summary: Black!ballet reader invites the triplets to her recital.

warnings: none besides a couple of pictures of a white girl but I promised I tried to find a picture of a black girl but i couldn't. don't jump me plz.

"Do you think she will like the flowers?" Chris asks swallowing thickly. Nick and Matt roll their eyes for what feels like the thousandth time today. All day Chris has been freaking out.

Why?

Because of Y/N.

The little ballerina made him so nervous and he couldn't figure out why. Every time he was around her he felt this impending sense of doom, but he craved it. In some odd sadistic way, he loved the panic it brought him, how it would make his stomach churn and hard to breathe.

"Chris if you freak out one more time, I'm going to strangle you." Nick snaps as they take their seats. Chris huffs to himself and starts fiddling with his tie. A guy dressed like a server walks around holding out programs. Chris takes one and shows his brothers, "Oh my god they are doing 'Princess and The Frog'! I love that movie!" Nick gasps.

"Look, Y/N is the Prima...what the hell is that?" Chris takes out his phone and looks it up. " it's basically the lead. It says it's usually the best dancer." The boys look at the pamphlet impressed. They knew Y/N was a ballerina, but they didn't know she was that good to be the Prima. Granted they've only known her for two months, but she never bragged about being good.

Soon the lights dim and the boys look towards the stage.

Loud music fills the theatre and that's when they realize there is a live orchestra.

"In the south land, there's a city, way down on the river"

Dancers in different costumes begin to prance around the stage. Of the three boys, Nick is the most entertained. Chris and Matt find it intriguing, but they don't really understand what's going on.

Eventually, the first song ends and the next song starts.

A girl prances out on stage dressed in a brown leotard and tutu. the song picks up and Chris finds himself smiling wide when Y/N joins the girl on stage.

"momma, I don't have time for dancing... that's just gonna have to wait awhile."

Y/N dances elegantly around the stage to the music. her movement fluid and smooth.

The boys watch, happy to see their friend on stage in her element. She's in a yellow leotard and tutu, her hair in a low bun.

Male dancers join the two girls on stage and begin to dance with them, lifting them in the air and doing all types of tricks.

"I'm almost there!"

The spotlight shines on Y/N as she twirls in endless circles before she stops at the exact same time as the music, her form perfect.

The crowd begins to clap and the girl smiles widely as she prances off the stage with the other dancers. "Oh my god Y/N being Tiana is perfect!" Nick excitedly claims as he claps.

Chris couldn't agree more.

The crowd stops clapping and waits for the next part to start.

"Don't you disrespect me, little man!"

Three males suddenly appear on stage. One dressed like a maid, the other a prince, and the last like the Shadowman. Nick bounces in his seat, singing along to the song.

The males move around the stage, their movements enchanting yet exhilarating, matching the vibes of the Shadowman's song perfectly.

"Shake my hand, come on boys won't you shake a poor sinner's hand?"

The drums from the orchestra send vibrations through the audience's bodies. Dancers dressed in black crawl onto the stage, circling the maid and the prince. Following the lyrics, they begin to grab at the prince who looks scared and is trying to get away. They yank at his clothes, pulling him around the stage.

"You can blame my friends on the other side!" the dancers start yanking the prince off stage and the maid chases after them.

The "Shadowman" spins in endless circles before taking a bow.

"Hush!" The lights turn off and you can see the curtain drop. Once again, the crowd applauds.

The production of the performance has been amazing so far.

The costumes, the set design, everything.

The lights turn on, but stay dim as the curtain raises.

"If I were a human being," another male dancer prances onto the stage, dressed in a dark green outfit. Unlike the other dancers, his movements are a bit wonky, signifying the gator named Lewis.

The prince from before joins him, this time in a green suit.

Chris blocks them out until he sees Y/N join them. She's in a green leotard, signifying Tiana's frog form.

He thought the yellow leotard was pretty, but the green just suited her even more.

The trio dances around the stage, all of them dancing in their own styles. It was interesting to see how their dance styles complemented the song.

"When I'm human!"

They all pose and allow the applause to happen before another male comes on stage. His suit a stark difference from the others. Brown with hints of orange and glowing.

" Alright lew lew, let's get to it, darling!"

A country-esque song starts playing, and the original three dancers frown in confusion. More dancers in glowing costumes skip onto stage as the song continues. Y/N and the male dancers join them, mock confusion still on their faces as they jump around on stage.

They are led off stage by one of the dancers as the song ends.

"This is so good, oh my god!" Nick whispers in amazement.

before Matt or Chris can respond,

"look how she light up the sky, Ma Belle Evangline."

Chris feels that same impending doom as Y/N comes onto the stage. Her curls are now down and flowing freely down her back, her skin glowing as the spotlight focuses on her. The slow song continues as she elegantly dances across the stage.

Her eyes are closed as she blissfully moves.

She looks ethereal.

As she dances, it all begins to make sense to Chris.

"I love you, Evangeline."

He has a crush on her.

Chris tunes out the rest of the recital until the end.

It seems like it's the ending dance between the prince and Y/N.

"For the way you changed my plans."

Her dress from before is replaced by an off-white and moss-green one. Her hair up in a high bun as a crown adorns her head, her pointe shoes being a sage green.

Chris feels like the air has been punched out of him as he sees her.

Y/N and the prince dance closely, their bodies touching intimately. The dance is full of love, it brings tears to Nick and Matt's eyes, as well as a few other audience members.

It's like Chris is in a trance as he watches her dance.

"You're the best thing I ever knew I needed," the dancer lifts Y/N up above his head and twirls around.

Chris wishes it was him.

"Now it's so clear, I need you here always"

The two stop dancing and hold each other close, foreheads touching as the music slowly comes to a halt.

Everyone stands up and begins to applaud.

A standing ovation.

Chris whistles and claps the hardest, proud of seeing Y/N dominate the stage.

After final bows and such, the triplets walk behind the stage and wait for Y/N.

"Are you guys Nick, Matt, and Chris? Y/N wanted me to grab you and bring you to her." the boys nod and follow the male in tights behind the doors.

They arrive and see Y/N excitedly talking to another girl. She sees the boys and gasps before hugging them.

"Did you guys enjoy the show?"

She was so excited to see what they thought. She was also a bit nervous since they hadn't seen her dance until now.

"Girl, you were amazing! unbelievable!"

"Yeah, you were great. Everyone was!"

"you looked gorgeous on the stage." Y/N can't help but smile widely at them, her heart beating fast due to Chris's comment.

"I umm... I got you these," he says handing her the bouquet of tulips. Y/N stares at them in awe. "Chris.... they're beautiful! you didn't have to get me flowers." she takes the bouquet with soft eyes. Chris smiles at the look on her face, "Yeah but you deserve them. You were amazing on stage and you look gorgeous."

A shy giggle makes its way from Y/N and she looks away from him.

"let's take pictures!" Nick suggests. The group begins to take pictures with Y/N, group ones first then individual.

When it's Chris's turn, Y/N grabs her bouquet and smiles. Chris places his hands on her waist, gripping her softly.

They stop when another dancer walks up to Matt and Nick and begins talking to them.

"Can I tell you something?" Chris asks softly, his hands fiddling with the edge of her tutu. "yeah, sure."

"I get this impending sense of doom when I'm around you. I thought it was bad, but I craved the feeling. It's like I'm addicted. when you were on stage during your solo, I realized something-" Chris finally looks away from her tutu and at her.

"I realized that impending doom was butterflies in my stomach. You make me so damn nervous and it's crazy because I don't get nervous around most girls, but you just drive me crazy, in a good way. I have only known you for two months but I really like you Y/N."

Chris stares, hopeful the ballerina won't turn him down.

"More than friends."

Y/N feels warmth across her whole body.

She also had a crush on the boy, but she never acted on it afraid he would turn her down. Now here he is, confessing his feelings in such a raw way.

"R-really?" Chris nods and moves a bit closer, his hands wrapping around her waist. Their foreheads touch and his eyes gaze at her lips for a moment.

"Be my Evangeline?"

A wide smile breaks across Y/N's face.

Still in her pointe shoes, she goes up on her toes and pulls Chris into a soft kiss.

"Nick, are you crying?"

"Shut the fuck up Matt, this is too cute, and if you tell anyone I cried I'm killing you in your sleep!"

So I was thinking about creating a loose list of recs for ORV fans or, in other words, "If you liked ORV, you also may like this." I decided to add things less obvious because I think people already read works like Trash of Count's Family, etc.

Princess Tutu

“The beginning of a story is a sudden event; the start, a happy accident, the end, the fate for which it's meant. A story that never ends is a sad fate.”

Let's start with Princess Tutu (PT), anime, not manga because they're different. I watched it about a week before ORV and after finishing both, I can't help but notice their similarities. However, meanwhile, ORV is about the relationship between the reader, the author, and the protagonist, and PT is more about the relationship between the author and their creation: the story and its characters. Don't let the name fool you, don't be like me. It's much darker than I expected from this style and genre. Be ready for angst.

Plot: Ahiru is a small duck in a pond. One day she notices a dancing boy with a very sad gaze. Boy every day goes to dance near the pond and the little duck is completely mesmerized by him. She can't help but notice sadness and loneliness in his dance. She wants to make this boy smile and at that moment a writer Droselmeir appears. He tells her that she could do this by collecting shards of his broken heart but under some conditions. He gives her a magic pendant that can transform her, first into an ordinary human girl, then into the graceful ballerina Princess Tutu, a fictional character from the tale that was doomed for tragedy in the original story.

Later we find out that this city is kinda enchanted by Droselmeir's tale (reverse isekai before it became mainstream) and some characters broke out of the tale like the boy by the lake - Mytho or Raven - the villain of this tale. Tale elements blend interestingly in the city and its residents.

Also, I have no idea wtf is happening with the main characters' dynamic in this complicated rectangle, but there is no straight explanation for this.

I can't help but see some parallels between Mytho - KDJ, Fakir - both YJH & HSY, Ru - HSY, and Droselmeir - Dokkaebi. I love how the story describes characters doomed by narrative and the struggles of being a writer. Also, all of these subtle references to fairytales at the beginning of the episode? Love it. I bet there are more references for the ballet part, but I probably didn't get it. I gently encourage you to check it out. (Definitely not gently, I'm as desperate as Kim Dokja trying to advertise TWSA to other people)

Miss not Sidekick

It's a much simpler read, just to chill and have fun while laughing at Mc shenanigans. Plot: Typical isekai story, where Mc is a fan of the internet novel of the reverse harem genre. When isekaied decided to invent popcorn and enjoy full time 4d immersion in the story.

There are not so many similarities in themes like with Princess Tutu, but more the role of MC – Latte as reader. I liked how she continued to behave like a spectator of a story inside Isekai world, treating it like she's inside a special 4D theater, not existing in this world as a part of it, until she couldn't.

Until her 4th wall is shattered (*badabums* it's a bad pun, she doesn't have it like kdj) and she realizes she could actually die, (quite shocking I know). Also, MC invents BL for this world and converts other people into it. Overall, the art style is different from other isekai romfant and it's something you need time to get used to, but after a while, you understand it suits perfectly for the narrative and silly tone of the comic.

Inso's Law or My Life as an Internet Novel

I feel like it's more reverse isekai similar to orv, where the story becomes part of your life. But if in KDJ's case, this transition is obvious and life-crashing, then in MC's situation is really creepy. It blends seamlessly into her regular life making her feel insane because everything remains the same except having a whole new friend who behaves like your bestie and a different school, where everything starts to feel like a romantic novel full of clichés. MC like KDJ is also unreliable in her perception of others here and thinks her knowledge of clichés like a reader-outsider makes her more omnipotent than she really is. Too bad they used 3 person POV, so it's really obvious, but funny nevertheless. (One of the cases where she thinks one of her classmates is a girl pretending to be a boy cause of some kind of cliché family drama, when in fact it's just a boy and I find it funny how this classmate looks like Jang Hayoung twin and have similar fate, poor souls) guess she also has similarities in her character to pre-scenario or regular life KDJ. They both seem to have this introverted avoidance type of personality. I'm curious about supernatural events happening in manhwa and I hope we'll get some explanation for it.

It's all vibes and similar tropes now, folks.

Like dynamic between the main trio: Gilbert - Oz - Alice YJH - KDJ - HSY. Also this time loop thing? Daddy issues? Self-sacrifice as a form of love? Ugh. (Also, I need this scene with Oz and Brake "Where in the world are you?" But with KDJ. Maybe I even draw it).

Turns out, the writers wanted to, and stop me if you've heard this before, play with the tropes and symbolism of fairy tales. Wow, I've never seen any kind of pop culture do that before... except for Into the Woods, The Princess Bride, Hook, Shrek, Princess Tutu, Ella Enchanted, Hoodwinked!, Enchanted, Tangled, Once Upon a Time, Frozen, RWBY, Ever After High, Red Shoes and the Seven Dwarves, Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio, and Nimona. But other than those, that's so original!

Dude, I don't know why, but that gave off so many Nostalgia Critic vibes. I'm sorry if it gets annoying mentioning him so many times on your blog, but damn that was just funny. Bravo man. 👏

It's okay. I used to watch him a lot when I was in high school, so I guess a bit of his comedic style influenced me when writing that part.

First fic: Gone, a Princess Tutu fic that was actually originally published on FFN that I also apparently diligently backdated the published date on, since 01/07/2011 pre-dates my joining AO3 by almost exactly a year. It's a post-series introspective piece from Duck's POV that I do not recommend.

Last fic: Here There Be Sea Beasts, the first chapter/prologue to an OFMD The Sea Beast AU. At this point I'll definitely have to wait until after s2 to work on it any more I think, in case that changes how I want to shuffle the characters around

Only once: Like a Swan on a Lake which is for the Wicked musical (though it also draws slightly from the book Wicked and from the Wizard of Oz book). It's sort of a fix-it, where Glinda goes with Elphaba at the end of Act 1, except I got wrapped up entirely in Fiyero's POV on it, so he's primarily the one fixing it.

Favorite fic from the fandom I've written in most: So the fandom I've written the most in by word count and the one I've written the most in by number of works is actually different, but I'm going to go with number of works and save the other fic for a different question. The fandom I've written the most works for is Smallville, and my favorite fic is... let's go with Love, As Told By... the asexual Clark fic, written and published about 4 years before I realized I was ace, lol. Also I got a really sweet review on it on FFN from a reader who was also ace that read it as a bedtime story to their baby sibling to both introduce them to fanfiction and as a springboard to explain to their sib about their asexuality and what that means and everytime I read that review I just go 🥹

Fic I wish more people read: My immediate reaction was all of them, but actually, no, don't read some of the old ones, lol. I mean you can, they're still up for a reason, but... Okay, let's go with Each Happy Ending as a slightly more recent one that didn't get as much attention as I would have liked. It's a Good Omens Enchanted AU focusing on Azcrow, but putting them in the role of Nancy & Edward from the movie. I really liked how it turned out!

Fic I agonized over & Fic that sprang fully formed: I'm sorry, but I'm skipping both of these. How the writing process felt overall as I was working on various different fics is not something that I'm going to be able to remember. I barely know how I'm feeling right now, much less how I felt writing something from a decade ago. That's past!Nicnac's domain, and frankly none of my business.

Work(s) I'm proud of: Here's where we're going to circle back to that most word count, The Whole of Us my 145k Gravity Falls novel about what if Stanford was Dipper and Mabel's biological dad and also there was a ton of emotional healing from trauma. There are so many individual scenes that I love, plus the way it all came together is great. And I'm still so impressed with myself for finishing something so long!

DUDES, i had a dream that princess Tutu got a reboot and the story got expanded and it was a little creepier. Like Drosselmeyer sent these weird creatures to follow Duck around and she was not having a good time at all. She would spend a lot of time by the lake/pond she came from and she would express her love through art like drawing and even sculpting. So maybe her school was like interdisciplinary where the students take courses for their main focus like her taking several ballet classes, but also taking other courses like these art classes where she was actually pretty decent. But she went from painting Mytho to painting Fakir and her crush on him was more developed and a little more obvious. She was so cute. There was a forest that went past her pond and it was pretty creepy because the forest had all these trees with fallen leaves so they were pointy and frightening and Duck ran into the forest to get away from the creatures Drosselmeyer sent after her, so she got lost and couldn't find her way out for a while. This caused Fakir to worry about her and he sets out to go look for her because he can sense something is wrong. So he takes his horse and sword and goes into the enchanted forest to look for her. The series was SO much fun!!! The story was just like Ohmg!!!! Duck got lost!!! Duck is in danger!!! Who will save her? The prince she once loved or the knight she is falling for?
