POKEMON
Tanjiro Kamado - Part 2
Tumblr media
Tanjiro Kamado is happy that he found someone (his friends and Pokémon) as his new family, even though he still miss his real family.
With his new and last Pokémons, Tanjiro holds the title as Super Elite, one of the strongest Pokémon Trainer.
Despite this, he is still training as a Demon Slayer and still have many duties to eliminate every single man-eating demon. But that doesn't he would forgot his Pokémon, since they are his family.
Gyarados - Male - Water/Flying Type
Tumblr media
GIF di sinnohqueen
IS THAT A DRAGON?!?!?!
His encounter with Gyarados happened in one of the worst scenarios anyone could imagine: a burned village
Gyarados was responsibile and Tanjiro decided to stop him
Tanjiro succeded to catch him, but Gyarados being Gyarados proved to be a difficult Pokémon to train
Gyarados hated to listen and follow every single order from his order, even during a battle (happen against with Inosuke and his Infernape)
Tanjiro asked to Natsuki if Gyarados was a dragon but...
"I'm sorry to disappoint you, but Gyarados is not a dragon nor a Dragon-type, he's actually a Water/Flying-type. People often mistake Gyarados for a dragon just like Charizard. Sooooo, yeeeeaaah. I'm sorry"
Tanjiro obviously didn't care, but he was a little disappointed
Everyone was sick of his behaviour but Tanjiro always defend him and he even saved the Atrocious Pokémon from being attack by a Galvantula
Since then the Atrocious Pokémon decided to give a chance to his trainer and he starts to listen his orders
Gyarados revealed to be a great Pokémon and perfect partner for Tanjiro's performance of his Water Breathing
He becomes very protective towards his trainer
Inosuke once again tried to beat Gyarados, but of course the Atrocious Pokémon gives to the annoying boar a lesson

You're a very clingy Pokémon, you know that? 😅
Haxorus and Tanjiro met when the Kamado boy partecipated to an event that involved to a treasure hunt
Tanjiro saw a group of people trying to catch a shiny Haxorus, but it is hard for them to approach him
Tanjiro decided to enter in the cave without using Pokémon
Tanjiro spoke to Haxorus and the Axe Jaw Pokémon for some reason was comfortable around him
Haxorus decided to join his team
Everyone was impressed that only Tanjiro was able to catch a shiny Pokémon
Since then, Haxorus has been nothing but clingy to Tanjiro, he would even asked to train with him and Decidueye or asking to Corviknight if he could hop on his back with Tanjiro
Tanjiro obviously was too soft to tell him to stop being clingy
Haxorus and Tanjiro got in trouble after they accidentally destroyed Shinobu's work
Shinobu codly scold both Tanjiro and Haxorus (even though she was smiling during this time), the two compromised
Haxorus would stop following Tanjiro like a puppy (he is still clingy but not very much like before), while Tanjiro would try to be very firm
When Tanjiro and his friends went to the Dragon Village, everyone were fascinated by the shiny Haxorus. Tanjiro even battled against Drayden with his Haxorus
Haxorus and Tanjiro win and Drayden admitted that he admired the Kamado's determination and his Haxorus' hard work

A legendary Pokémon!
Tanjiro and Latios made an eye contact and soon the Eon Pokémon, using telepathy, asked to boy to help him find his sister
Tanjiro accepted it and he asked the others to help him with the mission
Soon they found Latias and the two Eons Pokémon decided to join the Kamado's siblings' teams, which they accepted them
Tanjiro knew for the moment they meet Latios is a strong Pokémon and a good brother
Latios communicates with the others with telepathy
One time he challenged Corviknight to a flying race, obviously the Eon Pokémon won
Latios is kind and strong who wants to protect everyone from any danger. He also loves adventures
The Eon Pokémon get along very well with Decidueye, Corviknight and Volcarona
Corviknight is his best friend since both are adventurous and courageous
Sometimes Latios asks his trainer to do a Double battle with his sister Latias and Tanjiro's sister Nezuko
When Natsuki gave a Mega Stone to Tanjiro, he was amazed
"Whoa! Now I understand the power of this magic stone!"

Dragonite - Male - Dragon/Flying Type
Tumblr media
You're a dragon and yet you're so gentle
Tanjiro got his first Pseudo-legendary when he met a Dragonair flying in the sky
Dragonite is very kind and sweet dragon, but he can be very feisty and dangerous if anyone annoy him
Dragonaite joined Tanjiro's team when he decided to be his "Dragon Guardian" (according to the Wise of the village, every Dragon-type Pokémon choose their trainer based on their aura)
Despite being very big, he's a real softie and he loves carrying his friends on his back while he flies
Dragonite and Corviknight (plus Tanjiro's friends' Flying-type Pokémon) are best flying buddies
Rampardos tried to headbutt him, but he was knocked out by a single move
Dragonite and Haxorus, being Dragon-type Pokémon, get along very well
Dragonite loves sweet and spicy food, he also likes kids
When he's angry Dragonite would use his fits and punch whatever he found (he never punch people)
He parteciped in the Clubsplosion Tournament, he almost arrived at the finals until he was defeated by Sanemi
Dragonite loves night rides and stargazing
When Tanjiro brought Dragonite to the Taisho Era, all the kids admired the dragon
POKEBALL: Moon Ball
STRUMENT: Dragon Fang
ABILITY: Inner Focus (Prevents flinching)
NATURE: Jolly
MOVES: Dragon Rush, Dragon Meteor, Thunder, Extreem Speed, Fire Punch, Air Slash
Eevee - Male - Normal Type
Tumblr media
Look Nezuko! Isn't he cute?
Eevee met Tanjiro in an awkward moment that is watcing him while he was picking flowers
Nezuko and Tanjiro were drawn by his cuteness and the boy decided to catch him
Eevee was misjudged ny the others due to his cuteness and Tanjiro never let him battle. So the Evolution Pokémon decided to not listent to his trainer and he curled up in a ball
One day the Evolution Pokémon had had enough and he ran away with tears in his eyes
"Guys you have to go after him and apologize immediately before it's too late! Especially you Tanjiro!"
When Natsuki told them his story about his Eevee (Umbreon) and her biggest regret, it was then that everyone, especially Tanjiro, understood that Eevee really wanted to prove himself so bad and so they go after them
When Tanjiro saw that Eevee is very good at battling, the two made up
Eevee doesn't want to evolve, so Natsuki decides to give him an Everstone, a special stone that make sure that the Pokémon doesn't evolve
Eevee is very strong and determined
He likes when Nezuko brushes his fur
Eevee fought against a Beartic one time

STRUMENT: Everstone
ABILITY: Anticipation (Senses the foe's dangerous moves)
NATURE: Jolly
MOVES: Shadow Ball, Hyper Voice, Protection, Veevee Volley, Bouncy Bubble, Sizzly Slide
Aegiroark - Female - Dark/Steel Type
Tumblr media
You're different from the one of Upper Moon One
When Tanjiro and his friends went to another region, they found out that they can fuse Pokémon, creating their own
Tanjiro, after seeing Upper Moon 1 Kokushibo's Pokémon fusion, decided to do the same
A fusion between Zoroark and Aegislash is very peculiar
From that day Aegiroark became another member of the "Sword Guardians" along with Decidueye and Samurott
Despite his cold and "don't care" expression, Aegislash is very kind and caring
Aegislash acts like a guardian angel to the Kamado siblings
When Tanjiro decided to partecipate to the Kalos' Pokémon League, everyone were shocked to see Aegislash
Aegiroark hates Upper Moon 1 Kokushibo and his Aegiroark
Aegiroark prefers to battle fair and square, if she finds out that his rival has cheated, she would refused to continue to battle
Aegiroark used to have a crush on Giyuu's Greninja, but soon she lost interest in him
Eevee admires Aegiroark very much
POKEBALL: Dark Ball
STRUMENT: Shell Bell
ABILITY: Stance Change (The Pokémon changes form depending on how it battles - from Aegislash)
NATURE: Brave
MOVES:  Night Slash, Sacred Sword , King's Shield, Iron Head, Aerial Ace,  Night Daze

🌍Adventurecore🌎 ~ If you could take your F/O anywhere in real life, where would you take them?
Literally anywhere. I would go anywhere with this man, as long as I could be with him.
🛍️Barbiecore🛍️ ~ Show us your favorite outfit that your F/O has worn!
I have posts about this already lol.
🖕Bastardcore🖕 ~ Are there any “flaws” of your F/O that you find endearing?
Uh. I really shouldn’t like that he’s a man-child, highly manipulative, serial killer with mommy(?) issues, but here we are.
🌳Cabincore🌳 ~ You and your F/O are enjoying a weekend in nature. How do you spend it?
Attempting to camp! Then giving up, renting a cabin, and enjoying nice hikes that end with us in a very pleasant actual bed.
📖Dazecore📖 ~ What would you say is your F/O’s biggest passion (outside of you, of course 🥰)?
Murder? I’m kidding. Guns, knives, cooking. Probably.
😱Expressionism😱 ~ Describe to us exactly how your F/O makes you feel! Or, for a twist, describe how you make your F/O feel! Or do both!
Oh lort its a lot. Tired, frustrated, annoyed, happy, content, safe, comfortable, satisfied. He exhausts me but I wouldn’t trade him for anything.
I couldn’t really speak for Kenshi, except I know he needs me too, and that he is… a bit conflicted, about the nature of our relationship. But then, feelings in general confuse him so.
🖤Femme Fatale🖤 ~ What, in your opinion, is your F/O’s greatest achievement?
Look at all that emotional and character growth!
🔍Film Noir🔍 ~ Are there any questions about your F/O that you’d like to see their source answer?
So many. I’m working on wearing the creator down!
🪨Groundcore🪨 ~ What would your F/O do if you became a worm?
Bruh idefk. Let me ask.
Apparently, per Word of Creator, in character, he would step on me and crush me. Now we know how he really feels lmfao.
📝Hipness Purgatory📝 ~ If your F/O drew you, how would it turn out?
… I actually know nothing of the man’s art skills. I’ll need to investigate. Will report back.
Ok so update! He has no art skills but he does have steady hands. So it would be a vaguely Kimi-ish human shape with a "sorry" speech bubble because she apologizes all the time.
💾Internet Academia💾 ~ How did you discover your F/O or their source?
I stopped being intimidated by Majimemegoro and interacted and then BAM. Shit happened.
🚎Joyride🚎 ~ How would a road trip with your F/O, friends/associates, and you go?
Depends on which friends/associates. But probably not too terribly? Probably? Kenshi loves to drive, Kimi loves to ride. They'll trade aux/Bluetooth control. Lots of pee breaks for Kimi that he'll pretend to be annoyed about. So many snacks. They'll definitely take a rental so she doesn't get crumbs in his car.
🪁Kidcore🪁 ~ Tell us about the earliest memory you can remember with your F/O!
Meeting him at a Tojo Clan party! Incidentally it was my introduction to basically everyone. He was one of a very few that spoke English and the only one not being an asshole to me!
(Childhood Friends AU, we meet when I find him crying in the corner of a park and I drag him home with me! What a cutie!)
🎧Lo-Fi🎧 ~ Let’s say your F/O is up late working on something. How do you support them, or how do you get them to go to bed?
Depends on how focused he is but generally he can be coaxed into bed with cuddles. Otherwise I keep him stocked in smokes, snacks, and water. He handles his own alcohol. I miiiiight bring him coffee. Maybe.
🎮Nintencore🎮 ~ Create a Pokémon team for your F/O!
This one’s tough. Do I make a team I think actually represents him, or one he would have? I’ll try for both. Majimeme can weigh in perhaps. I can say there would be absolutely NO dog types lmfao.
(Should I do a team for Kimi too?)
Team One
Muk - reference to the environmental impact of the factories Sneasel - a sneaky ambush type attacker Murkrow - bearer of misfortune Mimikyu - tell me this isn’t Kadokura in pokemon form. lonely, but watch out! Porygon-Z - science! technology! the future! Garbodor - majimemegoro insists he’s trash so….
Team Two
Sudowoodo - trees! nature! conservation! Ursaring - mountain village vibes, Hokkaido energy Abomasnow - Hokkaido, snow, do I need to explain? Sawsbuck - more nature shit Gothita - he has no idea what this thing is but it’s cute and it makes Mio happy so whatever Pangoro - “Kimberly this feels racist” “hush it markets well”
🐕Petcore🐕 ~ What animal reminds you of your F/O?
He’s known as a Coyote. He often acts a bit like a cat. Is there an intersection to be found there?
🍷Red Academia🍷 ~ What’s your favorite fun-fact about your F/O?
SPOILERS hehe
💤Sleepycore💤 ~ What is it like going to bed with your F/O? How do they sleep?
He’s clingy. Bad nights he takes a ton of pills and good luck waking his ass. Worst nights, night terrors, although those are pretty rare.

Are there ‘mons that help out the assistants, lighthouse keeper, groomer, etc, either that they already worked with or that lived on the island and got attached to? I’ve heard of the ampharos in Johto that powers a lighthouse, and I love seeing all the different ways Pokémon become involved in our lives
Oh damn well everyone helps around here, so I guess I can try to run over a few of them The Labs are a kind of hot-pot. Pari works the front desk, and handles regular healing. She has an Eevee that is very upbeat and curious, and a Happiny who has patience galore. Both help her run errands, greet patients, and comfort those who come in worried or nervous. The computers are home to Dutch, a porygon-Z who we've had since the place opened, he's quite stable, and aids us in finding patients files, mislabeled documents, and generally making sure emails and information is up to date. He's a great aid, we'd be in disarray without him for sure. Dutch also handled translations, so if a pokemon comes in and we need more information, he can jump into a phone and tell us what we need to know, straight from the pokemon's mouth. When it rains, pokemon like Chunk, a poliwhirl, or the stray Appletun who hangs about, will come in and do odd jobs. Theres a pretty friendly out Slakoth who gives advice when she's around, The hoppip are great guides if you get lost or need to be shown to a specific location.
The Gardeners have a whole host of helpers, their own pokemon of course, but Grey's two Blastoise do the vast majority of watering, their cannons fitted with sprinkler heads. Both of them are very friendly, you can pet them if they aren't too busy. If we have to dig, we try to do what we can ourselves, but various ground ad rock types really lend their strength, making work far easier. A kind Gigalith often runs the operation with out staff, helping organise the sheer quantity of smaller pokemon who wish to spend the day in the mud helping. Theres an army of grass types who spend the day collecting, planting and germinating seeds, some are capable of speeding up the growing process, so we can usually get our plants in tip top condition for festivals or events, especially over in the formal gardens where the vast number of our grounds keepers work, making sure the large expanse is pruned, watered, weeded and tended to throughout the year. The lighthouse is full of Joltic, one particulalry large one called Rhonda, who seems to hold a lot of love in the community, and a couple of very handy Vikavolts, these are some of the few electric pokemon we keep on the island, and when it storms, they vacate to underground cave systems to wait it out. When they're happy to do so, they aid with backup generators, emergency power when it goes out, and of course, powering the lighthouse itself when need be, though it is plumbed into the power grid, so they can take time off if they like. The biggest most in charge pokemon around the lighthouse area would be Lee, the variant bronzong we have here. He sounds his bell when tour boats come sailing in, so staff can gather and get ready with time to spare. When he knows he's not needed, he moseys over to the docks to hang around with visitors, a real social butterfly that one, great with new people, very energetic. Teddy runs the groomers, he's as sharp as his scissors, his partner Flaafy has to have the most up to date cuts, they're very good together, visitors really enjoy their energy. He boasts being able to work on even the most unruly clients, and he does so with suave and style. He often has help from a jolly natured Kadabra who took a shine to the grooming lifestyle, she's a real handy pal to have around, if you need an extra set of hands, and her keen mind means she knows what tools and bottles are needed for different clients. Pokemon come and go from this building all the time, but if business is slow, Teddy works on wild pokemon who come in looking for a new style. He appreciates the practice, and thanks to our unusually large roster of residents, he gets to try out a lot of techniques. We compensate him every month based on the amount of wild mons he works with. He also helps us on adoptions days, giving everyone looking for a home, a real makeover, so they have the best chance! The gift shop is mostly filled with trinkets, knickknacks, but all of it is either foraged or grown on the island, or hand crafted by the couple who live and work in the shop. June is the seamstress, adept with fabrics, weaves, jewelry making, anything plush, flamboyant, or textile based and chances are she's good with it. Her partner is a somewhat uppity Gardevoir, who keeps to herself, but is always seen in the shop, stocking shelves, handling goods, or running errands. She's very fussy about how things look, and so the shop floor is often left in her capable hands, things are always neat and tidy because of this, which leaves June to craft behind the counter while her pokemon handles customers. June lives with her girlfriend, Pastie, a potter. Her partner is a Heatmore, and together they throw clay in the back yard, and bake it to make incredibly beautiful pots, vases, cups, plates, you name it. Her pokemon makes the perfect companion, he stokes the fires and maintains a steady even temperature, and his keen nose makes him great at finding clay veins around the island, which we don't mind them digging out and using. Their crafts are excellent, we've commissioned many meter tall plant pots from her,
they decorate the docks, each one a slight play on the Bronzong form, our mascot pokemon, filled with seasonal flowers and shrubs. The pair also have a Delibird, who runs deliveries back to the mainland, they have a thrivign buisness, so they borrow some of our flying types too, depending on what is being shipped out. It it's a big heavy vase, we send a gentle Charizard over to handle the package with care. If June made some Furret draft excluders that need carrying, then perhaps one of our Noctowl or Peliper want to help. The roster chops and changes, but we only let competent pokemon partake, so no goods are dropped or damaged. The cafe is run by a young woman who hails from Alola, she's got a Torracat, who keeps her food and drinks hot if need be, A Komala who was sent to us, it took a liking to her so she adopted it, and now its her mascot, and a Floatzel, who often wears a sandwich board out front to direct hungry patrons over to her. He also helps with his trainers boat, keeping the hull clean and free of debris, making for an expert second mate when they go out on the waves, strong enough to hoist sails and handle tough jobs. The cafe often has delivery services available, if visitors want to climb the mountain, it can take a while, so you can buy your lunch and have it delivered to the top for when you get there, so its still fresh and delicious. This can be done by a number of pokemon, ranging from Cutifly, to Skarmory, and everything in between. The hostess is an open book, so a lot of species are drawn to her.
The cleaners are the lifeblood here, picking up trash, mopping up spills, and making sure visitors get the best experience while on our shores. Many of them appreciate the help of Grimer, who can handle any plumbing blockage, and any spill. Trubbish are a firm favorite here, they keep out plastics down to a minimum. But also Murkrow, clever enough to find rubbish and put it in the bins. Water pokemon sometimes even fish out cans and old discarded nets, and drag them ashore to be disposed of properly. Most pokemon here understand what needs to go in a bin, so no matter the size or type, pokemon always pick up litter if they spot it. It's great, because young kids see it and join in, making it a wonderful lesson learnt, that some folks may forget to teach them.
I could go on and on, we have a huge set of jobs and buildings, but for every human, theres several pokemon who may tag in and help out, these are just the obvious ones that keep the island ticking along. Don't even get me going about the greenhouses, and the pokemon who maintain those with staff. It's a big operation here.

So I did this at the occasion of @prof-peach proposing us to create OCs for her world. I love creating new characters and coming up with stories for them and since I'm also a big fan of her world and her island I grabbed firmly this occasion ^^ Click on "Show more" if you want to hear all of their lore~
Marie is a retired Pokemon Trainer originating from Kanto. She developped a deep fascination about Mega-Evolution during her journey and is known to have accumulated a lot of experience in the practice and subtilities of Mega-Evolution throughout her battles. When she decided that she won't spend her life as a Trainer, she left the battlefield to study the different powers of stones. She spent a few years travelling a lot, driven by her thirst of adventure that made her become a Trainer in the first place. She studied all kinds of stones found on the different regions and the phenomenons they create. Let it be Z-Crystals, Evolution stones, Mega-Stones, Wishing Stars, she's seen and learned about all of them. Once her studies were done, she obtained a liscence authorizing her to open a Stone shop. That's when she decided to finally settle down somewhere, and she chose to open her shop at Johto. She now sells Evolution Stones of all kind and even sometimes Mega-Stones and Key Stones. It can happen that miners who digs up Mega-Stones or Key Stones send them to her, she is paid to refine them and gives them their round most functional form before either sending them to labs or entrusting them to trainers. Though she is very picky and will make sure the said trainers have the experience and the bond necessary with their Pokemon partner for a safe and healthy Mega-Evolution. But she continues her studies in her free time, deeply fascinated by their power. She doesn't work at the Dotaku Island but actually visits there a lot. The place always sparks her thirst for Adventure back and she loves the company. She is often caught talking with Prof.Grey about recent discoveries, showing strange stones that were sent to her or discussing the new types of Mega-Evolutions discovered. She participates to the Annual Battle Contest sometimes to show off a little (you can't blame a former Trainer) and overall enjoys the company and atmosphere of the island. Her Team is composed mostly of her former Training partners.
Markus the Scizor:
Markus is an old battlescarred grandpa Pokemon. He was the second Pokemon Marie ever owned. A grouch at time, he simply hides his tender heart under his thick Silver type armor. He has a very soft spot for baby Pokemons and is the one with the most battle experience. As the only Pokemon of Marie's team who Mega-Evolves, he's trained in that domain a lot. He can hold his Mega form for very extended periods of time and even ended up picking up some of the traits of his Mega form permanently. He is a relentless fighter, often at the cost of a few scars, and is the eldest of the team. Last pick when it comes to the Annual Battle Contest, because he tends to get a little too serious for young trainers who participates, and first pick when it comes to venture dangerous areas with potentially agressive Pokemons.
Phylly the Servine:
Phylly has been Marie's first ever Pokemon. He's accompanied her her entire journey and has been with her since her youngest age. Phylly was originally a silly child nickname Marie used to give him, but it grew on both of them and ended up being his forever name. He's the strongest of the team and knows it. Smug little man, he's always refused to reach the final stage of his evolution and even refused to train at all until Marie found him and Everstone. Better not try and touch it because he's very attached to it and could flip you like a table for even thinking about it. Marie can't quite figure out if it's because he misses his Snivy form or because he's very attached to this one. His leaves ended up growing bigger than average size, allowing him to charge sun-based attacks faster making him a real powerhouse. He's also a real bedbug and loves being taken care of.
Sandra the Garchomp:
Sandra is the lady of the team. She is calm and values her personal space, as well as her appearance, get her scales dirty, and she will throw a real Dragon tantrum at you. Due to digestive problems, she follows a strict diet and can only eats certain types of food. She is Marie's off-road transport, let it be air or water, and loves taking long flights in the desert. She's tried to Mega-Evolve before, but it brought her a lot of discomfort so they never did it again. She isn't quick to trust and tends to remember to overconfident people trying to pet her that she is a big mean dragon (no she's not). Marie kept one of her teeth as a pendant.
Alsha the Tyrantrum:
Alsha is the oddball and the last addition to Marie's team. He was given to her as an egg by a man who used to own a breeding program for fossil Pokemons. He was a real enigma when he hatched, a peculiar color, a smooth skin instead of the normal edged one, almost no fur, extra fingers and weird growths all over his body. After getting examined by a Pokemon Center and then a Professor, it turns out this baby was perfectly healthy and simply had Rampardos genes. Marie was athorized to keep him and he grew into a healthy, slightly smaller than average, Tyrantrum. He's a happy boy with a lot of space to let his personality shine (by shine I mean destroying stuff). He doesn't actually use the growth of his head as his body is not suited to spint head first like Rampardos does, but his jaws will show you that he doesn't need it. He's the tank of the team and usually the first pick for friendly battles like the Annual Battle Contest. He loves everyone and often everyone loves him. Aaaaaand do not fear I'm finished! I hope you enjoyed reading about them, because I sure enjoyed writing about them!

My review of Pokemon SwSh!!!! (or just Shield, cuz it was the version I play, LOL)
Finally, after finishing the game (including the Post game) and fully exploring the region, I think it’s time for me to say what I think of this 8 gen…
I know it’s obvious, but I mention it just in case: This is MY OPINION!!!, if someone disagrees with me its totally valid, I just ask for respect.
ALSO, English is not my first language so I might have certain lack/erros of spelling out there, or I repeat many words, hehe.
It is important to clarify that this review is based on SwSh base, everything that refers to DLC will NOT be included here, my opinion of the game is already done, the rest is extra content.
I wanted to give this review a more ‘’silly’’ tone, since giving negative opinions on the internet can be quite delicate and I wanted to relax the mood. Do not take this seriously, I still have my CONS with the game, but it is still genuinely enjoyable, which for me is the most important thing in a game.  I will talk about everything in general, so I will try to summarize certain points.
LET’S GO!!!
NEW FEATURES
Poke Camp, Curry Dex, Boxes and more
It’s like a dream come true for me, visiting other camps, seeing my whole party next to each other in the screen playing, discussing, running, is something really magical helps, me connect with them and know their personalities better, although I admit that I miss petting them lol and the minigames like in Gen 6. I also really liked the concept of curry as an alternative way to cure your Pokémon maybe I just wish there was a simpler way to know how to create new recipes (ALSO TMs).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Access to boxes anywhere is wonderful especially when you are breeding, just like, changing the name of trade Pokémon and the move reminder.
Rotomphone
It is not used as much as a phone, more than in the post Game (I can be wrong tho) but it serves as Dex and that’s what’s important really, the new feature is that now it includes the bicycle, that can ride both on land and water and in my opinion it is a degradation of what the concept of  “Poke Ride” was, but as I said before, it fulfill the function it should.
Trainer Cards
The concept of being able to share and customize them with other players is super entertaining, although it is a bit annoying that you always have to make a new code for each small modification. As for the cards of the main characters of the game, I will talk with a little more detail later.
Tumblr media
Dynamax
Tumblr media
At the beginning it was fun and exciting, but in the end it just became a gimmick that sometimes I had to use by obligation in raids. It is not as epic as the Megas and does not have the weight of the lore and cultural/regional connection like the Z-moves.
The Giga forms, although some are great, and I am happy that they gave Pokémon like Garbodor love, I also think that there were many missed opportunities, starting with the starters of the region or in giving forms to Pokémon that in previous generations already had like Gengar and Charizard.
Raids
They are incredibly fun, it is an activity that you can spend hours and hours enjoying, especially with friends but if we talk about NPCs… OOF, I understand that the purpose of Pokemon is that we all make friends and work as a team, but DAMN, if it is stressful when you lose a raid with 3 friends and an NPC, because the Pokémon only killed the NPC, it is almost impossible to defeat a 5 star raid with only NPCs, and as I said before I understand why they do them weaker, but there are some that are completely useless, I see you Martin Solrock lol.
Poke Jobs and Rotom Rally
I  will be honest, I have not used these features enough to have a solid judgment on these lol.
CHARACTERS
Magnolia
OK, I need to get this off my chest: I am incredibly disappointed and sad with this character, especially since she is/was our first old female professor, to be simply pulled into forgettable land.
Tumblr media
It started pretty well, but then it just disappeared until almost the end of the game to give the role of professor to Sonia … REALLY ?! I hate to say this, but she felt more like a device to give character development to Sonia, when she could have been used in scenes with Rose or repeatedly going into further detail about Dynamax for the MC (you know because she’s an expert about that topic…), before give the paper to Sonia. At least I am grateful that I had a little more screen time in the post game, although not even as a professor.
Sonia
Tumblr media
Thank you Sonia, for allowing us to discover and know the story with you, honestly she was the one who saved mostly my interest in the story.
But speaking of the character, I like her, I like her dedication to get out of the shadow of Leon’s achievement and to show her grandmother that she is capable, which she finally manages to fulfill, she still has certain insecurities, but that makes her more human, she’s the real professor (I’m still salty for Magnolia tho)
Leon
Tumblr media
Everyone knows from the posts on my PT on Twitter that I constantly bullying the character, but I really like him a lot, he is an excellent guide/brother through the game, charismatic, EXTRA, but very involved in his role as champion, in the sense that he is always aware of what is going on and helping in the process, in addition to being strong (one of the most difficult battles in the game). Definitely among my fav champions with Cynthia, Steven and Kukui (I count him as champion, SU!)
Gym Leaders
Tumblr media
I love them, their designs, personalities, the animations, they are all incredibly memorable, my favorites are Opal, Kabu and Piers.
But even so, I wish I had more to go on besides the lore on the back of their cards and their battle animations, I would have liked to see them more integrated in the story, and I feel that it lack a little more interaction with some of them, especially Allister and Melony in my case, but at least the trainer cards were a good addition to know them a little more, outside of being a Gym Leader.
RIVALS
OK, I’m prepared for everyone to hate me, *sigh*:
I… I DONT LIKE BEDE AND MARNIE THAT MUCH?… I mean, I don’t hate them, and they are both far from being the worst rivals, but I did expect a little more from both…
Tumblr media
Bede
Tumblr media
I am one of the few of the fandom that does not like rivals flat jerks, because for me, that is not a character but rather  a trait.
But I wanted to give it a try, and when I was just beginning to gain interest in him, they force his backstory in my face… And as I said, I like trainer cards…but more in characters, like G.leaders because these are characters that we don’t see much around the trip, but in the case of rivals, that appear several times and develop in the story, I personally like to get to know them little by little, discover their story and understand them in the course, here I felt it more as an excuse for me, to feel bad for him, especially at the moment he gives you his card.
His relationship with Rose is not explored enough imo.
And a complete turn-around that happens offscreen, like no joke, the MC literally didn’t see any of it, he just disappears after the Opal scene (but to give him credit, that scene is one of my favorites in the game).
Tumblr media
But you know, I understood that he was just a lost boy, and I’m happy that he found a better place, and I admire his effort to want to change, so in the end I ended up liking him a little more.
Tumblr media
Marnie
Marnie is interesting, because although I agree with many people that she would have benefited from having more screen time, I consider that a good character does not need all the screen time in the world, is about what but what they do with it, and the problem I have with her is that her time was not well spent.
I like her dream and I really like her relationship with her brother, however there was no moment when I really connected with her. I feel partly, that I don’t know her character, like her various personality facets.
Untapped opportunities: fight with her more times or with her…would have helped the character a lot imo.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hop
Hop is the best rival of the three hands down, his trainer card contains the right and necessary information to make us have an interest in the character, but also the story lets us know him more: a competitive boy, but who has insecurities, fears of failure, that is reflected not only by the dialogue but also in his Pokemon team (no really, it broke my heart when I realized that he didn’t have his Wooloo in his team), that he is frustrated and suffers, but he gets up, discovers other tastes and with these finds a new path, ugh perfect, I adore him.
Tumblr media
Forcing the player to defeat him is torture, it is like defeating Hau in USUM and Wally in ORAS breaks my heart.
Rose
In short: ok character, decent /meh antagonist, and a horrible villain.
Like the climax of the story, Rose is forced in the end to be the villain, when he worked best as an antagonist, his plan makes no sense, his battle is disappointing, although his battle theme is awesome, but it just does not fit the character, the plan, nor the situation at all.
Tumblr media
But the character has a certain charisma, especially in his ‘’suit especially in his incognito suit.”
Oleana
Interesting character, with a potential backstory, with motives and characterization, who is underused in the story * sigh *… I LIKE HER THO
Tumblr media
Overall, I would have liked to see much more of the relationship between Rose, Oleana and Bede, I think it would have benefited the 3 characters…
Team Yell
They are … ok, it is cool to have a team that is not villain, that bother the player from time to time even for good reasons, I admire his dedication and loyalty.
Tumblr media
THE REGION
The region is aesthetically beautiful, the details, the structure, the contrast for example between Hammerlocke and Ballonlea, and despite not living in the UK or having had the opportunity to travel to the destination, according to my friends the region in which the games are based is very well related, which I think is excellent. However, despite the visual beauty, when it comes to routes and exploration it feels a bit limited, there are really some towns, where the most interesting thing to do is complete the Gym, there are almost no reasons to return to the previous town after having passed them…
Tumblr media
But, what I missed the most was the lack of exploration, discovery, the charm of the NPCs…
Many have told me: what about the Wild Area? Because of the ability to explore in an open area, it is probably the best in the franchise! and yes, the Wild Area is a very attractive part of these games (I will talk a little bit about this, later), but as I said, everything that is considered part of the capacity of the new console, I will not take it into account, it is unfair, because a portable console can NOT stand a concept such as the Wild Area although the developers had the idea before, not at least at SwSh scale.
And as I said before and again, the T.Cards are an incredible idea, but for me NOTHING compares to getting to know the characters through the world, dialogue, interaction… I’m going to use pokemon Moon as an example to make me understand better: (because it was the last main pokemon game I played before SwSh and that’s why I have it more fresh lol) Where you can enter Olivia’s shop, buy jewelry and visit her room and discover that she is a desperate single woman, or enter Gladion’s room and talk to the receptionist and that she tells you part of his story, that kind of things…
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Let’s see for example Melony, we know she has more children besides Gordie, but only for concept art, and yes, probably do unique models would take a while, but I honestly wouldn’t have be bothered  if they use generic NPCS, they did it with Lana’s sisters, then the anime can dedicated to giving them unique designs.
Tumblr media
Speaking of NPCs (mainly of those inside the houses), many lost the charm and authenticity they had… I mean, where is the lady who told us the story of her husband’s accident or the men of the coffee shop, who every time he prepares us a drink told us the story of where such a drink came from, ect… the NPCS on that side are boring…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
EXCEPT BALL GUY, he / she is awesome!
Tumblr media
I know this look like extra or unimportant things, but these little details really give life to the region, personality to characters that are secondary, it makes everything feel more united and also makes the main characters feel more inside the world, and honestly that is why on this hand, some cities felt empty for me…
But the other hand, I really liked what they did with the NPCs fans, see how the number increasing every time the MC wins a gym battle, makes the trip to become a champion feel more rewarding, It really helps you feel like a true champion when you got it.
Tumblr media
Other examples like the girl NPC who is going to support  you in the Gyms while their pokemon is evolving, or how the NPCS react and change their dialogue corresponding to what is happening… beautiful, for this part the worldbulding is 10/10.
Tumblr media
The wild Area
Tumblr media
Probably the closest we have for now of an open space area in a Pokemon game, I have to admit that I get lost at least 1 half an hour trying to find the next destination (I understand you Leon), it was hilarious lol, at the beginning of the game it turns out to be a fairly limited area, and you really can enjoy it in its entirety when you finish the main story, but I don’t see so much trouble with that, since it’s partly the point, for balance. In general, it is a fantastic idea although I feel that it is necessary to polish it in certain parts, and NO, I don’t mean THE TREE, but I don’t want to be so hard on GF at this moment, because is the first time they experiment with such concept…
Pokemon and Music
I put these two together because they both share a very curious characteristic: EXPERIMENTAL.
The pokedex is super solid, I love how these last generations, GF is doing its homework and is striving to make the pokemon belong to the region, as for animals, myths, culture…muah I LOVE IT, BRAVO.
Tumblr media
For me a good OST movie or video game not only has to be for the piece n yes, but how it is composed to accompany the events that occur on the screen, how it adapts and fits a certain scene of the story or character, and although I admit that in general it is not my favorite compared to other gens, there are tracks that have become part of my favorites:
Tumblr media
The crowd, the screams, the build up as you gradually approach the last pokemon, ugh. Dynamax is cool and everything, but THIS is the basis for me, of why these battles feel so energetic and exciting.
Tumblr media
That mystical atmosphere that catches you, is beautiful but at the same time mysterious, and perhaps many disagree with me, but the addition of the howls of the legendaries… I love it.
STORY
I think the game started extremely well, the introduction to the characters, the exploration, the introduction to the starters, the mystery of the legendary, everything is on track to me to enjoy this adventure to the fullest, but later I felt like it began to fall.
I understand that this is Pokémon and sometimes Pokémon does not need a complex story to make it enjoyable, as long as it makes sense and is entertaining, the problem I have mainly with the story is how they constantly get you out of it. I understand the concept they wanted to do: to take a more realistic point of view, in which adults take responsibility or in this case the champion and that later when you become champion you now can do what the champion did, and I like this concept, but the phrase of “you focus on the gym, we take care of the problems ” they say and they repeat it several times in the game like, I understood the first time!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Indirectly I felt like they were trying to took me out, and in consequence I lost interest in the story of the game, if it hadn’t been because Sonia bothered to explain to me the lore and a little of what was happening.
It’s more like “tell us” and not “show us”
Tumblr media
and that’s the risk of this concept: you play as a main character, because you want to be a main character or share the role.
The climax feels incredibly forced and confusing, I felt that there was no build out, almost no foreshadowing for what was happening at the moment, everything comes out of nowhere, and thats why, I started making Okami jokes with Eternatus, because I don’t felt that emotion of the ‘’Climax’’.
Tumblr media
Definitely in the part where the game shine was in the gym Challenge, as I said before, the gyms, the leaders, the atmosphere within them, the scale, the music that changing every time, until reaching the final pokémon, the challenges that we have to do before, the fans, becoming the champion, all this really is the identity of the game.
Tumblr media
Pokémon returned to its roots, where this story is the story of us again, and becoming the champion here is everything, it is one of the most exciting and most satisfying Gym challenge in all generations with gyms.
Tumblr media
ADDITIONAL
Here I want to give opinions according to the experiences I had with certain things within the game, which I think are quite PERSONAL, because each person plays different Pokémon, by the team of Pokémon, because he decided to level up more or stay at a lower level or how you decided to follow the story of the game.
Difficulty
Decent, by the standards of Pokemon of course, I try not to leveling to much, and if I do, there are maximum 3 levels and only one pokemon… So, gyms were easy in general, perhaps a pair that were difficult (Allister and Melony), but I never did black screen as in other games, but definitely the most difficult battle in the game is Leon, which I think is appropriate.
Online
Its horrible lol, There were not only once but several times in which I lasted like 1 hour trying to connect with a person, it is ridiculous. The signal falling every so often. But in general the biggest problem I have is connecting with very specific people, not even with the infamous Festival Plaza had so many problems.
Gameplay / Pacing
It is normal the same as always which is fine, some drop of frames out there in certain scenes but nothing serious, some cuts and lack of scenarios / designs that if you should in when they took me a little at the time, but absolutely nothing compared as the haters make it look, the game is still incredibly enjoyable, and it can be played perfectly.
The pacing started pretty well/decently, but from the fourth gym onwards, everything became very very fast, and not to mention the climax and the Pokemon League, honestly all this last arc felt super stuck….
So my opinion in general is: I enjoy the game like any other Pokémon game, it has its entity, it has new and interesting things that I would like it to expand more in future generations and it has personality. Is it my favorite game or my favorite generation? No, I definitely enjoyed other generations more, there were many missed opportunities that they could take more advantage, and I feel bad for GF for making them release this game for this year and these dates, because unfortunately some cuts are very noticeable. But the generation just starting ,so we will have to wait and see what we have for the future. For now, Thanks Pokémon SwSh, for another adventure…

Q&A with Purin
Starting off our eleven-day Linked♡Hearts interview series, we have a get-to-know-you conversation with Purin, the baby princess (wait, no, PURINcess!) of the group.
Tumblr media
♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡
Introduce yourself! Who are you and where are you from?
Hello! My stage name is Purin, I'm 18 and I'm from Nova Scotia!
When and how did you discover idols? How long have you been a fan, and why?
I've known about idols since 2012 after hearing AKB48's Sugar Rush on the Wreck-it Ralph soundtrack and Momoiro Clover Z's Mite Mite Kocchichi in Pokemon Best Wishes, but it was around 2015 that I really decided to get into them after seeing Angerme cover Mahoutsukai Sally (cus they appealed to my love of old magical girl shows).
What is your favorite group? Your oshimen? Why?
Recently my favorite group is Beyooooonds, but I think that as a whole my heart belongs to Morning Musume, since they were the first group I got really curious about digging into the history of, and I still follow them the most. My kamioshi is Michishige Sayumi for a plethora of reasons, but mainly because she inspires me to be confident in myself!
What made you want to be a net idol?
Part of me getting into idols in itself was my desire to BE one! I would watch clips and episodes of AKBingo and Hello Morning on YouTube and fantasize about how much I wanted to be in a girl group. Obviously being a net idol is the next best (and more accessible) thing! Though it might be better since I don't have to follow any contracts lol.
What are your goals in Linked♡Hearts?
It probably sounds cheesy, but I really want to make people happy the way idols make me happy! As long as we get even a few fans, the true goal I have in the group will be met <3
What about Linked♡Hearts are you excited to try?
The thing I'm most excited to try is covering all sorts of songs! I've recently been trying to step out of my comfort zone, and I'm excited to try and do solos and subunit songs!
Do you believe in astrology? Why/why not?
I know it isn't for everyone, but I think astrology is real for me. The only proof I needed was my chart reading me to filth. I'm also a virgo sun AND virgo moon, so I'm definitely that bitch.
What is your favorite local food your region is known for?
My favorite local food my region is known for is garlic fingers!!! I couldn't live without em. Other Atlantic Canada treasures include donairs and moon mist ice cream!
What’s your favorite video game series?
I love basically every Nintendo series, but Pokemon holds a special spot in my heart. I even chose my stage name after the japanese name of my favorite Pokemon, Jigglypuff!
Who’s your favorite fictional character?
Choosing a favorite fictional character is hard, but I think possibly the most influential character for me is probably Nico Yazawa from Love Live! She may just seem like the Nico Nico Nii girl, but she's surprisingly deep, I swear. Plus I owe a lot to the series (but mostly her) for getting me into idols.
What are some of your favorite YouTube channels?
I watch a lot of video essays (often about topics I don't even care about) and lots of other assorted content, but I think in the end the gaming YouTubers I've watched for years are still my favorites. I specifically really like Chuggaaconroy and Vinny Vinesauce, they make for great entertainment and background noise while I'm drawing.

Pokemon... We need to talk.
Tumblr media
((Hee ho dood! Prinnyfrost reporting for duty! So, remember in my previous post where I mentioned that the only way I would play Sword and Shield is if one of my brothers end up getting the game for me because I refuse to spend a penny of my own pocket on it and not to be surprised if that was the case?
Tumblr media
Yeah that happened. Earlier this month, one of my older brothers decided to get the games for both me and him mainly because it’s been many years since we last actually played one together and now would be the chance to do so again since we both have a Switch. Fair enough I suppose. After all the last time we actually played together like this was on the DS.
Tumblr media
As in the original DS...
Tumblr media
with Digimon!
Tumblr media
I was still reluctant to play the game despite that due to a mix of the controversy of this gen’s games as well as loosing interest with the series as a whole, but if you knew my brother as long as I have, you’d know that it’s a tad difficult after he’s set his mind on things like this, especially since I don’t play with him often in general because I’m a salty little shit. Though now that I have played for quite some time, I feel ready to talk about what I think about it and it’s...
Tumblr media
just okay overall I suppose. There are things I like about it and things I don’t like. I can’t really say I’m disappointed because I didn’t really have many expectations to begin with, but at the same time I can’t really say it’s a breath of fresh air either after years of playing other main series Pokemon games.
Tumblr media
I got more excitement out of Let’s Go Eevee than this game, though to be fair it was mainly out of pure nostalgia because it’s a remake of Pokemon Yellow, the very first Pokemon game I’ve ever played back when I was a kid. Then again, I guess the simple fact that it managed to do so where I was happy for actually spending my own money on getting it makes it more of a success. Not that much though, since it has its own flaws, but you get the idea.
Tumblr media
Before I go into everything I’m not fond of (and trust me, there’s quite a bit), let’s start off with everything I actually enjoyed about Sword and Shield.
Tumblr media
I am sort of fond of the wild area. Looking at it kinda gives me Breath of the Wild vibes (and despite on how much I’m personally not all that fond of the game, that is a compliment, trust me). It’s a nice little open area to catch Pokemon at your leisure and it just looks damn beautiful to me, though I do wish there weren’t so many specific pokemon that you can only catch in this area in only specific sections and only specific weather conditions,
Tumblr media
I’m looking at you Clefairy.
Tumblr media
I also like the designs of the new Gigantamax forms. They all look pretty interesting and having some of the moves be changed to be a bit more unique depending on the form is interesting, but that’s all I can say about it since Dynamax as a whole is pretty much just the trainer going
Tumblr media
...and that’s it. No type changes and like I said, the more unique skills are barely that unique at all, especially compared to certain Z-Moves that only certain Pokemon can do. It’s an alright addition to the series, but I won’t really consider it a replacement for mega evolution or Z-Moves.
Tumblr media
I do like how the title for the championship became more of a contest between trainers. I mean it was already a bit like that before, but not quite as emphasized as it is here. It was actually exciting, hearing the crowed roar in the stadium outside of the actual Pokemon Stadium games. It’s been quite a while since I felt this amped up on my way to facing the champion in a Pokemon game, probably since SoulSilver.
Tumblr media
Finally, as for the characters, they’re alright. Some I liked like Nessa, Marnie, Bede, Piers, Sonia, Leon, Allister, Oleana, and even Team Yell to some degree. Yeah, while I don’t find them nearly as entertaining as Team Skull, I do like the fact that Nintendo kinda knows that their baddie teams haven’t been all that threatening lately, so they don’t really bother in this game. Just make them a bunch of people from a town cheering on someone in hopes of getting a better life as a result. That’s pretty neat. Unfortunately, I can’t really say the same for everyone though. I’m not all that fond of Hop, the rival of the game. I don’t outright hate him, unlike my brother. I do like that despite him being the nice rival, he’s still full of himself, so sure that he’ll be the next in line to become champion after his brother Leon and thinks we’re the second banana on this journey. I’ll admit, that did give me an urge to kick his ass, show him who’s the real star of the show, but aside from that he wasn’t that interesting to me. I personally would’ve preferred either Marnie or Bede as a rival over him, but that’s just me.
Tumblr media
Chairman Rose started off interesting to me at first, but that heel turn near the end just made me sigh. I had a feeling it was going to happen when I first saw him, but I thought “nah, it couldn’t be.” What really irritates me about it isn’t how he plans on using the “darkest day” to solve a crisis he sees coming in the future. After all, Jin Kazama kinda did the same in Tekken 6, but the fact that he was so impatient to get started on it. Like Leon said, he could’ve just waited another day after the tournament to help reduce the lives that might’ve been loss from this. It’s not like he had to carry out his plan on that specific day or wait a whole bunch more years or something, but no. Let’s risk the lives of many people right now in order to save the city from the potential energy crisis that’s estimated to occur many future generations from now. That and after you defeat him, he’s all like “eh, it’s all good. Go clean up my mess.”
Tumblr media
Then there are these two annoying brothers that come bug everyone after you beat the champion. My brother hates them and so do I. A pair of annoying snooty wealthy trainers that says “well well well” too much that think they can get anyway with anything.
Tumblr media
Seriously, just looking at these two makes me miss the Paradox Brothers from Yu-Gi-Oh!.
Tumblr media
And now here come the things that I’m not particularly fond of. And no,before anyone says it, it’s not them removing half of the Pokedex...initially. If anything, having less pokemon makes it easier to fill up,
Tumblr media
though I am still pissed off that the dratini line are among the Pokemon that were removed. No there are other things in this game that I couldn’t quite get over while playing.
Tumblr media
One of which is a constant complaint I hear when it comes to not just this, but also other recent Pokemon games, which is the absurd amount of handholding.
Tumblr media
Look, I don’t consider myself a hardcore gamer. Far from it actually. I’m not against the ideas of games having options to make things less difficult for newcomers who want to play and enjoy it their first time. At the same time though, my personal pet peeve for games are those that fail to make these changes just that, optional.
Tumblr media
In the past, the experience share can be turned on and off if you felt like your party is leveling up too quick and you’re becoming overpowered as you progress. This is something that may help provide more of a challenge for players that seek them. This is a change, in my opinion, is welcomed for the series as it’s an optional easy mode for those wanting to get into Pokemon, but feel they should ease into things first. Also it makes grinding less tedious to deal with in post game. In games like Sword and Sheild; however the feature for pokemon getting shared experience is already implemented and there’s no way to turn it off.
Tumblr media
As a result, I pretty much breezed through the game without too much issue except for raid battles later on in the game and the final battle with the champion Leon. I even practically destroyed my brother on our first battle together because of our party’s level differences.
Tumblr media
Now I know what someone might bring up, the fact that the system in both Digimon Cyber Sleuth games make things arguably even easier since not only is the experience shared throughout the whole party, but you can you carry more digimon in your party than in pokemon, and the fact that there are items in the game as well as digimon with unique abilities that increase the amount of experience you get, which can all be stacked on each other.
Tumblr media
Which is true. I even stated before that I managed to max out all of my digimon in far less time in my grindfest when compared to any pokemon game; however that doesn’t mean that the whole game was easy. After all, that grindfest I did happened in post game. During the game, there were still quite a few battles I ended up struggling with despite the higher earned experience and that’s down to a few reasons.
Tumblr media
1. While you can potentially hold up to 11 Digimon in cybersleuth, each digimon takes up a certain amount of space when you include them in your party, and the higher ranking they become, the more space they take up. You can’t start the game right away with 11 mega leveled digimon since the only way to increase your party storage is to get items that specifically does so which can be found in areas you unlock as you progress. 2. Even if you do get your digimon to the required level to digivolve, chances are, it’s not the only requirement to fulfill. Certain stats such as friendliness, HP, strength, ect also need to be at a certain area before digivolving, which the digimon may not be able to once it reaches its max level, thus having to de-digivolve into a previous form in order to get stronger. 3. Even when your digimon have fulfill the requirements, in terms of this game at least, none of the digimon can digivolve straight away. You have to go inside this game’s version of the Velvet Room and select the option for your digimon to evolve. Even then, as stated before, you have to make sure there’s enough room in your party to include your digimon after it evolves, otherwise you’ll have no choice but to either bring it back to the previous form after all that work, or leave it in your farm or digibank until there’s more room made.
These reasons help balance out the easy as hell grinding to make sure the game isn’t far too easy for those seeking a challenge. It may not be a perfect setup, but it is a system I personally prefer over what Pokemon has now.
Tumblr media
Speaking of the raid battles, I don’t have much to complain about here, except for one factor that ruins it for me. If you’re playing offline by yourself, good luck with these battles. It starts out alright, not too much trouble, but once you start going against the more powerful Pokemon, you’d better hope you have a friend to play with if you want to win these raids, because the AI here is pretty much pathetic. Their pokemon are so weak that they pretty much die in one hit unless they have a focus sash. Not to mention they sometimes bring pokemon that are completely weak or useless against the raid boss you’re going against. I recall one time when I was going against a Frillish and at least 2 of my party members have water types, one of them only had water type skills as well. I ended up failing it the first time because Frillish heals from every water attack it took, so no matter how much damage I was doing to it, at least one of my allies brought its heath back up. It may not seem like that big a deal at first, but once you die 4 times, and I don’t mean just you. Everyone share 4 lives and once you die, you wait a turn to get revived. Once you die 4 times, you’ve lost the raid battle and have to start over again, which is easy to do since your AI partners will more than likely get one-shotted and certain raid bosses can attack twice as well as use skills that hits everybody. I had to retry catching a gigantamaxed laprys so many times because of this that once my brother finally came home from work, I made him play the game with me so I won’t risk losing in 1 or 2 turns again.
Tumblr media
Also, the TRs. Who the fuck though this was a good idea? Bringing back the skill learning items that break after only 1 use and can only be obtained from gathering wattages or grinding in raids. Not only that, but only certain skills can only be obtained depending on what type of Pokemon you fight against during said raids. I got so many Tri-Attacks that I have no idea what to do with them while at the same time, moves like flare blitz, I’ve been holding onto for just the right Pokemon, because I have no idea when I’ll ever get one again. That doesn’t make the game fun, it makes grinding more of a chore.
Tumblr media
I was among the people that were against the idea of bringing the damn bike back instead of riding around on our Pokemon like in both Sun and Moon and Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee. What the hell made bring back one-use only items that certain pokemon can only learn certain skills by using these things was also a good idea?!
Tumblr media
Oh yeah that’s right, Nintendo or at least the Pokemon Company decided to turn the Pokemon games into a big mystery box from now on, with certain features being either added or removed with each release.
Tumblr media
It’s kind of like what Jim Sterling said. The Pokemon business model has always been shit, ever since arguably Red and Blue, which even I have pointed out the issues in having multiple versions of one game when I made my “Everything Wrong With Pokemon: Yellow Version” parody sometime back. It’s only just recently that fans have been pushed to their breaking point to such a degree with the DLC being implemented with Pokemon that were previously removed.
Tumblr media
Which brings me to...probably the most unforgivable thing about the game...the DLC. For those of you who still want to “catch ‘em all” like in Pokemon’s tagline, you may have to dish out some more cash in order to fill up your pokedex. And even then, if it’s like previous generations, the reward for doing so is probably going to be shit anyway, with either a certificate stating that you actually managed to do it, or an item that increases the odds of finding a shiny. Yeah, it just increases the odds, not guarantee. Anyway, for those who still want to get every single Pokemon available in the game, just be prepared to apologize to your wallet. You see on top of paying $60 just to play one version of the game or $120 to play with your brother like we did, or play through both versions of the game yourself to make sure you get all of the Pokemon, you’re still going to have to get the upcoming expansion pass which include Gigantamaxed forms of the 3 starts for this region as well as at least some of the pokemon that weren’t in the game originally, and chances are since this is Pokemon we’re talking about, some of the pokemon can only be found in one of the expansions while others can be found in the other version. I could be wrong, but I don’t think they deserve the benefit of the doubt at this point, which would cost at least $30 right now. I’m not sure if it’s $30 for both or buy one now and spend another 30 for the next one since it is a 2 parter, but that’s still at least $15 each.
Tumblr media
Plus, with the newly announced Pokemon home it’s another $15 dollars to pay for the whole year, unlike the Pokemon Bank which was only $5 a year and the Nintendo Switch Online service in order to play online which is $20 a year.
Tumblr media
And of course, let’s not forget the Pokeball Plus that you have to buy in order to get Mew if you don’t already have one when you got Let’s Go Pikachu/Eevee, which was initially about $50-$60 if I recall. Yes, you can use it as a controller once you got it, but I’m not sure if it’s compatible with anything other than Pokemon. Even if I’m wrong, I doubt anyone would pay for it outside of simply getting Mew
Tumblr media
and the fact that Pokemon had something like it back during Heartgold and Soulsilver that came free with every copy when it first came out, so this seems really scummy to me by comparison.
Tumblr media
My brother has pointed out that not everyone has to get the DLC and people can still get Pokemon featured via trading. Which I guess is true, but it’s still going to be difficult for those who don’t have friends playing the game to help them fill out their pokedex. Not everyone is going to help you trade pokemon in order to simply evolve the ones that can only do so by being traded or get legendaries that are exclusive to one version of the game and you can only get one of. Yeah there are surprise trades, but those are randomized. You still have to get lucky that someone else who traded a pokemon using this feature will end up giving you what you want. I’ll admit, I did managed to somehow get a freakin’ Zekrom using this feature in one of the previous titles, but I assure you that it’s a very rare opportunity.
Tumblr media
Even if we did bring back the original GTS system, there’s always going to be quite a few assholes wanting to get low leveled shiny legendary pokemon in exchange for just a normal regular Pokemon that you can’t get in your version of the game like a mawile or something.
Tumblr media
Not to mention even after getting the new slowpoke that came out in the new update sometime ago, you can’t even evolve it until you get an item that’s exclusive only to the DLC! That is downright shady as hell and now I feel bad for my brother buying me this just so we can finally play together in a Pokemon game after all these years.
Tumblr media
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t outright hate this game. Like I said earlier, it’s fine. It has its moments. Overall it is indeed another Pokemon game, but maybe that’s ultimately it’s main issue. The simple fact that overall when you consider everything, it’s JUST another Pokemon game, nothing more and nothing less. But hey, they’re still probably going to make money off of it anyway, so what do I know?))

Rewatched SM101 and managed to focus on XYZ instrumental scene. ASJFHgjhfsfsh silly me.
God this ep was so good too. The atmosphere, the music, the dialogue, Satoshi being the ever positive soul, but showing his vulnerability as well. Or well, might be my english failing me right now to find the right word, but after Dia tells Satoshi that he’s in alternative universe, possibly future as well(? need subs to confirm), we have this short scene where Satoshi just stares at a water pool, remembering his classmates. The Alola Squad.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then Dia asks if he’s homesick. Satoshi denies it, says he’s just remembering everyone at Pokemon School. Dia responding that it’s called homesick. :D Then Satoshi has this such a sweet dialogue, how he adores being at Pokemon School, adores everyone at there (talks about fun times, lots of laughs and lots of battles). Aww. Seeing Satoshi in such a mood was both sad yet so... amazing? Satoshi hasn’t dematured at all. Alola just happens to have this cheerful atmosphere that makes Satoshi act so happy and carefree. He’s not full of that in this Ultra Ruins Alola. Ofc, he does end up being a positive soul, but he does know when to be serious and focus on the battle. He came up with the idea to get Guzzlord/Akuziking back in the Ultra Hole it came from, so that shows Satoshi is still very good at strats. Maybe he got the inspiration from the story of how Dia and Zeraora met. (If I understood correctly, Dia never caught Zeraora, they’re just working together. But Satoshi ends up telling them after some training battle that the two are such partners. Awww.)
The training battle was pretty sweet btw! Real nice animation from Iwane and just the way Satoshi encourages Dia and Zeraora to train as partners is so sweet. Thou, the highlight that got me very curious is the following scene.
Tumblr media
Zeraora was using its Quick Attack, a very fast-paced one. Then, it shows a scene where we can see white lines of Zeraora, and then Satoshi and Pikachu’s eyes align, for the perfect timing shot of Thunderbolt. This gave me such a huuuge Satoshi Gekkouga vibe. But y’know. Satoshi and Pikachu are very much in sync, have always been. They don’t need bond phenomenom to do this :D But still. God this had me all ‘woooow’.
And when Dia tells Satoshi to run later on when the two tried to send Guzzlord back into the Ultra Hole that was growing smaller and smaller every second but failed in doing that, things looking ever grim, Satoshi refuses, saying Dia just said earlier he’d never give up. I knew Satoshi wouldn’t leave him behind, and I just knew Dia would suggest something like this. They’re about to be doomed and eaten by Guzzlord/Akuziking when Shiny Kapu Kokeko comes and and uses Electric Web(??) on Guzzlord/Akuziking and gives the two boys (lol at me calling Dia a ‘boy’) the power to use Z-moves again. God. The timing of XYZ theme in that scene was so god damn good??? I hope someone makes a clip of it in tumblr, it deserves it.
Man. I’ll probs have more to say after subtitles because the dialogue seemed so good but I can’t seem to be able to put them to words. I do find it funny that Satoshi told Dia to battle him again after they manage to successfully open the same kind of hole that happened in SM100 to send Satoshi home. Satoshi, not sure how that’ll happen. :D
But anyway. All in all, absolutely amazing episode and felt so good to hear XYZ. It caught me so offguard. I didn’t expect to hear it. Sun & Moon never ceases to amaze me and I just keep on loving this series more and more every episode. I’m thankful to be alive at a time like this ♥
Edit: Oh yeah. Only few minutes of time passed when Satoshi was in Ultra Ruins. That’s very intriquing. :D Much like Digital World in Adventure...

Note
Hello, Prof. Peach! I'm a Porygon, using my Trainer's account to send this ask because you don't have anons set up. We'd like to visit your island sometime and maybe volunteer or donate things to help with your rehoming efforts; do we have to fill out a permit? I'm not worried about getting hurt because my Sirfetch'd friend will protect me, but what dangers could there be for a technological Pokémon like me? Would the wilder Pokémon know not to attack us? Thank you!
We love reading about what you do and would like to help if possible ❤️
You’ll be happy to know that we have an entire island set up exactly for this. We have regular trips to the space by schools, youngsters, hospitals, and travelling trainers alike. We take pride in being accessible to all, should you wish to make your way to us. The south of the island is entirely safe, we house friendly, hospitable pokemon here, so even when young kids come along and run, and scream, and pet them, or try to interact, it poses no threats to anyone. the pokemon chosen go through strict training, and we make sure to put out only the most gentle of species on the visitors side. if an issue arises, theres dedicated pokemon AND human staff around to help and intervene. We havent had more than a scraped knee here for 15 years now, least not without provocation. Speaking of, theres security in place to help keep theft down, and we ask no one to catch pokemon not within the islands dedicated “catch zone”. should someone try, they’re often captured and turned into myself, or one of the staff on duty at the time to answer for their rule breaking.
We hold regular events and activities for people to get involved with, depending on the time of year. Our next event is a spring flower show and fate during April, we have folks coming in from Sinnoh to Judge a pokemon costume contest, with guest judge Wallace, who is taking time from his busy schedule to stop by for the event. People can enter with a simple form, on the day. Theres usually plenty of local vendors, food, trinkets, held items galore thanks to Professor Grey, and plenty of locations to explore and enjoy. We pair these events up with adoption drives for pokemon ready to find homes too, so should you know of anyone after a partner, its a good event to join in with, you get a chance to play, interact, and relax with a lot of hopeful pokemon, all scrubbed clean and ready for a big day of meeting lots of new people.  As for donations, we do take them, depending on what they're for, if they don’t suit our needs we advise the donee’s to give to a more suitable location who may need the stuff more than we do. For example we’re not REALLY an egg based location, so we send a lot of our donated hatching units to breeders and specialists who take in unwanted eggs, as they need that help more than us for the most part.
We don’t keep unruly Electric pokemon, and have a Porygon-Z within our labs facilities who has gone unharmed for a long time (outside of battle of course). This is quite a safe environment for an individual to explore at their leisure, with many greenhouses, research labs, and interesting nooks and crannies to investigate. Theres one barn i would avoid but should you come to visit us, i’ll be very clear which one, as its full of the Joltic and Grubbin lines, who may cause you some concern in their large groups, but tend to stick to their areas and aren't unusually hostile if left alone.
The only thing we ask is to stay off the North side of the Island, as it homes the biggest, meanest, generally unkind, shy, or difficult, pokemon who don’t like to be on centre stage like those on the southern side. Theres a perimeter fence, and very clear signposting all along it, to keep visitors clear, we also patrol pokemon teams along the fence line to keep things safe for everyone. We ask everyone leave the area well alone, as the species behind it are uncertain of most people, and will either flee or attack on sight, mostly attack if i’m being really honest with you haha. I’m sure you're somewhat familiar with our work, and we do take in the worst cases, and most aggressive and difficult species, so they can be troublesome when around others.
Hopefully we see you real soon, we’re open pretty much every day, can’t be an island and not take in travellers off the ocean, boats run from Olivine too, should you want to approach from that direction. The special seasonal events are usually really fun and exciting, and you get to see the island at its peak functionality, so we hope you make it in time for one.

USUM, its Story’s message and how this intermingles with SM’s actual message.
A lot of people have the misconception that the message of SM is standing up to your abuser and taking life into your own hands. After all, the first half of that happens when Lillie called Lusamine out.
A lot of those people tend to willingly forget the reason that Lillie wanted to go into Ultra Space and the things that happened after that showdown.
Lillie’s real reason to go into Ultra Deep Sea was to save Lusamine from herself. The damage on Alola was already done, was ignored and all of Lillie’s growing self confident/ inspiration from you the trainer was more her taking life into her own hands.
After Lillie had Nebby separate Lusamine from Nihilego, that woman said a few pleasant words and Lillie... automatically forgiven her, decided to go to Kanto to help Lusamine recover and leave her newly found friends/ family to go back to her mother... who still didn’t understand what she did wrong. The fact that the only reason Lusamine didn’t go to your champions party was because she was sick and not... because she put everyone in danger and tried to kill you, makes all of it pretty creepy and wrong.
It is pokemon, Lillie and Bill ARE able to find a way to heal Lusamine. Sacred Ash’s are a thing and it is strong stuff.
Meaning that despite everything... Lusamine got off scott free for her actions, her and the whole of the Aether Foundation (As we seen in the post game.). The writers also forgotten about Gladion and he became acting president, running the very place he and Lillie were abused in. The very place he and Null wanted to leave forever. This was a grim conclusion for him, he wasn’t taking responsibility, he was just back in the hell he was in... because Wicke didn’t take the damn job herself.
As emotional as Lillie’s goodbye was, it botched its own supposed message of standing up to your abuser and taking life into your own hands. It undid a large chunk of her character growth, it left us with no real closure or hints that she was going to be fine considering how bleeping awful Lusamine was and now Lillie is back with her. This is a dangerous message for kids and the fact many players blocked this part out... disturbs me.
I think Gamefreak noticed this and changed things around in USUM... it was minor changes that contributed to a larger picture and contributed to giving out its message... what is to me, better.
The narrative shift and where the changes went to... was USUM’s attempt at becoming its own, despite running through the same beats as to SM. Lusamine had Mohn trauma, did horrible things in her attempt at keeping things the same/ refusing to let things go, Gladion got fed up with it, stole Type:Null... ran. Lusamine became more frantic and done things to the Cosmog, Lillie noticed... saw it as inexcusably wrong... stole it and ran.
This part was 3 months prior to the events of the games, before you came to Alola.
Like in SM, we see Lillie as a timid girl that wasn’t able to do much on her own, had anxiety for days, yet kept being inspired by the trainers around her... and you the new trainer who was accomplishing the impossible.
This... leads to a similar build on both games having a recurring theme. You having the strength to do something and having an influence on her and those around you. Much like how Hau was having an influence on Gladion, how Guzma was one to those around his grunts and putting the last one in a negative light, how Lusamine was a negative influence on her children. (Through years of neglect/ emotional abuse.)
When we reach Aether Paradise the second time, we are told and seen just the kind of crushing influence Lusamine had on her kids. How she was quick to tear down on her daughter for running off and going against her wishes... for thinking for herself. (Lusamine’s goal in USUM might be trying to beat Necrozma... but she was doing it her way, a way that did endanger Alola, she was someone who was doing it for her own reasons and that is what the Ultra Recon Squad got pissed off about when she went Leeroy Jenkins.)
This becomes more apparent when Lillie and Gladion’s pleas to her fell on the ears of someone who was thinking it was her way or the highway. She tried to battle you as a way to get her kids to shut up. Lillie was helpless once again in trying to do something to protect Nebby. (Grant it in SM, Gladion and Hau were part of a battle royal against many things and that scene was more crazy in comparison.) How Gladion was once again.... unable to do something to stop another one of his family from being lost into Ultra Space.
After which, you left Lillie alone to think things over. ...
The next day, Lillie cast aside her old clothes, her mother’s overbearing shadow and put on her Z Powered form. Accumulation of you and everyone from Alola inspiring her to make that next step towards becoming her own.
That is when you and Lillie take that journey to Poni Island, where you and Lillie have a goal in mind. Get Lusamine off her high horse and confront Necrozma as a unified force.
While I didn’t like how Exeggutor Island was removed, that scene can be put into its message of how you were inspiring Lillie. She remembers that sweet moment with her mother and came to the decision in becoming a trainer. I’ll get to where this went later.) The rest of the journey played out as is, Lillie had the confidence needed to face things that would have scared her before and the desire to face her mother again. All because you inspired her. In turn, you also inspired the Ultra Recon Squad into thinking that they really need to start fighting their own battles and are willing to work with you to deal with Necrozma.
Once you reach past Poni Canyon, the two of you blow the flute and evolve Nebby. The scene plays out like in SM and with the same spirit, Lillie wanting to confront her mother... in SM we got to see that among seeing Lillie use that inspiration to call her out. But note the things I mentioned that happened after.
In USUM... Necrozma punted Lusamine and Guzma out, ate Nebby and things go off the rails. The Ultra Recon Squad lend you the opposite of Nebby and you take the reigns of the legendary they were friends with. (Though it was stated the URS didn’t have real control over it, it was able to listen to a trainer with strong enough will power.)
You go off and be the hero once more... leaving Lillie and the URS to tear at Lusamine. This was off screen, but when you come back... you end up seeing the aftermath, Lillie... with her newfound strength, got Lusamine to have a change of heart... influencing that woman to change her ways. The mother and daughter have an understanding of each other.
It isn’t as emotional since we didn’t get to see the whole thing, but we see Lillie being able to begin a new start in her family relationship. After which, the mother and daughter go back to Aether Paradise to tend to Nebby.
This also brings Guzma’s quote to consideration, something that Hala tried to teach Guzma in SM’s post game. “Maybe if you bring out the best in others, you bring out the best in yourself.”
There you go! That is USUM’s message and to an extent, SM’s true message since you brought out the best of Lillie. I personally believe this message was better executed in USUM since it affected much more people and we got to see it stick.
Because it isn’t just you that was bringing out that. It becomes apparent during Mina’s trial when you next see Guzma.... you and Hau inspiring him to get his head out of his ass and make something of himself.
This becomes repeated when you see Gladion, who got inspired by you and Hau to find out just where real friendship can get ya. You see this in his Crobat, Lucario and Silvally.
You are then told to go to Mahalo trial where you meet Lillie... with a healed Nebby. She got more inspired to part ways with her friend, under more logical reasons... like helping Necrozma. Lillie became inspired and strong enough to let go of her past, to let Nebby go... much like in SM... only this is better executed due to where I am going to get to soon.
You and your strength also has an influence on even the Big Bad of USUM... Necrozma. You have the tools and the power... to ease his ever lasting pain, to hopefully... one day, restore him to his prime and possibly make a difference for the people of Ultra Megaopolis.
Necrozma took their light and they are stuck in something they didn’t want... but maybe in time, they will get a happy ending.
You find your influence comes again at the Pokemon League, where Hau got inspired by your constant beat downs of him to take things more seriously.
Seriously enough that he became the final boss. As a rival should have been. You brought out the best in Hau.
You beat him and the credits role, its all find and dandy, especially when you see Gladion go off to Kanto, he got inspired by watching you and Hau to find his own way to get stronger and protect those he held dear. It isn’t as emotional as Lillie’s goodbye... but that isn’t why it was so good, on his way out... he saw Lusamine showing up in the distance. He was initially scared of her being there... until he saw her waving goodbye to him, something affected Lusamine to give her a full change of heart.
In the post game, if you go to Aether Paradise and visit that woman before RR. She has an identity crisis, Necrozma kicking her ass and bringing havoc on Alola and the things Lillie said to her... gave her a self reflection of some kind. That she was god awful as a person, who is in no position to face anyone after the things she did, no position to be a mother to her children or to the pokemon she was suppose to care for.
She had this crisis in between the prelude to RR and the end of RR. Where she was going to come clean to the people of Alola and tell them what really happened and what was going to happen to prevent another Necrozma like incident from happening again. Then came RR and Lusamine in her stubbornness, tried to stop Giovanni and got knocked out... becoming a damsel of some way. This is karma at its finest due to how for most of USUM, (and a lesser extend SM where she was the big bad.) she was the one knocking other people down to do what ever she wants.
Then you the hero come in to get RR out of Alola. Lillie is there and unlike from before, the courage she gathered has given her the final step needed to her full blossoming. Into a trainer, she kicked a RR grunts butt and followed you to the castle. Where she was willing to fight with you against a treacherous Faba and an employee. Lillie sent out her Clefairy and if you know what you are doing, that Clefairy is SO good as a support. The two of you kicked Faba’s butt and go into the castle, despite how Lillie was still scared as hell in going against Team Rainbow Rocket. You and everyone’s influence... lead to moments like this.
You also get to see Guzma’s change of heart in full as he too helped you take on RR. Of course, Lillie has only started as a trainer, so reality ensues, this is as far as she can go in directly helping you and she waits in what was her mother’s room while you do the rest.
But that isn’t to say that this Lillie became a wimp again, she had enough balls to talk back against freaking Ghetsis... and got held hostage as a result. (Not that she was pleading.) In fact, Lillie’s presence in RR is a visual of the end result of her growth, she was more that willing to do her part in stopping RR and rescue her mother.
This... this is one of the highlights of Lillie’s growth in USUM. Being inspired to become strong and protect those close to her. (Much like what Gladion was doing and much like what Lusamine... attempted to do but went completely the wrong way to where it became abuse.)
Then you beat Giovanni, the day is saved and Lillie gives a cute confession to you the player. Much like in Exeggutor Island from SM and go back home.
Then comes the aftermath of RR. Where if you visit Aether Paradise... Lusamine has a resolve in what to do with her life. Vowing to love her kids from a distance without interfering with their lives. Those frozen pokemon that were there at the end of RR are scheduled to be thawed out.. Lusamine is making amends for those she had hurt. The things she had to say in title defense... showed that you and Lillie brought a change in her heart... enough that she gets... why you were able to make a difference in her kids lives. Enough that she understands her kids a bit more.
Then came a month later, where Gladion returns with his newfound strength and takes you on. All seems normal until you visit Aether Paradise again, where Lusamine meets Mohn again. It seems like a pleasant conversation, but Mohn doesn’t recognize his own wife... Lusamine is hiding her heart break and in a final sign of her growth... she lets Mohn go... lets the past go. This was the height of Lusamine’s growth in USUM, she learned to let go of the past and focus on becoming a better person.
Gladion being on better terms with his mother that he visits time and again, but still being let out to do things of his own. Shows that he and Silvally are inspired and free to do their own thing, no longer bound by the past.
Lillie, went back to Kukui and Burnet. You the player can visit her AND she becomes your partner in the Battle Tree... as one of the best supporters in that place. Which fits with Lillie’s character as someone who doesn’t want pokemon to get hurt and thus does everything possible to ease your pokemon’s pain. Lillie is on Alola with the new friends and family she made, living her life as a trainer. Because you the player.. along with those Lillie met... have inspired her to make that leap. To her... if you are able to do the impossible, then so can she.
“Maybe if you bring out the best in others, you bring out the best in yourself.”
That is the message of USUM and the message SM tried to tell us.
The closure USUM gave, delivered this message in ways that SM didn’t when they had the story end where it should have continued.
It is pretty sad how so many of the fan base didn’t get that message in SM, thought it was something else (though to be fair it is an extension of that message.) and hate on USUM’s story for making the message more clear.
Even if USUM didn’t give us as much of those heart felt moments with Lillie. It delivered its message much more clear.

Retrospective Thought: Top Ten Games of The Year 2018
Oi! 2018 was pretty good year games, innit? Maybe not as consistent as 2017 for quality, but I reckon it’s still a damn great year! Anyway, now that all the other Game of The Year stuff has happened, I think I’m going to do my own list, which I’ve done for a couple of years now. Well, let’s get to it, which games blew my socks and which 3 particularly royally blew my socks off!
10) Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth - Hacker’s Memory(PS4/PSVita) Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth is basically Discount Persona with a Pokemon battle system(only with a cooler way of switching moves via a skill bank of sorts). The story, however, is not a follow up from the previous title but a companion story of sorts. You play as a Hacker whose account has been stolen. You embark on a journey to regain your account and to stop the person responsible for the whole thing. The story pretty much opens up as you progress, taking some of the previous game’s plot with a dash of “Alternative point of view” to boot. Hacker’s Memory has it’s downtime moments, sometimes it can feel like a real grind, but leading a team of your suited up fave digimon has never felt better, definitely worth picking up if you like Persona and Digimon!
9) Dragonball Fighter z(PS4/XBO/PC/NS I enjoyed both Xenoverse games, they aren’t perfect and the RNG is real ass with a side of cancer thrown in. People clamored for a new Dragonball Z flavoured, bonafide fighting game. ArcSys delivered on that front, and boy did they really deliver the goods! The gameplay is frantic, epic and balls to wall bonkers. It’s easy to pick up if you just want to fight around with your favourite characters, whilst also in-depth for those seasoned fighting game maniacs. The gameplay is top tier and an absolute pleasure to play. Pick it up if you’re a Dragonball Z, Fighting Game or both fan!
8) Darksiders III(PS4/XBO/PC) I love the Darksiders franchise. I enjoyed the first game, adored the second one, and now I really like the third iteration. Is it perfect? No, is it the best one? Not by a loooong shot, but the game is a blast to play. Following on from the previous game’s style, it’s a companion piece that follows Fury’s side of things during War’s trial at the Charred Council. Fury is one of the Four Horsemen, badasses that do badass shit when and how they see fit. While the first one is a more Character Action experience with Zelda-isms, the second being a reverse of that with a Open World and Dungeon styley, the third, is a smaller game that focuses more on a “Metroidvania” like world with combat feeling a tad like Soulsborne stuff. The bosses are all a treat to fight(well, except one), the world is aesthetically gorgeous despite not exactly being on GoW or Red Dead’s level. Pick it up, give it a whirl and enjoy!
7) Yakuza 6: Song of Life/Yakuza Kiwami 2(PS4) I can write a whole retrospective on this series, I absolutely adore this franchise with all my heart. Yakuza follows the life of Kazuma Kiryu; a form Yakuza big dog trying to live an ordinary life with his adopted daughter Haruka. Now, the story is a rollercoaster of badass moments, heartwrenching scenes with a dash of twists and comedic parts in all equal splendor. The combat, is easily a star alongside the story, solid, fun and very in-depth yet easy to learn. Kiwami 2 is a remake of the second game whilst the sixth game is the final part ot Kazuma’s story. I’d wholeheartedly recommend these titles to those who either have just got into the whole franchise or are veterans to the Yakuza Franchise. Kiwami 2 is also a remake of possibly the worst part of the series. Pick it up if you love great crime dramas with twists and turns around every exposition dumping corner!
6) Hollow Knight(PS4/XBO/NS/PC) Now, I know it came out in 2017, but I only played this game this year, so it still counts for my list. Hollow Knight is a Metroidvania with a Dark Souls-esque style of worldbuilding and story. The gameplay is a pleasure, and the each zone, each area is both unique to one another yet seamlessly interconnected and not too “wild” in the vein of being out of place. The bosses are both horrifying and cute, same goes for the enemies and NPCs you encounter in the game. The music, the art design and the gameplay are all fantastic, quite possibly my favourite indie title since Pyre. You play as a wanderer that happens upon Hollownest, a small, almost empty little town of critters, below lies a dungeon thwart with danger and a terrible past. Any further, and we are heading into spoiler territory. I hugely implore you to pick this little treat up, you will not regret it at all.
5) Fist of The North Star: Lost Paradise(PS4) From the developers of Yakuza, comes an adaptation of a fantastic little Manga called Fist of The North Star, basically Mad Max but with anime martial arts. You play as Kenshiro, the Successor of Hokuto Shinken, a martial arts style of deading folks. While not a completely panel by panel adaptation and more of a single one shot story using the world and characters of Fist of The North Star, the Yakuza style gameplay really lends itself for adaptations like this. The story could easily be just fanfiction, they really made it something more than fanfiction level fanservice. It’s a really good single story set in it’s own little world. The gameplay holds itself perfectly for this adaptation, with a few added crazy kill techniques that you can level to deal out more damage. Buy it if you are either looking to get into this series, or are a long time fan.
4) Super Smash Bros:Ultimate(NS) The flagship “Not a Fighter” fighting game that started as a Nintendo Legacy series brawler to becoming a huge flagship of a video game legacy brawler. I’ve always adored Super Smash, even the previous one(though it’s not particularly jam-packed with content). Ultimate brings back EVERYONE and even includes some newcomers(Who really should’ve been here since at least Brawl), more content than you can imagine, a reimagined classic mode, a new single player and a fun little collecting system called Spirits, this game is a fanservice love letter, and a big one too. It is worth the price, pure and simple, buy it now!
3) Monster Hunter World(PS4/XBO/PC) I only ever played the first one to completion, tried to get into the 3DS titles and thought “I don’t like it” despite loving the shit out of the monster designs. On a whim, decided to World at launch, and boy was that a fantastic decision. I fucking love this game, from the story(simple but fun) right down to how the monsters are programmed to be as naturally animalistic as they’ve ever been, all the while adding in some old and some new beasties to hunt!. I’ve had fun with friends, on my own, raged at certain monsters(LOOKING AT YOU, BEHEMOTH) and spent hours farming for the material to craft weapons and armors I really want. I’ve spent over a hundred years into this game, and will gladly spend the same in the upcoming expansion! Get this game NOW, you will love it, I assure you!
2) Marvel’s Spiderman(PS4) Spiderman is one of my favourite heroes, he’s grounded, he’s tragic, and he feels like a real person. It would stand that a game based on him, would’ve been a huge success(Spidey 2 was great!, Ultimate and Web of Shadows were really good! The others? Eeeeeeehhhhh not so much). Developed by Insomniac, this return to form for the webslinger is a helluva return! The combat is fluid, fun and fantastic, the story is great whilst the City That Never Sleeps is a nice if pricey expansion. But the webslinging, the bread and butter of any Spidey game, is quite possibly the best, better even than Spidey 2 in my honest opinion. The story is superb, and when *that* scene happens? It will hit you like a ton of bricks. The bosses? Probably the best of this year honestly. This is a must buy for any spidey fan, marvel fan, hell, superhero fan of all kinds!
1) God of War(PS4) Usually, a soft re-imagining can be as well received as a Gary Glitter Comeback Tour, but this one? Boy oh boy, this game is a masterpiece. You play as Kratos, older and wiser since his temper tantrum trilogy in Greece, he’s a father again and now must take the BOI on a journey. I really don’t want to spoil it any further for people who haven’t played it yet. The combat is a great revamp overall(I miss doing juggling combos but eh, the rest of the game is steller), hard hitting and brutal like you’ve known before whilst adding a more personalised flair to it. The soundtrack and audio design is steller, as well as the voice acting. Boy oh boy, the story is fantastic too, following a journey of growth(not just for Atreus) and facing one’s demons, it truly is the highlight of the game. More boss variety could’ve been added, maybe a little more enemy variety too, but these are just minor critiques by the most minor of things. Get this game now, you will enjoy it!
So that’s my list, yes i didn’t include Red Dead 2, haven’t completed it, but I’d gladly do a review once I’m done. Another good year of games has ended, roll on the new year, with another batch of stellar games(I’M LOOKING AT YOU, RESIDENT EVIL 2 REMAKE, DMCV AND HOPEFULLY GHOST OF TSUSHIMA!). Hope you have a happy new years, and had a great Christmas!

I've come to accept the idea of a Kanto reboot. I'm going to buy and play it anyway so when it inevitably releases I'll just be happy with another Pokemon game.
The reason why I've accepted it? Well on top of all the rumors and leaks with credible sources or information, I've also just accepted it as a business strategy. Maybe not my preferred strategy, but unfortunately it's a good one. Nintendo knows it's a system seller, they know older fans will return to buy it, they know current fans will buy it, they know new fans will buy it, ergo it's just a smart move on their part.
Here's some things I think about it:
Not a new gen, but rather sort of the step to it. If they introduce new Pokemon, it'll most likely be mythicals to sell a movie or something.
It's going to have new forms of some kind. It's honestly a bad idea at this point to not add anything new to it and just plop shiny paint on a trashcan.
The graphics will probably resemble higher res upscale graphics you see on pc emulation of Sun and Moon/Ultra. Don't expect unreal engine stuff until gen 8 Or later. This game is the system seller, thus it will be a testing ground for Game Freak to figure out what they can do. Don't believe me? Compare the graphics to Diamond and Pearl to Black and White 2, and X and Y to Ultra SM. This can even be applied to GRBY to Crystal to some extent.
The game is going to get mixed reviews from it's audience no matter what they do. Yes it will sell but if they only appeal to old fans and dont add anything to it, then current and newer fans will shit on it. Likewise, if they add new things like a story or forms, or even newer Pokemon from later gens to the region, the dumb genwunners will throw tantrums.
If we're being real, the games probably will have something for everyone. I think because we'll still he in gen 8 territory the whole Rocket Rainbow and ultra wormhole thing can still pay relevance, even if it reboots the franchise. Plus with Red and Blue in Alola as adults, we could see a new Kanto. The original 151 will obviously be more prevalent but I think it would be kind of dumb to do what FRLG did to restrict some evos until the national dex or just pretend like later gen Pokemon wouldn't arrive there at some point.
On the flip side they did say don't set your expectations too high. It could just be a straight up remake.
IGN will give it a 10/10 and people will start saying the last few games were awful in comparison (it's already happening to Sun and Moon tbh).
It will set market records and probably outsell Ultra SM.
As far as minor features, I'm sure riding Pokemon will make a return since it was so well praised and since the game will most likely use Sun and Moon assets.
This and Pokemon following you will most likely be a thing because the animations are there and the switch can handle it. I personally am the oddball out since I don't much care for it, but 99% of people I know do love it.
Probably going to have some "Delta Episode" involving Mew and or Mewtwo.
Probably going to get to fight Oak.
Probably lots of jokes at old playground legends including the Mew truck.
Honestly, it's probably going to be a bit more hand holdy than people want but not as much as XY or SM.
Something tells me there's going to be something special about the starters this time around. Idk what but probably exclusive Z moves or new forms. Just a gut feeling.
And I have more but overall this is just speculation.
