My cultural flower dance outfit for Robin (Dutch ancestry)
Her outfit is based on the traditional folk costumes of Urk, a fishing village in the Flevoland Province of the Netherlands. Each Dutch region and village has it's own unique traditional dress with distinct meaning behind each element. The black base of Robin's bonnet means she's a married woman.
Interestingly enough, there is major celebration in Holland called the "Tulip Time Festival", where dancers adorn the traditional outfits from all 12 provinces and come together to dance publicly in the streets.
Her outfit is based on the traditional folk costume of Urk, with more white incorporated into her design to match the traditional SDV Flower Dance dress.
During the first weekend of May, my hometown has a three day celebration of Dutch Heritage. My siblings and I would dress-up in Dutch costumes and march in the parade with out classmates.
I never really liked wearing the long dresses they had the girls wear. I’m a pants kind of chick!

A crinoline (/ˈkrɪn. əl. ɪn/) is a stiff or structured petticoat designed to hold out a skirt, popular at various times since the mid-19th century. Originally, crinoline described a stiff fabric made of horsehair ("crin") and cotton or linen which was used to make underskirts and as a dress lining. – Wikipedia
While the crinoline skirt was fashionable, it could also be very dangerous to wear. It is said that at least a few dozen women died in the mid-1800s because the widened skirts caught on things such as carriage wheels and machinery and also posed a fire hazard. A March 16, 1858 article from the New York Times described an incident where a woman's crinoline-widened skirts caught fire and she died. The same article discussed many such deaths occurring in London in the preceding months as well. The article went on to caution women about wearing such large skirts, because of the danger that they posed.
The crinoline hoop was pattened in April, 1856 by a Paris fashion designer.

There was much attention given to the crinoline by the media of its time, not only cautioning women about the dangers of this fashion contraption, but also ridiculing it through caricatures.

LP cover of Harry Belafonte’s album “An Evening with Belafonte” (1957).
The album featured his version of the Hebrew song “Hava Nageela”.
Its popularity led to Belafonte once referring to himself as “the most popular Jew to America”.
His version of the song is believed to be the most popular, with Belafonte claiming “most Jews in America learned that song from me”. It became a staple at Jewish celebrations, especially weddings.
Belafonte was of Sephardic Jewish, Afro-Jamaican, Dutch, and Scottish descent. Although he was raised Catholic, he honored his Jewish heritage throughout his career, between singing this song at nearly every one of his concerts, and playing the Jewish angel Alexander in the film “The Angel Levine” (1970).

The Guitar Player | Johannes Vermeer | 1672 | Kenwood House
“Together with the Lacemaker (Louvre, Paris), this painting constitutes one of the best achievements by Vermeer, and certainly a towering success in his late maturity. By now, the artist had attained the mastery of light and colours, together with complete freedom of expressing himself technically by means of looser brushstrokes that are no longer bound to specifics of texture or materials. The model is not drawn inward but looks to the outside world in full communication and radiance of her pleasure simply to make music. Never was Vermeer more able to liberate himself from all constraints and convey his artistic viewpoint in a more masterly manner. The landscape on the back wall seems to be painted in the style of Hackaert.”
