Summary:

Harry hopes an indulgent trip abroad will help shake him out of the doldrums of his life. What he finds once he gets to Venice is more than he ever expected.

Excerpt:

“Why?” Harry asks him.

Draco lifts a shoulder. “Why not?” He’s aiming for indifferent but Harry can tell it’s all a front. Draco had chased him this time. Put himself into Harry’s space, licked a stripe across his lips, how dare he now stand there feigning nonchalance.

“You deceived me.”

“I freed you from your inhibitions, Harry. Don’t act like you weren’t begging for it.”

Harry flinches, knowing very well how his brash actions must have come across.

But then, one thought occurs to him. Harry looks up. “Why didn’t you let me kiss you?”

Seconds pass as Harry takes in what he can read of Draco’s face behind the dark shadow of his sunglasses. In lieu of answering, Draco’s mouth lifts into the softest of smiles, small and sad and so painfully sweet it angers Harry to see it. He watches Draco vanish the melting cone and lick his fingers clean. Harry swallows and steps closer, frustration winning out over all the other emotions whirling through him. “Why, Draco?”

Draco shrugs again, looking away over his one shoulder. “It’s like I said, you’d regret it in the morning.”

“It’s morning.”

Draco nods. “And?”

“You’re right.”

“I knew—” Draco’s saying but Harry doesn’t let him finish the thought. He grabs the back of Draco’s neck, twisting his hand into the gorgeous pink shock of his hair, and pulls him forward. They connect to the sound of thunder ricocheting across the sky.

It takes a moment for Harry to realise that the sound reverberating around them isn’t an oncoming storm but their magic colliding. It vibrates in his very bones as he holds Draco to him, pushing his tongue into his mouth and tasting the melted gelato he’d stolen from Harry mere minutes before. Harry wants it back and Draco gives it, freely and with a matched hunger Harry is thrilled to feel as his hands grip tightly and bring Harry closer.

When Harry pulls back, his mouth is deliciously sore, his chest heaving with a need for breath. He puts his forehead to Draco’s, nuzzles against the dampness of his overheated skin and runs his hands down his back, landing on his hips and squeezing, fingernails biting into the fabric of his Muggle jeans.

“You’re a fucking tease,” Harry tells him, only to be met with a soft laugh; a puff of amusement against his lips. Harry chases it, kissing Draco silent once more.

Another crack, another ripple of magic shooting through his entire body. He’s weak with wanting and lightheaded from the heat, the sun, the intensity of Draco’s hands on him. He breaks free of Draco’s mouth and bites along his jaw, hearing Draco’s answering hiss of approval. He nips at his earlobe, drags his nose down the exposed column of Draco’s throat and licks across that obscene pale line of collarbone, now painted a ruddy pink, either from the sun or Draco’s natural flush, Harry couldn’t care less which.

Draco moves his hips against Harry’s, and Harry feels the bite of an iron railing at the small of his back. He turns to look, mind blanking for a moment as he takes in where they’re standing. They’re on the steps of Ponte Michel, just outside Draco’s home.

“How?” he breathes, but Draco grabs his face with long fingers and directs their mouths back together, smiling into the kiss with a wickedness that Harry eagerly meets.

“Side-along” Draco says into Harry’s mouth, and his head spins. He hadn’t even felt the tug in his gut, too wrapped up in the sensations Draco was wringing from him with simply his hands and tongue. He lets his head fall forward onto Draco’s shoulder, overwhelmed by a sudden onslaught of images tumbling through his mind as he imagines what else this man might be capable of.

“Fuck.”

“Not yet. Kiss me more.” Draco’s greedy with it, never leaving Harry’s mouth for more than the moment it takes him to breathe in some much-needed oxygen. He kisses Harry with a desperation Harry understands only too well, though the depth of it still sits uneasily on his shoulders. Has this always been simmering under the surface when it came to the two of them? This want to get under each other's skin is not new, but the variation and why of it certainly is. Harry holds Draco close, licks into him with his tongue and wonders how this version of their obsession with each other came to pass; has the inclination to take this path with Draco always been there, or is the time they’ve had to grow out of their idiot teenage selves the key ingredient that’s caused this delicious reaction?

“Stop thinking, Harry,” Draco demands, pulling his hair taut in his fist.

“I wasn’t,” Harry hisses at the sting, and Draco laughs into his mouth.

“Liar.”

“Well, distract me better,” Harry taunts, only to be met with a wide-eyed gasp.

“Is that a challenge, Potter?”

Ahh thank you! I've participated three times in Erised and unfortunately, this year will be my last time for that particular fest, but I am glad you are looking forward to it! There's another fest I participated in as well that will get revealed in the next couple weeks. If you are interested in my past fest fics, I'll link them.

-Dear Cousin, Love Regulus [Harry/Draco Big Bang 2018] As the sole Malfoy heir, Draco understood that his path was set long before his birth; who to be, how to act and what his choices should be. What he had not counted on was the power of outside influences. Letters from his deceased cousin caused him to realize that he did have choices, starting with the choice to be someone else, to be who he wanted to be. The road to self-discovery was difficult and navigating that path in the shadow of Harry Potter was its own challenge but maybe, just maybe, his friends would help him along the way. And he would owe it all to Regulus Black.

-Ardour of Karma [H/D Erised 2019] “Malfoy knows something is going on with you and unless you both want to go back to fighting and death glares, you should fix it.”

“How do I do that? Just waltz up to him and say, ‘I know I’ve been a prat but your scent makes my dick swell. How’s your day?’”

The familiar drawl had Harry’s throat clamming up as his blood ran cold. Oh no.

-The Forsaken [Harry/Draco OwlPost 2019] When Draco imagined his future as a child he thought he'd be a Potion Master, get married and maybe have a kid. But the reality was he was a retired Assassin, bitten by a Vampire and mated to a reckless, idiotic, foolish ex-Auror now turned Veela—Harry Potter.

-Borrowing Courage [H/D Erised 2018] After years of being a Magical Artist and painting for other people, Draco decides it’s time to paint for himself for once. The secrets pile up as he tries to unravel the mystery of his relatives but the only thing he didn’t count on was having to go to Potter of all people for approval.

-Save a Horse, Ride a Malfoy [HP Kinkfest 2020] Riddles are woven throughout life, some never answered and many lost in frustration. Whatever riddle it was that defined what Harry and Draco had was a mess of a riddle that worked for them, despite what everyone else thought, even if there was no answer—yet. Sex was another riddle, only that was one they had solved many, many times over.

-Still Standing [H/D Fan Fair 2019] Not many know the evil origins of a Philosopher's Stone. When Draco discovers that the Goblins found one and kept it, he'll stop at nothing to see it taken care of. Even if that means having to deal with Gringotts' very own resident twat: Harry Potter.

-Augury Forecast [HP Drizzle Fest 2018] Draco had always known that teaching at Hogwarts would be an experience, he just didn’t think that meant a flash flood in the kitchens, a windstorm in the Great Hall, or a sandstorm in the Quidditch pitch. Months of extreme weather would grate on anyone’s nerves, but to have Potter, the ever annoying Divination Professor, around every corner was even worse. So much for a quiet life at Hogwarts.

-Teach Me [HP Contest Fest 2018] "If you can’t learn Occlumency, then you can’t become an Auror.”

No. All of this couldn’t be for nothing. Harry hadn’t spent so much time proving himself, proving that he was more than just a famous name for all of this to go to shite. “This can’t be the end.”

"I have someone in mind that could teach you if you are willing, but I can't guarantee he will help, especially considering your... past."

"You don't mean Malfoy, do you?"

-Worth Betting On [HP Joggers Fest 2018] The easy way Malfoy breezed into the arena in an unprofessional attire—grey joggers that outlined far too much, and a white dress shirt open with nothing underneath—which showed off his chest, his sweaty sweaty chest—had Harry sitting up straighter. It wasn't unusual to see Malfoy in such a state of undress, it was a signature move that he refused to change.

Not that Harry wanted him to change.

Or the one where Draco is a professional Duelist, and Harry can't stay away from the matches.

Wizards Hearts Smut Recs: Semi-Public Sex

Wizards Hearts was a four-month-long Drarry reading fest. Players were given a playing deck of 52 tropes, and were asked to find 52 different fics to read and comment on to fill their decks. To prevent the same few fics from being read, fics were restricted to only being used for the game three times before being considered ineligible for further points. Thank you @rockmarina for tagging me! I’m still new at this writing thing, and I honestly didn’t expect to write as much as I did this year: six fics on AO3 (Vortex, though posted in January, was written entirely in 2019) and, recently, a bunch of microfics on Tumblr. Here are my five faves in no particular order, because I love all my fic babies and I’m proud of the work and thought I put into them. And for your reading pleasure, all-new, silly summaries!

Follow the Water (H/D Wireless Fest) 38K, Rated T. That summer when Harry spends his Saturdays in the Devonshire countryside with Luna and the Slytherin friends she’s taken under her wing. Picnics! Hiking! Bisexual awakenings! Luna being an absolute angel with strange ideas about food! Draco in a wet T-shirt! Fairies!

On Your Shore (H/D Sex Fair) 35K, Rated M. So maybe Harry has a tiny little crush on Draco. Surely spending a week together in an isolated location with a house full of cursed knick-knacks won’t make things worse, right? Oh, shit. There’s only one bed. And there’s something that Draco’s been hiding from Harry. And where’d that cat come from?

Lockdown Lurgy (the lockdown fic that I didn’t have time to write during the Lockdown Fest, but was still relevant because lockdown is never-ending) 15K, Rated T. There’s a magic pandemic, but it’s funny? Well, the pandemic isn’t funny, but two boys who are still trying hard to be assholes to each other (but quietly!) while sharing a bedroom is. Bonus: cute Toddler Moments with Teddy.

Crimson Neon (Taste of Smut Fest) 20K, Rated M. Harry’s homesick and miserable in New York City. Draco’s teaching himself to cook all his favorite British comfort foods in his little apartment kitchen, which happens to be in the same Upper West Side building where Harry lives. What a strange coincidence! Let’s share this delicious food and fall in love!

The Comfiest Armchair 2K, Rated T. Two boys stuck to a chair. That’s it. That’s the fic. Based on this art by @caroll-in, who’s both brilliant and lovely and deserves to have the rest of this summary just be about how wonderful she is.

This was my first full year as a fandom creator, and so much of the joy of writing this year has been tied to finding the amazing and supportive Drarry community here and on Discord. A year ago, I hardly knew anyone, and now I feel incredibly blessed to have become acquainted with talented people from around the world. Y’all are the best gift of this hellish year.
