I've included every Job I've heard people mention as speculation, no matter how unlikely I personally find it. Propaganda after the cut is all just my own feelings, and includes some very minor spoilers for recent MSQ events, Astrologian Job Quests, and the Shadowbringers patch 5.3 Dungeon:
CALCULATOR PROS: They have had some fun with Math Bosses, haven't they. It is a theme present in the game, and with precedent in earlier FF games. CONS: I can not imagine any configuration of this job that would function within the timing of FFXIV's combat. Applying simple Astrologian buffs is already tricky enough. Also, this was a real balance-demolisher in its main prior appearance.
GAMBLER PROS: FFVI has proven fertile ground for Job design concepts, between the Monk and Machinist revamps. And Setzer's armor is already in the game. CONS: Even more RNG dependent than Dancer? I don't much like the sound of that. And Astrologian has already claimed Cards as a primary tool.
GEOMANCER PROS: It canonically exists in setting. And it is on the dwindling list of Jobs in FFXI that haven't been reinterpreted in FFXIV. Probably a pretty strong contender, except... CONS: The Astrologian quests kind of ate its lunch, explicitly stating that they are heavily overlapping arts. That will be a common theme with entries on this list, Astrologian seems to be made of pieces of a ton of prior Mage jobs.
GREEN MAGE PROS: The presumptive favorite in most of the chatter I'm reading, because of a symbol on a thing in a very "we're teasing new content" feeling MSQ cutscene that matches the design of Green Mage in one of the Tactics games (I think?) CONS: Ok great but what the heck even is a Green Mage? Their whole shtick appears to be long-duration buffs and debuffs that would have been categorized as Black or White Magic in other games... and FFXIV has been very steadily removing those kinds of powers, aside from a handful of DoTs. If they crib this aesthetic, the actual mechanics will likely be something entirely unanticipated, or possibly overlapping with one of these other options, rather than a Buff/Debuff Mage. Or maybe they've just been removing long duration powers from other classes to... consolidate them? I really doubt it, but maybe.
NECROMANCER PROS: It's a solid concept, an RPG classic, and the Necromancer Boss in the Heroes' Gauntlet dungeon looks sick. Rumor has it that all the bosses in that dungeon were concepts once considered as alternate branches of base classes in the same way Arcanist splits into Scholar and Summoner, before they ditched that design. In which case it probably would have split from Thaumaturge? CONS: Rumor also has it that cultural considerations in certain key markets made this something SE didn't want to pose as a heroic archetype. Also, pet jobs. They've been pretty steadily gutting the pet mechanics of Scholar and Summoner, and I can't imagine they'd be in any hurry to add another full scale Pet Job. Maybe a Limited Job though. Also, in FFXIV the art to animate and control the dead seems to be closely related to the summoning of Voidsent, and Reaper is already doing the Demon Magic thing in a big way.
ORACLE PROS: I'm gonna be real with y'all, can't actually think of any. I see this as having zero chance. But the name keeps coming up in conversation. So maybe I'm wrong, and the apparent fan support will keep the idea afloat. CONS: Like Green Mage, it's mainly been a place to dump debuffs that originally belonged to other magic types. And the theme of prediction and prophecy has been thoroughly raided by Astrologian.
PICTOMANCER (A.K.A. Artist, Painter, Ink Mage, etc.) PROS: As I mentioned under Gambler, raiding FFVI has been a solid move, and Relm Arrowny's power set deserves a less-buggy reinterpretation. Also Ink Mages are the only common enemy in the Heroes' Gauntlet that doesn't match a job we have available. Also Yoshi P's TMNT shirt at the first fanfest may have been hinting at Leonardo's dual swords and a Ninja's scouting armor sets for Viper, but it could also have been a reference to the Renaissance Masters that the Turtles were named after. He's clever like that. CONS: The only reason this isn't my #1 guess without hesitation is that pesky Green Mage emblem. I have a theory though that Green Mage and Pictomancer might get combined and have the "green" be about painting landscapes, in which case it might also be borrowing from Geomancer turf a little. Who knows!
PUPPETMASTER PROS: Also on the short list of FFXI jobs that haven't been reinterpreted. Mammets are a big part of this setting and there would be a lot of cool aesthetics to potentially draw on. CONS: Pet jobs. I just can't see them ever doing another full Pet Job. Also the FFXI version was a blend of technology and martial arts, not a caster per se.
TIME MAGE PROS: One of the missing FF classics, with a lot more potential spells than you expect, since it also usually deals with Space Magic. CONS: Haste powers and traits became a huge balance headache in FFXI and I can't see them rushing back into that. Also, once again, Astrologian already swiped several key ideas.

FFXIV JP Fanfest 2024/7.0 Spoilers ahead!
So from the images we’ve seen of it, I’ve been feeling increasingly confident that this new future city people are the people, or at least one of the peoples, who fell to the 2nd Umbral Calamity.
Looking at the city/cities themselves, they clearly don’t match architecturally to the civilizations that we’ve seen so far in game, looking more high-fantasy sci-fi than much of the Ancient’s vaguely deco diesel-punk stylings and very distinct to the red with blues and greens of Allag. Their cities have this kind of purple glow over chrome metal with this sleek, cyberpunk esque styling to everything than what you might see with Allag’s turning rings and jagged edges, which feels too distinct to be the same nation to me, at least from the same era. It definitely feels out of left field aesthetic wise for the game, even when compared to some of the technology we’ve seen from other sci-fi heavy civilizations.
Now, this could just mean new civilization from basically anywhere. However, Yoshi-P mentioned that these places are lightning attuned, which explains the purple, but also possibly links it to the 2nd Calamity, the one of lightning. Now, we know next to nothing of this era, but one thing we do know, or at least think we know of this time, is that the people escaped a long-lasting hail of lightning strikes that ended their civilizations via building underground shelters to wait out the storm. Looking again at the two areas connected to this new civilization, they both seem to have these big shieldings covering the tops of these cities, with both the new raid, the Arcadion, and more prominently with the city shown in the distance of the Heritage Found artwork clearly having a shield at the top covering the city. We don’t get a super clear view of the sky with Solution 9, largely because of how all-encompassing the skyscrapers and block towers are here, but the fact that the lighting here is seemingly mostly from spotlights, billboards, etc., I do feel confident that something at least is blocking natural light here. (On a side note, Heritage Found’s city is definitively underground.)
All this to say is that I think we’re going to be meeting something relating to the 2nd Calamity here, whether that be the remnants of the people, a lasting civilization, or just the lingering stuff like robots or something in Dawntrail. If they are the people from this time, I do have some wild ideas as to their deal in the story. Maybe they’re bunkering up to avoid going to the surface for some reason? Maybe they’re the ones that carved the big divide between the North and South of Tural that Tuliyollal connects? Maybe they’re Garlean ancestors since they possibly have a third eye judging by that picture in the billboard of Solution 9 and we’ll learn why Garleans can’t use magicks possibly (assuming it isn’t just an unrelated forehead gem the lady in that billboard has)? I don’t really know. I guess we’ll have to find out these new people’s deal in Dawntrail.

There is one particular FFXIV player hair that is even crunchier than Xenos' (I won't point it out bc I don't want anyone to feel bad or the like) and I can't WAIT to see that in the graphical update. All the hairs looked so much more realistic in every preview they showed at Fanfest!
And since I'm on the topic - this particular before and after was practically a jumpscare to me, because the 'after' image was so much better!
Tumblr media
The hair isn't a single, molded piece of plastic, the shadows fall more naturally, the browbone has a more natural shape, the skin is so clear and moisturized and real-seeming, and the lips don't look like a sticker stuck to her face! And the eyes! They don't look dead and flat! The eyes pop so intensely that I was shook when she came on screen!
And two more honorable mentions (though all were excellent) these were the ones that REALLY stood out to me -
Tumblr media
Everything I pointed out up there still applies, but look at the highlanders' tattoos and scars! Those also no longer look like bad temporary tattoos/stickers stuck to his face with no actual depth - look how REAL his stitches seem, now! The tattoo looks less like carnival paint, and more like actual ink-on-skin! His facial hair, too, is just superb!
Tumblr media
And this gal similarly shook me, like the Elezen did - for similar reasons! The eyes - THE EYES - they're just so much more alive, and vibrant, and less dead looking, she has a realistic lip shape, her face shape as a whole is more real; and look at her scales! Look at the definition on them! They ALSO look less like a sticker stuck to her skin, and the color is overall just better (more white, and less yellow). Plus I keep staring at the more defined noses on every face, and how the shape of the nose, alone, really changes a face. And if you really look, the hair accessories on both of these last two are also much, much better. And that's not even touching on how much better the gear they're wearing looks!
I think I'm more hyped for the graphical update than for Hrothgals, honestly - I'm attached to what I know and love, and can't wait to see not just my OCs, but everyone else's in high def later this year!

now that its been nearly a full day since the last fanfest, i'm just gonna put my thoughts on Dawntrail as a whole out.
Jobs
Viper is cool. I like the idea of another scouting class. I'm a ranged phys main so sharing jewelry with another job is a plus.
The aesthetic of Viper is really really cool. I love the swashbuckler look that the AF gear has. I cannot wait to put Marisol in something similar. The twin blades into a double blade is also very appealing. I used to play Sith Assassin and Jedi Sentinel in SWTOR and its like a marriage of the two.
So in conclusion, Viper is just cool and its gonna be a lot of fun to play. Just like how Reaper is pretty fun to play still.
BUT Pictomancer is just more exciting to me. I LOVE RELM so much. Its been forever since I played VI so I might go do that sometime.
AND THE SPELLS ARE SO CUTE. They look so fake and painterly that I just can't help but fall in love with them. The AF gear is also so cute and I cannot wait to put it on Lily.
Archie is also going to main this class (I had decided that before the reveal, when it was still in the air between green mage and pictomancer.) Its so cheesy and cute and goofy and feels like it would fit my Doctor Who-like character a lot better than the raw powerful Black Mage.
Pictomancer is just gonna be good healthy goofy fun and its the job I'm more looking forward to!
Fem Hrothgar
I'm so so so so happy that they went big and buff over cutesifying Hrothgar. Cause we know they could've and it would've not looked good at all. I'm still not the biggest fan of the dimorphism of Au Ra. (even tho I main one. ^.^;)
My biggest complaint with Fem Hrothgar is that their starter gear looks so much better than all the others. Like the wrist guards! They look sooooo good. (I also really dislike Au Ra starter gear, that doesn't help.) But you can see the new graphic update with them and just their general design feels better than the OG 5. I felt this way a little about male Viera, but I was not super likely to make a male Viera so it didn't matter to me that much.
I don't know if i'm gonna make a Fem Hrothgar... They aren't my style per say, but I'm not gonna keep that door closed. I'm not the biggest fan of more animalistic faces, but that's a personal problem.
All in all, they look fucking fantastic and I'm glad they went the route they did.
Graphic Update
It looks great and its gonna be good when we get it. I'm very glad they actually showed us dark skintones this time too. They all got such a glow up! Can't wait for the gear to follow.
Now give us more character creator options for everyone, and hats for Viera and Hrothgar!!
Tural
The areas look really pleasant, I do like the whole brand new adventure feel. Its a lot better than the feel of the start of the void quests, that kinda had the same feel but got a little dreary once in the void proper. I dunno. Even as a fan of IV the Void Arc was kinda, meh. I like Zero and Golbez as characters, but the rest was kinda whatever. The world lore was also good but eh.
The new zone designs are just breathtaking. I'm the biggest fan of the Western town and South American highland zones. They are just so different from what we have currently it will be great. Solution 9 and the cave zone (that appears to be under it) are.... really fucking cool. Its so far away from what we were expecting I just can't help but be estatic. (And I can take pics of the Linnaeas twins' home shard there. Since I headcannon it as a cyberpunky shard.)
The dungeons all look pretty neat, I like the thunder crystal mountainside the most so far.
Its gonna be a fun story I think, a nice palette cleanser from the heaviness of Endwalker.
The Arcadian
I have no idea what to expect from a raid that is taking place inside a graphics card. By name alone and the fact its in the cyberpunk area does give me good hope. :D
Vanadiel
As I haven't played XI I'm indifferent. It'll be a fun raid and I'm likely going to enjoy the fights, but its just another FF in XIV. Pretty standard tbh. It'll be fun and I'll enjoy the story but there is no anticipation for me.
Ultimate Eden
Its gonna be bonkers and I'm gonna enjoy watching the full fight once its figured out. (I'm not a savage raider lol)
Other Content
The field zone has potential. Since we know nothing else, that's all I've got. I did miss having a field zone in Endwalker tho. It was the perfect place to while away hours working on relics. (let's hope the next relic grind is as tedious as just gather tomes.)
Cosmic Exploration is going to look flashy and great, but I don't do a lot of crafting/gathering so I dunno how much I will enjoy it past its story. Its gonna just be relegated to going there once in a while like Island Sanctuary for me likely.
Deep dungeons are only fun the first time solo and ok with friends later. I've completed both PotD and HoH but my friends still haven't finished EO so....
Hildebrand is Hildebrand. Perfection in humor form.
I will likely enjoy the Variant dungeons, I've enjoyed the first 2 (haven't done the newest cause I was taking a break from the game) and I like the lore that comes with them.
I can't think of anything else really rn but those are my immediate thoughts! Its going to be fun and refreshing and I cannot wait till summer to play it. (tho we must)
