every experience is different. some believe the golden child is somehow golden and glorious, but it isn’t. afterwards, i felt so mentally fucked in the head. i was never allowed to be imperfect. when i made a mistake, i was abused, hated, yelled at, beaten, thrown out of the house. the status was conditional. it was an immense amount of pressure, to be everything i was expected to be, but was not. it’s like having broken legs, but being told you have no choice, but to walk on broken legs and put a smile on your face when you’re falling apart on the inside.

it’s the madness and how it drives you crazy and eats you up from the inside because you want to scream, but can’t because she screams louder, harder, and faster. it’s losing yourself, because you only exist to make someone else happy. the dread, of not knowing when and how long the eye of the storm will last until things get hurled around over your head again. it’s the feeling that you are responsible for someone else’s unpredictable moods. it’s the despair on the inside that you can never be happy unless your narc mom is happy, and she is never really actually happy with you, because being emotionally controlling is their weapon. you’re stressed out all the time, afraid of making one slip or mistake. it’s the expectation. always needing to watch every step you take in front of you. making sure that everything is taken care of. not just you, but managing the narc’s unpredictable moods and behavior and making sure she is happy. you’re managing things, the household, the other children to ensure she never explodes, but she does eventually. you have to be exceptionally smart, top of your class or else you’re a worthless idiot. you spend days and nights studying and perfecting every project. you desperately negotiate your grades with your teachers because anything less than perfect is unacceptable. yes desperate to remain perfect so that you she won’t scream at you and make you feel so worthless you lose the ability to even live one extra day. you’re living one day at a time just simply surviving. you act crazy doing things just to remain perfect, you have to. you can’t be what you are not, so you have to fake it as much as possible, be 1000% more capable than what you are. when you make one mistake, your whole world collapses before you and you have a public meltdown and nobody knows what the hell your problem is when you didn’t make a 4.0 GPA. nobody understand why you must be perfect, you just can’t be allowed to not be. in the end, it leaves you feeling like you had to be an imposter to survive and spending all that time being perfect, you left out on your humanity.
