Most people are convinced that as long as they are not overtly forced to do something by an outside power, their decisions are theirs, and that if they want something, it is they who want it. But this is one of the great illusions we have about ourselves. A great number of our decisions are not really our own but are suggested to us from the outside; we have succeeded in persuading ourselves that it is we who have made the decision, whereas we have actually conformed with expectations of others, driven by the fear of isolation and by more direct threats to our life, freedom, and comfort.

#kinnporsche#vegaspete#vegas kornwit theerapanyakul#pete phongsakorn saengtham#gifset#*#dailyvegaspete#//#I considered many characters and ideas when I got the theme Restraint/Freedom out of my last poll#there was a lot that could be done focusing on self-restraint but I also wanted to work with physical restraint (e.g. handcuffs)#so naturally it got me thinking about the safehouse#but thinking about the safehouse I remembered that Vegas was also trapped in there with Pete#he was born in the prison that was his family and in addition to that his father had him in a chokehold#a grip that Pete relieved a bit when it was just the two of them#with him it wasn't as bad as before#so if he could decide on the matter certainly Vegas would have preferred to keep Pete#but the night the hedgehog died he didn't immediately put Pete back in chains once he got free#he might even have left the key for him to free himself on purpose#he gave Pete every chance to escape the house. to escape him.#to leave like everyone else and save himself from ending like that poor hedgie#dead on Vegas' arms (hands) while he cried helplessly. because that's what happens every time and he can't escape the cycle once it begins.#he keeps trying only to fail again and again. he can't escape himself.#but Pete could. Pete could have run away and never looked back.#and Vegas would have let him. he would have understood.#he would have done the same. he would have run away and escaped it all if he could.#he too ached to be free

Kiyi is the only addition from the comics that I'm willing to acknowledge, however, I will happily ignore everything else abt her story. Instead she is Ozai's daughter and protecting her was what kept Ursa in hiding, at least until a year after the war when Zuko and Katara show up for The Southern Raiders pt 2: Electric Boogaloo.
#zuko's redesign stems from my headcanon that after trying to be like his predecessors for a hot minute#he ultimately realises that another Sozin/Azulon/Ozai is not the answer so he kinda de-militarises his royal outfits to represent that#(also all i can think abt when i see comic zuko is him going sideways to get through doorways)#so bye bye big military-style shoulderpads and hello soft flowing robes#also no more bangs because what were they thinking#i have a fic idea where zutara find Ursa and Kiyi with prisoner Azula's help only for a landslide to seperate them right after reuniting#zk and Ursa on one side and Azula and Kiyi on the other#so Azula is faced with a LOT#does she escape? does she take revenge on Ursa by leaving Kiyi defenseless?#she has a whole crisis but ultimately protects Kiyi and returns her to Ursa even though it sacrifices her only chance at freedom#this action doesn't redeem her or spare her the consequences of her past actions but it does start her on that journey#zuko#kiyi#my posts#atla#atla fanart#my art#gonna add zutara cos this does allude to a zutara au i have in mind even though it isn't strictly speaking abt zk themselves#zutara

Lena's not at her waterside hideout, the writings she left behind say she was Magica's shadow spy, but Webby doesn't believe that and her friendship bracelet gives Lena a way to come back- for a moment- long enough to prove Webby right

i finished the dragon republic with tears in my eyes and starting the burning god with still said tears, not giving myself time to grieve because just like rin, i am self-destructive

#alan wake#like this is fully what they already are - not in a 'someone make this content' way. they just Are#alan wake 2#alice wake#tom zane#barbara jagger#barbara dies in a tragedy and tom is overcome with grief and through art and song (film/poetry) moves heaven and earth to bring#her back from the darkness - only to discover the dark place did not grant him his love again merely a shade of her#and so in that same roiling grief he destroyed himself - cast himself back into hell#the dark place took Alice so Alan followed her into hell - but despite Thomas's guidance he could not save both himself and Alice#and so he did the impossible and trapped himself in exchange for her freedom#Alan was taken by the dark place and so Alice followed him into hell once more#and she - knowing he could not afford to look back if he was ever to escape - tricked him into thinking she was already lost#sacrificing herself to lead him back to the light#and now the cycle is broken. alan cannot follow her into hell again - at least not in the same way as before#but in breaking the cycle he has declared himself the master of two worlds - is this hubris? has he doomed himself again with those words?#or does he hold the reins now? will he be able to reach into the underworld and free her? have they trancended myth itsel#*itself?#anyway.
