Can I have 🐶 off this list w/ Rhea or Damian please??
Absolutely 🥺
New additions
Pairing: Damian Priest x Fem reader
Description: You and Damian go to an animal shelter and adopt a pet together but it leads to a second option
Tumblr media
You felt giddy as you stepped inside the animal shelter while Damian quickly texted Rhea before joining you smiling at your childlike joy seeing every animal and petting a few. The two of you had been together for two years and had been both talking about and wanting to adopt a pet together but due to your work schedules neither of you had the time always being tired from the training and physically exhausting matches that always seeped the energy out of both of you, you immediately fell in love with both a white Pit bull puppy that was so happy and loving and a orange tabby cat that was playful and calm purring wildly secretly knowing you would definitely get another pet later on not noticing damian watching you deciding to get both as you smile walking back to him showing the pup to him and seeing the cat out of the corner of his eye as you gently grab and hold the pup in your arms who immediately melts laying her head on your chest smiling big but the smile grows when you hear purring and turn to see the cat on damian's shoulders grabbing supplies and adopting them. You named the cat Macaroni and the pup Vanilla posting pictures of the two after bringing them home even taking vanilla with you to Rhea's smiling at how attached she became with Barry and Luna plus how friendly mac was with Finn's cat Twix always smiling at them sleeping at the foot of the bed together plus that you and damian were the ones to give not just one but both these wonderful animals a loving home where no matter what they would be wanted, loved, and cared for unconditionally even when the two of you were tired and barely functioning from the long training sessions and matches.

Isaiah and Mona~First Kiss
Tumblr media
Masterlist  Moodboard
A/N: Mona is Black. Representation matters.
A big shout out to my girl @blinder-secrets for editing this and giving me writing tips. I love you girl.
Mona was standing in the doorway of the Jesus household, watching Tabby and Jeremiah move around the small kitchen. They had a rhythm going. One was setting up plates, the other cups, Jeremiah grabbed silverware, Tabby pulled the food out of the oven. Mona wondered if Isaiah ever assist in helping make the meals, or setting up the tables, or was he in charge of clean up and what was the dynamic when his mother was alive?
They moved around each other with ease and deep in conversation. Tabby was telling Jeremiah about the colleges she was applying too. The conversation though continuous did not seem to distract them from their movements. Mona didn’t dare speak up, or join in, for fear of throwing off their rhythm. She was waiting for Isaiah to come home. The dinner was his plan, and yet, he was nowhere to be found. He was late, in fact he was almost an hour late and Jeremiah decided to go on and eat without him.
Tonight was supposed to be their third date. Their first date had gone well, better than they both would have expected and, much to his surprise, she had agreed to another. For their second date, he’d taken her to the pictures and to a small restaurant on the outskirts of town away from prying eyes. What surprised Mona most, was how easy it was to be with Isaiah. He never tried to force the romance or make her uncomfortable by staring too long, or over complimenting her appearance. Hell, he hadn’t even tried to kiss her. He was a complete gentleman. The most they did was hold hands across the table while they talked and joked about the Shelby’s. He told her about how country Michael was in the past, and she was determined to find a joke that made Him laugh. Though, she failed miserably every time; only earning an, “Oh no. That's just bad,” alongside the infamous, and totally adorable, disgusted face he made. Which may or may not be the reason why she continues to tell bad jokes.
So, this was the third date. Tabby had invited Finn as well, which annoyed Isaiah to no end. He stomped around the house like a toddler for hours after he found out. To be honest, he was embarrassed for Finn to see how soft he was in Mona’s presence. It wasn't as if everyone hadn't already been witness to the starry gazes they shared whenever in each others presence. This was, in fact, a popular topic of conversation in his absence.
“What time did my brother say they were supposed to be home?” Tabby asked, snapping Mona out of her daze.
“Half past six,” Mona replied, noting the clock on the wall.
6:55pm. Mona was beginning to worry.
She’d woken that morning with a terrible feeling that something bad was going to happen. She immediately called her parents, who were fast asleep. Then she phoned Isaiah at the shop, to make sure he’d made it to work safely. Michael had answered, seemingly annoyed - he was so monotone there really was no telling, before passing the phone to Isaiah.
“Are you okay, Isaiah?”
“Yeah? Why wouldn’t I be?” He asked, confusion laced in his voice.
“I'm not sure. I just have this feeling.“
”I'm okay. I promise.”
“Positive?”
“Yeah. I’ll be in the office all day, working the books with Michael. The only thing I'm in danger of is fucking boredom.”
“Be serious, please.”
“I am, I promise. Look, I gotta go. I’ll see you tonight, yeah?”
“Okay. See you tonight.” The funny thing about premonitions is that they seem to always come to fruition. She went through her day with extra caution still not feeling at ease after her conversation. She went through everyone she cared about calling and making sure everyone was ok before heading to work that morning.
The sudden and shrill ringing of the phone brought Mona back to reality. It rang twice more before Tabby shed her oven mitts and made her way to the phone.
“Hello?” Her face was indecipherable as she listened to the person on the other end. Aware of the silence, Jeremiah exited the kitchen to join everyone in the sitting room, all trying and failing to listen.
Tabby hung up the phone, looking at her father. ”Pop, Isaiah’s been hurt, he’s at the shop.” “Did they say what happened?” Mona asked, her voice laced with concern as she began to wring her hands together.
“No. Just thats he’s been hurt.” If Tabby was worried, she didn't show it. Mona tried her best to mirror her emotions. Afterall, it was her brother and if she was calm, then Mona thought it best not to get too worked up.
Before anyone had a chance to speak again, there was a knock at the door. Mona nearly jumped out of her skin.
“It’s me, Finn.” Mona, being closest to the front door, stepped forward to let him in. Finn’s face was flushed and there were light beads of sweat collected on his forehead and temples, and his chest heaved violently, as if he ran the distance from the shop to their home. He immediately pushed past Mona, making his way over to his girlfriend wrapping his arms around her and placing a gentle yet urgent kiss on her forehead. Looking down she noticed small bits of dried blood on his knuckles.
“He’s okay.” Finn said finally getting a handle on his breathing. “He’s been stabbed. He sent me here to sit with you while Jeremiah goes to the betting shop. A meetings been called.”
“Are you armed Finn?” Jeremiah asked. “No.” “There's a gun in the drawer of the side table, and one in Isaiah’s room. Just in case.” He gave Tabby a small nod before turning and leaving.
“Are we in danger?” Mona asked “No. I don’t think so.” Finn moved to the side table, taking the gun and checking for bullets.
Mona nodded in response, unsure of what to do or say next.
An hour had passed and still no word. The room was quiet as if its inhabitants were afraid to speak. The food sat cold and untouched in the kitchen still in the pots and pans from where it had been abandoned earlier. Mona was on her fifth cup of tea, from the looks of it she might make it to six. She was wired to say the least. Currently, she was pacing the length of the sitting room. She had been sitting beside Finn, shaking her foot frantically but he told her she was giving him motion sickness, so she took to pacing instead. Tabby sat with her arm hooked through Finn’s, resting her head on his shoulder while he sat with his arms crossed, and resting on his knees.
“How has she not gone to the bathroom yet?” Finn whispered to his girlfriend, earning a slap on his arm.
“How are you not more worried, Tabitha?” Mona asked frustratingly as she finally stopped pacing.
“Sadly, I'm used to it.” Tabby gave a small shrug “If it's not Isaiah I’m worried about, it’s Finn. After a while you learn to cope.”
Mona turned her attention to Finn,  “What happened exactly?” She was so on edge that she hadn’t thought to ask before now.
“We were on our way out the door, to come here, but Tommy stopped us. Wanted us to go and intimidate a group of thugs out of Peaky territory. Isaiah and I did everything we could to stay calm but, they were looking for a brawl. Next thing you know, a knife was pulled. And well, you know the rest.”
Mona stopped pacing and took a second to process the information. “Can you walk me to the shop? Please?”
“Isaiah’s orders were to stay here,” he said, looking to his girlfriend to back him up.
“I need to know he’s alright. You can stay if you want, but I’m going with or without you,” she demanded, raising her eyebrows at Finn. Mona wouldn't dare claim that she knew Isaiah well, but she knew that he’d be angry at Finn if she walked the six blocks to the shop alone, especially after dark. Finn looked at Tabby once more, to see if maybe she could assist him in convincing Mona to stay. But, she just looked between Finn and Mona, unsure of what the right move was. “Tabby, don’t you want to see if your brother is alright?” Mona asked, knowing exactly what nerve she was hitting.
That was all it took. Tabby looked at Finn and shrugged. Letting out a deep sigh, Finn agreed. “Fine, lets go. But I'm taking the gun with me.”
When they arrived at the shop, everyone was in the the sitting room of the house. There seemed to be a gloom hanging in the air. Isaiah’s shirt was on the table next him, and Mona could see the blood stains from where she was standing by the door. She searched for Isaiah, finding him sitting next to his father with his shirt off, looking at the wooden floor as he absentmindedly shook his leg. Her heart fell into her stomach.
Tommy ran down a list of tasks. Polly was standing towards the back while, on the other end of John, sat Arthur and Esme. No one seemed to notice them enter the room, until Finn cleared his throat.
“We need to strike now, and fast be-“ Tommy stopped and looked towards the sound.
Mona gave a nervous wave at everyone. She had met the Shelby’s, sure, but she had never been in a room with all them - it was really quite intimidating. She started the get the feeling that showing up was a bad idea.
Tabby walked over to where Isaiah was sitting, “Are you okay, brother?” “Yeah, I'm okay. Hurts like hell though,” he said, looking over to see Mona beside Finn.
Her eyebrows seemed to be frozen together. She wanted to speak, but everyone was there, watching them.
It’s as if Isaiah read her mind. “Will you excuse us please, Tommy?” Without waiting for a response, he stood, motioning for Mona to follow him through the doors to the empty betting shop. She nodded, and followed, only somewhat aware of the eyes on them.
Mona wasted no time, once the door was closed and she knew he was alright, she went from worried to irritated. ”I told you. I fucking told you. I had a bad feeling and you didn't listen.”
“You did, yeah,” Isaiah said, slightly taken aback by her harsh language, but also pleasantly surprised by how much she cared. He couldn't help the slight smile that began to form. He looked down at the desk next to him to try and hide his face.
Mona looked around, confused. “What? Why are smiling?” “You care,” he said with the smile still plastered on his face.
”Of course I care, why wouldn’t I? Stop smiling.” “I'm alright by the way. Thanks for asking,” he said.
“Yeah, but, what if you weren’t? What if there's a next time?” she asked, Mona’s tone changed from angry to concerned.
Mona knew Isaiah’s job was dangerous when she agreed to go out with him. That was the one setback. But, Isaiah liked his job and, more than anything, the status that came with it. Being a Peaky meant consequences to those who crossed him. Being a black man was hard enough and she understood that being a Peaky meant security for him and his loved ones because most people weren't too keen on having their tongues and eyes cut out over a racial slur. Besides, after the burning of the Marquis of Lorne, people had left him and his family alone.
Seeing the concern on her face alarmed him; he didn't want to be the cause of her stress. He knew she didn’t like his job, and to be quite honest, he was afraid she was going to end everything. Isaiah moved closer, stretching out his uninjured arm and placing his hand on Mona’s shoulder.
“Look, I’m alright. It's nothing, barely hurt. I promise.” She raised an eyebrow, as if to say “yeah right”, but before anyone could do or say anything the door swung open, and John entered. “Ok, let’s go, get your things. I’m driving you all home.” The car ride to Mona’s was short, and made in relative silence. The only conversation was between John and Esme in the front seat. Mona sat looking out the window as Isaiah held her hand. Once they reached her place, Isaiah hopped out first and made his way to Mona’s side of the vehicle to open her door. John looked on in the rearview, rolling his eyes at the sight. Esme just shook her head. “He’s being a gentleman, John. Wouldn’t kill you to try sometimes.” “Yeah, it might. Besides, you love me anyway. Can't keep your hands off me.” Mona turned to face Isaiah once they reached the front door. “So...” she said, hands joined together behind her back as she rocked nervously on the balls of her feet. “So. How about we try again? Tomorrow night, my place?” “Yeah, okay,” Mona said. She stood there for a second. Without thinking too much, she leaned forward, and placed a quick kiss on his lips. Isaiah was too surprised to react. He stood stiff as a board.
”Im glad you didn’t die,” she said, embarrassed, wanting to enter her home as quickly as possible. But, before she could, Isaiah grabbed hold of her wrist. “Can we do that again? Please?” He asked looking towards the ground.
Mona nodded in response. “Okay.”
Isaiah leaned in slowly and paused, waiting for Mona to meet him halfway. When she finally met his lips, he worked his un-injured arm around the back of her neck to gently hold her in place.
Once the kiss began, Mona’s nerves dissipated. Being with Isaiah was easy, they just seemed to fit. Isaiah, however, was mentally freaking out.
He had wanted to kiss her since that day in the Shelby kitchen, and it was finally happening. His arms went cold with nerves, his fingertips began to tingle, and his skin was covered in goosebumps. Mona’s lips were warm and soft against his own. He could smell the oils she used in her hair mixed with her perfume. She smelt of eucalyptus, lemons, and fresh water springs. He knew from this moment, that he never wanted to kiss anyone else.
However, the kiss was cut short from the sounds of John whooping and cheering from the car. “Whoo! Get it Mate!!!” Mona pulled away, and looked down at her shoes. “See you tomorrow, yeah?” Isaiah asked
“Yeah, okay,” Mona replied with a shy smile. She leaned forward to place a quick kiss on Isaiah’s lips, before taking a backwards step into her home.
“Hey, Isaiah!” Mona shouted as he walked to the car “Try not to get stabbed this time!”

Thank U, Next | Poe Dameron x Reader (1/2)
Prompt: High School AU
Fandom: Star Wars (Sequel Trilogy)
Words: 2791
Warning: Mentions past Armitage Hux x Reader, Ben Solo x Reader, Finn x Reader, and current background Finn x Rey.
A/N: I’m super late with the last three Writer’s Month prompts, but I ended up making this one longer than intended, like many of my fics, lol. Inspiration from the song Thank U, Next by Ariana Grande.
-
How long has it been since you’ve moved away from your hometown? Too long, apparently. There were some stores that closed down with new ones taking their place, buildings renovated and even a new road was added to cut travel time. Everything felt familiar to you, but also distant. You were born and raised here, but this was no longer your home.
When that invite for your high school reunion arrived at your apartment in the city, you debated whether you should go back. You had a lot of bittersweet memories there, but you were curious of what happened to your classmates. You’ve changed a lot since you graduated from high school and you hoped that certain people had changed for the better as well.
You went a week before the reunion, staying in a spare room of your mother’s new house. It was spacious and homely, filled with everything that your mother had always wanted, including a garden and a greenhouse in the backyard. Your parents had divorced a year after you graduated, something that had been a long time coming and they still remain friends. You could sense a heavyweight leaving your mother’s shoulders when the paperwork went through and you had helped her move out.
Throughout the week, you got situated in the spare room, making it your own for the times that you plan on visiting, as well as helping out with the garden. You always wanted one growing up, but your father was against the idea, claiming that it was too much maintenance that he didn’t want to do. It was peaceful in the backyard with fairy lights hanging around the patio. Oftentimes, you and your mother would drink a warm beverage and talk on the patio, catching up with each other and reminiscing. She had heard that some of your classmates stayed, some went to the military, and some even she hadn’t heard about in a while.
-
You were lounging in the backyard, reading an old book that you had in high school when an orange tabby hopped the fence and meowed. You bookmarked your page and sat up, seeing the orange tabby sit a few feet ahead of you, licking their paw.
“Hey, there, little one,” you said, reaching a hand out.
The tabby paused their cleaning, tentatively leaning forward to sniff your hand. When they realized you were good people, they rubbed against your palm and stepped towards you. Once they got closer, you realized the cat was female, her name tag reading Millicent Hux. Huh, you knew a Hux in high school. You had a crush on him for a year, and you remembered the whole school found out and he never spoke to you again because of all the teasing.
“Excuse me!” someone called out.
You turned away from Millicent and saw a tall and pale ginger man waving from the other side of the fence. He paused his waving when it registered just who he was waving to. You stood up with Millicent in your arms and made your way towards the fence.
“Armitage?” you asked in disbelief.
He smiled. “Yeah, that’s me. Lanky Armi,” he said with a shrug, “I didn’t know you were in town. Here for the reunion?”
“Yeah. I assume this is your cat,” you said, raising Millicent up.
“Yeah, I was about to take her out to the vet when she ran out of her carrier. Thank god she ended up here instead of hanging out by the road.” He grabbed Millicent from you, carrying her like a baby. “You look good.”
“You, too.”
He scoffed, shrugging off the compliment. “Still lanky and pale.”
“Are you going, too?”
He nodded. “I’ve seen a few of our classmates that had arrived earlier this week,” he said, hesitating to continue, “I, uh, saw Ben, too.”
“Oh,” you said, surprised.
From the way that Armitage said that, it meant that he knew or at least had an idea of what happened between you and Ben. They were close friends, after all. You never painted Ben as someone that cared for such gatherings. Sentimentality wasn’t his best trait. You weren’t sure how to feel about his presence in town.
Armitage cleared his throat, regretting about saying anything. “Well, I’ll see you around, then. Would love to stay and catch up, but this one needs her shots.”
“Alright, it was nice seeing you again, Armi,” you said, smiling, “And nice to meet you, too, Millicent.”
You walked back to your reading spot and sighed. Given the size of this town, you were surprised you hadn’t ran into anyone from school before now, and it was a pleasant surprise. Armitage was always tall and lanky, but he looked more mature and had a more lean build. He had always been a good kid, he was just easily influenced by others around him and you were disappointed that he had succumbed to it. He seemed to have gotten over that and you were glad that you could talk like friends, possibly making up for lost time. There was a classmate or two that you had ran into as adults that still maintained their immature personalities from school. You wondered how everyone else turned out.
-
Your mother had gone on a cooking spree on the first two days you were there and needed to restock the fridge. You volunteered to go grocery shopping but had to use google maps to find the address that the store had relocated to. Once there, the layout was relatively the same, just in a slightly bigger space.
While looking for a specific cereal brand that your mother insisted on eating, you heard someone clear his throat nearby. You wordless moved to the side, thinking you were in the way of something. You heard a soft chuckle before he spoke.
“(Y/n),” he said.
Your head shot up and you were met with a grinning Finn. “Oh, my god! Hi, how are you?” you asked excitedly.
“I’m good. Real good,” he said, pulling you into a hug. It was then you noticed a young woman around your age standing next to him with a sweet smile that showed off her dimples. “Rey, this is my old friend (Y/n). (Y/n), this is my fiancee, Rey.”
“Nice to meet you,” you said, turning to Rey.
She pulled you into another hug. “It’s nice to meet you, too. Finn told me a lot about his time at high school. He only has good things to say about you.”
“Well, that’s nice of him,” you said, raising an eyebrow at Finn.
He shrugged, wrapping an arm around Rey. “What can I say? I’m a nice guy.”
“I expect to hear all the embarrassing stories of him,” Rey whispered to you.
You smiled and said, “Oh, I have an arsonal full of those. Maybe we can meet up later. I’ve gotta get these groceries back to my mom first.”
Finn looks down at your cart, seeing beef, tomato sauce, vegetables, and other miscellaneous items. His eyes widened in excitement. “Is your mom making her famous beef stew?”
“Hell yeah!”
He groaned, thinking back to those times he used to come over your house for dinner and that first time he tried your mother’s beef stew. Ever since then, he always requested that she make it, or at least pack a container that he could take home and share with his family who loved it as well. His father would joke that two of you should get married once you two graduate, but marriage had never been a priority for you, and Finn knew that. You had different ideas of the future and respected the other’s decision for it, which was why your breakup was amicable and the two of you remained friendly and supportive of each other.
“I’ll see if my mom can pack some for you and Rey,” you said as you walked towards your cart.
Finn grinned, patting you on the shoulder. “I knew I could count on you. Rey, you gotta try it! It’s so good.”
“Alright, I look forward to it,” Rey said, “It was nice meeting you.”
“You, too,” you said, then asked Finn, “Are you staying over at your parent’s house?”
“Yeah, same house, too. I’ll be showing Rey around for the rest of the week, but you can stop by anytime to see my folks. I’m sure they’ll be happy to see you,” Finn said.
“Alright. I’ll see you when I see you, then,” you said before walking away.
You smiled to yourself as you left, having seen the way that they spoke and looked at each other. Their happiness was infectious and you couldn’t help but be happy for them. Your worries that you had before coming back slowly seeped away after pleasantly running into Armitage and Finn. Maybe it wasn’t so bad after all. You’re all adults now, surely it won’t be like that Romi and Michelle movie, though flying away in a helicopter looked pretty cool.
-
The park that you used to frequent seemed to have an upgrade with an added baseball field, more restroom facilities, an area with exercise equipment, and even a water fountain near the clearing away from the fields. You sat near the water fountain where there were painted picnic tables shaded by trees, a new journal and fountain pen sat in front of you as you brushed off the leaves from the table.
With your headphones on, you tried to get back into the writing zone that you’ve been hoping that your trip back to your hometown would help you with. When you left town, you went off to pursue your writing career, entering writing contests and having short stories published. Your new goal was to finish a novel. You would always start a story, but always got stuck on something and never finished it. Writing contests and published short stories could only get you so far and unless you wanted to keep churning out new short stories at a time, hoping that they’ll get through and be published, just to pay your bills, you needed to finish that novel.
You started small, writing down ideas, hoping that visually having them on the page instead of floating in your mind would help. Then, you took some of those ideas and jotted down plot points that the story could have. You continued this until you got into the flow of writing a rough draft for one of them.
Your timer went off, reminding you to head back home before it got dark. You finished your last thought before capping your pen and packing your things away. The sun hung low in the sky, a cool breeze rustling the trees, making you wish you brought a light jacket.
You got to your old car, you tried to open the backseat door that wouldn’t budge. It had always caused you problems like this, but you kept it because it at least got you where you needed to go. You sighed, yanking the door handle again before giving up. After years of forcing that door open, the handle looked like it was going to fall off.
“Still haven’t fixed that door, I see,” a voice said with amusement.
You turned to face the source of the voice and froze. Poe freaking Dameron stood in front of you, dressed in gray sweats with his military camp printed on the front and the side, dark spots stained near his armpits and his neck from sweat. He became impossibly more handsome since the last time you’ve seen him. He gave you a wide smile, one that made many of your fellow classmates swoon in infatuation at him and glare in envy at you, showing you the Poe you knew from school.
He briefly turned to open the backseat of his truck, taking out a hand towel to wipe himself down. “Back in town for the reunion?” he asked.
“Yeah. You, too?”
He nodded. “Everyone’s happy that I’m finally taking time off that’s more than two to three days. Apparently I’m a workaholic? Don’t know why,” he said with a shrug.
You raised an eyebrow. He definitely knew why. For as long as you’ve known him, once he got into something, he put his all into it. Joining a sports team? He’d practice during any free time that he had and become an mvp or team captain. Getting into music? He’d started a band that played during homecoming week and at school events. He even composed and wrote his own songs. It was his strongest and weakest trait. You loved his passion, but that passion would sometimes make him forget everything else.
“Huh, what’s your new obsession now?” you asked, leaning against your car.
Poe mirrored you with his truck as he wiped excess sweat from his hair. “Flying… it’s something that I picked up when I was in the military,” he said.
“Oh,” you said, looking down before clearing your throat to try and appear unphased, “What kind of flying?”
“After I left the military, I missed flying and travelling, so I got into doing helicopter tours in a few countries. Just a couple of years ago, I started to fly commercial airplanes. There’s a whole process with that one, but it was worth it.”
“That sounds cool. I know you’ve always wanted to fly those airplanes,” you said.
He nodded. “Yeah, funny how life works, right? You plan something, you end up doing something else, but if it was meant to be, you somehow end up where you had always wanted to go.”
“Yeah, I’m still waiting for that to happen to me,” you muttered.
“You got published, though,” he pointed out, “They’re short stories, but it’s a start. Your writing is amazing, (Y/n). I know you’ll get there.”
The corner of your lips turned up. There goes his award winning pep talks again. You didn’t know that he was even aware of the work that you’ve done. It didn’t do much for you personally, but you were glad that he hadn’t changed too much,
“Thanks, Poe,” you said, opening your driver’s seat door.
“Hey, can I say something before you go?” he asked before you could climb into your car. You paused, turning to face him. “Look, I know I should have told you that I enlisted, but I don’t regret going. I only wished that we had the chance to work it out, maybe take you with me if I could, if you wanted to. Or at the very least, parted on better terms.”
You avoided his eyes as you tried to find the right words to say. There were so many things you wished you had said on the day he told you about his enlistment. It was all too late to bring them up now. It wasn’t going to change the fact that you two broke up over it. You should at least clear the air, so there wouldn’t be any misunderstandings, though, but you were stubborn. You never wanted to admit it, but while your break up with Finn had been easy and painless, breaking up with Poe was one of the hardest things you had to go through.
“I… I understood why you did it,” you said, “And I should have stopped to think about your perspective instead of getting angry and I’m sorry. It’s my fault that we ended things like that.”
Poe sighed, knowing that there was more that you wanted to say. Another thing that you loved and hated about him was his ability to read you. When there was no reply from him, you climbed in your car, shutting the door harder than you intended. While you were turning the engine on and fiddling with the radio, Poe stepped closer, leaning a hand on the roof of your car.
“Could we meet somewhere?” he asked softly, “You know, just to catch up?”
You leaned back in your seat, drumming your fingers on the steering wheel. “I’m running some errands tomorrow. Does lunch at the usual diner work for you?”
Poe smiled. “Sure, yeah. I’ll meet you there tomorrow, then.”
That night, you sat on your bed, wondering why your heart was racing while thinking about tomorrow. It had been so long since you and Poe sat down and talked. Meeting him tomorrow meant that you would have to eventually address all the things that were left unsaid, all the questions that were left unanswered, and all the things that had happened after going your separate ways. You doubt that the two of you could start over, given your different career paths, but maybe you could at least be on speaking terms.

Fairytale of New York
Poe Dameron x Solo! Reader
Fandom: Star Wars (Modern AU)
Summary: Y/N Solo and Poe Dameron have been best friends all their lives, and dating since Senior Year, High School. They grew up close to each other in the outskirts of New York City, and moved in together in Los Angeles when they got accepted to college there. After graduation, Poe got accepted into the Air Force and now he’ll be gone over the Holidays.
‘I’ll miss you.’ Y/N whispered.
Her and Poe were standing in their apartment in LA, and Poe was about to leave for a mission with the Air Force. Sadly, he’d be gone over the Holidays, a very important time for both of them.
‘I know, and I’ll miss you even more.’ Poe said.
‘Not possible.’ Y/N chuckled, when a bark brought them both back to earth. Their two pets, an orange and white corgi named Beebee and a grey tabby cat called Koi, were standing by their feet.
‘Of course I’ll miss you too.’ Poe said, crouching down to pet them both.
‘You need to get going.’ Y/N spoke up, as much as she just wanted him to stay.
‘Yeah, I know.’ Poe stood up and gave Y/N one last kiss before opening the front door.
‘Please be careful!’ Y/N called after him.
‘Always am!’
***
‘Hi mom.’ Y/N said into the phone.
‘Hi sweetie. How are you doing?’ Leia asked.
‘I’m doing alright.’ Y/N said. She was sitting on her couch with her friends Finn and Rey. ‘Just called to say I think I’ll be staying in LA over Christmas this year.’
‘How come?’ Disappointment was clear in her voice.
‘I don’t know. I was thinking I might spend it with Rey and Finn this year, since Poe’s away with the Air Force, and they said they weren’t heading home this year.’ Y/N said.
‘Oh, but it’s so rare we see you now with you living in California.’ Leia said. ‘Say, why don’t you ask them if they want to come along?’
‘Are you sure?’
‘Of course. The more the merrier, and we have room for more guests then just Luke.’
‘Alright, I’ll ask them. One second.’ Y/N turned to her friends. ‘Mom’s asking if you two want to come to New York and celebrate Christmas with us.’
‘Works for me.’ Rey said, looking at Finn.
‘If it’s fine.’ He said.
‘Well, mom said it was, so.’ Y/N said and placed her phone to her ear again. ‘They said yes.’
‘Perfect! I’ll be sure to have the guest rooms ready for them.’
‘Okay great! I’ll see you at Christmas then.’ Y/N said with a smile. After a last goodbye with her mother, she hung up and turned to her friends. ‘Guess we all have some packing to do then.’
***
Y/N came to a stop in front of one of the houses on the street. It was quite large, plenty of rooms inside, Y/N knew. The roof was lined with fairy lights, there was a wreath hanging on the front door and candles were seen in a few of the windows.
‘Here it is.’ Y/N said with a smile, walking towards the front door, a Finn and Rey following. She opened the door, and Beebee immediately walked in, but he was stopped after a small distance because of his leash.
‘Hello?’ Y/N called into the house once she was fully inside, while Rey shut the door behind them. Dull thuds were heard from one of the rooms and the next moment a large, fluffy, brown dog was rushing towards the group.
‘Hi Chewie!’ Y/N said with a smile, crouching down to greet the dog, while a short, brown-haired woman entered the room. ‘Hi mom!’
‘Hello, welcome home.’ Leia said, giving her daughter a hug.
Y/N bent down to take Beebee leash off and let Koi out of her carrier while Rey and Finn greeted Leia. ‘Is no one else home?’
‘No, not yet. Your dad is out running a few errands, and Ben hasn’t arrived yet, he should be here by tonight, and you know Luke won’t be here until the twenty-third, so right now it’s just us.’
***
The day before Christmas Eve. It was about nine thirty in the morning, and Rey and Finn were on a mission. They had received very specific instructions, and now it was time to put it in motion. Rey opened the door to Y/N’s bedroom, finding the h/c girl laying in the bed. She carefully walked in, and jumped onto the bed. Y/N let out a yelp of surprise once Rey landed.
‘Rise and shine, bestie!’ Rey said. ‘We have plans for the day, and we need to leave by 2 o’clock if we want to make it on time.’
‘What? What are we doing?’ Y/N said, sitting up in the bed.
‘We have plans for food at three-thirty, so we have to leave by 2, and then we’re going ice skating at Rockerfeller Center.’
‘Alright, alright. I’m up.’ Y/N laughed, leaving her bed, and heading to her wardrobe.
***
Y/N, Rey and Finn had left the restaurant, and were lacing up their ice skates, Christmas music playing around the rink. It was starting to get dark, the little sky visible through the clouds was pink and purple, and light snow was begining to fall. While Rey and Y/N stepped on to the ice, Finn stayed behind and picked up his phone. Once he ended the phone call, he hid the smile of mischief spreading on his face, and joined the girls.
‘I’m feeling pretty done now.’ Finn said, coming to a stop on the ice.
‘Yeah, so am I. Should we call it a day?’ Rey asked.
‘Yeah, sounds good, I want to be home when Uncle Luke arrives later.’ Y/N said, and the group skated over to step off the ice.
‘Y/N.’ Rey said, a smile on her face.
‘What’s up?’ Y/N asked.
‘Turn around.’
Y/N furrowed her eyebrows in confusion, but did so anyway, and froze in place when she saw who was standing a small ways away. He was smiling, and a grin broke out on Y/N’s face.
‘Poe!’ She exclaimed, sprinting towards him. Poe caught her in a tight hug, both of them laughing.
‘Why didn’t you say you were coming?’ Y/N questioned once they released each other. In her surprise, Y/N had missed the arrival of her parents, brother and uncle.
‘Well, I kinda needed the element of surprise. I had a plan.’ Poe replied, taking a step back, before getting down on one knee and holding out a (gold/silver) ring with a f/c crystal sitting in the middle.
‘We’ve known each other, pretty much our entire lives. And I’ve loved you through all of that time. And when I left for my Air Force mission a few weeks ago, I realized how much I couldn’t bare the fact that I might die without you knowing how much I love you. Which is part of the reason, the other being that I just love you more then anything in the world, that I want to ask you, Y/N Solo, if you’ll marry me?’
Y/N didn’t think she had ever smiled this much. Or cried. She had tried to keep the tears at bay, but it was ultimately undoable. ‘Yes. Yes, of corse I will!’
Poe stood up, placing the ring on her finger, before picking her up and spinning in a circle. Once Y/N was back on the ground, she pressed her lips to Poe’s.
Finn had been grinning since Rey had asked Y/N to turn around, Rey could barely contain her excitement, while Ben’s smile had been growing since his sister was reunited with Poe. Both Han and Leia were fondly smiling at their daughter, happy for her and Poe.
‘You knew, didn’t you?’ Y/N turned to face Finn and Rey.
‘Of course we did! Pretty sure everyone did.’ Finn said, looking over to Y/N’s family.
‘Luke didn’t until we told him earlier today, but aside from that, yeah. We all knew.’ Han said.
Y/N laughed, wrapping her arms around Poe.
‘For the record, Poe.’ She said, looking up at him. ‘I feel the same way.’

Heart Strings And Melodies (Modern Musician!Poe AU) Part 17
Tumblr media
(Not my Gif)
Summary: Reader prepares for Poe’s return from tour. (A/N- AKA the continuation of part 16 that got too long- literally it was gonna end up at 5k or something. So it became its own part)
Pairing: Poe Dameron x Reader
“Okay, tell me what would make you perfect for this role?” Rey questioned, sat upright and otherwise looking rather stern and authoritative, apart from the hoodie and sweats she was wearing that broke the illusion.
“Well, I have a decade of experience in this particular field, which I believe would make me more than capable to take on this role and do it to a high standard.” You answered.
“See! You’ve got nothing to worry about!” Rey enthused, relaxing from the interviewer role she’d offered to play for the last ten minutes.
“I’m just really nervous, this job is just so perfect for me, it’s basically everything I enjoyed and I was good at from my old job with a little bit extra thrown in.”
“I’m sure you’re going to get it!” Rey encouraged.
“Thanks! One more drink?” You asked, easing Beebee off your lap then standing and beginning to head towards the kitchen. The orange tabby followed you closely, jumping up onto the kitchen counter to watch what you were doing.
“Just a coffee if that’s alright, I’m going to need the energy, got a 12 hour shift ahead of me.”
“Sure,” You smiled over your shoulder, “I don’t know how you do it Rey.”
“Do what?”
“You spend ridiculously long hours doing one hell of an exhausting job.” You explained.
“There’s good days and bad days. But you’re right it is exhausting… but there’s no other job I’d rather do, it’s rewarding as well, you meet a lot of people with some amazing life stories. Plus I have my pet projects on the side that keep me sane after the bad days.”
“How is your tinkering projects going anyway?” You wondered.
“At the minute I’ve been reading up on a few bits and pieces before I start the whole stripping and rebuilding process.”
“Sounds like you’ve got your hands full.” You replied as you began to boil water for coffee for Rey and yourself.
“Keeps me occupied,” Rey paused, “Athens really did agree with you two.” She added after a moment. You turned to spot Rey holding a hinged photo frame. After walking over and handing Rey her coffee, you smiled fondly at the trio of photographs from the day trip to the Parthenon.
“It did more than just agree with us.” You smiled into your mug of coffee before you took a sip.
“Hmm yes. Sex and a marriage proposal, Athens definitely agreed with you both.” Rey nudged you, offering a smile.
“I’m one lucky girl!” You sighed happily, dropping down onto the sofa. Beebee jumped up onto your lap, turned in a circle a couple times then simply dropped himself into his usual comfy position that he laid when on your lap. You scratched behind his ears as the cat purred happily. Rey picked several of the sweet treats you’d placed out in bowls on the coffee table then settled down on the sofa next to you. Eventually, after scrolling through Netflix, you and Rey managed to agree on a film to watch before she would inevitably have to leave for her shift. The time you had spent in Rey’s company the last few weeks, while originally an offer on her part to keep you company in Poe’s absence, had also resulted in your friendship blossoming. Coffee catch-ups, ladies nights while making dubious face masks from recipes on the internet and, sometimes even doing nothing special at all, but in all those hours you’d learned more about who Rey was as a person and vice-versa. You had grown to appreciate her company beyond that of a distraction from missing Poe.
Soon enough, although far too soon for your liking, the film had finished and Rey had to say her goodbyes. However, not before you’d made her a coffee-to-go to help give her a boost before her shift started. After clearing away the used dishes and glasses, you changed into your most comfy Pjs and dropped yourself onto your bed, a yawn escaping your lips. The laptop which you’d placed on the empty side of the bed jumped slightly. Beebee joined you a moment later, chattering loudly, impatient for your attention. He head-butted your arm as you laid back against the pillows. You couldn’t help but smile and fuss the tabby as he meowed and purred at you, letting himself flop down beside you on the bed.
“If you’re showing me this much attention, Poe will never get shut of you when he gets back.”
While it had only been a week long trip to Athens, when you and Poe returned home just over six weeks ago, Beebee never parted from Poe’s side when the chance arose. Beebee would rub against Poe’s legs and purr to the point where it sounded like a small engine was was in your apartment. Poe had loved Beebee staying close to him, although there were certain times when the tabby would become a slight nuisance. Sometimes you’d catch Poe curse as he nearly tripped over Beebee in the kitchen, other times the cat decided that it would be a good idea to sit in the bathroom, staring directly at his owner and meowing for attention while Poe was in a rather… compromised position. Nevertheless, Poe loved that damn cat no matter what. A beach wedding or honeymoon may have to be thought out carefully to accommodate the ginger tabby.
“Let’s hope he calls tonight, huh buddy?” You commented adopting Poe’s nickname for the tabby, you continued to fuss the cat with one hand, using the other to open up the Skype application on your laptop.
It was a little while later when the tone for a call came across the laptop’s speakers. You startled from your half-asleep state, your eyes darting to where the laptop sat, an image of Poe in the centre of the screen. Giving your eyes a quick rub with the backs of your hands, you leaned over and clicked to accept the call. There was a moment before the connection came through, but in a quick moment, there was Poe, smiling at you.
“Hey there, babe.” Poe greeted. He was in a similar position to you, lounging in bed, his laptop sat next to him.
“It’s good to see you.” You replied in a sleepy voice.
“Did I wake you?” Poe fussed.
“No! I was just… resting my eyes,” You shrugged, then added excitedly. “I saw your performance from last night, Poe sweetheart, it was beautiful.”
“So it did find you.” Poe spoke softly, a gentle, loving glint in his eyes.
“Via Temmin, yeah. I didn’t know you were working on something new?”
“Started writing a couple days after I left. I… I was missing you a lot, I used it as a distraction, and an excuse to think of you.” Poe’s tone seemed almost forlorn.
“I’m missing you too. To the point where I’m pretty sure it’s having an actual effect on me. So you better get your ass back here as soon as Dameron.” You warned teasingly.
“That’s the plan. Oh, hello buddy!” Poe grinned as Beebee wandered over to the laptop, seeing his owner on the screen. You laughed as the tabby purred and rubbed against the screen, until the screen got pushed too far backwards.
“Beebee!” You chastised lightly, shaking your head gently as you righted the screen.
“How’s the tour going?” You asked.
“Well. Really well. I’ve got so much to show you when I get home. I travelled a lot when I was with the Air Force, but travelling on tour, playing my music and visiting all these places I’ve never been, it’s been amazing. I just wish you could’ve been here with me. But I’ve got plenty of photos and a few souvenirs.”
“I’ve been there in spirit, rooting for you the whole time Poe.”
“I know, I’ve felt it,” Poe replied, placing a hand over his heart. “So just over one more week, huh?” He added.
“Even that’s too long to wait.” You complained, pouting slightly to be ever so dramatic.
“Oh babe, it’s not that long. We’ve survived four weeks apart, we can last one more.” Exhaustion was slowly creeping into Poe’s voice.
“You okay there Poe? Long day?”
“I’m good, little tired, but I want to talk with you some more.”
“God I wish you were here.” You murmured.
“Me too,” He sighed softly, “I’d get to hold my cat.” Poe rolled onto his back to look at the ceiling of the hotel.
“Just the cat Poe?”
“I want to do more than hold you babe.” Poe whispered.
“Poe!” You replied in astonishment.
“I didn’t mean that! Well… I kinda did. I meant that I really want to kiss the woman I love.”
“I want to do the same.” You replied, your expression soft and eyes full of love as you gazed at his image on the screen.
“The… first thing… or kissing?” Poe questioned curiously.
“Well I did mean the kissing but the other thing sounds good too.”
“First thing I’m doing when I get back is sleeping like the dead then-”
“Are you not sleeping well?” You interrupted, concern laced in your voice.
“It’s more that playing nearly every night and not getting back to the hotel until late, rinse and repeat, It’s pretty exhausting. Especially the travelling for hours on end.”
“Finn was saying earlier about you taking a break from playing at D’Qar when you get back, before you burn out.” You commented.
“Once I’m home, I’ll be fine.” Poe gave a dismissive wave.
“Poe Dameron. You need to take care of yourself first, never-mind playing at D’Qar.” You warned. Poe looked back over to the laptop, his gaze softening.
“If both my wife-to-be and my best friend think I should take a break, maybe I should listen to them.” He smiled at you.
“There we go, you’re learning.” You teased.
“I love you.” Poe’s voice emanated sincerity and affection.
“And I love you.”
Poe whispered your name longingly as he reached out towards the screen of his laptop. You did the same, your fingers touching the screen. The conversation between you and Poe flowed on for a further ten minutes until the both of you were struggling to keep your eyes open. Poe told you everything from the towns he’d played at recently, some of the unique diner’s he’d visited while travelling and how he’d managed to add a few more stickers to his guitar case.
“I’ll be home before you know it!” Poe enthused.
“You sure there’s no way of commandeering a jet or something and just coming home now?” You said jokingly.
“Pretty sure I could. Don’t think it would end well,” Poe shook his head, a smile on his lips before he added. “I best let you get some sleep darling.”
You sighed heavily.
“I should let you get some shut eye as well.”
“Just nine more days,” Poe said encouragingly. “I love you. I’ll talk to you soon.”
“I love you more.”
“Not possible.”
“Goodnight Poe.” You pressed a kiss to your fingertips then pressed them to the camera. You watched as Poe did the same, the last thing you heard was him wish you a final goodnight along with a whisper of your name in such a loving voice before you ended the call.
It wasn’t long before you found yourself stood waiting at the airport, at first you had prepared yourself for the week to drag on forever, simply to torture you in the fact that you had to wait for your fiancé to return. However, between helping both David and Ryan finalise a few minor wedding details along with searching for suits for their wedding, your job interview and, organising the flat for Poe’s return, as it had become slightly messy in his absence, the week passed fairly quickly. Poe still stayed in touch, a little less in the final week of his tour, although he was apologetic for it when you did manage to speak with one another. You told him not to apologise, you knew far too well that what he was doing was important. Since you noticed the beginnings of exhaustion showing under his eyes when you Skyped, you had been planning a relaxing weekend for his return, nothing but takeout food, Pjs and TV while curled up together on the sofa. Looking over the arrival times, you shrugged off the slowly drying raincoat and folded it over your arm, you wandered to find a seating area. Poe’s flight was not meant to land for another hour. Your gaze fell to the tall windows across the room. The evening sky was dark, clouds had rolled in earlier that afternoon and ever since, it had been raining. Pulling a book from your bag, you flicked open to the bookmarked page and continued reading from where you last left off. People came and people went from the arrivals area. People were reunited with their loved ones who were waiting to greet them, friends who’d been apart for however long were now embracing and laughing. You couldn’t wait until Poe walked out of the arrivals terminal. Your book almost seemed to make time pass even quicker, you were almost three quarters through when you placed the bookmark inside so you could take a break. You were disappointed to see that Poe’s flight had been delayed, you were certain it was due to bad weather since the rain was still pouring outside.
“Another hour… great.” You grumbled as you gathered your things in search of something to eat. For a while you wandered around where you could, stretching your legs and trying to keep yourself awake. You glanced at your watch as you sat back down on one of the seats near arrivals, 9:30pm. It was going to be a long wait until you and Poe would get back to the apartment.
It was some time later when you felt a soft touch brush from your temple down to your cheek. You grumbled in your sleep and shifted to try and get comfy. There was a soft whisper of your name by your ear. Then fingers slipped through your hair. A kiss placed delicately on your cheek. You grumbled again, your eyes blinking open slightly, your sleeping form disturbed. Everything was a bit blurry when your eyes first opened, but the world soon came into focus. A figure was crouched by your feet, their hands on your knees, thumbs rubbing small circles into your jeans.
“There you are,” Poe’s voice reached your ears. “Someone clearly couldn’t stay awake.”
“Poe?” You murmured. “Poe!” You squealed once realisation dawned on you. You rushed forward, Poe fell backwards landing on ass on the floor trying to avoid your knees hitting him square in the face. A gasp which turned into a laugh escaped your lips before you wrapped your arms around Poe and hugged him tightly. Poe’s arms wrapped around you, holding you close to him. He buried his head into the crook of your neck, you could feel him laughing.
“Hello to you too.” Poe chuckled, pulling back to look you in the eye, his hands reaching up to cup your cheeks, his fingers brushing softly over your skin.
“Sorry.” You whispered before leaning in to press your lips against his. The two of you stayed together like that for several long moments, expressing all the words you wanted to say, the ‘I missed you’s and ‘I love you’s. Poe was the first to break the kiss, his fingers were buried in your hair, he was smiling brightly at you.
“My flight landed late, makes sense you drifted off.” Poe pressed a kiss to your forehead. You pulled him into another tight hug, nuzzling into the crook of his neck.
“Let’s go home.” You whispered.
“Once you let me off the floor.” Poe teased, pressing another kiss to your lips before beginning to stand. You helped him to his feet. In one hand you took Poe’s guitar case and hooked your other arm in his and began the long trip home, a smile beaming on both you and Poe’s face.
The moment the two of you stepped through the threshold of the apartment, Beebee came rushing over, chattering loudly as he brushed up against Poe then immediately pawed at his leg. You took Poe’s suitcase and guitar from his grasp and made your way to the bedroom, placing them in the corner along with your own bag then rejoined Poe by the kitchen.
“Go get yourself settled down babe, I’ll sort us something out to eat.” You commented, watching Poe cradling Beebee in his arms. As Poe passed you, heading towards the living area, he pressed a kiss to your temple, his eyes holding deep affection. While Poe enjoyed some down time now he was finally home, you decided to reheat the soup you’d made earlier that day in preparation for Poe’s late night return. Stacking a few bread rolls on a plate, you balanced it along with two bowls of soup on a tray and walked gingerly to where Poe was sat on the sofa.
“Oh that smells great!” Poe enthused as you offered him a bowl.
“Thought soup would be easy to stomach after your flight. Might be easier to sleep on rather than a full meal.” You explained. The two of you relaxed on the sofa, quietly eating the soup and enjoying being close to one another again after the time apart.
“This is some good soup.” Poe commented as he leaned forward to grab a bread roll. You pressed a quick kiss to his cheek in thanks. After you’d eaten, it didn’t take long before the two of you found yourselves in bed, wrapped up in each others arms.
“I’ve missed this.” Poe nuzzled close, pressing several small kisses to the column of your neck.
“Mhm, I’ve definitely missed this.” You agreed, your fingers carding through Poe’s dark curls. Poe reached behind him, switching off the bedside light and cuddled you closer, his fingers rubbing small comforting circles into your side.
“Ready for a super lazy weekend?” You murmured, shifting so you could lay your head on his shoulder. You felt Poe’s fingers reach up to tangle in your hair, his thumb caressing your scalp.
“So long as it means I get to do absolutely nothing with you.” Poe smiled down at you.
“Absolutely nothing. The ultimate chill weekend.” You grinned. You felt a rumble of laughter bubble up from Poe’s chest. Several slow kisses were exchanged between the two of you before you both settled into the sheets. It wasn’t long before either of you drifted off into a peaceful night’s sleep, more importantly though, after all these long weeks apart, your lover was beside you, right there with you, no longer on a computer screen somewhere far away. He was right next to you. Just as you were right next to him. Where you both belonged. Together.

Apologies | Melody x Tabby
Tumblr media
Melody had been getting acquainted with her surroundings, the students and all of the media the campus had to offer. She came across the gossip blog and one of the submissions was about her fiancee, a student and her. Her of all people...she had just arrived and was already being spoken about? Reading into the article, she had a chuckle and even spoke to Finn about it to get a better understanding. She wasn’t angry, if anything she was understanding to his actions just like he would be if she had done it. Now, she just wanted to talk to the girl and apologize? She felt like she needed to. Pecking his lips, she went to the girls room and took a breath before knocking softly.

Finn Shelby~Has Good Sense and is A Good Friend.
Summary: Finn and Mona look for a present for his girlfriend and he tries to convince Mona to date Isaiah.
Tumblr media
After They left the betting shop Mona and Finn went to a jewelry store to try and find a birthday gift for his girlfriend. The walk over had been rather quiet and bit stiff. Finn was sure it had something to do wit Isaiah. Him and Michael had walked in on them and judging from the energy of the room something happened. Ever since Mona had been rather quiet and he was waiting for the proper moment to break the ice. Finn knew Isaiah was infatuated with Mona and wanted to get to know her better. He figured it was his duty as his future brother in law and best friend to plead his case for him.
Currently Mona was staring at the jewelry case at a green and brass jewelry set that was so ugly Finn questioned her taste levels.
“Mona”
“Hmm?” Mona hummed a response still never looking up from the case.
“What do you think?” Finn asked holding up a pair of emerald earrings.
“Bit much. Where is she going to wear those? The library?”
Finn shrugged his shoulders and put the earrings back on the counter.
“What about this ring?” Mona asked holding up a ring so discolored Finn wasnt sure if it was supposed to be gold or if it was rusty.
“No.”
“Why not?”
“Because it ugly”
Either Mona had no taste, which was hard to believe because she was always so put together, or her mind was elsewhere. Finn was sure it was the latter.
“So...” tired of the tension, it was time get to the bottom of this.
“What were you and Isaiah talking about?”
“The party.” Mona moved around the counter so that now she was facing Finn but her eyes were downcast on the case below her.
“What about it?”
“He was either going to invite me, which you already have. Or, he was going to ask me to be his date but, Tommy interrupted us so Im not sure.”
“What would you have said if he asked you for a date?”
“Honestly?” Mona asked finally looking up at Finn. “I dont know” and that was truth. She was conflicted. She didnt know how she felt. In fact she barely knew him. Having never spent more than five minutes in his presence didnt give her a lot to work with.
“what do you mean?”
“Oh Look!” Mona held up a pair of earrings. Ugly. Again. She really wasn’t taking this serious.
“She’s 16. Not a 30 year old prostitute”
“Fair enough. How about these?”
Finn rolled his eyes and exhaled growing irritated by Mona’s tactics “You’re avoiding the question”
“Am not”
“Are too.”
“Am not”
“just answer the question!” Finn raised his voice finally reaching his breaking point.
Mona looked up from the earrings she had been admiring with a mock innocence. “What was the question?”
“Mona!”
Finn fascinated himself. How could he remain so patient? He was sure it had to do with being Tommy’s errand boy. But in all honesty Finn had more patience and sense than all his brothers combined. He really was heading for Sainthood. At least thats what Polly tells him.
“No. Or yes. I dont know.”
Finn looked at her and raised eyebrows in a gesture to get her to elaborate.
“Look, Isaiah seems like a nice guy. But I dont really know him do I? She looked down and let out a long sigh before continuing. “But Finn, what I do know, I dont like. He’s killed people. And Im not sure thats something I can handle. Who’s to say he wont kill the wrong person and they want revenge? This either ends with him or mysef getting hurt or worse.”
Finn couldn’t fault her for feeling that way. He knew if anything happened to Tabby because of the Shelby business he would never forgive himself. He may actually kill Tommy himself.
“Plus, I know at least three women at my work who all brag about sleeping with him. Why would I do that to myself?”
Finn wasn’t sure how to respondz he knew Isaiah and Michael slept around. There was no denying that. But, Isaiah was his best mate and he had to do what he could to win Mona over.
“He’s never killed anyone”
Mona looked down momentarily, then back up at Finn with a questioning look.
“Killed, blinded, he’s still dangerous Finn.”
“Yes, Isaiah has slept around, I wont lie to you. He likes you, like properly likes you. Just get to know him. Business and women aside, he’s a good guy. He’s full on soft once you get to know him. Just give him a chance.
“Finn...” Mona said in a kind of whisper eyes still on the jewelry case below her
“Mona, you never know”
“No, Finn look, I know what you can get Tabby.”

Heart Strings And Melodies (Modern Musician!Poe AU) Part 8
Tumblr media
(Not my Gif)
Summary: After several weeks of Poe shutting the reader out, the reader tries again to get him to let down his walls and let them in. After some perseverance, things start to look up. (A/N- AKA, me being terrible at trying to draw out conflict and just fixing it -for the most part- perhaps a little too quickly- anyway, hope you guys still like it)
Pairing: Poe Dameron x Reader
Masterlist
“He’s still not here?” Finn asked worriedly.
“No. I can’t reach him either.” You stated as you dialled his number once more and getting only his voicemail. Finn rubbed his jaw, trying to figure out what to do.
“I’ll go stand outside and wait for him.” You told him.
“And I’ll see if I can get hold of him.” Finn added, reaching into his jeans pocket for his phone. You hissed as you stepped outside into the icy wind. It wrapped around your exposed arms, strangling your fingers until you could no longer feel them. Your feet slid on the icy ground even as you stood still. Your gaze was fixed in the direction you walked to get to D’Qar. Only the streetlights offered any light and you watched in the beams of light they emitted for a certain musician. Your stomach churned as time went on, still no Poe. You could no longer feel your arms, your fingers completely lost to you as you peered into the night. Waiting. You were shivering violently, your breath coming out short and sharp, white wisps disappearing on the wind.
“Come on Poe. Where are you?” Your voice was shaky. You reached for your phone, then struggled to dial his number as your hands shook. Voicemail. You rubbed your forehead with your fingers, your worry beginning to make you feel sick, or maybe that was because you’d been out  in the cold for so long, or maybe both. After taking a deep breath you dialled another number.
“Hey, its me again.” You stated, your voice trembling. “Poe hasn’t shown up to D’Qar, he’s half an hour late this time, his phone just keeps going to voicemail. Snap what do I do?” You didn’t even try to stop the sob that escaped your lips.
“If he doesn’t show up in the next five minutes, you head over to his and you kick down his door.” Snap told you.
“Okay.” You sniffed.
“Be strong okay? You need anything else, give me another call and I’ll be right over.”
“Thanks Snap.” You whispered, then ended the call. You continued to wait in the cold, your lips were beginning to turn blue and no matter how much you rubbed your arms, you couldn’t get warm. Suddenly you heard footsteps coming closer, you peered into the distance and saw the unmistakable shape of a guitar case.
“Poe!” You rushed forward, slipping on the ice and falling to your knees. You pushed yourself up and hurried to him, ignoring the pain in your legs and hands. Poe’s face was drawn and pale, dark circles surrounded his eyes, and his beard had grown out; he barely looked like the Poe you knew. The moment he saw you, Poe hurriedly took a final drag of his cigarette, removed it from his lips and flicked it to the ground.
“Poe where have you been? We’ve all been worried! And since when did you smoke?” You rushed out.
“Slipped into an old habit.” He answered, his words slightly slurred. He walked straight past you, heading towards D’Qar.
“Poe?” Nothing. “Poe talk to me.” you begged.
“Not now.” He whispered. Poe shrugged off your touch when you reached out to grasp his shoulder. As he entered D’Qar you paused outside, tears rolling down your face.
“Poe.” You whispered heartbroken. You wiped at the tears then reentered the bar. After returning to your seat you tried hard to stop the tears from falling, but you couldn’t stop them gathering in your eyes. David whispered your name, his voice filled with sadness. He reached out and took your hand, squeezing it reassuringly.
Your name being called caught your attention. You turned to see Finn hurriedly walking over to the table.
“Finn what’s wrong?”
“Poe’s been drinking, I’m trying to sober him up but he can’t go on the stage like he is.”
“Shit!” You spat out.
“Poe told me a while ago that you can sing.”
“Finn, no, I am not going on that stage!” You protested.
“Just until I can sober him up enough. Please! I’m begging you!” Finn looked at you pleadingly.
“Okay,” You sighed sadly. “Just… make sure he’s okay.”
Finn gathered you in his arms, hugging you tightly. You hugged him back, your forehead resting against his shoulder. After Finn walked away to go tend to Poe, you nervously stepped up onto the stage.
“Hey everyone. I’m afraid Poe isn’t feeling so great tonight. So I’ve been asked to come up here and perform and hopefully Poe will be feeling well enough to do his set in a little bit,” You sighed. “I’m afraid this isn’t going to be good but I’ve been asked to so… okay… lets get started.” You looked out at the crowd, your stomach churning as all eyes were fixed on you. Abruptly an instrumental began to play over the speakers, you glanced over to the bar to see Finn giving you a thumbs up before he hurried off towards the kitchen. You breathed a sigh of relief as the instrumental was from a song you knew. You eased into the song, your gaze focused on Ryan and David who were mouthing the words along with you. It was easier to become more confident when imagining it was just the two of them in the room and no one else. Your mind played over your first date with Poe, how he took you to Yavin and how the two of you fooled about on stage while you sung together. How you longed for days. Your voice rose and fell with the music, your eyes fluttering shut as you sung passionately. You gave it your all. Poe believed you could sing and you weren’t going to let him down now. Your eyes opened as the song fell away to its ending instrumental. Finn was at the bar, he held up one finger and mouthed ‘just one more’.
“Okay guys, I think you’ll just have to suffer through me for one more song and then Poe will be up here performing for your-wonderful-selves.” You smiled softly at the crowd. Once again, you sung along to an instrumental of a song you knew all too well, you were going to have to thank Finn several times over for taking note of what songs you knew. Soon enough the song was over and as you looked to the side of the stage, Poe was stood with his guitar, Finn at his side. As you stepped away from the microphone, Poe stepped up onto the stage. You grasped his arm gently as he came up to you, almost passing you, Poe couldn’t look you in the eyes, a pained expression was etched onto his face. Slowly you leaned in and pressed your lips against the corner of his mouth.
“Please talk to me baby… I love you.” You whispered. As you let go and was about to walk away, Poe pressed his lips against your cheek. Your heart was pounding as you rejoined Ryan and David at the table. That was the first time you said ‘I love you’. Even as Poe started his set, with a cheerful pretence he offered to the crowd, you couldn’t stop your hand from shaking, a by-product of forcing yourself not to cry. Ryan held your hand through Poe’s performance, trying to comfort you.
Poe was quick to leave D’Qar after his set. You hesitated as you watched him leave.
“I don’t know whether to go after him or give him space… I don’t want him to shutdown on me.” You spoke sadly.
“I think he already has…” David replied. “You’ve given him space for weeks, perhaps your best choice now is to go after him.”
“Do you think so?” You wondered.
“Go after him.” Ryan told you. Quickly you shrugged on your coat, pulled on your gloves and wrapped your scarf around your neck. You gave your friends a quick goodbye before grabbing your bag and heading for the door. Finn called your name as you passed the bar, you hopped back a step to stand opposite him.
“Make sure Poe’s okay. I’m really worried, I’ve never seen him like this.”
“I will do, don’t worry.” You grasped Finn’s hand over the bar and squeezed it reassuringly. With a shaky breath you offered Finn a smile before finally leaving D’Qar. This time you decided to take it steady along the icy streets, your knees were already beginning to ache from your earlier fall and you were sure you’d have bruises. Poe was much further ahead than you, you could barely see him in the dark but you could tell his shoulders were slumped. You were glad for the warmth of your apartment building when you eventually reached it. Footfalls echoed in the stairwell, you peered up through the gap in the centre to see Poe several floors up.
“Poe!” You called desperately. With a frustrated sigh you took two steps at a time, striding up the stairs in hopes of reaching him before he entered his apartment. Each time you called his name you were met with silence.
“Please talk to me Poe!” You pleaded as you looked up the gap in the stairwell to see the musician had paused midway on a flight of stairs.
“I can’t.” His voice sounded broken, filled with melancholy.
“You can Poe, see we’re talking right now, back and forth, just like this.” You replied. You watched as Poe shook his head before continuing to climb the stairs.
“Stubborn bastard.” You sighed. By the time you reached Poe’s apartment door, he’d already entered. You knocked loudly, calling his name. A quiet pawing followed by woeful meowing caught your attention. You slid down the door, your back to it. You could see a shadow beneath the door.
“Hey there Beebee. It’s been a while hasn’t it?”
The tabby meowed sadly, his pawing at the door becoming more insistent.
“I know Beebee,” You let out a shaky breath. “Tell Poe… everything is going to be okay. Tell him to come to the door and just talk to me. We can figure this out,” You let out a soft chuckle. “Tell him I’ll start doing a reenactment of Do You Want To Build A Snowman if he doesn’t come to the door. He hates that song.”
You heard something much heavier than a paw rest against the door.
“Poe? You’re there aren’t you…please… open the door,” You let out a sniffle, the tears threatening to fall. “I know things have been hard for you, and I know you haven’t come to me for whatever reason… but please… just open the door baby. Let me be there for you. Poe I know you’re hurting, you’re hurting real bad, I just want to be there for you, to help you so you don’t hurt anymore.”
You waited for some kind of response and received only silence. Slowly you turned and rested your forehead against the door, your hand pressing against the wood.
“I love you Poe. I wasn’t just saying it earlier, I mean it. I love you so damn much and seeing you in pain and seeing you hurting yourself, I can’t stand it. Please talk to me… at the very least just do that…you don’t even have to open the door.”
When you were met by silence again, you weren’t able to stop the sob that escaped your lips, nor could you stop the tears flowing down your cheeks. So you sat there, your head against his door, waiting for him to answer you, and all you could do was cry.
You felt a hand on your shoulder before you heard your name called softly.
“Leia?” You sniffed as you turned to see your landlady stood behind you.
“Lets get you off the floor.” Leia offered her hand to you. You took it gratefully and stood to your feet.
“He won’t answer me Leia. I can’t get him to talk to me.” You wiped at the tears still falling down your cheeks.
“Poe is stubborn. He’ll come around,” She spoke her words louder than needed, clearly wanting Poe to hear them. “Come with me, you look frozen.”
“Leia I can’t, I need to be here.” You debated.
“You can spare five minutes.” She pressed. With a sigh you nodded and followed Leia as she walked down the stairs. Leia guided you into her apartment, she gestured to one of the chairs at the dining table, a silent request to sit.
“How has he been doing with the rent?” You asked, watching as Leia stepped over to the kitchen and set her kettle to boil.
“Barely anything, sometimes not even enough to cover what he owes for a week.” She admitted.
“Hasn’t Han any way of letting him work?”
“He’s been trying to figure it out, see if he can shorten down shifts so Poe could have at least a days work a week.” Leia let out a soft sigh.
“He’s been drinking… and smoking. Leia, I’m worried sick.” You confessed.
“Have you asked him?” Leia wondered.
“He won’t talk to me, Leia, I’ve had no chance to ask him about it…”
“All he needs to do is listen,” She replied. “I suppose he doesn’t know you’ve been covering some of his rent?”
You shook your head.
“Before he shut me out completely, he didn’t even know that I was purposely cooking too much and giving him the leftovers so he had decent meals to eat. For all I know he hasn’t eaten properly in over a week.” You let out a shuddering breath, trying to stop yourself from crying. Leia placed a cup of tea in front of you then sat at your side.
“Tell him. Tell him that you’ve been helping to cover some of his rent and making sure he eats. And ask him!” Leia pressed.
“You think it might help?”
“Possibly. He’s going to find out sooner or later.” She answered. For a while you sat in Leia’s kitchen, slowly drinking your cup of tea and just talking with her. Leia changed the subject to focus on you, on how things were going at work and how your friends were doing; she then began to explain how she was planning some renovations for some of the older apartments. It helped pull your mind away from your constant worrying over Poe.
“Right. I’m going to head up to Poe’s apartment, see if I can’t get him to talk to me.” You stood from the table, brushing down your jeans, despite there not being anything on them.
“I hope you do get somewhere with him. Poe’s a stubborn bastard, but he can be reasoned with, for the most part.” Leia rubbed your back reassuringly as she walked you to the door.
“Thank you Leia.” You looked at her softly, a gentle smile on your face.
“You’re very welcome.” She smiled back at you.
You took a deep breath then let it out slowly as you stood in front of Poe’s door. You gave three hard knocks against the dark wood. Then you heard the familiar meowing of Beebee by the door.
“Poe! I need you to know something. I know you were let go from the garage, and that now you’re struggling for money. I… I’ve been paying some of your rent… so you can have money spare for food,” You sighed. “I-I saw how little you had in your fridge when your squadron was over… when I kept bringing you leftovers all those weeks ago… It wasn’t because I was accidentally cooking too much, I was doing it on purpose.”
You were met with silence. Slowly you sat against the wall beside his door.
“Poe… I have something I want to tell you… or rather ask… and I want to do it face to face. So… I’m going to be just as stubborn as you, I’m going to stay out here until you come and talk to me.”
On the other side of the door, Poe was frozen with shock. Snap had been right all those weeks ago, women always find out. Guilt filled him as he realised you were doing exactly what he feared you would. Trying to support yourself and him. His heart ached, it was only now he realised how much you truly meant it when you told him you loved him. He lifted his hand to the door handle, hesitating, he knew you would stay out there all night. He couldn’t stand it if you got sick because of him. Slowly he pressed down on the door handle. Your head snapped to the door as you heard the clicking of the door handle, you held your breath as the door gradually opened. Your gaze fell on Poe’s downcast expression as the gap between the door and frame became wider. His eyes were red and slightly puffy from crying. Quickly you stood from your sitting position and rushed towards him, you wrapped your arms around him, your fingers tangling in his long curls. You couldn’t stop yourself from crying, you had missed him being in your arms.
“Hey baby.” You whispered.
“Hey.” Poe held onto you tightly, his head falling to rest against your shoulder. Poe was the first to fall to his knees, quiet sobs leaving his lips, you fell down with him unable to hold his weight. You stroked his hair as he cried into your shoulder, his fingers were tightly grasping at your coat.
“It’s okay Poe. I’m here. Everything is going to be fine I promise.” You soothed.
“I’m sorry. I’m so, so sorry.” Poe whispered, his fingers tangled in the hair at the nape of your neck as he began pressing kisses to your neck.
“Hey, hey, hey,” You eased Poe away from you. “Take it easy.”
Poe leaned back against the wall, his hands wiped at the tears on his cheeks, he reached up and ran his fingers through his curls, then let out a shaky breath. He looked at you, a quaky smile on his face.
“Will you let me in?” You wondered, your hand reaching out to rest on his forearm. Poe gestured to his apartment with a tilt of his head, his brow raised. A chuckle escaped your lips as you playfully slapped him.
“That’s not what I mean, but I’m glad to see you’re making jokes again.”
“Baby, I’m so sorry. I was so caught up in myself that I didn’t realise… I was hurting you. I’m such an arsehole,” Poe held your hand gently. “I need your help. Tell me I haven’t fucked up too much that you’ll still help me when I ask… will you help me?”
You cupped Poe’s cheek and cherished the feeling as he leaned into your touch. Slowly you shuffled over to him, you wrapped your arms around his shoulders and cuddled him, a smile tugging at your lips.
“Of course I’ll help you,” You leaned up and pressed a kiss to his forehead. “Attaboy.” You added teasingly. Poe let out a soft chuckle.
“That’s my line.”
“You, Mister, need a shave. Come on, I’ll grab your shaver.” You tugged on Poe’s hand as you stood.
Poe’s touch drifted up and down your leg while you changed the head of his electric shaver. He needed to touch you again, after weeks of sleeping alone and not being by your side, it had taken its toll, he was desperate to feel you. You flicked the ‘on’ switch: the bathroom filling with the buzzing sound of his shaver. You cupped Poe’s cheek and got him to look at you, you offered him a tender smile.
“Lets see if that boyfriend of mine is underneath all this huh?”
Poe reached up and placed his hand on your forearm, his thumb rubbing small circles into your skin.
“Sounds great.” While you thought he was referring to the shave, which he was in part, his response was also referring to him being your boyfriend. That even after the total mess he’d made of things, you still considered him your boyfriend.
Carefully, you moved the shaver through Poe’s beard, emptying the hair that gathered in the blades into the sink. You moved his chin up to shave the hair below his jaw, once again emptying the gathered hair into the sink. Poe chuckled quietly as he felt clumps of hair drop down onto his lap.
“Stay still.” You warned. It wasn’t long before the beard was gone, only stubble remaining. Poe’s sink was littered with black hair. You crouched down in front of him, your touch caressing his sides.
“Much better, you look like you again.”
Poe ran his fingers along his jaw, feeling at the short stubble, he nodded approvingly, a sad smile gracing his face.
“You wanted to ask me something.” Poe spoke softly.
“Huh?”
“Outside… you said you had something to ask me.” Poe prompted.
“Oh… yeah,” You cupped Poe’s cheek gently, your thumb caressing his skin. “I’ve been thinking. I want us to move in together, and not because of money troubles. Poe I want to go to bed and wake up beside you. I want to make breakfast, lunch and dinner with you. I want to live my life with you, I want to be able to share our good days and bad days together. I want to move in with you… so can I… can I move in with you?”
Poe gazed down at you, he couldn’t help the tears that filled his eyes or the sniffle that sounded. He nodded slowly, a smile tugging at the corner of his lips.
“I’d like that a lot.”
“Really?” You wondered.
“Yeah baby, I’d love it if you moved in with me.” Poe offered you a gentle smile. You stood, a bright smile on your face, your fingers brushed from Poe’s shoulder up to rest behind the back of his neck. Poe leaned forward, his head resting against your chest. You held the back of his head gently as you rested your chin on top of his head. Poe’s hands drifted up and down your sides, gently caressing you.
“You fell earlier, on the ice outside D’Qar, are you hurt?” Poe whispered.
“I’m okay, my jeans are a little mucky and I’ll end up with a bruise or two, but I’m not hurt.”
Poe’s gaze fell to the dirty scuff marks on the knees of your jeans before his fingers went to your belt buckle. He unfastened it carefully then gently unbuttoned your jeans, pulling the zip down.
“Poe? What’re you doing?” You laughed.
“They need to go in the washer.” Poe stated like it was obvious, a brow quirking as he gave his answer.
After you shimmied your jeans off, a small blush working its way onto your cheeks, Poe stood and gathered you in his arms.
“You need a shower Poe.” You mumbled against his shoulder.
“Shower with me.” He whispered.
“Okay.” You smiled. Poe started easing your clothes off your body, pressing small kisses to your shoulder and neck. You shied away as you eventually stood naked in front of him. Poe touched your hip, encouraging you to step towards him. He hugged you, his arms wrapping around you to hold you tenderly. Your fingers travelled down Poe’s shirt, slowly unbuttoning it as you went, you then eased the shirt from his shoulders and let it fall to the floor. While Poe pulled off his jeans, you turned on his shower, your hand staying under the flow of water waiting for it to warm up. Poe wrapped his arms around your middle, he pressed his lips against your shoulder.
“I love you,” He whispered tenderly. “I wanted to tell you earlier… I love you.” Poe confessed. You turned in his arms and captured his lips in a passionate kiss.
“I love you too you beautiful idiot.” You then whacked the back of his head with your palm.
“Ouch! Hey!”
You tilted your head in the direction of the shower.
“Water is hot.” You stated, taking a step into the shower, offering your hand out to Poe. He took it, squeezing your hand gently and climbed in beside you. It was a slow, loving action, you lathering shampoo in your hands and cleaning Poe’s hair just as he did the same with you. Soon, the two of you just stood under the flow of water, you wrapped in Poe’s arms, your head against his chest. Poe ran his fingers through your hair.
“We’ll fix all this, I promise. We’ll sort out money for rent and everything, We’ll fix it all.” You whispered against his chest.
“We’ll fix it together.” Poe added.
“Together.” You agreed. Poe leaned down, his fingers easing your chin up, you met him in a long, tender, loving kiss.
“How’re you feeling?” You wondered as you stepped out into Poe’s living room, a towel wrapped around your body as you used another towel to dry your hair. Poe was lounging on his sofa, a towel wrapped around his waist. His head rolled to the side to look at you.
“Better, thank you.” Poe held his hand out, you took it and let him pull you onto his lap. Your gaze fell on the packet of cigarettes on his coffee table.
“Do you think you can kick a bad habit?” You wondered. Poe patted your hip, signalling for you to stand up. He then reached out and grasped the cigarettes. Poe hesitated as he stood in the kitchen, the packet in his hand.
“It’s okay.” You reassured him. Quickly, Poe grabbed scissors and cut the packet in two, dumped it in the sink and ran the taps. He let out a shaky breath then turned to you.
“I don’t need them when I have you.” Poe pulled you against him.
“I’m proud of you Poe.” You leaned your head against him. An abrupt gurgling sound make you look up at Poe.
“I’m hungry.” He confessed.
“Okay… and Beebee?”
“He’s hungry too.”
“Here’s what we’re going to do. You’re going to order two pizzas, and I’m going to drop by mine and grab the fish I bought.”
“Hopefully not while wearing the towel.” Poe offered you a smile.
“Obviously not.” You chuckled. After quickly changing into some of Poe’s sweats, then even more quickly popping downstairs to grab the fish from your fridge, you were once again back in Poe’s apartment. Poe was ordering pizza as you began cooking the fish for Beebee, the tabby sitting on the kitchen counter watching you intently, licking around his mouth, his tail flicking happily from side to side as you slid the fish into the oven. You stroked the ginger and orange tabby, Beebee purred happily at your touch.
“So what do we do now?” Poe wondered as he stepped over to you.
“We wait for pizza?”
“No I mean with you moving in.” Poe chuckled.
“I’ll speak to Leia tomorrow, get things sorted out with my tenancy. As for what we do about money, we’ll figure that out tomorrow. Tonight, we don’t worry about a thing.”
Poe’s brow furrowed, a shaky breath leaving his lips as his mind went to his money troubles. You hugged him tightly, your fingers brushing through his curls.
“You’ll be okay Poe, I’m going to help. Promise.” You leaned up and kissed him gently. It ended up being a quiet night, the two of you curled up on the sofa, huddled under a blanket as you ate pizza and watched a film. Poe kept an arm around your middle, keeping you close to him, a way of offering comfort to the both of you after spending so long apart. It was gone midnight when you both decided to head to bed. Poe kept you against his chest, his lips pressing small loving kisses to your neck. Despite the calm that had settled over the two of you, your relationship on the mend, you noticed Poe was still worrying about his financial problems as his hold on you changed every few minutes. You clasped Poe’s hand against your chest, pressing it over your heart, hoping the steady beat of it would offer him something constant to focus on. You closed your eyes, and for the first time in weeks, you slept in Poe’s embrace.
“I love you,” Poe whispered after you’d fallen asleep. “So goddamn much.” He nuzzled against the crook of your neck, his hold on you tightening. After weeks of constant worrying and lack of sleep because of it, with no comfort in reach -apart from Beebee- Poe managed to fall asleep comfortably.

Heart Strings And Melodies (Modern Musician!Poe AU) Part 4
Tumblr media
(Not my Gif)
Summary: Reader celebrates the holiday season: from Poe inviting her to Christmas dinner to throwing a small New Year’s party.
Pairing: Poe Dameron x Reader
Masterlist
“Guess who has two weeks off!” You exclaimed cheerfully as you dramatically opened Poe’s apartment door. The musician turned startled from his place on his sofa, his guitar in hand. Beebee hurriedly padded over to you, meowing impatiently until you crouched down and stroked the little orange and white tabby. Poe beamed when he realised it was you, standing and stepping over to you to pull you into a tight hug.
“Just in time for Christmas!” Poe enthused. A fortnight had passed since Poe had dropped in on you in hopes of cheering you up and making you feel better. Since then it had become normal for both of you to just step into the other’s apartment, usually just to say ‘hello’ but most times it ended in a mug of coffee and a lengthy chat.
“You have any plans for Christmas?” Poe asked curiously.
“Just the usual. Christmas dinner for one followed by binge-watching TV. And plenty of drinking.” You answered offhandedly with a shrug.
“You’re not heading home or anything? Spend time with family?” He pressed.
“I- erm… I don’t really have any family to celebrate with. So… it’s just me.” You turned your gaze away from Poe, a small frown working its way onto your face.
“Oh…Oh!” Realisation dawned on Poe.
“What about you? You heading home?” You questioned, hoping to get the attention off you.
“My dad is coming over for a couple days. I don’t get to see him often so I’m looking forward to it,” Poe enthused. “Coffee?” He added after a brief moment.
“Please.” You replied. After picking Beebee up, the small tabby had been pawing at your hand, you followed Poe into his kitchen.
“So how has work been?” You wondered as you watched Poe retrieve two mugs and begin making coffee.
“The number of vehicles breaking down has been unbelievable, I’ve been rushed off my feet dealing with dead batteries and blown alternators,” He chuckled, “The day shifts at the bar have been quite busy. I reckon people are getting together to have a catch-up.” Poe continued.
“They’re right when they say Christmas is a time for people to come together.” You smile softly. Poe gently placed a mug beside you before leaning against the counter with his own mug and taking a sip.
“So… look, I don’t like the idea of you sat in that apartment of yours all alone on Christmas day, so how about you come over to mine?” Poe offered, his hand reaching out to rest over yours. You thought over the offer, tilting your head side to side then taking a long sip of coffee.
“Poe,” You bit your lip, not knowing what to say. “I mean, It’s a nice idea and a kind offer but I don’t want to intrude on you and your Dad.”
“Don’t worry about it, really, the more the merrier.”
“I’ll think about it okay?” You replied quietly, your brow furrowing slightly.
“Alright.” Poe looked at you concerned.
“Well, I should get going, I don’t fancy leaving Christmas shopping down to the last minute.” You hummed, draining the last bit of coffee from your mug. You hugged Poe before leaving.
“So you reckon he’ll like it?” You questioned Finn.
“He’ll love it! You’ve got everything you need?” Finn inquired.
“All thanks to you,” You smiled as you hopped off the bar stool. “Oh here, if I don’t see you before Christmas, I got you a little something.” You removed an almost neatly wrapped rectangle object from your bag and handed it to Finn. Your name fell from his lips in surprise.
“You didn’t have to.”
“I wanted to,” You smiled brightly. “Have a nice Christmas.” You added after tugging on your coat and heading towards the door. Finn was still curiously looking at the gift, eager to know what it was, when Poe entered the bar.
“What you got there buddy?” Poe called before stepping around to bar to join his friend. Finn answered with your name.
“You just missed her actually.” Finn added.
“You’re going to open it before Christmas anyway.” Poe nudged Finn with his elbow, a cheeky, knowing smile on his face.
“Dude c’mon I can wait!” Finn tried to defend.
“No you can’t!” Poe laughed. Finn paused for a moment, pouting a little as he weighed up his choices.
“You’re right.” Finn looked to Poe excitedly, his fingers drumming against the gift in his grasp.
“Go on then.” Poe laughed again, nudging Finn. Poe watched cheerfully as Finn ripped open the wrapping, tossing it onto the bar counter.
“Oh she’s good!” Finn commented. He began to flick through the book in his grasp, his eyes gleaning the pages of the guitar lesson book, pages filled with tips and tricks while others were filled with sheet music.
“Oh there’s a note!” Poe noticed, drawing Finn’s attention to the inside cover.
“‘To back up Poe’s lessons. You’ll be a great guitarist in no time!’ Poe, I hate to say it but this girl of yours is really something.” Finn beamed.
“She really is isn’t she.” Poe replied tenderly, a soft look filling his gaze.
Christmas day arrived quicker than anticipated. You stood in the mirror, looking at your reflection. Nervously you smoothed down the sides of your dress, biting your lip as you silently questioned whether to go or not. With a shake of your head and smiling at your reflection, you gathered the gift bag that was sat by the door and left your apartment. Your courage left you as you stood outside Poe’s door. Your arm raised as if to knock. The moment you went to finally knock ended with you hesitating then drawing your hand back. A sigh left your lips as you stepped back.
“What am I doing?” You whispered. After turning and taking a step towards the stairs, you abruptly heard your name. You flinched then turned on your heels, a nervous smile on your face.
“Hi… erm… I was just going to grab something I forgot.” You lied.
“Do you have any butter?” Poe suddenly asked, hope in his eyes.
“Yes,” You drew out, your brow furrowing in confusion. “Why?”
Poe rushed out of his apartment, taking your hand and quickly heading down the stairs.
“I’ve run out. I was just about to drop by to see if you had any.”
You re-entered your apartment, heading straight to the fridge to retrieve a block of butter and luckily a spare bottle of wine that you had planned on drinking to yourself later that day.
“You’re a lifesaver!” Poe beamed.
“So… your Dad is here?” You asked as you walked in step with Poe up the stairs towards his apartment.
“Yeah, he arrived the other night. I can’t wait for you to meet him!” Poe enthused. As he opened the door to his apartment, Beebee was already sat waiting for the two of you, the small tabby padded over to you, rubbing himself against your leg.
“Beebee! Don’t do that buddy! She’s all dress-“ Poe stopped as he finally took in your appearance. “Wow… you’re all dressed up.” Poe’s jaw was slack, his eyes wide. You blushed softly, your gaze looking at Poe up and down and then immediately being drawn to the other man in the apartment. Both men were dressed much more relaxed than you were.
“Oh… I’m a little over-dressed. I’ll-I’ll go change.” You mumbled, taking a step back towards the door. Poe hurriedly took your hands to keep you in place.
“Don’t you dare,” He grinned. “You look beautiful!”
“Oh, no, please let me change.” You pleaded.
“Listen to the man, he’s right, you look beautiful,” Poe’s father took your hands then spoke your name. “I assume?”
“Yes, and you must be Kes?”
He nodded with a kind smile on his face, “Poe has told me a lot about you.”
“Dad.” Poe whined harshly.
Poe called your name lightly as he withdrew a small wrapped box from a cupboard in his living room.
“I erm… I hope you like it.” Poe nervously held out the box, a shy smile on his face. You gently took the gift and carefully removed the elegant paper. A jewellery box sat in your grasp, with a little jiggling, you freed the lid from the base. Your gaze softened as your fingers brushed over the necklace sat against the soft fabric lining. A slightly skewed silver heart with a bright blue stone encased in the corner hung on a delicate silver chain.
“Poe it’s beautiful.”
“Turn it over.” Poe spoke quietly, his gaze fixed on your face, anticipation clear in his features. You cocked a brow before turning over the heart, your fingertips brushed across a series of numbers. You spoke them in a whisper.
“It’s the day we first met!” You realised.
“Do you like it?” Poe seemed almost worried as he waited for you to reply.
“Oh Poe I love it, thank you so much!” You beamed. Quickly you stepped over to him and pulled him into a hug. After pulling away, you looked down nervously at the gift bag at your feet then began to bite your lip.
“Kinda makes my gift seem a little pathetic.” You mumbled. Poe cupped your cheek, making you look up at him to meet his gaze.
“I’m going to love it. As long as its from you.” He encouraged. With a sigh you picked up the gift bag and handed it to Poe. To distract yourself from Poe’s reaction, feeling bad for getting him so little, you removed the necklace from the box and carefully fastened it behind your neck.
“Hey, this is my jacket!”
You looked up at Poe, smiling softly at the look of confusion on his face. Poe’s gaze travelled across the brown leather jacket until they fell upon the left shoulder. He spoke your name tenderly as his fingers brushed against the embroidered symbol. You were shocked to see tears in his eyes before he rushed forward and gathered you in his arms. Abruptly Poe pulled back, gazing down at you ever so adoringly, he leaned in suddenly, pressing his lips against yours in a tender kiss.
“Thank you.” He spoke as he pulled back.
“Y-you’re welcome…” You whispered, completely shocked by Poe’s actions.
“Dad! Look!” Poe suddenly left you where you stood to rush over to his father. You touched your lips, a smile bursting onto your face, a blush covering your cheeks. You eventually turned to face the two men, Kes looking at you approvingly. As the sound of a timer echoed from the kitchen, Poe excused himself.
“I’m assuming you don’t know why the Resistance means so much to Poe?” Kes quizzed as he stepped over to join you by the window.
“All he’s told me is that it was a big part of his past.” You answered. Kes nodded understandingly.
“The Resistance is the nickname of a particular squadron in the Air Force.” Kes revealed.
“You’re saying Poe was a pilot?” You asked dumbfounded.
“As was his mother, Shara.”
“The only thing he’s told me about his mother is that she’d sing him a song when he got sick, its a very beautiful song.” You commented.
“He’s played his mother’s song for you?” Kes asked shocked.
“Yeah… I ended up getting really sick a few weeks ago. Poe thought it would help me feel better.” You answered. Kes laughed brightly, patting you on the back gently.
“He must really like you,” Kes stated. At your raised brow Kes continued. “Poe wouldn’t play that song for just anyone. Honestly, I don’t think he has ever played it for anyone before. It’s a song that’s very personal to him. Same with the Resistance, Poe followed his mother’s steps in joining the squadron after she left. When she passed away… he decided to leave. He’s been following his love for music ever since.” Kes glanced over his shoulder at his son, a proud smile on his face.
“I had no idea.” You whispered.
“Okay you two, dinner is ready!” Poe called from the kitchen.
“I’ll help bring things to the table.” You hurried over to the kitchen, picking up serving bowls and dishes and taking them over to the table. Conversation flowed easily throughout the meal, and it turned out that Poe wasn’t too bad a cook.
“So what do you do for a living?” Kes wondered.
“Dad!” Poe hissed warningly.
“I’m just curious!” He defended.
“Oh, I work in event planning,” You told him. “But I mainly do the paperwork, so I’m just a glorified administrator.”
“You’re hoping to get promoted in the New Year though.” Poe added. Kes looked between the two of you, a smile tugging at his lips.
“Well, I hate to cut this short son, but I should be heading back home.”
“You sure Dad? Its pretty late, you can leave in the morning.”
“No, I think I’ve taken up enough of your time. I’ll head to the station.”
“Well at least let me walk you there.” Poe contended.
“I’ll come too.” You added.
“I’ll go grab my coat and suitcase.”
You and Poe stood at the platform until Kes’ train disappeared from sight.
“On one hand, I’m glad I came to see your Dad off, on the other, I’m really regretting the shoes I’m wearing.” You mentioned. Poe chuckled lightly.
“You can cling to my arm if you want.” Poe responded. You shivered as the winter air wrapped around you the instant you stepped out onto the street. Taking up on Poe’s offer, you held onto his arm as the two of you started on the long walk back to your apartment block.
“Kes told me about the Resistance, and your mother.”
Poe nodded slowly.
“It’s why I reacted the way I did… with the jacket.” Poe brushed his fingers against the embroidered Resistance symbol on his shoulder.
“Speaking of, how did you get my jacket?” Poe cocked a brow.
“Courtesy of Finn.” You grinned.
“I wondered why he suddenly dropped by then left.” Poe chuckled.
“Hey, erm, David and Ryan are coming over on New Year’s Eve, I’m holding a little party, I was hoping you’d come by and join us.” You glanced up at Poe.
“I’d love to.” He replied simply. There was a brief moment when your gaze met Poe’s, a tender look shared between you, a smile on each of your faces. Though the moment was only brief, as the next moment your feet went out from under you, your shoes slipping on a patch of ice. You let out a surprised cry as your dropped, though before you could hit the ground, Poe managed to haul you to your feet, pulling you against his side to keep you steady.
“You okay?”
“Yeah, I’m fine.” You gave him a quick thumbs up. The two of you shared a deep laugh as you finally started walking again. After you entered the apartment building and trekked the long walk to your floor, you shuddered while you stamped your feet on the floor, trying to regain feeling in your legs and toes, as you stood outside your apartment door.
“Poe,” You caught his attention before he headed for the stairs. “Would you like to stay over tonight? I have a bottle of wine, and I baked yesterday so I have a chocolate cake that’s just begging to be eaten.”
“Sounds perfect!” Poe beamed. The rest of the day went by far too quickly, however it did so in comfort as you and Poe were curled up on your sofa watching TV, while Beebee padded around inspecting your apartment before finally coming to settle on Poe’s lap.
“I heard you spent Christmas with a certain musician.” Ryan teased.
“So?” You shrugged.
“You like him.” David nudged you.
“Fuck off.” You whined.
“So when is he coming over?”
“Who said I invited him?” You challenged.
“Because you like him, so of course you invited him.”
“And if I haven’t?” You cocked a brow. Then a knocking sound came from your door. David and Ryan gave you a knowing look.
“Knock it off.” You complained as you headed for the door. You were greeted by a smiling Poe, his orange and white tabby in his arms.
“I hope you don’t mind, Beebee doesn’t like fireworks.”
“Oh not at all, come on in.” You gesture for Poe to join David and Ryan.
“Hey guys, how’s it going?” Poe called.
“We’re great, you?”
“Really good.” Poe quickly glanced at you as he answered. He let Beebee jump down from his arms as you approached him with a glass of champagne in hand.
“I like this.” You complimented, your fingers brushing against the knitted sweater he was wearing.
“Thanks.” Poe smiled down at you.
“How was your Christmas Poe?” David questioned as he and Ryan stepped over to join the two of you.
“It was really good thanks, my Dad came over for a couple days, work has been pretty steady and what I think you’ll like to hear the most, I’ve been working on a few new songs.” Poe told cheerfully.
“Oooh great! We couldn’t convince you to play for us could we?” Ryan wondered hopefully.
“Well… sure… I mean I’d have to go upstairs and grab my guitar-“
“No, Poe you’re not a performing monkey.” You scowled at Ryan.
“I don’t mind, here, I’ll be two minutes.” Poe reassured, as he started to head to the door you grasped his hand.
“Please stay here Poe.” You pleaded.
“Maybe another time.” Ryan conceded.
“Sure.” Poe smiled. With a sad sigh you stepped over to the window, sipping on your glass of champagne.
“I’m sorry,” You whispered as Poe joined your side. “If you want to get your guitar please go ahead, I know how much you love to play. I just don’t want David and Ryan to think you’ll perform,” You clicked your fingers. “At the drop of a hat.”
Poe wrapped his arm would your waist then pressed a kiss to the top of your head. He rested his cheek against the top of your head as he spoke.
“Thanks. I do love to play, but for tonight, I just want to be me, not Poe the musician. I just want to spend a night with you… and David and Ryan, just chatting and having a laugh.” Poe whispered. He squeezed your hand reassuringly.
“You guys fancy playing a game?” You called over your shoulder.
“As long as it’s Big Mouth!” Ryan cheered. You burst out laughing.
“Okay I’ll get the adult phrase cards.” You couldn’t stop laughing as you pulled the game out from the cupboard.
“Right… what is Big Mouth?” Poe asked curiously, wondering why you were all so amused.
“Just wait. We’ll go into the new year dying of laughter.” David chuckled. Soon enough the four of your were almost rolling on the floor in laughter so hard you had tears rolling down your cheek.
“This is just too good!” You cried out, holding your aching stomach as you laughed some more. Beebee was happily snoozing on your sofa behind you and Poe, despite all the loud laughter from the group. A firework startled Beebee awake, the tabby emitting a startled sound before jumping from the sofa and shuffling underneath.
“What time is it?” David questioned after removing the plastic mouthpiece.
“Erm… ooh its nearly midnight!” Ryan enthused. The four of you stood, retrieving your glasses of champagne before heading towards the small balcony of your apartment. You shivered harshly as the winter air bit at your cheeks after you opened the glass doors.
“Here.” Poe shrugged off his sweater, then helped you to tug it on.
“Thank you.” You smiled softly at him. When Poe began to shiver, you shuffled to his side to offer him some of the warmth.
“Ten… Nine… Eight.” Ryan called out, looking down at his watch. The four of you finished the countdown, cheering loudly when the clock turned twelve.
“Happy New Year David.”
“Happy New Year Ryan.”
You watched as David and Ryan embraced, a bright smile on their faces as they parted then leaned in to one another to share a loving kiss. With a gentle smile on your face, you turned to look at Poe.
“Happy New Year Poe.”
“Happy New Year,” Poe whispered your name. He gently reached out and cupped your jaw, rubbing his thumb across your cheek. As you leaned into his touch, you raised your hand, the sleeve of his sweater covering half of your fingers, then cupped his jaw, your thumb trying to caress his cheek too. You shared a soft smile before hesitantly leaning in towards him. Poe whispered your name once there was but a hairs width distance between the two of you. Poe leaned in, hesitating. You did the same, leaning in just that little but hesitating at the last moment. You could feel Poe’s warm breath on your lips, just as he could feel yours on his. Tenderly, Poe pressed his lips against yours, your eyes fluttered shut as he kissed you softly, lovingly. Poe pulled back, he looked down at you through his lashes, his head tilting slightly in silent question. You smiled before leaning in, sealing your lips over his. You returned the soft, loving kiss he’d given you but a moment ago. Poe then deepened the kiss, his arms coming to wrap around you. Your fingers traveled up to run through his messy curls as you continued to kiss him. So there the two of you stood, the cold New Year air wrapping around you both as you kissed, the world around you long forgotten.

Heart Strings And Melodies (Modern Musician!Poe AU) Part 11
Tumblr media
(Not my Gif)
Summary: Several weeks since the mugging, the reader has more or less recovered, although things at her work aren’t as good as she had hoped. Poe finds what he’s been hoping for, for years.
Pairing: Poe Dameron x Reader
Masterlist
When Poe walked through the door, he noticed it was uncharacteristically quiet. He was greeted by Beebee, who pawed at his ankle until he picked him up.
“Hey Beebee.” Poe gently stroked the tabby’s head, chuckling softly as the cat purred and nuzzled against his cheek. Beebee jumped from Poe’s arms, meowed then padded over towards the living room. Poe gently shrugged off his leather jacket and hooked it up beside the door; his fingers brushing over the Resistance symbol embroidered on the shoulder, a fond smile creeping onto his face. He stepped towards the kitchen, grabbing a glass from the drainer and filling it with cool water before taking a sip. His gaze fell on the sofa, his brow furrowing curiously as he saw you curled up, a miserable look on your face.
“Long day?” Poe called. You hummed in agreement. Poe tilted his head while he watched as you curled tighter in on yourself and a soft sigh escaped your lips. Poe moved around the kitchen, grabbing a packet of chocolate covered biscuits from the cupboard then making two cups of coffee. He looked over his shoulder to see you had turned to face the back of the sofa. With a soft smile on his face, Poe retrieved a can of spray cream from the fridge, topping off the coffee with a swirl and adding a sprinkle of chocolate shavings. He carefully stepped over to the living room and perched on the edge of the sofa, both mugs in hand, balancing the packet of biscuits between his two wrists. Poe spoke your name gently. You turned to face Poe, giving him a small smile.
“Hey. How was your day?” You wondered.
“I think I should be asking that first.” Poe stated, offering you a mug, the biscuits falling onto his lap. You gratefully took the mug, struggling slightly with your grip.
“Thanks.” You whispered, a tender smile sneaking onto your face as you peered down at the cream and chocolate shavings.
“So, how was your day?” Poe questioned
“Can we just sit and drink this first?” You wondered. You took a sip then drew back as a spot of cream coated the tip of your nose. Poe chuckled and wiped away the cream with his thumb then kissed the tip of your nose.
“Sure. Want to see what’s on?” Poe asked as he leaned forward and reached for the TV remote.
“Sounds good.” You smiled, resting your head on Poe’s shoulder. Poe draped his arm around your shoulders, keeping you cuddled against his side as he flicked through the channels looking for something to watch. Meanwhile you munched away on the biscuits Poe had brought, offering him a bite of them every so often while he focused on the TV.
“How’s your grip doing?” Poe pondered as he continued to search the channels. You clenched and unclenched your hand, smiling softly and then wiggled your fingers at Poe.
“Better, I can’t grasp things tightly quite yet, but its getting better. I can wiggle my fingers pretty well.” You grinned.
“That’s great! Hopefully it won’t be too long until you’re fully healed.” Poe beamed.
“It’s been getting better since the cast came off, although I kinda miss all the doodles you’d drawn on it,” You pouted. “So how’s your day been?” You asked curiously
“Pretty good actually. D’Qar has been quiet today so I’ve been able to write a few notes down for a new song.”
“Oooh that’s awesome! Something slow or something lively?”
“Something lively, quite fast with a good beat, I hope it’ll be one of those you kinda hum a lot afterwards… if it turns out the way I’m wanting.” Poe explained.
“Okay, want to tell me what’s happened?” Poe stroked your hair, taking your empty mug from your grasp then placed it on the coffee table.
“It’s just been a bit of a shit day.” You replied.
“Go on.” Poe cupped your cheek, searching your eyes.
“I didn’t get the promotion.”
“Oh baby, I’m sorry. You were really hoping for it.”
“I really thought I had it. Y’know I’ve been doing more than my responsibilities for months and I’m damn good at my job. Armitage gave me a really great reference, but in the end, I just wasn’t good enough.”
“Hey, don’t talk like that! You’re more than good enough! How many times have you stayed well beyond your shift to have things done so the company’s customers are happy! You are absolutely amazing! And for whatever reason, you just didn’t get it this time. Another opportunity will come up I’m sure of it. Next time I’m sure you’ll get it!”
“That’s the thing Poe, I don’t know if there will be a next time.” You sighed.
“What are you saying?”
“I’m saying that I’ve given a decade of my life to that company, I’ve done so much more than what’s been asked of me and I just don’t feel like I’ve been recognised for what I’ve done. Not even a thank you or anything like that.” You let your head fall back, your head rolling to the side slightly to look at Poe.
“So… are you thinking of quitting?” Poe questioned, his brow furrowing in curiosity.
“Maybe,” You squinted, then scowled. “I honestly don’t know. I’d have to think about it.”
“Well, whatever you decide I’m behind you one hundred percent!”
“Thanks babe.” You leaned up and pressed your lips against his softly.
“How about I play? That usually helps you cheer up, and I could always use the practice.” Poe smiled at you.
“I’d like that,” You replied smiling, “But you don’t need to practice, you’re perfect.” You added. Poe laughed softly, pulling you in for a kiss.
“You can never get enough practice.” Poe debated with a grin. You curled up at one end of the sofa, watching as Poe retrieved his guitar from its case and sat down at the other end of the sofa. He plucked at the strings, altering the tuning pegs slightly, then played a quick fast tune. You rested your head on the back cushions of the sofa, your gaze fixed on Poe as he played. He sang loudly, cheerfully and energetically.
Poe called your name as he tugged on his leather jacket.
“You ready to go?” He added as he picked up his guitar case.
“One minute!”
“Babe we’re going to be late!”
“I’m coming!”
Poe leaned against the wall by the apartment door an exasperated sigh leaving his lips, what could you be up to now?
“What she up to Beebee?” Poe glanced down at his tabby. Poe tilted his head as he saw a leg stick out from the bedroom.
“Babe?” Poe questioned as his gaze travelled up and down your leg; black tights and a black kitten heeled shoe. Slowly you stepped out of the bedroom and leaned against the door frame. You placed the back of your hand on your forehead and slid down the door frame.
“How do I look?” You burst out giggling after a moment of astonished silence from Poe.
“I’m sorry I couldn’t help myself. I was being silly.” You laughed as you stepped over to Poe.
“You look… amazing!” Poe exclaimed, his spare hand resting against your hip. He looked you up and down, from your light makeup you wore to the dark red dress, down to your heels. Your hands travelled up to Poe’s shoulders then to the nape of his neck, your fingers playing with the few curls you could reach.
“I’m one lucky girl, to have a guy like you!” You tilted your head as you smiled tenderly.
“I could say the same. I’m one hell of a lucky guy.” Poe leaned down and captured your lips in a chaste kiss.
“We’re going to be late.” You whispered as you drew away. Poe shook his head and laughed. He picked up the keys then wrapped his arm around your shoulders before heading out of the apartment.
“At least the weather is starting to get better.” You commented as you walked down the street, your heels clicking softly on the pavement.
“I won’t be falling on my ass anytime soon again.” Poe added.
You burst out laughing.
“Oh man, remember when I was running errands and you’d just finished work and you tried running to catch up with me and you ended up on your ass!”
“You’re not going to let me forget about that anytime soon, are you?” Poe cocked a brow.
“Not until it stops being funny!”
You and Poe stepped into D’Qar hand in hand, bright smiles on both of your faces. You were taken aback by how busy D’Qar was. You were forced to shuffle around people to get across the packed room, Poe let you pull him through the crowd.
“Tin of sardines doesn’t even begin to describe this!” You called over your shoulder.
“You’re telling me! There must be something going on in the city.” Poe replied as the two of your finally reached the bar.
“Nope, they’re all here for you Poe.” Finn added, stepping over to talk.
“For me?”
“Yeah, word must’ve finally gotten around. I think someone must’ve shared a video on Youtube, I overheard a few people talking about some musician on Youtube so I’m assuming its you.” Finn explained while leaning across the bar.
“Maybe this’ll be the break you’re after. If record labels see how popular you are, someone might approach you!” You enthused, your eyes bright.
“Here’s hoping.” Poe crossed his fingers.
“You guys wanting your usuals?” Finn wondered.
“Please.” You and Poe said in unison.
After Finn had served you both your drinks, Poe left to get ready for his set, but not before he pressed a kiss to your forehead. As you stepped towards your usual table, already seeing Ryan and David there, a voice called your name. You turned and was greeted by Rey.
“Hey! What brings you here?” You wondered.
“I thought I’d come by, I’ve never really seen Poe play before. A colleague of mine came here last week and said he was really great.”
“Are you with anyone?” You asked.
“No, just me.”
“Would you like to join me, and I think you’ve met Ryan and David.” You gestured over to the table.
“I’d love to!” Rey beamed.
“So, how did you become a paramedic?” You questioned as you meandered around the filled tables.
“Growing up, I… I was an orphan, but the children’s home I grew up in wasn’t the best. I saw a lot of children get hurt, so I suppose I became a paramedic because of that. So people don’t feel so alone when they’re hurt, and y’know kind of protect them… I sound silly.” Rey waved in dismissal.
“No, no I find what you’re doing commendable, not many people could deal with the stuff you come across, its amazing actually.” You placed your hand on Rey’s shoulder as you reached the table, offering her a kind smile.
“Hey you two! You coming to join us Rey?” David wondered.
“Yeah. How’s everything going?” Rey questioned as she sat down.
“Things are good, we’ve just booked our wedding venue.”
“You have!” You interrupted. “Where?” You asked as you shrugged off Poe’s jacket he’d given you and sat down.
“There’s a really beautiful boathouse, faces out onto a lake, and its relatively cheap. Plus they serve the best food!” David enthused.
“Sounds romantic.” You grinned. Rey placed her hand on your shoulder.
“And how are you doing?” She inquired.
“I’m good. Ribs don’t hurt anymore, but my grip is still a bit shit.” You explained. Rey offered her hand.
“Squeeze my hand.” Rey told you. You did as she said, squeezing her hand as tight as you could.
“Your grip is much better considering your prognosis, if you keep up your exercises you’ll have your full grip back really soon!” She smiled. You draped your arm over Rey’s shoulders.
“Perks of being friends with a paramedic.” You laughed.
For a while you sat amongst yourselves, chatting happily though loudly to be heard over the chatting of everyone else in D’Qar. Every so often you glanced over your shoulder at the rest of the bar around you, seeing how busy it was. A warmth filled your chest, they were here to see Poe, all of them, and more and more people kept filtering in. Although, you didn’t think Finn was as ecstatic, you’d never seen him so flustered at the bar, running from one end to the other with three glasses between his hands. One time when you looked over towards the bar, Finn caught your gaze, mouthing ‘help me’ with a desperate expression on his face. A sudden tapping on a microphone came through the speaker, catching your attention and making you turn to face the stage. You had to admit, Poe looked a little nervous with D’Qar having a lot more than full house.
“You can do it.” You spoke quietly when Poe locked his gaze on you. He gave a nod, a smile tugging at his lips.
“Good evening everyone!”
Poe didn’t even have chance to finish his sentence before people started to whistle, although he did laugh, his eyes crinkling.
“How’s everyone doing?” He asked, a brow cocked. More than half of the bar gave a response, whether it was a whistle or a loud ‘good’.
“Well, after tonight I’m sure you’re all going to feel great, but maybe in the morning there might be a few hangovers!” Poe enthused. That earned a few laughs.
“I thought since there’s so many of you, that I’d play some of my old stuff and some of my new.”
You smiled at Poe as he began to play, his fingers gently drifting over the strings, creating a soft gentle tune. He added his voice after half a minute, although he sung quietly, his voice just louder than the guitar. You’d only heard this song perhaps once or twice, it wasn’t a song he played often. You tilted your head as he continued to play, smiling softly as you watched Poe’s brow furrow as he poured feeling into the lyrics. The song ended on a whisper. An applause broke out across the crowd. After it calmed down slightly Poe’s fingers started strumming the strings quick and hard, the frets being played high and cheerful, his foot tapping against the leg of the wooden stool. Poe’s head bobbed to the lively music as he started to sing quite fast. You knew this song, it was a relatively new one and had become one of Poe’s favourites, so while Poe performed you mouthed the words along with him, your hand tapping against your thigh in time with the beat. You met Poe’s gaze as he reached the chorus of the song, his eyes fluttered shut as he sung with pure passion. With each song Poe performed, the applause and whistling Poe received became louder.
While you took a sip of your drink, your name being called startled you. You turned to the stage, your brow raised as you looked at Poe.
“Come here babe.”
You shook your head, waving your hand dismissively. Poe stepped down from the stage, his arm outstretched as he offered his hand to you.
“Get your chair and come and join me on stage.”
“Poe… there’s too many people, I’ll fuck up!” You pleaded.
“Babe, I want to show everyone how great we perform together.” Poe looked at you hopefully. With a sigh you took a final sip of your drink before standing and grabbing the back of your chair.
“Fine.”
“I owe you one.”
“I’ll hold you to that.” You pushed his shoulder gently. Poe took the chair from your grasp and placed it on the stage next to his. He sat down then reached out and held your hand, tugging you to sit down beside him. A shuddering breath left your lips, you kept your gaze on the floor but looked at the crowd through your lashes.
“You’re going to be great.” Poe whispered, pressing a kiss to your temple. He held your hand while he took a drink of water.
“Okay,” Poe started, “So me and my very beautiful girl here, we started to write a song together a month or so ago, we finally finished it the other week,” Poe picked up his guitar. “You ready babe?”
“As I’ll ever be.” You gave him a smile. The two of you had spent weeks crafting the song, Poe wanted to create something personal, something that told the story of the both of you, from the good parts and the bad. The song reflected that, the music alternated between light, cheerful, quick and slow, soft, quiet. Poe and you alternated when you sung verses, singing of love and hurt and reunion. Each chorus that came around, one of you started it and the other joined in halfway, creating a beautiful harmony as you both finished it. When the song ended, you let out a relieved breath. Poe took your hand, squeezing it comfortingly. The crowd broke into applause, David, Ryan and Rey all whistling and cheering.
“Take a bow babe.” Poe whispered in your ear.
“No, they’re all cheering for you.” You whispered back.
“Hey, everyone, how about a round of applause for my girl, if it wasn’t for her, that song wouldn’t exist.” Poe spoke into the microphone.
“Poe!” You gasped, a deep blush of embarrassment breaking out across your cheeks. As another round of applause sounded, Poe leaned in to whisper in your ear.
“Have I ever told you how cute you are when you blush like that?”
You slapped his shoulder playfully.
“Can I go back now?”
“Sure baby,” Poe leaned in and captured your lips in a loving kiss. “Love you.”
“Love you too.” You replied with a smile. Just before you left the stage, you gave Poe a long, loving kiss, laughing when the crowd began to wolf whistle.
It was the longest set Poe had ever performed, he ended up needing a second glass of water half-way through. It made your heart sing to see him so joyful when the crowd applauded and whistled and cheered. You’d never seen his eyes crinkle so much as he smiled and laughed, well they did when the two of you were alone, but when he performed at D’Qar, it didn’t happen as often as you’d liked. After his last song, the crowd cheered loudly, whistled wildly and applauded like nothing else mattered. Poe was beaming after he stepped off the stage, disappearing around back to place his guitar in storage.
“What did you think?” You turned to Rey.
“Well I’m gobsmacked, I knew he was good, but that good! I had no idea!” She exclaimed.
“He’s really something isn’t he?” Ryan sighed happily. David gave him a swift slap to the back of his head.
“Dude, I’m sat right here!” David laughed.
“Ryan, you’re ‘A’ getting married and ‘B’ he’s all mine!” You teased.
“You’re so lucky!” Ryan exclaimed.
“Don’t I know it.” You beamed. A while passed and Poe hadn’t joined you at the table, you were growing concerned, he was usually straight out to come and share a drink with you. You turned to look towards the bar and was surprised to see Poe stood with a woman. The conversation seemed one sided, with the woman speaking animatedly. You tilted your head in curiosity, and honestly, a little bit of jealousy ran through you as she rested her hand on Poe’s arm.
“I’ll be right back…” You said to your friends while you stood from the table, empty glass in hand. You kept your gaze on Poe as you meandered through the crowd. Poe nodded slowly as the woman handed him something. He looked confused and baffled after she walked away.
“What was all that about?” You asked as you approached Poe. Poe couldn’t find the words and simply showed you the small card he’d been given. You took it from his grasp, your eyes scanning over it. Your jaw went slack, your eyes brimming with joy as you looked up at Poe.
“Is this what I think it means?”
“She said she’s interested in what I do… I… she wants me to come in tomorrow.” Poe’s brow was furrowed as if his mind couldn’t process what was happening. With a squeal you throw your arms around Poe’s shoulders, hugging him tightly, your fingers running through his curls. Poe held onto you tightly, nuzzling his head into the crook of your neck.
“Okay, what’s going on?” Finn wondered as he stepped over. You handed Finn the card.
“Poe… is this serious?” Finn asked.
“Yeah.”
Finn almost jumped over the bar counter to try and pull Poe in for a hug. Poe laughed and wrapped his arms around Finn.
“This is the best news you’ve had in years!” Finn exclaimed.
“I’m still…” Poe drifted off.
“Okay, round of drinks on the house for the lot of you!” Finn held Poe and your hand as he spoke. After Finn disappeared off to go make drinks, you gathered Poe in your arms, smiling brightly at him, joyful tears brimming in your eyes.
“I’m so proud of you babe! So damn proud!” You captured his lips in a heated kiss, your head tilting to deepen it after a moment.
“Do I have to squirt the two of you with water or something?” Finn cocked a brow as he returned with drinks to see the two of you in the middle of a passionate kiss. You drew away from Poe with a giggle.
“Sorry Finn.”
“Here you go. And Poe, you call me when you find out more okay?”
“I will. Thanks Finn.” Poe high-fived his friend then returned with you to the table, tray of drinks in hand.
“Guess who’s just had the best news in the galaxy!” You almost squeal as you sit at the table, Poe pulling up an extra chair to sit beside you.
“You’re getting married? You aren’t stealing our thunder!” Ryan teased.
“Ryan! No, tell ‘em Poe!” You were almost bouncing in your seat with how excited you were. Even now, Poe still wasn’t sure what had happened.
“A woman… Amilyn I think her name is… she… she works for a record label. She wants me to go in tomorrow for a meeting. She said she’s interested in me.” Poe explained slowly, his brow furrowing as his mind worked over what had just happened.
“This calls for drinks!” David cheered. Each of you grabbed a drink from the tray and raised it in the air.
“To Poe!” You beamed.
“To Poe!” Was the cheerful reply from around the table. A few laughs leaving people’s lips as the glasses met together in the air.
You were curled up on the sofa, the curtains were drawn closed and the apartment lights were dimmed.
“Beebee, tell me never to drink so much again,” You groaned. Beebee simply meowed at you, then purred as he nuzzled against you. “Yeah I love you too buddy.”
You glanced at the clock on the wall, squinting to see what time it was.
“He should be back by now,” You stroked Beebee then looked at the tabby. “You think the meeting went well?”
You let out a yawn as you let yourself fall to the side to lay down on the sofa. Beebee jumped over your legs to curl up against your chest.
“Yup, never drinking so much again.” You grumbled. When an abrupt stream of light hit your eyes, eliciting a cry from your lips and causing you to drape an arm over your eyes, you cried out Poe’s name in a whine.
“Shouldn’t have drank so much then should you?” Poe teased.
“I was drinking for the both of us because someone didn’t want to go to his meeting hungover!” You argued. Suddenly you heard the tab on a bottle of beer hiss.
“Looks like I’m going to be drinking for the both of us now aren’t I?” Poe chuckled. With a pained groan you pushed yourself up from the sofa and padded over to the kitchen, wrapping your arms around Poe and resting your head against his back.
“How did the meeting go?” You asked curiously.
“Well… Amilyn needs to sort some paperwork out… but I start there next week.” Poe grinned.
“Really? They really want you!” You exclaimed joyfully.
“Yeah, it’s a done deal,” Poe turned in your hold and wrapped his arms around you, cradling your head to his chest. “I couldn’t have done it without you babe.”
“Bullshit.” You chuckled, then winced at the pain lancing through your head.
“Honestly, if it wasn’t for you supporting me this past half a year, I wouldn’t be where I am now. I love you.” Poe whispered tenderly.
“What did your Dad say when you called?” You wondered as Poe took your hand and padded over to the sofa, then tugged your hand to get you to sit with him.
“He was ecstatic. Told me that Mom would be real proud.” He smiled softly.
“I can tell you, she’s looking down on you, completely proud and amazed at what you’ve achieved. I know because I love you with all my heart and that’s how I feel.”
“This,” Poe captured your lips in a tender kiss. “Is why I love you so damn much.”
“C’mon babe, lets chill for a little and once this hangover passes we’re going to celebrate.” You cuddled against Poe’s side. As the day came to a close, you and Poe stayed cuddled up on the sofa watching your favourite films and eating takeout. Though when night came, you both decided it was time to paint the town red in celebration.

Admittedly when I started writing this I thought I’d have to edit it quite heavily because I wasn’t sure whether I liked it or not. Turns out I only had to add a couple of things and I’m pretty happy with how it turned out.
