknown woman stands before him. A bloody line is drawn across the woman’s forehead; and she recognises him. She calls to him, revealing the horrific truth of the Cyberwoman's actions. This woman has the body of a young pizza delivery girl, one that Ianto had called here, and the cybernetically modified brain of Lisa Hallett. The bloody line is from where the Cyberwoman had opened her skull, performed a brain transplant and fused the skull pieces back together. This moment truly annihilated any hope Ianto had left, forced him to see that there was nothing of Lisa left in the most brutal of ways. Ianto raised his gun but could not pull the trigger, whatever this monster was still had some of Lisa's memories. By talking of the times Ianto spent with Lisa, the Cyberwoman poisoned those memories. He had lost so much, now even his happy memories have been destroyed for him. Lisa Hallett died at Canary Wharf, but that was the day that her lover’s soul died with her body.

Hub: so has anyone actually worked out how tall the storm spire is?
Me: not that I'm aware of
Me and hub:
Tumblr media
Finally a meta I can science my way through! First, some assumptions:
The acceleration of gravity is the same in the tdp universe as it is in our world
The density and make up of the atmosphere is the same as ours
There is no downward motion in Rayla's dive, aka she and Viren drop off the Storm Spire but don't accelerate further because of any action from either of them
This involves a fair bit of math that I made hub do because he's better with numbers but the principles are all easy enough to understand. The acceleration of gravity on earth is about 9.81m/s² and Rayla free falls for 53 seconds. In our world, a free fall of 6 seconds is long enough to achieve terminal velocity (200km/hr, or 120mph in American), which is the the point at which your deceleration due to drag and your acceleration due to gravity are equal, aka, the fastest velocity you can achieve at without further acceleration provided by other means.
There's a big long formula here and also some derivatives which I'm not going to type up bc I'm on my phone and Fuck That Shit BUT basically, you can work out Rayla's displacement for the 6 seconds that she's accelerating due to gravity, and then plug in the value for terminal velocity to figure out her displacement for the remainder of the fall. Based on this information, her total displacement before Callum catches her is 2 863 metres (9 363 feet).
It's hard to estimate how far she falls along the the length of the mountain because there's no full shot of the Storm Spire, but we can assume that 2.8km isn't even the half of it. Let's assume, then, that the point at which Callum has to physically draw Ventus Spiralis is considered the point at which they need supplemental oxygen, and that he catches her at that point. On Everest, this is considered the Death Zone, and it is at an altitude 8 000m (26 000 feet).
So 8 000m + 2 863m puts the Storm Spire at a minimum height of 10 863m (35 363 feet).
For context, Everest is only 8 849m tall.
Having trouble visualising? I got u:
Tumblr media
So. THAT'S A FAIR WAY. And it begs the question:
How much of Viren did Claudia actually find at the base of the Storm Spire?
We actually didn't need to do all this math to work that out, we were just having fun. The fastest Viren could have been falling would have been terminal velocity. The ground would have been the equivalent of a truck going at 200km/hr slamming right into his body, so when Claudia says she "dragged [her father's] body into that cave," what she meant was she did it with a bucket. In multiple trips.
Anyway this was pointless but hub and I had fun. Claudia might be crazy, but if you found your dad's body Like That and then had to Drag It Around, I mean. Wouldn't you go crazy too?

Something angst ? What about the first big fight with miles ?
-👢
The margarita in my hand tastes incredible after a long day at work. I’m with my co-worker, Jen, sharing in a moment of celebration after completing a big, 6 month long project.
“To us!” She cheers me. “I am so glad that is done.”
“Until next year.”
“No, don’t remind me.” She groans. “If you even work here next year. You might be a trophy wife by then.” I snort on my drink, coughing and shaking my head no.
“I don’t think so. I like working.”
“That’s what they all say. My friend married a professional basketball player, she was going to keep working too. Now she spends her days renovating their three houses.”
“Basketball players make more money the hockey players.” I wave off.
“So are you saying it’s a possibility?” I blush.
“I mean, I hope so.” I murmur, smoothing out my cocktail napkin.
“It seemed pretty serious at the Christmas party. He couldn’t take his hands off you.” She’s right. His hands were glued to my ass, hip or side the whole night. He turned into the perfect charmer and shared endless stories of his seven NHL seasons in New Jersey. My boss demanded Miles come to the next team happy hour, but unfortunately Miles was out of town. It’s come up every day since though.
“It’s… getting there.” I giggle, then proceed to tell Jen all about the ways our relationship is escalating into something more than dating. Notably is our goodbyes when he goes on the road. He whines and gives multiple goodbye kisses and lingers in the apartment a lot longer than he should. Plus there is that little detail of him wanting to replace my old beater of a car.
“He wants to buy you a car!?” Jen shrieks as I finish. “You need to lock that shit up, babe.”
“Okay there is more to him than his job and money!”
“Yeah he’s also ridiculously hot.” I choke on my margarita, beginning to laugh and nod along. There is no reason to deny it. “Speak of the Devil… is that Miles?” She asks, pointing at a spot over my shoulder. I glance behind me as I’m taking a sip of my margarita.
“Uh. Yeah. That is.”
“Who is he with?” She wonders as I set my drink back down on the bar.
“His parents.” I’m a little embarrassed. I was just telling Jen all about how I think things with Miles are getting more serious. We have been spending more time than apart these days. I stay over at his place for days on end, only going home to grab more of my items and move them over to his place. I’ve even stopped leaving his place when he heads out on the road. He likes me in his bed.
But now he is here with his parents. All he told me tonight was that he had people in town from back home and they were catching an early dinner.
“Oh, have you met them?”
“No.” I shake my head. “Didn’t know they were in town either.”
“Oh….” She trails off. She grimaces slightly, but tries to hide it with her glass of Prosecco. I keep my back towards the door, hoping they will be seated away from us. They are, but unfortunately are in the path to head to the bathroom, which I need to use before heading… home? I was going to go to Miles’ place, but now I’m not sure what to do. We both suck our drinks down as the bar gets more and more crowded from the afterwork rush.
“Do you want to stay longer. Or?” Jen wonders.
“No, I’m going to use the bathroom then head out.”
“Okay, I’m going to sneak out now. Wanna put the kids to bed with my hubs.”
“Of course.” I hug her quick, then send her off to the front while I head to the bathroom. I try not to make eye contact with anyone at Miles’ table, figuring I’ll slip by and head out without being detected. I am seemingly successful.
But when I come out of the bathroom, Miles is leaning against the wall, waiting.
“Hey.” He breathes out, worry on his face.
“Oh hey.” I try for a smile but it’s admittedly a lame attempt.
“Um, I’m here with my parents.”
“I saw.”
“I’m sorry. I-”
“It’s cool. You don’t want me to meet them. But let me guess, I should come over later?” I’ve heard this shit before. This was my last “boyfriend’s” MO. I thought Miles was different though. It felt different.
“Come over if you want to, but not in the way you’re referring.” He stuffs his hands into his pockets.
“I’m going to my place. Have a good night.” I lean forward, kissing his cheek. He laces our fingers together to halt me.
“You’re upset. Can I please explain?” I shrug, looking down at the grey tiled floor. A man scoots by us to continue on towards the bathroom. “I really like you. And I have been telling my parents about you, but I wanted to… coach them a bit before you met them. I was planning on asking you to meet them tomorrow.” I stare back at him, unconvinced. “In the past, they have gotten really excited about meeting someone I am with. They come off really strong and it freaks women out. I wanted to talk to them about how to act… so they didn’t scare you off.”
“Miles, if you haven’t scared me off with your missing teeth and cuts all over your face, I don’t think your parents can.” His goofy chuckle shakes his big shoulders and I feel the tension leave my frame a bit.
“My mom is literally going to ask you if you will birth my babies tonight. Are you sure?”
“About her asking or having your babies?” Miles pauses for a moment, mouth dropping slightly open.
“Um… both?” He asks curiously.
“I’ll have your gigantic babies. But if we are doing this, we’re swinging for the fences and trying to four.”
“Oh… god.” He sputters.
“I’m kidding.” We both laugh together, then he tugs me back into his body. I rest my hand on his chest, rubbing over his sweater.
“I feel like an ass.”
“You kinda acted like one. It would have been nice to have a heads up, rather than ‘people I know’ are in town.”
“Yeah. Can we start over?”
“Sure.”
“My parents are in town. Will you have dinner with us?”
“I would love to.” Miles pushes out an anxious sigh, then takes the lead to bring you back to the table.

Chrissy help how do you keep motivation for such huge writing projects?? I've seen you posting about abot for a long time but I just clicked it and it's got like 360k words. My guy you are incredible and if you've got secrets to share I'd be very interested. Major props to you
(ABoT)
I'm hoping to resurrect Dickinsonian-era "paid by the word" writing gigs and retire off ABoT Kidding! kidding! I make 0 dollars and 0 cents off ABoT do not sue me IP holders.
More genuinely it's a couple things I guess. One big and simple one being just--I really like the story. It's long because there are a lot of parts I like and wanted to tell. Another is spite, because for a long period of time between 2017-2020 I thought I would never be able to come back to the story so it's something of a "fuck you look what I made anyway."
But I really REALLY think the biggest part to this all was the (tough, but doable) process of learning to be okay with this story taking however long it's gonna take, and being however long it's gonna be.
Back in the days when Tumblr was really a hub for fandom, fandom attention was extremely fleeting, and when you had any of it, it felt like it was always moments away from vanishing. Tourmaline, my 80k Steven Universe fic, I wrote in the span of just over 2 months. I had a chapter out roughly every 2-3 days for that entire sprint. I'm proud of pulling that off. But my main motivation for doing that was absolutely the fear of losing people's attention and interest if I dawdled even a little.
Early-days ABoT was like that too. The first 9 or 10 chapters were all posted in intervals of about 2-3 days apart. I was staying up extremely late to do this which wasn't good for me and I was doing it because I was afraid of losing people's interest and I was getting more intimidated the more I realized how long ABoT would likely be. And then for school and life reasons, my update schedule absolutely had to slow. And I was having a bad time because it was like I could feel myself losing readers and losing relevance, and the backlash was growing, and even when I was finding the time to write I'd started burning out hard on my passion for the story. I'd get frustrated with my own plot and characters, and you can't write a good passion project while frustrated with the characters.
And then I kinda quietly admitted defeat because the stress and the backlash were too much to handle and I couldn't wring anymore of this from myself. After a 1 year, 2 years, I was pretty much sure my readership was long gone. I still thought about the story constantly! I still cared. I just figured I'd missed my window and would never be able to come back except to backlash.
Then just shy of 3 years, I said "fuck it, actually" and wrote the next chapter (okay it was a lot more complicated than "fuck it" but that would take too long to explain.) And in FACT, a ton of the readership came back! It was an extremely warm reception! And new readers, too. Just a lot of really warm, positive feedback. Which absolutely blew my mind because it was completely at odds with my feeling that things needed constant updates to cling to relevance. And the idea of "well if they waited 3 years..." has helped me a lot with allowing time and breaks between chapters. I don't burn out on them. I edit them more. My update schedule's been more like 2-6 weeks between chapters, rather than days.
Allowing that down time, letting ABoT be a steady jog instead of an all-out sprint, has been absolutely crucial to getting as far through it as I am. Even right now, it's been pretty long since chapter 45. I dove super deep into putting ch45 together and I kinda needed some time off after to decompress and step away to not risk burn out. Which was very needed and helpful and now I'm back to chugging through ch46.
There was an old comment, I think on Reddit, that I read years ago which has stuck with me ever since. Someone was recounting a conversation with a single mother who was considering going back to college to get her degree, but was hesitant to do so because she would be 40 by the time she graduated. To which the other person responded "You'll be 40 anyway."
And "you'll be 40 anyway" plays in my head a lot. Like, ABoT's been going for almost 6 years. Well 6 years were going to pass anyway. ABoT might not be done for x-many more months. X-many more months are gonna pass anyway. Time's gonna happen anyway. So I'm not worried about whether this thing is still going by then or not. I'm just keeping at it until it's done.

CANADA 2025
Okay - so I am working from home, Max and Wax are also sick (testing negative for C-vid though), and over lunch we were discussing the 3-months we want to live in Canada in 2025. And how much money we need to save for it (which for a family of 4 is substantial).
ANYWAY - we spent my lunch break going through the bank account and figuring ways of saving money and cutting back costs. We talked about how we are lucky to live very comfortably, but that there were MANY ways we could make Canada work out. (Need to save ~$1k/fortnight for 2 years).
They REALLY want to go and live in Canada for a few months so... we're looking at doing the following:
No more cleaners
Getting rid of subscriptions we do not use
No more takeaways and eating-out or coffees etc.
Getting rid of second car + using public transport (or cycling)
Not replacing broken dishwasher
Growing more of our own vegetables (seeds/plants from friends etc.)
Minimising/reducing other costs (beauty treatments, haircuts etc.)
Currently putting $307/fortnight into a savings account because we paid of a separate part of our mortgage, so we just transferred the payments to a separate account named "CANADA"...
Also we only have one shot of doing this now - it can only be October/November/December 2025 as all the years after impact the boys' high schooling when they have exams etc. We'd have to pull them out of school for an entire term (and put them in home schooling, or do it via distance through the school - we'd make it work). Work already knows I am planning on doing this and I can work 2-3 days a week remotely (FROM CANADA) while using my annual leave which I am slowly accruing.
Hubs CANNOT work remotely (the security for his job is FAR tighter than it is for mine!), so he may only come for 6 weeks, however that would still be amazing.

Frick it, Dreamtale Infection AU Concept
The MLP Infection AUs have managed to inspire me to make something absolutely despicable, so here you go.
TWS: DESCRIPTIVE BODY HORROR (PLEASE TELL ME IF I NEED TO ADD ANYMORE OF THESE)
(also I updated some stuff after looking over it now that I’m no longer tired as hell)
Ready? Click READ MORE and prepare yourself.
THE PLOT
In a timeline where the human that originally killed Nim and went on to become a part of the being that killed/possessed Nightmare, there was never such a man. Rather, never such a human at all. A terrible plague swept the Tree of Feelings, seemingly from an unknown type of worm or parasite that had become resistant towards most means of magic, explaining how they were able to survive eating through the magic apples without dying. Ink and others are still unsure how this is possible, but there were more concerning things to worry about as the infected apples had found a host approximately 6 years after the passing of Nim. . .
THE CHARACTERS
DREAM
Status: Healthy Feeling: Confused/Scared Infection: 0% After a series of unfortunate events, Dream was taken from his AU and brought to a strange Multiversal hub of sorts alongside other Sanses trying to put a stop to this sudden infection. He has absorbed/eaten the last Golden Apple that survived the infestation and struggles to figure out what to do now that all of this is happening, but he continues to try and help when and how he can. Think of this as the replacement for the original Dark Apple Incident, only...Way worse. He is the most sought after by the infection and the infected, as his body contains one of the last non-infected Golden Apples and serves as a great weakness towards their growth if he ever figures out how to unleash his greater capabilities and take a stand. "...Brother...I need to help my brother. Help everyone. But...How?"
SWAP
Status: Injured Feeling: Tense/Determined Infection: 0% After losing Ink and his brother, Swap's become a lot more serious and willing to get his hands dirty to protect those he cares about. He looks after Dream like a big brother and will fight till his SOUL shatters before surrendering. He mostly just wants to keep hope high and people safe. He's usually the one amputating people when they are at risk of infection, and thankfully hasn't had to amputate himself yet. He does his best not to be reckless, but in extreme, aggressive times, sometimes he can forget. "This is for everyone. I AM the Magnificent Sans, and I WILL make sure we survive this! I swear on it..."
ERROR
Status: Missing Feeling: Annoyed/Stressed Infection: 23% Error has no clue what's going on. Originally he was just going to have it his way and erase whatever vile abominations were popping up as he usually does, but for once he was overpowered by someone who wasn't Ink. More on that later... Swap had insisted on amputating him, but Error never really liked people touching him, so he simply vanished, leaving the group behind. His right arm's been badly bruised and shows signs of early infection, but refuses to get it fixed by anyone other than himself. He was always stubborn like that... And that stubbornness will eventually cost him. "Forget it...I don't need their help. I can figure out a better way to deal with this than having one of Ink's friends cutting my arm off."
INK (UPDATED)
Status: Infected Feeling: Hysterical, Losing his mind Infection: 62% As he's partially made of ink and able to turn into ink, he quickly became a victim to the outbreak after realizing too soon that he was in danger. The infestation's ink-like substance fused itself with Ink's own, basically possessing him. The vials have been thrown aside and now carry the same substance to infect others with, his emotions now being managed through the ink itself as it is sort of like liquid negativity. The infectious substance can be seen running through and down his arm and leg bones as well as out of his eyes and mouth. This makes Ink a lot more animalistic and irrational, and although it still speaks a little bit like him, this is no longer Ink. It's unclear if he can regain himself in this state, but he's certainly not getting any better. His main goals have become spreading the infection to more and more people, but he’s also hunting after Error while he’s at it. He’s their primary target so far, and loves to taunt him and the rest of the gang whenever he gets to. His warped mind sees all of this as nothing more than a game, and he’s not looking forward to losing it. "H a h . . . Come on, Error!. . . Isn't this a wonderful game!?"
DUST
Status: Missing Feeling: Manic/Anxious Infection: 5% Once infected humans and monsters found their way into Dusttale, Dust was quick to begin going on a killing spree with excitement. However, he caught on quickly that something was wrong, and was quick to flee the area. He can't figure out if he's been infected or if his mind's playing tricks on him, but he's not about to let that answer keep him from getting his way. "I'll find whoever did this and kill them where they stand...I'm sure I could...Heh...That sounds real fun, doesn't it Paps..."
KILLER
Status: Dead Feeling: N/A Infection: 100% While Dust and Error were able to realize ahead of time that they were outmatched and got away in time before risking too much of their own well-being, Killer wasn't so fortunate nor willing to back down. He took on several at once, the thrill of getting dust and blood all over the battlefield and his own jacket exciting him. He let the bloodlust get to his head, and paid the price once he began to tire out and was ambushed. What remains of his body and especially his jacket went to use after the infected fed on his bones and magic. A dish best served cold indeed. [N/A]
HORROR
Status: Infected Feeling: Hungry Infection: 74% Horror simply thought the human shuffling around Snowdin drooling a strange black substance was merely just a really sick or diseased one. He didn't plan to eat it, of course not, but it seemed by the human's expression that it wanted to eat him. In an encounter with this strange human, Horror realized as its mouth spewed out black tendrils that it was more than just a simple illness or a sick day that wasn't right with this human, but it was too late. What was inside of the human entered Horror through the large crack in his skull, and from there it festered, soon to devour the lumbering skeleton whole. What was once Horror has now been reduced to a mass of tendrils and living agony in a decomposing, axe-wielding brute. Do not return to this AU. It will know you're there. It will hunt you down. It will kill you. ". . . h u n g r y. . . n e e d t o e a t . . ."
NIGHTMARE
Status: Dead Feeling: N/A Infection: 100% He never wanted to eat that disgusting apple, but he was forced to by bullies for a sick joke. Forced to unleash a hell that he never wanted to. It started as a minor headache and some stomach pain, but quickly spiraled out of control. It was growing inside of him, and it was eating him alive. He couldn’t stop it. It poured out of his eye and mouth uncontrollably, tore through his bones with force and left the boy’s body mutilated before turning to dust. The substance took no physical form as of then, but knew from this first host what form it would eventually take on once it had enough power and mass to. . . IT STOLE HIS VOICE AND BODY. DO NOT TRUST IT. STAY ALERT. IT MAY LOOK AND SOUND, BUT CANNOT FEEL. N/A
MORE CHARACTERS MAY BE ADDED, IM JUST LISTING OFF THE ONES I HAD IDEAS FOR. FEEL FREE TO SUGGEST YOUR OWN!
THE INFECTION
It originates from the Dark Apples from the infested Dreamtale universe and came to be once Nightmare fell victim to them, which allowed the substance to absorb his life and magic energy and even some of his memories and mind to be able to start infecting other beings in the area, such as the bullies who caused this to happen and eventually most of the village’s residents. Eventually it gained enough power and energy to evolve from a large writhing mass of tendrils and slime to being able to mimic the shapes of those it infected, but before it could do so, it remained a large mass of black slime that spread around the village and withered away plant life until Ink came along to try and tackle the issue himself after evacuating the remaining, living and non-infected inhabitants out of the AU including Dream. Ink was eventually infected himself and became one of the main hosts used by the infection. “Ink” then went around spreading the infection to AUs like Underswap and Horrortale, where it proceeded to do massive damage. If nothing was done about it, it could destroy the entire Multiverse, so it’s a good thing survivors like Swap, Dream and Error were around, even if Error wasn’t too interested in being a hero and working with his rival’s teammate (Referring to Swap).
The Infection has a few stages and forms which I’ll go over.
Stage 1 - Infection has entered host, growing inside of stomach and is stealing nutrients. Will quickly begin consuming the stomach and other organs. Feeds off of negativity and will grow faster in more depressed, stressed, or hopeless hosts. Weakened by optimistic and positive hosts and greatly by positive magic. This is the only time that the infection can be amputated or possibly removed, but be warned; It spreads fast.
Stage 2 (UPDATED)- Infection has grown too big to be contained by host and breaks out forcefully by tearing through skin, bone, etc like a cocoon and killing the host in the process. The mind and original host are gone, there remains nothing but the parasite. Hosts such as Nightmare and casual residents will commonly be eaten through quickly and without thought, but others with potential such as Horror and Ink will be eaten sparingly as to make full usage of their abilities, but still making sure they have no more control. The infected that choose to make use of their hosts without consuming them immediately are classified as Advanced Hosts.
From here, the parasite will either choose to remain a roaming mass and fuse with others to create larger blobs that’ll cover and surround areas, or begin focusing on mimicry’ and mobility, fusing with others to eventually form mobile humanoid forms based off the other hosts they’ve taken on. These can also begin mimicking the voices of their hosts to trick people. These are classified as Roamers and Mimics respectively.
(NEW) Symptoms of the infection include:
Increased hostility and negativity
Slurred speech
Mild to severe headaches and stomach pain
Weakened Immune System
Extreme Hunger
Emotional Outbursts
Vomiting
Black tar-like substance spilling from bones, skin, eyes and mouth
Bloodlust
Can be weakened or even killed by strong amounts of positive magic, and is weak to fire, explosions, and large amounts of blaster-based energy. Light or sunlight does not seem to hurt it, rather only aggravate it.
THE MARE (UPDATED)
The Mare is what you’d consider the Corrupt Nightmare of this Multiverse and the root of the infection. It is the strongest and most dangerous thing to come out of the infection, but if killed, the infection will not go away instantly. It will however be greatly weakened due to such a loss. It’s the same basic idea with some extra steps. The original mass that includes the remains of Nightmare will eventually support enough mass to take the form of a large, skeletal creature that uses the leftover jacket from Horror or Killer (Depending on if Horror dies or not. If he does, then it uses his jacket over Killer’s) as a sort of outfit and way of keeping a low-enough profile. This is the entity that will be hunting after Dream and the main cast once it forms, it’s primary goal being to lure away and kill Dream. Design is similar to Classic Corrupt Nightmare’s, only…WAY more grotesque and lanky. This variant commonly has its hood up and more slim, sharper tentacles than the original (Which become VERY useful for quickly infecting and killing people, making it REAL dangerous), and might I also mention is a lot less mentally (and let’s be honest, physically) humane. The Mare is a lot more irrational and animalistic, while commonly remaining silent especially during hunting or killing, it’s known to have been heard laughing or even screaming uncontrollably before. It’s unclear why, but it’s varying, mixed mindset is potentially due to all of the infected making up its body having each of the remains of their original hosts’ emotions clashing together. Only one Mare can exist at a time, it seems, due to there only have being one Nightmare. It can also mimic the voices of all previous hosts the infected that make up its body have taken over, almost to a near-perfect degree expect for the slight echoing effect and very minor pitch lowering.
Welp, that’s that idea. Do whatever you want with it, change it up, add some new things, he’ll, maybe even do your own thing and pay no attention to this concept, I don’t really care. Just have fun with it! :)
I have no clue if any of this even makes sense it is late as hell for me and I’m literally typing the rest of this out in bed on my phone but uhhhhhh yeah that’s all suggest/criticize/correctness if ya want, ye

So I have this long-standing tradition where, after I finish a video game, I sit down and listen to the soundtrack outside of the game's context.
It serves as a sort of "conclusion" to the experience and simultaneously helps me evaluate the game as a whole a little better... After all the soundtrack is often what sticks with us long after we're done actively playing a game. It preserves the memories we've made along the way.
That means: I have finally found the FF Sixteen OST online in its entirety and could finally follow through with this tradition. (Debatable how much it applies considering I didn't actually play the game myself, but it felt necessary.)
The final missing piece to the pissbaby gamer rage essay. Significantly less raging this time, though.
It's okay. I don't love it. There's worse.
I had very unfavourable opinions of the OST during the game itself which might have been due to the overall pacing issues, where large stretches were filled with the same hub music and then everything bombastic all happened at once and either side of the coin was exhausting in its own way.
I still can't believe there are over 200 songs in the OST when I could have sworn I heard like. Maybe 10 or so during gameplay. A lot of it is very same-y. A large part of the OST can be split into "loud choir explosion" or "sad piano". There isn't a whole lot in between. Good for people who like it, not so much for me.
Which means my biggest issue is the very subjective "I just don't like the style". It's not a bad soundtrack, but I'm just really not a fan of the direction the music took. The battle themes are over the top (fair for the equally over the top DBZ kaijū battles, annoying with 3 wolves that show up on the side of the road). The calmer songs don't really hit right for me. No chord progressions or melodies that hook me. Unfortunate. I did however appreciate the electronic influences in the music when the alien baddies were on screen. (in this fantasy game that is based on medieval reality and that's why people of colour cant exi-)
I have also since learned that there isn't one acoustic guitar song that plays for 20 hours straight. There are like 6 or so that all sound the same. I don't know if that makes it better or worse. I hate them all. (I don't hate acoustic guitars. It's these songs in particular.)
That said - I was curious about which ones are people's favourite tracks of the OST and went checking those out in particular. Consistently in people's tops was Ascension and I can't deny that one's been plagueing (semi-endearing) my memory a bunch the past days. Probably the theme that stuck out the most to me while watching the game. If not the entire theme, then at the very least That Violin Part. If you know, you know.
You know what. If you don't know, here:
(footage stolen from here)
Like damn. Good rhythm going on there with the off beats. Also fits the relevant character nicely in terms of mood. And I like that the battle phase before this one has a more low-key version of this song playing before it goes into this full ham version.
I just kinda wish more of the battle music had been a bit more... this. A bit more... subtle. Like yes it slaps hard but this song legitimately feels calm in comparison to the other battle tracks. This drives me nuts.
There's one other song I keep getting stuck in my head which is one that plays fairly close to the end (in the final... "dungeon" (cutscene? sequence? QTE battle?)). I figured out today that I don't actually really enjoy listening to the song on its own but I like it in-game in combination with the voice perfomance. There's an interesting dissonance in it that blends super nicely with the voice acting. (I'm being held hostage by the game's voice acting. It's unfortunately way too good. Voice actors are once again holding too much power over me.)
Other than that... I have one final criticism. The prelude theme. We must. Leave it. Alone. Enough. It's fine playing once as a gimmick somewhere in the game (I do genuinely like the menu (pause screen?) arrangement) but having it woven into what seems like every 5th song feels like someone is smacking a sign into your face that screams "YOU ARE PLAYING A FINAL FANTASY GAME." Seriously it's unbearable. (Also I did take notice of the FF1 overworld theme being rearranged into a battle theme for the final segment of the game. I don't know why, but fine. Not complaining about that one.)
Overall it's a solid "mh" from me. Not the worst OST we've had in the series (thirteen trilogy exis-COUGHAGFNJKN) but definitely on the lower end for me. Not of bad quality, but not my cup of tea at all. Dark Souls III OST executed the epic orchestra choirs better somehow. More interesting composition. Spaced out better throughout the game. Idk.
Welp. Back to getting haunted by voices and violins now o/

Dear Covey, (31/03/2024)
Hiya, completely forgot to say thank you for the reply on the chronically ill/disabled reader yesterday! Brain fog has been frying my thoughts this last week 😭
But thank you so much and I’ll make sure to be really detailed whenever you decide to open your requests again (no rush!! You and your happiness/health are way more important than your writing!) if you have any questions when that time comes I’ll be happy to answer them 🫶
I love seeing three other people say about their own experiences and I could give my own perspective on really anything for the illnesses I have/chest ports if you need it (saw someone else say about POTS and chest ports and was shocked at the fact I might have an illness twin somewhere out there 😭) but of course please do not rush yourself to open requests when you aren’t ready!!! The amount of fics/requests you have is mental but is reflecting how good you are as a writer 🫶
Anyway, how’s your day been so far? I don’t know the time difference between the UK and California (probably around 6/7 hours I would think but it’s roughly 20 to 10 at night where I am right now so you could probably tell me what the actual difference is)
Been a busy day here despite it being the Easter holidays, I go on study leave for my exams when I go back to school so I’m studying already which is no fun 🙁
Lots of love,
🎞️ <3
of course!! im glad your able to find people you can relate to or talk about similar problems with!! never thought my blog would become a hub for you guys to meet, but that's pretty cool to me!!
ive just kinda spent my day cleaning bc my room desperately needed it, stressing about spanish hw i should do but im not gonna lmao im on spring break god damn it. it's currently 1:49 over here and i would try to do the math but i hate math so someone else figure it out. ugh i hate studying bc as a kid really didn't need to and know i kinda dont know how but ive kinda created a system over the last year. so it's all good!!
hope youre day gets better and less busy!!

Project RBH Devlog 0002 – Start The Clock
So the Game Design Document (GDD) is done. And much sooner than I’d anticipated.
It’s not as fleshed out as it could be, but this is a project I am working on solo so that’s less of an issue.
Since I don’t have a team to foster communications with, all it really needs to be is a place to gather my thoughts and focus my design to avoid feature/scope creep. Speaking of which, I’ve figured out my primary design brief around which everything else will revolve:
RUN AND GUN.
To expand on the idea, combat will be based heavily on the player moving around the screen, and there should be plenty of projectiles flying around from both sides.
With this done, I am officially out of preproduction. The only real thing I have left to do in preproduction is concept art, but again, solo developer. Honestly figuring out the specifics of the art style is more important to me than having ideas for what everything will actually look like.
Though speaking of those placeholder sprites I have running around, now that I’m out of preproduction, I think it’s time I actually make something shareable.
That’s right, Phase 2 is making a vertical slice of this game! Something I can share and show off to people to drum up more support for the project. Something that doesn’t have a bunch of squares with skulls doodled on them for enemy sprites!
The goal here is to make the finished game in miniature. My plans for that are:
1 ‘dungeon’
7 enemies
1 boss
The basic powerups
Like I said. Miniature. All pretty simple stuff. And since I finished my GDD much earlier than I expected, I’ve actually already started. That’s right! I’ve bamboozled you all! I currently have eight powerups fully functioning (though they don’t all synergize like they will eventually) and four whole enemies done!
Let’s take a look at how they show off the Run And Gun idea!
Our first enemy is the only one with an official name so far. I’d like to introduce you all to the Bamb. Careful, they’re easily excitable.
Tumblr media
As you can see from that horrible placeholder explosion, these things go out with a bang. I’m not super satisfied with the red flashing right now, but that’s something I’m doing in code that will be better done with the final sprite later. The Bamb will slowly fade to white showing how long you have left before it explodes.
While Bambs don’t add a whole lot of bullets to the screen, their massive explosions are good incentive to keep moving. They’re not about to blow up on their own, either. These things light their fuse only when they’re close to the player. And as you can see from those crates that it takes with it, that explosion takes no prisoners.
Next up we’ve got another area denial enemy, one that can help support other enemies.
Tumblr media
This guy doesn’t move. At all. But they sure do make whole areas of the screen hostile to the player! And they add a new projectile to the screen as well! That’s some Run And Gun if ever I saw it! And since there’s no friendly-fire, other enemies can stand right beside it and fire at you from range. Of course, the player also has projectile attacks—that’s kind of the whole point—so it’s not that dangerous.
Moving on to what’s pretty much a reskin of the basic enemy you’ve already seen, but with a twist!
Tumblr media
That’s right.
They have shotguns.
That’s it; that’s the only difference.
I have plans for two more enemies, which if we include the basic enemy I’ve had this whole time brings my total up to 6 of the planned 7, so good progress on that front!
So, what’s left to do before I can launch the demo?
Finishing the remaining three enemies
Creating the hub area that you start at and return to on death
Procedural Generation
Menus
Actual Art
Music and Sound Effects
That’s also the order it’s going to be done in, by the way.
I’m not looking forward to the music and sound effects though. I’ve messed around with sound effect creation in college and honestly I’m quite fond of fiddling with settings in a Digital Audio Workplace, but I also don’t have a sound library, so I’ll have to track one of those down somewhere. I know of some free places.
Music likewise. I’m not much of a composer (yet) so I’ll be grabbing some royalty free stuff so it’s not total silence in the background. Not quite the ambience I’m going for.
So that’s it then. Off to the races. Making an actual product that I can show off to people and get some interest. All pretty simple.
Too simple, in fact.
I am after all on something of a time limit until the bank repossesses my kneecaps. Let’s speed things up a bit.
I’m going to have this vertical slice, this miniature demo, finished and playable within a month.
I am giving myself four weeks to do this. We’re currently on Devlog 2. Devlog 6 should, if all goes well, be the launch announcement. Patrons get first grabs of course.
Deadline set.
Clock’s ticking.
Until next Devlog!

Regards, Loki - Chapter 29
Master List
On Sunday, the charity gala details had reached Louisa.  “It sounds incredible!”
Cora was just as excited.  “I wonder if anyone can go?  Does it say how much tickets are?”
She looked at the news article and did some googling before coming up defeated.  “It’s by invitation only.”  They groaned collectively.  Rather than sit about and sulk, they decided to host their own Labyrinth night that evening and would invite Chad and Brad.  Louisa would bake a few things.  Chad and Brad said they’d come and bring the food, and Cora would bring the drinks.  The movie part was set to start at 6 that evening.
Louisa decided to make a couple different things: lemon bars and millionaire bars.  Getting an early start, they were done by 3 pm.  As she was putting them in containers, she had an idea.
Louisa:  Hey Bruno!  How’s your day going?
Bruno: It’s going well, Ms. Louisa.  How are you?
Louisa: It’s going well!  I just made a few things and was wondering if you could take a container of them to Loki?
Bruno:  I can come by in about an hour.
Louisa: You are the best!  And I will have your payment as well: your own container of treats.
Bruno: Ms. Louisa, you spoil me.
She spent the next 20 minutes or so figuring out the best way to package them so they wouldn’t end up smashing into each other during their transit.  Eventually, she decided to use a larger container and place wax paper between each treat.  She still had some spritz left (and they were still soft and tasty) and included a few of those.
When Bruno came knocking, she was ready for him and gave him a bright smile.  “I have one for you, and one for Loki.”
Bruno was always happy to help her.  Even with everything that’s happened since he met her, she was still a sweet lady which he found was a rare find these days, and he wanted to help protect her from those who’d try to change that.
“You are too kind, Ms. Louisa.”  He opened his container to find not 1 but 3 different treats.  He pulled out one of the biscuits as it’d be the least messy and took a bite, humming with delight.  “You’ve outdone yourself!”
“I’m glad you like them!”
“I have some free time.  So I’ll take these over to him now.  You two are lucky I like you.  Otherwise, I’d just keep this second container for myself.”  They laughed together.  “I had a similar issue with my friend Chad last night.  I texted his hubs about the treats he was bringing home to make sure they actually made it home.”
“I can’t say I blame the guy.  You are an incredible baker.  You should think about finding somewhere to sell these, like a farmer’s market or something.”
She laughed.  “You’re too kind, but no one would want to buy this.  Plus, it’s just something I do for fun.  I start back to my job soon, and this has been a great stress relief.”
“If you ever decide to, consider me your first customer.” He smiled at her.
“I’ll keep that in mind.”
******************************************************************************
It was almost an hour later (thanks to awful traffic) when he arrived at James’ door where he was already expected but had let him know he’d be a bit delayed.  When James welcomed him in, Bruno handed him the container of treats.  “Compliments of Ms. Sigyn, sir.”
James took the proffered container and opened it, smelling the delicious treats. He instantly recognized the biscuits as the same ones she’d sent him a picture of a couple days ago.  Not wasting a moment, he picked one up and took a bite.  His eyes went big as he tasted them, quickly eating the rest of it.
“I told her she should consider selling her baked goods, but she doesn’t think anyone would buy them.  You and I both know she’d be a big hit.”
James couldn’t agree more.  Before he could say anything, Bruno spoke up again.  “She did mention something in passing that I thought you’d like to know.”
“Oh?”  He was curious.
“That man she went to the movie with?  Chad?”
“Yes?  What about him?”  He was hoping for some good news when it came to that man.
“You’ll be delighted to know that he’s married.”  He could see the smile appearing on James’ face but then dropped.
“If he’s married, why is he going out with her to a movie?”
Bruno grinned.  “She told me that she gave Chad some treats to take home…….to his husband.”
James laughed, obvious relief spreading through him.  Bruno was glad he could cheer him up.  “You said you had an errand you’d like me to run?  I’m assuming it has to do with Ms. Sigyn.”
James thought for a moment, lost in the flood of relief.  “Oh yes!”  He ran to his office and came back with an elegant envelope.  “Would you mind, terribly, taking this to her?”
******************************************************************************
Back at her place, Louisa changed into clean comfy clothes as her previous clothes were covered in sugar and flour.  She made a mental note to get an apron.
Everyone started arriving early around 5:30, and of course, Cora brought up the upcoming gala.  The guys were stunned and asked about tickets but quickly became jealous when Cora and Louisa told them it was a charity event by invite only.  “Who do we have to bribe to get an invite?”  They laughed knowing they’d never get to go.
Louisa queued the movie while the others brought the food and drinks to the living room, placing them on the table.  As expected, everyone sang along with the songs throughout the movie; however, when it came to the ballroom sequence dream, they all watched in awe.
“I wish I could go to a ball like that,” Louisa said.  “It’s been a dream of mine since I was little.”
At the very moment when Jareth starts to dance with Sarah, there was a knock at the door.  Looking at each other, no one had any idea who it could be.
Cora suggested it was probably someone going door to door selling magazines or something like that, but Louisa was curious enough to go check.  Looking through the peephole, she was surprised to see Bruno was back and opened the door.  “Is everything ok?”
Bruno smiled and held out the envelope.  “For you from Mr. Loki.”  She was confused as she took the envelope.  Bruno bid his farewells and left.
“Who was that, sweetie?”  Brad was nosey.  Cora filled him in on the details about Bruno being a go-between for her and Loki.  Louisa made her way back to the couch, staring at the invitation.
“Are you going to open that?  Or do you have x-ray vision and are reading it through the envelope?”  Chad smacked Brad on the arm.  “What?  If she’s not going to open it, I will.”  He made the motion to swipe the envelope from her but stopped when she flipped it over, starting to open it.
Pulling out the elegant paper, she read it and was stunned to silence.  Cora looked over her shoulder trying to see what it was.  Since neither spoke, Brad snatched it, and the envelope, away to take a look before Chad could stop him (not that Chad would have because he was dying to know what was in the envelope as well).
“You are hereby invited to the Labyrinth themed Charity Ball.”  The invitation included the time, date, and location.  “Honey, I don’t care what plans you might have for that night, but consider them canceled!  You have to go!”
Chad took the invitation to look at it, but Brad held it away.  The only thing he got in the attempt was the envelope.  It didn’t take him long to notice there was still something in there.  Opening the envelope back up, he saw there was a folded note.  Taking it out, he unfolded it and read aloud.
Dear Sigyn,
I hope you will do me the honor of joining me at the ball?  I know our arrangement was set for anonymity, but I would very much like to meet you if you are comfortable doing so.  I will not be offended if you say no.  You are welcome to use the invitation either way.
While the theme is Labyrinth (which I know is your favorite movie), it is also a masquerade ball.  So there will be no need to worry about revealing yourself should you not wish to.
I hope you choose to attend.  I believe it will be a magical night for everyone attending.
Regards,
Loki
Cora grinned, secretly knowing that Loki was planning something like this, but she didn’t know the extent of it.
Louisa was even more stunned, if that was possible, and Cora could see she was becoming overwhelmed.  “It’s okay if you’re not ready to meet him.  You don’t have to go if you don’t want to.”
“But she……” Cora glared at Chad which shut him right up.
“And you don’t have to decide it right now.  It’s not happening for a month.  If you decide to go, we’ll help you look for a dress.  If you don’t want to go, we’ll all forget about it.”
Louisa looked at Cora, grateful for her best friend.  At this moment, she had no idea where she’d be without her.  Deep down, she knew she wanted to go.  Amidst their texts, she felt a bond with this man and was curious as to his identity but wanted to respect his wishes.  Now that he revealed he wanted to meet her, too?
“I don’t know, Cor.  What if he finds me disappointing?”
Cora wrapped her arm around her friend.  “I think the question should be will you find him disappointing.  You are an amazing woman.  Any man would be lucky to know you.”  Brad and Chad wholeheartedly agreed.  They all thought she should go, but no one wanted to pressure her into doing something if she didn’t want to do it.

im very new to splatoon in general, only joining in a few days after 3 came out.
so i had a Wii U sitting next to me, and figured id play the first one and make a big review out of it because well, i wanted to understand why so many of my friends loved the first game.
did that after 3 grueling months, and then TEN DAYS after i uploaded said review, direct comes along and they reveal dlc for splatoon 3… with the first games hub returning
needless to say, i was finally able to join the hype train with my friends after 6-7 years.
i finally get the appeal of funny squid game…
ONE OF US ONE OF US!!!! Splatoon 1 was the best, I’m always afraid new fans won’t like it because it doesn’t have all the upgrades we have now, but splat2 and 3 only exist because of splat1’s successes and failures. It’s such an important game and I think if people have the chance to play the original they should! Now with the new hub coming to splat3 I think it’ll be so nice for new players to get that experience of the old game while still having all the upgrades and play style they’re used to- but now they get to know the culture of the first game and why it’s so endearing to fans like me who have played that game a lot ❤️

Travel Smarter: How to Slash Your Airfare Costs in Half [40 Tested and approved Tricks and Hacks]
Are you tired of depressing yourself trying to figure out how to satisfy your wanderlust? You're not alone. Traveling on a budget is an art, and one of the most significant expenses is often the cost of flights. But fear not! In this comprehensive guide, we'll explore a myriad of tricks and tips to help you travel on half the price of tickets. By the end of this article, you'll be equipped with the knowledge to find great deals and explore the world without emptying your wallet. (Read to the end_100% _Worthy_applicable for every traveller)
1. Book in Advance
One of the simplest ways to save on airfare is to plan ahead. Airlines often offer cheaper fares for those who book well in advance. Aim to book your flights at least a few weeks or even months ahead of your departure date.
2. Be Flexible with Your Travel Dates
If your travel schedule allows, being flexible with your departure and return dates can lead to significant savings. Mid-week flights are often cheaper than weekend flights, and traveling during off-peak seasons can also yield lower prices.
3. Use Fare Comparison Websites
Utilize fare comparison websites and apps to your advantage. Platforms like Skyscanner, Kayak, and Google Flights allow you to compare prices across multiple airlines and booking platforms to find the best deal.
4. Sign Up for Fare Alerts
Many travel websites and airlines offer fare alert services. Sign up to receive notifications when the price of your desired route drops, allowing you to snag the best deal.
5. Consider Alternative Airports
Check if there are alternative airports near your destination. Flying to a nearby airport and using ground transportation can sometimes be more cost-effective than flying directly to your intended location.
6. Embrace Red-Eye Flights
Red-eye flights, which depart late at night and arrive in the early morning, are often cheaper. Plus, you can maximize your travel time by sleeping on the plane.
7. Travel Light
Avoid checked baggage fees by packing only what you need in a carry-on bag. This not only saves money but also time at the airport.
8. Utilize Airline Miles and Rewards
If you frequently travel, consider signing up for a frequent flyer program or credit card with travel rewards. Accumulating miles and points can lead to free or heavily discounted flights.
9. Be Patient and Persistent
Finding the best deals takes time and persistence. Don't settle for the first fare you see. Monitor prices over a period and strike when the cost is right.
10. Mix and Match Airlines
Sometimes, booking one-way flights on different airlines can be more affordable than a round-trip ticket with a single carrier.
11. Student and Youth Discounts
If you're a student or a young traveler, there are often special discounts available. Make sure to explore options like the International Student Identity Card (ISIC) and youth travel programs.
12. Join Travel Forums and Communities
Engage with travel enthusiasts on forums like TripAdvisor or Reddit's r/travel. You can gain valuable insights into deals, mistakes to avoid, and insider tips.
13. Wait for Sales and Promotions
Keep an eye out for airline sales and promotions. Airlines frequently offer discounts on specific routes or during holidays and special events.
14. Negotiate with Airlines
In some cases, you can negotiate with airlines directly, especially if you've found a better deal elsewhere. It never hurts to ask for a discount.
15. Use Loyalty Points
Check if your credit card or other loyalty programs offer opportunities to redeem points for flights or discounts.
16. Consider Nearby Cities
If your destination is in Europe, you may find it cheaper to fly to a major hub city and then take a budget airline or train to your final stop.
17. Clear Your Browser Cookies
Some believe that airlines may track your search history to increase prices. Clear your browser cookies or search in incognito mode to avoid this.
18. Be Open to Layovers
While direct flights are convenient, flights with layovers can be significantly cheaper. Use layovers as an opportunity to explore another city for a few hours.
19. Package Deals
Sometimes, booking a flight and accommodation together as a package can result in savings. Explore options from travel agencies and websites that offer package deals.
20. Embrace the Sharing Economy
Use services like economybookings for accommodations and Uber/Lyft for transportation to save on overall travel costs.
21. Hacker Fares
Hacker fares are combinations of one-way tickets from different airlines to create your own round-trip journey. They can sometimes be cheaper than traditional round-trip bookings.
22. Travel Off-Peak
Avoiding peak travel seasons can result in lower fares and more affordable accommodations. Be mindful of school holidays and major events at your destination.
23. Volunteer for Bump Compensation
In cases of overbooked flights, airlines often offer compensation to passengers who volunteer to take a later flight. This can include vouchers or even free tickets. In addition, (Sponsored) Compensair will compensate you for delayed, cancelled or denied flight 🛫 JOIN the Compensation program today and get compensations of up to 60%
24. Know Your Rights
Familiarize yourself with passenger rights and regulations. In some cases, you may be entitled to compensation for delays or cancellations.
25. Book Round-the-World Tickets
If you plan to visit multiple destinations, consider round-the-world tickets, which offer substantial savings compared to individual flights.
26. Explore Error Fares
Error fares occur when airlines or booking websites accidentally publish fares at a significantly lower price than intended. Websites like Secret Flying and Fly4Free specialize in finding and sharing these deals.
27. Consider Credit Card Rewards
Certain credit cards offer travel rewards, such as points or miles, that can be redeemed for flights or travel-related expenses. Research which credit cards align with your travel goals and apply for the one that suits you best.
28. Check for Military, Senior, and Group Discounts
If you're a member of the military, a senior citizen, or traveling as part of a group, inquire about any discounts available. Many airlines offer reduced fares for these categories.
29. Book Refundable Tickets Strategically
Refundable tickets are typically more expensive than non-refundable ones. However, if you anticipate potential changes in your travel plans, booking a refundable ticket might be cost-effective in the long run.
30. Learn to Use Airline Alliances
Major airlines are often part of global alliances, such as the Star Alliance or oneworld. Knowing how to leverage these alliances can lead to cost-effective multi-destination trips.
31. Use Miles and Points Strategically
Earning miles and points is just one part of the equation. Knowing how to use them strategically can maximize their value. Research sweet spots in airline award charts to get the most out of your miles.
32. Consider Hidden-City Ticketing
Hidden-city ticketing involves booking a flight with a layover in your actual destination city. This can sometimes be cheaper than booking a direct flight. However, it's essential to read the terms and conditions as it's often against airline policies.
33. Fly on Low-Cost Carriers
Low-cost carriers often offer significantly cheaper flights than traditional airlines. While they may not provide the same amenities, they are a cost-effective option for budget-conscious travelers.
34. Use Incognito Mode
To avoid dynamic pricing based on your search history, browse for flights in incognito or private browsing mode.
35. Negotiate Baggage Fees
When booking with budget airlines, baggage fees can add up. Negotiate or purchase baggage allowances in advance to save on additional charges at the airport.
36. Leverage Airline Vouchers
If you've been bumped from a flight, received a voucher, or encountered any issues during your journey, use these vouchers on future flights to reduce your costs.
37. Currency Exchange Savings
Sometimes, booking flights in a foreign currency can result in lower prices. Use exchange rate comparison websites to find the best deals.
38. Booking for Multiple Passengers
When booking for multiple passengers, airlines often group the fares. This can sometimes result in a higher price for all tickets. Try booking each passenger separately to potentially save money.
39. Avoid Travel Insurance from Airlines
While travel insurance is essential, purchasing it from airlines is often more expensive. Shop around for the best travel insurance deals.
40. Research Visa and Entry Requirements
Before booking international flights, check visa and entry requirements. Some destinations require a return ticket for entry. Make sure your travel plans align with these regulations.
Final Words: Mastering the Art of Budget Travel
Traveling on half the price of tickets isn't just a pipe dream; it's a reality if you're willing to put in the effort and follow these tips. As you plan your next adventure, remember that patience and flexibility are your best friends when it comes to finding the best deals. With the money saved on airfare, you'll have more to spend on experiences, accommodation, and making lifelong memories.

Artificial Condition, Chapter 6
(Curious what I'm doing here? Read this post! For the link index and a primer on The Murderbot Diaries, read this one!)
In which we get close to some answers.
MB escorts the humans to the private docks. Art found a privately owned craft that seems to be used as a charter, allowing Rami, Maro, and Tapan to leave without identifying themselves. It might be safe enough to take a public shuttle, but MB is paranoid, and this shuttle has an augment pilot as backup for the bot.
As they go to board, Rami asks if MB isn't going with them. It says it still needs to do its research here. Maro asks how they can pay it. MB says they can leave it a note on its social feed, it will find them when it goes back to the transit ring. Tapan is conflicted, tense, and says they can't stay, but can't give up, and their work is so important.
MB says, more forcefully than perhaps necessary, that sometimes you just have to survive the hits and go forward. They all stare at it for a moment, but Maro and Rami nod to each other. Rami says they've started over before.
MB herds them onto the ship, and then makes for the tunnel that should lead to Ganaka Pit. Art says it will mostly be focusing on the shuttle for a while. MB can't quite figure out why it feels so uneasy, besides being near too many humans, without armour or drones, and not even "my Giant Asshole Research Transport"(1) to complain to. And, it failed its last mission, sort of. Alright, the humans are still alive, but they didn't get their data back.(2)
MB gets a transport as far as it can, then spends an hour or so hacking cameras and going into different abandoned tunnels, looking for one that might be connected to Ganaka Pit. As it finds a likely candidate and starts going down it, the feed access cuts out, but it doesn't feel like a suppressor. More like this tunnel is so deep, there are just no boosters near enough to get a signal.
Following the tunnel, it comes to a passenger tube, with power still, though obviously unused for a long time. It checks for security, then activates it, and waits as it travels. Eventually, the tube stops because of a blockage. MB unseals the lock, noticing the signs on the barricade: radiation, falling rock, and toxic biological warnings.(3) It finds a gap, and squeezes through. Onward it goes, into the old installation.
My human parts were experiencing a cold prickling that wasn’t comfortable. This place was creepy. I reminded myself that the terrible thing that had most likely happened here was me. Somehow that didn’t help.(4)
Besides the detritus and the old, damp dust, MB finds the lack of feed access unnerving. It's glad it had Art modify its data port, just in case.
It finds the central hub, but feels no familiarity for the area. The human remains have all long since been removed, but who knows what's been left behind. It goes into the storage rooms, and finds that the SecUnit cubicles are still there. MB's performance reliability drops, and it's frozen to the spot at the sight.
Reminding itself that the SecUnits were too valuable and dangerous to abandon, it slowly opens the ten cubicle doors, finding them all empty. In the end, it's not even sure why it came in here.(5) It finds nothing in the weapons lockers, and heads toward the offices, for data storage.
Finding the feed interface units(6) it thanks human clothes for pockets, something its armour never had, and uses a toolkit borrowed from Art's crew storage to start opening its arm to connect it energy weapon's power to the console's emergency power input. The regular SecSystem files have been wiped, but it finds some cached in MedSystem, a trick MB has used to help make files disappear from company notice.(7)
It skims most of the data, but one conversation catches its interest. Two techs discussing a rogue bit of code, uploaded from onsite, and whether it's malware. The conversation ends mid-word as one tech says she's going to notify the supervisor.
MB wasn't expecting rogue code to be at fault. It had assumed its governor module malfunctioned, but could it really have taken out nine other SecUnits, and all those humans, and any other bots who intervened, by itself?
It saves that conversation to its personal storage, but finds nothing else of interest in the cache. As it leaves, it finds impact markings on the walls, implying quite a confrontation, and wonders if some SecUnits hadn't been affected.
Near the crew quarters it finds four smaller cubicles, for ComfortUnits. The doors are all open already, meaning the ComfortUnits were inside when the emergency hit. MB uses its energy weapon's power again to power the cubicles' emergency data storage. It's meant for error and shutdown information, but it was used, by the ComfortUnits. It recorded the records of communicating with each other.
I stood there for five hours and twenty-three minutes, putting the data fragments together.
The ComfortUnits got a third-party patch, which the techs ordered them to apply despite looking suspicious. The patch was malware, and used the ComfortUnits to jump over and corrupt SecSystem, at which point the SecUnits, bots, drones, "and everything capable of independent motion" had gone violent.
While the mass murder was happening outside, the ComfortUnits were analyzing the malware themselves, and found its true purpose: it was supposed to disrupt the hauler bots, and sabotage the installation, not cause the massacre. They observed that none of the bots were acting in concert, and manually resetting SecSystem to factory default might be their best option.
However, while ComfortUnits are stronger than humans, they're not as strong as SecUnits, with no combat training and no weapons.
One by one the file downloads had stopped.(8) One had signaled that it would try to decoy SecUnit attention away from the others, and three acknowledged. One had heard screams from the control center and diverted there to try to save the humans trapped inside, and two acknowledged. One had stayed at the entrance to a corridor to try to buy time to reach SecSystem, and one acknowledged. One reported reaching SecSystem, then nothing.
MB gets a low power signal of its own, and realizes how long it's been holding the storage active. It unhooks itself and leaves the room, bumping into the doorway.(9) It wonders what arrangement there might have been, if the one who sent the malware paid the damages and bonds, and that company went under, and MB's (former) company thought that was sufficient punishment.
MB goes back to the passenger tube, starts a recharge cycle, and turns on its last interrupted episode of Sanctuary Moon. The tube runs out of power partway, but MB has made it back up to 97% charge, so it runs, even though it takes an hour longer.
One it gets out far enough, feed access resumes, and Art says they have a problem.
=====
(1) Once again, MB claiming people, even constructed intelligences, as its own, but only sideways. (2) And this, this is one of the most telling lines in the book so far. Not just "I took this contract myself, so I can't just abandon them". This is so much subtler than that. It took the job, and got to know, even like the humans. And it feels badly that it couldn't help them achieve their goal. A semi-abstract guilt that it did the job they bought, but not the one it wanted to do for them. (3) Laying it on a little too thick to put almost every warning in the book on this mine. (4) I don't think I'd find that very comforting either, but bless MB for trying. (5) One of the most human things it's done since the beginning of the series, I think. Sometimes you just have to know, regardless of the consequences. (6) Computers, with screens. (7) Callback to the ways it had the humans use MedSystem in book 1 to hide from HubSystem while they analyzed stuff, after its true nature was revealed. Presumably, its knowledge of the trick goes back even further. (8) Their bravery is immeasurable. They were bots. They had no reason to try to help, except the one MB formed after this: they cared. And they were smart enough to use the tools at hand, even if unsuccessfully. (9) I dare say all that information would be a bit disorienting.

Coming soon... the return of the Final Fantasy VIII English-French Translarison!
Well... it has NOT been four years since I last touched this, is all I’m saying.
Okay, so it’s been four years. My, how time flies. But I really want to continue it. I guess I just... recovered my mojo about it?
Anyway, I am currently working on part 25, literally as I am typing this, after finally being able to make sense of how I organized my save files (pro tip: don’t go on a four-years hiatus in the middle of a gaming project) which will see us start the CD 3 content. Oooooh! Really looking forward to it. No promise on when exactly it’ll go up as it does take a lot of time but I’m hoping to post it sometime today or tomorrow.
Also, I figured since it’s been a hot minute, it’d be a good idea to compile every entry so far, so that you and all of your loved ones to whom I’m sure you’ve been sending every update to religiously may have one hub to find them all and refresh their memory.
I also intend to of course update it with every new entry, unless I forget or can’t be arsed. Anyway, with no further ado, click the “see more” bit for the list and see you soon for part 25! Oh, and don’t hesitate to tell me if a link is broken or wrong or what have you.
