Lucie Viatge, the character designer of Goodbye Volcano High, recently revealed more concept art for the game, including of the in-universe Magical Girl show "Pretty Heroes" (link in source):
There is also a Magical Girl show in the game, called Pretty Heroes. I designed all the characters! I'm a big magical girl enthusiast, with my favorites being MS Madoka Magica, Cardcaptor Sakura and several Precure seasons (ofc I also like Sailor Moon and many others).
Unless I missed something, I'm pretty sure Pretty Heroes is mostly just mentioned and maybe some poster or merch is shown here and there a couple of times in the entire game, so it was a big surprise learning that there was so much thought put into it. Edit: turns out there IS a scene with them I completely missed, beware spoilers.
I am currently working on the whole cast but here's Fang from Goodbye Volcano High! I recently finished my first playthrough and I love this little game 🌠
"goodbye volcano high doesn't have alternate endings what the fuck I hate it!"
you are aware of end-cretaceous extinction I'm assuming? and how it was... in fact... unavoidable?
anyways welcome to the club of people who mourn the Chicxulub impact, here's your official snapback and mourner's flag. we have club meetings every Tuesday where we talk about what would have happened if the asteroid hadn't hit and cry over nonavian dinosaurs, pterosaurs, and nonturtle marine reptiles
and always, major shout out to Jupiter for preventing more world-ending impacts from happening. Huge round of applause for that big beautiful planet!
I am a proud fan of this game called Goodbye Volcano High. It is a cinematic game with major queer characters, including the non-binary protagonist Fang. A game like that is bound to be targeted by the alt-right. And it was, leading to a hugely offensive response to GVH in the form of a "parody" game.
I do not care for the disrespectful "parody" game, which I consider one of the worst things to happen to humanity, much less its undeserved fan base.
Sure, GVH is flawed like all other beloved games, but its strong points (charming characters and their unique designs, impactful themes, cool music) outweigh the weak points. And I am not alone in how I feel.
Plus, the game has been acknowledged positively by THREE major awards ceremonies: The Game Awards, BAFTA, even GLAAD! Sure, it only got nominations in all three, but that's still something!
Not to mention that the developers went through hell to get this game released. First revealed in 2020, released three years later. And in between was a bunch of rewrites and bull**** from intolerant alt-right trolls. And the payoff was awesome: not only the nominations above, but positive reviews from professionals and LGBT+ players.
So, no matter what SOME people may say, Goodbye Volcano High is a modern gem worth playing.
The game Goodbye Volcano High finally comes out tomorrow. Three long years after its initial reveal.
It's a story about cute dinosaur teenagers during the last months before a meteor hits the planet. It has elements of visual novel, point-and-click adventure, and rhythm game (likely among other things not yet revealed). It is animated and voice-acted like a 2D animated movie. The player interacts with the game in many ingenious ways to feel like they are inside the mind of the protagonist, a punk pterodactyl named Fang, as the story unfolds and decisions are made. The music is sweet too.
The developers would love to reach 50 thousand Steam wishlists before the game releases. They are very close to reaching it. If you are interested, here is the link:
