Yamaha Revstar Review: 10 Reasons to Think Again
The Yamaha Revstar is, on paper, my ideal next guitar. But does it deliver on Yamaha’s promises? I’ve touched on the Yamaha Revstar and, in particular, the humbucker-equipped Yamaha Revstar RSS20 before. But now I’ve laid my hands on one,F do I still want to buy one? Not any more, and here are 10 reasons why. 1 – Electronics Small, non-CTS pots and a less-than-premium switch betray Yamaha’s…

Just added this used Squier 51 to the site, moregainmusic.com. It’s a flexible little oddball guitar that has gained a cult following, enough that it’s used sale price is at or above its original sale price. They didn’t make them for long, and you might consider it a predecessor to the popular Parallel Universe series. Priced within range of a beginner, but at the playing quality of an experienced player.

March 1964 - Farrokh Bulsara with his family fled the Zanzibar Revolution, moving to Middlesex, England
🔸Freddie’s parents, Jer and Bomi Bulsara, chose Feltham as Jer already had a sister living in the area and the family moved into number 22 Gladstone Avenue in autumn 1964. Seventeen year old Freddie took an A-level in art at Isleworth Polytechnic followed by a Diploma in Graphic Art and Design at Ealing College of Art, supporting himself with a variety of jobs, including washing dishes in the kitchens at nearby Heathrow Airport. It was while studying at Ealing that Freddie met future Queen guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor.
Kashmira recalls how while living on Gladstone Avenue, her brother was always sketching for his college art work – sometimes calling on her to model for him – or tapping his fingers and humming as if thinking of his next song. A natural musician, Gladstone Avenue was where Freddie really began to explore his musical talent, listening to the likes of Cream and his hero, Jimi Hendrix in his bedroom at the back of the house; there is a 1968 photograph of Freddie in his bedroom posing in the manner of Hendrix with a borrowed Fender Stratocaster. Kashmira also remembers how he loved watching Tom & Jerry cartoons and collecting cuttings of Andy Capp comic strips from the daily newspaper and how he spent hours grooming his hair – much to her annoyance as the house had only one bathroom.
Dr Brian May said: It was here that I first visited Freddie soon after we had met through a mutual friend. We spent most of the day appreciating and analysing in intimate detail the way that Jimi Hendrix had put his recordings together in the studio - listening to Hendrix on vinyl played on Freddie's Dansette record player - which had stereo speakers on opposite sides of the box! Feltham was the childhood neighbourhood for both of us but we never knew it until we met in the cause of music.”

.・。.・THE INSTRUMENTS OF NEON NIGHTS
inspired by Kasey @plasticflwrs
Tumblr media Tumblr media
( I ) Eunbyul is most often spotted with the PRS SE CUSTOM 24. It’s used in the majority of the band’s performances, and has traveled with her to every country Neon Nights has traveled to.
( II ) For studio recordings, she prefers to use the GIBSON LES PAUL STUDIO. It’s one of her more prized possessions, and for that reason, it hardly leaves her bedroom and its case outside of recording sessions.
( III ) She’s the most emotionally attached to the acoustic YAMAHA FS800, which was the first guitar she learned how to play.
( IV ) Her latest addition is the SCHECTER HELLRAISER, purchased as their music began to take a louder and more aggressive sound. It also looks cooler in their music videos.
( V ) Though it has yet to make an appearance in any of their music, Eunbyul is also a proficient CELLIST. Prior to joining the band, she considered a pursuing a career as a professional symphony musician.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
( I ) Hwajung’s current drum kit is the PEARL MASTERS MAPLE in rose gold.
( II ) Her backup kit is her old PEARL EXPORT set. It lives in pieces between the Neon Nights practice room and their apartment.
( III ) Her favorite cymbals are the ZILDJIAN A line. She’d literally die if she had to use the ones that came with the drum set.
( IV ) Hwajung’s drum sticks of choice are the VIC FIRTH AMERICAN CLASSIC 5A. She always carries an extra pair or two, because one of her biggest fears is trying to twirl a stick on stage, dropping it, and losing it forever.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
( I ) Yumi’s main bass guitar is the YAMAHA TRBX504 that she's been using since their debut.
( II ) She tried to upgrade to the YAMAHA BB734A a couple of years ago, but quickly changed her mind. She now uses it only for studio recordings.
( III ) For special occasions—showing off—she plays the YAMAHA TRBX505, the five-string version of her usual bass.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
( I ) Eden owns one keyboard: the YAMAHA CP88. She spends more time singing than playing the piano, so she doesn’t see the point in getting another one.
( II ) As a child, she learned how to play the piano on her family's STEINWAY AND SONS K52.
( III ) She's also the band’s resident VIOLINIST, having played the instrument from her days as a student in youth symphony.
( IV ) Her electric violin is the YAMAHA SV-200, though she uses it much less than the acoustic one.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
( I ) Qiuyun’s first guitar was the FENDER PLAYER STRATOCASTER, recommended to her by Eunbyul, despite Eunbyul not favoring Fenders.
( II ) As she grew more proficient with her instrument, she upgraded to the FENDER AMERICAN PROFESSIONAL II STRATOCASTER, which is now her most-used guitar.
( III ) From time to time, she can also be seen with the IBANEZ PRESTIGE AZ2204NW.

WHO IS RED?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
HER HANDS. She has these gloves on her pinky and ring finger particularly. It makes her easy to find on stage because of her hands. (minus the accessories) Her nails are painted black and with her exposed hand.
WHO? Red, also known as One or Melione, is a female member of the Nameless Ghouls and is affiliated with the band Ghost. Standing at an estimated height of around 5'6". She primarily plays the electric guitar, occasionally switching to bass and back up vocalist of the band.
Red is often referred to as One by fans, as Melione is her nickname that has gained popularity as it was the first name given by fans to her as well. Melione is called One before to shorten it and confuse new fans as to why they didn't just call her Mel or Meli. She can be called by both names but new fans calls her Red.
(July 27, 2013 - September 16, 2016) - Bass *replaced by Mist (soon replaced by Dewdrop)
(September 16, 2016 - Present) - Lead Guitarist and Backup Vocals *Sodo and Red replaced Ifrit *Rain replaced Dewdrop
WHERE DO YOU FIND HER? Red often takes a prominent position on stage, either at the center or between the drums and keyboards, alongside Rain. Her stage presence is captivating, drawing fans' attention with her energetic guitar playing and backup vocals.
HER MASK. Which she wears during performances, features two horns. The left horn is black, while the right horn gradually transitions from black to red. The mask leaves her lips exposed, allowing her to contribute to vocals when needed. Fans have noticed her tongue piercing, as she often sticks her tongue out during performances.
HER GUITARS.
FENDER STRATOCASTER ELECTRIC GUITAR.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Red is known for playing two main guitars during performances. The first is a Fender Stratocaster electric guitar, which is a versatile and popular choice among guitarists. The Stratocaster is known for its distinct sound and comfortable playability. Her electric guitar is black.
GIBSON THUNDERBIRD BASS GUITAR.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The second guitar Red is seen playing is a Gibson Thunderbird bass guitar. The Thunderbird is a classic bass guitar known for its deep, rich tones and unique body shape. It is a favorite among many rock and metal bass players. Her bass guitar is black and white (like in the picture), her guitar made it easy to spot her while on stage.

i realize i have not posted here much, so here's one to try and compensate for that! these characters are all from ANOMIE, a personal project of mine i've been working on for the past half year or so.
third image is heavily based off a photograph by gie knaeps (for getty images) of brian molko
image description(s) under cut
image 1: digital illustration of a group photo of anomie, a fictional band, consiting of marco, rice, eulalie, and Q. they are all wearing colors of their respective pride flags. marco, a half human half frog man, has eyeshadow in the colors of the aromantic and bi flag, with a boa with the colors of the trans flag. he wears interlocked male symbol necklace and double crescent earring. rice, a werewolf, has streaks of trans flag colors in hir hair and a non-binary bracelet, with generally subtle allusions to their identity. eulalie, a mantis, is in full rivethead fashion, with an aegosexual flag stiched into her top, parts of her beanie, and a lesbian flag coat tied around her waist. she also has an asexual symbol on a choker and a belt with interlocked female symbols. Q is a rusted one eyed robot with a curled antennae on their head with a light bulb at the end, like that of a female angler fish. it wears a shirt with the aroace flag colors on one side, ties around the cords on their arm in the colors of the gay flag, and a skirt with colors of the non-binary flag. they all strike poses and smile. [end id]
image 2: digital illustration of Q from anomie. they stand on a pier at the beach, wearing a sun hat with flowers, a bathing suit with a pattern of lemons, and a multicolored shoulder bag. on one hand, they wear a falcon glove, with a barn owl perched upon their gloved hand. [end id]
image 3: digital illustration of marco from anomie. he is younger than he appears in the first image, with a differently shaved beard and hair partially dyed blue and in braids that gradiate to red. a microphone obscures a small part of his face as he smiles, looking out at presumably a crowd. he hugs his guitar, a fender player stratocaster. [end id]
image 4: digital illustration of marco and rice from anomie. they both look significantly younger than the first image: marco has long, teal hair that fades downwards into red, and no beard or tail. rice has shorter , silver ombre hair, and fur around their muzzle that looks like a beard. their backs are turned to the viewer, faces visible as they face eachother, standing in front of a huge, theatrical curtain. marco looks at rice with a surprised and curious expression, raising his eyebrows far above his glasses. rice glares angrily at him, putting their ears back and frowning. marco grips his pants with his frog hands, seemingly about to take them off, with his boxers low enough to see his lower back. a slightly smeared lipstick kiss is partially visible above his boxers. [end id]
image 5: digital illustration of marco and eulalie from ANOMIE. marco is talking, raising a frog hand and tilting his head to look at eulalie. he wears a jacket and pink t-shirt, and eulalie wears a black bandana and her usual rivethead fashion. behind them is a very blurry city. [end id]

Fender Stratocaster: One mod to rule them all!
After two years of tinkering with my Fender Player Stratocaster, what’s the one mod that’s had the most impact? In the video below, I’ll take you through all the mods I’ve made and whether or not they were worth it. But there’s one in particular that is the real game-changer. I know this is a real basic and vague question but ok computer guitar sounds are amazing to me. Is there a guide for amp settings and specific pedal settings for each player? Something that would be pivotal for each?
We've answered this individually for each player plenty of times, in particular on the artist pages where you can find the gear used for each album and each tour. But to sum up the core of their clean and distorted sounds on that album:
Thom Yorke:
1970s Telecaster Deluxe or 1960s Jazzmaster -> Proco Turbo Rat or Marshall Shredmaster -> ’65 Reissue Twin Reverb
Jonny Greenwood:
1990s Telecaster Plus or 1970s Fender Starcaster Low gain: Guitar -> Boss SD-1 -> Roland RE-201 -> Vox AC30TBx High gain: Guitar -> Marshall Shredmaster -> Fender Eighty-Five
Ed O'Brien:
1990s Eric Clapton Signature Stratocaster or Rickenbacker 360 -> Marshall Guvnor or Lovetone Big Cheese -> Mesa Boogie Trem-O-Verb or Vox AC30
Ed and Jonny each used a bunch of other effects for modulation, pitch shifting, delay, etc. If you're curious about that, search their artist pages for specific songs or check the tags for those songs.
In addition, Nigel Godrich added compression, plate reverb, and other effects. However, Nigel stated that the core of their guitar sound on OK Computer was just a band playing in the room, and he used a simple microphone setup:
"I’m not particularly anal about miking up guitars and stuff, as far as I’m concerned you stick an SM-57 in front of the amp and it is what it is. If the sound is good out of the amp then it’ll sound good. And more importantly, you just want to get everything set up so everybody can play!" (The Mix. August 1997).
