Kevin Maguire and Joe Rubinstein Formerly Known as the Justice League #5 Story Pages 19 and 20 Original Art (DC)
Tumblr downsized the images quite a bit. The art is 7MP (https://comics.ha.com/itm/original-comic-art/kevin-maguire-and-joe-rubinstein-formerly-known-as-justice-league-5-story-pages-19-and-20-original-art-dc-total-2-original-art-/a/122114-11705.s) and the published spread is 12MP (https://viewcomiconline.com/formerly-known-as-the-justice-league-issue-5/) but both show on Tumblr as 1MP.

Actually 52 is pretty high in my recs for DC comics in the first place, it's essentially an "everyone" series, you'll see the JSA, you'll see the Metal Men and the mad scientists, you'll see Ralph's... okay it might not be a good place to start for Ralph. It's a really good comic to read just to see if a character interests you and then you can read more of them from there.

Hi! I’ve seen your booster/beetle artworks and I love them! Do you have any comic book recommendations about them and their dynamic? Thanks in advance!
LET'S GOOOOOOO!!!
Some samples I think would be good is Martian Manhunter (1998) issue #24 for shenanigans. It gives an idea how how silly and adorable they are. Mister Miracle 1988 issue #7 is similar!!!
I started with Superbuddies (I Can't Believe It's Not the Justice League & Formerly Known as the Justice League). It's really funny and Kevin Maguire's art is great. Boostle is strong "No Homo" in it, but it really just makes them look gayer. They're clearly both going through personal shit and their insecurities at full blast causing them to clash (which they both have a lot of). CW for grossness with Mary Marvel being sexually harassed who, unknownly to the team, is a young girl.
Those are shorter things that don't take much investment/time, but if you feel like you like the characters I'd go back to Justice League International (1987), check out Booster's original solo series from 1986, and beyond.
I feel like there's a lot of ways you can approach getting into them, but this would be my way at least. I just like silly guys that ultimately will fuck you up. :)
HAPPY READING!!!

Idk if you know anything about Ice from dc, but I believe she is also a Romani character? Since you’ve shared thoughts on Dick Grayson and Zatanna, I was wondering if you had any on her.
I do have thoughts, and they're not kind. With DC Comics, it seems like Romani identity is something that is only ever applied retroactively to validate a character's exoticness, mysticism, or sexualization-- sometimes a combination of all three. I'm not going to say that Marvel is necessarily better, but their inclusion of Romani characters is definitely founded on a better understanding of our realities, particularly in the Silver and Bronze Age. When you look at characters like the Maximoffs or von Dooms, you get a sympathetic portrait of European Romani history that actually makes valid and helpful points, in spite of the problematic imagery. Characters like Ice, Zatanna, and Nightwing generally only make shallow references to a gypsy heritage that confirms certain stereotypes about their upbringing, but has no bearing on their adult lives.
DC also has a stronger tendency to portray portray Romani groups as organized crime families, as we see in Ice's revised backstory, first told in Justice League: Generation Lost #12. In my mind, this is a much more dangerous stereotype than the usual witches and fortunetellers. Romani communities are heavily impacted by racial profiling and over-policing, in Europe and in America. It's one thing for media to present gypsies as a fictional race of fairy-tale spellcasters; it's quite another thing to validate very real state violence against a very real people by parroting racist propaganda.
Tumblr media
Anyways, Tora Olafsdotter, formerly known as "Icemaiden", now known as simply "Ice," was originally depicted as a member of a reclusive tribe of magic wielders from Norway. I don't know how overt this is in the original material, but I would hazard that she is actually based on stereotypes about the Sámi people. "Fixing" this backstory by making her Romani-- just in time to maker her family into overt villains-- is very similar to what happened with Magneto in the 90s.
The Romanifolket are a real Romani group, based primarily in Norway and Sweden. DC gets points for naming an actual vitsa-- most Romani characters don't have one at all, or if they do, it's fictional, like Doom's "Zefiro clan." The name "Is Bygd" is made-up, though, as are the clan politics of Tora's family. DC loses what little credibility they'd earned by representing the Romanifolket as an extensive crime ring who uphold scamming and thievery as a cultural practice. That's completely fallacious, and extremely harmful.
Tumblr media
In her revised origin, Tora is a metahuman, meaning her powers are a genetic quirk, similar to that of X-Men's mutants. Her fanatical forebears believe that she is a reincarnated goddess, and they wish to use her powers to, you guessed it, do more crimes. This reinforces the narrative that Romani people are ruled by their arcane superstitions and pagan beliefs, as well as the pervasive notion that we abuse children and force them into early labor and/or marriage for profit. Sound familiar? Everyone's favorite X-Factor writer loves that one. [x]
Tumblr media
Ultimately, Tora denounces her entire community as "very bad people." Generation Lost frames her Romani upbringing as a traumatic experience Tora wishes to distance herself from, and Romani culture as an inherent evil for which she seeks redemption. In that regard, she's not unlike Marvel's Amanda Sefton, but unlike Amanda, Tora's story is told without an ounce of nuance, and it was written recently. In the age of digital research, there's no excuse for this level of ignorance. The story of Ice is probably the worst Romani narrative I have ever witnessed in a superhero comic.

Ik good faith literary analysis on Formerly Known As The Justice League is generally a stupid idea but. I can't stop drawing parallels between Melody not wanting to commit to anything serious and Ted pushing Booster away when he thinks Booster isn't being serious.
Like the only thing Ted is serious about after he sort of gives up on Melody is Dan's legacy. And he continues to avoid being committed to anything else for a LONG time, up until he enters his "I'm tired of my body being subjected to violence" era and starts seriously thinking about his future: he wants to settle down and have a family. But Booster doesn't want to be serious in the same way that Mel didn't want to be serious. And The way he ices Booster out in Superbuddies is a lot like the way he ices Melody out in his solo. In both he's in a different era of life than the person he wants to spend his life with, but he's so upset & unhealthy about it with Booster that it genuinely seems like he considers it a sequel to the Melody thing. Like this is his second time being turned down. In this essay, I will advocate for retconning in a rejected proposal between Extreme Justice and Superbuddies–

The legal briefs are piling up in Florida.
In the coming weeks, prosecutors in the Mar-a-Lago classified documents case against former President Donald Trump must provide more information to Judge Aileen Cannon in compliance with her latest orders. The judge has questioned the “legal propriety” of bringing charges into her courtroom using an out-of-state grand jury.
In a separate setback for special counsel Jack Smith, Cannon struck two filings by prosecutors from the record. These unusual moves generated a torrent of criticism from legal scholars.
Aside from Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, Judge Cannon — who of Cuban American descent — is the most prominent Latina judge in the country. She is overseeing a historic case yet is on track to harm the judiciary system, democracy and her own reputation. Her partisan conduct is an embarrassment.
To understand why Cannon is unfit to hear Trump’s case, start with her ruling last week. In it, Cannon asked about the legality of using a Washington, D.C., grand jury in a Florida-based case. But this is normal procedure, as grand juries can be convened anywhere crimes may have occurred. As a federal judge, Cannon should know this.
It’s no wonder that her orders have earned widespread scorn from legal experts. Former Harvard Law professor Laurence Tribe called her approach “dopey and constitutionally dubious.” On X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, a former assistant U.S. Attorney wrote that Cannon “clearly shows her ignorance (bias? both?).”  And these were some of the kinder reactions.
This is not the first time Cannon has appeared to favor Trump. After the FBI searched Mar-a-Lago last year, the former president filed a civil lawsuit to stop the Department of Justice investigation. Cannon sided with him, in a decision that was overturned by the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals. In a scathing rebuke, the appellate court found multiple serious errors in Cannon’s initial ruling and decided that she didn’t even have jurisdiction in the first place.
These controversies matter to the Latino legal community because it is rare for a Latino judge to be in the national spotlight. In fact, Latino judges are rare. Though Latinos account for about 19 percent of the U.S. population, only 8 percent of federal judges are Latino. Of these, roughly one third are Latinas.
Cannon is part of a long tradition of Latino jurists, from Alonso Perales, who founded the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) in 1929, to civil rights pioneer Gus Garcia, who argued before the Supreme Court in 1954 to Justice Sotomayor. Cannon’s role in a hugely consequential legal matter could have been a source of pride for Latinos. Instead, calls are mounting for her recusal.
As she tanks her own credibility, Cannon is likewise letting the Latino community down. According to a June Quinnipiac poll, 60 percent of Latinos are following the documents case closely, and 66 percent believe that Trump handled the classified papers in an inappropriate manner. Like other Americans, Latinos want to see the rule of law applied with impartiality. That hasn’t been the case so far, due to Cannon’s emerging pattern of bias.
Cannon’s apparent fealty to the former president is as troubling as it is unfortunate. Look how that worked out for Alberto Gonzales, whose misplaced loyalty to George W. Bush led the nation's first Latino attorney general to resign.
Yes, Cannon is a graduate of the University of Michigan Law School who previously worked in a D.C. law firm and as a federal prosecutor in Florida. But in her current role, she is a legal time bomb who could blow up a case with immense implications for national security and democracy.
Consider that she had no judicial experience before her lifetime appointment to the federal bench by Trump in 2020. Or that as a prosecutor, she worked on only four criminal cases that resulted in trials, for a total of 14 trial days.
Reuters reports that Cannon made rookie mistakes in a trial in June, such as forgetting to swear in the jury, while the New York Times describes her as a judge “who will be essentially learning on the job.”
To borrow a catchphrase associated with Justice Sotomayor, Judge Cannon is no “Wise Latina.” She must recuse herself from the documents case, or prosecutors should seek to have her replaced. She is too problematic and inexperienced to preside over a criminal trial of Donald Trump.

DC: South | Titans South
Titans South, formerly known as Teen Titans South, is an iteration of the Teen Titans located in the Southern region of the United States. Much like Justice League South, they are unauthorized to be using the Titans name.
Unlike the mainstream Titans, JLS had no hand in forming the original team. Instead, it was Jaguar who sought out the original five members as aids in her quest for vengeance against her father, the crime lord Al Tylers. Over time, they began to bond and became a found family.
They are based in Atlanta.
Titans South 1
Leader: Minka Tylers | Jaguar
Members:
Roland Judge | Tsuru I
Nicte of Tenochtitlan | Typhoon
Alejandra | Tidebreaker
Rue Summers | Speed Demon
Knowing she couldn't face her estranged father and his associates alone, Minka set out to find others to help her. The first member of the Furious Five was Roland Judge, who was going by Tsuru. While she was annoyed with his personality, he was a good fighter and archer. Plus he had the money and connections to bail them out of trouble.
The next member to join was Alejandra, the chosen one of a tribe of Amazons located in the Yucatán Peninsula, who had journeyed to the outside world to continue the legacy of Stormbringer (Andromeda King). It was easy for Minka to get her to join since she needed help learning about the outside world.
Both Rue and Nicte joined at the same time. Rue was the sidekick of Roadrunner (Will Summers) and Nicte was the sidekick to Cipactli (Citlali of Tenochtitlan). Minka recruited Rue for his speed (and for entertainment but she'd rather die than admit that) and Nicte for his powers.
With her team assembled, Minka declared a full on war with her dad; emerging victorious once she killed him.
Even with her goal achieved, Minka found herself attached to her teammates and decided against disbanding them as she planned to do once Al was eliminated.
They decided to call themselves Titans South after a newspaper called them "The Teen Titans of the South".
Titans South 1.5
Leader: Minka Tylers
New members:
Mel Ortega | Darkheart
Ko'vi of Tamaran
Tallulah Moriarty | Wildflower
Reason for disbanding: Adulthood and differing interests
The next iteration of Titans South saw the addition of three new members: Darkheart, Ko'vi, and Wildflower.
Mel Ortega was Minka's childhood best friend. They joined to support her in her superhero career. Mel comes from a long line of witches who wield underworld magic, a type exclusive to their bloodline only. The nature of their powers allowed them to become the team expert on all things supernatural ranging from ghosts and spirits to Demons.
Ko'vi of Tamaran was a former cadet of Green Lantern Malaika Rose and one of the few Tamaranians left. He left to pursue his own path and ended up in Atlanta just in time to see the team in the middle of battling a powerful enemy. Ko'vi flew in to assist them, catching the attention of Minka in the process.
Tallulah is the youngest sister of Emerald Ranger (Sherri Moriarty). Inspired by her eldest sister's heroic actions, Tallulah operated as a small time vigilante in her hometown of Beaumont, Texas before heading to Georgia. Roland recruited her after witnessing her impressive marksmanship and skill with guns. Tallulah is the youngest member of the team.
Unfortunately this is also the iteration that ended up disbanding, but not on bad terms. Many of the members were now adults and had their own goals and motivations outside of heroism; Minka and Ko'vi wanted to settle down together for a bit, Roland was about to marry Jezebel Morningstar, Nicte and Alejandra had just gotten married, Mel wanted to focus on their blooming fashion career, Rue got an advance in his career, and Tallulah wanted to focus on graduating high school.
I have yet to plan the other iterations of Titans South but do know that Tallulah leads the next generation.
