BSD Headcanons

These are just a few headcanons I have for some of the bsd characters (though they are probably more just me pushing my own experiences onto the characters 😅).

WARNINGS: mentions of csa, mori, slight (blink and miss it) mentions of skk and sskk, anxiety, a lot of angst

Dazai and Atsushi both hate people yelling. They have spent most of their life surrounded by angry yelling, so the sound really triggers their anxiety.

Kenji has the DIRTIEST mouth. The boy is only 14 but he already makes the other members of the ada blush with his remarks. Ranpo thinks it's the funniest things, and Kyouka has started picking up on some of his more common curses.

On the other hand, Atsushi doesn't cuss often, but when he does you know some shit is about to go down.

Atsushi is great with kids. though, it is more of a product of growing up in the orphanage.

Kunikida uses some of his "teacher tricks" on the ada members (eg. clapping his hands to get their attention, turning off the lights when people are being too loud, and saying "I'll wait" when people are talking over him). And the best part is IT WORKS

Kunikida tutors the younger members of the ada so they have more options for their future. Sometimes he ropes Dazai and Ranpo into helping when he's not sure about a certain topic.

Dazai, depending on the day, can either be amazing with kids, or a child's worst nightmare. Even so, neither Kyouka nor Kenji have ever been afraid of him.

Dazai was a victim of csa (from Mori). He's never told anyone, though Yosano, Fukuzawa, and Ranpo either already know, or have their suspicions. None of them have mentioned it though, not even to each other. Instead, they have decided to let Dazai come to them about it if he so wishes.

Chuuya knows that something was going on between Mori and Dazai, but he isn't sure what. He tried to bring it up once right before Dazai left but was shut down.

One time a lower member of the Mafia tried to make a move on Dazai right in front of Chuuya. Dazai froze when the member grabbed his arm to drag him away. Chuuya noticed and kicked them right at their temple. That member is still in a coma to this day.

Dazai makes his suicidal ideology into a joke so that its not awkward for him to come back after an unsuccessful attempt.

She hasn't put much thought into it at the moment, but when she's older Kyouka comes out as aromantic.

Yosano, Ranpo, and Dazai go to the cafe every Friday night to catch up with all the gossip that they missed through the week.

Ranpo and Yosano have a sibling relationship. They make fun of each other for everything, but the second someone else tries they go for blood.

Atsushi cries himself to sleep a lot

Dazai on the other hand, can't remember the last time he cried. It's been years at least

Dazai's psychological abuse from Mori runs so deep that sometimes he finds himself saying or doing something that reminds him of Mori.

When that happens he usually retreats into himself for the remainder of the day.

It's even worse when it's something he KNOWS he learned from Mori.

Akutagawa doesn't hold a grudge for anything Dazai did to him (even though he would have every right to)

Chuuya got Akutagawa a therapist (on his own dime) when he realized just how bad Dazai abused him

The only people who know that Gin is a girl are Akutagawa (obviously), Dazai, and Hirotsu.

Chuuya, Akutagawa, and Gin try to have a family dinner at least once a week

Later on Dazai and Atsushi join them

Kunikida is secretly protective of Dazai. Although Dazai has never spoken about his past, it isn't hard to see that he has faced some type of abuse. Especially for someone who had to go through seminars for spotting it.

Dazai Osamu and the Armed Detective

I would love an animatic or fic with Dazai and the Agency with the song 'It's Alright' by Mother Mother. This would be where they find out about what his crime list in the mafia is and they don't treat him like a demon or and monster for what he did, but like a kid who grew up in the wrong place and had traumatic past. And while it goes on Dazai slowly starts to realize that they don't see him as he sees himself, but they see a kid that didn't have a childhood.

I just need to see this found family welcome him for he is like they did for everyone else. I want them to see him as a kid who didn't get to grow up like a normal teenager, going to school and not like the Demon Prodigy that killed others, abused Akutagawa, and many other crimes. I want the Armed Detective Agency to be able to see that even if he did Akutagawa, that's what he was probably taught to do in the Mafia, he was just doing what he was taught to do to his subordinate. I want them to tell him that he is human and that they care about him.

I want them to give a big group hug with Dazai in the middle. I want them to just realize he was a victim of Mori like Yosano was. I want them to just realize that he was too young for any of this to happen to him.

I want Dazai to realize that he can trust them, maybe not as much as Oda (and Ango) during his last years in the Mafia. To realize that being in the light, being a good guy is more beautiful than being in the dark. That having people there for you that care for you is much better than not being able to trust anyone in case of betrayal.

I want him and Yosano to talk sh*t about Mori and also vent each other when they remember what he put them through.

I want Kenji to talk to him about farming, how to do it, what the best time of year to do it is, stuff like that.

I want Kyouka and him to have simple conversations that have nothing to do with the Mafia.

I want Fukuzawa to just slowly embrace him and tell him it's okay if he needs to cry (albeit in an awkward, but caring way).

To Kunikida to verbally make sure he's doing okay and be a sorta therapist to him.

To Atsushi to willingly turn into his tiger to see if that'll help him sleep because of the fluff.

To have Him and Ranpo talk about absolutely anything that sounds idiotic to the others, but actually sounds logical to them.

I want Junichiro to notice if Dazai is pretending his emotions (Junichiro probably took Theater in school and could notice things like that) and talk to him when they're alone.

I want Naomi to ask for more tips and tricks from him.

I just want them to see him as Dazai Osamu, not the Demon Prodigy. I want them to treat him like his feelings are valid and he shouldn't keep them to himself. I want them to be there for him when he's having the su*cidal thoughts.

I just want them to comfort him like he is a part of their little found family. To just be glad he's trying to turn over a new leaf and change from when he was in the Mafia. Treat him like he didn't murder like they do with everyone else in the Agency.

Yosano & Poe friendship my beloved

just had a burst of imagination and now all i can think of is yosano and poe friendship

they have lil get togethers at poe's place where they drink tea and spill tea (mostly about ranpo, their co-workers, and maybe mushitaro)

they're like a little book club of sorts now because they are besties and poe loves to recommend books to yosano and yosano loves reading the stuff that he recommends her

poe also asks yosano for help when it comes to the medical-related aspects of his book like if a person can die from this kind of wound or how long will it take the body to decompose after murder or something like that

yosano ofc loves to help him out and even suggests ideas that could possibly make the mystery harder for ranpo (but they both know that's impossible)

(lol i can also imagine ranpo being unaware of all that happening and when he does find out he becomes this jealous little baby brat because he just found out that yosano is spending more time with poe than him

"poe-kun invited you for what?!"

yosano is also probably the only other person aside from ranpo who can drag poe out of his house so he can touch grass and get some freaking sunlight, especially when he's really deep into his writing and stuff

like she definitely drags him to go shopping with her

karl didn't really take to yosano early on because he probably found her creepy

but after she gave him some yummy treats during one of her first visits to poe, she became #2 on karl's list of favorite hoomans

(poe's #1 ofc and ranpo's...somewhere on that list surely)

ofc yosano loves karl very much.

i headcanon she has a secret love for really really cute and childish things and fukuzawa, ranpo, and now poe are the only ones who know

yosano can also be a bit really protective of poe given how shy and anxious he can be at times

she definitely became his therapist friend who helps him try to overcome his anxiety

in return poe becomes somewhat of a couples therapist because yosano amd ranpo would come to him to rant about the other when they have an argument or something and they needed to stay away from each other to cool off

poe doesn't get paid enough for that

he has heard things he really regrets hearing and shouldn't have heard

he also wonders why they come to him and not someone else like why-

he doesn't even understand romantic relationships that much but they're his best friends who he helped get together so he can stop suffering while watching them pine for each other so-

poe gives her so many amazing gifts too like

he definitely gave her a really cool and elegent knife set or something because she told him that her current blades were getting dull and rusty during one of their little tea parties once

they both know how to skate and they like skating together during winter and ranpo tags along although he doesn't knwo how to and just ends up slipping and falling over the ice

-he would honestly approach you in a quiet and respectful manner (because since he has feelings for you, the last thing he want to do is scare you off) he wouldn't even bother to ask if you're okay because he know you're not.. but he would ask if you need anything or need someone to share your burden with

-if someone harmed you (physically), the answer is quite simple, the person gets arrested for harming an civilian.. nothing would really change.. but he would prefer it, if you remain vigilant in order to avoid something like that again. He won't be overprotective or anything because he knows that this is sadly normal for aggressors to attack anyone they wish without any reason given..

Junichiro Tanizaki

-he's shocked, it's not like Tanizaki can't deal with emotions or anything.. it's more than that.. he has never seen you cry, so that's why it's a bit shocking to him.. one for sure he doesn't like seeing you crying (so he'll try his best to lighten up your mood)

-if he has feelings for you there's a 66% chance he would try to comfort you

-he would approach you nervously but with a bit of pride.. it would take him a bit longer to forme words but eventually he says "why are you crying..? Do you want to talk about it..?"

-if you do talk, he will listen carefully while trying to come up with something that could potentially fix everything

-if you feel stress, anxious or even upset he would try to make your life easier.. like he may show up to work with another cup of coffee/tea/hot chocolate and leave it at your desk, he may carry some of your paperworks around, he may pick up lunch for you if you're too busy... He always say he doesn't mind but, at least half the agency could clearly tell what are his intentions are (I'm talking about the fact that he loves you more than a friend) He would make sure you at least eat and drink while you're at work because he personally knows it's difficult when you're too stressed on to work.. if it does become worse he'll bring it up to Kunikida or Yosano..

-if you feel suicidal, have low self-esteem or even think your a failure, he would try to understand your point of view.. because he feels rude trying to help you without understanding the reason why you initially feel that way.. he would still try to make your life easier because after a bit of observation he realized that it isn't exactly easy to be organized or even have the energy to do anything while your feeling a bit depressed... He always tries to understand you, because sad human being that need to speak to anyone would rather speak to someone that would try to understand and never judge you what's so ever then someone who will criticize you and be rude... He just wants to be the person you trust because he's afraid that you won't ask for the help you need if he doesn't offer himself as an option...

Bungou Stray Dogs Matchup: I pair you with… Kunikida Doppo!

The two of you met through Fukuzawa, actually! You and Fukuzawa are fairly good friends and bonded through calligraphy. Though you and Kunikida bond through languages! Kunikida wants to be more versatile, so he’s in the process of learning new languages to help communicate with new clients!

Kunikida has nightmares himself and a bit of insomnia. Doing what he does would take its toll on anyone after a while. Though he has specific medication to help combat both. But he’s your rock in your struggles! Whether that’s sitting with you through therapy sessions with a therapist or simply lending you a listening ear, or just sitting with you while he does paperwork. He’ll be there for you no matter what!

This boy is definitely tall, 6’2” in fact! He helps the best he can with your homework, but he’s a math guy, so I don’t know how much help he’ll be. He’s also definitely responsible! He’s the most reliable of the entire ADA except for Fukuzawa and MAYBE Atsushi. He helps you get into a routine to help you get the optimal amount of sleep possible and will even cuddle with you if it helps you sleep. And we know Kunikida. He’s not a big cuddling man! He also happily deals with social interactions for you if it makes you happier :)

Sk8 the InfinityTokyo Revengers Matchup: I pair you with… Nanjo Kojiro!

This 6’1” hunk is an excellent match for you! It’s initially hard to get him to settle down into a relationship. Still, your personality lures him in, and before he knows it, he’s in a happy and healthy relationship with you! He enjoys watching you do calligraphy and even asks Cherry Blossom to help him learn it so you two can do it together! (He’ll deny ever asking Cherry for help, though, that’s too much for his pride to handle)

Joe also loves listening to you play music. He’s partial to the keyboard and makes requests if you take them for what to play. He also helps you calm down during panic attacks and makes you free food from his restaurant to help with your anemia. Also, cuddling with Joe would be the BEST. Like, I’m not even kidding. He’d be so warm and comfortable that it would be a crime not to take advantage of it!

He is definitely flirty. In the beginning, he flirts with a lot of people but as soon as you express your dislike for his flirting with others, he stops right away. He’s not the most responsible person, I mean, he owns a restaurant and all, but he really does help you make sure you aren’t up all night or are overworking yourself! He’s also definitely an extrovert, so he happily will talk to others for you!

Ouran Highschool Host Club Matchup: I pair you with… Tamaki Suoh!

The two of you initially met when you went to the Host Club and got seated with Tamaki! You were dared to go by a few people in your class but jokes on them; Tamaki is smitten! It’s the talk of the school when the two of you get together, but Tamaki protects you from jealous fangirls/boys and makes sure you’re okay above all else. 

Tamaki is definitely a tall guy! At sixteen, he’s already 6’0” on the dot and likely to grow at least a couple more inches before stopping. His aesthetic is brighter, so you help tone him down and chill him out, so he’s not as exuberant all the time. In return, he helps you befriend the entire Host Club! And he’s definitely a bit flirty. He likes seeing you blush!

It takes Tamaki some time to get used to you overworking yourself and insomnia. However, once he’s used to it, he quickly helps you get onto a schedule for getting more sleep and often spends the night at your place (or vice versa) to make sure you aren’t staying up all night. He also is a pro at social interactions, so he’ll step in when needed to help you out and handle them for you :)

Bungou Stray Thoughts - Pt.2

I’m back! With more headcanons and theories for Bungou Stray Dogs!

PREVIOUS: PART 1

~SPOILERS INCLUDED~

1. Fukuzawa’s Ability -- This first one is more of a question (which I am 99% sure is somewhere in the light novels...unless it was in the manga and it just flew over my head and never came into radar...)

How did Fukuzawa know what his ability was? Ranpo isn’t an ability user (honestly need a special name for his natural gift because holy smokes its amazing) so there’s no way he’d know through Ranpo. 

I’m guessing it has to do with either Kunikida or Yosano as they were the first two ability users to join the ADA when it formed. 

Or...maybe back in his training days he found out when assigned a squad to team train with? 

It’s just such a unique ability that requires other people in order to realize you have an ability kind of ability, almost like Dazai’s, if that makes sense. 

2. Kunikida and his ideals -- bouncing off the post talking about kids being orphaned because of the war... 

Headcanon that Kunikida is so intent on sticking to schedules and being so perfect with things because these are things that he actually has control over. He can’t control the post-apocalyptic environment they are living in and he can’t really do much about the violence other than work for the ADA and deal with criminals through the agency. 

It very well could be that he was orphaned/ abandoned as a very young child and somehow got into the academic route.

Instead of concentrating his frustration destructively, he dedicated himself to books and learning -- which explains his role as a math cram tutor and eventually going to college but dropping out after joining the ADA. 

Sticking to a predictable routine and fulfilling your duties/ paperwork/ homework/ whatever is almost cathartic in their world of unpredictability.  

His up-tightness is a sort of a sanity system for him, in addition to keeping a schedule and perfecting his character. 

He mentions in the anime (season 1 with the Azure messenger arc) that he used to cry so much when people died. He has that compassion and light-heartedness but being in a job that constantly tests him on that is seen to be wearing him out. 

But the certainty of his routine and his ideals gives him something to hold onto and not completely lose himself, even if it drives him to do some pretty extreme things *cough*like lose his hands*cough*. -- not the best way to cope but better than none. 

~I guess that’s why I kind of find it harsh when people judge him for being so uptight/ideal driven to a fault. Given their world condition, I’m honestly not surprised.~  

(Seriously, ADA, invest in a therapist I’m begging you) 

3. Kunikida and Dazai -- (being bold here and talking about their relationship as partners while only having read half of the Entrance Exam story lol) 

It’s been mentioned that Kunikida doesn’t exactly hate Dazai. Just that he finds the spontaneity and his complex nature off-putting for someone who seems to like predictability and certainty. 

I’m guessing it also may have to do with Dazai joking about dying and suicide and getting trapped in fishing nets and all. 

Kunikida is the kind of person who wants to see people live and he values life. To see someone joke about throwing it away like that is almost certain to get to him as it is an insult to his ideals that any life is worth living as you have a chance to make it better/ lives must be protected at all costs - no sacrifices. 

I’d like to also theorize that Kunikida lets Dazai get on his nerves to give Dazai a reason, albeit kind of insignificant, but a reason nonetheless to keep going on. By being the punching bag, Dazai at least has something to look forward to each day at work... (sounds terrible but hey).  

3.5 Dazai also does care about Kunikida and maybe does poke fun with him in order to act as a source for Kunikida to vent his anger on. He can read Kunukida far better than the other way around so he knows when and where to let Kunikida vent off his frustrations and how to do it without being too offensive. 

Ultimately, they are partners who understand each other and try to keep the other going but in the most weirdest, convoluted way possible that miraculously seems to work.

And it is a bit annoying when people reduce them to Kunikida hating Dazai and Dazai mocking Kunikida, because like you said, that’s part of it!!! But they also trust each other a lot, Dazai genuinely believes that Kunikida is a good man and I do think he tries to base a lot of his morals off of Kunikida’s (and Oda and Atsushi and Fukuzawa, but this isn’t about them), and I think that, while he finds Dazai’s antics annoying, Kunikida very clearly trusts and cares about him? Sure he thinks he could take things more seriously, but he trusts in his ability to get the job done when it needs to happen, and he even plays into his antics a few times! That fic does sound like them though, Dazai being Extra and Kunikida being exasperated because “you’re dying and this isn’t a manga (unless we break the fourth wall)??? Moving on a bit, I seem to have bad luck with friends??? If they don’t randomly stop talking to me if they’re online friends (not for mean reasons, contact just tapers off), then I’ve has like. I want them to tell him how much he means to them and shower him with love and affection. And listen, Atsushi is a Literal catboy but he isn’t anywhere near as chaotic as Dazai is, he isn’t a sadist, he isn’t a sugar addict, he isn’t,, The Tanizaki Family (TM), as far as Kunikida is concerned it’s a dream come true. atsushi is the Least weird in the ADA and kunikida appreciates him, im sure kunikida is the type to say something caring in a threatening voice and then play it off as something Logical like “make sure to not overwork yourself- good health is important for good work ethics”

Character Writing Meme

Oda

So in canon, Oda never smiles, like ever; he definitely has a broad array of emotions, for sure, but he doesn’t let either positive or negative ones outwardly show very much except in extreme situations ahaha. But it’s natural instinct for me to describe characters as smiling softly/a little bit, or frowning or whatnot, so I can’t help but write Oda like that as well, because I feel like writing him would get boring quickly if his expressions were never described like I do for others and if he wasn’t the pov character where you had his inner thoughts/emotions to make up for that (the original Dark Era novel is in his point of view, and it really helps you to get into his thoughts/emotions, some of which the anime carried over, so that makes his rarely-changing expression not as bothersome). I try to remind myself to keep it as lowkey as possible though (again, talking about fics not in his pov); he probably realistically has to smile sometimes, but I make sure never to overdo it and to keep that sort of amusingly nonchalant/unfazed outward personality Oda has at the same time.

When around Dazai, Oda is pretty much the only person who will let him go off on one of his crazy, dramatic, depressing tangents about life/death and wanting to die and all that, deal with that loopiness that is Dazai. In other words, he won’t ignore him or admonish him for acting like that, which nearly everyone else in the series who Dazai interacts with does. The only time Oda will interfere is if Dazai is directly putting himself in a harmful situation, but when he’s just talking, he’ll let him get it all out. I haven’t actually written much involving this aspect of him, but this is important about Oda when he and Dazai are together, that Oda lets Dazai be himself and lets him get out all his extremely negative emotions instead of forcing him to bottle them up even more, which is a good thing for Dazai to have. In this way, Oda understands Dazai better than anyone else in the entire series, but the key is that he isn’t aware how much he does (because Oda is so damn humble), and so Oda never takes further steps to help out Dazai, as good as letting him talk things out is. In short, Oda cares about Dazai (most likely his fatherly instincts showing through) and worries about him unconsciously, and is content to let Dazai be his strange self when he’s with him, letting him do his thing as long as he’s not actually harming himself, which is why they get along so well… but at the same time Oda will never try to actively play counselor/therapist with Dazai to attempt to help him more permanently, because he doesn’t think he can/isn’t brave enough to/just doesn’t really think to do so. Which leads me to…

…Oda is selfish to a degree, because he’s human, and selfishness is human nature. I’m only really talking about the situation with the kids, though. Canonically, after the kids were killed, Oda went on a suicide mission for the sake of revenge for the kids, abandoning Dazai, who still desperately needed and wanted him, and throwing aside any small chance of building a happy life back up for himself and eventually getting away from the mafia and fulfilling his dream of becoming a writer, and possibly taking Dazai with him and making him happier than he is now at the ADA. In that moment, all logic shut down inside of him, and he acted on his instincts, knowing he was going to die, all because he felt like he didn’t care about anything anymore, for revenge that was more for himself than the kids who didn’t even know they were being avenged, obviously. Of course I’m not entirely blaming Oda or trying to intentionally shit on him (I love him lmao), and his mental state then is completely understandable, but it still stands that he acted on selfish motives when he did what he did and got himself killed from it. He made a huge mistake leaving Dazai behind, breaking his heart and taking his best friend in the world away from him, and I’m sure Oda realized that once Dazai showed up, realized that there was so much he still needed to do for Dazai that he never had done and never could anymore then, and realized how much it hurt him too because of how much he truly cared about Dazai. When I wrote his death scene from his own pov, that’s what I wanted to show, him realizing how selfish he had been by doing this to Dazai. Because as much as Oda loves Dazai, he loves those kids more, not only because of just him loving kids in general, but also because taking care of those kids in particular he associates directly with his own “redemption” from his previous life as an assassin, so once they’re killed, he decides that everything is over, gives up, because their deaths mean that he failed in trying to turn over a new leaf, so he goes back to killing and decides to end it all, forgetting Dazai completely. Again, I’m not blaming his mentality, not blaming Oda for being so human, but that’s basically what happened, and it was selfish. So writing anything post-bombing, I think about this a lot; Oda is a genuinely kind and loving person, there’s no doubt about it, and he wants only the best for Dazai and the kids for their own sakes, but at the same time, if he feels like his morals/beliefs are trampled on/destroyed in any way so that he can’t uphold them anymore, he’s just done, and nothing else and no one else matters in his mind anymore. Dazai never would have been “saved” by his last words if he hadn’t approached Oda himself, and as good as the ADA is for him, he would be much better there with his best friend who understands him the most, if Oda hadn’t decided to get himself offed instead.

Dazai

First and most obviously, Dazai rarely ever lets himself show any part of his emotional side. If anyone tries to question his behavior or things he says worryingly/shows concern for him, he’ll try to brush it off with some lie about him daydreaming about a creative suicide or something. He’s worse about this overdramatic goofiness in ADA-era, despite being in a better setting, because he was more inclined to get gloomier/more depressing/deeper into his bleak mind with Oda, who didn’t mind any of his behavior. Imo Dazai is of the opinion that no one in the ADA really cares about what’s going on in his mind/his emotions like Oda did, which unfortunately most of them give the impression of (even if they don’t mean it, they really need to get better about it… looking at u, Kunikida), so he acts even more over-the-top in order to annoy them even more, so there’s even less of a chance for them to worry about him, ever. He’s not comfortable sharing how he really feels with anyone anymore, so he makes sure no one ever wants to ask or wonder (”oh it’s just Dazai being Dazai, as usual”). That being said…

I’m sure there are days when he’s worse, and it’s a lot harder for him to hide it in the ADA. Atsushi obviously is most likely the only person he will ever let himself be somewhat vulnerable around now, and Atsushi will try to help him but not push him too much. So Dazai might share some things, but not too much; probably not until he and Atsushi have been with each other for a long time. Obviously, anything to do with Oda will make it hard for Dazai to retain his goofy facade, particularly Oda’s birthday and the anniversary of his death, among other, random days.

Realted to the above, Dazai never cries imo; the most he will ever allow himself is for his eyes to get barely heated or watery, and of course only when he’s alone. The only time I believe he ever full-on cried was after Oda’s death.

To Dazai, Atsushi represents Oda’s legacy, and in some ways he tries to guide Atsushi in the way that he felt like Oda guided his kids, although I’m sure that he knows he isn’t nearly as good enough for that as Oda was. But Atsushi is definitely extremely important to Dazai for so many reasons, and I’m sure he would definitely do anything to keep him safe, and genuinely be terrified if he was in serious danger.

I believe that Dazai respects Kunikida highly despite how much he trolls him, because Kunikida is basically a mix of Oda and Ango, personality-wise and morals-wise. Behind Atsushi, he’s the person Dazai cares about the most in the present time, as much as he doesn’t show it.

Similarly, imo Dazai highly respects Fukuzawa for how he runs the ADA, and for his morals and how welcoming he is to new members, which, surprise surprise, probably also reminds Dazai of Oda. But there’s another component to it, and that is how Fukuzawa is versus how Dazai’s old boss, Mori, was. It’s obvious that Mori was emotionally and mentally abusive and very unhealthy for Dazai, but I don’t think Dazai himself really felt that horror until Mori “betrayed” him by setting things up so that Oda would be led into death, and then refused to help save his life; Fukuzawa, on the other hand, values every single life of his subordinates, whereas Mori would gladly sacrifice anyone for the sake of the entire organization (and himself), and I think that difference is something that was foreign to Dazai and hard for him to trust at first, but is now something he wholeheartedly appreciates and respects about Fukuzawa. That’s my headcanon, at least, and something I think about with those two (and thinking in general about other major differences in how the ADA operates versus what Dazai just took for granted in the mafia, and how little things might still take him off-guard in the ADA even now).
