In a nail biting match between the docile reformed war criminal and the lesbian space wizard, round 7 has ended with Valerie Frizzle coming up just 2.4 percentage points shy of victory. Iroh now moves to round 8, facing the older taller of the Elric brothers in what is likely to be yet another match to remember.

It pisses me off so bad the sheer lack of disability rep in people's fma modern aus so I made this because I think I'm actually going to commit acts of violence if I see one more au where Al is able bodied or Ed has both arms.

I did a bit of research on prosthetics for this because I'm not an amputee so I don't have any personal experience with prosthetics. Ed's leg is fairly standard as far as electric above the knee prosthetics go but he has a leg cover so it resembles his automail from the show. (he probably has other options too so he can change them out as he pleases) Ed also doesn't have an arm prosthetic. From what I can tell there's not many options as far as prosthetics go for people who've lost their arm at the shoulder and I'm gonna be honest I don't think Ed would really want a prosthetic arm until modern prosthetic technology is more similar to what is available in the FMA universe.

I haven't exactly decided what Al has but whatever I do decide will have to be genetic because he inherited it from his mother. I'll definitely have to do some research on what might have symptoms that are kinda the real life equivalent of Al's situation in the show. I also forgot to mention he has insomnia. I wasn't sure how to adapt the Al is a sweet little kid stuck in a suit of armor that scares people thing but you win some you loose some.

every time i see a incorrect edward elric take i use all my summa cum laude english graduate skills to write a masterful essay in my head within the first few seconds of seeing it. here is why you are wrong in a thesis statement so eloquent and poignant it would make shakespeare's stupid ass roll in his grave of theft. but bad alphonse elric takes? i have a single phrase for you before the bloodlust fills my body and steals my ability to think: "you will die and burn in hell".

“I’m gona draw the circle from FMA! It’ll be easy! I can get it done in half an hour and go to bed!” Ha! This bitch took me TWO HOURS. If you’re an artist, and a fan of FMA, if you don’t like masochism, don’t draw this circle. I’m glad I did it, it turned out great, but FUCK. I tried to use the tools in procreate to get it mathematically correct, but it just would not connect, so I wound up doing it by eye. If you do plan to draw it, don’t get to analytical about it, or you will spend two hours on it… like me! Either way, it’s done, it’s here now, enjoy!

i see a lot of people talk about edward being disabled in fma, but it's less often talked about how alphonse is also disabled. i think it's partially because alphonse doesn't experience physical pain like edward so for a majority of the series, he's not having any of those kind of symptoms, but he is still disabled. also because alphonse's experiences are unique. like you don't see ant walking, talking suits of armour in real life (unless they're piloted by a human being physically inside them) and in world, there are about 3 others like alphonse).

alphonse is dependent on edward's survival to function. after fighting scar for the first time, alphonse is literally in pieces. he can't walk or anything until edward is in a position to fix him. similarly his body is dependent on nutrients from edward's body. like there's the point towards the end where edward gets impaled and alphonse collapses. furthermore, these periods where alphonse collapses start to become debilitating towards the end of the series and massively alter his daily living.

also, alphonse constantly talks about how upsetting it is for him to not feel any physical sensations. yeah, he's not feeling physical pain, but he's also not feeling the warmth of a fire, the sun on his face, or the fluffiness of the cats he keeps petting. he talks a lot about not being able to eat or sleep, and how there's a lot of foods he wants to try.

there's another thing that highlighted by edward at one point. alphonse's body doesn't regenerate at all. the parts scar destroys are gone forever; edward stretches out the metal that alphonse has left to repair his body. and obviously human beings don't regrow limbs, but imagine if your skin didn't ever heal over a cut. how long would your body last?

also alphonse gets told several times that his body is great throughout the series, and he literally argues against it every time, because to him it is shit. like he is missing some of his senses just for some supposedly immortal body that isn't even immortal.

even once alphonse gets his own body back, the amount of physical therapy the boy has to go through. his body has essentially been doing nothing and only receiving what nutrients it can get from edward for years. by the end of the series, he's still using a cane as a walking aid. it's unknown whether he requires that cane for the years to come, but for at least a period of time he requires a mobility aid. I don't know enough to say what effect muscle decay from inactivity and severe malnourishment during a major portion of his teenage years would have long term.
