Legacy of Chronos: Daughter of the Unknown God
Through her travels around the world/Infinite Realms, Ellie stumbles on Camp Halfblood and is mistaken for a demigod. She is determined to be a legacy of Cronus (Clockwork) and the child of an unknown god with a DP symbol (Danny).
Cue everyone mistaking Chronos for Kronos and thinking that the mystery god is a child of Kronos born sometime while he was in Tartarus. This misunderstanding is not helped by the fact that the Underworld is part of the Infinite Realms and portals to the Ghost Zone where often mistaken for portals to Tartarus.
Now Zeus is freaking out and wants to use Ellie as leverage against her father who obviously wants to take over Olympus. Percy/Thalia/Nico/Lester/whoever is now trying to keep Ellie out of Zeus’s paranoid clutches and get her back to Tartarus before her father goes looking for her.
(Ellie is so happy she made new friends, they’re even going to take her on a road trip to LA. Sure they seemed really nervous when she mentioned Danny would come looking for her if she didn’t check in soon, how was she supposed to know Hellhounds are cellphones anyway)

ᡣ𐭩 loser!ellie brainrot :(((

hanging out with loser!ellie early on in the relationship and sitting on her lap. she was nervous at first so you got her talking about her interests and it seemed to relax her pretty fast. she's been rambling about dinosaurs nonstop for the past thirty minutes, talking and talking as if you're gonna fade away – she has to fill awkward silence :(
and the poor girl hasn't realised you aren't even listening to her rambles. no, you're too focused on the way her hand is stroking your inner thigh. calloused from years of plucking strings and creating fine art, her fingers brush against your soft skin and she fails to notice how dangerously close she's getting to right where you want her. it feels so mean, this teasing, and you can't help the slight pouting of your lips, but ellie isn't doing it intentionally and you know that. even with the subtle shifting of your hips, ellie's lost in her own words.
despite the use of all kinds of hints, she still won't realise what she's done to you. she's too oblivious, and if you were to straight up ask, she'd be scared away. so you just accept that the sticky, warm feeling that's burning in your underwear isn't going to be relieved tonight.

It was another patrol with Ellie. At this point, you're both convinced that Tommy is pairing you up on purpose. It was quiet this time, just checking an area that was just outside Jackson for any infected. Luckily, it seemed to be clear so far which you were thankful for. Still, Ellie was on edge, her hand gripping her trusty knife while she walked by your side.
"I don't think there's any infected here." You break the silence, almost making Ellie jump with how on edge she was. "Let's check around the bend." She ignores your dismissal and continues walking. You sigh but follow her nonetheless. "So," You start, Ellie's attention now on you as you both continued to walk. "Seems like we keep getting paired up together for patrol." You state the obvious but Ellie laughs anyway.
"Yeah, we must be a good team." She nudged her shoulder into your side gently. It was your turn to laugh now. "Yeah, guess we are." You shot her a smile to which she so graciously returned. The silence overtook the two of you despite how much you wanted to continue the conversation.
The two of you were coming up to the bend. Ellie was still gripping her knife, probably tighter now. She looked at you, silently asking if you were ready to which you nodded. She nodded back, letting you know she understood before she motioned for you to follow her. The both of you turned the corner and were met with nothing. You let out a relieved sigh but Ellie's guard was still up.
"I guess it's clear." She spoke quietly as she lowered her knife. "Should we head back then?" You matched your volume to hers. "Yeah... Yeah." She nodded as she turned around and you were quick to follow her.
It had only been 5 minutes that the two of you had been walking and it was a long walk to Jackson. "Ellie?" You call her name with no sign of distress in your voice but she still turns around as quickly as she can, scanning you and the area around you to make sure you weren't in any danger. "What?" She says a little harsher than she meant to, her heartbeat still racing at the mere thought of you in danger.
"Sorry, didn't mean to scare you." You laugh awkwardly and hold your hands up in a surrender position and she turns back around to continue walking and gesturing for you to follow her. "You didn't." You knew it was a lie considering she almost just went into cardiac arrest but just nodded your head in response.
"What's up? Did you need something?" She looks at you while she walks, vaguely keeping an eye in front of you two just in case. "Just feels like forever since we had the chance to catch up. You've just been so busy with Cat." Her name rolls off your tongue with malice but Ellie doesn't seem to notice it.
Ellie laughs awkwardly, reaching her hand to the back of her neck. "Yeah, sorry. You know her, she's just kinda, like, possessive and shit." She bit her lip and you couldn't tell if she was turned on by that or embarrassed. "Well, maybe we could hang out tonight?" You smile at her with butterflies in your stomach as you hope she says yes.
"Tonight? Can't. I'm busy with you know... stuff." She spoke quickly, scanning your face for any sign of a reaction. "Stuff?" You question. Did she have plans with Cat? "Sorry." She decided she was done with this conversation, walking ahead of you silently. "Hey, wait." You quicken your pace to catch up with her.
"What kind of stuff? Maybe I could help?" You try again, maybe this time you'll get to hang out with your best friend who you so desperately want to spend time with. Ellie stays quiet and it starts to piss you off how neglecting she's being. "Hellooo?-" Within seconds, Ellie is pressing you behind a tree with her hand covering your mouth.
You look at her, confused by her sudden movements. She moves a finger up to her lips, signaling you to be quiet. You follow her instructions despite how utterly lost you were. After a few seconds, you can hear the sound of a clicker and your heart instantly starts beating faster. "Let it go by." She mouths, a hushed whisper coming out but not loud enough for the clicker to hear it.
Ellie shifts her body and you're suddenly aware of just how close she is. You can feel the items she has shoved in her pockets and the fabric of her shirt against your exposed skin. You swallow thickly and Ellie is sure it's because of how close that clicker is and how unequipped the both of you are and definitely not the fact that she's close enough to smell the homemade perfume you're wearing. Right?
Seconds pass and seconds turn to minutes. Ellie's hand is still covering your mouth and her body is still pressed against yours. You reach your hands up, prying her hand off your mouth. "I think it's gone." You whisper. "Oh, yeah! Yeah, you're right." She backs away from you with a blush on her face and kicks some sticks with her shoe.
You watch Ellie return to the route, waiting for you to be right next to her before she starts walking. Your footsteps are off pace and have no rhythm clashing with the way Ellie walked, which was with reason. It was quiet for a while. It wasn't awkward but it wasn't peaceful either. You were caught up in your head and you were sure Ellie was as calm as ever.
You were so horribly wrong. Ellie's mind was racing, thinking of how close your bodies were, how you leaned into her when you heard the clicker, how badly she wanted to kiss you, how she had a girlfriend. Oh, right, Cat.
"How did you even hear it?" You break the silence, far too tired of the anxiousness growing in your body. Ellie looked at you and shook her head. "Dumb luck." She chuckles quietly and kicks a rock with her shoe as the two of you continue your way back to Jackson. "Oh." You sound relieved and she doesn't understand why but she doesn't press you on it, instead just keeping quiet and hoping to get home soon.
"Good ear." You compliment and smile at her. She gives you a small nod, choosing not to acknowledge you anymore. The gravel underneath your feet feels so loud to you as you gather more courage that you don't seem to have. "Since tonight isn't good, do you maybe wanna watch a movie on Friday?" You pull your hands up in front of you, keeping them at your midriff as you pick away on dead skin.
Ellie stops in her tracks, turning to look at you. You almost bump into her, stumbling on your feet for a moment before recomposing yourself and looking at her with a confused look. "I have a girlfriend. You are aware that Cat is my girlfriend, right?" She sounded harsh like you shouldn't have even thought about asking Ellie to hang out.
You both freeze as you realize this was the first time Ellie ever admitted to being with Cat. Sure, you and Dina had speculated, but up until now, you didn't even know for sure if Ellie likes girls or not.
"I mean, I kinda assumed. Yeah?" You didn't know what Cat had to do with you asking Ellie to hang out. "So, stop trying to ask me out." Oh. "I wasn't-" She doesn't let you finish your sentence before she starts rambling. "You have been. For months. 'Ellie, do you wanna do this' or 'Ellie, let's do this.' Lay off." The words stung her just as much as they stung you.
You were angrier than anything. Where was this audacity coming from? "Am I not allowed to want to hang out with my friend?" Your attitude rose with every word. Ellie wasn't wrong though. You may have been playing it off as just wanting to hang out with your friend but with every little advance, a part of you hoped Ellie would take it in a non-platonic way.
She stood there not saying a word. Had she really got it wrong? "Whatever." She turned back around. She didn't wait for you to walk with her this time. Quite frankly, if you had to guess, you'd say she's probably hoping you walk 10 feet behind her.

A/n: Thinking about Knight!Ellie x Princess!Reader because I just love this trope so much. It's literally a fave of mine along with grumpy x sunshine ("I hate everyone but you") and enemies to lovers. This'll be constantly edited because it isn't proofread and more ideas will come to me soon.
Disclaimers/warnings: OOC?, I'm so sorry but English is not my first language so please don't come after me.
Tiny sidenote: Implied chubby reader???
Tumblr media
♡ Knight!Ellie who literally was just stuttering and speechless when she first saw and met you. Your parents kept you face hidden from the public, of course that being done maids who are not one of your personal maids gossip about how you are more likely to be ugly, must be why your parents kept you.
Of course rumours spread like wildfire in the castle and the maiden who said such things lost her job and Ellie being a new knight, she's heard of said rumors but she didn't care nonetheless because she was getting paid worth at least two chests filled with gold coins to protect you.
♡ Knight!Ellie who became attached to you because you're so beautiful, how could she not? Although there were downsides to this, Ellie realized that the first time your parents had you meet a suitor.
♡ Knight!Ellie who had to stand there and watch on the side as you danced with a suitor, his hands on your body in such a way that made you so uncomfortable. Ellie watched as your face contorted a bit wondering what kind of a daft oblivious idiot won't notice it.
She saw the way you squinted your eyes in pain everytime when the suitor hastily steps on your foot. The little whimper that came out of your mouth because of how much weight the suitor stepped on you with, he didn't even apologize, not after he did it every 3 minutes.
♡ Knight!Ellie who was incredibly livid, the fact that he didn't take you into consideration, so mad that she was clenching her fists that she swore it would bleed if she doesn't cut her finger nails regularly. (We all know why she does)
♡ Knight!Ellie who always pays attention even when you think she's not, whenever you sneak out into town even when she's surveillancing around for anything that might cause you danger she'd know when a puddle is there and would either lay her coat down so you can step on it and continue walking or carry you and put you down when you passed the puddle.
♡ Knight!Ellie who saw how you interacted with the town's folk despite how none of them knew who you truly are. How the kids adored you, giving you wild flowers they've picked. The kids noticed how you took one of those flowers and poked it through her hair in between her ear, the look Ellie gave you of pure love being overlooked by the oblivious darling that you are.
A little girl called her out on it saying that she doesn't blame Ellie, only a fool would be stupid enough not to love you. Said little girl was told by Ellie to keep the secret of the little crush and you turn back to both of them with a confused look as to what they're talking about but the little girl just giggles and Ellie shrugs and smiles innocently at you.
♡ Knight!Ellie who finds so many different ways to touch you and any excuse to do so. She'd help you up a carriage by holding your hand even though she knows you can get up by yourself. She'd have her hand on the small of your back, the other on your hand again whenever guiding you to a rocky or unstable platform.
♡ Knight!Ellie who faced a lot of criticism for being female and has been through a lot during her training because other knights treated her differently but now that she's with you, she think it's worth it and is most certainly cocky to her colleagues about it and shoving it into their mean faces.
♡ Knight!Ellie who would rather die than face her own blade towards you in any way possible, she'd even go as far as you beg you if you accidentally point her sword/dagger towards yourself asking you "Princess please, don't ever do that again".
♡ Knight!Ellie who pleasures you in the way others have failed, she makes you feel loved, protected and cared for. She never half-asses anything that has to do with you because no matter what, she knows you deserve only the best.
♡ Knight!Ellie who worships the ground you walk on, every single thing that you do makes her fall in love with you even more. She'd defend your honor as if her life depended on it.
♡ Knight!Ellie who is always at your beck and call, even if you don't even ask her to help you with anything. Something as simple as helping you dress and being able to kiss skin on your shoulder in which she revealed by moving your chamise and putting it back in place when she's done. Most definitely loves helping you with your clothing, so much so that she goes down on her knees just to help you slip on you shoes.
♡ Knight!Ellie who smokes but when you caught her, she promised you she would quit and she did. But relentlessly teased you saying you just wanted to keep her alive longer for yourself, not that it isn't true but you'd never tell her that right?
♡ Knight!Ellie noticing the little things about you, how strands of your hair make their way in front of your face and how you huff in annoyance because it disrupts you of whatever you are doing so you blow it back. She finds herself tucking the strand behind your ear for you.
♡ Knight!Ellie who loves it when you read to her, how you so comfortably ask a commoner like her to be in your bed chambers and to make her lay in your bed as you read to her.
Her heart beats faster, her breath hitches the moment you thank her for providing you protection, safety and care. The young knight butting in saying that you deserve nothing less, looking up at you with those beautiful sage green eyes of hers.
♡ Knight!Ellie caring more about your well being than her own, constantly forgetting to eat meals, losing sleep and not giving herself enough time to heal when injured so you just had to sit her down. You took care of her, fed her and changed her bandages when you was too stubborn to do so, to say that Ellie knew in that moment, she just couldn't help herself. That was the first time she kissed you.
♡ Knight!Ellie who can't get enough of your kisses, your soft lips hitting her chapped ones, giving it warmth and life. She pull you in, arms wrapped around your body and hands rested on you back. You cupped her face continuing to share your warmth with her. That cemented it for Ellie, she just had to have you no matter how guilty and selfish she felt about it.
♡ Knight!Ellie who lays awake at night dreaming what it would be like if she was able to express her love for you in public, let the world know that you belong to each other.
♡ Knight!Ellie who used to use sweet nicknames as a tease and now using it as a term of endearment putting the word "my" before each one whenever in the privacy of four walls.
♡ Knight!Ellie who makes anytime with you feel domestic, just makes her want to take you with her and run away to a small cottage near a field where you two could happily live the life of a married couple, maybe even adopt a child.
♡ Should I do Knight!Abby x Princess!Reader or Knight!Abby x Maiden!Reader next? Both? Honestly I need more Abby content. (Maiden = Commoner)

It had been three weeks since the motel, or somewhere near it, at least—it was hard to tell when you were this exhausted. After a very hard fought win, Joel had scored the three of you a truck with the help of Bill, his…interesting acquaintance that lived in his own town outside of Boston. Three weeks of silence. Three weeks of nothing.
Until tonight.
Joel had been up driving for the better part of the day, his eyelids growing heavier with each blink. You watched him from the passenger seat, Ellie fast asleep in the backseat thanks to the old country playing on a cassette she’d found.
“Joel,” you started, secretly hoping that you wouldn’t have to say anything more to him than that.
God only knows what would come out if he got you on a roll.
“Yep?” he rasped, voice scratchy with exhaustion.
“Let me drive,” you pleaded. Joel glanced over at you with a scowl, and although you could tell he wanted to say no, he was beat. “C’mon.”
“Alright, just for a couple hours,” he sighed, pulling over onto the side of the road. The two of you took a quick scan around before exiting the truck, the dark night making it difficult to assess the danger. “Here, just—“ He waved you over, silently demanding you crawl over his lap and trade seats without having to get out. You bit your lip as you assessed the risk—climbing over his lap meant you’d have to touch him, perhaps even feel his hand on your hip guiding you. Could you really risk opening that can of worms after weeks of relative peace? “What are you—“
You opened your door and quickly made your way around in the light downpour to his, opening it up and patiently waiting for him to get over himself and climb out.
“You’re ridiculous,” he hissed as he stepped out of the car, his shoulder bumping into yours as he passed you. Insults you could take, but the look in his eyes? That look of sheer disdain could’ve killed you if you were a slightly weaker woman.
Climbing into the drivers seat, you tried to blink away the tears that had begun to blur your vision while Joel seemingly took a bathroom break by a bush. You didn’t mind the delay, it just made it easier for you to rid yourself of your tears in peace.
“You okay?” Ellie’s voice from the backseat startled you, making you jump as you wiped your eyes dry. Clearing your throat you nodded, looking in the rear view mirror at her with a weak smile.
“Yeah. I’m good.” She gave you a skeptical eyebrow raise as Joel finally climbed into the passenger seat, still wearing his scowl.
“Hurry up and get on the road,” he demanded.
“She was waiting on you,” Ellie chimed in with an irritated tone, surprising Joel. He turned to look back at her, and although you were oblivious to it, Ellie gestured to you and mimed crying, tipping Joel off to your sensitive state.
“Sorry,” he cleared his throat and softened his tone, reaching over to touch your arm but it only caused you to jerk the steering wheel. “Jesus! Are you sure you can drive?”
“Would you—“ you snapped but stopped yourself from saying anything else, the clench in your jaw a sign of the inner strength it took to stop yourself from laying into him. “Just get some rest.”
“I’ll be able to rest when you get us there in one piece,” he huffed, crossing his arms and shifting in the seat so that he was more comfortable.
“Maybe if you sleep you’ll wake up less of an ass,” Ellie mumbled to herself and pulled a soft chuckle from you.
Although the two of you tried to keep all this drama between yourselves, you knew Ellie wasn’t dumb. She could see the way you looked at him, the way he looked at you, the way you quieted in his presence, the way he grew mean in yours. You didn’t want her to pick sides, but in all honestly, Joel wasn’t making it easy for her to root for him with his quick temper and no-nonsense attitude.
It wasn’t long before the sounds of the road lulled Joel to sleep, his familiar soft snores shattering you in ways you’d never confess to out loud.
“So…how did you two meet?” Ellie asked after a couple hours of silence, leaning in between the gap between the two front seats to talk to you, her voice kept low as to not wake the grump beside you.
“El, I don’t really wanna—“
“Please? I’m going crazy thinking about everything…give me something less scary to think about,” she pled and you were sighing, caving to her.
“We met in Boston. I was one of the ‘lucky’ ones, I guess. Born there, raised there, was fifteen when the outbreak happened,” you started, eyes constantly flickering over to Joel to make sure he was still asleep. “For a while, the zone was…chaos. You were just a little kid, you probably don’t remember, but it was a war zone between the military, infected, and the hunters. That’s how I met Joel.”
“Yeah, he mentioned something about that.”
“Five years or so ago we were properly introduced—our groups sort of ran with the same crowd, I guess. Me being a smuggler and trader and him being…him.” You couldn’t help the smile that grew on your face as you thought back to simpler times, when his existence didn’t mean so much to you. “After a particularly bad incident that split him and his brother up, I managed to convince him to leave the hunting behind and do what I do.”
“And what was that?”
“Trading ration cards, supplies, meds…smuggling stuff in and out of the zone. Not exactly doing the Lord’s work, but…”
“Not hunting people.” You chuckled.
“Exactly.”
“So when did it…change?” Ellie asked with an awareness that shocked you, leaving you speechless for a moment.
“Eventually, you know, we grew from acquaintances to friends, then from friends into…something more. But there was a lot going on. I was head over heels for him since day one.” You kept your eyes forward, feeling your throat swell with hurt. “Tess was my friend, originally. But then she started to spend more time with Joel, and they eventually became closer than I was to either of them anymore. So, I gave him the choice to pursue her, and he did. That’s…that’s really all there is to it.”
“So…if he hurt you like that, why do you still want him?” Ellie’s questioning had finally become too much, your posture straightening as you breathed in a slow inhale. Your hand reached for the dial to turn up the cassette, desperate for a bit of silence.
“I think that’s enough talking for tonight.”
Ellie seemed to be emotionally intelligent enough to back off, sitting back in her seat and staring out of the window rather than pushing you for more answers to her endless list of questions. Answers you weren’t even sure you had.
You had all but five minutes of silence before Joel was breathing in deep through his nose, his eyes batting open and his posture adjusting.
“Shit, how long have I been out?” He turned to you but you couldn’t chance a glance at him, not after you and Ellie’s stroll down bittersweet-memory lane.
“Uh, a couple hours,” you replied in a weak voice, turning the music down. “We should find somewhere to pull over. I’m getting tired.”
“No, it’s…it’s fine. I’ll take over,” he offered, rubbing his palms over his face until all the leftover drowsiness had faded. “Just pull over and we can switch seats.”
“We need to sleep and eat and fucking pee, Joel. We can stop for a while.” You finally turned to look at him, expecting that narrowed look you’d become familiar with over the last few weeks, but he didn’t look angry. He looked…concerned?
“It’s too dark out…ain’t safe right now,” he whispered, his voice as gentle as his the look in his eyes. “Just let me take over.”
You hardly had time to manage a response before his hand was reaching over, his palm warm as it hesitantly rested on your knee. You let out a shaky breath and cursed yourself for being so weak for him, shaking your head at yourself.
“Ellie, tell the woman to pull over so she can get some damn sleep,” Joel spoke up, looking into the backseat.
“Pull over so you can get some damn sleep,” she repeated, earning a chuckle from you.
“C’mon, darlin’…pull over.” You sighed at his use of a pet name, wanting to scold him for using it so flippantly, but you found yourself pulling over anyways. This time, you and Ellie switched seats so that you could lay down in the back and actually try to get some decent rest.
Tumblr media
You felt a pair of hands run up and down your bare sides, warm and strong and so large. Just one of them was the size of two of yours, and even through the haze of sleep you could tell who they belong to. With a sleepy grin and eyes still closed, you reached up to his neck as he hovered over you, pulling him down until his face was buried in your neck. Arching your back into him, he slipped his arms underneath you and hoisted you back onto his lap, his lips pliant and wet against your pulse.
“Missed you,” Joel husked as he started to guide your hips against his clothed cock, hands gripping the globes of your ass over the cotton of your underwear. “Mm, wake up, darlin’. I wanna see those eyes.”
Leaning back, you still carried a smile as you blinked your eyes open, Joel’s concentrated look earning a soft gasp from your lips as the bulk of his zipper rubbed against your throbbing clit. A smile grew on his own face as he reached up and ran the pad of his thumb over your lip.
“So damn beautiful,” he praised with a look of awe. “I hate havin’ to leave this bed. Especially to go out there.”
“Hard day?” You purred as you leaned in to pepper his neck with kisses, your fingers making quick work of the buttons of his flannel.
“Robert’s up to somethin’…Tess and I tried to snoop around but—“
“Tess?” You immediately felt your stomach flip with jealousy.
“Yeah,” he replied, lifting your head from his neck to inspect the sour look on your face. “Don’t do that.”
“Do what?” You snapped defensively, already having shut yourself away internally. Joel gestured at your face, now irritated.
“That! You get all…worked up over nothin’,” he scolded. You mumbled a sarcastic apology and climbed off his lap and off the bed, feeling his hot gaze on you as you searched for your t-shirt. “How many times do I gotta tell you, Tess and I are friends. That’s it.”
“Yeah, Joel. So are we,” you reminded, the ill-defined nature of your relationship leaving plenty of room for interpretation even after two years of being together.
“I’d just like to have one god damn day where you act like the woman I met,” he snapped, standing up and following you out into your apartment’s living room.
“I’m not the one who’s changed!” Joel watched you as you turned the sink on and poured yourself a glass of shitty tap water, one hand on his hip and a look of disbelief written on his face. “If you would just admit that there’s something going on between you two, we could figure something out! We could…share you or something.”
“Like it’s a damn custody battle?” He guffawed, shaking his head and turning to look out of the window. “You’re delusional.”
“And you’re fucking her!” You shouted, causing him to whip his head around. His eyes were pointed, the kind that you’d seen hundreds of times before but had luckily never been on the receiving end of. In just a few steps he was in front of you, backing you against the counter behind you. Your breath hitched as you stared up into his eyes, all the anger and insecurity leaving your body under the heat of his stare. With a weaker, broken voice, you asked, “Are you fucking her?”
“No.” He shook his head, his voice strong with sincerity. “And don’t you ever accuse me of it again unless you see it with your own damn eyes.” His hands gripped your hips again, his touch less revering but still just as needy and desperate. “You are the only person in this god damned world capable of making me this fuckin’ angry…and this fuckin’ hard.”
He ripped your panties at the side-seams, the cotton falling to the floor as he spun you around to face the counter and kicked your legs apart. Next came your shirt, quickly peeled off you and thrown across the room before his calloused hands ran up and down the expanse of your bare spine and around to your stomach until he was gripping your breasts with both hands.
“Maybe I just gotta fuck this jealousy outta ya,” he proposed as his lips traveled up your shoulder blade to the back of your neck, biting a soft mark into the skin there. You whimpered and nodded, sticking your ass out for him even more than he’d already arranged it, earning a smack to the plump flesh. “All you need is a little reassurin’, don’t ya? My jealous fuckin’ girl.”
The sound of his belt coming undone had you dripping with need, but right as he started to slip into you, you were bolting upright with a plea for air, a cracked gasp leaving your lips as you focused on reality. Joel and Ellie were startled by the sound as they sat in the front seats of the truck, both of their necks craning to glance at you.
It had just been a dream. A bad dream. A fucking good dream.
“Jesus, you okay?” Ellie asked, turning in her chair completely to face you as you sat in the backseat covered in sweat, your chest heaving as you tried to calm the aching arousal between your thighs. You felt completely embarrassed, especially given the racy nature of your dream. Had you said anything out loud in your sleep that gave your subconscious’s deepest desires away? Could Joel tell that you were dreaming about him? The way he avoided your eyes in the rear-view mirror did little to reassure you otherwise.
“Yeah,” you panted back to the teenager. “I’m fine.”
“Yeah, you keep saying that,” she chided, tone laced with disappointment? Frustration? You weren’t sure.
“Ellie, knock it off and turn around. Put your damn seatbelt on,” Joel scolded, much to both of your surprise. Feeling the need to clarify his defense, he spoke again, “We’re almost to Pittsburgh.”
“Pittsburgh?” You gathered yourself enough to object to the plan. “You didn’t say anything about us going through Pittsburgh.”
“Well I didn’t know until about a hundred miles ago,” he responded with a curious tone. “There a reason we shouldn’t?”
“I’ve heard it’s littered with hunters. We should find another way around,” you advised, meeting Joel’s eyes in the mirror.
“I don’t know that we got the gas for that.”
“Joel…you know what hunters do to people. I’d rather us run out of gas in the woods and have to walk than to run into them.”
He took a moment to think about his options, his jaw ticking and thumbs drumming on the steering wheel before he was turning the truck around.
“Alright. There was a small town a few miles back,” he rasped. “We can try to get a night’s rest there and hopefully even some gas.”
You offered him a small smile, silently thanking him for listening to you when he easily could have ignored your advice. Joel didn’t smile back, simply nodding at you once through the rearview mirror, but it was enough to have a frenzy of butterflies swarming in your stomach.
Tumblr media
“Place is clear from what I can tell,” Joel pointed at an abandoned house he just cleared in a small, quiet town about an hour outside of Pittsburgh called Somerset. “Long as we stay quiet and keep our eyes open, I think we’ll be alright out here for the night.”
You stared up at the two-story colonial home, it’s red brick half-covered with kelly-green vines, the white of the doorframe and gazebo now a murky grey. Still, even in it’s withered state, it looked like a nice place to call home. Maybe in another life you’d be living in a home like this with a family you helped create, a cat or a dog to curl up in your lap, a husband that loved you and let you love him.
But that world is simply a fantasy.
The world you found yourself in was grimy, murky, overgrown with weeds and left uncared for. There was no place for a family, no time to sit curled up with a pet, no men left who could give or receive that type of love—that type of luxury.
You needed to learn to let go of these delusions and fantasies if you wanted to stay alive out here. Joel seemed to do it easy enough, after all.
“C’mon,” Joel urged you forward with a small voice, nudging his head towards the house while Ellie was already heading in. You cleared your throat, embarrassed that he’d caught you deep in your thoughts, but as you went to walk past him, his hand gently grabbed hold of your wrist. “Hey, you alright?”
No. No, I’m fucking not. Not with you holding my hand like this. Not with you looking at me like that. Not with you.
Your lips parted to speak but nothing came out. Instead, you gave him a quick nod, your response seemingly not adequate enough for him because he refused to let go of you.
“I’m fine,” you tried to reassure him again, this time mustering more sincerity.
“You can fool her all you want, but you can’t fool me,” he whispered earnestly, shaking his head at you, eyes looking into yours tenderly, almost longing. “What can I do?”
“Joel, you can’t fix this mess,” you gestured to your head. “I’ll be alright.”
“Will you? Because from what I can see, you can’t stay out of your damn head for five minutes,” he continued his whisper yelling, not wanting Ellie or any possible infected to hear. “Tell me what I need to do to help you.”
You stood there looking stunned or stupid, you couldn’t tell by the look of irritation on his face. What were you supposed to do? Beg him to love you again? Beg him to leave you again? No. You’d find a way to be okay on your own. You needed to find a way to be okay on your own.
“I’m not your problem anymore,” you finally decided on.
“The hell you aren’t,” he snapped at a normal volume as you started towards the house. He called your name, clearly not finished with the conversation, but you didn’t stop or turn around. “Baby, please—“
“Do. Not.” You turned your head around, eyes welling with tears instantly as you pointed your finger at him. “Do not call me that. You have no right to call me that.”
“I’m worried about you,” he almost whimpered, his voice cracking with raw emotion as he walked to meet you on the front step. “And you’re right. I have no right to care this much ‘bout someone I’m not with, but…I. Can’t. Help. It.”
“If I have to find a way to be okay without you, you can find a way to stop caring about me,” you argued, fighting the urge to lift your hand to his perfectly rugged face. “I’m tired. Can we go inside now?”
“One last thing,” he begged. “What were you dreaming about in the truck?”
“That’s private,” you snapped.
“You said my name.”
“Yeah, well…you’ve given me plenty to dream about in our time together,” you shrugged. “Good and bad.”
“You’re killin’ me,” he shuddered, shaking his head at you. You watched as his hand raised up, his palm ghosting over your cheek, wanting to cradle it but refraining from making contact. Holding your breath, you tried to will him closer, pleading to some unseen force for him to make a move, to make him try, but no one seemed to be listening. He dropped his hand to his side and sucked in a slow breath, his eyes bouncing between yours. “Just…be okay. Alright?”
“Yeah…I’m working on it.”
You grabbed the doorknob and walked inside, hearing Ellie’s gasps and stunned laughter as she checked out the home.
“Holy shit!” she exclaimed as she came walking down the stairs towards the two of you. “This place insane!”
“Keep your voice down,” Joel scolded dryly, dejected from your conversation. “It’s clear, but that don’t mean it’ll stay that way.”
“Sorry,” she sassed under her breath as she reached you, following the two of you into the living room. “How much was a place like this back then? Like a million dollars?”
“Nah,” Joel started as he inspected the cabinets for any sign of spores. “Round here it was probably only ‘bout two, maybe three hundred.”
“Dollars?”
“Thousand dollars.” He corrected.
“How much was your house?” She inquired as she hoisted herself up onto the kitchen island beside you, your eyes and hands busy unloading a can of beans to settle your rumbling stomach.
“Ya know, that woulda been a rude question to ask somebody back in the day?” Joel grumbled as he turned around, your eyes missing the way his scanned over your concentrated face.
“Well, we’re not back in the day anymore,” Ellie retorted. “How much?”
“Three fifty,” he caved and answered her, too busy watching you to continue this back and forth. When you finished peeling the lid open, your eyes met his on accident, and you watched as he quickly turned to look at Ellie. “Three-hundred-and-fifty thousand dollars down the drain, that is.”
Joel left the room abruptly, mumbling something about going upstairs to look around, leaving you and Ellie standing there with creased eyebrows.
“What’s his deal?” She whispered to you as you handed her a spoon, offering to share the can of room-temp black beans with her to which she accepted.
“I think that’s my fault,” you sighed, spooning some beans into your mouth.
“How’d you put up with him for so long? You two seem so different.”
You chuckled, shaking your head and shrugging. “It wasn’t like this back then. This is…new territory.”
“I can’t imagine him being any different,” she chuckled. “What’s he like when he’s not so…grumpy?”
“Well, he’s always a little grumpy, but that’s a part of his charm,” you smiled. “I don’t know, he was funny and sensitive and sweet…warm, gentle…soft.”
“Joel is soft?”
“Was,” you corrected with an exhale. “Joel was soft. Not…anymore, apparently.”
Tumblr media
Joel laid awake downstairs on the sofa, trying and failing to will his eyes closed for the last hour. Through the window shined a midnight blue glow, casting dark shadows across the hardwood floor. It was silent, no outside force to be blamed for his restlessness, just his aching heart.
He couldn’t sleep knowing that you were right upstairs, clearly aching for him the same way he was for you. He could see how being around him was beginning to eat you alive and how you tried your best to fool him. But he knew you better than he knew himself, your eyes having been his safe place for two damn years. He could see that you were always lost inside your own head and he craved to be able to let you out, to help you come back.
Rolling onto his side, he stared ahead at the long-forgotten fireplace, it’s red brick now blackened with coal black soot. He had half a mind to believe that’s how his heart looked these days—it’s how it felt, at least.
His introspection was cut short by a blood-curdling scream from upstairs, the voice to adult to be Ellie. Joel grabbed his shotgun and raced up the stairs, bursting into your room ready to kill something, but instead being met with the sight of you, freshly awake and panting. You were sat upright on your blanket on the floor, your hand over your heart, eyes squeezed shut, shaking breaths filling the room.
“Just a nightmare,” you offered a bit of explanation in hopes of ridding him of his worry, his face still screwed in terror. “I’m okay.”
“Stop that.” The sternness in his voice woke you all the way up, your eyes widening as he stomped over to you. For just a split second, you feared him, the look in his eyes dark with rage and emotion.
But then he was kneeling down, dropping his gun to the floor beside your makeshift cot, his hands lifting to your cheeks to cradle your head in his hands. You hadn’t even realized you’d been crying until his thumbs were wiping away the stream of tears running down your cheeks. Your throat began to swell at the warmth in his touch, a sob threatening to break free as he stared at you like you were the only thing in this world he cared about.
“Let me be here for you,” he begged in a barely audible whisper. “Let me help.”
“It’ll just hurt more,” you cried, tears flowing again. Joel threw caution to the wind and pulled you into his arms, laying down with you on the floor, your face buried in his neck while he pet the back of your head.
“Is this helpin’ or hurtin’?” he asked in a whisper, his hand on your back rubbing soothing circles to calm you. When you didn’t respond, he tried to let go of you, not wanting to force his comfort upon you that if you weren’t comfortable with it.
As soon as his hands left you, though, you hugged him tighter, a silent demand for him to stay put. You’d almost forgotten how good it felt to be held by him, the way his strong arms wrapped around you like you were something precious, his warmth, the feeling of his body beneath his clothes, even the musk of his natural scent—it all soothed the ache that had been plaguing you since he left. Since the last time he held you like this.
“Talk to me,” he demanded softly, his fingers now lightly scratching your scalp. “What were you dreamin’ about?”
“It’s…embarrassing,” you confessed, your words muffled as you kept your face buried in his neck.
“Darlin’,” he cooed, his fingers lowering from your head to run up and down your bicep in featherlight strokes. Sitting up a bit so that you were looking into his eyes, you hesitated before speaking, not wanting to ruin this moment with the truth.
“Dreamt I was…” you sighed, exhaling all your anxiety and melting back into him, your cheek resting on his chest. “Dreamt I was dying…clickers feasting on me, and you were just…watching. You were just standing there, no emotion, no fear, no…grief in your eyes. Like it meant nothing—like I meant nothing.”
“Look at me,” he tilted your chin up, forcing your eyes to his gravely serious ones. “If anything were to ever happen to you…I promise you, it would shatter me. Would be the end for me, too.”
“Why can’t you just let me love you?” You asked, your voice breaking with emotion as you reached to hold his face, tracing your thumb over lines and freckles that you’d memorized by heart. “It’s all I want…just to love you.”
“Love me,” he rasped back, his eyes dropping to your lips. “Love me.”
You moaned softly, so hushed that Joel had to question whether or not he actually heard it, but your hands tugging him by the collar of his jacket to roll on top of you shooed all doubt in his mind. He let out a soft moan of his own as he slotted his thigh between yours, his hand stroking your hair out of your face as he laid half on top of you, eyes worshipping you in the pale blue of the midnight moon shining through the window.
“We can’t…not with Ellie in the next room,” he warned as he hovered his lips over yours, your lips chasing his. “Don’t let me get carried away with you.”
“Just kiss me,” you breathed out as you pulled him to your lips, a gasped moan spilling from his lips into yours as he gripped your hip so tight it might leave a few bruise marks. You swiped your tongue over his lips and he growled, rolling his hips into yours. You whimpered into his mouth, your fingers tangled in his slowly greying locks, your teeth biting down on his bottom lip.
“God,” he groaned, his hand slipping lower to squeeze your ass. “I missed you so much, my pretty girl…missed you so much.”
“I want you,” you begged breathlessly, grinding yourself against his thigh in hopes of finding some relief. Joel shook his head as his lips found your neck. “Please,” you begged again even more desperately. “I can be quiet.”
“We both know that ain’t true,” he smirked against your skin, seemingly lost in memories of the past when the two of you were free to go at it like wild animals. “But…you can get yourself off on my thigh. Long as you save all those pretty sounds just for me.”
“Fuck,” you moaned into his ear, continuing to roll your hips against his tree-trunk of a thigh. The seam of your jeans caught deliciously against your hyper-sensitive clit, your body buzzing from having the man you lived back in your arms after so long. “Gonna cum,” you warned, earning a squeeze of his hands on your ass and his teeth biting at your neck. “Joel…fuck…I’m…oh,” you spoke through pants until you broke, your hips stuttering against his thigh as your orgasm hit you hard enough to hurt, the violent aftershocks of your euphoria almost too blissful to take.
“There you go,” he praised, kissing your pulse and running his hand up and down the curve of your body. Completely spent, you felt yourself falling back to sleep underneath him, Joel’s warmth and weight your new favorite blanket.
Joel kissed your temple before moving to get up, needing to go back downstairs in order to watch the front door for any intruders. Feeling his warmth leaving you, you tried to reach out and grab him but quickly gave up, your exhaustion triumphing over your desire. He couldn’t help but smile as he looked down at you, sleeping peacefully with a glow still on your cheeks from your orgasm. You looked so beautiful and delicate, this world failing to get to you, failing to turn you cold and worn down like everybody else. Though he knew this was dangerous—you and him tiptoeing over the line he drew between you—he couldn’t bear to keep himself from you anymore, not now that he got the chance to hold you again.
Leaning down to press one last kiss to your cheek, he pulled your blanket over your body.
“Sleep well, honey,” he whispered, tucking your hair behind your ear as he debated speaking the words he’d long been withholding from you. But here, with you fast asleep, he couldn’t stop himself from confessing the truth. “I love you more than anything in the world. I’m sorry I never showed it.”
As Joel grabbed his gun and turned to leave, he heard your voice, soft and husky with sleep.
“I love you, too.”

We meet again, darling pt.19 (detective Abby Anderson x criminal reader x detective Ellie Williams)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Synopsis: Abby Anderson is a skilled detective that's never let a criminal escape her grasp, until you. You've infiltrated every part of her life and she still can't get you. As she grows more and more intrigued by you she finds herself descending further into darkness until there's no way back. She takes your hand and follows you as if your presence is the only thing giving her life knowing that you are the most dangerous thing for her. Her life will never be hers again and she will stop at nothing to keep following you down your path of corruption.
7.32 PM
"I'd love to." You take a seat in the chair he's gesturing to and return his stony glare. "Tell me sweetheart. Who'd you have to fuck to get yourself here?"
You laugh at his comment more than you should and it leaves him confused.
"Well I could give you the list but it wouldn't do much, I'm here because I'm good at this. That's why you've never been able to beat me." His face turns to a scowl as he takes a drag of his cigar. He chuckles a little and then goes silent once again.
"You're arrogant. Didn't your parents teach you manners?"
"Nope."
"You must've been a very dislikeable little girl then. Nothing's changed I see."
"You seem to have a fascination with my childhood. Is there a question on your mind? or is that just your thing?" His head snaps up as he puts the cigar down.
"How dare you accuse me of such a thing." His voice is low and gravelly as he says it and you can't hide your amusement at his frustration. "I am fascinated though as to what happened in your childhood to make you turn out this way. Were you an orphan?"
"Nope. One brother, my best friend, and two parents that were in a loving marriage and loved us both very much. Perfect, picturesque family. But what way have I turned out? Different from you? Because that would be a mighty high horse for you to be sitting on if that's what you're saying."
"I've heard stories about the things you've done, always vague and never any details about who was committing the heinous acts, but I heard about the acts."
"Yeah? Tell me the worst story you've heard."
"Tell me the worst thing you've done."
"You first." He stays still for a moment until he picks up his cigar again and begins to speak.
"What?"
"Hello to you too, jesus." Ellie scoffed at Abby's rude greeting as she answered the phone. "I don't know what to pack because I don't know if we're going somewhere hot or cold."
"You really think there won't be a whole new wardrobe waiting for us when we get there?"
"True... She'll probably have bought us matching wardrobes."
"Ha yeah I swear we're like dolls to her."
"I've never had someone take so much pleasure in dressing me up, usually the joy happens when the clothes come off." Abby can practically see the smirk on Ellie's face just as Ellie can see the eyeroll coming from Abby.
"Was that all?"
"No actually, I was wondering if you wanted me to grab food from Michael's and then come to yours, can wait for her together."
"Oh right yeah, sounds good, thanks."
"The usual?"
"Yeah please."
"Okay, cool." Ellie hangs up before Abby can even say bye.
"Rude." She mutters to herself but internally she finds Ellie's bluntness charming, she'd always laugh to herself when she'd observe a conversation between Ellie and someone at work that ended in Ellie walking away obliviously while the other person stormed off cursing her rudeness under their breath. Abby returns to packing while thinking about what you're doing right now.
"You first."
"Fine. I heard of you killing a man's wife when he failed to repay his debts to you."
"That's the worst you heard? God people must think I'm pathetic."
He grimaces at your words. "Your turn."
"I set fire to a home where a family, two parents and two kids, were sleeping peacefully inside, I left the daughter to burn and I took the son with me, I killed him separately after I made him live through the pain of losing his perfect family and his perfect life, he became a monster just like me and then I slaughtered him like one too."
"Why?"
"Because I felt like it. Because I needed to. Why does it matter? Doesn't change what I did, see this is what limits people, always trying to find a justification for someone's actions. Once you accept that your actions can't and shouldn't be justified, you're free."
"Is that what you are? Free?"
"Exactly."
8.07 PM
Abby turns her attention from the TV as a knock sounds on her door, she opens it to see Ellie standing outside with takeout and her comically small suitcase.
"Is that seriously all your bringing?"
"Leave me alone this is a regular sized suitcase." Abby stands aside to let her come in.
"Yeah for a two week holiday. Hate to break it to you but this is not that."
"Oh whatever. Can't believe I got you food."
"From Michael's as well? You're too cute."
"Shut up. Figured we should have it at least once more before we leave."
"Do you remember how much we used to go there when we were officers, makes me feel old thinking about it."
"That's because you are old."
"You're two years younger than me."
"Still..." They had both sat on the sofa and were ripping open the bag of food when Ellie paused. "Has she ever told you how old she is?"
Abby goes to reply back acerbically and then she realises you hadn't, you hadn't asked how old Abby was either though, she assumed you knew anyway but she realised she didn't know how old you are, she had always guessed you'd be a similar age to her because of the time it would take you to build your business to the level it is now but she didn't actually know. "Er no she hasn't. I'm ashamed to say I've never asked."
"Has there ever been time for small talk like that?" Ellie looks at Abby knowingly as they both chuckle.
"No I guess not."
"I wonder what it will be like, you know being with her just us 3 on our own, no business."
"I think there's a high likelihood of us driving her up the wall and ending up buried somewhere."
"Yeah that's a fair guess." They both waste no time in stuffing their faces with the huge burgers Ellie had bought as Abby presses play on the Family guy episode she was watching.
8.45 PM
You checked your watch to see that, provided everything went to plan, your men would be done seizing all of the Met's shipments, you wanted to wait until you knew everything had gone smoothly for them before you killed him and judging by the fact none of his guys had burst through the door to alert him of your plan you assumed everything went as it should have.
"Got somewhere to be sweetheart?" Your roll your eyes at the pet name and stand.
"Yes actually." You pull your gun from its holster and at the same time two huge men burst into the room and lunge at you. You manage to shoot one and he drops to the ground but the other made it to you before you could stop him. He lands a punch so forceful you hear your cheekbone crack. It disorients you so much you don't notice him grabbing you at first and when you do realise its too late as he has you held tightly to him with an arm around your waist trapping you hands by your sides and the other arm round your neck choking you slightly.
"Richter warned me you'd be paying me a visit, I was shocked to be contacted by him, you must've really pissed him off for him to side with me."
"I wouldn't be hasty to take his side, unless you want to end up like him."
"Yeah? And how has he ended up?"
"Dead." You smile through the throbbing in your cheek as he moves his face closer to yours.
"I'm giving you a chance here, I'll let you walk off unharmed if you beg for your life... and transfer everything you're worth over to me. You can run away to go hide in a hole somewhere and be thankful everyday for the rest of your life for my mercy." You chuckle at the man before you as you realise he is so similar to Richter, never misses an opportunity to assert his dominance over a woman and a complete pussy that can't do a job properly. He didn't even give you a chance to fear for your life before he offered you a chance to live, he doesn't understand the game the way you do, doesn't enjoy it like you, you like to play with your victims before you end them and he's making this no fun at all. The gutlessness of it all disgusts you, no one is ever willing to do what needs to be done and that's why you rose to the top so quick, that's why you'd rather die than beg this pathetic man for your life, you'll do what has to be done to die the way you lived.
"I'm not begging for shit." You spit in his face and he falls back yelling at your grotesque action. He wipes his face and storms back over to you so there is barely any space between your faces, his breath smells of cigars and bourbon, a smell you had grown familiar with after all these years that still never failed to make your nose scrunch up. A menacing smile grows on his face as he utters the words:
"I am going to enjoy killing you so much. Everything you have is mine now, sweetheart."
As he finishes his sentence he nods at the man holding you, you hear a shuffle behind you as his grip around your neck disappears for a moment, you keep eye contact with the victorious looking man in front of you until you feel a cold, solid object being slammed into your temple. The ringing in your ears starts immediately as does the spinning in your vision, your legs shake and everything around you turns sideways and rushes upwards. You don't realise you're falling to the floor until you hit it, the last thing you see before your vision goes black is the huge man standing over you clutching a brick spattered with blood in his hand.
psa: sorry this chapter is a little shorter but pt.20 will make up for it (i hope), finale next! Can't believe I've actually made it this close to finishing the story, i have never stuck with anything creative enough to finish it so this is crazy to me

the decay of your body. (teaser)
Tumblr media
upcoming ellie x fem!reader fic.
summary- your peaceful days have come to an end when your vulnerable, oblivious self lands you in the territory of a bloodthirsty deadite. a pitiful human such as yourself does not stand a chance, though this wicked woman has other plans for you.
warnings- sexual themes, explicit mentions of death, blood, gore, swearing.
note- this will be my first writing posted on here. the release will be indefinite, so i apologize in advance. i would like to make this a series, but if not then i may work on other things. i would also like to comment on how i perceive ellie. i plan on writing her as canon as possible, meaning she will continue being an absolute vile creature with a limited capacity to fully understand the human psyche. if all goes well and i make this a series, i will consider adapting ellie to human life, but i still prefer her as she is meant to be.
it was drooling, that same black sludge mixed with saliva and blood just dripping from it’s maw and collecting onto the floor. panting through it’s wide grin, almost peering over your shoulder. you could hear something behind you, something breathing. your body tensed up, aware of a presence so dangerously close to your frame. that muscle in your chest began to beat faster and that thing behind you twitched at the sudden change in your scent.
yes, it could smell it. that intoxicating, absolutely arousing scent of a living, fearful human. the thick streams of blood flooding your mortal body, making your flesh pulse and grow hotter. you hesitated looking back. there was something behind you, but you couldn’t bring yourself to face it. not when it was impatiently waiting for you to finally acknowledge it.
fuck it. you slowly turned your head and your body slowly shifted. damn those wobbly legs, your body nearly collapsed before you could get a good close up of whatever was losing it’s corrupted mind over your presence.
and that thing that was drooling the rancid black sludge over you, actually a decomposing statue of nearly six feet, tangled red locs and a filthy grin. this woman with the awful posture, blue and purple lines meandering on pale skin. she eyed her prey, fingers twitching, and her throat producing the guttural clicking sounds from earlier. she was eager to finally get your attention. her rotten body practically buzzing, vibrating, just waiting to act upon her urges. that delicious, petrified look on your face somehow managed to make that disgusting grin even wider. those malicious instincts were kicking in, the desire to ensure fear, hack and slash her way through flesh and take pride in her successful hunt. your throat went dry, body shuddering as you backed against the countertop. as you moved the woman followed suit, matching your movements with a jerk of her crooked body. you couldn't speak, nor could you produce any noises other than your heavy breathing. the woman wasn't too close now. there was still a slim chance you could slip away, or perhaps grab that shard of glass on the tile.
your eyes darted to the piece of glass, just moments away from grabbing it and burrowing the shard in her neck. so close, just a little more and your fingers would be right on it.
just a little more and you can get the hell out.
almost. almost there. you can do it.
so close. so-
“hello there, little one”

How would the RO's react if mc gives them subtle hints that they are into them? But mc doesn't straightforward say it or directly say it? :3
👀👀👀 you shall receive crumbs. lets say mc brushes their hand against the ROs or treats them a bit different/special than others
Chulainn: ??? what was that. they would be kind of very confused on why you act the way you do since they know you like no one else does and that was very weird behavior - even for you. chulainn would be in denial first, the idea that you actually LIKE them?? hilarious, what a funny but far-fetched idea. because you wouldn't right...? they pay extra attention on how you behave with others and with them, furrowing their eyebrows ever so slightly until it clicks. huh. so you like them. ?????? chulainn would not know how to react, to be honest. they wouldn't ask abot it either, but everytime you hint at it, they would be really caught off-guard BUT kind of also enjoy it. it would go from "you like me??" to "so, you like me" and make them stand just a lil bit straighter, because that is the biggest compliment one can give them
Lys: lys our oblivious queen/king 🙏they would at first think you grew ill or something, since your behavior deviated from how you normally acted. but then it continued on and you didnt change at all, so maybe that was just the way you behaved now? it would be impolite to ask you about it, so they would just accept it. you keep brushing your hands against theirs? lys gives you a weird look, but doesnt question it. and you act nicer to them than others? okay, perhaps you finally learned some manners, at least around lys; that's nice! if you plan to woo lys, you will have to be a bit more obvious about it, as they have no experience in this ;;;
Holly: lets be honest, she would probably not even notice you acting differently. you could give the most OBVIOUS subtle hint ever, she would just be like "okay!!" and not think about it any further. like, the idea of a relationship like that is just something she kind of forgot existed? or never really thought about. so when mc comes around and is already being very subtle about it, holly will just not care. sure, she is happy you're nicer to her, but looking deeper into your actions? nope. her and lys are cut from the same cloth in that regard. you will have to be obvious about it, if you want her to know that you like her
Elli: poor elli. he's our overthinking king. the second you treat them a bit different, he will immediately notice it and think about it the entire day. you looked at him longer than usual, didn't you? he wasn't just imagining it, right??? and when you touched him ever so slightly, that couldn't have been a conicidence, right RIGHT??? you would make a mess out of him, like, he would be thinking about it for hours while trying to act as if he wasn't noticing anything but he was; very much so. elli would probably become a lot more nervous around you, while trying to hide it behind a facade of nonchalance, however he would slip out of it a lot more than he would like to admit
Irydion: oh, she wouldnt notice it at first, similar to holly. okay, she would pick up on your behavior being different, but would not connect it with the idea that you like her. actually, she would find it pretty suspicious and keep a careful eye on you, because like? what is going on, mc?? is someone perhaps threateninig you and this is a cry for help?! blink twice if you need help. and what does this end up with? two idiots acting like fools around each other because nobody SAYS ANYTHING. please, just tell irydion directly or she will think the whole time you are in danger and that you cant talk about it
Junius: he would find it not only flattering, but also adorable. yeah, junius picks up your hints immediately. and he would think "yup, that is only natural!" and then be a little shit about it and act as if he doesnt know, just to put you into situations that he can tease you about. he keeps up that act pretty long too, he is surprised if you didnt notice it any sooner, to be honest! however should he have had enough fun with you, he would eventually tell you, that there is no need to be subtle around him and if you want him to be yours, to just say so

LIGHTNING BUGS
Something Joel found out quickly about Ellie was that finding a way to actually get her to lie down and rest was not easy.
Sure, sometimes there were days where their traveling had been long and exhausting, and she was too tired to stay up. She would crash onto her sleeping bag the moment it was out and would curl up in a small ball the way she always did, mumbling a soft, “goodnight, old man,” if she was awake enough. If they were lucky, she would start softly snoring almost immediately.
Tonight was not one of those nights.
“Come on, Ellie,” Joel sighed from where he was sitting beside their bags. She’d dropped her backpack and had immediately gone to pick at the rocks by the trees to find hidden insects. “It’s late. We need to sleep if we’re goin’ to be walkin’ all day tomorrow.”
“Keep telling me what to do and I’ll put a centipede in your bed,” she called back, waving the rock in her hand around threateningly. He was not intimidated.
“Ellie.”
She groaned but dropped the rock, trudging over to him, a purposefully sulky look on her face, as if the more pathetic she looked the more likely he was to let her play with the spiders before bed. He was afraid she was getting close to figuring out sad eyes worked on him.
He began to lie his sleeping bag down, and she copied him, huffing and sighing the entire time. He ignored her, because he knew those kinds of tricks well.
“I’m not even tired, you know,” she grumbled after it became clear that he wasn’t going to ask her what was wrong. “I could stay up for a lot longer.”
And then be tired the entire day tomorrow, he very generously did not add. Instead, he said, “I know. But I’m tired, you little shit, and I’d prefer not to worry about you gettin’ a spider bite in the middle of the night while I’m tryin’ to sleep.” Spider bites were not what he was worried about, but she didn’t have to know that. Let her keep her obliviousness to the world’s true dangers for a little while longer.
“Of course,” she said, rolling her eyes and flopping down onto her sleeping bag. “You’re old and you need your old person sleep. How could I forget?”
“These jokes about my age just keep gettin’ funnier and funnier, you know.” She stuck her tongue out at him and grinned, and he stifled own smile at how easy it had been to get her to stop pouting.
He began to shuffle through his bag to find food, ignoring how dark it was. The sun had already begun to set, and it wouldn’t be long until it was pitch black, but they hadn’t eaten yet and Joel didn’t want Ellie to go to bed hungry. His brows furrowed as his hands continued to dig through his pack yet found nothing, and he wondered with a small stab of panic if, somehow, they’d run out of food and he hadn’t noticed.
Behind him, Ellie sprung up suddenly, and he whirled around as she cried out, “Joel!” He was on his feet immediately, gun in hand, eyes scouting for the danger.
“What’s wrong? What is it?” He asked, taking a step in front of her, gun lifted and ready to shoot.
“I-I don’t know,” she stuttered out. “I saw, like, a spark. Like someone was trying to set something on fire, or whatever. I don’t see it anymore, though…”
Frowning, Joel kept the gun in position, eyes searching the stretching shadows of the forest, eyes straining to see behind the trees. He couldn’t see anything, and just as he was about to call a possible false alarm, Ellie jumped again.
“Right there! It happened again!” She exclaimed, reaching out to grab his arm, but he relaxed, because he had seen it this time, too. He couldn’t help but chuckle a little, though, and she shot him a look. “What?”
“Ain’t nothin’ to worry ‘bout,” he reassured her, putting his gun down. “No danger.”
“But I saw it,” she protested. “I did.”
“I believe you—I saw it too. It’s just lightnin’ bugs, though. See?” He nodded in the direction of a cluster of bushes where a couple more tiny “sparks” flashed. “Nothin’ bad, just a couple of flashy bugs.”
“Flashy bugs?” She looked skeptical, clearly unsure if he was messing with her or not.
“Mhm.” He sat down again, wanting to make it sure and clear that there wasn’t anything to be afraid of. “Just some weird bugs that have some sorta glowin’ things under their wings that light up.”
“Whoa,” she breathed, all former worry forgotten. “That’s so cool. Do you think I could catch one?”
He frowned. “Well…it’s entirely possible. People Before used to catch ‘em and stuff, but you still need to sl—”
Before Joel could even think to finish his sentence, Ellie was darting towards the bushes, grinning madly, and he sighed. He’d forgotten how exhausting kids were, but he didn’t try to call her back. There was no stopping her now, unfortunately.
It had gotten significantly more dark, so the flashes were easier to see, and after a couple of first failed attempts and an accidental murder when Ellie clapped her hands together instead of cupping them together to catch a flying one (R.I.P., lighting bug. Ellie had been very guilty afterwards), she finally managed to scoop one off of the grass. Clasping it in her hands gently, making sure there was space in between the two hands since she’d learned her lesson after the first bug murder, she ran back over to him, grin wider than he’d ever seen it.
“Look!” She cried, unclasping her hands and proudly presenting the bright bug to him, “I caught one!” Sure enough, there was a little lighting bug scurrying across her palm, looking disoriented at the fact it was no longer peacefully sitting on a piece of grass like it had been moments before.
This time, Joel couldn’t help the smile that twitched at the corners of his mouth. “You did,” he acknowledged. “Nice job, kid. Now how ‘bout—”
“Hold it!” She demanded, thrusting her hands out, and it was a miracle the bug was still on there. When he gave her an I’m not doing that look, she merely gave him a yes you fucking are look back. Heaving a sigh, he held out his hand and she beamed, gently placing the little bug into his palm. It was almost comical, how small the bug was compared to his hand, but he let it stay on for Ellie’s sake as she watched it happily, as if she’d handed him a trophy rather than an insect that would probably be dead in less than a week, if she didn’t accidentally crush it herself.
“I’m naming that one Olivia,” she declared. “Keep her safe, Joel.” Before he could even process her words, she was darting off again, searching the grass and sky for more lighting bugs to capture.
He glanced down exasperatedly at Olivia, still wandering confusedly across his skin. “We’re really in for it now, aren’t we?” He sighed, then gently closed his hand, careful to make sure he didn’t squish the bug, since Ellie would be devastated if he did.
The girl spent the next thirty minutes collecting lighting bugs, as the sun set and the sky above them became dark, casting a shadow down on earth and making it almost impossible to see. Every once and a while he couldn’t make her out in the darkness and he panicked, but there was no need, because every time he worried he was quickly reassured by Ellie charging towards him, new victim in hand. By the end of the night, he had at least twenty in his hands, acting as her bug collecting jar as she ran off to find more.
They all had names, of course. Olivia, Andy, Stefan, Ellie Junior, Joel Junior, Ozzie, Little Fuck, Christopher, Will Livingston 2.0—all of them got the honor of having names, although who was who, Joel had no idea (what he did know was that Christopher had definitely escaped the moment Ellie had placed him in his hands. Sorry, Ellie. Christopher belonged to the night now).
It wasn’t until Ellie caught five at once and tried to put them all into his already-crowded hands (yes, both hands now, because one had not been enough to contain Christopher) that he finally put a halt to the mass lightning bug imprisonment.
“But Joel,” she whined when he opened his hands and let them all free. Some shot off immediately, while others stayed, clearly already used to their new life in captivity. He was pretty sure one of the four left meandering around was Olivia. “There are so many of them to catch!”
“Sorry to burst your bubble, but you can’t catch all of ‘em, kid,” he told her. She frowned and looked down at the bugs in her hands. “Plus, we gotta get movin’ early tomorrow. You need rest, and I’m sure those poor bugs do, too.”
Ellie sighed reluctantly, and that’s how he knew she was getting tired, the way she didn’t put up more of a fight. “I guess you’re right. Bye, Johnny, Johnny Junior, Johnny the Third, Johnny the Forth and Johnny the Fifth.” The bugs gradually flew off and she caught his baffled look. “What? You didn’t give me enough time to name them all!”
“Right.” He rolled his eyes to hide his amused smile. “Now sit down and try to go to sleep, you little shit.”
“So mean to me,” she grumbled, the uplifted corner of her mouth showing she wasn’t actually upset as she clambered into her sleeping bag, curling up like she always did.
Joel slid into his own, staring up at the treetops and the stars above him, waiting for the inevitable question. Sure enough—
“Joel?”
“Mhm?”
“They’re called fireflies too, right?”
“Yeah, I s’pose some people call ‘em fireflies.”
“Hm.” There was only a moment of peace before she spoke up again. “I think I like these fireflies better than the people ones.”
He laughed at that. “Yeah. Me too, kid. Me too.”

——–
Darling, I'd wait for you Even if you didn't ask me to
His eyes locked onto you as he watched you walk around, unable to tear his gaze away. A soft smile on his face as he saw you interact with the other citizens in Jackson. "What's up with you, old man?" Tommy grinned, earning a grunt from his older brother. Tommy turned to Ellie who also had a smirk on her face, knowing exactly what was going on. "Shut up." he grumbled, rolling his eyes at the pair of them. "Why don't you just tell them!" Ellie huffed, Joel rolled his eyes and turned to face them. "Because you know why. I'm no good for them." he huffed, placing his glass on the table and walking out.
"Has he always been this oblivious?"
----
Tie a lasso 'round the Moon And bring it on down to you
"That's Orion!" you smiled, pointing to the stars on your left that formed the constellation. You had slept over at their house, Joel claiming it would be too dangerous for you to walk home at this time. He had been sat out on the doorstep, something occupying his mind so you decided to come and keep him company. "You know a lot about the stars." he commented, his face softening as he saw you turn to him, a massive grin plastered on yours. "My sibling taught me a bunch about them! Of course until..." your voice trailed off, going quiet as you remembered them. "I know how you feel." he comforted, deciding it was right for you to know.
"I uh...I lost my daughter." he informed, voice quivering as he saw flashbacks and her screams replaying in his head. "I'm so sorry, Joel." you frowned, not pestering for the full story, and sat back down next to him, squeezing his hand as you intertwined yours with his. "It's okay, sweets. Feels nice to...talk about it." he assured, rubbing his thumb up and down your hand comfortingly. "Sarah...she would've loved you." he spoke up, a fond smile on his face as you turned to him. "Really?" you asked, butterflies swarming as you took it as the highest compliment you could get from him, aware of how rarely he spoke about her.
"I'm sure of it."
----
I'd bottle the feeling you give me And shelve that stuff for years to come
The town crowded as the horse came trotting through the gates, Ellie half asleep as Joel sat behind her. Tommy had to squeeze through, getting people to move as he helped the off the horse. Ellie got down first, Maria immediately embracing her as Tommy checked Joel. "Get Ellie back in, I'll be okay." he assured, shrugging Tommy off as he looked at the wound that was wrapped on his stomach. "I gotta go find-" he spoke, Ellie cutting him off. "It's okay, go. Just be safe." she pleaded, giving him one last hug before heading towards the houses with Tommy and Maria.
Joel looked around, trying to find the familiar face but struggled. "Excuse me!" a voice called, making their way through the crowd and going as quick as they could. "Sweets." Joel breathed out as he saw you, meeting you halfway and pulling you into a hug. He winced slightly as you hugged him too tightly, nudging his wound a bit. You pulled away in concern, lifting up his shirt slightly despite his protests. "Joel..." you gasped, seeing the mostly bloodied bandage. You grabbed his hand, pulling him along to your house.
"Let's sort you out."
----
'Cause, baby, when your arms are around me I'd swear that I'm holding the Sun
"Like this?" you asked, holding the gun up with both your hands as you pointed it at the target. You weren't far off, but if you did that towards a Clicker, there was about a 50/50 chance of you surviving. "Let me help, sweets." he chuckled, coming up behind you. You took a deep breath, trying to hide the blush that was coming up on your face and the heat rising to your cheeks.
"Okay, tighten your grip on it a bit more." he instructed, his hands on top of yours as he curled your fingers down. A fuzzy feeling took over your body, slightly zoning out everything Joel was saying. He gently pushed your finger, setting the trigger off. The sound of the bottle falling brought you back."Well done, darlin'" he complimented, his arms still wrapped around you as he swayed side to side.
Thankfully, you were faced the other way, unable to see the redness in his cheeks.
----
I'd give you the Sun if you asked me You could have all of the time
The only noise filling the area was the crackle of the fire. You were on the way back from a supply run, Ellie asleep in her sleeping bag in yours and Joels reach just in case something happened. "Joel?" you called, getting his attention. "Say this whole thing came to an end at some point, what would you do?" you asked, curious to know what his plans were if he even had any.
He was quiet for a few minutes, thinking to himself. He hadn't considered any of this - aware of it being most likely unachievable. "I'd want a modest life - much quieter than the life we have now. I'd like an old farmhouse. Some land - a ranch. I'll raise sheep. They're quiet and do what they're told unlike some people." he slightly joked, looking at Ellie for the last part and gaining a laugh from you. He saw you shiver slightly, taking his jacket off and wrapping it around your shoulders while holding you close to his side.
You could have the stars and the trees When dividing up the Universe
"What about us?" you hesitated, not looking at him. Gaze fixated on Ellie's sleeping figure, too scared to see his reaction. "What about us, doll?" he asked, wanting to make sure he wasn't reading this interaction incorrectly. "What would happen to us?" you questioned softly. He lifted your head up gently, a hand under your chin as he met your eyes. "Sweets, tell me I'm not reading this wrong." he whispered, his mouth only a few centimetres away from yours. "You're not." you whispered, leaning closer, your breath hitting his face.
Joel leaned in, connecting his lips with yours and he knew right there, he'd do absolutely anything for you, no matter what.
You could have mine You could have mine

CH 4- A New Playing Field
Prev
The group sat at an oval table in a dark room with empty plates in front of them. Renderings for the park flashed in and out of existence as they were projected on the walls, serving as the main source of light for the room.
Sitting on Ian’s shoulder, Adelaide could feel how tense he was. He’d been tense for most of the trip so far, but she could specifically feel it build during the walk to lunch. If he didn’t say something soon, he was going to explode, and she didn’t want to be here when it happened.
While Hammond and Gennaro talked logistics, Adelaide watched a waiter set a plate full of food in front of Ellie, who regarded it with poorly disguised disgust. Fish and vegetables from the look of it? Adelaide’s stomach growled. Now that her proximity to dinosaurs lessened and her proximity to food increased, her appetite was back. She stared at the fish for an unreasonable amount of time, then looked up and caught Ellie’s eye.
“You want some?” Ellie mouthed, pointing to her plate. Adelaide grinned shyly and nodded.
Despite her wariness of Ellie, Adelaide would not let food go to waste. She went to climb down Ian’s shoulder, wishing for her hook that was buried in her bag in Ian’s pocket, but his voice stopped her. “Gee, the lack of humility before nature that’s being displayed here, uh, staggers me.” He was being dramatic, as per usual, but his voice was dangerously calm. Dangerously quiet.
Adelaide took that as her cue and immediately started her descent down his arm while Gennaro said, “Thank you Dr. Malcolm, but I think things are a little bit different than both you and I have feared.”
Ian felt Adelaide’s movement and scooped her up. “Yeah, I know. They’re uh, a lost worse.” He distractedly set her down on the table as he spoke. He wasn’t sure what she was doing, but he didn’t care enough and trusted her to make her own decisions.
Adelaide had to regain her bearings down on the table. She’d been on Ian’s shoulder for most of her time in the park, so being so far below eye level for everyone made her uneasy. If she were Bean sized, the plates would be the size of cars, drinking glasses the size of a refrigerator. Even the silverware was longer than she was tall. It was a new playing field.
Adelaide eyed the tines of a fork as she hesitantly crossed the table. Those could easily skewer her and turn her into a Della-kabob. She faltered, suddenly unsure why she was halfway across the table, in the open and far out of Ian’s reach.
What was she doing? Adelaide could have just waited for Ian to get food. But Ellie’s spur of the moment offer excited her, and she impulsively gave in to that excitement. Adelaide blamed Ellie’s smile.
Well, there was no turning back now.
She knew the Beans were staring, but they were too involved in the probably important conversation to stop and say something to her. She ignored them.
Adelaide reached Ellie’s plate as the giants argued. She would never get over how much food humans consumed on a daily basis, and how much extra they always had on hand, and a lot of the time they threw those leftovers away! Ian made sure she was fed, but growing up not knowing when the next meal was, she never took food like this for granted. And if she did have leftovers, all of it was eaten eventually. None of it was ever thrown away. Even now, when she no longer had to borrow, she couldn’t shake the habit, and probably never would. Especially when protein was involved. It was for the best, anyway.
Adelaide looked up at Ellie for confirmation.
Ellie on the other hand was completely oblivious to Adelaide’s train of thought, and she watched as Adelaide approached. The shocked look on Adelaide’s face at the sheer amount of food made Ellie smile. In that way, Adelaide was almost cute. There was something about the innocence, the naivety with which she regarded the food, but Ellie figured Adelaide would explode if she said that out loud. She nodded when Adelaide looked up at her with nervous, questioning eyes. “It’s all yours,” she whispered.
Adelaide blushed and her eyes widened. She sat on the larger plate and used the lip of the smaller plate as a table. She dug in, using her knife to cut off small pieces of fish. It was warm and flavorful, and Adelaide couldn’t help but let out a small moan. She continued to shovel food into her mouth, but she kept an ear out for the conversation and an eye out for Ellie. Adelaide doubted anything would happen, but she couldn’t bring herself to fully trust anyone enough to let her guard down just yet.
She felt rude eating when nobody else was, but part of her was grateful. Adelaide always felt nervous around Beans while they ate, even Ian. The way they cut and stabbed food and bit off Adelaide-sized chunks at such a blinding speed - it could easily be her instead if they weren’t careful. The amplified chewing sounds, the way she could see the lump of food travel down their throats - it was all too much. So, Adelaide was content to eat by herself.
Ian was in the middle of talking about responsibility, or the lack thereof in the park, when he suddenly slammed his fist on the table. “You stood on the shoulders of geniuses, uh, to accomplish something as fast as you could, and before you even knew what you had, you've patented it, and packaged it, and slapped it on a plastic lunch box, and,” BANG “now, you're selling it,” BANG “you wanna sell it, well-”
With each bang, Adelaide felt the table, and all the dishes on it, shake. The second tremor was just big enough to bounce her into the air, but when she landed, she hit the plate at an odd angle and fell backward onto the table. Her butt would probably be bruised in the morning. The noise hurt her ears, but by the time she thought to cover them, he had already stopped. That being said, the pain in both her butt and her ears was nothing compared to the embarrassment of how easily she was shaken around, how easy it was for her to get hurt.
Oh, Ian was mad .
He came back to reality only for a moment, and his face softened when he spotted Adelaide sprawled out on the table. “I’m sorry,” he said to everyone, but especially Adelaide, holding his hands out placatingly and taking a deep breath before returning his attention to Hammond. He really did mean it - he didn’t mean to hurt or scare Adelaide, and his outburst as a whole was a little immature - but he was frustrated at the seeming lack of forethought Hammond put into the park, and when reasonable concerns were raised, they were shot down.
Adelaide reprimanded herself for the fear that crept up on her. This was Ian and he would never hurt her, but the way he seemed to forget she was there, even momentarily, shook her. If his fist hit her with that force, she’d have been dead. If not, seriously injured.
Ellie reached out halfway to Adelaide, concerned, before remembering her aversion to, well, giants. She sat there with her hands half outstretched, waiting to see if Adelaide wanted or needed help. She seemed fine, though. Just rattled.
Forgetting the food, Adelaide sat up and turned her full attention toward their argument. If things got too heated, she wanted out of there.
“Condors. Condors are on the verge of extinction,” Hammond said. Ian tried to interrupt, but Hammond continued. “No, no! If I was to create a flock of condors on this island, you wouldn't have anything to say. I simply don't understand this kind of Luddite attitude, especially from a scientist! I mean, how can we stand in the light of discovery and not act?”
“Oh, what's so great about discovery? It's a violent, penetrative act that scars what it explores. What you call discovery, I call the rape of the natural world,” Ian said.
She considered Hammond’s perspective. In her mind, scientists were evil and bad. All they wanted to do was dissect and hurt and kill so that they could...learn? Adelaide never thought about why they did what they did. All she knew was that it was bad. Discovery was bad. And Ian clearly agreed with her. Discovery to her meant discovery of borrowers. It meant capture and torture.
But here these people were, supposedly all scientists, except for Gennaro. Discovery to them meant something completely different. It was good and helpful, and it advanced the world forward. Adelaide supposed that she only considered the word in relation to her and her species, since that was all that mattered for most of her life. Apparently, 'discovery' had much broader use in the larger scheme of things. This was a recurring theme among a number of subjects now that Adelaide spent more time in the human world.
Still, Ian’s description of ‘discovery’ was dramatic, even for him, but Adelaide didn’t say anything.
Instead, it was Ellie who intervened. Adelaide leaned back on her hands and tilted her head backward to listen, and she didn’t even have to lean that far. With how close Ellie was, she sat directly behind, but also directly above Adelaide. Ellie argued that it was impossible to know everything about an extinct ecosystem and how everything would react, and when Hammond pleaded with Alan, he was faced with a similar argument.
Hammond turned to Adelaide, which took her by surprise. “Adelaide,” he said gently. “What do you think?”
Adelaide doubted that Hammond really cared about her opinion, but since he had nobody else to turn to, she was the only option.
Adelaide had to think through her answer carefully. She agreed with everyone else for the most part, despite her lack of knowledge on the subject. She wasn’t completely out of arms reach for Hammond, though. If he didn’t like her answer, he could lash out. He could hold her hostage or something. He didn’t seem like the type and Adelaide was semi-confident she could spring out of his reach in time, but ultimately, she just didn’t want to piss him off, giant or not.
“Um, the uncertainty of it all has me, uh, a bit nervous,” she said. “I’m as excited about these, um...dinosaurs,” she had to search for the word, “as much as the next guy, and I think the concept is- is great, but there are just too many variable factors...I think,” she said. It wasn’t an eloquent speech by any means, but she was happy she got some words out.
It turned out that it didn’t matter what she said. Hammond was looking for backup, and at the first sign of negativity, he had already tuned her out. Ian gave Adelaide an imperceptibly small smile and felt his heart soar, proud of her for standing up to a giant.
“I don't believe it! I don't believe it!” Hammond said to the group. “You're meant to come down here and defend me against these characters, and the only one I've got on my side is the blood-sucking lawyer!” Just then, a waiter entered and whispered something to him.
“Well,” Hammond changed the subject as he stood up. “They’re here.”
Adelaide stumbled back at the sudden move, not entirely convinced he wasn’t going to grab her, but she recovered quickly. Hammond motioned for them to follow, and Ellie reached out a hand.
Adelaide recoiled, eyeing the hand like a poisonous snake. She liked Ellie a lot, but not enough to climb into her hand . She was wondering how she was supposed to tell Ellie ‘No’ when another voice spoke up.
“Sorry, she only rides with me,” Ian said coolly, walking around to their side of the table and holding out his hand for Adelaide.
“Oh, that’s fine. Just thought I’d offer,” Ellie said kindly.
“Maybe- maybe next time,” Adelaide offered as she climbed onto Ian’s palm. “We can, or- or you can, I mean.... well, you know.” Ian lifted her up to chest level and Ellie smiled at her. She let out a small laugh as she followed the group out of the room.
Ian looked down at Adelaide, his brown pinched. Adelaide hated looking up at him from this angle. It made her feel small and powerless, cupped in his hand like this, leaning on his chest for support and staring at the underside of his chin.
“Smooth,” he said. Adelaide was too shocked to respond. Her mouth fell open as Ian followed the group too, and she had to actively force herself to shut it. Did he know how she felt? Did she even know how she felt about Ellie? She knew for sure that she didn't like the way she lost the ability to act normal when Ellie was around. That was annoying. Either way, it wasn’t something Adelaide was in the mood to dwell on, especially when she wanted to see who the “they” Hammond referred to was.
The group reentered the lobby, and Adelaide immediately wanted to take back her question. Actually, she was fine never knowing who “they” was. Because “they” was a set of young children.
Kids were dangerous, full stop. In comparison to borrowers, children were just as strong as adults, maybe even stronger, since they didn’t always know how to control their strength. Or their voices - they had no idea how to control their voices and God, were they loud! And they were grabby. Children tended to act first, think later, and they always felt like things belonged to them. Unlike adults, they were smart enough and perceptive enough to recognize that the borrower they just saw was real and they wouldn’t chalk it up to their overactive imagination. Also, unlike adults, they weren’t smart enough to understand that the borrower wasn’t a toy that now belonged to them. Or a fairy. Adelaide hated the fairy take.
All of this added up to create a recipe for disaster, so Adelaide knew, as all borrowers knew, to avoid children at all costs. Unfortunately, it looked like she was about to be introduced to two of them.

when it comes to nick being with ro, or any woman that is, it's hard to see it because he's a misogynistic asshole. he does get better throughout the game and id imagine as time went on in the apocalypse, whether they were officially rescued or got stranded again, the shitty parts of his personality would get better
BUT
it is also his personality. we don't know why he is the dirtbag he is.. could be literally anything. shitty parents/raised badly, trauma, hanging with the wrong crowd, etc
now don't get me wrong, nick isn't solely a douchebag. he obviously has positive, redeeming qualities about himself and he truly does care about the other three survivors. as we all know, humans are not one dimensional, so it's entirely possible for him to do a 180
but when you're in your mid 30s, probably been living rough one way or another your whole life, it would be really fucking hard to break out of those negative attributes
rochelle is too good for that. she does not deserve any kind of mistreatment. i will not argue
THIS ALSO GOES FOR NELLIS TOO THOUGH! any pairing with nick would be toxic one way or another honestly
i just feel like.. it would be different with ellis because he is such a ball of sunshine. you throw anything at him, and it bounces right off. he's so oblivious and in his own world, so sweet and caring-- a genuinely good person. i feel like he would be able to balance nick out and chill out his jerk attitude a bit
ellis is not really confrontational and overall does not have a mean bone in his body. hell, in game when nick said he hated him, he responded with "well, i still like you, nick." and because of this, i feel like he would truly be the first person in nick's entire 35 years of life that showed him genuine love, respect, patience, understanding, etc, which in turn would tug on nick's shriveled heartstrings
this doesn't mean that rochelle isn't sweet and wouldn't have the power to change nick for the better. but even tho she is also a genuinely good person, she doesn't take shit from anyone, especially not nick. many times in the game she steps up to him and puts him in his place. i feel like she could love him platonically/in a family type way, but romantically i don't think she could do it. i think it would just exhaust her and quite frankly piss her the fuck off
now when it comes to zoey and ellis, it would work... for a bit. ellis would most definitely treat zoey like a queen and they would have a healthy, loving relationship. however, zoey's personality is kind of going towards the opposite spectrum of ellis'*. she's a little on the brooding side, slightly awkward, and a little quicker than most to get ticked off. of course she has a sense of humor, is sweet, and does care about others. her and i are actually very much alike, and truthfully i don't think i could date a guy like ellis. even though he's damn near perfect for a man, he has a lot of chaotic energy. when you're someone with a lower energy-type personality*, it gets tiring after a while being around high energy people
zoey would more than likely be a homebody, wanting to watch tv and movies, play video games, etc, whereas ellis is your typical country boy-- fishing, hunting, working on cars, riding horses, drinking, doing dangerous and dumb shit with his boys, etc. i feel like after a while zoey would realize she just can't keep up with him, maybe even after a while he would start to even get on her nerves. i also feel like after a while he would think she was boring.. but in reality, they just don't really have much in common when it comes to their lifestyles
*i know you could kinda consider nick being closer to a lower-energy type personality because when he's not being an ass, he is rather quiet and to himself. BUT theres no such thing as a lazy introverted conman lol
*i also feel like it's easier to tolerate the same sex as you. a man annoying another man, or a woman annoying another woman is one thing, but a man annoying a woman is a whole other story lmfao

You're Ok
Ellie Williams x Reader
TW: Nightmares, swearing, panic attacks, self-injury? fear, injuries, blood, gore, death, fire
Not proofread, tbh I wrote this pretty fast so it's shit but idc lol. I don't own the rights to any of The Last of Us or it's characters. This is simply fanfiction. Enjoy <3
You'd lived the memory of your family's death hundreds of times through flashbacks and nightmares. Ellie was there to help you.
The room was dark, and you were clueless to your surroundings aside from a quiet crackling sound. Your shoes squished against the ground, squelching every step you took. Warm, sticky liquid seeped into your worn shoes, and the room smelled of smoke, charcoal and... beef? The sharp scent burned your lungs, and you reached up to rub your nose. When your hand reached your face, you realized where the beef smell came from-your hands blistered and peeled with burns.
The room suddenly brightened, revealing a room shrouded in flames. Your foot kicked into something, and you looked down to see your mother lying in a pool of her own blood, covered in burns and cuts from shrapnel thrown by the bomb. You could hear raiders yelling, shooting and crashing around upstairs, looting your house for all it's supplies. Your throat began to burn, and you clawed at your chest.
Looking around the room through teary eyes, you found your father and your sister crippled against the wall, wailing for you to help them. Every step you took was useless, your feet were stuck to the ground, and you watched in horror as they burned. You screamed and sobbed, flailing yourself around helplessly, desperately trying to reach them.
"Y/N? Fuck." A voice called to you. You were oblivious, though, too caught up in the moment and deaf to anything but the screams from your family. "Y/N, stop, you're hurting yourself. Y/N! You have to wake up, come on, baby."
You gasped as you woke, eyes darting around the room as you scratched your throat, desperately trying to draw in a breath. You felt hands grab your wrists and gently pull your hands away.
"Look at me, love." You looked up at Ellie, concern lacing her features. You looked away again, scanning the room for any danger. She moved your hands under her knees so you couldn't move them, and delicately turned your face toward hers again. "Hey, hey, you're ok. You're alright. You're not there anymore. Nothing's the matter. I'm here. Just breathe my love."
"I-I can't-Fuck- El, I can't-"
"No, Y/N, you can. You're ok. Breathe." She moved one of your hands onto her chest and exaggeratedly inhaled. "Breathe with me, baby." She did this a couple more times as you copied her, your chest loosening and the burn in your lungs fading. "That's it, honey. That's it, my love."
You were suddenly aware of the sting on your chest and neck, looking down to see blood caked in your fingernails.
"You really did a number on yourself there, huh?" Ellie remarked. "I'll be right back, baby."
She walked away, presumably to get the first aid kit. You felt tears well in your eyes, and a sob caught in your throat. It was the same nightmare every time. You couldn't stop reliving that day.
She returned with the first aid kit, lying it open on the bed and getting alcohol wipes out. You blocked her hand from putting it against your wounds.
"I know it hurts, baby. I'm so sorry. It'll be quick, ok?" She gently dabbed the wipe on your scratches. You stifled a sob. She put the wipe down and glanced up at your eyes. "Oh, sweet baby." She cooed and put a piece of your hair behind your ear. "I'm so sorry, my love. I'm so sorry." She wrapped her arms around you, rocking you back and forth as you began to cry.
"It's just the same dream every night, El. I can't escape it."
"I know, baby. I know." She ran her fingers through your hair, loosening any knots. "You're ok. I've got you."
You rocked for a minute or two longer as you calmed down before she whispered, "I've gotta bandage you up, baby. Then we can cuddle up in bed. We don't have to go to sleep, but we should at least lie down, ok?" You nodded.
"I don't want to sleep again." You whispered.
"Ok, baby. That's ok." She reached past you to grab some bandages from the kit. "Now. Do you want the puppy band-aids, or the kitten ones?"
"I'm not five, Ellie." You giggled.
"Ok, kittens it is!" Ellie announced. You rolled your eyes and giggled again. She smiled affectionately at your laugh and gently finished patching you up before walking over to the bathroom to fill your glass of water.
"Here you go, love. Drink some water, then we can cuddle." She handed you the cup. You sipped it and put it back on the nightstand. "My sweet baby. I love you so much. I'm here for you, I've got you."
"I love you too, El." You pulled her towards you and wrapped her in your blanket, kissing her on the cheek.
"Give me some more, you blanket hog!" She chided.
"In your dreams, punk!" You giggled. She gently pushed you before snuggling closer and wrapping herself around you.
"I'll protect you from the nightmares, should you fall asleep again. No one can hurt you, as long as I'm here." She whispered. You yawned and curled up closer to her.
A/N: If you have any requests or suggestions, please lmk!!

Mirrored ego Au
Au where Nick and Keith are spies from apposing spy agencies and are rivals.
They both live with Ellis and are oblivious to each others identities. But Ellis knows both of their identities, because he is apart of the main criminal duo that they fight.
Everyone's deal under the cut:
Nick: He is one of the best that his agency has to offer. He is cunning and secretive, with a chill attitude. He is calm and collected, until he runs into Agent Clover (Keith). Clover's ability to do stupid things in the middle of high stakes operations and get away scot free makes Nick hate his guts, even if Clover gets the job done as well as Nick does. Pair that with Clover's hyperactive attitude and the fact he never stops talking and it's not a great time for Nick. Nick's free time is usually spent with his roommates, Ellis and Keith, who he gets along with well.
Ellis: He is apart of a criminal duo called "True Reflection" along with Zoey. They are a criminal group that steals stuff from rich people and gives it to the poor. But they have been labelled as terrorists due to the fact they kill said rich people a lot (and evil organization leaders but the government doesn't let the news talk about that). They claim to be a reflection of their victims cruelty, which is why they're victims are killed in morbidly fitting ways. Oil CEO's are set alight, evil organising leader that was ocean themed would be thrown to sharks, etc. Outside of the murdering, Ellis runs an auto shop with his friend Keith and finds it hilarious that Nick and Keith get along when not disguised.
Coach: He is Nick's handler, he is well respected old field agent (Agent 100) that decided that he'd keep on working. Nick is his best agent, despite his rivalry with Keith. Coach would mediate the fight himself if he was aloud near the active mission area, but his suggestions of peace fall on Nick's deaf ears.
Rochelle: She is a reporter that ALWAYS gets close to the action. She knows how to get herself out of the action but spy's tend to freak out when a civilian runs head first into danger so Nick and Keith try to "rescue" her a lot. She has a good relationship with Ellis and Zoey as civilians which is why they don't just run when Rochelle caches up to them. Because her finding them is inevitable. She is also the reason True Reflection gave themselves voice changers so she, specifically, doesn't find out. She is engaged to Francis.
Louis: He is a gadget maker for Keith's organization (he's not in the field but people call him Agent Firewall anyway), He lives for making new things, but knows better then to get attached to anything sent onto the field. Especially if Keith gets it. He also goes to the shooting range in his spare time, likes to test his weapons there too, so people avoid the range when he goes in there.
Bill: He is a retired agent (previously named spy 112) from Nick's organization who keeps ending up in the middle of cases or high action fight scenes. He doesn't mind because it "keeps him on his toes". He follows the news and is sad that the world has gone to such shit that the mass murderers have a point. He knows Zoey as a civilian and her secret identity, but knows exposing her criminal identity would only end badly.
Francis: He is an undercover police officer who is not being paid enough to deal with these "big shot" spy's shit. He just want's to infiltrate a criminal organization in peace. He is engaged to Rochelle.
Zoey: She is apart of a criminal duo called "True Reflection" along with Ellis. She was the one who thought of the idea to steal from rich people and give to the poor. But after the first few heists, came to the realization that the problem wouldn't go away until the cause did. She also came up with the calling card. A mirror laid next to the victim or vice versa, with "Look into me and see your reflection." written onto the mirror.
Keith: He is one of the best that his agency has to offer. His innate luck and integrity make him the most trusted among his peers. But Spy 151 (Nick) seems to have nether of those things. 151 is constantly angry at Keith, says that he "endangers the mission", like Keith didn't know what he was doing. So Keith likes to push his luck on purpose when 151 is around, which doesn't help their spy relationship at all. their civilian relationship is quite good, not that Keith knows that.
Keith (Agent Clover) works for The Royal Agency Of Royal Investigation
Nick (Spy 151) works for The Federal Bureau Of Counter Intelligence

Reformed Dan who protects dimensions under the watch of ClockWork. He ends up in DC and ends up staying there for a long time, enjoying the peace and quiet compared to his home.
Walking through fights while dancing to music and confusing everyone as they slowly lose their animosity to each other. This results in less injuries and the Justice League are just.....
Confused.
They have no clue who this guy is but he seems to have no bad days and makes them all relaxed and happy when in a serious fight. They can't tell if darkside would be effected. However it's possible.
The younger heroes have latched onto this guy as they like his good vibes and can talk for a few hour about their day to him if they had a rough one.

Writing prompt 09:
Nightwing is close to dead when he suddenly stands on his own, his injuries healing as his voice become much deeper than it should be as he speaks. "You fools are disrupting the timeline. And you will be eliminated for these actions."
Dick can only watch from inside his head as fire flares from his hands and the people he is fighting turn white as his eyes glow scarlet. Trying to run but pulled back in by an unknown force.
A brutal fight ensures as he slaughters them all cold blood with superhuman ability only a Kryptonian can rival with good training.
Dick collapses when all have been sucked of their life force and M'gann braves venturing close to help him. They don't know who that was, but they don't want to get in their bad side.
The guardian returns to his watch tower and stares at the screen as Dick is taken away to recover, looking to his left to see the timeline where he doesn't intervene beginning to collapse like that. He sighs and gives the mercy of a painless to those he can.
Hoping to not have to do that again as it is dangerous to expose himself to his "children".

Writing prompt 19:
The Fentons are on holiday, traveling across the US to places Danny has always wanted to visit in an effort to repair their relationship.
Due to the distance he has asked Dan and Dani/Ellie escort them so there is more ghosts than humans in the camper. He doesn't feel comfortable around his parents so they don't stop him from bringing them. Though he does appreciate they turned off everything and locked the lab when they learned of what they had done to him. The key in Jazz's possession at all times so they can't do anything else to her poor brother.
They arrive in Gotham to see the heroes from their hotel that night before moving on. Danny doesn't go with them to get supplies and ends up captured by the Talen thinking he his Tim Drake.
Dan is first back and now raging, Jazz allowing her parents their weapons to storm the gates of the court to destroy everything.
And that they do. Very quickly. Too quickly.
Bruce doesn't bother stopping them because he ain't about to stop them.

Green Lantern Jazz design? Sort of.
Her hair is up so it doesn't get in her face and she covers her whole lower face as she doesn't want to count on people being oblivious idiots for her identity. Her ring is "worn" in her hair so there is no clear source to her power. Or maybe she made it invisible? Who knows. All I know is she can punch away and not be suddenly powered down if someone takes it from her hand.
Not that she would be in trouble if that did happen.
Her suit is mostly dark green and black to not look like a green highlighter and the brighter bits can be turned down she blends into the darkness of space around her. Not going invisible but definitely camouflaging.
Also since she's ecto contaminanted she has some extra abilities no others have.
Situation: Guy isn't best pleased at the new lantern on earth being more powerful than him and she just got her ring. Hal is "quietly" shutting him up best he can. It doesn't seem to be working.

My #1 post of 2022
Writing prompt 06:
A few of the bat kids have discovered a favourite private bar that doesn't care for their names or ages, just that they pay for everything. They don't even try to hide their identities or masked name as no one cares. Given one of the regulars is a human sized plant thing that Ivy likes to kick around with, they shouldn't be surprised.
The name of that bar? Phantom's room.
Edit: Phantom's room: the halfway point between dimensions (some really good ideas in the comments!)
The rules are fairly simple to follow:
- Just pay for whatever you get or things will be personal
- Do not bother anyone
- Do not be overly loud
- Pets are permitted and must be cleaned up after, some warning is appreciated
- If injured, don't bleed all over the floor
- Do not ask for alcohol if under 18
- Do not approach alternate/different timeline versions of yourself as they can't see you
- Parking is free unless you are intoxicated trying to go home alone
- State allergies when ordering and something will be made
- No fighting
- Do not ask questions
Jason seems to like the tall ginger bar tender who enjoys his antics and they share scar stories to pass the time. Her dark haired partner sometimes breaks the magic for fun.
Damian likes the large security guy always on duty, nice guy with a rough past and it's nice to talk out stuff with someone willing to listen. Has he become a minor father role to him? Maybe. Does he help with his homework? Yes.
Tim likes to play chess with the blue skinned guy who sits in the corner reading, he's a good talker when not more confusing like the riddler.
Everyone has their favourite and usually visit after a patrol for some water and food before going home. If they come in injured a mysterious gel is slathered over it and they are healed 10 minutes later. Asking to take a sample home is answered with a firm no, as the stuff to can become addicting to humans.
Fair enough.
Though there is nothing online and the "owner"/cook is a boy who died at 14 and somehow still kicking around town. Some family who worked for the criminals of Gotham and got their son killed when he turned on a device, Jason's love interest seems to be the same situation.
Despite that, it takes them a while to tell Bruce as they don't want him ruining it for him. Alfred coming along one day after overhead a conversation between Dick and Jason. Only to find his favourite brand of whiskey already poured for him and an old friend who died long ago waiting to chat with him over a bottle.
He was... gone for some time with that one.

Wand Description/Picture: Blackthorn, Phoenix feather, 13 ¼ inches
[Blackthorn, which is a very unusual wand wood, has the reputation, in my view well-merited, of being best suited to a warrior. This does not necessarily mean that its owner practises the Dark Arts (although it is undeniable that those who do so will enjoy the blackthorn wand’s prodigious power); one finds blackthorn wands among the Aurors as well as among the denizens of Azkaban. It is a curious feature of the blackthorn bush, which sports wicked thorns, that it produces its sweetest berries after the hardest frosts, and the wands made from this wood appear to need to pass through danger or hardship with their owners to become truly bonded. Given this condition, the blackthorn wand will become as loyal and faithful a servant as one could wish.]
