And I love that. Their abandonment issues are godlevel.

I get the appeal of the difference between John/Mary and Destiel in that Mary failed to break through John’s possession but I don’t think this means what people think it means. John and Mary haven’t known each other that long. The closeness between Dean and Cas was earned in years, tested over and over, earned in literal blood and tears. They were really close by S6 but Dean couldn’t get through to Cas as Godstiel at the end of S6. By S8 they’ve been through so much and their bond strengthened to where the crypt scene happened. By S11, Dean and Cas’s bond was stronger than a divine godlevel being’s mystical link to Dean.

So John and Mary are already pretty close but we’ve barely started to see their story. 6 eps in after they first meet isn’t proof of a weak bond. I think if John/Mary were being forced to have feelings for each other, they wouldn’t be acting the way they’re acting right now. The cupid said they couldn’t stand each other at first — that’s not the truth. They clearly are drawn to each other and are having trouble acting on their feelings. In their case, them acting on their feelings is what Heaven wants, but the feelings were not implanted. That’s all John and Mary.

John and Mary, Sam and Jess, Sam and Eileen, Dean and Cas, all had events manipulated around them but their feelings were not artificially implanted.

The swerve, the uniqueness of Dean and Cas, is that they weren’t intended to fall in love, that wasn’t what the manipulations were aiming for. While their attachment to each other got used as much as those other couples where we know cosmic forces were meddling and arranging. It was not intended to be a romance. Dean and Cas falling in love is the part that skidded off the rails set down for them.

On a meta level…Chuck is heteronormative, and limited in his vision, and Dean and Cas knocked him on his ass.

Chuck never understood Destiel. And yet…found it compelling enough to want to yank their strings, he did use their attachment to each other just like he did with everything else.

So yes Destiel is different. Uniquely powerful. Both rebels, and Cas literally the only Castiel in all the worlds who fell in love with Dean. The ways it’s different makes Dean and Cas a stronger bond, the extent they actually broke the system designed to trap them is a reflection of the strength of that love.

Don’t set a low bar by accident. Aside from, I don’t think anymore that John and Mary were forced to care for each and like each other, a relationship being superior just by dint of not being Heavenly love pollen is…not really a serve.

They all ran their own race, trapped in Chuck’s manipulative system, some had better outcomes than others. Dean and Cas’s uniqueness is multi-leveled.

Alr so I'm reading Record of Ragnarok and like

I just cannot get over the Volunds that all the human fighters get, mostly with how completely bullshit some of them are.

Like, Lu Bu gets a spear. A really good and strong spear. But it's just a spear. It has all the abilities of a normal-ass spear with the addition of being able to fuck up a god's shit.

After that is Adam who has... a knuckleduster. A singular knuckleduster. Just one. And I guess you could attempt to argue that one valkyrie only makes one knuckleduster... but no, that's disproven with Jack, who I WILL complain about.

And then Kojiro gets a sword that splits into two swords, I like this one. It ties into Hirst's whole thing with trembling in rage and fear, it ties into Kojiro's sword fighting nicely. It's great.

AND THEN THERE'S JACK THE FUCKING RIPPER. Fight 3 was fucking Bullshit. HERCULES fought against an old dude who killed a couple people in England. The only way Jack won was because of his bullshit gloves. TWO GLOVES, ONE VALKYRIE! What the fuck, Adam. Anyway, the first two fake Volunds I quite like. The giant-ass Scissors were a kooky unique weapon for a serial killer to use. And the pouch, while pushing it, could open up some interesting strategies with its limitations. But then it's revealed that Jack's ability is that his gloves make ANYTHING he touches a divine weapon... this is so dumb to me. Jack ONLY won because of the arena, which ig reflects how Hercules' kindness was taken advantage of by Jack's scheming. And it does reflect how in most myths and stories of gods, it was cunning ability that beat out raw strength. But at the same time, Jack just got a weird-ass win button that was wayyyy too convinient for him... EVEN WITH THE GLOVES HE'S FIGHTING FUCKING HERCULES. And his win is stupid too, why were the gloves not enough to pierce Herc, why did he also need to coat it in his blood? It's dumb and I'm not over it.

So then we have Raiden... with another dumb one. Like, Jack and Raiden honestly just took me out of the story with their bullshit powers. It didn't feel like humans who were given weapons to help them fight. It feels like already magical beings fighting other already magical beings. Raiden just gets fucking tattoos which i guess are enough to let him nearly murk a god, alongside his apparently already GODLEVEL STRENGTH! I did like Raiden tho, his fight was hype, even if I didn't like the volund.

Buddha doesn't count, he gets a pass.

Qin's was also kinda... weird for me. Like, he got shoulder guards to start with... nothing that could actually harm Hades. And then it becomes a sword out of nowhere. But like, it's fine because his magic bullshit isn't from the weapon.

AND THEN NIKOLA TESLA GETS A FUCKING IRON MAN SUIT! HE GETS A FULL ASS IRON MAN ARMOR THAT HE FUCKING BUILT SOMEHOW??? Kojiro went up against the GOD OF GODS with TWO SWORDS, Lu Bu fought the STRONGEST GOD with a SPEAR, Adam fought the Father OF THE GODS with a KNUCKLEDUSTER! But Jack, Raiden, and Nikola get these complex bullshit magic things?!

I mean, all the fights are hype as hell and never fail to make me cry, but still. I cannot stop thinking about how varied all the volunds are.
