Santa brought me a single coil-sized humbucker for my ‘90s Strat. It’s the first time I ever soldered anything, so when I restrung it and took it for a whirl, I was nervous. But, goddamn, it sounds awesome.
When I was in college and ran into a bit of cash, I went to buy my first non-pawn shop guitar. The sales guy asked me what sound I was looking for. I said, “Shag carpet.” Adding this humbucker to my old Strat means I once again can get that shag carpet sound. Loud, deep, and fuzzy as fuck.
Jericho," a custom Fender Statocaster belonging to Joe Walsh
Heavily customized fender stratocaster modified by Walsh with parts from the 1950s and 1960s, body probably ash, one-piece maple neck, strings through the body, with rear plate removed for easy access for changing strings, 3 single coil pick-ups, 5-way switch with single volume and two tone controls. The guitar body is elaborately custom painted with a sort of pre-historic jungle motif lorded over by a pterodactyl complete with glass eye. With 1950s tweed case painted over black, case top stenciled "Jericho" in white, and bearing label indicating "JW-014 / Fender Strat / serial no 13099 / Band / Barnstorm." The serial number on the case indicates at one point the guitar was a 1957.
